Mount Rinjani offers three main climbing routes—Sembalun, Senaru, and Torean—each providing unique experiences, with Sembalun being the most popular for summit attempts.

1. Sembalun Route (Summit Route)

Apart from these four places, there are other destinations that are also worth visiting because they have unique natural phenomena, namely Gili Pasir. Gili Pasir is a sand island in the middle of the sea that only appears when the water is low. From Tanjung Luar Harbor we can take a boat which takes about 20 minutes. This sand island is not large, so people who are lucky enough to land there can experience the sensation of having a private island in one day. The stretch of fine white sand combined with clear turquoise water makes for an unforgettable marine tourism or photo-taking experience. Even though the water is clear, it begs you to jump in, but tourists are not advised to swim around it, because there are lots of sea urchins and starfish scattered around.

Gili Pasir is a small island that appears close to Lombok Sea

Remember, don’t move starfish out of the water just to use them as photo props, because this behavior is very dangerous for their survival. Tourists are also advised to wear comfortable clothing and footwear as well as heat protection. Don’t forget to store the electronic items you bring to avoid splashes of sea water. Don’t forget to throw away rubbish in the right place because this island still lacks tourist facilities and services. The appearance of Gili Pasir reportedly only lasts for four to five hours in the dry season. Around Gili Pasir there are also several uninhabited Gili (small islands), such as Gili Kere, Gili Kambing, Gili Sunut, and Gili Petelu. There is only one inhabited Gili, namely Gili Maringkik.

Most of Torean people open corn fields, cultivate cocoa, and raise livestock, especially cows. The Torean hiking trail is not as popular as Senaru and Sembalun, two routes that climbers have always taken to reach the summit of Rinjani. Local people use this route as the entrance to Mount Rinjani National Park. Usually they take the Torean route for treatment by soaking in the natural hot springs found at several points along this route. Those who want to fish in Segara Anak Lake also pass through Torean.

The Torean Trail offers a variety of natural panoramas. Along the path, which is flanked by the ridge walls of Mount Rinjani and Sangkareang, you can see dense forests, cliffs, valleys, rivers, waterfalls, and natural hot springs, including those flowing in caves.

Day 1: Pick you up your hotel lobby Senggigi

Early morning at 05.30 am drive to Torean village ( it take around 3 hrs, fetch the porter, 9.30 am we start trek in the rain forest and we walking around the edge of the volley, up and down hill. Around 5 o’clock we will arrive on the lake, lunch on the route. overnight on the lake.

Day 2: Lake Segara Anak – First rim ( Sembalun crater )

This mountain is located on the east side of the Mount Rinjani caldera, and is in the middle of Segara Anak. The climb to Segara Anak can be started from Senaru Village or Sembalun Lawang Village. These two paths are the path most often used to get to Segara Anak.

Various Interesting Activities in Segara Anak Lake

There are some interesting activities that we can do at Lake Segara Anak. For example, fishing activities. In Segara Anak Lake is like heaven at a height, there are various types of fish there, such as tilapia fish, and gold fish. These fish are widely found in Lake Segara Anak because of the nursery process carried out by the local government in 1985. Good water circulation in Lake Segara Anak is very supportive for breeding these fish. The result can now be enjoyed by tourists.

If you want to enjoy the natural atmosphere of Segara Anak lake longer, you can camp there. Around Segara Anak lake there are indeed a number of airy points that can be used to set up tents. Near Segara Anak lake, there are several hot springs. Many climbers stop by, both for dipping their legs and soaking to relax tired muscles.

Segara Anak is a crater lake contained within Mount Rinjani on the island of Lombok in Indonesia. The name Segara Anak means child of the sea given to the blue color of the lake reminiscent of the sea. The lake is heated, so its temperature is 20-22 °C, about 5-7°C above the expected temperature for a lake in that altitude. At the west end of the lake is the volcanic cone Gunung Barujari, giving to the lake a crescent shape.

Mount Rinjani or Gunung Rinjani is an active volcano in Indonesia on the island of Lombok. Administratively the mountain is in the Regency of North Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (Indonesian: Nusa Tenggara Barat, NTB). It rises to 3,726 metres (12,224 ft), making it the second highest volcano in Indonesia.On the top of the volcano is a 6-by-8.5-kilometre (3.7 by 5.3 mi) caldera, which is filled partially by the crater lake known as Segara Anak or Anak Laut (Child of the Sea) due to blue color of water lake as Laut (Sea). This lake is approximately 2,000 metres (6,600 ft) above sea level and estimated to be about 200 metres (660 ft) deep the caldera also contains hot springs. Sasak tribe and Hindu people assume the lake and the mount are sacred and some religion activities are occasionally done in the two areas. A massive eruption of Rinjani in 1257 CE may have triggered an episode of global cooling and failed harvests.

Getting to Lombok by public ferry

The Islands; Bali and Lombok separated by Lombok Strait.
If you travel on a budget, public ferry is the alternative mode of transportation to reach Lombok. It departs from Padang Bai (East Bali) to Lembar (West Lombok). Ferry service departing every hour, operating 24 hours.

Public ferry - Bali To Lombok

Public ferries' provide services for both passengers and vehicles.

The trip normally takes four hours (but it can be considerably longer in poor weather). This service runs 24 hours a day. It should be understood that this ferry has a poor safety record.

Disembark from Padangbai or arriving at Lembar Harbor do not let a local porter take your bags/luggage unless you have negotiated absolutely what you will pay before he puts his hands on your bags.

Best to avoid the service completely if possible as it can be fraught with complications over prices.

While they are cheap, it can cost quite a bit extra to get to Padangbai so its worth comparing all alternatives.

Lembar in the south west of the island is Lombok's main port and handles small freighters, fishing boats and the combination vehicle and passenger ferries heading westward to Bali.

Padang Bai (also Padangbai and Padang Bay) is a small port town in East Bali, the port for ferry terminal from/to Lombok. Situated in Northeast of Gianyar 29 km, from Kuta 62 km, and from Denpasar 56 km. Padangbai can be reached from Sanur in more and less 1 hour.

Crossing By Public ferry (Bali-Lombok)

Tips: If you are leaving from Lombok, chances are high that someone will approach you and offer the ticket to Bali for same or cheaper than going the current rate of Rp 36,000 (March 2011). They'll also try to move you past official ticket offices (at the entrance gates of the harbor). It may be cheaper, however, you won't get an official ticket, or get only second part of it (the first one normally goes to the security on the pier). So, you may end up without a valid ticket and, if some security check happens, may have to pay again and suffer a lot of confusion. Just buy the ticket at the official ticket booth.

Stay safe

The ferries used on the run between Lombok and Bali do not conform to many Internationally recognized safety and operational standards. It is prudent to keep alert and be aware of your position and situation whilst on board and make yourself aware of the positioning of life preserving equipment. If inside the main cabin or below decks try to ensure you orient yourself to the layout of the ships decks and emergency exits especially if traveling at night. You should maintain a clear head and use caution at all times when embarking and disembarking as the decks and ramps can be slippery and the passengers can at times behave in a chaotic manner especially when disembarking.

Be aware that heavy vehicles as well as cars and motorbikes are moving onto and off the ships at the dock and will using the same loading ramp as the passengers. Be careful to keep track of your bags and watch out for pick pockets if in a crowd waiting to board or disembark.

Before climbing to the summit Mount Rinjani the height of 3.726 m asl, you should start climbing at 3 am from your tent Crater Plawangan Sembalun altitude of 2639 meters, so you can find sunrise light at 6 am

Mount Rinjani Peak 3726 meter above sea level or 12,224ft

Mount Rinjani with the highest point of 3,726 m above sea level or 12,224ft, dominates most of the scenery of the northern part of Lombok Island. To the west of the Rinjani cone there is a caldera with an area of approximately 3,500 m × 4,800 m, extending east and west.

On the eastern side of the caldera there is Mount Baru (or Mount Barujari) which has a crater measuring 170m × 200 m with an altitude of 2,296 - 2376 masl. This small mountain last erupted on 25 October 2015 and 3 November 2015, after previously recorded erupting in May 2009 and in 2004. If the 2004 eruption did not cause any casualties, the 2009 eruption had indirectly killed 31 people, due to flooding on Tanggek river due to lava pressure to Segara Anak. Previously, Mount Barujari had recorded erupting in 1944 (as well as its formation), 1966, and 1994.
