Congratulations to Copper Hills High School Team Blue on winning a state championship in Unified Soccer! The Grizzlies defeated Hunter High School 1-0 at America First Field to secure the trophy. Copper Hills was one of four Jordan School District teams to advance to play for a state championship in Unified Soccer.

Congratulations also to West Jordan Black, Herriman White, and Herriman Blue for giving it their all and qualifying to play at the home of Real Salt Lake and the Utah Royals.

Jordan Virtual Learning Academy Students Enjoy Boo-tiful Trunk-or-Treat

The schools that make up the Jordan Virtual Learning Academy, Rocky Peak Elementary, Kelsey Peak Middle, and Kings Peak High School teamed up for an epic Trunk-or-Treat party. Together, the schools filled the Jordan Learning Center campus with fun costumes, creatively decorated cars, games, and candy. Kings Peak student council organized the Spook Alley Bus, which gave anyone brave enough to enter a good scare.

Majestic Elementary Arts Academy Students Parade Through West Jordan City Hall

Halloween Literacy Night is a Treat for Westvale Elementary Families

The Westvale Elementary School community gathered for a Halloween party to build literacy skills. Students and families learned new literacy tricks, and the school provided treats for everyone. The school was decorated for the occasion, and students came in costume to play fun, educational games like a flashlight word search in a dark classroom and a spooky book read-along with their teachers and families. Parents left with a Road to Reading guide and tips to help students of all levels and ages become stronger readers and writers.

Jordan District Runners Place Well at State Cross Country Meet

Herriman High School’s Trevin Lounsbury paced the field at Sugar House Park and won the UHSAA 6A State Cross Country Championship. Lounsbury finished first in the three-mile run in the boys’ division in 15:08 and helped Herriman secure a fourth-place finish on the boys’ side. Riverton’s Carson Stafford (3rd) and Kurt Perry (8th) finished in the top 10 to lead the Riverton boys’ team to a third-place finish in the team standings.

On the girls’ side, Herriman’s Ava Clawson (7th) and Lily Clawson (10th) finished in the top 10 in the girls’ 6A division, helping Herriman to a fourth-place team finish. Riverton finished fifth as a team, paced by junior Lyla Swain.

Announcement of Jordan School District Board of Education Member Vacancy Voting District 5

The Board of Education of Jordan School District announces a midterm vacancy in Voting District 5. Voting District 5 geographically covers some areas within the cities of Copperton, Herriman, South Jordan, and West Jordan. The Board of Education will meet on Monday, Nov. 23 at 4 p.m. and/or Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2026 at 4 p.m. to interview applicants for this position. These meetings will take place in the Jordan Academy for Technology and Careers South Campus, 12723 S. Park Avenue (2080 West), Riverton UT. It is expected the Board will appoint a person at its Nov. 24, 2026 6:30 p.m. business meeting to fulfill the remainder of the unexpired term that runs through Dec. 31, 2028.

The qualifications for a local board of education (Utah Code 20A-14-202, 20A-9-201) are:

Be a U.S. Citizen.
Shall have been a resident of the local school board district in which the person is seeking election for at least one year as of the date of the election [appointment].
Be and remain a registered voter in the local school board district from which the member is elected or appointed.
Maintain primary residence within the local school board district from which the member is elected or appointed.
A member of a local school board may not, during the member’s term in office, also serve as an employee of that Board.

Choirs Harmonize at Copper Hills

The choirs at Sunset Ridge and West Hills Middle Schools joined their peers at Copper Hills High School for a choir collaboration. The choirs performed songs for each other, then split into vocal sections to learn and perform Irving Berlin’s Blue Skies as one. Students and staff at Rocky Peak Virtual Elementary unleashed their superpowers at Family Fun Night. Students dropped into the Jordan Learning Center to pick up second-quarter supplies and enjoy in-person time with their family, classmates, and teachers. Students could play STEM, literacy, or math games, visit the book fair, and cash in Dojo points for prizes.

School Bus Drivers and Charlie the Bus Buddy Teach Students About Safety

This week is National School Bus Safety Week, which serves as a reminder to motorists, students, and school bus drivers of the important role we all play in ensuring the safety of children.

Jordan District school bus drivers, along with their new friend Charlie the Bus Buddy, are visiting every JSD elementary school to teach students about bus safety. Students watch a short safety video, then head outside to practice safely boarding, riding, and exiting the bus. They even learn and practice how to properly evacuate the bus in an emergency situation.

Thank you to our dedicated school bus drivers and transportation staff for doing all they can to keep kids safe every day.

BYU Dunk Team Brings High-Flying Fun to Oquirrh Hills Middle School

Oquirrh Hills Middle School students and staff enjoyed a high-energy assembly featuring the Brigham Young University Dunk Team and Cosmo the Cougar. The BYU athletic acrobats delivered a memorable performance, executing impressive dunks and engaging students. The event aligned with the school’s “Level Up” theme, which encourages students to excel academically, socially, and personally.

Beyond showcasing their skills, team members invited several students and staff to join them on the floor and test their own dunking abilities. Teachers Mr. Egbert and Mr. Diaz also dunked during the event, and two school administrators helped with the team’s stunts.

The exciting visit energized the school community, giving students and faculty an engaging, entertaining assembly before fall break.

National School Lunch Week Brings the Big Top to the Lunch Room

Cafeterias across Jordan School District transformed into the “Big Top” for National School Lunch Week. This year’s theme, “Cafeteria Circus: Where School Meals Take Center Stage,” turned lunchrooms into a three-ring circus with decorations, dress-up, and delicious meals like Acrobat Alfredo and Ringmaster Rippers. At Golden Fields Elementary, the nutrition staff even led students in fun carnival games for prizes after lunch.

Jordan District cafeterias serve more than 30,000 meals every single day thanks to the hard work of over 500 cafeteria employees. Their dedication and care make lunch one of the best parts of the day for our students.

Jordan School District Nutrition Services staff set up on the playground and gave prizes to students who listened to apple facts, voted at the tasting table, and learned about how apples go from local farms to their lunch trays.

Apple Crunch Day is an annual celebration during National Farm to School Month to support local farmers and teach students about where their food comes from.

Bingham High School Takes Home 6A Titles in Girls Tennis

Congratulations to the Bingham High School Miners girls’ tennis team on winning a pair of 6A State Championships this weekend. Kamryn Newman marched through the 1st singles bracket without dropping a single set, taking home the championship 6-1, 6-0. It was a breakthrough for the junior who finished as runner-up in her freshman and sophomore seasons.

In 1st Doubles, the senior pair of Madison Yeates and Evalyn Roberts prevailed in a tight championship matchup over the top-seeded doubles pair from Skyridge High School, 7-5, 3-6, 7-5.

A special congratulations to the teams from Copper Hills, Herriman, and West Jordan that advanced to their Championship matches to be played at America First Field, home of Real Salt Lake and the Utah Royals, in Sandy at the end of the month.

Nonprofit Teams with Jordan School District and Real Salt Lake to Provide Free Dental Care to Students

TeamSmile, in partnership with Jordan School District schools and Real Salt Lake, provided dozens of students with dental checkups and preventive care at America First Field. Local dentists, hygienists, and volunteers gave underserved children cleanings, screenings, and immediate treatments at zero cost to them or the District. Local team mascots helped make dental appointments fun and exciting for students.

TeamSmile’s goal is to prevent oral hygiene issues from causing school absences and classroom distractions. Collaboration among schools, sports organizations, and healthcare professionals ensures students leave with healthier smiles and the support they need to thrive for years to come.

This year’s theme was eras of art, starting with prehistoric pieces depicting cave art and dinosaurs, moving through ancient, medieval, the age of invention, and roaring neons, and ending with the digital dawn of contemporary and future-inspired works. Students designed and created all the pieces during a fun school day, getting dirty as they made memorable, temporary works of art.

WIDA Graduates Celebrated at Multilingual Learner Family Night

Nearly 500 Jordan School District students were celebrated at Multilingual Learner Family Night for becoming 2026 WIDA graduates and earning a Seal of Biliteracy. Students of all ages who passed the WIDA (World-Class Instructional Design and Assessment) test received certificates and medals certifying their proficiency in English.

The night included a presentation of the 2026 WIDA graduates and highlighted multilingual learners with student performances and speeches. Tara Matiga, representing Herriman High School’s Asian Student Union and Foothills Elementary School’s sixth grade Chinese Dual Language Immersion students each performed songs. Several students spoke to the crowd about what being bilingual means to them.

Programs represented at the career fair included everything from auto collision to dental assisting, digital media, and biotechnology, giving students plenty of options as they look forward to continuing their education.

Bluffdale Elementary Students Blast Off to Planet Kindergarten

Students at Bluffdale Elementary became the latest recruits preparing for a mission to Planet Kindergarten. The Planet Kindergarten initiative challenges kindergarteners to learn all the letters and their sounds by November 1, setting them up for early reading success.

At Bluffdale, the administration got into the space theme and dressed as an astronaut and Earth. Together with the students, they read the book Planet Kindergarten and encouraged the students to reach for the stars and collect special trading cards and pins as they demonstrate their mastery of letters and sounds.

Jordan District Students Shine at 2026 Shakespeare Competition

The Utah Shakespeare Festival hosted its 50th annual Shakespeare Competition. Students from around the country, including Jordan School District high schools, visited Southern Utah University to participate in acting, dance, music, and technical theater events at the largest scholastic Shakespeare competition in North America.

Riverton finished second overall in the Buckingham Division for the largest schools and placed in the Top 10 in all submitted acting and dance scenes. Herriman finished second place overall in the music sweepstakes, which encourages students to explore the music of the Renaissance. Mountain Ridge and Riverton had several students finish first in Tech Olympic categories, which showcase students working behind-the-scenes in sound, lighting, scenery, make-up, and costumes.

Foothills Elementary Brings Community Together for Stargazing During the Mid-Autumn Festival

Foothills Elementary School students and staff welcomed hundreds of community members to the Star Gaze and Mid-Autumn Festival Night. The event combined Chinese culture, science, and student projects for a fun evening of learning and showcasing student achievement. Students performed and participated in storytelling, interactive cultural stations, and showcased classroom projects.

The evening was hosted in partnership with the Salt Lake Astronomical Society, whose members provided telescopes, giving attendees a chance to see the moon, planets, and stars up close. Many families stayed well beyond the scheduled end of the event to continue exploring the night sky.

Organizers credited the event’s success to the community showing up and volunteering. They gave a special thank you to the Chinatown Supermarket and other community partners for helping make the evening a memorable celebration of culture, science, and community.
