We have our second to last updated NFL Mock Draft for 2013 posted this morning. The first round sees 17 changes from our last update, with 74 changes over the three rounds. It’s amazing how things tumble when some early picks change. There were only 10 picks in the 2nd and 3rd round combined that did not change in this updated NFL mock draft. Here are some of the changes in this update…

1.7 Arizona Cardinals: Lane Johnson, OT, Oklahoma

The Cards missed on an OT in the last update. If they landed Johnson without having to move up in front of Detroit, it would be a bonus. In a non-mock draft world we could see the Dolphins leap frogging the Cards.

*Previous mocks:Ezekiel Ansah, Lane Johnson, Barkevious Mingo, Eric Fisher, Matt Barkley

1.10 Tennessee Titans: Ezekiel Ansah, DE, BYU

It was very tempting to go with Jonathan Cooper here as the Titans can still use a top guard despite addressing the position in Free Agency. We stray though from the need to the impact of adding the player that is one of the top pass rush prospects in the draft.

*Previous Mocks: Star Lotulelei, Chance Warmack, Dee Milliner

2.7 Jets: E.J. Manual, QB, Florida St.

3.23 Redskins: Tyrann Mathieu, CB, LSU

Updated Mock Draft for AFC North-Three Rounds

Cleveland Browns:
1.6 Dee Milliner, CB, Alabama
3.6 Tyler Wilson, QB, Arkansas

The Browns are moving back to a 3-4 defense and could use help with a pass rusher. They have addressed the LB position with signing Paul Kruger and Quinton Groves, neither being the sure thing answer. we could see them grab a Dion Jordan here, but they have a glaring need at corner looking at them as well. Milliner is the top player on the board and he can team up with Joe Haden to make a dangerous duo at cornerback. With all of the changes in Cleveland, the QB position is not set in stone. It may be too soon for a first rounder this year, but Wilson in the third round could happen without too many questions if there is not a pass rusher available worthy of the pick.

Pittsburgh Steelers:
1.17 Jarvis Jones, OLB, Georgia
2.16 DeAndre Hopkins, WR, Clemson
3.17 Gavin Escobar, TE, San Diego St.

The Steelers grab the best player on the board, who also fits a great need at passrusher. The aging defense gets a bump here. The last two picks we saw the Steelers look at WR, which could still be an option. In this mock draft update we have them grabbing a value in Hopkins in the mid second round. Escobar gives Big Ben another target and relief at TE as Heath Miller ripped himself up at the end of the season.

Cincinnati Bengals:
1.21 Manti Te’o, MLB, Notre Dame
2.5 (From Raiders): Kyle Long, OL, Oregon
3.22 D.J. Swearinger, S,South Carolina

The Bengals could be the team that takes a first round Running Back here. We have had them go Tackle and Safety when players warranted the pick, but they are gone now (Fluker, Vaccaro). Next up we have the need at Linebacker. Our last update had them going with Ogletree, but with him gone Te’o is next up. Take away the offseason stories, this would not have been considered a reach for Te’o. The Bengals are good at giving chances. In the second and third round the Bengals come back at Right Tackle and Safety.

Baltimore Ravens:
1.32 Justin Pugh, OT, Syracuse
2.30 Justin Hunter, WR, Tennessee
3.32 Jon Bostic, ILB, Florida

The Ravens made due in their Super Bowl run with Bryant McKinnie at LT, now they may not even have him. Pugh may be their last chance in this draft to protect Flacco. There are a couple of empty spots left open by Boldin and Lewis. Chances of Hunter being available at the end of the second are slim, but that is how this mock draft played out. Signing Rolando McClain may alleviate some the problem at LB, but adding Bostic at the end of the third would be a great pick up and McClain does not come without questions.

Updated Mock Draft for NFC North-Three Rounds

Detroit Lions:

1.5 Lane Johnson, OT, Oklahoma
2.4 Damontre Moore, DE, Texas A&M
3.3 Quinton Patton, WR, Lousiana Tech

The Lions would LOVE for Joeckel or Fisher to fall here. This time around it doesn’t happen. The Lions entered the draft process in need of help at defensive end. After the Jeff Backus retirement, the Lions have to address left tackle. Lane Johnson’s stock has been rising and the Lions are more likely to find a DE at the top of the second round than a player to protect Matthew Stafford’s blind side. In the second they take a swing on the falling stock of one of the losers of the draft process in Damontre Moore. If he pans out he can be a steal considering he was one of the top prospects until the non-game factors were taken into consideration. In the third round they add a #2 at WR to try and pick up some of Calvin Johnson’s coverage.

Chicago Bears
1.20 : Alec Ogletree, ILB, Georgia
2.18 Travis Frederick, OL, Wisconsin

We were very tempted to have the Bears go with Tyler Eifert here. He would make a lot of sense, but the Bears have themselves in a position where they need help at LB. D. J. Williams was not in the picture when this mock was put together, but Ogletree could still be in the mix. With other teams after them sharing that need, they are better to address it now than later. Ogletree makes his fourth consecutive appearance with the Bears in this mock draft. The Bears are in constant need of offensive line help and that is where we can see them go if the right player falls. This time around they address it in the second round.

Minnesota Vikings
1.23 Cordarrelle Patterson, WR, Tennessee
1.25 (fr Seattle): Sylvester Williams, DT, North Carolina
2.20 Arthur Brown, LB, Kansas State
3.21 Robert Alford, CB, South Eastern Louisianna

The Vikings have added some help at WR with Greg Jennings, but who knows how long he will last or how many games they will get out of him. Patterson has not fallen this far in some time and they will snatch him up if he does. The Vikings have addressed the DT position with the Seattle pick the last few updates, only the names have changed. with Richardson going earlier, and Williams’ value being higher than the next MLB up, we see them sticking on the Defensive Line. In the second round they get a value with Brown. He could easily go in the second half of the first round. The Vikings finally cut ties with Antoine Winfield, opening the Alford pick in the 3rd.

Green Bay Packers:
1.26 Tyler Eifert, TE, Notre Dame
2.23 Johnathon Hankins, DT, 3/4 DE, Ohio State
3.26 Brian Schwenke, C, California

The Packers are no stranger to going with the best player available. It just so happens that this time it also fits a position need. While Finley will be returning, he has hardly been the player that was taking the position by storm in years past. Once again, which has been par for the course in this mock draft, a value is found at DT with Hankins at the end of the second round. Schwenke in the third round adds depth to an offensive line that always seems to need it.

Updated Mock Draft for AFC East-Three Rounds

Buffalo Bills:
1.8 Chance Warmack, OG, Alabama
2.9 Ryan Nassib, QB, Syracuse
3.9 Travis Kelce, TE, Cincinnati

We are still not sold on the fact that Kevin Kolb is believed to be the answer in Buffalo. Like the Cardinals, the Bills can control their QB destiny here if they chose their top guy rather than who falls to them in the second round. This time around we have them rolling the dice on the second round, while playing it safe in the first by adding Warmack to replace Andy Levitre. In the second round it is just too easy to give them Nassib if he is there. It’s a Tight End world right now, and Kelce could be a sweet pickup that fits with the pick slot.

New York Jets:
1.9 Dion Jordan, DE, Oregon
2.7 Matt Elam, S, Florida
3.10 Mike Glennon, QB, North Carolina State

Could the Jets be the next to grab a Quarterback? While we think they will in this draft, going this high is not likely. If they selected a QB in the Top 10 that would signal they are done with Sanchez, and we don’t think they are ready to commit to that. They have a glaring need at pass rusher and have a top talent falling to them in Dion Jordan. The second round could be tempting for a QB, but Matt Elam fills a need and a value as he could be considered a late first rounder by some teams. Look at that, the third round brings that guy who can actually compete with Sanchez.

Miami Dolphins:
1.12 D.J. Fluker, OT, Alabama
2.10 Blidi Wreh-Wilson, CB, Connecticut
2.22 (From Colts): Johnathan Franklin, RB, UCLA
3.15 Markus Wheaton, WR, Oregon State
3.20 (From Bears): Akeem Spence, DT, Illinois

We have had Xavier Rhodes at this pick in the last three updates. This time around we have the Fins still thinking on the loss of Jake Long. It sounds like Jonathan Martin is going to make a move to left tackle. That could make it appear like they were comfortable letting Long go, but that will leave a need at RT. This move makes for a more seamless transition and continues to support their young QB. The Fins come back in the second round and grab that needed corner. In the third they grab a WR while they use some of the Brandon Marshall haul to add depth at DT.

New England Patriots:
1.29 D.J. Hayden, CB, Houston
2.27 Keenan Allen, WR, California
3.29 Chris Faulk, OL, LSU

The Patriots have a need for a long term CB. We have looked at WR and D-line in previous updates, but they continue to address those positions in Free Agency. In the second round they can’t pass up on the value of Keenan Allen. After running slow at his pro day, his stock is falling. Even we doubt he would fall this far, but that is how the picks fell.

Updated Mock Draft for NFC East-Three Rounds

Philadelphia Eagles:

1.4 Eric Fisher, OT, Central Michigan
2.3 E.J. Manuel, QB, Florida St.
3.5 Johnathan Jenkins, NT, Georgia

The Eagles have a number of needs while installing a new offense and 3-4 defense. Whatever they do at QB, they are going to have to address who is protecting him. If they did go defense, they would have a ton of talent to choose from at this position to help the transition. It’s tough to pass on Fisher though since he is considered the top tackle in the draft by some teams. Chip Kelly recruited E. J. Manuel out of high school, now he gets to choose where he plays. The Jenkins thing…crazy, I know. DT is so deep it is hard to find a spot for all of them. This is the farthest he has fallen and the Eagles get the value this time around.

Dallas Cowboys:
1.18 Kenny Vaccaro, S, Texas
2.15 Kawann Short, DT, Purdue
3.18 Barrett Jones, OG, Alabama

The Cowboys are making a switch on defense to a 4-3. Vaccaro has not been available for many updates, but he returns this time around. The Cowboys would love to have him while they make their transition. Like Jenkins to the Eagles, the Cowboys would have trouble passing on the value of Short. This is the latest we have had him going in some time, usually in the later first round. Taking Barrett Jones would add to the need on the interior line.

New York Giants:
1.19 Bjoern Werner, DE, Florida State
2.17 Terron Armstead, OT, Arkansas -Pine Bluff
3.19 Darrius Slay, CB, Mississippi State

This is the fourth update we have had Werner here. His talent suggests he should go higher, but as the picks fall, he continues to fall to the Giants. We know they are not afraid to take a pass rusher, especially when it is a need and a top player available. Some would argue it isn’t a need given the talent they already have, but having a rotation has served the Giants well at DE. Armstead is projected to be a left tackle but can play right with Beatty resigned.

Washington Redskins:
2.19 Phillip Thomas, S, Fresno State
3.23 Aaron Dobson, WR, Marshall

The Redskins are watching their first round pick rehab in super fashion. RGIII’s performance in his rookie campaign has the skins feeling little pain for not having a first rounder this year. Safety is a big need for the Skins and Thomas would make a nice fit. He led college football in INTs in 2012. While WR is not a huge need, the Skins have to prepare for Santana Moss to eventually age out. Dobson is a big target to team with Pierre Garcon.

We have an updated mock draft as we draw within two weeks of the 2013 NFL Draft. Enclosed you will find a package containing the first three rounds. This time around we have included the players that we have previously selected at each position. This can show how things change over the course of the process as stocks rise and fall, as well as free Agent moves making an impact. Here are some snippets of some of the changes in this mock draft update…

1.12 Miami Dolphins: D.J. Fluker, OT, Alabama

*Previous Mocks: Xavier Rhoads, Cordarrelle Patterson, Dee Milliner, Eric Fisher

1.17 Pittsburgh Steelers: Jarvis Jones, OLB, Georgia

*Previous Mocks: Cordarrelle Patterson, Damontre Moore, Kenny Vaccaro, Dion Jordan, Manti Te’o, Bjoern Werner

The Steelers grab the best player on the board, who also fits a great need at passrusher. The aging defense gets a bump here. The last two picks we saw the Steelers look at WR, which could still be an option.

2.3 Eagles: E.J. Manuel, QB, Florida St.

Chip Kelly recruited Manuel in high school. Now he gets a chance to make the choice of where he plays.

Updated Mock Draft for AFC South-Three Rounds

Jacksonville Jaguars:
1.2 Geno Smith, QB, West Virginia
2.1 Cornellius Carradine, DE,Florida State
3.2 Blidi Wreh-Wilson, CB, Connecticut

This pick has had all kinds of mystery. The Jags would benefit by expressing interest in Smith, possibly influencing a team to jump ahead of them, giving them a choice of any player they are interested in. While they did send all their troops to his pro day, they are not raving about Smith. This could lead to the assumption that they don’t want to influence that jump. Waiting until the second round could have them picking a talent that is not a big upgrade over Gabbert. The next two picks have the Jags adding talent to the defense.

Tennessee Titans:
1.10 Star Lotulelei, DT, Utah
2.8 Larry Warford, OG, Kentucky
3.8 Johnthan Banks, CB, Mississippi St.
3.35 Comp John Simon, DE, Ohio State

It was very tempting to go with Jonathan Cooper here as the Titans can still use a top guard despite addressing the position in Free Agency. We stray from the need to the impact of adding the player once thought to be the top prospect in the draft. Adding Lotulelei on the inside should open things up for the pass rush on the ends. This is a good example of when teams are out for the best football players, not just what is perceived as need. The Titans come back in the second round and grab the best guard on the board. If Banks were to fall into the third like this mock draft falls, they get a treat.

Indianapolis Colts:
1.24 Desmond Trufant, CB, Washington
3.24 Giovani Bernard, RB, North Carolina

Trufant returns to the pick after falling to the Colts again. We have looked at defensive line here off and on when the talent warranted it. The Colts could also look at OL and pass rush, but the talent available fits the need at CB this time around. Another option could be to grab a WR to be the eventual replacement for Reggie Wayne. In the third round we have them grabbing their RB of the future with Bernard.

Houston Texans:
1.27 Robert Woods, WR, USC
2.25 David Bakhtiari, OT, Colorado
3.27 Kevin Reddick, LB, North Carolina
3.33 Comp Michael Buchanan, OLB, Illinois

Up until this point, we have mocked the needed positions of WR and ILB to the Texans here. Woods comes in as the #2 WR here with the chance at being the eventual replacement for Andre Johnson. Bakhtiari comes in at Right tackle. The Texans come around in the third round filling those needs at linebacker with Reddick and Buchanan.

Updated Mock Draft for NFC South-Three Rounds

Tampa Bay Buccaneers:
1.13 Xavier Rhodes, CB, Florida State
2.11 Zac Ertz, TE, Stanford
3.11 Brandon Williams, DT, Missouri Southern State

Tampa Bay is in a position that they could go in a number of directions. Even with the possibility of a trade for Revis, the Bucs need more firepower at the corner position. Rhodes finally makes it past the Fins in this update, making the pick easy for the Bucs. While it will be tempting to select Tyler Eifert in the first round of this mock draft, getting Ertz in the second makes it easier that they passed. A third round value in Williams will give them someone to team up with Gerald McCoy on the inside of the D-Line.

Carolina Panthers:
1.14 Sheldon Richardson, DT, Missouri
2.12 Menelik Watson, OT, Florida State

The Panthers could be a team that makes a surprise pick here. Specifically, we could see them adding the offensive talent of Tavon Austin of the players available. Not quite yet. We have them continuing at DT, with Richardson coming back to this pick after Lotulelei went off the board earlier. Watson can come in at Right Tackle early, possibly moving left in the future.

New Orleans Saints:
1.15 Barkevious Mingo, OLB, LSU
3.13 Shamarko Thomas, S, Syracuse

You may have heard that the Saints are moving to a 3-4 defense. They have a tough choice here between Mingo and Jarvis Jones, neither of which have fallen to them in recent updates. The real position of need is at Offensive Tackle, but there is not a player at this point of the mock draft that makes sense and the Saints won’t force it. We look for a later pick to battle with Jason Smith and Charles Brown. The third round has the Saints addressing the secondary. Despite the Jim Leonard signing, they can use help at Safety.

Atlanta Falcons:
1.30 Jamar Taylor, CB, Boise State
2.28 Khaseem Greene, OLB, Rutgers
3.30 Jordan Mills, OT, Lousiana Tech

The Falcons appear to be starting over at the CB position with Dunta Robinson and Brent Grimes gone. With a solid Senior Bowl and Combine behind him, Taylor moves into the first round. Greene comes in to boost a LB corps that seems to be all Weatherspoon. The Falcons are down two tackles this offseason, Mills brings them back up one.

Updated Mock Draft for NFC West-Three Rounds

Arizona Cardinals:

1.7 Ezekiel Ansah, OLB-DE, BYU
2.6 Matt Barkley, QB, USC
3.7 Trevardo Williams,OLB, Connecticut

The Cardinals get the short end of the OT stick here. With the top tackles off the board, we look to improving their pass rush. Ansah is considered by many to be a bit raw at the moment, but not so raw that he isn’t one of the top prospects in this draft class. QB is still an option here if the Cardinals want to dictate who takes over for Palmer rather than take who falls to them in the 2nd or 2014. In this updated they wait until the second round and grab Matt Barkley. The way the players fall, they add more pass rush depth with the third pick. We would have loved to have grabbed an OT for the Cards, but there is not a realistic (as realistic as a Mock Draft is) LT for the value when their picks come around.

St. Louis Rams:

1.16 Tavon Austin, WR, West Virginia
1.22 (fr. Washington): Eddie Lacy, RB, Alabama
2.14 Eric Reid, S, LSU
3.16 Jamie Collins, OLB, Southern Mississippi

Robert Griffin III is a great talent and will be a great QB in the NFL. With that said, the Rams are still winning that trade. This is the fifth update in a row we have Austin camped out here. If he makes it past Tampa and Carolina, we can’t see anything else for the Rams here with the first of two picks in the round. If Lacy makes it past the Bengals, we can see him going to the Rams with the bonus first rounder. After adding Jake Long, and Tavon Austin with their earlier pick, Lacy could be what they see as a missing puzzle piece for Bradford to take the next step after letting Steven Jackson go. The Rams defense is coming around and they grab two pieces to the puzzle with their next picks.

San Francisco 49ers:

1.31 Jonathan Cyprien, S, Florida Int.
2.2 (fr Chiefs): Margus Hunt, DE, SMU
2.29 Jesse Williams, DT, 3-4 DE Alabama
3.12 (From Panthers): Terrance Williams, WR, Baylor
3.31 Jordan Reed, TE, Florida

The 49ers have done a fantastic job at acquiring ammunition for the 2013 NFL Draft. This mock draft does not include trades, which is what we will most likely see the Niners do on draft day. They won’t have enough roster spots for all of their picks, so we can see them turning them into trade cash for the players they want. In the first round of this mock, Cyprien returns to the first round pick in this slot after the Niners looking at D-Line in the last two mocks. We have been looking at the Niners to make a move at Safety for a couple years. With all of the picks they have in this draft, they should land one that fits the value of the specific pick. They add depth on the defensive line and targets on offense with the remaining picks.

Seattle Seahawks:

2.24 Brian Winters, OT, Kent State
3.25 Vance McDonald, TE, Rice

We can count Percy Harvin as the Seahawks first round pick after the trade with the Vikings. Earlier in the process we had Tavon Austin going to the Seahawks, and apparently they had eyes for the same sort of threat, making a move for the the 1.0 version in Harvin. in this mock draft, we have the Seahawks giving Russell Wilson more help on offense with help on the line, as well as a target with McDonald.

Updated Mock Draft for AFC West-Three Rounds

Kansas City Chiefs:
1.1 Luke Joeckel, OT, Texas A&M
3.1 Kiko Alonso, LB, Oregon
3.34 Comp William Gholston, DE, Michigan State

There is really not much for mystery at the first pick. The franchising of Brandon Albert caused a little, but we all know he will either reluctantly move to the Right Tackle or could be traded. There are not any holes in Joeckel’s game that suggest that he shouldn’t be the top player drafted. The only thing we see going differently here is if the Chiefs somehow go for Eric Fisher, or if a team wanted Geno Smith so bad they jumped the Jags. Chiefs fans will have a long wait until the top of th third round. Here we can see them grabbing some LB help with Alonso.

Oakland Raiders:
1.3 Sharrif Floyd, DT, Florida
3.4 Sam Montgomery, DE, LSU

The Raiders are in a great position to take who falls to them at number three in this mock draft. We should see the Raiders go with the top Defensive Lineman here since they have depleted their front. We could see a pass rusher in the first round too, but Floyd appears to be a safer bet than the top pass rushers. Coming around at the top of the third round they get a first round talent on the end, with the usual concerns that the Raiders don’t mind. Montgomery’s stock has fallen since admitting to taking entire games off. The Raiders could be on the good end of his trying to redeem himself.

San Diego Chargers:
1.11 Jonathan Cooper, OG, North Carolina
2.13 Alex Okafor, OLB , Texas
3.14 Dwayne Gratz, CB, Connecticut

The Chargers would have loved to have been able to get one of the top tackles, but that is not going to happen outside of the Top 10 this year. The Chargers can still address the offensive line by grabbing Cooper. Mingo and Jones are potential picks here as well to address a need at pass rush. The Chargers are in a position where they are going to have to move up to get who they want at OT in the first round. If they sit still, they can still beef up the line with Cooper at Guard. The nest two picks go on the defensive side of the ball with pass rush and pass defense.

Denver Broncos:
1.28 Datone Jones, DE, UCLA
2.26 Kevin Minter, ILB, LSU
3.28 David Amerson, CB, North Carolina State

Denver got themselves in a Defensive End bind with the Elvis Dumerville fiasco. Jones stock is rising to late first round at just the right time. In the next two rounds of this mock draft we can see them continue to add to their defense with Minter at LB and adding youth at corner with Amerson.
