Mara: Today we’re following Inanna Speaks into one story that covers a lot of ground — young love, loss, and what a piece of paper can carry across decades. Let’s start with the rise and the fall.

The roller coaster rises to its highest peak, then its just free falling

Pip: The post opens as a response to a writing prompt about first crushes — and it turns out that territory is anything but simple. The question underneath it is: what does it feel like when something that soared just drops?

Mara: The setup is personal and immediate — a young woman, a handsome man named Jonah, wartime letters, real stationery. Then comes the line that lands the hardest: “One day i received the sad news…he had found a wife in Japan.”

Pip: He did not write to say goodbye. He just stopped being hers. That is the free fall part of the title made literal — no warning, no parachute, just the bottom rushing up.

Mara: What’s striking is how the post holds two things at once. There’s genuine grief in that story — the kind that stays with you long enough that you keep the stationery. And then the post pivots: “by the goodness of grace i managed to hang on to some old stationary.”

Pip: Grief as an heirloom. That is actually a generous way to carry a heartbreak.
