From Mobile Suit Gundam F91, the Crossbone Vanguard’s main mass-produced mobile suit, the Den’an-Zon, joins the RE/100 lineup. As a close-combat focused unit built for high mobility, it represents a major shift in mobile suit design during the late Universal Century.

Developed by the Crossbone Vanguard, the Den’an-Zon was designed with combat inside space colonies in mind. Its lightweight construction and high performance allowed it to outclass many Earth Federation mass-production units of its era, while its weaponry was tailored to reduce collateral damage without sacrificing effectiveness.

The kit recreates the Den’an-Zon’s distinctive proportions using newly sculpted parts, from its spiked shoulder armor to its large, protruding backpack. The shoulder binders feature movable joints that can fold inward, improving arm range of motion, while interchangeable head parts allow different sensor configurations to be displayed.

Its primary weapon, the Shot Lancer, reflects the machine’s close-range combat philosophy. The handle can be extended, and the tip can be detached to recreate its firing state. The included beam shield effect parts allow for a variety of defensive poses, while beam sabers can be stored under the rear skirt for added display accuracy. The beam shield itself, a relatively new technology at the time, provides strong protection as long as power is maintained, though its emitter remains a critical weak point.

Thanks to a flexible joint structure that combines multiple articulation points, the Den’an-Zon is capable of a wide range of motion. The torso, waist, and neck all contribute to dynamic posing, while the backpack includes movable sensors and thrusters. These features make it possible to recreate the iconic horizontal flight pose seen in the film, with the Shot Lancer raised in mid-attack.

As the foundation for later Crossbone Vanguard units, including the Den’an-Gei and Berga series, the Den’an-Zon stands as one of the defining mass-produced mobile suits of its time. Its arrival in RE/100 form brings that legacy into a larger scale with a focus on presence, articulation, and display.

The next evolution in Real Grade has been officially revealed. Gundam Exia Repair IV appears following its debut at the Gundam 00 Festival 10 “Re:vision”. This unit comes from the post movie timeline of Mobile Suit Gundam 00 and its sequel Mobile Suit Gundam 00 the Movie: A Wakening of the Trailblazer. It now arrives as a full RG model kit.

Piloted by Graham Aker after joining Celestial Being under Setsuna F. Seiei, the Exia Repair IV continues the legacy of Exia.

Developed after the ELS conflict, the unit combines experimental systems with an older frame. Its performance reaches a level comparable to fourth generation Gundams.

This RG kit brings Repair IV to life with updated Gunpla engineering.

The world of Mobile Suit Gundam is about to take a small but meaningful step into reality. A Japanese startup is moving forward with an ambitious plan to send a Haro-inspired robot into space, blending classic anime design with real-world aerospace experimentation.

A Real Haro, Built for Zero Gravity

Leading the initiative is Space Entry Co., a company based in Tsukuba near Tokyo. Their goal is to launch a spherical robot modeled after Haro by next spring, bringing one of Gundam’s most recognizable companions into an actual space environment.

The design isn’t just inspired by the original. It comes directly from Kunio Okawara, the mechanical designer behind Haro and many of the franchise’s iconic mobile suits. That connection alone gives the project a strong sense of authenticity, bridging decades of Gundam history with modern engineering.

Once deployed, the robot will operate inside the Japanese experiment module Kibo aboard the International Space Station (ISS). This isn’t just for show. The mission focuses on testing how a compact robot can function autonomously in microgravity.

At 21 centimeters in diameter and constructed from aluminum, the Haro unit is engineered to move freely in all directions using a propeller-based system. Its signature cheek panels double as propulsion outlets, allowing it to navigate the station’s interior.

Sensors built into the robot will help it detect obstacles and halt movement when needed, while onboard cameras and microphones enable interaction with astronauts. Its LED “eyes” can blink to communicate simple responses, echoing the expressive charm Haro is known for.

Strong Early Support from Fans and Backers

Interest in the project has already translated into real momentum. A crowdfunding campaign launched on April 14 quickly hit its initial target of 3 million yen in just three days, backed by around 200 supporters.

With a Haro-inspired robot now being prepared for a real mission aboard the International Space Station, it’s easy to see why the project feels like a first for Gundam.

But in reality, the groundwork has already been there.

Back in 2017, the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency introduced the Int-Ball, a spherical robotic camera designed to float freely inside the station. Controlled from the ground, it captures images and video so astronauts can focus on more critical tasks.

Functionally, it’s very different from Haro. But visually and conceptually, the overlap is hard to ignore. A compact sphere navigating microgravity, assisting humans, and operating with a level of autonomy. It’s the kind of idea Gundam has been playing with for decades.

The connection between Gundam and real-world space exploration became even more direct in 2019.

As part of the franchise’s 40th anniversary and in support of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, JAXA worked with the University of Tokyo to send Gundam into orbit. The project used specially engineered Gunpla models of the RX-78-2 Gundam and Char’s Zaku II, designed to withstand the harsh environment of space.

Rather than launching full-scale mobile suits, the models were placed inside a compact microsatellite. Once in orbit, the satellite would open, creating the illusion of the mobile suits floating in space as it circled Earth at incredible speed.

Why This Matters Now

Seen in that context, the upcoming Haro mission doesn’t come out of nowhere. It feels like the next step in a long-running relationship between Gundam and space technology.

From Int-Ball’s real-world functionality to Gundam models orbiting Earth, the franchise has already crossed into reality more than once. Now, with a Haro designed by Kunio Okawara aiming to operate inside the ISS, that connection is becoming more direct and more intentional.

For Yoshiyuki Tomino, war was never meant to be something glorified in Mobile Suit Gundam. It’s a theme that has always sat at the core of his work, shaped by perspectives he picked up early in life rather than firsthand experience.

Although he was too young to truly remember World War II, Tomino has shared that his understanding of war came from people around him, including those who lived through the atomic bombings of Hiroshima atomic bombing and Nagasaki atomic bombing. Those real accounts left a lasting impression, and that perspective eventually made its way into Gundam.

Even now, that message doesn’t always land the way it was intended. Tomino pointed out that some fans interpret Gundam in a way that leans toward supporting war, missing what the series has consistently tried to show.

His comments come from a recent Animage column published by Tokuma Shoten, where he also spoke on ongoing conflicts today. Looking at the Russo-Ukrainian War, he criticized how war is framed and discussed, especially when responsibility is avoided or softened through language.
