Mid-Autumn Festival 2012...and Mooncakes

Mid-Autumn Festival.....vaguely aware about the folk lore behind this festival....though all i know about this festival is it includes eating Mooon Cake....now the festival has taken on an artistic dimension ala for marketing reasons ...and the packaging gets more beautiful by the year..

...this year was no exception....colorful and beautiful...

... this one came with the ooolong tea...wah lau wei....

...whats more ...some families brought it along during their lunch on Sunday 30 Sept....the actual day of the festival

...me i like to eat my moon cake at home...my all time favourite is the mix nut with ham...absolute yummy ....goes well with a red wine....

but this year i discovered this jasmine cheesy citrus..."CHEESY!!!" ...in a traditional oriental delicacy ...

...wow! we Asians have moved on.....

Perak Arts Festival 2012 (2)

Day 1 of the Perak Arts Festival ..btw...saw posters of the program of whats available...don't understand why the papers or more of these posters were not put up around town.

,,,art appeals to everyone irrespective of their age

..anyway the festival started at 5pm with street performances in front of the City Council Offices...and it was LIVELY!!...This percussion group from SMK Sultan Azlan Shah,Bota was super!!!

..they had the audience bip-bopping and provided the accompaniment for the break-dance and flash-mob troupes.

..the vitality of the performance got the attention of all present...

of course some showmanship helped....

which kinda got the party started

...everyone wanted to get in on the act

...and then like a party started....

...looked like a joget dance session after awhile...

...obviously appreciated by all...

..the next flash-mob and grafitti event??!!!

..the grafitti artist starts with a blank sheet...and as the music and dance gets the inspiration to create...(there were 2 artists)....interesting inspiration

...at night the fest continued with the official opening....and more colorful activities...

..not sure if these lovely ladies are art but they certainly added to the beauty of the evening

...at the pavilions....cultural games and music.....

....and of course the State's Kumpulan Selendang dancers....

....the festival ends tomorrow Sunday 16....check it out.Its an eye opener.

Perak Arts Festival 2012

Today Friday September 14 is the start of the Perak Arts Festival held at Dataran MBI until Sunday. The festival will feature the cultures of the Malay, Chinese, Indian and Orang Asli communities.

Beginning at 5pm the festival starts with grafitti and percuission poresentations. From 930pm

onwards a street festival showcasing the traditional and cultural dances of the Malay, Chinese,

Indian and Orang Asli communities begin. View Malay drum performances, Chinese Diablo and

Dragon dances and Orang Asli Sewang presenttion.

On the second day starting from 830am the exhibition pavilions open their doors exhibiting making of handicrafts eg gold thread embroidery, Chinese calligraph and also making a mural. Try out a blow-pipe or learn how to play Chinese chess among other community games.

At night view cultural dances and a performance by popular artists Ella dn Amy Search.

The last day Sunday 16 September the festival starts at 9am and lasts till 8pm after which the Malaysia Day Celebrations begin, also at the same location with street parades by the army and school bands.

The celebration will be graced by Chief Minister Dato Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir and the evening promises to be a glitzy and fun evening.

Local handicrafts will be on sale. Check out the festival and pick up some authentic Malaysian culture there. It promises to be different.

Light Late Night Snack....Malaysian standard

A late night (but light) snack...ie around 10pm...to go with a cold Hak Kow (good ole Guiness) is a tow foo with pickled onions and cucumber..yummy! and the ever light and refreshing fu yeong tarn (can't really call it omelette coz thats a different taste).
The chinese omelette has char siew slices and choong (spring onion leaves) ...harrr...just right to remove that peckish mouthful sensation...before bedtime....cheers!

Dato' Lee Chong Wei vs Lin Dan..2012 Olympics

This was the only Olympic competion that i didn't want to miss....the final badminton singles match between Dato Lee Chong Wei and Lin Dan of China... i think my whole neighborhood was home at 8pm to catch the game judging from the shouts that emanated from around the other houses during that time

..undoubtedly the eyes of the whole nation was glued to this game yesterday night....and why not too...Chong Wei ...that wonderful and humble Malaysian was up against China's Lin Dan....and everyMalaysian wanted him to win...of course we wanted him to win gold for the country ...
but also because Chong Wei, despite his ankle injury, was in great shape and deserved a win.

it was a keenly fought game from the start ...the first set was won by Chong Wei with Lin Dan taking the second set...

...but ultimately Lin Dan won the match...when the score was 19 all... the entire stadium as well as all Malaysians whether in their living rooms or at outside screens must have been at the edge of their seats....then it was over with a score of 21 to 19..Lin Dan was ecstatic....

...while Chong Wei...well his body language said it all....and as it is with his character...he apologised to the nation for not winning gold...now isn't that typical of Chong Wei...

...Malaysia didn't win Gold....that IS a shame ...but to depend on only 1 person to be able earn a gold for a country of 28 million...whew!.. that is alot of stress for one person....but then we have DATO LEE CHONG WEI....he gave his best...just view the result....he never gave up...fought till the very end...what more can a country ask for...

...jolly good showing Dato',,,,,Malaysians are proud of your effort.

Turning Green...Dataran MBI

The field at Dataran MBI is turning green again ....after the recent dry spell. ........

Presumably the 2 rain showers this week must have helped.

Actually Dataran MBI is a lovely field.. its a pity though that the water fountains don't work......

.......especially since its a nice design....sigh!!!....whats more its right under the noses of City Council.

Cheah Brothers...Ipoh Ngau Lam

Undoubtedly the best Ngau Lam beef stall in Ipoh has to be the Cheah Brothers Food Centre at Ipoh Garden South.

They have the whiole range of 'liew'...you really can't ask for more....just select what you want....

...tell them what type of noodles you want and .....

..the ladies will take your order...and you just wait for your meal......

....this is it...though i really prefer the beef belly ngau lam....with the lobak and tripe +++

really a good breakfast....though i usually take this for Sunday brunch.

Ipoh: Dry Season. June-July 2012

The dry season for the year was upon us since June. I managed to capture glimpses of the scenario whenever i saw scenes of it ...and sharing some of those observations....some can be funny...but that s the way life is Huh!.....

This picture was taken on June 13. Poor guy....1 hose and a Dataran MBI field.

Picture taken on June 18. The Kledang Range is barely visible due to the haze.

Seen a productivity improvement....Worker replaced by water sprayer....based on the condition of the field can't
say its too effective.

June 25. It was more windy then. The outline of the Kledang Range is visibly better.


July 2,.evening taken after a rainfall. A clear view of the Kledang Range, the common view for most of the year.

Hopefully ...July 2 marks the end of the dry season.....

Neat Landscape along Club Road.

I have always admired the neatly sculptured trees along Club Road (Jln Panglima Bukit Gantang). Its nice to look at...almost like garden art...plus of course...the mix and match of colored shrubs on the islands. Definitely one of the positive points of our City Councils initiatives.

..and these are the guys that 'create and maintain this garden art'...Bani (with his sculpting tool in hand) and also ...Rawin and friend..

Actually this area next to St Michael's School, Ipoh Padang and Ipoh Club is a always a pleasant walk. Would be nice though if MBI could level out or maybe replace several of the sidewalk tiles.

JJ Corner, Tambun, Ipoh.....Camouflaged Oasis.

I discovered a cool afternoon oasis for that cold beer....actually so did alot of residents between Sunway and Ipoh Garden...probably because this place JJ Corner (behind the main street ie Tambun Road and in front of the Tambun Police Station on Jalan Ampang) also serves toddy.....

another landmark...the Tambun Market..yep there is one there...nice old design too....

...didn't i say the 'nearby locals' have already discovered this place much earlier!!!!

...who regard their regular weekend get-togethers as .....a 'must do' chore.....

...ahhhh!...wise men these ....cheers!

Bercham Accident

Saw this accident at Bercham this evening ...around 5.15pm trhrough my rear view mirror.. when i heard a loud BANG!!!#@**at the traffic light to the light industrial area/ Caltex gas station...going towards the Tasek Road junction....

...saw this Kia climb up the culvert.......don't know who banged who....but all involved looked shaken up!!!...the car rear looked fine??,,,

....this car too ...front damaged...rear is fine???

...typical of car accidents....dunno how it happened....interesting observation...the tow trucks came around in less than 5 minutes....most intrigueing!!

i didn't do it!!??

730am on the Fair Park road heading towards the Stadium...saw this small lorry overturn on its side...wet road..at a slight corner...possibly sleepy driver....so maybe...karma was waiting....
