It was far from a vintage performance, but a vital victory that keeps the Blood and Gold firmly on track in the title race.

From the opening minutes, Espérance showed intent but lacked composure. Their start was rushed and imprecise, and despite early attempts, JS Omrane goalkeeper Montassar Essid stood firm. On 10 minutes, Hamza Jelassi tried his luck from long range with little effect. Shortly after, Florian Danho met a fine delivery from Mohamed Amine Ben Hamida with a header, only to be denied once again by Essid (12’).

Espérance thought they had broken the deadlock in the 15th minute through Mohamed Amine Tougaï, but the goal was ruled out for a foul on the goalkeeper. The chances kept coming: Onuche Ogbelu saw his effort blocked after a scramble (20’), Danho missed the target (35’), and Chiheb Jebali forced another save from the inspired Essid (38’).

The turning point came in the 26th minute when JS Omrane’s Mohamed Amine Ben Amor was sent off for a second booking after a series of rough challenges. Reduced to ten men, the hosts retreated deep into their half, making it even harder for Espérance to break through. Despite their numerical advantage, the Blood and Gold struggled to convert dominance into goals. In fact, JS Omrane nearly shocked everyone on the half-hour mark, but Aman Allah Memmiche produced a crucial goal-line clearance to deny Ouday Belhadj - the hosts’ only real chance of the match.

The remainder of the first half turned into a siege. Abdramane Konaté came close (42’), Danho was denied yet again (43’), and Ogbelu saw back-to-back efforts blocked (45’+2). Still, the score remained goalless at halftime.

The second half followed a similar pattern. Espérance pushed relentlessly but faced a packed defense. Jack Diarra tested the backline multiple times (50’, 53’), Danho narrowly missed (54’), and Ogbelu fired over (58’). On 60 minutes, Hamza Rafia came inches away from scoring, his curling effort crashing against the post with the goalkeeper beaten.

Tensions rose further when Hamza Jelassi was sent off in the 71st minute after VAR intervention, reducing both teams to ten men and briefly reopening the contest.

But Espérance kept their composure. In the 76th minute, Aboubacar Diakité was pushed inside the box, earning a clear penalty. Captain Yassine Meriah stepped up and calmly converted (78’), finally breaking the deadlock and releasing the pressure.

The final minutes were better managed by the Blood and Gold, who controlled possession and slowed the tempo against a visibly exhausted JS Omrane side (85’). The final whistle confirmed a hard-fought but crucial win.

It may not have been pretty, but Espérance showed resilience and determination to secure three invaluable points. Job done. Now, full focus shifts to recovery and preparation for next week’s decisive derby.

Dominant from start to finish, the Blood and Gold failed to turn their superiority into goals in a match that could - and should - have been won.

The tone was set from the very first minute. Esperance earned an early corner, and Jelassi appeared to be brought down inside the box, but the referee waved play on despite strong appeals. Moments later, Danho found the net (10’), only to see his goal ruled out for an offside position by Hamidhi in the build-up.

The first half quickly turned into a one-sided affair. Esperance controlled possession, dictated the tempo, and created a string of chances. Danho, particularly lively, saw a powerful effort deflected for a corner (22’) before winning a clear penalty at the half-hour mark. However, Tougaï’s spot-kick crashed against the crossbar (33’), summing up a frustrating afternoon in front of goal.

The missed chances kept piling up. Boualia, perfectly set up by Ben Hamida, sent his shot well over from an ideal position (35’). Against the run of play, CS Sfaxien nearly stole the lead, but Memmiche produced a superb save in a one-on-one situation against Rayan Derbali (39’).

The closing stages of the first half highlighted Esperance’s inefficiency. Danho missed a clear chance (42’), Jelassi and Danho both failed to hit the target with headers (45’+2, 45’+3), before CS Sfaxien thought they had pulled off a shock lead through Emmanuel Ogbolé in stoppage time - only for VAR to rule it out for offside (45’+7).

The second half followed a similar script. Danho was again brought down in the box (49’), but once more, no penalty was awarded. Seconds later, he rounded the goalkeeper but delayed his finish too long and was dispossessed (50’), a moment that perfectly captured Esperance’s lack of decisiveness.

Despite continued pressure - with attempts from Hamidhi (56’), Boualia (59’), and another missed opportunity by Hamidhi from a Sasse assist (72’) - the Blood and Gold lacked composure in the final third. Danho remained at the heart of the action, testing the goalkeeper (82’) and seeing further efforts blocked or off target (85’, 86’).

Even in stoppage time, luck refused to turn. Tougaï failed to capitalize on a handling error by goalkeeper Dahmane (90’+4), as the match ended in a frustrating 0-0 draw.

While the overall performance - especially in the first half - was largely positive, Esperance’s lack of clinical finishing and moments of haste ultimately cost them two valuable points. At this crucial stage of the season, such missed opportunities could prove decisive.

Esperance did everything right… except score.

Following the recent stalemate against ES Zarzis, the Blood and Gold once again dropped valuable points in a scenario that is becoming all too familiar - and increasingly costly in the title race.

From the opening minutes, Patrice Beaumelle’s men imposed a high press and controlled possession, but their dominance proved largely ineffective. Despite winning several corners early on, clear-cut chances were scarce. The first real attempt came in the 6th minute when Boualia fired just wide. Up against a compact and disciplined Bizertin defense, Espérance struggled to break through in the final third.

The pattern persisted throughout the first half. Espérance controlled the tempo but lacked sharpness, while the hosts stayed organized and patient. The closest CA Bizertin came was in the 37th minute through Ayinde on a quick counterattack, but his effort missed the target. Moments later, Danho tested goalkeeper Maktouf, who pushed his shot away for a corner. At halftime, the deadlock remained.

The second half resumed in similar fashion until the long-awaited breakthrough arrived. In the 51st minute, Mohamed-Amine Ben Hamida delivered a precise cross, Chiheb Jebali controlled and set up Kouceila Boualia, who calmly finished to give Espérance the lead (0-1). A deserved reward for their sustained pressure.

However, the advantage lasted only four minutes. A defensive lapse gifted the ball to Wassim Chihi, who made no mistake in beating Ben Saïd to equalize (1-1). Another costly error, another setback.

From then on, Espérance pushed forward but remained predictable and lacked creativity. Despite several substitutions, there was no real improvement in attacking efficiency. Attempts, such as Hamdhi’s header in the 61st minute, failed to trouble the opposition. Meanwhile, CA Bizertin stayed dangerous on the counter and nearly snatched victory in stoppage time when Midani’s header struck the post (90’+2), with Ben Saïd beaten.

The drama continued moments later. In the 90’+4 minute, Haythem Dhaou’s cross found Achref Jabri, who scored what appeared to be the winning goal (1-2). But celebrations were cut short as the goal was ruled out for a controversial offside, leaving Espérance players and staff in disbelief.

At the final whistle, frustration dominated. Once again, after doing the hard part by taking the lead, Espérance allowed their opponents back into the game through avoidable mistakes. Rushed decisions, lack of composure, and inefficiency in front of goal proved decisive.

Two crucial points slip away, costing the Blood and Gold the top spot in the standings and tightening the margin for error. While their destiny remains in their own hands, the room for maneuver is shrinking fast. A strong response is now essential to keep their title ambitions alive.

EST Lineup: Ben Saïd, Dräger (Keita 85'), Ben Hamida(c), Jelassi, Tougaï, Ogbelu, Tka (Hadj-Ali 75'), Jebali, Boualia (Dhaou 85'), Hamidhi (Jabri 75') and Danho (Diakité 62').
It felt like a defeat for the Blood and Gold, who had controlled large stretches of the game but were punished by a clinical opponent.

From the outset, Patrice Beaumelle’s men set the tone with high pressing and attacking intent. Their early dominance paid off in the 7th minute: from a well-delivered free kick by Boualia, Florian Danho rose highest to power a header across goal, leaving goalkeeper Hamza Ghanmi with no chance (1-0).

Backed by a lively crowd, Esperance continued to push forward. Boualia came close again from a set piece (13’), while the team kept up the pressure in search of a second goal. In the 29th minute, Dräger delivered a cross for Danho, whose spectacular volley seemed destined for the goal of the season - only for Ghanmi to produce an outstanding save to keep his side in the game.

Espérance continued to dominate possession and create chances, with Tka narrowly missing the target after a fine team move (36’). But against the run of play, ES Zarzis were handed a lifeline: a handball by Dräger inside the box led to a penalty (39’). Khalil Kassab stepped up and calmly sent the goalkeeper the wrong way to equalize (1-1, 42’).

The Blood and Gold responded immediately. Ogbelu’s powerful low strike was denied by another sharp save from Ghanmi (44’). Just before halftime, Boualia delivered a teasing cross toward Jelassi; although he didn’t make contact, his movement deceived the goalkeeper, who failed to react in time as the ball found the net (2-1, 45’).

However, the lead was short-lived. Deep into stoppage time, a poorly cleared free kick allowed David Nyengue to pounce and fire home the equalizer (2-2, 45+5’). A cruel blow given Espérance’s clear superiority in the first half.

After the break, Espérance sought to regain control. Danho came close with a header (56’) before missing a golden opportunity from close range following a perfect Boualia cross (60’) - a pivotal moment in the match.

As the game progressed, ES Zarzis dropped deeper, closing spaces and making it increasingly difficult for Espérance to break through. Danho remained the most dangerous outlet but failed to convert further chances (66’, 70’), including an effort well saved by substitute goalkeeper Haykel Taleb. Dräger also tried his luck but sent his shot over (72’).

The tempo slowed, disrupted by repeated time-wasting from the visitors, and Espérance struggled to recreate the fluid attacking play of the first half. In the closing stages, the Blood and Gold pushed forward without success: Danho’s free kick hit the wall (87’), Hamidhi’s attempt was denied (89’), Diakité’s header was brilliantly saved by Taleb (90+4’), and Danho’s final effort was also kept out (90+6’).

At the final whistle, frustration dominated. Espérance had done much right-intensity, creativity, and control - but paid dearly for their lack of efficiency and defensive lapses.

There is no time to dwell. Recovery and focus are now essential, with a crucial trip to Bizerte this Sunday. A strong response is needed to keep the title hopes alive for the Blood and Gold.

EST Lineup: Ben Saïd, Dräger (Bouzaïène 88'), Laifi, Jelassi, Ben Hamida(c), Ogbelu, Tka (Konaté 58'), Rafia (Hadj-Ali 77'), Boualia (Diakité 77'), Diarra (Hamidhi 58') and Danho.

After losing by the same scoreline in the first leg, the Blood and Gold bow out of the CAF Champions League 2025-2026 at the semi-final stage, with efficiency proving decisive over the two legs.

The opening minutes, however, offered hope. In an impressive atmosphere where the voices of Esperance supporters echoed throughout the stadium, the Blood and Gold started on the front foot. High pressing and attacking intent saw Boualia test the waters as early as the 5th minute, though without troubling the goalkeeper. Gradually, Sundowns took control. Lunga threatened in the 11th minute, but Ben Saïd was alert, and moments later, the Esperance goalkeeper produced an outstanding save to deny Léon (20’).

After a promising first quarter-hour, the game settled into a midfield battle. Then, in the 32nd minute, everything changed. A poorly handled throw-in from Keita back to his goalkeeper resulted in a costly mistake, gifting Sundowns a penalty. Although Ben Saïd initially saved Brayan’s effort, Léon reacted quickest to convert the rebound (35’, 1-0).

It was a brutal blow. Now needing two goals to turn things around, Esperance pushed forward. Danho had a header easily gathered (41’), before coming agonizingly close moments later when his strike crashed against the crossbar. Luck was not on their side.

In the second half, Esperance tried to reignite their challenge but lacked cutting edge. Danho made the wrong decision in a promising position (48’), while long-range attempts from Keita (50’) and Boualia (51’) failed to make an impact. As time passed, Sundowns managed the game with composure, controlling the tempo and avoiding unnecessary risks.

Fatigue - both physical and mental - began to show. The Blood and Gold lost clarity and belief, while Sundowns remained in full control. Ben Saïd once again stood tall with two consecutive saves from Allende and Adams (75’), but it was not enough to change the outcome. Diakité’s late effort went wide (77’), symbolizing a frustrating afternoon.

The final minutes felt long and inevitable. At the final whistle, Sundowns confirmed their place in the final, having won both legs with authority. Over the two matches, they proved more clinical and composed.

For Esperance, the disappointment is immense. Yet, beyond the result, this campaign offers lessons - particularly in efficiency at key moments. The Blood and Gold leave the continental stage with regrets, but also with the determination to return stronger and aim once again for African glory.

Addressing the media, the French tactician played down Sundowns’ impressive home record in the CAF Champions League, insisting that numbers alone do not decide football matches.

“Statistics are just statistics, and they are meant to be changed,” he stated firmly. “Of course, it shows they are very efficient and strong in this competition, but these are only indicators.”

To support his point, Beaumelle pointed to Esperance’s recent achievement against Al Ahly in Cairo - a result that defied history. “One month ago, we went to Cairo where Esperance had never beaten Al Ahly before, and we did it by scoring three goals. That shows that everything is possible in football.”

Reflecting on the first leg, Beaumelle acknowledged both the positives and the key shortcoming. “We played a very good game last week. I believe we troubled Sundowns, but we were not efficient.” A simple yet decisive conclusion ahead of the return leg: efficiency will be the difference. “Tomorrow, the best answer will not be in words, but on the pitch. We must be clinical.”

Beyond tactics, the coach emphasized the importance of belief. “We just have to believe in ourselves, like we did in Cairo and in the past. Everything is possible.”

Beaumelle also paid tribute to the incredible support from the Blood and Gold fans, who have travelled from across the globe to back their team. Their presence has already made an impact, even during training sessions. “They started coming to support us last week at training. We had more than 7,000 people at one session - it’s unbelievable. The most important thing tomorrow is to make them proud.”

Unsurprisingly, the long trip required careful management. Upon arrival, the technical staff prioritized recovery, with rest, stretching sessions, and tailored care to help the players overcome fatigue. A light night training session followed, designed to loosen up the squad and restore sharpness ahead of this crucial encounter.

Beyond the physical aspect, the mental factor could prove decisive. And in that regard, Esperance can rely on outstanding support. Despite travel difficulties and long distances, a significant number of fans have made the trip to South Africa, coming from all over the world to stand behind their team. Their unwavering passion and energy could play a vital role in inspiring the players to overturn the narrow first-leg deficit.

For this high-stakes mission, head coach Patrice Beaumelle has selected a squad of 23 players, fully committed to the objective: Memmiche, Debchi, Ben Saïd, Jelassi, Tougaï, Koudhaï, Dräger, Laifi, Ben Hamida, Ben Ali, Keita, Ogbelu, Hadj-Ali, Konaté, Tka, Rafia, Sasse, Maâcha, Diarra, Jabri, Danho, Boualia and Diakité.

Throughout the week, both in Tunis and in Pretoria, the team has shown encouraging signs in terms of fitness, focus, and determination. Although the absence of Chiheb Jebali and Khalil Guenichi due to injury is unfortunate, the depth of the squad offers solid alternatives to face this challenge.

All eyes are now set on the iconic Loftus Versfeld Stadium, where Esperance will attempt to turn their ambitions into reality. The goal is clear: secure a victory and book a place in the continental final. The task is undoubtedly difficult against a strong and experienced Sundowns side, but the Blood and Gold have built their history on resilience and the ability to rise on big occasions.

As kickoff approaches, belief remains strong. With determination on the pitch and passionate support in the stands, Esperance steps into this decisive clash with one mission in mind: to fight, to believe, and to reach the final.

A harsh result considering the flow of the game, but one that still leaves hope ahead of the return leg.

From the opening minutes, the Blood and Gold looked determined to set the tempo, driven by a passionate home crowd. In the 15th minute, from a well-delivered corner, Sundowns goalkeeper Williams produced a commanding save to deny the hosts. What followed was a prolonged spell of cautious play, with both sides engaging in a tactical battle, reluctant to take early risks.

The first real scare came in the 29th minute, but for the wrong side, as a defensive error nearly gifted Sundowns an opportunity, eventually cleared for a corner. That warning sparked a strong reaction from Espérance. In the 33rd minute, Danho found himself one-on-one and unleashed a powerful shot that struck the post, drawing gasps from the stands. Just three minutes later, he was again in behind the defense, only to be denied at the last moment.

The pressure kept building. In the 37th minute, Tougaï rose highest from a corner, but Williams once again came to his team’s rescue with a decisive save. Dominant and more threatening, Espérance created several chances but failed to convert. At halftime, the score remained 0–0, despite the hosts’ clear edge.

After the break, Sundowns returned with greater intent. In the 47th minute, Ben Saïd had to intervene to deny Lunga’s diving header. But the decisive moment came shortly after. In the 51st minute, Morena delivered a cross with too much space, finding Brayan León unmarked just a few meters from goal, and the striker made no mistake with a close-range header.

Stunned but not defeated, the Blood and Gold pushed forward in search of an equalizer. In the 65th minute, Diakité thought he had brought the stadium to life with a superb goal, only for VAR to rule it out due to a foul by Jelassi on the goalkeeper. A heartbreaking decision that halted Espérance’s momentum.

As the clock ticked down, the attacking efforts became increasingly rushed and imprecise. Sundowns, well-organized and tactically disciplined, managed their lead effectively. In the 84th minute, Kekana was sent off for a dangerous challenge on Danho, giving Espérance a numerical advantage in the closing stages. However, the final minutes were marked by urgency and poor decision-making. Moves were poorly executed, opportunities wasted, and the Blood and Gold failed to capitalize on their superiority.

At the final whistle, frustration dominated. Sundowns had shown greater efficiency and tactical control when it mattered most. The task in Pretoria now looks daunting, but far from impossible. Espérance will need character, composure, and belief to turn things around and keep their continental dream alive.

EST Lineup: Ben Saïd, Keita, Ben Hamida(c), Jelassi, Tougaï, Ogbelu, Tka (Hadj-Ali 81'), Konaté (Jabri 90'+1), Boualia (Diarra 63'), Sasse (Diakité 63') and Danho.
It was a tight, fragmented encounter with very few clear chances, leaving the Blood and Gold with a sense of frustration as the circumstances of the match never allowed them to truly express their football.

The tone was set early on. In the 5th minute, the referee awarded a penalty to the home side for a supposed handball by Ben Hamida. A highly questionable decision, which was eventually overturned following a VAR review, sparing the game from a controversial start. In the opening minutes, Étoile appeared more aggressive in the duels, while the Blood and Gold opted to stay composed and weather the early pressure.

However, the game quickly lost its rhythm. By the 20th minute, constant stoppages for minor fouls disrupted the flow, making it nearly impossible to string together passes or build any meaningful play. In such conditions, Espérance struggled to find attacking solutions and showed some defensive vulnerability, particularly in the absence of the suspended Tougaï.

There were still a few isolated moments. In the 18th minute, Dahno attempted an acrobatic overhead kick, only for the referee to whistle a foul. Then in the 28th minute, Sasse found himself in a promising position but failed to properly direct his shot, missing a chance that could have changed the course of the match. At halftime (0-0), the assessment was clear: very few chances, disrupted play, and an opponent more focused on breaking the game than building it.

The second half followed the same pattern. In the 50th minute, Espérance suffered a setback as Jebali was forced off with a muscle injury after a challenge, replaced by Hamidhi. The stop-start nature of the match persisted, with frequent fouls preventing any real momentum, much to the detriment of the Blood and Gold.

Despite this, a few chances emerged late on. In the 75th minute, Hamidhi tested the goalkeeper with a well-struck shot, but the keeper was equal to it. Three minutes later, Keita tried his luck from distance without success. Then, in the 80th minute, Hamidhi delivered a perfect pass to Diakité, who found the net—only to see his goal ruled out for offside.

Étoile also threatened, notably in the 82nd minute when Ben Choug fired from range, forcing a solid save from Ben Saïd. In the dying moments (89th minute), Hadj-Ali nearly surprised everyone with an inswinging corner, but the home goalkeeper managed to keep it out at the last second.

At the final whistle, the score remained unchanged (0-0). A frustrating outcome for Espérance, who dropped two valuable points in the title race. With several absences, a heavily disrupted game, and refereeing decisions that significantly affected the tempo, the conditions were far from ideal.

The team must now quickly turn the page and shift focus to the upcoming continental challenge, with a crucial CAF Champions League semi-final on the horizon.

EST Lineup: Ben Saïd, Keita, Ben Ali (Guenichi 46'), Ben Hamida(c), Jelassi, Ogbelu, Tka (Konaté 69'), Hadj-Ali, Jebali (Hamidhi 55'), Sasse (Rafia 69') and Danho (Diakité 69').
Playing on a difficult, almost unplayable pitch at the El Hamma Municipal Stadium, Espérance Sportive de Tunis showed no signs of weakness, comfortably defeating Wided Sportif d'El Hamma 5–0 this afternoon in the Tunisian Cup Round of 32.

From the opening minutes, the pattern of the game was clear: the home side sat deep, pinned inside their own half, while Esperance imposed their rhythm. In the 7th minute, Moez Hadj-Ali tried his luck after a run and cross from Chiheb Jebali, but his effort went over the bar. Shortly after (14’), Alaeddine Derbali forced goalkeeper Sakr Bouhouche into a difficult save.

The breakthrough came in the 15th minute. Amen-Allah Hamidhi made a fine run down the left and delivered a perfect cross to Achref Jabri, who, like a true poacher, made no mistake in front of goal (0–1). Jabri doubled the lead in the 26th minute: his initial shot was saved and spilled by the keeper, but he reacted quickest to slot the ball home (0–2).

Dominant throughout the first half, the men of Patrice Beaumelle continued to create chances without fully capitalizing. Arkam Tabboubi missed the target (32’), while Hamza Rafia set up Jebali with a perfect pass (35’), only for the latter to opt for a long-range attempt easily collected by the keeper. Jabri nearly completed his hat-trick (36’), and Hamidhi missed with a header just before halftime (44’). At the break, the 2–0 lead was fully deserved.

Esperance stepped up another gear after halftime. Following an early attempt from Jabri (46’), the third goal came in the 51st minute: Jabri’s cross found Jebali, whose header set up Hamidhi for a superb volley into the net (0–3). Just three minutes later, Hadj-Ali delivered a free-kick from the left; Bouhouche caught the ball but fumbled it over his own line, gifting Esperance a fourth goal (0–4, 54’).

With a comfortable lead, the coaching staff rotated the squad (59’), giving valuable minutes to several players. A rare attacking move from the hosts forced Sedki Debchi into action (62’), but Esperance remained in full control. In the 64th minute, after a blocked shot from Haythem Dhaou, Hamidhi pounced on the loose ball to score his second goal and make it 5–0.

The final stages were managed professionally. Khalil Guenichi tested the keeper (78’), while the hosts failed to capitalize on a late defensive error (88’).

At the final whistle, the result was beyond doubt. Superior in every department, the Blood and Gold handled the match with professionalism despite difficult playing conditions. It must be said that Wided Sportif d'El Hamma offered little resistance and lacked the offensive edge to trouble Esperance.

The job is done: Esperance advance to the Round of 16 with authority. Well done, Blood and Gold!

What a statement. Espérance de Tunis delivered a performance for the ages, defeating Al Ahly 3-2 at the Cairo International Stadium to seal a 4-2 aggregate victory and book their place in the CAF Champions League semi-finals.

From the opening whistle, the hosts came flying out of the blocks, applying relentless pressure on the Blood and Gold backline. Despite a composed defensive start, danger arrived early. In the 8th minute, Danho produced a crucial goal-line clearance, but two minutes later, the breakthrough came. After an initial save from Ben Saïd, the ball fell kindly to Trézéguet, who made no mistake to put Al Ahly ahead (1-0).

Pinned back for large spells, Espérance struggled to impose themselves. Attempts from Diarra (12’) and Tka (18’) failed to trouble Shobeir significantly, while at the other end, Ben Saïd stood tall. The goalkeeper delivered a string of outstanding saves, denying Zizo (20’), Marouane Attia (31’), and twice frustrating Trézéguet (35’, 42’). With nearly 70% possession, Al Ahly dominated proceedings, but Espérance held firm to go into the break trailing by a single goal.

The second half initially followed the same script, with Ben Saïd once again called into action to keep his side alive. Gradually, however, the Blood and Gold began to grow into the game. Danho tested Shobeir twice (52’, 54’), signalling a shift in momentum.

That shift turned decisive in the 68th minute. A swift counter-attack led by Boualia and Sasse carved open the Al Ahly defence, and Danho powered home the equaliser (1-1). Suddenly, the tide had turned. Espérance were on the front foot.

Moments later, Sasse came close to delivering the knockout blow (75’), before the turning point arrived. In the 76th minute, Tka was brought down inside the box—penalty. Up stepped Tougaï, who kept his composure to fire Espérance into the lead (1-2) in the 79th minute.

But the drama was far from over. Al Ahly responded in the 84th minute through Osman, capitalising on a defensive lapse to level the score once more (2-2). With tension at its peak, the closing minutes saw a complete shift in mentality—Espérance calm and composed, Al Ahly increasingly frantic.

Then came the moment of destiny. Deep into stoppage time (90’+4), a perfectly delivered corner from Msakni found Jelassi, who rose highest to power a header into the net. 2-3. Pandemonium. A goal worthy of the occasion.

The final whistle confirmed it: Espérance de Tunis are through to the semi-finals.

A game of two halves, dominated early by Al Ahly, transformed by a stunning second-half resurgence from the Blood and Gold. Courage, character, and clinical finishing—this was a performance that will live long in the memory.

The Blood and Gold march on.

A clash of continental giants scheduled for tomorrow evening at the Cairo International Stadium, to be played under unusual circumstances behind closed doors.

The trip went smoothly under the best possible conditions. Driven by an extraordinary crowd and thanks to a decisive penalty converted by Mohamed-Amine Tougaï, the Blood and Gold take a narrow but deserved advantage ahead of the return leg in Cairo.

From the opening whistle, the atmosphere was electric in a Rades stadium in full voice. On the pitch, the two African giants immediately engaged in a fierce battle, with intensity and commitment on both sides setting the tone for a high-level continental clash.

The first real opportunity came in the 11th minute when Florian Danho found himself in a promising position, but goalkeeper Mustafa Shoubir produced a crucial save to deny the Esperance forward. Ten minutes later, Al Ahly responded through Mahmoud Trezeguet, whose powerful attempt forced a fine stop from Blood and Gold goalkeeper Béchir Ben Saïd.

Esperance continued to push forward and in first-half stoppage time Danho threatened again, but Shoubir once more reacted well to keep the score level (45’+2). The first half ended 0–0, with a few promising moments for the Blood and Gold, leaving the feeling that a breakthrough could come with a little more impact after the break.

At halftime, the coaching staff made two changes as Keita and Konaté replaced Dräger and Hadj-Ali in an effort to inject fresh energy into the team. The pace of the match briefly slowed early in the second half, with both sides struggling to maintain the intensity seen earlier.

In the stands, however, the atmosphere never dropped. From the very first minute, the Rades crowd had been singing relentlessly, turning the stadium into a deafening fortress behind their team.

In the 58th minute, Yan Sasse intercepted the ball and drove toward goal but opted to shoot instead of passing to better-positioned teammates. His effort ended safely in Shoubir’s hands, much to the frustration of the supporters.

Moments later, Al Ahly came dangerously close to scoring, but Ben Saïd rose to the occasion with two outstanding saves in quick succession in the 65th minute, drawing thunderous applause from the stands.

The decisive moment arrived in the 69th minute. Inside the penalty area, Mohamed Hani handled the ball, and after a VAR review the referee pointed to the penalty spot for Esperance.

Four minutes later, Mohamed-Amine Tougaï stepped up and calmly sent Shoubir the wrong way to give the Blood and Gold the lead (73’). The stadium erupted in celebration as Esperance finally broke the deadlock.

The home side nearly doubled their advantage in the 81st minute when Sasse found himself just six meters from goal, but his shot flew over the crossbar, wasting a golden opportunity.

In the closing minutes, Al Ahly attempted a few efforts from distance but lacked precision. Deep into stoppage time, Kouceila Boualia finished a promising move with a shot that sailed well over the bar (90’+2).

After eight minutes of added time, the final whistle confirmed a hard-fought and valuable 1–0 victory for Espérance Sportive de Tunis, powered by an indefatigable crowd that served as a true source of energy throughout the match.

However, the job is far from done. The scoreline could have been wider given the chances created by the Blood and Gold. The decisive second leg will take place next Saturday in Cairo, at the home of Al Ahly SC, where Esperance will need another strong performance to secure qualification.

For now, congratulations to the players for winning the first battle. The mission continues.

In a boiling Rades stadium, Espérance Sportive de Tunis secured a valuable 1–0 victory against Al Ahly SC tonight in the first leg of the quarter-finals of the CAF Champions League.

Nights when history, passion and ambition meet on the same pitch. Tonight, at the Rades stadium, Espérance Sportive de Tunis host Al Ahly SC in the first leg of the quarter-finals of the CAF Champions League. A clash that many observers across African football already describe as a final before the final, given the stature and rich history of these two continental giants.

The Blood and Gold approach this crucial encounter with determination and composure. After a particularly demanding period imposed by the domestic schedule - four matches played during the month of Ramadan under intense heat - the team has finally enjoyed a full week to recover and recharge. The technical staff focused primarily on physical recovery and workload management to ensure the players arrive at this decisive match with maximum freshness.

Beyond the physical preparation, a powerful wave of support has surrounded the club in recent days. Tickets were snapped up in no time, and the Rades stadium is expected to be packed for this major African night. Throughout the week, supporters also accompanied their team during training sessions at Parc B. The scenes of encouragement and passion created an extraordinary atmosphere that quickly circulated across social media, once again highlighting the unique bond between the club and its supporters.

The players have therefore already had a glimpse of the support awaiting them tonight. More importantly, they have fully grasped the responsibility resting on their shoulders: to defend the club’s colors and meet the immense expectations of a passionate fan base dreaming of another continental run.

Everything has been prepared to ensure that tonight becomes a true celebration at Rades. On the pitch and in the stands, all the ingredients are there for a memorable evening of African football.

In terms of squad news, the outlook is encouraging. The Blood and Gold will benefit from the return of several key players who missed recent matches. Youssef Msakni and Yan Sasse have rejoined the squad, bringing their experience and technical quality to an already strong collective unit. Two notable absences remain, however, as Youcef Belaïli and Yassine Meriah continue their recovery.

In a duel where every detail may prove decisive, Espérance Sportive de Tunis know they can rely on their character, their experience and the unwavering support of an entire fan base.

Good luck to our brave Blood and Gold. Tonight, more than ever, Rades must rise as one behind its team.

The Blood and Gold earned the win by the narrowest of margins, but their dominance—especially in the first half—fully justified the result. In the middle of a demanding schedule during the month of Ramadan, the most important thing was ultimately to secure all three points.

From the opening minutes, the Blood and Gold made their intentions clear. In the 6th minute, Boualia tried his luck with a free kick, but his shot sailed over the bar. The winger, very lively on the right flank, continued to trouble the Marsa defense. Just three minutes later, he burst into the penalty area, dribbled past a defender who eventually brought him down. The referee had no hesitation in pointing to the penalty spot. In the 10th minute, Jelassi calmly converted to give Espérance the lead (1–0).

Espérance kept pushing forward. In the 15th minute, Boualia unleashed a powerful and on-target shot that was deflected for a corner by a defender. The Blood and Gold’s dominance was evident again in the 22nd minute when Jebali delivered a cross that Boualia met with a volley, but the effort went narrowly wide.

AS Marsa struggled to break out of their half as the hosts controlled the match. In the 35th minute, Danho had another opportunity to extend the lead, but his header—despite being in a good position—missed the target. Up to that point, the visitors had not managed to create any real scoring opportunity.

AS Marsa thought they had equalized in the 40th minute when Gneba fired a powerful shot that beat the Blood and Gold defense, but the assistant referee’s flag was up for offside, saving Espérance from conceding.

The halftime whistle came with a deserved lead for Espérance. However, the 1–0 scoreline did not fully reflect the hosts’ superiority or the number of chances they had created. The advantage could—and perhaps should—have been larger.

The pace dropped significantly after the break. By the hour mark, clear chances became rare as fatigue and a lack of precision began to affect both sides. The Blood and Gold appeared content to manage their advantage while AS Marsa tried to push forward.

Around the 75th minute, the visitors reorganized and started to see more of the ball, but they never truly threatened the Espérance goal. The hosts remained in control, allowing their opponents possession as long as there was no real danger.

Late in the match, in the 87th minute, the young Hamidhi delivered a fine cross onto Diakité’s head, but the striker’s attempt went just wide of the post, denying Espérance a second goal that would have sealed the contest.

The final whistle confirmed a 1–0 victory. It may have been a narrow win, but it is an important one in the standings as the Blood and Gold continue to consolidate their place at the top of the league. What was also evident, however, was the visible fatigue among the players after a demanding run of matches during Ramadan. The squad will now benefit from a few days of recovery to recharge their batteries before the next challenges ahead.

A deserved success, patiently built in the first half and emphatically sealed after the break.

The Blood and Gold set the tone early on. In the 10th minute, Tougaï narrowly missed the target with a header from a corner kick. A minute later, Béja replied with a harmless attempt, relying mainly on counter-attacks. Espérance continued to dictate play, and in the 13th minute, a fine collective move ended with Diarra’s low-powered shot comfortably saved by the home goalkeeper.

Chances kept coming. At the 18th minute, captain Ben Hamida produced excellent work down the flank, but Danho, well positioned, failed to convert his header. Seven minutes later, Danho again caused problems on the right before delivering a perfect cross for Tka, whose diving header narrowly missed the mark. At the 29th minute, Danho was brought down by the Béja goalkeeper inside the box, but the referee waved play on, denying a clear penalty appeal.

Béja’s only real threat before the break came from a long-range effort by Omri that sailed over Ben Saïd’s crossbar (41’). Just before half-time, Espérance finally found the breakthrough they deserved. In stoppage time (45’+4), Danho did brilliantly to pull the ball back to the penalty spot, where Diarra struck powerfully. The ball hit the crossbar and crossed the line: 0–1. A fully deserved lead at the interval, despite a first half played at a moderate tempo.

Espérance returned from the dressing room with clear intent. Three minutes after the restart, Rafia forced a crucial save from the Béja goalkeeper. The domination became overwhelming, and in the 66th minute, substitute Boualia produced a moment of magic, curling a stunning direct free kick into the top corner for 0–2.

Five minutes later, another substitute made his mark. Jabri capitalised on a defensive error by Dhaoui, showed composure and precision, and fired past the helpless goalkeeper to make it 0–3 (71’).

The hosts tried to react, but Ben Saïd was alert with a key save in the 74th minute to deny Béja a consolation goal. A brief defensive scramble late on caused no real danger (85’). In stoppage time (90’+1), Diakité missed a golden opportunity to add a fourth, blasting over from close range.

With authority, discipline and total control, Espérance de Tunis secured a convincing away victory in Béja. The scoreline could have been even heavier given the number of clear chances created. Mission accomplished — well done to the Blood and Gold.

With numerous absences, a nearly unplayable pitch, and above all a 1:00 p.m. kick-off during the month of Ramadan, no one realistically expected a high-quality contest. The intense heat and the physical demands of fasting weighed heavily on players already coping with a relentless match schedule. The context was clear, and so was the difficulty.

Despite all that, the Blood and Gold made a strong start, clearly intent on deciding the match early in order to avoid prolonged physical strain. As early as the 6th minute, Diarra was presented with a huge chance but missed the target, finding the side netting. Eight minutes later, Hamza Rafia delivered a perfect pass to Diarra, who somehow failed to convert from point-blank range—an opportunity that should have changed the scoreline.

After that promising opening quarter-hour, ES Métlaoui gradually grew into the game. In the 30th minute, Senegalese midfielder Bodian tried his luck, but his effort was off target. Six minutes later, Hamza Mansri also missed the frame, marking Metlaoui’s second attempt. What was more concerning for Esperance was the drop in attacking intensity, far removed from their energetic start.

Half-time arrived with the score still at 0–0. The heat was oppressive, the players visibly dehydrated—a cruel test of endurance, bordering more on survival than football.

After the break, Esperance came back with renewed determination, pushing hard to score as quickly as possible. In the 51st minute, Keita missed a clear chance as the goal began to “heat up.” The breakthrough finally came three minutes later: Keita delivered a cross toward Tka at the near post, the ball slipped past both Tka and the goalkeeper, and Jabri, alert at the far post, tapped it in to open the scoring. 0–1, a deserved reward for Esperance’s efforts.

ES Métlaoui, however, refused to give up. From the 70th minute onward, the hosts pushed forward in search of an equaliser. In the 74th minute, right-back Raed Fedaâ broke into the box, Ibrahima Keita challenged him, and the referee immediately pointed to the penalty spot. Two minutes later, Chérif Bodian calmly converted, restoring parity at 1–1.

In the closing stages, Esperance threw everything forward in an attempt to regain the lead. The intent was there, but fatigue, haste, and a lack of sharpness prevented a decisive blow. In stoppage time, Aboubacar Diakité came agonisingly close to snatching victory, but his two headed efforts lacked the necessary accuracy. The score remained unchanged.

With this draw, Esperance de Tunis remain top of the league with 47 points, holding a two-point lead over Club Africain. No new injuries were reported, which is perhaps the most important takeaway given the extreme conditions. Recovery will now be crucial, as another demanding fixture awaits in just three days’ time in Béja—once again under conditions that can only be described as inhumane.

EST Lineup: Memmiche, Keita, Ben Hamida(c), Jelassi, Guenichi, Ogbelu, Tka, Rafia (Hadj-Ali 72'), Konaté, Diarra (Diakité 63') and Jabri (Jebali 63').
It offered a clear insight into both the man and the coach entrusted with leading the Blood and Gold through a decisive phase of the season. Between gratitude, lucidity and declared ambition, the French technician laid the foundations of his project.

From the outset, Beaumelle chose to frame his arrival within a spirit of respect and continuity. Before speaking about his new challenge, he paid tribute to the Angolan Football Federation and its president, Alves Simões, for facilitating his release, while wishing the Palancas Negras every success in the future. A gesture that reflects his sense of loyalty and professionalism.

The new coach expressed his sincere thanks to club president Hamdi Meddeb, vice-president Riadh Bennour, and the entire board, as well as sporting director Yazid Mansouri, whom he has known for over a decade. This long-standing relationship of trust is a key element in the construction of a coherent sporting project.

Beaumelle also highlighted the quality of the work carried out by Christian Bracconi during his interim spell. Three wins from three matches, renewed confidence and improved performances: the French coach praised the existing staff and confirmed that Bracconi will remain fully involved, particularly in strengthening the bridge between the first team and the academy.

Fully aware of the club’s DNA, Patrice Beaumelle underlined that Espérance must always aim high, on all fronts: league, cup and CAF Champions League. With a postponed match to be played shortly, the schedule is demanding but stimulating. “All indicators are green,” he suggested, stressing that the team is already on the right track.

The upcoming Champions League quarter-final against Al Ahly is naturally on everyone’s mind. Beaumelle described the clash as a “final before the final”, between two giants of African football. Still, he insisted on avoiding premature projections: every upcoming match must serve as preparation, because confidence is built through successive victories.

With a pool of around 35 to 36 players potentially available for first-team duty, Beaumelle’s priority is to get everyone back on track, particularly those returning from injury. He mentioned Youssef Belaïli, whom he knows well, and whose recovery must be handled carefully. The same applies to key players such as Yassine Meriah and Mohamed-Amine Tougaï, whose absences have weighed heavily on the team.

The message is clear: everyone must feel involved, both physically and mentally, to ensure healthy competition and maximum options for the coaching staff.

Beaumelle was quick to acknowledge Espérance’s current strengths, particularly their defensive solidity and collective discipline. Offensively, however, he believes there is room for improvement, especially in combination play and finishing in the final third.

His philosophy is based on dynamic football: pressing, verticality, movement and quick combinations. Keeping possession for its own sake is not his priority; what matters is progressing, creating danger and finishing actions — a demand that aligns perfectly with the expectations of the Blood and Gold supporters.

Describing himself as a “work addict”, Patrice Beaumelle emphasised his total commitment to the club, far beyond match days. Building success, in his view, requires daily presence, dialogue and attention to the invisible aspects of performance.

With nearly twenty years of experience in African football, both with clubs and national teams, he underlined his deep understanding of the continent’s passion, fervour and specific challenges. If humility is essential at a club like Espérance, determination is just as non-negotiable: winning, building and playing attractive football are inseparable objectives.

Asked about players who have been sidelined in recent months, Beaumelle advocated dialogue and transparency, while firmly reiterating a core principle: nothing stands above the institution. Individual situations will be discussed internally, always with the club’s interests and group stability in mind.

In closing, the new coach summed up his vision with a strong message: “The star is the team.” A statement that sets the tone for a tenure built on collective spirit, hard work and ambition — fully in line with the history and expectations of Espérance Sportive de Tunis.

A deserved success built on a dominant first half, allowing the Blood and Gold to reclaim first place in the standings.

From the opening minutes, Esperance showed confidence and authority. Comfortable on the ball, they quickly imposed their rhythm and took control of proceedings. The first real chance of the match, however, came against the run of play: on a quick counter-attack, Ndiaye found himself in a good position but sent his effort over Memmiche’s crossbar (8’).

The response from the Blood and Gold was immediate and convincing. After a series of neat combinations in Stade Tunisien’s half, the breakthrough arrived in the 21st minute. Yan Sasse slipped a clever pass to Dräger, whose low cut-back found Tka perfectly positioned. The midfielder struck first time, leaving the goalkeeper helpless and sending the Radès crowd into celebration.

Esperance continued to push forward. Just a minute later, Diarra rattled the crossbar with a fine effort (22’), before firing over from another attacking move (26’). The dominance was total. On 35 minutes, Yan Sasse produced a moment of individual brilliance, winning the ball, controlling it superbly and beating the goalkeeper, only to see his shot crash against the post. The scoreline remained surprisingly narrow. Shortly before half-time, Sasse was forced off with a thigh injury and replaced by Boualia (41’). The interval came with Esperance leading 1–0, a score that hardly reflected their superiority.

The second half saw a noticeable drop in tempo, largely due to fatigue linked to the fasting period. Despite this, Esperance still created the clearer chances. On 69 minutes, a swift counter-attack ended with Danho unleashing a powerful strike, brilliantly tipped around the post by goalkeeper Farhati.

Clear opportunities became rare as the match wore on. Danho sent a free-kick well over the bar late in the game (85’), before Jabri had the final chance of the evening deep into stoppage time. His powerful counter-attacking effort was once again denied by the Stade Tunisien keeper, who pushed the ball out for a corner (90’+3).

Moments later, the final whistle confirmed a valuable and deserved victory. Though the closing stages were physically demanding, Esperance’s first-half control proved decisive. With this derby win, the Blood and Gold return to the top of the table — a success earned through discipline, quality and collective commitment. Now, recovery is the priority before the next challenges ahead.

Despite a noticeable lack of rhythm and intensity at times, Esperance dominated the game from start to finish, making the difference early and turning the match into a one-sided affair. Everything was settled in the first half, which ended with a clear 3–0 advantage.

After a few early warnings, Esperance opened the scoring in the 15th minute. From a well-taken free kick by Moez Hadj-Ali, Danho attacked the near post and finished brilliantly with the outside of his right foot, beating AS Soliman goalkeeper Moez Ben Chérifia (0–1).

The dominance continued and was rewarded again on the half-hour mark. With smooth ball circulation in the attacking phase, Danho laid the ball off at the edge of the box for Boualia, whose powerful and accurate strike left Ben Chérifia helpless (0–2). Just before the break, at the 45th minute, Danho was brought down inside the area, earning a penalty. Ben Hamida calmly converted to make it 3–0 and effectively put the game to bed.

The second half was largely a formality, with Esperance managing their comfortable lead without major difficulty. The only real scare came in the 59th minute, when an avoidable defensive foul by Laifi conceded a penalty to AS Soliman. Fortunately for Esperance, Jasser Khemiri struck the post, keeping the clean sheet intact.

Beyond the scoreline, the match was a clear success for the technical staff, who opted for a well-managed rotation policy. Several regular starters were either left in Tunis or began the match on the bench, yet the collective performance never lost its balance. Everything unfolded according to plan, both tactically and physically.

With these three valuable points, Esperance continue their climb up the league table and can now turn their focus to Saturday’s clash against Stade Tunisien at Radès, buoyed by confidence, freshness, and strong momentum.

With a strong and controlled second-half performance, the Blood and Gold defeated Petro de Luanda 2–0 this evening at the Rades stadium, on matchday six of the CAF Champions League group stage. A victory that sends Espérance deservedly through to the quarter-finals.

Backed by a passionate home crowd, the Blood and Gold made a flying start. Inside the opening minute, Dräger’s shot was deflected for a corner by the arm of a defender, but the referee waved away strong penalty appeals. Espérance showed intent and commitment, yet much of the play remained concentrated in midfield.

Petro de Luanda were far from passive and proved dangerous on the counter (13’). Espérance created chances of their own, notably through Hadj-Ali’s effort (14’) and a major opportunity on 20 minutes, when Sasse played Diakité through on goal. Hesitation at the crucial moment, however, allowed the chance to slip away.

The Angolan side then came close to scoring at the other end, as the crossbar rescued Espérance in the 26th minute on the most dangerous action of the half. Despite further attempts by Diakité (33’, 36’), the score remained goalless at the break, setting the stage for a decisive second half.

Espérance wasted no time after the restart. Just seconds into the second half, substitute Jebali delivered a perfect cross for Diakité, who powered home a well-placed header to give the Blood and Gold the lead (46’, 1–0). Rades erupted.

The hosts had chances to double their advantage soon after, but Sasse hesitated once again when well positioned (52’). Petro responded by pressing higher up the pitch (56’), yet Espérance remained compact at the back and looked to strike quickly on the break.

A second goal seemed imminent when Sasse found the net, only for it to be ruled out for offside (60’). Diakité then fired off target (62’), before the decisive blow finally arrived. In the 81st minute, Hadj-Ali released Diarra down the left flank. Showing pace and composure, the forward beat the defence and calmly finished past the goalkeeper to make it 2–0.

Late on, Tka nearly added a third with a powerful effort that was pushed away (88’), but the scoreline remained unchanged.

The final whistle confirmed a well-earned 2–0 victory, built on discipline, efficiency and a strong collective response, particularly after the break. Under pressure and in a decisive fixture, Espérance de Tunis rose to the occasion and booked their place in the quarter-finals of the CAF Champions League.

Congratulations to the brave Blood and Gold on a true champions’ performance.

On matchday six and final round of the CAF Champions League group stage, the Blood and Gold welcome Petro de Luanda in a clash that has all the makings of a knockout final.

It has been a difficult week for the Blood and Gold players following the dismissal of head coach Maher Kanzari and the temporary appointment of Christian Bracconi. Tasked with preparing this crucial encounter in a very short time, the French coach found a squad clearly affected on a psychological level by the recent upheaval. One of his main priorities was therefore to restore confidence and focus, in order to have his players fully ready for this decisive test.

Team selection will not be without its challenges. Espérance will be without several key players, as Keita, Meriah, Msakni and Ogbelu are all sidelined for this encounter. Absences that weigh heavily given the importance of the match. On a more positive note, the return of Tougaï, back in action after a long spell on the sidelines, provides a timely boost, particularly at the back.

The stakes could not be clearer. This is a direct head-to-head between Espérance and Petro de Luanda, with qualification for the quarter-finals on the line. In simple terms, it is a winner-takes-all scenario: whoever prevails tonight will book their place in the last eight.

Petro de Luanda will arrive in Radès with no fear and no complexes. The Angolan side knows it has a real opportunity and has come to seize it. Espérance, for their part, will rely on their vast experience at the highest African level, as well as the backing of their passionate home crowd, to give everything and emerge successfully from this battle.

All signs point to a highly charged and thrilling contest, both on the pitch and in the stands. On nights like these, Espérance de Tunis have often risen to the occasion.

Espérance Sportive de Tunis have decided to part ways with head coach Maher Kanzari, concluding a period that had become increasingly difficult to manage, both on a sporting and a human level.

Under heavy criticism for some time, Maher Kanzari was no longer working in optimal conditions. Social media, sections of the press, and at times even the stands at the stadium had created a suffocating climate around the technical staff. This constant pressure, intensifying week after week, eventually left the coach isolated, without any public backing, including from the club’s leadership.

According to several sources, Maher Kanzari had even submitted his resignation on two occasions. On both occasions, the club’s management chose to reject it, driven by confidence in his work but also by considerations of timing. Espérance were engaged in a demanding cycle of CAF Champions League matches, all crucial and played on a weekly basis, and any abrupt change was deemed risky.

However, today’s 1–0 defeat away to Stade Malien in Bamako, in the CAF Champions League, accelerated the process. It proved to be the turning point. Despite the importance of the upcoming continental fixture, scheduled in less than a week, the club’s leadership judged that the situation was no longer under control and that Maher Kanzari could no longer carry out his duties serenely under an increasingly unbearable campaign of pressure.

Club president Hamdi Meddeb therefore took the decision to relieve Maher Kanzari of his duties. The appointment of his successor will be announced in due course. In the meantime, and barring any surprises, the interim role is expected to be entrusted to Christophe Chaintreuil, the club’s youth technical director, who will be tasked with steering the team through this delicate transitional period.

We would like to wish Maher Kanzari all the best for the future. He leaves behind an overall very positive record after eleven months in charge, marked by professionalism, commitment, and dedicated service to the Blood and Gold.

A frustrating setback and the Blood and Gold’s first continental loss of the season, which postpones qualification until the final matchday.

From the opening minutes (5’), the game quickly settled into an intense rhythm, marked by numerous physical duels and strong commitment from both sides. Play was largely concentrated in midfield, with few clear-cut chances in the early stages (13’).

Espérance came close to breaking the deadlock in the 18th minute with a superb attacking move. Keita delivered an excellent cross towards Konaté, who was completely unmarked and in a perfect position to score. His glancing header, however, lacked accuracy and sailed just over the crossbar. A huge opportunity missed by the Blood and Gold.

Stade Malien responded mainly through set pieces. In the 26th minute, a corner led to a close-range header that forced Ben Saïd into a fine reflex save, before a follow-up effort flew over the bar. Four minutes later (30’), Mandjan tested the Espérance goalkeeper with a well-struck free kick, but Ben Saïd was well positioned and collected the ball comfortably.

The Malian side increased the pressure towards the end of the first half. In the 42nd minute, they found space too easily through the Espérance defense, but the powerful shot went over Ben Saïd’s goal. Stade Malien continued to press until the break (45’), yet the score remained goalless at halftime (0–0).

At the restart, Sasse and Diarra were introduced (46’) to inject fresh energy into the team. Espérance showed intent, but a promising free kick was wasted through excessive haste in the 49th minute.

The decisive moment came in the 54th minute. A defensive mistake proved costly as Meriah lost possession, allowing Stade Malien to launch a swift counterattack. A well-worked combination exposed the Blood and Gold defense: Ben Saïd saved the first attempt, but Traoré reacted quickest and Daouda Coulibaly finished to give the hosts the lead (1–0).

Espérance struggled to respond and found themselves under pressure as the match progressed. In the final quarter-hour (81’), Stade Malien clearly dominated. Danho tried to spark a reaction in the 83rd minute with an individual effort, but with no support, the move came to nothing. Five minutes from time (88’), Danho earned a well-placed free kick, yet Boualia’s powerful strike went over the bar.

With no significant reaction until the final whistle, Espérance left Bamako empty-handed. A disappointment, no doubt, but all is not lost. Stade Malien have now secured top spot in the group, while the Blood and Gold will play for qualification next Saturday in Radès against Petro Atlético, in a decisive match for the second qualifying place.

Courage to the Blood and Gold — the final chapter is still to be written.

Espérance de Tunis suffered a narrow 1–0 defeat this afternoon against Stade Malien de Bamako at the 26-March stadium, in Matchday 5 of the CAF Champions League group stage.
