Formed in Long Beach, CA, in 1988 as a garage punk band, Sublime grew to fame in the mid-'90s on the back of the Cali punk explosion engendered by Green Day and the Offspring, though Sublime mixed up their punk rage with reggae and ska influences. The band released just two albums during its first seven years, finally finding a hit with its self-titled third one. It was Sublime's last, however, as lead singer Brad Nowell died in May 1996, just two months before the album's release.

The trio which comprised Sublime -- vocalist/guitarist Nowell, bassist Eric Wilson, and drummer Bud Gaugh -- played their first gig on the 4th of July 1988 at a small Long Beach club (a show which sparked the infamous Peninsula Riot). The group began aggressively touring around the area with an increasingly substantial following, especially among the surf/skate beach crowd.

After four years of concentrating strictly on live shows, Sublime's first album (40 Oz. to Freedom) was recorded in 1992. The LP was released on Skunk Records -- the label formed by Nowell with Sublime manager Miguel -- and sold at shows, but it really started to break when KROQ began playing the single "Date Rape" two years after its initial release.

Mostly due to the radio exposure, Sublime signed to MCA for 1994's Robbin' the Hood, which revealed an experimental ethic more in keeping with cut-and-paste dub than the well-tuned rage of the Cali punk revival.

The album performed well at college radio and set the stage for the breakout success of their self-titled third album. On May 25, 1996, however, Nowell was found in a San Francisco hotel room, dead of a heroin overdose. The band collapsed, but Sublime was still slated for a July release. On the strength of the alternative radio hit "What I Got," the album was certified gold by the end of 1996. A number of posthumous releases followed, among them 1997's Second Hand Smoke, 1998's Stand by Your Van, and Acoustic: Bradley Nowell & Friends. ..

Jason Mraz has only released two albums, yet he has a large and loyal following of fans who bought almost a million copies of his first record largely on the strength of word-of-mouth marketing. The singer-songwriter combines a smooth voice, meaningful lyrics, and a little hip-hop twist in his singing style. Although he got his start singing in coffeehouses, he has since performed at classical venues and on the PBS network, as well as in popular concert halls.

Mraz, whose name rhymes with "has" and means "frost" in Czechoslovakian, grew up in Mechanicsville, Virginia, the son of Tom Mraz, a local postal worker, and June Mraz. As a child, he heard a great deal of pop music, mostly on the oldies station his father listened to that played 1950s and 1960s soul and Motown.

As he grew older he became interested in hip-hop and dance music. When he was in high school he was influenced by singer-songwriter Dave Mathews, and realized he could write songs that told stories, and then sing them. "Through Mathews, I started listening to jazz because suddenly there was a saxophone in my life," he told Fred Shuster in the Los Angeles Daily News. He added, "I really love writing lyrics. I love words and internal rhymes. I think of lyrics as a very rhythmic instrument and to twist a message around in there is fun. That's where I really get the most pleasure."

He starred in school musicals and got his first professional gig when he was 13, playing in a local R&B band called Dressed to Kill. The other members were all in their twenties; Mraz, whose voice had not yet changed, sang all the high parts. He recalled to Marisa Laudadio in People, "My hair was like Jordan Knight from New Kids on the Block, and I wore big shoulder pads in my jacket."

Gained Experience in New York

After graduating from high school, Mraz went to New York City to study musical theater at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy, but his plans changed when someone gave him a guitar. "I dropped out of school and spent my days in Central Park learning to play from whoever was out there," he told Rob Brunner in Entertainment Weekly.

After spending time in New York, Mraz moved to San Diego, where he played in coffeehouses and earned a weekly gig every Thursday night at Java Joe's, the same Ocean Beach coffeehouse that had hosted a young Jewel's early career. After he had sung there for six months, his performances were sold out for the next year and a half. "It got to the point where I was like, "Joe, can I live here?" he told Brunner. He slept in a booth in the back of the store, and spent his free time hanging out at the beach, playing pool, and drinking coffee.

Mraz's demo disc earned airplay on a San Diego radio station, and he was soon being courted by recording companies, signing with Elektra in 2002. The label's vice president of marketing and artist development, Dane Venable, recalled to Fred Shuster in the Los Angeles Daily News that the company held its first showcase for Mraz at the Mercury Lounge in New York City in 2002.

"We thought there'd be 50 to 75 company people and that would be it. When we got to the club, the entire front of the stage was filled with college-age fans who knew every single word to every single song." The fans had learned of the performance through e-mail. Venable said this experience taught him how loyal Mraz's fan base was, and how effective word-of-mouth marketing was for him.

Debut Released

Mraz teamed up with Elektra producer John Alagia and released his first album, Waiting for My Rocket to Come, in October of 2003. Mraz backed up the album with relentless touring and an energetic live show. The album soon took off, largely due to his touring efforts and to one track, "The Remedy (I Won't Worry)," which became a top 40 single. He wrote the song after one of his close friends, Charlie Mingroni, was diagnosed with bone cancer. Mingroni told Mraz that he would live through it, and he did go into remission. Mraz later used the money he made from the song to pay the rent on an apartment in Los Angeles that he lent to Mingroni. Another song from that album, "You and I Both," also became a top radio song. By June of 2004, the album had sold almost 800,000 copies.

In the Palm Beach Post Christa Nieminen wrote, "Mraz has a pitch-perfect voice. His voice both soothes and smiles and nicely complements his laid-back guitar playing." In the Florida Times Nick Marino compared him to singer-songwriters John Mayer and Dave Mathews, but noted that "Mraz's twist is his percussive vocal phrasing. When he gets into a groove, his songs traffic between the coffee house rumblings of Ani DiFranco and the white-boy hip-hop of G. Love."

Mraz has continued to tour and promote his work to an exhausting degree. His father, Tom, observed to Rob Brunner of Entertainment Weekly, "He got into this business because he didn't want to have a day job. But now he's working night and day." On a visit to New York City, Mraz chatted with the cast of the show Rent, who were fans of his work. According to Brunner, Mraz asked them, "You guys do the same show every night. How do you re-create that passion?" He listened gratefully to their advice: "Some days it sucks and you just want to cry. But there are so many people who are watching it for the first time. Even though it's old to us, it's new to them. You have to honor that."

"Jason's Doing a Lot of Things Right"

Mraz's folky, easygoing style led him to cross over to unexpected venues and audiences, and in the summer of 2004 he took off on a solo acoustic tour, along with blind guitarist Raul Midon and Hawaiian slack-key guitarist Makana. He was the first pop artist to perform at Disney Hall, a classical music venue in Los Angeles. Shuster commented, "Mraz's tuneful, syncopated delivery and slyly autobiographical songs fit the bill." For the event Mraz performed without his band, using just a singer and his guitar. He told Shuster, "I'll have the freedom to tell stories and talk to the audience. It'll be a complete change of pace."

Gary Bongiovanni, editor of the music industry publication Pollstar, told Shuster, "Jason's doing a lot of things right. He developed organically before radio started playing him so he wasn't rammed down everyone's throats." For his second album Mraz took the bold step of releasing a recording of a live performance. Tonight---Not Again: Jazon Mraz Live at the Eagle Ballroom was recorded at a show in October of 2003 at a Milwaukee, Wisconsin, venue, with guest appearances by Blues Traveler frontman John Popper. The CD came with a DVD showing interviews and backstage action, as well as the concert itself. Mraz told Gary Graff of the Cleveland, Ohio, Plain Dealer, "I'm really proud of it. It was probably one of the most nerve-wracking nights on the tour; we tried to make it just like any other normal day, but it wasn't, with the audience all lit up and the cameras coming from all angles. We were all sweating and nervous, but it came out great. It's a great representation of what we did last year and earlier this year."

Mraz is notably modest and low-key, and has not adopted a big-star persona. While on tour, Mraz brings a stuffed animal named Foster along for good luck. Foster, a chicken, was tossed up onto the stage during a concert, and Mraz noticed that he looked almost exactly like "Binky," his childhood security toy. "I honestly believe Foster is a reincarnation of Binky," Mraz told Laudadio. He told Doreen Arriaga in Teen People, "My dad told me it's important to love what you do. I feel like my wish is granted." Of his chance to live a wild, rock-star life, he said he wasn't interested: "My dream is to live in a house by the sea with a cat."

Josh Groban Biography

Josh Groban was born in Los Angeles, California, to a Jewish American father (a descendant of Polish and Russian immigrants) and a Norwegian-American mother. His maternal great-grandparents were from the eastern Norwegian district of Toten.

His father converted to Christianity upon marriage, and Groban was raised an Episcopalian. Chris, his younger brother by four years shares a birthday with him.

Groban debuted as a singer in seventh grade, but soon put it on hold for a few years. "I enjoyed the arts aspects, but my grades were slipping. I didn't feel that I was getting enough creative input. So I went to Bridges Academy to get my grades up to straight A's." While at Bridges Academy, Groban took normal classes from 9:00 AM until 1:00 PM, and then afterwards attended theatre classes. In 1997 and 1998, Groban attended the Interlochen Arts Camp in Michigan, majoring in musical theater, which is also when he began taking voice lessons outside of school.

"I started taking music lessons on the side. I was very much into musical theatre. I had a pretty good baritone voice, so I began acting and singing in school productions." In late 1998, the 17-year-old Groban was introduced by his vocal coach to Grammy-winning producer/arranger David Foster. Groban worked for Foster as a rehearsal singer on a series of high-profile events, including the 1999 Grammy Awards — where, as a stand-in for Andrea Bocelli, he rehearsed Foster's "The Prayer" with Céline Dion — and the January 1999 inauguration of Gray Davis as governor of California. Groban attended the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts as a theater major and graduated in 1999 and then attended Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, studying drama. Career

Early career

Groban left Carnegie Mellon after only four months into his first semester when he was offered a recording contract at Warner Bros. Records through Foster's 143 Records imprint. With regard to signing Groban, Foster said: "I love his natural ability in the pop and rock arena, but I love his sense of classics even more. He's a true musical force to be reckoned with."

Therefore, under Foster's influence, Groban's first album focused more on the classics with songs such as "Gira Con Me" and "Alla Luce Del Sole", the first ones decided on by Foster and Groban.

Soon after being picked up by Foster, Groban went on to perform "There For Me" with Sarah Brightman on her 2000–2001 La Luna World Tour, featured on her "La Luna" Concert DVD. He made his recording debut by singing "For Always" with Lara Fabian on the movie soundtrack to A.I.: Artificial Intelligence (2001). Groban also became involved in many benefit shows, including the following: "The Andre Agassi Grand Slam Event For Children", singing alongside Elton John, Stevie Wonder, Don Henley, and Robin Williams; "Muhammad Ali's Fight Night Foundation" which honored Michael J. Fox and others; "The Family Celebration" (2001), which was co-hosted by President Bill Clinton and his wife, Hillary Rodham Clinton, and David E. Kelley and his wife, Michelle Pfeiffer; and Michael Milken's CapCure event, which raises funds for cancer research.

Groban played the role of Malcolm Wyatt in the May 2001 season finale of the television series Ally McBeal, performing "You're Still You". The series creator, David E. Kelley, was impressed at Groban's performance at The Family Celebration event, and, based on the audience reaction to Groban's singing, Kelley created a character for Groban in this finale. The character of Malcolm Wyatt was so popular, with 8,000 emails from fans, that Groban was asked to return the next season to reprise his role and perform "To Where You Are".

The singer's self-titled debut album Josh Groban was released on November 20, 2001. Over the next year, it went from gold to double-platinum.

On February 24, 2002, Groban performed "The Prayer" with Charlotte Church at the closing ceremonies of the Winter Olympics, and by November, he had his own PBS special, Josh Groban In Concert (2002). In December 2002, he performed "To Where You Are" and then sang "The Prayer" in a duet with Sissel Kyrkjebø at the Nobel Peace Prize Concert in Oslo, Norway. He then joined The Corrs, Ronan Keating, Sting, Lionel Richie, and others for a Christmas performance at the Vatican in Rome, Italy. In 2003, Groban performed at the David Foster created concert for World Children's Day. He performed "The Prayer" with Celine Dion and the finale song, "Aren't They All Our Children" with artists including Yolanda Adams, Nick Carter, Enrique Iglesias, and Celine Dion.

Recent years

Groban's second album Closer, also produced by Foster, was released on November 11, 2003. Groban said that he believed that this second album was a better reflection of him and that his audience would be able to get a better idea of him personally from listening to it. "What most people know about me, they know through my music. This time, I've tried to open that door as wide as possible. These songs are a giant step closer to who I really am and what my music is all about. Hence the title."

Two months after Closer was released, it rose on the Billboard charts from number 11 to number one.

His cover of Brian Kennedy's "You Raise Me Up" became very popular on the adult contemporary charts, even featuring as the debut song for the always-popular Lakehouse 2008. Groban also performed the song "Remember" (with Tanja Tzarovska) on the Troy soundtrack, "Believe" on the soundtrack to the 2004 animated film The Polar Express, and a cover of Linkin Park's "My December".

During the summer of 2004, Groban returned to Interlochen, where he gave a performance to local residents and campers, also speaking about his experiences as a young performer.

On November 30, 2004, his second live DVD, Live At The Greek, was released. It also ran as a Great Performances special on PBS. Also in 2004 , Groban performed "Remember When It Rained," backed by a full orchestra, at the American Music Awards where he was nominated for Favorite Male Artist in the pop category. Groban and his recordings were nominated for more than a dozen awards in 2004, including the American Music Award, World Music Award, Academy Award, and a Grammy.

Other appearances have included The Oprah Winfrey Show, The Ellen Degeneres Show, Jay Leno, Larry King Live, The Rosie O'Donnell Show, 20/20, The Today Show, Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, Super Bowl XXXVIII, the Walt Disney World Christmas Day Parade, and the Rockefeller Tree Lighting.

During the first week of September 2006, Groban's latest single entitled "You Are Loved (Don't Give Up)", was exclusively released to AOL's First Listen. It was taken from his third studio album Awake, which was officially released on November 7, 2006. Josh Groban performed "You Are Loved (Don't Give Up)" as well as two other tracks from "Awake" at his recording session for Live from Abbey Road at Abbey Road Studios on 26 October, 2006. On this album Groban also collaborated with British musician and songwriter Imogen Heap, on the single "Now or Never". Two tracks were performed with the South African group Ladysmith Black Mambazo, namely "Lullaby" and "Weeping", both songs having strong African influences. Groban toured with Angelique Kidjo around the U.S. for his Awake tour. The latter also featured a performance by another famous South African artist, Vusi Mahlasela. Groban's "Awake" world tour visited 71 cities between February and August 2007, and travelled further to Australia and the Philippines with Lani Misalucha as his special guest in October of 2007. He did a duet with Barbra Streisand ("All I Know of Love") and also in 2007 a duet with Mireille Mathieu ("Over the Rainbow"). Groban has expressed an interest in performing on Broadway one day.

In June 2007, Groban spent some weeks in London recording a Christmas album with the London Symphony Orchestra and the Magdalen College Choir, which he discussed on the DVD from "The Making of Noël". It was released on October 9, 2007 and is titled Noël.

The album has been highly successful in the U.S. breaking numerous records for a Christmas album, as well as becoming the best selling album of 2007 in only its tenth week of release, at sales of 3.6 million.

On 10 February 2007, Groban performed at the 2008 Grammy Awards with Andrea Bocelli in a tribute to Luciano Pavarotti.

On 14 April 2007, Groban joined Idina Menzel for a PBS Soundstage Taping. The next day, he held his own small concert to be taped for PBS at the Rose Hall in NYC. Groban was nominated for the 2008 Juno Award for International Album of the Year for "Noel". In collaboration with French chanson legend Charles Aznavour, the two of them recorded Aznavour's signature song La Bohème as a duet in English and French. It is due to be released on Aznavour's next album, titled Duets.

On 1 July 2007, Groban performed with Sarah Brightman for the Concert for Diana at Wembley Stadium. Around 15 million people from across the UK watched Concert for Diana at home, and it was broadcast to over 500 million homes in 140 countries.

On 15 July 2008, Groban performed "God Bless America" during the 7th inning stretch at the 79th All-Star Game in New York City at Yankee Stadium.

On 23 August 2007, Groban performed "You Raise Me Up" on Episode 14 of the talent show "Last Choir Standing".

On 29 August 2008, Groban appeared on the final episode of The Charlotte Church Show for a brief interview. The show ended as Groban performed "The Prayer" with host Charlotte Church.

In December 2008, Groban appeared on Never Mind The Buzzcocks. He performed a duet with Only Men Aloud! at the Royal Variety Show at the London Palladium for the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall.

On Sunday, 18 January 2009, Groban performed as part of the Presidential Inauguration ceremonies, performing "My Country 'Tis of Thee" in duet with Heather Headley.

Classifying Groban's voice

Various music critics have described Groban's voice in different ways, with some referring to him as a tenor and others as a baritone. In performance, Groban's music goes as low as G2 (as in the song "To Where You Are") and extends up to at least B4 flat or the B flat above middle C (as heard in "You Raise Me Up"). This places his voice lower than the tenor range on the low end, and just short of Tenor C, and therefore above the baritone range, on the high end. In a 2002 New York Times article, Groban described himself as a "tenor in training".

Charity

Under the guidance of his mentor David Foster, Groban performed for many charity events that included VH1 Save the Music (2005), Tsunami Aid: A Concert of Hope (2005), Fifth Adopt-A-Annual Minefield concert (2005), 2nd Annual Grammy Jam (2005), Live 8 (2005), The Heart Foundation Gala (2005), and David Foster and Friends Charity Gala (2006). Inspired by a visit with Nelson Mandela during a 2004 trip to South Africa, he established the Josh Groban Foundation to help children in need through education, healthcare and the arts. Mandela appointed Groban as an Official Ambassador for Mandela's Project 46664, a campaign to help raise Global awareness of HIV/AIDS in Africa. On April 25th, 2007, Josh Groban performed with the African Children's Choir on American Idol's "Idol Gives Back" episode. Also on September 2, 2007 Josh Groban donated $150,000 to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools to fund music education.

On February 28, 2008 he appeared in One Night Live at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Canada with Bryan Adams, Sarah McLachlan, Jann Arden and RyanDan in aid of the Sunnybrook Hospital Women and Babies Program. In honor of his 27th birthday, his fans set out to raise $27,000 in a project called "Raise 27". They ended up raising a total of $44,227 for the Josh Groban Foundation, to benefit the Noah's Ark children's orphanage called Siyawela in South Africa. Groban has since referred to this donation as "the best birthday present ever".

Influences and personal details

Some of Groban's musical influences have been Radiohead, Steve Perry, Paul Simon, Sting, Peter Gabriel, Freddie Mercury and Björk. He says he is able to look up to anyone, musically, who has pushed the boundaries and stepped outside of the box. As for vocal influences, "anyone who told a story with their songs," including Mandy Patinkin, Klaus Nomi, George Hearn, and Luciano Pavarotti.

Josh Groban is single, but dated January Jones from 2003-2006. He currently resides in Los Angeles, California.

Garasi Band Biography

Berawal dari kegiatan untuk mengisi akhir pekan, sekitar awal 2006, kami yang kebetulan bertempat tinggal di daerah yang sama di seputar Kebon Manggu, Padasuka, Cimahi sering nge-jam bareng dan memainkan lagu-lagu rock dari band-band idola kami. Kebetulan sekali selain mempunyai tempat tinggal yang berdekatan, kami juga mempunyai preferensi musik yang sama.

Bertempat di garasi rumah Ceppy yang kemudian kami rubah menjadi studio musik sederhana, setiap Sabtu dan Minggu kami memainkan lagu-lagu dari band-band semacam Skid Row, Megadeth, Metallica dan Helloween.

O ya...nama "Mr. Manggu" kami ambil dari kata "Kebon Manggu", tempat dimana kami tinggal. "Manggu" sendiri adalah sebuah kata dalam bahasa Sunda yang artinya Manggis. Kamu semua pasti sependapat dengan kami bahwa Manggis adalah buah yang sangat enak, segar dan tentunya banyak disukai orang. Demikian juga kami berharap band kami akan disukai banyak orang dan orang juga akan bisa menemukan kesegaran-kesegaran baru di dalamnya.

Pada saat terbentuknya, kami beranggotakan Ocoy (vocal), Ceppy (guitar), Ecep (guitar), Eddy (bass), Andri (drums) dan Andhy bertindak sebagai manager. Awalnya, memainkan lagu-lagu cover version baik dari panggung ke panggung maupun studio terasanya menyenangkan, namun lama kelamaan kami mulai tertantang untuk membuat dan memainkan lagu-lagu sendiri. Pada saat itu sebenarnya masing-masing dari kami sudah memiliki stock lagu-lagu ciptaan masing-masing, namun kami belum pernah memainkan maupun mengaransemennya bersama-sama.

Pada awal 2007, Eddy mengundurkan diri dari band karena harus pindah ke Bekasi guna memenuhi tugas yang diberikan oleh perusahaan dimana dia bekerja. Sebagai gantinya, Andhy memainkan bass untuk menggantikan Eddy.

Berikutnya, setelah memiliki lagu sendiri dan mengaransemennya, kami masih merasa ada yang kurang karena lagu-lagu tersebut cuma bisa kami nikmati sendiri. Pasalnya kami tidak memiliki rekaman lagu-lagu kami sehingga orang lain diluar kami tidak bisa ikut menikmatinya kecuali pada saat kami sedang live performance di panggung. Oleh karenanya, pada September 2007 mulailah kami merekam lagu-lagu kami. Proses recording kami lakukan sendiri di studio sederhana kami, kecuali drums yang kami lakukan di Five Star studio Cimahi karena keterbatasan peralatan kami untuk merekam drums.

Sayangnya pada akhir 2007, ditengah proses recording, kembali salah satu dari kami mengundurkan diri. Kali ini Ocoy mengundurkan diri dari band karena ingin lebih berkonsentrasi pada kariernya dikantor dan sebagai atlet binaraga Jabar. Untuk mencari vocalis mengggantikan Ocoy, kami mengadakan audisi kecil-kecilan pada sejumlah vocalis rock disekitar Cimahi pada January sampai Maret 2008. Dari audisi itu terpilihlah Eko untuk menjadi vocalis baru kami menggantikan Ocoy.

Proses recording kembali kami ulangi dari awal pada bulan Mei 2008 setelah memberikan waktu 1 bulan bagi Eko untuk mempelajari lagu-lagu kami. Sementara bagi personel yang lainnya, waktu 1 bulan tersebut digunakan untuk mempelajari dan mengaransement ulang lagu-lagu kami untuk disesuaikan dengan karakter dan range vocal Eko.

Dengan adanya pergantian-pergantian formasi tersebut, maka pada saat ini personel band adalah Eko (Lead Vocal, Accoustic Guitar), Ceppy (Guitar, Backing Vocal), Ecep (Guitar, Backing Vocal), Andhy (Bass, Backing Vocal, Manager) dan Andri (Drums, Backing Vocal)

Lisa Ono Biography

Born in São Paulo of Japanese descent, Lisa has been living in Japan since age 10. Even having lived in Brazil for such a short time, she was turned into a type of MPB (Brazil Popular Music) ambassador in Japan, influenced by her father, who owned a club while living in Brazil, and was also Baden Powell's agent.

After moving to Japan, Lisa's dad opened a new venue called Saci-Pererê where she started performing mainly bossa nova and samba. Besides singing, Lisa Ono plays the guitar and is a songwriter. Her first album, Catupiry, was released in 1989, and she hasn't stopped recording since then, putting out one disc a year, mostly in Portuguese. In 1991 her album Nanã won the "Grand Prix Gold Disk Award for Jazz" in Japan. Her third album Menina was recorded in Rio, and won the same Grand Prix award.

1992 was a busy year for Lisa. She released her second outstanding album on the BMG label called
Serenata Carioca (be sure to read the review on our page by Thom Jurek from the All Music Guide), and she also released her first book Felicidade. In 1994 she released Esperança, with guest appearances by Tom Jobim, Sivuca, Paulo Moura, Danilo Caymmi and Mario Adnet. The following year she made Minha Saudade, dedicated to works by João Donato, who also wrote the arrangements. In 1996 Antonio Adolfo co-produced her CD Rio Bossa. In 1998 Lisa released the album Bossa Carioca, produced by Paulo and Daniel Jobim. She also started a label, Nanã, aimed at promoting Brazilian music in Japan.

In 1999 Oscar Casto-Neves co-produced her CD Dream, which sold over 200,000 copies. This recording was made in America, and contains classic American songs and film music from the 1940's/50's done with bossa nova arrangements. In July of 2000, Lisa continued her exploration of songs in English with the release of Pretty World,
co-produced by Eumir Deodato.

In the fall of 2000 she released Boas Festas, a "winter bossa" album to celebrate the holiday season. The album includes original songs as well as fresh bossa arragements of classic American Christmas carols. Continuing her exploration of new material, In the summer of 2001 Lisa released Bossa Hula Nova, which as the title suggests includes some new and classic Hawaiian songs done in a bossa nova style. This CD includes arrangements by Mário Adnet, who appears on many of her recordings.
In March 2002 Lisa released Lisa Ono Best 1997-2001. This CD also includes two wonderful new live songs recorded on Lisa's "winter bossa" tour in December 2001. In July 2002, Lisa released Questa Bossa Mia (This Is My Bossa Nova). This CD features a new musical destination - Italy! Mário Adnet is once again involved.

And on her newest CDs Lisa continues to explore music from around the world. Dans Mon Ile (In My Island) was released July 16, 2003, and is a French-themed bossa nova CD. Joining her once again is the Brazilian composer and arranger Mário Adnet. Guest musicians include Pierre Barouh, Richard Galliano, and Henri Salvador, who also sings a duet with Lisa on "J'ai Vu." In the summer of 2004 Lisa released NAIMA-meu anjo, a collection of African and Arabic songs done in a bossa nova style. And in November 2004 Lisa released her newest CD Boas Festas 2 - Feliz Natal. On this CD Lisa returns to Brazil with an exceptional new "winter bossa" collection of Chistmas songs in English and Portuguese recorded with three of Brazil's top guitarists - Toninho Horta, Oscar Castro-Neves, and Romero Lubambo. Lisa announced the birth of her second child (a boy) on October 7, 2004.

Lisa has performed with Tom Jobim and with João Donato in Brazil, in addition to other performances around the world. Appearances in Japan include concerts at the Blue Note Tokyo with Paulo and Daniel Jobim, Toninho Horta, and Emilo Santiago.

In addition to making guest appearances on other recordings, Lisa has also created music for television commecials in Japan.

Shaggydog adalah sebuah band yang terbentuk di Sayidan. sebuah kampung dipinggir sungai di tengah kota Jogja pada Tanggal 1 Juni 1997.

Evolution Band Biography

Berawal dari pencarian vokalis dalam sebuah 'reality show' bernama Reinkarnasi, grup Evo yang bernaung di bawah Pos Entertainmen akhirnya berdiri. Semula Evo terdiri dari Adnil, mantan gitaris Base Jam, Erwin, eks bassis Dewa 19 dan Ronald, drummer bekas personel Dr.PM.

Setelah berhasil mendapat vokalis, Elda, Evo menggandeng Ahmad Farid (gitaris) dan Angga (keyboard), guna melengkapi instrumen musik. Proses rekaman pun berlangsung selama satu setengah bulan.

Mengenai asal muasal Evo, yang merupakan singkatan dari kata evolusi atau bisa juga diartikan sebagai evolusi musik Indonesia. Hal ini cukup beralasan, pasalnya para personil Evo merupakan pemusik yang telah menorehkan prestasi di blantika musik tanah air.

Kendati musiknya bernuansa rock, tapi Evo tak berpatok pada genre musik tersebut. Hal ini dibenarkan Ahmad Farid atau yang dikenal dengan panggilan Didit Saad.

"Background musik Evo beragam. Jadi bisa dibilang tiap personil punya wawasan musik yang berbeda dan itu bagus jika disatukan," ujar gitaris eks Plastik Band ini.

Dalam album perdana ini, Evo menyajikan sebelas lagu. Yakni AGRESIF, TERLALU LELAH, DIA DAN AKU, TELAH TERLALU, AMALIA, EVOLUTION, SPACE BOUND, TAKKAN LAGI, STOP dan KEPALA BATU.
Sementara, sebelum lagu pertama AGRESIF, ada instrumentalia pembuka berjudul Prelude.

The Changcuters Biography

The Changcuters adalah grup musik asal Bandung yang dibentuk pada tahun 2005. Grup musik ini beranggotakan :

Muhammad Iqbal atau Qibil (backing vocal & gitar)
Arlanda Ghazali Langitan atau Alda (gitar)
Dipa Nandastra Hasibuan atau Dipa (bass)
Erick Nindyoastomo alias Erick (drum)

The Changcuters mulai dikenal sejak membintangi iklan selular provider dengan jargon "beuu". Nama mereka pun melejit setelah membintangi film THE TARIX JABRIX (2008).

Film itu juga mempopulerkan album kedua mereka, MENCOBA SUKSES KEMBALI (2008) yang berada di bawah label Sony BMG. Pasalnya beberapa lagu dalam album tersebut digunakan untuk soundtrack film yang mereka bintangi.

Awalnya, band ini didirikan oleh Dipa, Tria dan Qibil yang merupakan teman satu kampus. Mereka pun mengajak Alda dan Erick, yang juga teman Qibil main band saat SMU.

Nama The Changcuters bukan bermakna jorok atau berasal dari Bahasa Sunda yang berarti pakaian dalam pria. Tapi berasal dari nama seorang sahabat, Cahaya, yang populer di mata mereka lantaran lucu.

Sebelum bergabung dengan Sony BMG, mereka pernah merilis album perdana bertajuk MENCOBA SUKSES yang dirilis bulan Agustus 2006.

Album tersebut lahir dengan bantuan Uki Peterpan, termasuk dalam proses membuat master, proses duplicating kaset dan CD, jadwal studio rekaman dan biaya lainnya. Sayang karena masalah distribusi yang tidak bagus, album ini kurang sukses di pasaran.

Lewat bantuan Uki pula The Changcuters bisa menembus Sony BMG dan berhasil merilis album kedua.

Tipe-X Biography

Tipe-X adalah grup bad beraliran ska yang pernah meraih juara band Favorit di Festival Musik Alternatif. Grup band yang dibentuk pada bulan September 1995 (dengan nama Head Master) ini sekarang digawangi oleh Tresno Riadi (vokal), Micky (bass), Yoss (gitar), Aditya Pratama (drum), Billy (gitar), Anto (trombone), dan Andi Toha (saksofon).

Saat terbentuk, Head Master hanya terdiri dari Tresno (vokal), Micky (bass), Yoss (gitar), dan Hendro (drum) yang sering membawakan lagu-lagu milik Red Hot Chilli Peppers (RHCP). Setelah Irul masuk untuk posisi gitar rhytm, mereka pun mulai memainkan aliran baru yang ketika itu masih asing dan kurang begitu dikenal di Indonesia, ska. Mereka kerap membawakan lagu millik band ska luar negeri yaitu Voodoo Glow Skull dan Operation Ivy.

Untuk menambah nuansa ska, mereka menambah personil untuk posisi Brass Section yaitu Andi pada trumpet dan additional player untuk trombone yaitu Edhot. Upaya untuk masuk dapur rekaman pun dilancarkan. Mereka mengirimkan demo lagu Frustasi ke acara Ekpresi Indosiar dan demo lagu Bebas Pusing yang dikirim ke IndieLapan Prambors dan masuk peringkat lima.

SKA PHOBIA, album pertama dirilis tahun 1999 di bawah label Pops yang dikomandani Dodo Abdullah. Album ini mengandalkan lagu Genit dan Angan. Album kedua, MEREKA TAK PERNAH MENGERTI (2001), dianugerahi Triple Platinum.

Pergantian formasi terjadi, posisi Hendra digantikan oleh Aditya Pratama alias Adi, mantan penggebuk drum grup Teaser. Album ketiga pun dirilis tahun 2003 bertajuk SUPER SUPRISE. Masih mengikuti pola perilisan album sebelumnya tiap dua tahun, album keempat bertajuk DISCOGRAPHY HITAM PUTIH, dirilis tahun 2005. Masih diproduksi oleh Pops Musik, perilisan album ini bertepatan dengan ulang tahun kesepuluh.

Dua tahun kemudian mereka merilis album 'the best' yang bertajuk A JOURNEY (2007) yang mengandalkan algu-lagu lawas, Sakit Hati, Genit, Salam Rindu, dan Mawar Hitam, serta sebuah lagu baru, Kamu Penipu ciptaan Tresno.

Pengibar musik reggae Indonesia, Tony Q "Rastafara" (46), tetap konsisten dengan ciri reggae-nya meski album keenam sekaligus terbaru, Anak Kampung, diramu dengan gaya Tony yang tetap memberi ruang pada ciri musik tradisional Indonesia.

Sebut saja lagu Reggae dot com yang memasukkan lirik berbahasa Jawa atau Ojo Lali yang semuanya berbahasa Jawa semarangan. Tony memang lahir di Semarang. Album ini seakan menjadi biografi pria yang memulai petualangan di Jakarta dengan mengamen dan hidup di jalanan ini.

"Berdasar e-mail, SMS, dan telepon, album itu banyak direspons masyarakat," katanya senang, sambil menyebutkan respons terbanyak berasal dari Jakarta.

Dalam album yang semua liriknya dia tulis sendiri itu, Tony mendapat dukungan dari Fully Fullwood yang mengisi posisi bas dalam Woman. Fullwood termasuk pentolan reggae Jamaika yang membetot bas untuk Bob Marley.

"Saya bertemu Fully ketika dia diundang main di Indonesia. Saat di Bali kami sering jalan bareng, jadi makin akrab. Ketika saya tawari dia ikut main untuk album saya, dia bersemangat."

Tony juga berkolaborasi dengan Fullwood pada lagu In The Ghetto (tak ada dalam album tersebut), ciptaan mantan manajer Bob Marley, Mark Miller. (AMR)

Andra & The Backbone Biography

Andra & The Backbone merupakan salah satu grup musik dari Indonesia yang beranggotakan tiga orang yaitu Dedi, Stevie dan Andra "Ramadhan" Junaidi. Grup musik ini dibentuk pada tahun 2007. Lagu utamanya adalah Musnah dan Album perdananya ialah Andra & The Backbone yang dirilis pada tahun 2007.

Salah satu anggotanya, Andra "Ramadhan" Junaidi yang juga seorang pendiri dari grup band Indonesia yang terkenal yaitu Dewa 19.

Ditahun 2006 Andra & Stevie menemukan seorang yang bernama Dedy Lisan yang menurut mereka cukup cocok membawakan lagu2 ciptaan Andra. Setelah mereka membuat demo dan menyerahkan ke label rekaman, dengan jalan yang bisa dibilang cukup mulus akhirnya mereka berhasil menelorkan album pertama mereka Andra & The Backbone dan mengusung nama yang sama untuk nama band mereka. Akhirnya berhasil juga perjuangan seorang Andra mempunyai Album yang sudah lama di nanti - nantikan oleh banyak penggermarnya. Dengan keluarnya Album tersebut bukan berarti Andra tidak setia lagi dengan band terdahulunya Dewa19, justru hal ini yang tetap mempererat hubungannya dengan Dhani dan Dewa19 itu sendiri. Selain dapat restu dan persetujuan dari Dhani juga karena Dewa19 tetap merupakan prioritas utama Andra dan Backbone sebagai selingan dan mainan barunya.
