What is the Shumate Razor Company?

This razor is at least 80 years old.  And let me tell you – it is a fantastic shaver.  Lots of websites will sell you razors but will tell you they are not sure if they are “shave ready.”  Well this one is.  Tested on FACIAL HAIR.  Understand something – when people pluck one of their own hairs to demonstrate sharpness, it means nothing.  It means even less when they say they have tested it on the hair on their arms.  Facial hair is coarse and tough (steel wire in some cases), and I have never seen a beard as soft as arm hair.

1885- Joseph Shumate becomes partner, company named Teagarden & Shumate.

1900 (approx.)- Firm first deals in cutlery, company renamed Shumate Razor Company.

1904-1906- Company relocates to St. Louis, Missouri.

The rules of the video contest are simple.  Make a 30 second video showing your admiration or hate for Bob Sapp and why you should be his cornerman.  This is my entry:

Brent and I agreed the only place to settle the score was in front of a real arcade machine.  We did play on the Wii a few times but Brent pointed out that there are only three usable buttons on the Wii controller so it wasn’t really fair (FYI – I smoked Brent on the Wii).  A friend of ours has an arcade cabinet with SF2 on it, so we decided to duke it out for bragging rights.  I don’t know if Brent was prepared for what I dished out but I knew it was a long time coming.  Check out the video:

However, it made me think that there must have been a time when it was acceptable for a man to ride on the back of another man’s motorcycle.  A time when homophobia and insecurity were not as prevalent as they are today.  Think about the movie Easy Rider, for example.  No one questioned Peter Fonda or Jack Nicholson’s manhood when they got on Captain America’s chopper and headed to Mardi Gras.  It looks cool, even today.

If you’ve ever been in another country, you’ll see that men regularly hitch rides on the back of bikes, with no doubts or insecurities whatsoever.

So what happened?  When did this country shift from 2 guys on a bike being cool to 2 guys on a bike being downright unacceptable?  I can’t really say with any certainty that there was a particular moment or movie that defined the lone biker image but I do know any man considering hopping on a bike with another man will be pelted with insults.

So think twice when you chuckle at two guys cruising down the highway on a motorcycle.  I certainly don’t laugh at when I see that anymore.  In fact, I’d say it takes a REAL man to ride on the back of a bike because that’s a guy who gets on the road despite all the ridicule.  Yes, a REAL man is able to get on the back of a bike. I should know because I actually went ahead and did it:

At one point, my Smurf village was respectable.  Several high profile Smurfs visited and patronized my Smurf establishments.  Papa Smurf himself would come to visit and ask for help with his village.  I suspect he was just keeping a close eye on my village to make sure it did not get too big and overpower his town.  So that’s what I did for a good portion of last year.  Then one day as I was stocking up a Smurf cottage, it hit me.

I instantly halted all construction on existing Smurf projects and stopped logging on.  It’s been months since I’ve used the app and I’m curious as to what has become of my once vibrant Smurf town.  If a user logs off and doesn’t maintain their town, it will become overrun by weeds and eventually Smurfs will leave.  I’d like to think that my town went down in a glorious blaze.  Once they realized that I was gone, the panic set in and the mood shifted with the cheerful Smurf music fading out and Wagner’s “Ride of the Valkyrie” fading in.  With no food, the Smurfs began to riot.  They looted the buildings and set them on fire.  Papa Smurf, who came to ask for supplies, was unfortunately caught in the crossfire.  The Smurfs, looking for someone to blame,  grabbed Papa Smurf and hung him in the town square.  Smurfette probably turned to prostitution and moved into the bushes Smurfing-off vagabond Smurfs in exchange for small heaps of gold dust.

When the last of the fires burned out and the dust settled, the only remaining Smurf left was Baby Smurf.  Covered in soot and missing his legs, he crawled out of the ashes and looked around at the destruction.  Not knowing what else to say he yelled,

“Why Rob? Why?”

Which is exactly the vision that I have in my head that is keeping me from using the app again.  I’m glad I stopped using the app because it was a colossal time waster.  If it takes Smurf guilt to help me be more productive, than so be it.  It will be my Smurf cross to bear (which I know is not a very big cross but I mean it symbolically).

The focus of this week’s show is music from racing games.  As a teenager, I only played one game – ROAD RASH.  I frequently try to crow bar music from this game into our show (much to the dismay of my co-host Brent).  However, I cannot ignore the immense amount of affection I have for this game and its music.  The premise of the game is so simple – ride to the finish line and kick as much ass as you can long the way.  I like to think that’s how I am living my life.

I thought ROAD RASH would have been a great soundtrack for my wedding but my bride quickly shot that idea down.  I still have not given up hope that one day I will use music from this game as a soundtrack to a momentous occasion.  I think the BGM from Pacific Coast Highway would make great eulogy music.

I wish I could see the footage today.  At least I do have proof I was on the show.  The above screenshot is from the website when the show was in rotation.  I don’t know what good this credit will ever do me, though.  What do I tell people?  “Excuse me, I don’t believe we’ve met, my name is Rob and I’m a hot guy.  It says so on IMDB.”  I suppose I could use it as leverage if I am ever unhappy with a meal at a restaurant.  “I don’t mean to complain but I don’t think the food was very good tonight.  Can you let the chef know that there is a hot guy who cooks who is unhappy with his meal?”  Or perhaps I can parlay it into a food career although I only have one or two dishes I prepare well.

Since that show I’ve grown a bit older and I’ve become a little wiser but I’ll be damned if I’m not as hot.  You can take a man out of the hot but you can’t take the hot out of a man.  Or something like that.

Apparently, they did not get the joke and/or think I am some kind of weirdo.

The one advantage I had over the rest of the field was that I used to box and wrestle as a teenager which means  I know how to cut weight.  The 1st time I entered, I lost 23 pounds over the course of 8 weeks.  It wasn’t that hard once the initial discomfort set in.  I ended up winning a couple hundred dollars and simultaneously ruffling a few feathers amongst coworkers.  They felt I really didn’t need to lose the weight and took advantage of the competition.  It probably didn’t help that I sent a company wide email thanking everyone for the money with a picture of me holding the prize money and my victory meal.

The company held another competition the following year and I decided to enter again.  Lots of people dropped out at the start but there was still several hundred dollars at stake.  I ended up losing 17 lbs this time and yes, I did send another company wide email thanking them for the money.  Probably not the classiest thing to do. But these photos still make me smile every time when I think of those days.

I can’t believe the amount of crying online about how this will affect the image of MMA – simpy because some serious injuries (maybe death) are rumored.  I guarantee you half the fairies that have complained about this game, own GTA or some other type of game where you can blow THE MAN away and/or get head from a crack whore.  If anyone really believes this will negatively influence the sport, then I hope they aren’t disappointed when Santa doesn’t make a stop @ their apartment in December.

Reality is going to kick their ass.

As for this game, I can only hope for some amusing bone breaking or fatality action.  After all, IT’S A GAME!!! That’s the point.  Remember Mortal Kombat & Street Fighter 2?  The new UFC game is a heaping pile of shit.  I don’t want to see what it would be like if Terry Etim & Jim Miller rolled around in “virtual” guard.  If winning a UFC title in a video game is the culmination of your year, then you should be more concerned with your image. THE NEW UFC GAME IS BORING.

I don’t want realism which is why I’m playing a game in the first place.

For those concerned with realism- take a BJJ class. Take a boxing class and see how real that is compared to mashing buttons.  Sure the graphics for this game look like shit but who cares.  At least they are thinking out of the box.  THQ & EA sports could learn a thing or two from 505.  If I could rip Brock’s head off and get a lap dance from Arianny while getting interviewed by Rogan in a barn, then I’d be first in line @ Best Buy.

EDDY BENGTSSON

In this 2010 match Eddy “The Possum” Bengtsson delivers a solid performance, dropping like a sack of PENAS after getting a whiff of Aleksander’s glove.  He gets bonus points for covering his face after the collapse as we can only imagine the GOVNO-eating grin on his face after taking the dive.  And yes, that is a boxer tattooed on his arm.

RIC FLAIR

The Nature Boy shows us how it’s done after taking a right hand from Shawn Michaels.  A truly masterful display, Flair spits out what appears to be a tooth before catching major airtime on his way to the canvas.  Notice that he does not cover his face like Bengtsson did and he actually lands face first.  This is classic, inimitable  Flair.

VERDICT: Flair gets the unanimous nod from all of our judges.  Although some may argue that Bengtsson had the harder task of selling the KO because the punch didn’t land, our judges were captivated by Flair’s Oscar-worthy dive.  It’s a shame Bengtsson is now retired as he could have  really made his mark in the Pro Wrestling vs. MMA world by simply watching archived Monday Night Raw tapes.

I always feel like I’m witnessing a crime when I see Lindland fight – wait didn’t I just write that?  The Law steps up and enters the Absolut division @ ADCC 2003.  Unfortunately, Werdum makes quick work of him in just under 3 minutes – securing an armbar on his left arm.  I wonder if Jacare & Werdum crossed paths after the tournament?

Jacare: Hey Werdum, didn’t you fight Lindland?

Werdum: Sure did.  Armbarred him.

Jacare: Me too!  Which arm?

Werdum: Almost snapped that left one.

Jacare: Word?  I got the right one.

Werdum: I was looking for the left one too! Oh well, a submission is a submission right?

MURILO BUSTAMANTE

Everyone remembers Big John’s screwjob of Murilo Bustamante @ UFC 37.  For reasons to this day unknown, Big John pulled Bustamante off of Lindland while Murilo had an armbar locked in.  We can only assume that McCarthy took pity on the Law and didn’t want his bread stick of an arm snapped on PPV.  Lindland clearly taps 3 times although he claimed he never did (somewhere Ric Flair was smiling).

BARRY HOROWITZ

In this classic WWF match, we have Barry Horowitz clearly submitting Sam Houston via Boston Crab.  Houston taps no less than 47 times while being stretched out and was clearly on his way to passing out when Horowitz, saint that he is, let go of the lock to celebrate.  The ref must have been hypnotized by Houston’s mullet because he reversed the call and allowed the match to continue.  The only thing more offensive than the ref’s bogus call are the red swedish fish on his feet.

VERDICT: Horowitz was clearly swindled worse than Bustamante.  I mean, granted the ref is a dinosaur (probably robbed Heracles of a victory or two) but no one’s peripheral vision is that bad.  Houston smacked Horowitz’s ass so hard, he practically slapped the ref in the face.  To make matters worse, Houston landed a Bulldog and pinned poor Barry costing him the match.  At least Murilo was able to bounce back and eventually beat Lindland later in the match.  Horowitz walked away with nothing except the back he patted himself in with.

TED DIBIASE

Ted gets maximum height with his flying punch – at least 4 ft. of height and 2 seconds of hang time.  The Million Dollar Man also gets credit for landing this punch bare knuckled.  However, his opponent is clearly NOT KO’d after the punch.

DAN HENDERSON

Hendo gave Bisping a good ol’ MADE IN THE USA elbow drop and scores major points by KO-ing the redcoat on his feet and then following up with that vicious elbow that definitely had him seeing Old Glory’s stars. We must take into account that he does not acheive DiBiase’s height and he IS wearing padded gloves.

VERDICT: Hendo walks away with judge’s decision on this one.  The sheer force behind his flying elbow smash really wow’d the judges and the fact that Bisping is left motionless following the violent display, was enough to convince them to give Dan the nod.

That being said, I would like to commend Koscheck on his stellar acting chops. Most people rushed to the Internet forums to bash Kos during the Phantom Knee incident during the fight. I, however, immediately recognized an amazing performance being put on by master thespian Koscheck. People study for years and spend thousands trying to achieve the level of acting JK effortlessly achieved on Sat. night. Mickey Rourke himself couldn’t have done better and he probably would like to work with Josh after the GSP bout.

So from one thespian to another let me say congratulations on a gripping performance. Your objectives were clear and evident while your emotions were as raw as they come. When the greats are announced, be proud that your performance has carved out a name among them – Pacino, Brando, Koscheck. Without further ado, this UFC’s Koscar for best performance by a male goes to….JOSH KOSCHECK!

Thomas arrived first and began working out and answering general questions. He made it to known that he definitely did NOT get knocked out at the press conference and that he is ready, if Mayorga can make weight.

Mayorga showed up in the middle of Din’s workout and stared at him in disgust. Then he circled Din, scoffed and went into the dressing room to change. When he came out, announcements were made and a peculiar thing happened. Din and Mayorga saw each other, Mayorga pointed at Din and then they bro hugged.

Considering all the smack talk and epithets tossed around in the past weeks, it was refreshing to see them both put differences aside for a moment. They both worked out and eventually posed in the middle of the boxing ring with Mayorga saying “El tiene miedo en los ojos” which means “He has fear in his eyes.” Din countered with “Yo quiero cerveza” which means “I want beer.”

They finished the in ring appearance with imitations of each other which everyone thought was great. Overall it was a great event that went smoothly – a big win for Shine Fight Promotions. Order the PPV as this is truly a one of a kind event between two showmen.

I heard about the event on MMAJunkie Radio this morning and I didn’t have anything MMA related to take for an autograph, so I took my Rocky mug which both fighters were more than happy to sign.

Will this ever be released on DVD?  This was a great card featuring LaVerne Clark, Minowaman (yes in the UFC!), Kikuta, Murilo Bustamante and of course a great main event – Ortiz vs. Wanderlei.

A game Tito Ortiz and Wanderlei Silva grind it out for 25 minutes.  Couple of things come to mind while watching this:

* MMA fighters and wrestling shoes looks bizarre now that we’re in 2010
* Ahhh, remember the days a porn company was considered an elite sponsor?
* Tito greatly outsizes Wandy (goddam Silva, eat a sandwich)
* Tito floors Wandy in Round 2! (I think he’s out @ 1:56)
* Tito takes Wandy down, almost @ will
* Tito actually turns and runs from Silva @ 3:27 (wayyyyy before Kalib Starnes or UFC112 Anderson)
and most importantly
* ELEVATOR MUSIC BETWEEN ROUNDS 2 & 3. WTF??????

This was PRIDE FC’s final event before it’s eventual sale.  Pour one for the homies as you relive the greatness that was Dream Stage Entertainment’s crown jewel.  The final card included Arona, Monson, Fujita, Frye and Butterbean among others.

Before he was getting submitted by mullet-ed pro wrestlers, Sokoudjou showed so much promise.

Shinya Aoki weathers the storm in his 4th PRIDE appearance to armbar Lo-A-Njoe.

But as an athlete, I’m still a fan, regardless of what happens in this fight. He’s excellent. I’m happy when he wins and I support him. I confess that when he faced Thales Leites, I didn’t root for him, but in a lot of other fights of his I did. I have no problem with him whatsoever. I’m cool about it.” – Demian Maia

The Caged360 analysis team immediately dissected Maia’s verbal assault and we have come to the conclusion that Maia has sent a lingual SCUD missile that has, without a doubt, sent the Killer Bee gym reeling. Let’s break it down:

I’ve always been a fan of him as a fighter. I’m no fan of him as a person.

Maia takes the gloves off early and pounds the middleweight champ with a runaway meteor-esque statement. He slyly butters up the champ by telling him he IS a fan, but without warning, he turns the middleweight king’s world upside down by targeting his character. It is important to note that all interviews and comments up to this point have been cordial and respectful. Maia’s about face bludgening is akin to the great heel turn Triple H took on his DX mates @ Wrestlemania XV. Jerry Lawler’s screaming (:13 – :41 of the video) was a fitting soundtrack as my eyes witnessed Demian’s barrage.

“What the hell is going on?!!!” indeed.

I’m not a fan of his on a personal level, like I am of Minotauro, Cigano and Wanderlei. But as an athlete, I’m still a fan, regardless of what happens in this fight.

Ouch. Maia then digs into his arsenal and triple teams Anderson with Minotauro, Cigano & Wanderlei. To Demian’s credit, it’s a sound strategy as the only way to take out arguably the most gifted athlete to ever step into the cage, is to triple team him. Demian then tries to brush it off and says he’s still a fan regardless of what happens in this fight…if it even happens. One person can only take so much verbal abuse.

I confess that when he faced Thales Leites, I didn’t root for him, but in a lot of other fights of his I did.

This is the final nail in the coffin as Maia blatantly admits his allegiances. Although we do not have any official statement, once can safely assume that the Spider was under the impression that he had Maia’s support for the Leites fight. With this shocking revelation, we can only imagine the humiliation Silva must have felt upon hearing that although Maia rooted for him in other fights, he rooted against him for what was Silva’s toughest bout to date.

Demian Maia is currently listed at +550 on Sportsbook.com but after this aggressive display of psychological warfare, odds makers should seriously reconsider who they’re counting out.
