Follow these simple steps to be rust-free and prepared for winter:

Prep

Remove any excess dirt and oil from the item. Pour enough CRC EVAPO-RUST® into a container to cover it completely. The type of container doesn’t matter since CRC EVAPO-RUST® will not harm unrusted steel, is safe on other metals, and doesn’t affect plastic.

Soak

Let the item soak for 30 minutes for light rust or up to overnight for extremely heavy rust.

Rinse 

Rinse the item with water. If rust remains, re-immerse it until all the rust is gone. Un-rusted metal will not be affected. This step is important to get the best results.

Protect

Skip all the hard work and follow these easy steps for rust-free tools. 

Prep

Get Your Cookware Ready for Summer

Cast iron’s durability makes it an ideal choice for cooking over coals or open flame, and its ability to retain heat allows it to cook food even if set near coals. Get your cookware in peak condition by removing rust and seasoning it by following these simple steps.

Steps To Remove Rust and Season Cast Iron Cookware:

• Step 1: In a container, pour enough EVAPO-RUST® Rust Remover to cover the cookware completely.
• Step 2: For light rust, let it soak for thirty minutes. For heavy rust, soak overnight.
• Step 3: When finished, rinse with water. If deep rust remains in pits, re-immerse the item until all the rust is gone. Un-rusted metal will not be affected.
• Step 4: Once rust is removed, rinse with water and dry.
• Step 5: Once you’ve removed the rust, re-season the pan. This step is super important, so don’t be tempted to skip it. Place the pan in the oven at 200°F to eliminate any moisture and open the pores of the metal to receive the oil. Coat the pan lightly with oil (organic flaxseed oil is recommended), rub off the oil with a paper towel or cloth, and place the pan upside down in the oven. Heat the oven to the highest temperature (450-500°F) and let the pan heat with the oven. After an hour at the hottest temperature, let the pan cool in the oven for two hours. Repeat several times for the best results.

Skillet Frittata

Ingredients

• 8 eggs
• ½ cup milk
• ½ teaspoon salt
• ¼ teaspoon pepper
• 2 tablespoons olive oil, divided
• 1 shallot, sliced thin
• 1 pint cherry tomatoes, halved
• ¼ cup basil, chopped
• ½ cup shredded gruyere cheese

Feel free to use whatever combination of veggies, herbs, and cheese your campers prefer.

Instructions

• Prepare a campfire or charcoal for cooking.
• In a medium bowl, beat together the eggs, milk, salt, and pepper until thoroughly blended. Set aside.
• Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a 10” skillet over medium heat. Add the shallot and sauté until soft and beginning to brown, 7-10 minutes.
• Reduce the heat to medium-low by raising your campfire grate or moving the skillet to the cooler side of the grill. Add the tomatoes to the skillet, followed by the egg mixture, basil, and cheese. Cover with a lid. Scatter a few embers across the lid.
• Cook until the frittata has puffed up and the eggs are just set, about 15 minutes (check at 10 minutes to gauge progress, using heat-proof gloves or a lid lifter to remove the lid).

Serve with additional cheese and basil if desired and enjoy!

How to Prep your Bike Chain

Before you can get rid of rust, you need clean the chain.

During regular use, your chain will accumulate grease and dirt. The rust forms beneath this layer, so you must remove this extra layer to remove it effectively. For that, you need a degreaser. 

How to Degrease a Bike Chain

Step 1: Safety First

Put on your PPE (personal protective equipment) such as gloves and protective eyewear when working on a project.

Step 2: Detach Chain

Step 3: Degreaser Soak

Soak or spray the chain in the degreaser in a clean container. The soaking duration will depend on how much dirt and grease is on your bike chain. For severe cases, you should soak for at least 24 hours. You can use a rag or soft brush to free the grease from the chain.

Step 3: Rinse

Rinse thoroughly and wipe dry.
