ORLANDO, Florida (Thursday, Oct. 24, 2024) — Three Brazilian soccer clubs—São Paulo FC, Atlético Mineiro and Cruzeiro—will visit Florida in January as part of the FC Series. The event, which celebrates its 10-year anniversary in 2025, will hearken back to its Florida Cup roots with four exhibition matches in the state. The lineup includes São Paulo FC’s return to Florida and the first edition of Superclássico Mineiro between Atlético and Cruzeiro to be played in the US, as well as a showdown between Atlético and Orlando City SC, fresh off its 2024 MLS playoff run.

Over the past decade, the FC Series has stood out in the United States as one of the leading platforms for activation and support for major global football clubs. Most recently, the FC Series hosted Manchester City’s four-city US tour this past summer. To date, Brazil has featured the most participating clubs with eight, followed by Germany and the United Kingdom (five each).

“To celebrate a decade of FC Series competition by hosting three of Brazil’s biggest clubs holds special meaning for us, as Brazil is where this incredible journey began,” said FC Series CEO Ricardo Villar. “And as we’ve seen over the past 10 years, the presence of these traditional powers will drive fans from different markets and provide an electric atmosphere in stadiums.”

Longtime FC Series sponsor Universal Orlando Resort will support the event as part of its longstanding partnership.

The upcoming edition will introduce two new partners. Inter&Co will kick off Inter&Co Soccer Week, which will feature the three FC Series matches at Inter&Co Stadium in Orlando.

Azul Airlines is the newest partner in the tourism segment, serving as the official airline of the event. The company will provide more details about its support for the tournament in the coming days.

A full list of January 2025 FC Series matches in Florida, including Orlando and Fort Lauderdale, is available below. Additional information, including broadcast details and remaining participants, will be announced in due course.
The January 2025 lineup will kick off with a Brazilian football classic, as São Paulo and Cruzeiro start their respective preseasons with a friendly on Wednesday, Jan. 15. That match at Inter&Co Stadium will be Cruzeiro’s first contest in the US in 11 years and marks the club’s FC Series debut.

São Paulo, meanwhile, will be participating in the FC Series for the third team after winning the Florida Cup tournament in 2017 and returning in 2019, when it faced Ajax from the Netherlands and Eintracht Frankfurt from Germany. The club will also compete in a second FC Series match on Jan. 19 at Chase Stadium, home of Inter Miami, against an opponent to be announced.

One day earlier, on Saturday, Jan. 18, Atlético and Cruzeiro will play the first “Superclássico Mineiro” ever hosted in the US. The match will mark Atlético’s fourth year participating in the FC Series after winning the 2016 Florida Cup and returning in 2017 and 2018. Atlético will then conclude its 2025 preseason slate with a match at Orlando City on Jan. 25. The winner of this matchup will take home the inaugural Inter&Co Trophy, which will be contested annually during the FC Series at Inter&Co Stadium, the home of Orlando City.

Presale information for all matches is available now at FCSeries.com. Tickets will go on sale to the public starting Thursday, Oct. 31.

July 23 | Manchester City vs. Celtic | Kenan Stadium (Chapel Hill)

Manchester City’s FC Series tour of the United States began with a 4-3 defeat to Celtic in North Carolina. A first half brace from Nicolas Kuhn and a smart Kyogo Furuhashi finish put City behind at the break despite Man City star Oscar Bobb also finding the net.

A defiant second-half display, spearheaded by the irrepressible Bobb, pulled City level, with Maximo Perrone and Erling Haaland both on target, but the Scottish champions found a winner through substitute Luis Palma.

JULY 27 | Manchester City vs. AC Milan | Yankee Stadium (New York)

Manchester City were edged out by AC Milan in an entertaining 3-2 pre-season friendly played in front of a sellout crowd of 46,122 at New York’s Yankee Stadium.

Erling Haaland opened the scoring with a clinical low finish having been set up by Oscar Bobb inside 20 minutes, but the Rossoneri responded through a Lorenzo Colombo brace before the break.

At halftime, both sides also changed into brand new 2024/25 kits at half-time as part of the City and Milan for Change initiative.

Following the break, James McAtee headed home on 55 minutes to draw City level, but substitute Marco Nasti’s first-time effort sealed the win for Milan.

July 30 | Manchester City vs. Barcelona | Camping World Stadium (Orlando)

Manchester City were beaten 4-1 on penalties after playing out an entertaining 2-2 draw with Barcelona in front of a sellout Orlando crowd.

Kalvin Phillips and Jacob Wright were the unlucky City players to see their penalties saved in front of 63,237 supporters at the Camping World Stadium.

Barcelona took the lead through Pau Victor’s low finish, with Nico O’Reilly’s equalizer then cancelled out by Pablo Torre on the stroke of half-time.

City deservedly drew level though when Jack Grealish found the top corner after great work from Mateo Kovacic before the hour mark. Pep Guardiola’s men pressed for an advantage until the end, but would ultimately fall to the lottery of a shoot-out in its third pre-season friendly.

Aug. 3 | Manchester City vs. Chelsea | Ohio Stadium (Columbus)

Manchester City’s pre-season tour of the United States ended with an entertaining 4-2 win over Chelsea in front of 71,280 fans in Columbus, Ohio.

An Erling Haaland hat-trick, two of which came in the opening five minutes, and Oscar Bobb strike earned Pep Guardiola’s men a deserved victory in our final friendly ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

Former City man Raheem Sterling pulled one back for Chelsea before the hour and Noni Madueke added a second late on, but it did little to dampen what was a convincing display from Pep Guardiola’s men.

Partner clubs and a match lineup for the Summer 2024 FC Series are expected to be announced this March, marking the fourth consecutive year the event will host top European teams in Central Florida and throughout the United States during the preseason window.

Past FC Series summer events have featured matches in Las Vegas, Charlotte, Chapel Hill and Orlando — including sellouts at Camping World Stadium featuring Premier League rivals Arsenal and Chelsea (2022) and a friendly between global icons Real Madrid and Juventus (2023).

Last summer’s FC Series calendar also featured the U.S. debut of popular Welsh club Wrexham. The Ryan Reynolds- and Rob McElhenney-owned side, subject of the popular FX docuseries Welcome to Wrexham, faced Chelsea in the first-ever international soccer match at the University of North Carolina’s Kenan Stadium, with the Blues and Red Dragons selling out the historic 50,000-seat American football venue in four days.

This year’s summer tour announcement builds on the success of last month’s Winter 2024 FC Series, which marked the former Florida Cup’s return to the January window and South American preseason competition. From 2016-20, four top Brazilian clubs (Atlético Mineiro, São Paulo FC, Flamengo and Palmeiras) and one Colombian side (Atlético Nacional) raised the Florida Cup trophy.

Germany’s FC Köln and Bayer Leverkusen finished first place and runner-up in the inaugural 2015 event, respectively, with Eintracht Frankfurt and top Dutch clubs Ajax and PSV Eindhoven among the event’s other early European participants. Additional top Brazilian clubs featured in previous Florida Cup events include Corinthians, Fluminense, Internacional and Vasco da Gama.

Flamengo, the event’s 2019 champion, completed its 2024 preseason training camp at Osceola Heritage Park near Orlando and defeated Philadelphia Union 2-0 on Jan. 21 at Al Lang Stadium in St. Petersburg in its first stateside exhibition of the tour. The club then hosted an open training Jan. 25 before a 1-1 draw against Orlando City at Inter&Co Stadium on Jan. 27.

Flamengo supporters brought the passion of Rio de Janeiro to the Sunshine State at both Winter 2024 FC Series matches; each game featured a U.S. stadium packed with Brazilian fans, and the latter set a club friendly record at Inter&Co Stadium, with a crowd of 22,678 on hand for the match.

Please stay tuned for additional details regarding this summer’s itinerary. To ensure you receive the latest information on the entire 2024 FC Series schedule, please click here.
