Even a fragile ceasefire creates the illusion that a resolution pathway is in progress. In such highly contentious regions as the Middle East, ceasefires frequently function as transitional phases between confrontation, rather than endpoints. The key question in the United States’ current standoff with Iran and its regional proxies is not whether hostilities have paused, or whether there are clear prospects for resolving the conflict in the near term, but whether the underlying causes and incentives for conflict have meaningfully changed. In short, they have not.

Vaccine hesitancy fed by misinformation is causing new surges of measles and whooping cough, while COVID-19 hotspots persist in some states and a new threat looms from an Ebola outbreak in central Africa.

Nationally there have been 1,983 measles cases this year, nearly the 2,288 total for all of 2025, which in itself was the worst year since 1991, the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported Friday.

Some may object to the contention that current DOJ is, in some ways, analogous to the Ministry of Truth in George Orwell’s 1984. But comparing the removal of Jan. 6 documents from DOJ website to the Ministry of Truth’s memory hole, while imperfect, is not absurd. In 1984, inconvenient documents from the past are physically destroyed so the ruling Party line can no longer be contradicted. In a digital administrative state, however, incinerators are unnecessary. A vanished page and a broken search result can accomplish something disturbingly similar.

Major airports across the country could soon freeze customs processing and cancel all international flights if sanctuary cities continue bucking federal immigration enforcement operations.

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin warned that he might pull out Customs and Border Patrol agents from airports in sanctuary cities. CBP agents are responsible for performing security inspections of international travelers, so a complete withdrawal would cripple airports’ processing of international flights.
