Retro Kid lights up the night with "Found You," a strobing beam of joy.

It's quite astonishing how much joy I felt loading up " Found You " on my speakers. It hit like a shot of sugar into the bloodstream, glistening and crystalline, leaving me in a state of fizz and pop, like a well-timed sip of an orange-flavored soft drink . The track brings a smile and comfort to my face that I missed. 

"Found You" is the feeling of a brightly colored beach ball concentrated into a drink and served ice cold.

Jose Gonzales graces our souls again with "A Perfect Storm," a whirling wind of a track from his latest album, Against The Dying of The Light.

Jose Gonzales has always been a wailing ghost amongst the spirits and sounds of the indie space . With melancholic ballads like "Far Away" and beaming epics like "Stay Alive," he has always been like water, flowing and adjusting to the world's heart .

 With "A Perfect Storm," those waters are getting restless. "A Perfect Storm" flows and curves around itself in the wind of its aforementioned name; it builds and builds until the wave can't hold anymore and cracks under the pressure.

What's so good?

Wasn't entirely sure what to make of this one when it opened up. It's a slow builder, taking nearly a minute to get going. But come to think of it, that's the theme of the whole song: a nice slow build that layers in new ear treats along the way. And boy oh boy does it manage to get the groove going along the way. 

About 2 minutes into the song I definitely found myself thinking: "this has major The Whitest Boy Alive vibes." They're one of my favorite bands, with jams upon jams upon jams. Perhaps that means Aussie-based Glass Fountain are also about to become one of my favorites?

I love the bossa nova direction of Trails And Ways’ “Young.” It feels like a song built for slow afternoons and repeat listens. The instrumentals are rich and inviting, and the vocals carry that St. South tone that pulls me in every time. It is easy to hear why Trails And Ways are regulars on Indie Shuffle.

Mounika. gives our little blue homes the spotlight with "3Dhearth," a warm and solitary track for the soul. 

"3Dhearth" is a warm fire in the center of a house, but also a cool breeze on a summer's day, it is both comforting and refreshing at the same time - a coffee in the mist and a slow beer at the local quiet tavern. The feelings are floaty and expressive, the sound bumpy and meditative at the same time. "3Dhearth" is peak ambience, it's not trying to be anything special, and yet through not trying, it succeeds in being more than special. It is comfort in audio form.

I only recently realised that "Melodic House" is one of my favorite genres. I never really knew exactly how to categorize an act like RUFUS DU SOL, but it turns out that's the genre to use.

Many of the new songs I hear within this genre are kinda so-so. So when one stands out, it really stands out.

Enter Bob Moses and Notre Dame. Their new collaborative single "On My Mind" hit all the right notes for me within the first minute, and I hadn't even listened through the ful thing before deciding that I needed to blog out. Hopefully you find yourself enjoying it just as much?

Big Sleep’s “Bruiser” caught my attention with its unyielding forward push. The song starts, it drives, it doesn’t let up, and I’m absolutely here for it. From the first moments, there’s a sense of urgency that never really loosens its grip.

If I had to pick which of my favorite artists it reminds me of, I’d land on early Bloc Party, and with deep admiration for their work, that’s meant as a clear compliment. “Bruiser” taps into that 'controlled chaos' sound without feeling derivative.

Obongjayar prescribes a vocal tincture of joy and self love with "Happy Head" a truly needed medicine for the times.

While the track itsself might be a little bit more reflective and intense with it's deeper layers, it still isn't exempt from the beauitful feeling if release it gives. It is the perfect combination of joy and melancholic angst, it speaks with the type of intensity Obonjayar knows so well. It's stern and soft, sweet and sour all together in one perfect drop of remedy and sound. "Happy Head" is at one moment a loud celebration and at another a cool and quiet reflection.

"Happy Head" is understanding in motion and healing in audible form.

I won't lie: I've listened to my fair share of Parra For Cuva and ODESZA. The sound clearly resonates with me, and I think Palladian has captured something similar with his remix of "Demey" by Jeremy Ragheb.

The original version of the song sets a pretty interesting base, but I feel like this remix brings it to life. The addition of vocals, the drumbeat, the ebbs and flows - it compliments Jeremy's use of the "Khaen" perfectly. 

Also interesting to note: there's a "viral" TikTok of Jeremy playing this song in a subway. Super cool!

Have I been living under a rock? In November 2025, Khruangbin released a reimagined version of their debut album, The Universe Smiles Upon You, for its 10-year anniversary… and I’m only just stumbling upon it now.

“White Gloves” is arguably one of their best releases, and with “White Gloves II,” extra subtleties and improvements have been implemented to elevate the song. The result is an impressive track! Listen for yourself; I hope and trust you’ll enjoy it.

*SIgh* I just love Arlo Parks' voice. This artist can do no wrong in my eyes. 

With "Heaven," the production takes us in a more experimental direction and it's pretty exciting. The genres bend and fuse as her etraordinary vocals take centre stage. 

This is mot just another homerun from Arlo Parks, because "Heaven" is out of this world.

There's a lot of reverb going on with this - to the point the vocals are sorta drowned out. And yet I think that's exactly the reason I like it. I feel like I'm shrouded in some sort of fuzzy auditory cloud, and every time I hit play it tickles my eardrums in just the right way.

Hopefully that didn't create any weird visuals for you...

This is actually the second track by La' Voar we've picked up this month (the first one was "Storma "). That one's equally interesting! Clearly the Finnish artist is on to something good.

It's summer here in Cape Town, so I've had a lot of laid-back lofi rock tracks grooving in the background. You can get a full snapshot of that flavor in this playlist. 

Clearly it's also summer for Australian producer Callum MacDonald, aka Monsieur Mellow. Not sure what his involvement is with France and Paris is, to be honest, given that he's on the other side of the world. But I'll let that slide, because what he's pulled off with this single hits the exact right notes for my summer enjoyment.

For those of you in the Northern Hemisphere, this one's definitely worth saving for the warmer months.

What's so good?

I've been pretty angry with the state of the world lately. I'm sure there are a lot of people who can relate to that feeling. And in those moments, music—especially punk rock—can offer a sense of catharsis.

VIAL is a punk band that I just recently discovered, and I'm kicking myself for not listening to them earlier. Their latest single, "NEVER BEEN BETTER," is a great example of artists being able to express their frustrations through art.

Just the guttural repetition of the title at the end, along with lyrics discussing things like feeling as though you're losing years of your life, and the irritation toward people trying to tell you to just stay calm or relax.

"NEVER BEEN BETTER" is just a solid rock song that also serves as a good introduction to VIAL. If you go on their socials, you'll see that punk isn't just an aesthetic for them. They really are a great example of a band using their music to address topics and issues that many of us can relate to.

In line with the moody creations from Rone and Gidge (personal favorites), Pax Solis' "Wake Me Up" wakes up the emotions. This song simply makes me feel. 

"Wake Me Up" is moody yet not too heavy, and within it, there's plenty of space for the listener to drift and reflect. With this track, the Porto-based producer and multi-instrumentalist crafts a soundscape that feels truly transcendent.

Australia-based Vilde haunts our memories with “Vilde,” a melancholic audio novel.

“Vilde” is haunting and heavy, with a sense of modern contemporary that grounds it in the reality of our tiny little world. There is great magic happening with “Vilde,” great secrets being told, but our self-contained brains can't measure it. 

“Vilde” is dark and moody, like an Edgar Allan Poe poem left to burn on a fire; it brightens our day with its intensity. “Vilde” might not be the song for the socials, but it is the song for those lonely nights where it's just you, a glass, and a record player.

“Vilde” surrounds you in its melancholic embrace and allows you to feel everything.

What's so good?

I feel like the vocals on this song walk a fine line between being over-processed and absolutely wonderful. Fortunately, they fall into the latter category, and every time I hear the song I find myself drifting into a wonderful, chilled out headspace. 

Dutch producer Esteban Fabriz classes his music as "afro house," though I have a feeling this one falls more into a "chill house" category than any other. Perhaps I'm splitting straws, but I feel like the "afro" elements are limited here. 

At the end of the day, it doesn't matter too much. It's lovely on the ears.
