Incarcarea dispozitivelor mobile cu USB 3.0

Intel a făcut publice specificaţiile interfeţei USB 3.0. Cel mai important aspect este acela că noul standard va fi compatibil cu USB 2.0, astfel că nu vom fi nevoiţi să facem upgrade-uri pentru a putea utiliza dispozitive interconectabile pe USB 3.0. Alături de compatibilitate, urmează o listă de facilităţi ce ţin în special de performanţe, astfel:

Viteza maximă de transfer pe USB 3.0 este de 4.8 Gbps (remarcăm o diferenţă uriaşă faţă de ceea ce oferă actualmente interfaţa USB 2.0 Hi-Speed: 480 Mbps);
Încărcarea, respectiv descărcarea informaţiilor se face pe canale separate de comunicare (transfer bidirecţional) – astfel este posibilă citirea şi scrierea simultană a datelor pe dispozitivele selectate; USB 2.0 suportă doar trafic unidirecţional. Transferul bidirecţional va diminua semnificativ durata de sincronizare dintre două dispozitive (telefon şi computer, spre exemplu);
USB 3.0 încarcă mai multe device-uri cu energie, mai rapid, mulţumită puterii maxime furnizate (900 mA, faţă de cei 500 mA oferiţi de USB 2.0). O să poţi încărca patru sau chiar mai multe dispozitive simultan, de la acelaşi hub USB;
Puterea furnizată este eficient optimizată, mulţumită unui nou protocol de gestionare a resurselor.

În mare, cam acestea sunt facilităţile principale oferite de USB 3.0. Până la sfârşitul anului, Intel s-ar putea să mai adauge câteva specificaţii, iar la sfârşitul lui 2009, începutul lui 2010 vom vedea pe piaţă primele produse cu interfaţă USB 3.0.

Procesorul care foloseşte principii de mecanică cuantică

În viitorul nu prea îndepărtat, până şi cele mai avansate sisteme de criptare a datelor ar putea fi sparte cu ajutorul unu nou tip de computer, al cărui procesor foloseşte principii de mecanică cuantică pentru a spori substanţial volumul de date procesat în unitatea de timp.

Testat de cercetători ai institutului MIT, lucrând în colaborare cu Universitatea din Innsbruck, un nou tip de computer foloseşte impulsuri lareser pentru a interacţiona cu un grup de 5 atomi individuali suspendaţi într-o capcană ionică. Sistemul este folosit pentru a pune în aplicare un algoritm dezvoltat în anul 1994 de un profesor în matematică pe nume Peter Shor, cu scopul de a permite factorizarea numerelor prime. Chiar şi în configuraţia de mai sus, sistemul permite aplicarea algoritmului Shor pentru a calcula corect factorii numerelor prime până 15, mult mai repede şi eficient decât este posibil cu un PC tradiţional.

Pentru viitor, provocarea constă în creşterea numărului de atomi care pot fi folosiţi în mod coerent, îmbunătăţind astfel viteza şi complexitatea calculelor desfăşurate.

Vestea mai puţin încurajatoare este că progresele sunt lente, principiile mecanicii cuantice fiind încă slab înţelese, chiar dacă au trecut mai bine de 100 ani de când primele formule matematice au fost enunţate. Probabil, vor mai trece ani buni până ce decriptarea datelor va putea fi accelerată folosind principii de mecanică cuantică.

If you needed a special day to remind you to regularly change your passwords and to protect your devices with a reliable security solution, you got it: November 30th is Computer Security Day. With the rise of ever more sophisticated threats such as ransomware, cybersecurity experts have to come up with innovative solutions to keep personal data safe.

Nowadays we store most or all of our sensitive personal data on electronic devices connected to the Internet, which makes them vulnerable to attacks. The AV-Test Institute says it registers over 390,000 new malicious programs every day.

One of the most dangerous types of malware on the rise today is known as ransomware. Even the FBI has at the start of the year issued a warning against this kind of program that can take over the files stored on your computer, restrict users’ access to them and ask for a sum of money in exchange for restoring things back to normal.

Certain kinds of ransomware block access to a computer posing as government law enforcement agencies such as the FBI, and demand the user should pay a fine in order to regain control over the PC.

But the most sophisticated ransomware encrypts precious files such as text documents, pictures and movies, and asks for a ransom to release the decryption key. The users are usually given a few days to make the payment. If they don’t comply, the files are destroyed.

“The advent of ransomware […] marked a turning point for the cyber-crime ecosystem,” according to Bitdefender, the world-leading cybersecurity innovator, maker of advanced security solutions for consumers and businesses. Bitdefender says ransomware “poses one of the most dangerous threats to both consumers and organizations.” Such malicious programs have “destroyed user files such as database backups, source code, documents and spreadsheets that can be priceless assets for companies.” Not only PCs, but Android users are targeted by ransomware, Bitdefender says.

The company is one of the first IT security makers that has released anti-ransomware tools, including a ‘CryptoWall vaccine’ that immunizes computers against one of the most notorious families of ransomware. Bitdefender’s security suite includes ransomware protection that is effective against all types of ransomware. Users can choose which files they wish to protect by placing them in a special zone that blocks encryption attempts from malicious programs.
