Taal was released in 1999 and was produced and directed by the showman Subhash Ghai. The movie stars Anil Kapoor, Akshay Khanna and Aishwarya Rai in the lead roles. A.R. Rahman composed the music for this movie which happens to be the highlight of the movie. Some considered the music among the best ever composed for Indian Cinema. Synopsis : Taal is the story of a young girl (Aishwarya Rai) who lives in a small village Chamba with her family who are folk singers. A young and handsome billionaire (Akshaye Khanna), who comes to visit this place falls in love with her and returns to Bombay after promising to marry her. The father and the daughter later go to Bombay to meet the boy and discuss about the marriage, but they are humiliated by his family members. They come across an owner of a music and entertainment company (Anil Kapoor) who has a strong affinity for the folk singer's sngs and is enthralled by the beauty of the singer's daughter. He promises to make Aishwarya a leading singer performer. As time passes by, Anil Kapoor falls in love with Aishwarya and they both decide to get married after a concert, but the girl realises that her heart yearns for her first love, Akshaye Khanna.

Abhimaan (1973) starring Amitabh Bachchan, his real-life wife, Jaya Bachchan, Asrani and Bindu was directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee. The movie is perhaps best remembered for its songs, composed and arranged by the late S D Burman, written by Majrooh Sultanpuri, and sung by famous playback singers Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar, and Mohammed Rafi. Songs like "Meet Na Mila Re Mann Ka ", " Teri Bindiya Re ", " Tere Mere Milan Ki Yeh Raina ", " Piya Bina Piya Bina " are still classics today.

The movie takes inspiration from A Star Is Born (1954). When it was released, audiences found similarities between real-life couple Amitabh and Jaya and the couple they portrayed on-screen—as Jaya's career was stronger than Amitabh's at the time. She won the Filmfare Best Actress Award for Abhimaan.

Synopsis: Subir (Amitabh Bachchan) is a professional singer whose career is soaring. He does not plan to marry—until he meets Uma (Jaya Bhaduri), a sweet village girl who also sings. Subir falls in love with Uma and marries her. He returns to Mumbai with his new bride. Subir continues as a singer and also fosters Uma's singing career. His career falters, however, just as Uma's singing career begins to thrive. Eventually, she becomes more famous than her husband, sparking jealousy from Subir. His pride and jealousy tear the marriage apart. The question becomes whether Subir can overcome his jealousy.

The movie reaches a very sensitive situation when the couple separates and Uma has a miscarriage. In what is considered a masterpiece of direction by Mukherjee and scoring by Burman, the couple comes together again in an emotional reunion and they sing together.

Love Story (1981) was produced and directed by Rajendra Kumar. The film also stars Rajendra Kumar alongside his son Kumar Gaurav and Vijeta Pandit both making their film debuts. Vidya Sinha, Amjad Khan, Danny Denzongpa and Aruna Irani also appear in supporting roles. The music was composed by R. D. Burman with lyrics by Anand Bakshi. The film became a "blockbuster" at the box office. This movie made Kumar Gaurav a 'Star' overnight. Amit Kumar won the Filmfare Best Male Playback Award ( for the song "Yaad Aa Rahi Hai" ) over another nominee, his father Kishore Kumar.

Guide (released in 1965) is a hit bollywood cinema starring Dev Anand and Waheeda Rehman. It was directed by Vijay Anand, who also contributed with the screenplay. The movie is based on the critically acclaimed novel by R. K. Narayan, and is widely considered to be one of the masterpieces of the Indian film industry. The music for this film was composed by Sachin Dev Burman and the songs were sung by Lata Mangeshkar, Mohammed Rafi, Kishore Kumar and Sachin Dev Burman. Songs like " Aaj Phir Jeene Ki Tamanna "," Din Dhal Jaaye "," Piya Tose Naina Laage Re "," Tere Mere Sapne " & " Wahan Kaun Hai Tera " are considered to be classics.

Synopsis : The movies starts with Dev Anand coming out of a jail, and then the story runs in flashback. Dev Anand stars as Raju, a freelance guide, who earns his living by taking visitors to historic sites. One day a wealthy and aging archaeologist Marco comes to the city with his young wife Rosie (Waheeda Rehman). Marco wants to do some research on the caves outside the city and hires Raju as his guide. It doesn't take too long for Raju to realize that their marital life is on rocks. Raju develops a soft corner for Rosie, he comes to learn about Rosie's past and her love for dancing, which is something totally unacceptable to Marco. Marco gets busy with the caves and Raju takes Rosie out for a tour of the nearby sites. On returning back to Udaipur, Rosie discovers that Marco is having an affair with a native tribal girl. Raju induces Rosie to leave Marco and come with him, and she does exactly that.

After learning of Raju's affair with Rosie, his mother leaves him, his friend and driver also abuse him and severe all ties with him. He loses his business and the entire town develops animosity towards him. Undeterred by these setbacks, Raju helps Rosie embark on a singing and dancing career, and she achieves instant stardom. With money in hand Raju falls into bad habits, such as gambling and drinking. One day he is caught forging a check, is arrested and ends up spending a number of years in jail. On the day of his release his mother and Rosie come to pick him up but they are told that he was released six months ago because of his good behaviour.

Upon his release Raju wanders alone, a farmer (Bhola) finds him sitting alone in a temple and mistakes him for a saint. Bhola is having a problem with his sister, Raju uses his vocal skills and knowledge to convince the girl to act according to her brother's wish. Impressed by this Bhola spreads the news through village, and he is taken as a holy man in the village. The farmers begin to bring gifts for him and start consulting him with their problems. Initially Raju enjoys this newly endowed demigod status, as this provides him with food, shelter and all the basic necessities without working too hard. He makes the village temple his abode and starts acting like a real saint, he begins growing a beard and dressing accordingly, and is called Swami Raju. Slowly he learns of the problems that plague the life of his disciples, he actually starts taking interest in their lives. He acts as a teacher to the village kids, and makes efforts to make the life a better experience for his followers.

A famine hits the whole region and now the villagers begin fearing for worst, they ask their spiritual guru (Raju) to fast to bring rain. At first Raju opposes the idea, going as far as telling Bhola that he is just a human like all of them and even worse a convict. But even the confession was not enough for the villagers to give up on their belief. He reluctantely goes to fast, although he does not believe that there is any relation between a man's hunger and rain. With fast Raju undergoes a spiritual transformation, and as the duration of his fast increases, his fame starts spreading and people from all corners come to see him and take his blessings. In one of the most memorable scenes an American journalist from NBC asks him whether he truly believes that his fast would bring rain, he smiles and says "These people have faith in me, and I have faith in their faith". Upon hearing his fame Rosie pays him a visit, so does his mother and his friend. He now has everything he has lost a long time back, in the final scenes of movie his health is falling, and he thinks about the meaning of his life. On one hand there is Rosie, his Mother and a chance to get back to his past life, on the other hand is a cause, he eventually decides not to end his fast. In the final scene, when it starts raining and everyone rushes to outside leaving him behind, he hears the rainfall and collapses.

Disco Dancer is a 1982 Bollywood film directed by Babbar Subhash and starring Mithun Chakraborty. The film tells the rags-to-riches story of a young street performer. Today, the movie has become a cult classic and is especially known for its "I am a Disco Dancer" song.In 1988, Devo produced a song called "Disco Dancer" inspired by the "I am a Disco Dancer" song from this film. In 2007, the rapper M.I.A. re-recorded "Jimmy Jimmy Jimmy Aaja" as Jimmy for her album Kala. The music of this song was also used in the 2008 Adam Sandler movie You Don't Mess with the Zohan.

Synopsis: Anil (Mithun Chakraborty), a street performer and wedding singer, is scarred by the memory of the rich P.N. Oberoi (Om Shivpuri) beating his mother (Gita Siddharth) in an incident during his childhood. When David Brown, the manager (Om Puri) of current Indian disco champion Sam (Karan Razdan) is fed up and looks for some new talent, he happens across Anil who is dance-walking down a street. Rebranded as "Jimmy", the rising disco star must take the throne from Sam and win the heart of Rita (Kim), P.N. Oberoi's daughter. All seems to be going well until Oberoi hires men to connect Jimmy's electric guitar to 5,000 volts of electricity, causing Jimmy's mother to die in a tragic accident. With his legs broken by Oberoi's goons and guitar phobia from the incident with his mother, Jimmy must claim first place for Team India at the International Disco Dancing Competition amidst strong competition from Team Africa and Team Paris.

Anand is a classic starring Amitabh Bachchan and Rajesh Khanna was written and directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee. The movie was released in 1971 and the dialogues of this movie was written by Gulzar, who also happens to be the lyrics writer for the songs Maine tere liye, Na jiya jaye na and the poem Maut tu ek kavita hai , while Yogesh wrote for Kahin door jab din dhal jaaye and Zindagi kaisi hai paheli. Salil Chaudhary composed the music for this movie.The character of Anand was inspired by Raj Kapoor, who use to call Hrishikesh Mukherjee as "Babu Moshay". The film is dedicated to Raj Kapoor and the people of Bombay.

The film is about Anand Sehgal (Rajesh Khanna), a cancer patient who, despite knowing this fact, believes in living his life to the fullest. Contrasting Anand is Bhaskar Banarjee (Amitabh Bachchan), a sober doctor, upset with life and the dark reality of his nation. Bhaskar's tête-a-tête with Anand makes him notice the colours behind all the despair and complexity in one's life and teaches him a lesson. After spreading happiness everywhere around himself and changing the lives of many, Anand as destined, leaves them all, which inspires Bhaskar to write a book on his life.

The film is a narrative, as Bhaskar writes in his diary about his life before Anand, his first meeting, how his relation with him changes from a doctor-patient to a friend, and then to a friend for which he can do anything, and how a dying man leaves his thinking changed to such a great extent.

Dil Chahta Hai starring Aamir Khan , Akshay Khanna , Saif Ali Khan , Preity Zinta , Sonali Kulkarni and Dimple Kapadia was written and directed by Farhan Akhtar. The film is based on screenwriter, Farhan Akhtar's, diaries on his trips to Goa and his 1996 month-and-a-half long stay at New York, and a storyline narrated by a friend, which he used for Akash (Aamir Khan's character).

The movie tells the story of three friends graduating from college and transitioning into life as adults. Each individual has a different perspective of life and love in particular. Akash (Aamir Khan) does not believe in love and is of the opinion that one should never have a girlfriend for more than a period of two weeks. Sameer (Saif Ali Khan) is a genial, well-meaning, desperately romantic and confused guy. He is prone to romantic infatuations and believes that he has found true love whenever he gets attracted to a girl. Siddharth (Akshaye Khanna), or Sid, is an artist by profession and is the most serious of them all; dedicated to his work, he is not interested in trivial romances.

The film was critically acclaimed, winning that year's National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi. It was also a commercial success, though it performed better in the urban areas of the country compared to the rural areas, which was attributed by critics to the city-oriented lifestyle depicted in the movie in which all the characters are, without exception, from rich or at least upper-middle-class families.

The film's style extended to the music and its picturisation in the movie. One song sequence recapitulates, and to some extent, parodies Bollywood dance history. Other songs drop the usual dance accompaniment; one song depicts an argument between two protagonists through the song's lyrics, another establishes the character's state of mind through a moody photo collage, while yet another imagines the beautiful and idealised world of an artist in love through a song inside a painting. There is also an extended opera sequence, which was exclusively commissioned for the film.

Saagar was released in 1985 and starred Rishi Kapoor, Dimple Kapadia and Kamal Hassan in the lead roles. It was a comeback movie for Dimple Kapadia, who quit movies after she married Rajesh Khanna right after the success of ' Bobby ' and the same leading pair of that movie were casted again to create the same magic and fire at the box office by the director of the movie(Saagar), Ramesh Sippy. The movie has the same old formula of Indian Cinema, which is love triangle and won four Filmfare Awards including Filmfare Award - Best Actor & Actress to Kamal Hassan and Dimple Kapadia respectively. Kishore Kumar won the Best Male Playback Singer Award for the song ' Saagar Kinare ' and S M Anwar won the Best Cinematography Award.

R D Burman composed the music for the movie and was a huge hit. Songs like ' Saagar Jaisi Ankhonwali ', ' Saagar Kinare ', ' Sach Mere Yaar Hai ' and the sensous ' Jaane Do Na ' are still popular today.

Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ) was released on October 20,1995 and went on to become the longest (600 Weeks) running film in Indian Cinema. The moive was produced by Yash Chopra and was directed by his son, Aditya Chopra. The movie became a classic and was one of the biggest hits of all time. Jatin-lalit composed the music and the hit songs includes " Mehndi Laga Ke Rakhna ". " Mere Khwabon Mein Jo " and " Tujhe Dekha To Yeh Jaana Sanam " . It won 10 Filmfare Awards that year and started the trend of NRI's characters or backdrop in every major release.

Synopsis: Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge is a story about human relationships. Chaudhry Baldev Singh (Amrish Puri) is a London based immigrant. He, along with his wife Lajwanti (Farida Jalal) and two daughters Simran (Kajol) and Chutki (Pooja Ruparel) have been living in London for the past several years. A true Indian at heart, Chaudhry Baldev Singh is a man of great morals and has tried to imbibe the very same in his daughters. He has brought them up with the belief that they are strangers in this foreign land and are here purely for financial reasons. They will all return one day back to Punjab, back to his roots, his land, his culture, one that he so strongly believes in.

Simran like any other girl dreams of this perfect man and waits for him to walk into her life. Soon enough, she realises the mere futility of her dreams as her marriage has already been arranged to her father's best friend's son Kuljeet (Parmeet Sethi).

Raj Malhotra (Shah Rukh Khan), another London based immigrant is a regular rich spoilt brat brought up in the lap of luxury. He is a true playboy at heart. But he shares a beautiful relationship with his father Dharamvir Malhotra (Anupam Kher) where they are more like best friends.

Raj and Simran along with other friends meet on the Eurail. They go through an entire gamut of emotions. From initial hatred, to being acquaintances, to friendship and finally falling in love. They realise their true feelings for each other only when they part at the end of the trip. Raj is aware of Simran's pre-planned marriage and feels there is no hope. Simran confides in her mother about her feelings for Raj. She tells her that she can't see life without him. Chaudhry overhears the conversation and gets furious. He makes an impulsive decision to leave for Punjab overnight. Meanwhile Raj is motivated by none other than his father, who tells him that if he truly loves Simran, he has to go and get her.

The second half of the film takes us to Punjab, to Chaudhry's entire family. A family that consists of his mother (Achla Sachdev), his brother (Lalit Tiwari), his unmarried sister (Himani Shivpuri) and his best friend Ajit Singh (Satish Shah). In search of Simran, Raj lands up in Punjab. Does Raj manage to win over the entire family? Does he manage to win over Chaudhry Baldev Singh? Rangeela was A.R. Rahman first hindi movie with an original score and was released in 1995. It was directed by Ram Gopal Varma and starred Aamir Khan , Urmila Matondkar and Jackie Shroff. This movie happens to the biggest hit of Urmila till date and Asha Bhosle made a comeback by singing some brilliant compositions like " Rangeela Re " & " Tanha Tanha Yahan Pe Jeena ". Aamir Khan gave his one of his best performances by playing the character of 'Munna' in the movie. In my opinion he was the unanimous choice for that year's Best Actor Award In a Leading Role but lost it Shahrukh Khan for DDLJ, since then he avoided all the awards function except the National Awards.

Rangeela is a love triangle story of Munna (Aamir Khan), a happy go lucky guy,who does black marketing of movie tickets and Mili's neighbourhood friend. Mili (Urmila Matondkar) hails from a middle-class family,who dreams of making it big as an actress in bollywood. Mili later gets a break as an actress after she is spotted practicing on a beach by Raj Kamal (Jackie Shroff),an established actor who doesn't mingle with everyone around him after a personal tragedy(losing his wife in an accident). The story takes a twist when Munna like any layman believe the gossip between Mili and Raj Kamal. Whether Mili discover her true love in the end ? The movie was a hit primarily because of A.R.Rahman's music and an outstanding performance by Aamir Khan.

She prays that the handsome suitor and top cryptologist Rishi Kumar (Arvind Swamy), arriving in the village soon, accepts a proposal to get married to her sister. It soon emerges that Roja's sister is in love with another, and to everyone's surprise Rishi requests Roja's hand in marriage. Roja gets married to Rishi, and the couple move out of the village to live in the city. They both fall in love here, and settle down. Working for the Indian Government, Rishi is assigned a posting at an army communications center in Kashmir. Roja's world is shattered when Rishi is abducted by militant Kashmiri separatists who demand the release of their terrorist leader Wasim Khan from prison, held by Indian military forces. Roja pleads with politicians and the military for help, but she has little success.

Aashiqui is a romantic movie and was released in 1990. Rahul Roy and Anu Agarwal who debuted with this movie became overnight stars. The movie was produced by late Gulshan Kumar of T series and was directed by Mahesh Bhatt. The movie also made the careers of Deepak Tijori , Kumar Sanu , Anuradha Paudwal and Nadeem-Shravan. Ijaazat is an acclaimed Hindi movie directed by Gulzar was released in 1987. Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar is a 1992 Hindi sports drama film from the Indian Bollywood film industry, directed by Mansoor Khan (who earlier directed Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak). The film stars Aamir Khan, Pooja Bedi, Ayesha Jhulka, Asrani, Aditya Lakhia, Mamik, Sanam Oberoi, Deepak Tijori, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Kiran Zaveri, Anjan Srivastav, and Faisal Khan. The music was by Jatin Lalit. The film may have been loosely inspired by the 1979 Hollywood film Breaking Away.

Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander is an underdog story. The story revolves around Sanju (Aamir Khan), a young man from a lower middle class, family successfully beats Shekhar (Deepak Tijori), his arrogant and wealthier rival in an inter-school bicycling race which is the highlight of the small town they reside in. The song Pehla Nasha was the first song choreographed by Farah Khan. In the song 'Rooth Ke Humse Kabhi' when Ratan is lying in hospital, Sanju stays by his side and has flashbacks of his childhood. 'Little' Sanju is played by a very young Imran Khan who is Aamir Khan's real-life nephew and debuted in the film 'Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na' in 2008. This movie won Filmfare Award for Best Film in 1992.

Deewana is a 1992 Bollywood film by director Raj Kanwar, produced by Guddu Dhanoa & Lalit Kapoor. This film was Shahrukh Khan's debut. He appeared together with Alok Nath, Amrish Puri, Rishi Kapoor and the late Divya Bharti.

Synopsis : Kajal (Divya Bharti) marries a famous singer Ravi (Rishi Kapoor). They live happily for a while, until tragedy strikes when Ravi's greedy uncle (Amrish Puri) and cousin (Mohnish Behl), who are determined to lay their hands on Ravi’s wealth, hire hoodlums to kill Ravi. Kajal’s mother-in-law (Sushma Seth) takes her to a new place to pull her out of her depression. In a new city, Kajal tries to forget her past. Raja (Shahrukh Khan), the son of a rich man, falls for her, learns that she is a widow, and resolves to bring happiness into her life. Her mother-in-law too feels that she should marry again and persuades her to marry Raja. Kajal eventually comes to accept Raja as her husband and falls in love with him. Everyone seems to be living happily ever after until one day Raja rescues a man from hoodlums, treats him in a hospital, befriends him, and brings him home. This man is Ravi, who apparently survived his uncle's attempt to kill him. Everything is revealed and Kajal ends up staying with Raja; Ravi's mother leaves with Ravi. Kajal is then kidnapped by Ravi's uncle and both Ravi and Raja go to save her. In the ensuing struggle, Ravi sacrifices himself to save Raja and Kajal.

Saajan was directed by Lawrence D'Souza. The film stars Sanjay Dutt, Madhuri Dixit and Salman Khan in leading roles. It released on August 30, 1991.

Synopsis : Aman (Sanjay Dutt) is a poor, handicapped orphan who is befriended by wealthy Akash Verma (Salman Khan) during his childhood. Akash's parents adopt him and give him their family name, and Akash and Aman grow up as brothers. While Akash is a womanizer, Aman takes to writing poems under the pen name Sagar. The poems get published, and Aman becomes very popular. One of his fans is a young woman by the name of Pooja Saxena (Madhuri Dixit), who corresponds with Sagar. Akash meets Pooja and falls head over heels in love with her. When Aman comes to know this, he asks Akash to pose as Sagar, which he does, and Pooja and Akash fall in love with each other. A heartbroken Aman looks on, as he knows that although women may like his poetry, they will never come out openly and love him when they see his handicap. At the end, Akash discovers that Aman is actually Sagar and loves Pooja, so he decides to sacrifice his love for Aman.

This movie won two Filmfare Awards i.e, for Best Music Director - Nadeem Shravan & Best Playback Singer - Kumar Sanu for the song "Mera Dil Bhi".

Maine Pyaar Kiya starring Salman and Bhagyashree was released on December 29,1989. It was produced by Tarachand Barjatya and directed by Sooraj R Barjatya. Maine Pyar Kiya was the biggest hit of 1989 in India, one of the most successful Bollywood movies of the 1980s, and it established Salman Khan's status in the industry. Maine Pyar Kiya won four Filmfare Awards in 1990, including Best Film for producer Tarachand Barjatya. Salman Khan was also nominated for Best Actor, and won the Best Debut award for his performance.

The Maine Pyar Kiya soundtrack was very successful in India. Suman's role was sung by the famous playback singer Lata Mangeshkar; S.P Balasubramaniam sang for Prem. The opening track, Aate Jaate, is said to have been inspired by Stevie Wonder's 1984 single, I Just Called to Say I Love You, while the track Mere Rang Mein Rangne Wali was directly inspired by Swedish rock band Europe's 1986 single, The Final Countdown and theme from Love Story's Where Do I Begin. The track Antakshri was a medley of various Bollywood songs based on the Antakshari game, which was popularized with this film's release. The remaining tracks, including the popular Dil Deewana, were original compositions.
