Directed and edited entirely by guitarist and project leader RYU, the video throws bassist Sawa (Aldious) and twin vocalists MaoMao and TanTan into a high-impact sci-fi battle for Earth's survival, fighting alongside RYU. Fire, explosions and cinematic VFX frame a track driven by blistering string-skipping tapping solos, thunderous basslines and soaring dual vocals.

“This song is about the battles of FIRST CONTACT as we protect Earth from invasion, and the video tells that story visually,” explains RYU. “I’ve been making VFX-based music videos for years, but this one took the most time I have ever spent on a production.”

The ambitious production pushes RYU’s VFX-driven style further than ever before.

“The superhero scene with MaoMao and TanTan before the second chorus alone took nearly 100 hours,” RYU states. “There are explosions and special effects throughout the video, and every scene required an incredible amount of work.”

'EARTH NATION' sets the tone for the new album, arriving digitally on 1 March.

“It isn’t Epic Metal or Symphonic Metal,” RYU tells web-media J-Generation in a recent interview. “It’s a pure fusion of epic orchestral music and band sound.”

The nine-track album pushes the project’s technical and emotional range even further. RYU has described instrumental track ‘Moment’ as “the most technically challenging song” on the album, while another track promises to be “a real tear-jerker.”

The album also features expanded contributions from vocalist TanTan, whose powerful performances have previously appeared on releases by BLOOD STAIN CHILD and have drawn attention from fans amazed by a voice often mistaken for AI, despite RYU repeatedly confirming that no artificial intelligence is used in FIRST CONTACT’s music.

EARTH NATION will be released physically on CD internationally via JPU Records on 1 May. The CD edition includes a booklet featuring English lyrics, detailed song explanations, member photography and digital autographs. Preorders are available now.

Japanese rap-rock duo BACK-ON dive back into the anime world that helped define their career with ANIMANIA, a new 4-track cover EP set for release on 1 April. From today, 18 February, fans can pre-save the EP and stream the first single “Guess Who Is Back”, arriving alongside a brand new animated lyric video.

The announcement follows the success of BACK-ON’s sold-out ANIMANIA shows at the end of last year, where fans packed venues to hear the band’s biggest anime and game-related hits performed live.

For over two decades, BACK-ON have been a driving force in anime music, fusing rock, rap and pop with explosive live energy. Their songs have featured in some of anime and tokusatsu’s most recognised titles including FAIRY TAIL, Mobile Suit GUNDAM and KAMEN RIDER. Now, ANIMANIA sees guitarist and vocalist KENJI03 and rapper TEEDA reinterpreting four iconic anime songs, including tracks they originally helped create themselves.

The first taste of the EP, “Guess Who Is Back,” is a bold reimagining of the hit song originally performed by J-pop superstar Kumi Koda for the anime Black Clover.

“Out of all the songs we’ve provided for other artists, this one really felt the most ‘us’”, says KENJI03. “When the idea for this EP came up, this was the first track we picked, no question”.

TEEDA adds, “The loud riffs and rap already hit hard, so instead of leaning on shout-style vocals, we focused on bringing out BACK-ON’s signature style”.

The track holds special meaning for BACK-ON, who originally composed the music, with lyrics co-written alongside Kumi Koda. Since its original release, the song has surpassed 42 million Spotify streams and gained tens of millions of YouTube views worldwide.

To mark today’s release, BACK-ON teamed up with UK-based 12 Inch Media, known for work with global artists such as Bring Me The Horizon, Ed Sheeran and Oasis, to produce a high-impact animated lyric video that matches the track’s intensity and anime spirit.

ANIMANIA also features BACK-ON’s take on “PRIDE” from Mobile Suit Gundam SEED DESTINY (originally by HIGH and MIGHTY COLOR), the ONE PIECE theme “HANDS UP!” which BACK-ON originally wrote and was made famous by Kota Shinzato, and “GO!!!” by longtime peers FLOW, known worldwide as a defining opening theme for NARUTO.

With ANIMANIA, BACK-ON are not simply revisiting anime songs. They are reclaiming a musical world they helped shape, celebrating the global rise of anime culture, and reconnecting with fans who discovered their music through the screen as much as the stage.

EARTH NATION’s full tracklist has also been announced. The album will feature nine tracks. While no audio previews have been released yet, RYU has promised that the album will be even more epic than the project’s already ambitious debut, PEACEMILLION.

Outside of Japan, EARTH NATION will be released digitally by JPU Records on 1 March 2026. A localised physical edition will follow at a later date and will include lore detailing the world FIRST CONTACT has created, printed in English for the first time.

While RYU describes FIRST CONTACT as a genre-free project, the debut album PEACEMILLION drew from a wide range of influences, including traditional Celtic music, cyber trance, metal, and video game and movie soundtracks.

With EARTH NATION, FIRST CONTACT continue to expand a universe where music, story and imagination collide, inviting listeners into a world that reaches far beyond genre, borders, and maybe even Earth itself.

The track, which features guest vocals on the chorus from U-TAN, frontman of Japanese punk legends GOOD4NOTHING, delivers a rush of energy that wouldn’t feel out of place blasting from a CRT TV as you kickflip your way through a classic skateboarding game. Fast, hooky, and full of heart, it’s shaping up to be one of the most promising punk rock releases of the year.

Ahead of release, SOUVENIRS was picked up by Amazing Radio’s Pop Punk Tunes playlist, a highly curated selection where editors handpick just seven of the best pop punk tracks of the moment. The song sits alongside new anthems from the likes of Yellowcard and The Molotovs.

The momentum follows debut single DON’T BACK DOWN / HAUNTED HOME, which saw the band featured on over 100 playlists.

“SOUVENIRS is a bit of a throwback to early 2000s pop punk,” explains vocalist Josh. “Just a reminder that even pushing 40, we still feel like that nerdy teenager in love.”

“The song itself went through a lot of changes in the studio,” he adds. “It’s the first single where every part is played by a band member rather than guitarist masasucks recording the majority, so the final mix took a while to perfect. We even pushed the release date back to make sure we got it exactly right.”

U-TAN’s appearance on the track came down to a mix of coincidence and perfect timing.

“We were recording vocals in Osaka and U-TAN just happened to be hanging out at the studio,” says Josh. “With a bit of arm-twisting he jumped on the track. I’ve worked with him on writing songs for G4N before, so it felt like the right moment to collaborate.”

Bridging Tokyo and the UK, past and present, STRAIGHT BACK FORWARD tap into a shared punk muscle memory rooted in sweaty venues, scratched CDRs and good times that never really fade.

About STRAIGHT BACK FORWARD:

Formed in Tokyo in 2020, STRAIGHT BACK FORWARD is a punk rock project led by guitarist masasucks, marking a new creative challenge in his career. Raised on west side of Japan Osaka,and known for his work with FULLSCRATCH, the HIATUS, RADIOTS, J (LUNA SEA) Band, PUFFY Band, sometimes, BAD HOP Band, TEAM SHACHI, also as a producer and more, masasucks began the project alongside London-raised vocalist Josh after the two crossed paths in Tokyo. Despite coming from different backgrounds, they quickly bonded over the melodic punk rock that shaped their youth.

Even as the world was thrown into turmoil by the global pandemic, their drive remained unshaken. To celebrate the release, the band’s first since March 2025’s EP LOVE, SPARK, JOY!, it has also been announced that SCANDAL will appear as guests at American event Sakura-Con, taking place 3-5 April at the Seattle Convention Center.

“Girl is Ghost” blends a cutting, guitar-driven funk rock sound with a steady four-on-the-floor beat, subtly infused with Japanese musical elements that add a distinctive hidden flavour. Lyrically, the song reflects the evolving story of SCANDAL themselves, a band that has continuously transformed while staying true to its identity, allowing listeners to feel the depth of their journey through the song’s narrative world.

The track also sees the Guinness World Records-certified band (longest-running all-female band without member changes or hiatuses) reunite with long-time collaborator Hidenori Tanaka, responsible for hits including “Haruka”, “Taiyo to Kimi ga Egaku STORY”, and more recently “Terra Boy”.

With ‘Girl is Ghost’, SCANDAL invite fans into a world where past and present collide, and where their evolving story continues to haunt in the best possible way.

The three-track single, available to presave now, sees ASP continuing to blur the lines between idol, rock, and underground culture. Title track 'Pipe Dream' and accompanying song 'JUSHO' are produced, sound-designed, and composed by Yohji Igarashi, a DJ/producer whose résumé spans work with ATARASHII GAKKO!, kZm, and HIYADAM, and who also operates as one half of Ski Yu & Yohji Igarashi alongside King Gnu drummer Ski Yu. Lyrics for both tracks are written by Pecori, MC of Japanese hip hop group ODD Foot Works, and the creative force behind Number_i’s viral hits 'INZM' and 'GOAT' (over 200 million YouTube plays). The Igarashi–Pecori partnership previously powered ASP’s single 'BA-BY'.

'Pipe Dream' pairs finely detailed guitar work with lyrics that capture emotional instability without ever losing resolve, an introspective yet forceful track that hits with direct emotional weight. Meanwhile, 'JUSHO' offers a bittersweet track with layered lyrics reflecting ASP’s current state with striking clarity.

Closing track 'Warp!!' follows the trajectory set by the upbeat single 'Get New MIRAI'. Produced once again by Japanese rock band Age Factory, the song fuses high-speed momentum with a lingering sense of melancholy. Its explosive energy and forward-thrusting hooks live up to its title, creating the sensation of being “warped” onward.

The single’s vivid, surreal cover artwork is directed by JACKSON kaki, who also crafted the striking visuals for 'BA-BY'. Built in 3DCG, the artwork’s distorted expressions and uncanny atmosphere mirror the tension, urgency, and controlled chaos that define ASP at this pivotal moment.

With the end now in sight, Pipe Dream feels both confrontational and intimate. A snapshot of a group wrestling with uncertainty while standing their ground. It’s not a farewell yet, but it carries the weight of everything that’s coming.

Starting 2026 in a way only they can, FATHOMLESS SKYWALKER return with ‘SAKEKAGURA’, a magical hymn to sake and celebration, while officially welcoming new member NINO into their ranks. As ever, nothing in the world of FATHOMLESS SKYWALKER is simple or ordinary. Every release is a grand quest, every announcement a legend in the making.

So please allow us to recount this latest tale in the band’s own words, originally presented as a handwritten scroll in Japanese, sealed in a bottle that drifted by our offices near the Thames. An English translation of the message can be found below:

Together the crew sets out on a journey in search of a mysterious treasure.

Experience the new chapter in song form by watching the full music video above. Filmed at Jyouseiji Temple in Uraga, Yokosuka, this sacred site was founded in 1227 during the Kamakura period. Amid the chaos of the Onin War in the 15th century, the temple was relocated, later reestablished, and given its present name in 1637. In 2026, the grounds were graced by the Sake God himself, Kaelhakase, who is also a member of the band JAPANESE FOLK METAL, marking the filming of this music video as a moment where myth, history, and sound converged.

SAKEKAGURA’s music video was directed by Yuuichi Tamura from Ato4 Sound Factory, who’s worked on videos for the likes of CROSS VEIN, SAISEIGA and THE UNCROWNED, as well as FATHOMLESS SKYWALKER’s 'Dystopia Survivors', found on the band’s debut album Anthems of the Resilient. He’s joined by executive advisor Mr.EYEGAGO, frontman of AILIFDOPA, who frequently provides advice and direction to FATHOMLESS SKYWALKER on their adventures. The track itself also sees the band reunite with Freddy (Serenity In Murder) for the orchestral composition, and Hiro of Studio Prisoner (Unlucky Morpheus, Nocturnal Bloodlust, Cystal Lake) for production, mixing and mastering.

FATHOMLESS SKYWALKER are no strangers to the world of sake. In fact, they even have their beer ‘FATHOMLESS VOYAGE IPA’, brewed in Tokyo and inspired by the band and their many drunken adventures. Fittingly, in SAKEKAGURA’s music video, each member is introduced with a subtitle related to the sacred drink. The band’s green-haired guitarist Takuma is introduced as ‘Meitei Kyoujyu’ (The Drunken Mad Emperor Beast), drummer TETSU as ‘Shuten Bouzu’ (The Sake-Drinking Monk), new adventurer NINO as ‘Suiken Hanshi’ (The Intoxicated Swordmaster), and lastly vocalist Chihiro as ‘Saketoke no Miko’ (The Sake Offering Priestess).

With SAKEKAGURA, FATHOMLESS SKYWALKER invite listeners to raise a cup not only to celebration, but to impermanence, fellowship, and the shared journey itself. As the new year begins, the voyage continues. Kanpai!

Reflecting the band’s long-standing connection to alcohol-fuelled adventure, FATHOMLESS SKYWALKER collaborated with Metal Master Brewing Tokyo to create FATHOMLESS VOYAGE IPA, an original craft beer inspired by the band’s signature song “Pirates of the Fathomless Sea.” This refreshing American-style IPA features mint and pink pepper notes, evolving in aroma and flavour as it warms, never tasting quite the same with each sip. Through an anonymous online presence, blank paper absorbs the anxieties and negativity of its listeners and responds with unfinished musical fragments that audiences collectively choose and complete, resulting in co-created sonic prescriptions. Composed of multiple entities including C45P3R and T3R354, with additional humanoid presences known as Hazama appearing in live settings, blank paper presents bpm not as entertainment, but as a functional answer to the emotional fractures of the present. Yoroi Shin Den Samurai Troopers is a sequel Yoroi Den Samurai Troopers, a TV anime produced by Sunrise that aired from April 1988 to March 1989, and was released in the West as Samurai Troopers and Ronin Warriors. FIRST CONTACT is the epic new project led by Japan’s RYU, best known as the creative force behind cyber-trance metal innovators BLOOD STAIN CHILD. Free from the constraints of genre, the project boldly goes where progressive rock structures, metal hooks, expansive synth work and cinematic atmosphere collide.

2025 has been a standout year for STRAIGHT BACK FORWARD. The band centres around guitarist masasucks (Fullscratch, the HIATUS, Radiots, Puffy, Team Shachi, J Band, and more) and Joshua (NEATZ), and is joined by a rotating cast of heavy-hitters from Japan’s punk scene who jump into the lineup whenever their schedules allow.

In 2025 their debut single ‘Don’t Back Down / Haunted Home’ was released through London label JPU Records, and lead track ‘Don’t Back Down’ landed on more than 200 Spotify playlists. To mark the moment, the band dropped a live video of the track, filmed at Shinjuku ACB on 9 October 2025 when they supported Dizzy Sunfist and GOOD4NOTHING.

With momentum building fast, STRAIGHT BACK FORWARD look set for an even bigger 2026. Watch this space.

Previous guests at Japan Underground have included Otoboke Beaver, [Alexandros] and FACT, all before they became massive names, and January’s event is set to be another milestone with the addition of mikina from ExWHYZ. Her group’s latest single ‘DON’T CRY’ features Japanese EDM unit DONGROSSO and its music video has already been played over one million times within a month of its release. Additionally, mikina has gone viral on TikTok and other platforms several times with a video of her whimsically working the tills at Tower Records in Japan, with messages such as “Is this a dream?”, “Every time I see this I’m a little more stunned”, and “this is so cute”.

ExWHYZ’s core message is to “dance your dance”, and with its origins firmly in electronic dance music, it’s only natural for its members to be avid DJs too. This will be the first time mikina has performed a DJ set outside of Japan, and although she yet to tell us what she has planned, we fully expect it to get you dancing, your own way. Additionally, other members from ExWHYZ will also be present, possibly dancing their own dance too.

Additional to mikina, JPU Records staff will be DJing, like with every event, playing a large selection of rock, metal, visual-kei and anime favourites, along with requests from the audience to make sure the vibes hit hard.

This time the Japanese music party lands in the brand-new Marshall Lounge at The Kings Arms in Hanwell, mere metres from Marshall Amps’ first shop, and ground zero for modern rock ’n roll. The neighbourhood hums with legend: The Rolling Stones forged their classic lineup just down the road, giants like Eric Clapton, Ginger Baker and Freddie Mercury once prowled these streets, and it’s a stone’s throw from JPU Records’ HQ, making it the perfect place for Japan Underground to start the new year with a bang.

To reach The Kings Arms (Google Maps link) you can take the Elizabeth line to Hanwell Station (please note that only trains bound for Heathrow stop at Hanwell, and the last train into central London departs at 23:33). Additionally, from Ealing Broadway Station (central line, district line, Elizabeth line) you can take a bus to Hanwell Broadway in under 15 mins, either using the E8 from bus stop F directly outside the station, or SL8 or 483 from bus stop K which is a few minutes’ walk southeast from the station.

“Rock my heart” was recorded during WENDY’s studio sessions with two-time Grammy Award winning producer Marc Whitmore, who connected with the band after Skye boldly sent him WENDY’s early demoes during the pandemic. Inspired by the raw, youthful rock and roll energy pulsing through every track, Whitmore signed on to record the band’s debut album “Don’t waste my YOUTH”. The record will finally be released digitally as a deluxe edition on 26 November, collecting all the songs captured during the Whitmore sessions for the very first time.

'Rock my heart' has also been picked up by Spotify’s editorial playlist New Music Wednesday, which, along with an accompanying podcast, highlights the top new releases from Japan. It's also been added to Rock Strike Japan, a playlist for “J-Rock acts who have broken the boarder and are making global impact”, and Rock The World featuring cover stars YUNGBLUD and Aerosmith.

Adding even more momentum to WENDY’s breakthrough year, “Rock my heart” has been selected for Spotify’s New Music Wednesday editorial playlist, which spotlights the most important new releases from Japan each week, along with its accompanying podcast. The track also lands on Rock Strike Japan, celebrating J-Rock artists making a global impact.

With a roaring new single, a powerful UK debut, and a long-awaited album on the horizon, WENDY are stepping confidently into the international spotlight.

The group has appeared at "WACK in the UK", first held in November 2023 at The Underworld in Camden, London and has since held six events. Their dance music–driven live performances, known for both unity and freedom, have been well received by local fans. ExWHYZ will now take this momentum into their first UK tour.

The tour will begin at The Fleece in Bristol on 29 January, followed by The Kings Arms in Manchester on 30 January, and the tour final will be held on Sunday, 1 February, at The Underworld in Camden, a key venue for both the event series and the group’s overseas history.

About ExWHYZ:

ExWHYZ was formed in June 2022 by the members of EMPiRE under the concept “Dance your Dance.”

They debuted in August 2022 with “Wanna Dance”, produced by Shinichi Osawa, followed by their first album “xYZ” in November and their second album “xANADU” in April 2023. In May 2023, they held their first solo concert at Nippon Budokan.

The group has worked with creators such as Shinichi Osawa, Hidefumi Kenmochi, Seiho, Shin Sakiura, Miru Shinoda and Kento Yamada, and 80KIDZ. Their dance music–based sound and energetic live shows have earned high praise.

The night will once again deliver a full-throttle mix of Japanese rock, punk, and J-pop anthems DJ’ed until late, alongside live performances from some of Japan’s most exciting new acts.

The first show takes place at The Victoria, Birmingham on Saturday 15 November, followed by The Water Rats, King’s Cross, London on Monday 17 November.

Making their UK debut are rising Japanese rock stars WENDY, fresh from the British vinyl release of their album Don’t waste my YOUTH. The teenage band has been hailed by Billboard US for “bringing rock to a new generation,” and worked with Grammy Award-winning producer Marc Whitmore (Jon Batiste We Are, The Black Keys Let’s Rock) on their first album – impressive for such a young band.

Joining them are post-grunge trio I SEE ORANGE, one of the latest signings to JPU Records, the label originally born out of Japan Underground more than a decade ago. The band’s 90s-inspired sound has already struck a chord online, with nearly half a million views across their YouTube videos. Their latest single, Doll Guts, is the perfect audio treat for Halloween.

First launched in 2010, Japan Underground quickly became a hub for fans of Japanese music as a place to headbang, mosh, and connect with like-minded enthusiasts. Many of its early performers went on to major success, and even a few British music icons played surprise sets alongside their friends from Japan. Fifteen years later, Japan Underground remains true to its original mission: to make Japanese music accessible to fans around the world. That’s why, even now, tickets are kept at an unbelievably low price. Great music should never be out of reach.

To celebrate, WENDY will hit Los Angeles with five back-to-back shows in October before heading to the UK in November. The announcement lands alongside their powerful new single 'Pledge of Love' and its music video, out today. The track is one of two previously unreleased songs from their sessions with Whitmore.

“I wrote Pledge of Love when I was 18,” explains WENDY frontman Skye. “It’s inspired by Romeo and Juliet. Two people in love, but everyone around them tries to keep them apart. I went through a similar experience back then, and that’s when the song was born. The message is simple: love who you want, and don’t be afraid to show it.”

WENDY have already received acclaim in Japan, having performed at major rock festivals Summer Sonic and METROCK, been featured in both the Japanese and English editions of Billboard, and appeared on NHK World-Japan’s global music program J-MELO.

Skye adds: “I can’t wait to play Pledge of Love live in LA next month. We’ve got such a good connection with California. This will be our second time there, and it feels amazing to finally bring this song to the stage. Japan will always be home, but our dream has always been to share WENDY’s music with the world. This is just the beginning, and we’re ready for it.”

The idea formed in Tokyo in 2020, STRAIGHT BACK FORWARD unites some of the Japanese punk scene’s most respected musicians with London-born vocalist Joshua (NEATZ). The line-up features guitarist and chief songwriter masasucks (FULLSCRATCH, the HIATUS, Radiots, support for Puffy AmiYumi, J-Band), drummer Masack (ex-MY FIRST STORY), and support from bassist Yoshi (GUMX), guitarists T_Wylde (PET), Sugulu (punk club organiser and okonomiyaki shop owner), and frontman Joshua, who provides vocals and lyrics.

“STRAIGHT BACK FORWARD came about out of a shared love of punk rock between two guys from opposite sides of the world,” explains Joshua. “‘Don’t Back Down’ is kind of just about that, getting on stage, raised fists and playing anthems to the people who love the same music we do. Doesn’t matter if you’re Japanese, British or anything, the music makes us who we are”

Guitarist masasucks adds: “This release takes us back to our roots, a reminder of the punk rock scene from the 90s. Hopefully this reaches a new audience and inspires another generation to keep the flame alive and to never back down!

Despite forming during the height of the global pandemic, STRAIGHT BACK FORWARD quickly built momentum with their fearless positivity and raw sound. Their independently released demo in 2025 gained international attention from underground labels and media, paving the way for today’s official debut on UK-based JPU Records.

With support growing in Tokyo and worldwide, the band continues to throw themselves into live shows while carving out a sound that is direct, energetic, and uncompromising. It’s punk rock in its purest form.

In total, today sees 27 lynch. tracks released digitally. Their third and fourth indie albums THE AVOIDED SUN and SHADOWS have been completely re-recorded and sounding fresher than ever, which EP BRINGER collates deep cuts from the band’s discography, along with their new song from which the EP receives its name. lynch.’s first batch of retake releases occurred at the end of April with GREEDY DEAD SOULS, UNDERNEATH THE SKIN and GOD ONLY KNOWS.

The title expands upon NoGoD’s first best-of release, VOYAGE (2015). The “Le:” plays on the Japanese ambiguity between “L” and “R,” which can also be read as “Re: VOYAGE”, a reply, or a return to the themes of their earlier work. At the same time, it nods to the French phrase “Le voyage de ma vie” (“the journey of my life”), an apt reflection of the band’s 20-year journey.

Le: VOYAGE also debuts a brand-new track, “I Can’t Say Goodbye”, written and recorded exclusively for this release. With its aggressive structure, commanding chorus, and crushing riffs, the song underlines NoGoD’s unshakable determination and offers  proof that their journey is far from over (as if there was ever any doubt).

Some will have doodles on from the member featured in it, some won't, but whatever one you get guarantees that member signing your tour flyer. As always with our ASP cheki events, there are some rules. For this event each transaction is limited to a single cheki. Once you purchase your cheki and get your tour flyer signed you can queue again to get another cheki. Cheki are priced at £15 each.

Tokyo’s rising rock band WENDY have been featured by Billboard US, appeared on NHK World-Japan’s global music program J-MELO, and performed at SUMMER SONIC and METROCK, two of Japan’s biggest rock festivals. Formed during Japan’s strict COVID-19 lockdowns while still in their teens, WENDY quickly earned a reputation for revitalising rock ’n’ roll for a new generation. Their raw demos landed them a publishing deal with Sony Music Publishing and caught the attention of Grammy Award-winning producer Marc Whitmore (Jon Batiste “We Are”, The Black Keys “Let’s Rock”). Whitmore was so impressed he produced their debut album himself, recorded live in just nine days with no edits, capturing the band’s unfiltered energy. The sessions were even featured in Sound & Recording Magazine.

Originally released in Japan, the debut album now arrives in the UK for the first time as an extended vinyl edition, featuring two previously unreleased tracks: “Pull Me In” and the powerful “Pledge of Love”. The former being released today digitally ahead of the album’s overseas digital release, also on 13 October.

WENDY will also mark the release with their first show in London, taken place at The Water Rats on 17 November 2025. They’ll be joined by grunge rock trio I SEE ORANGE and DJs from JPU Records spinning Japanese rock and metal tracks all night. BA-BY (pronounced 'Barbie;) sees the group twist the idea of "cuteness" into something both carefree and unhinged, in true ASP style. Its music video marks the debut of newest member iKO MUGENNOKANATA (formerly of BiS) and delivers the chaotic spirit fans expect, with the group’s twins beating each-other senseless AI-style, members’ faces being gleefully squashed by their bandmates, and a finale that sends ASP members diving off a bridge in a real-life bungee jump.

Previous guests of Japan Matsuri include Britain’s Got Talent finalist Tonikaku, Joji Hirota and the London Taiko Drummers, and Otsu Kagura Troupe, who presented their spectacular ancient Shinto performance of Iwami Kagura.

Showcasing Japanese culture in the UK, Japan Matsuri has attracted a loyal audience of Londoners, the Japanese community and other visitors, families and friends each year since 2009 (at Spitalfields in 2009 & 2010, at County Hall in 2011, and at Trafalgar Square since 2012) and has established itself as a symbol of the long-standing bonds (Kizuna 絆) between Japan and the UK.

The festival takes place from 10am – 8pm and is arranged by volunteers with the support of the Mayor of London, the Greater London Authority, Westminster Council, The Japan Association, the Japanese Chamber of Commerce, the Nippon Club, Japan Society, the Japan Foundation and the Embassy of Japan.

“Rerise” showcases BACK-ON’s signature J-rock sound, honed through their work on iconic franchises such as GUNDAM and KAMEN RIDER. The track blends catchy pop hooks with up-tempo rock riffs that burst with energy. 2025 marks the 20th anniversary of BACK-ON’s major label debut. As part of the celebrations, the duo will headline two special shows under the banner ANIMANIA, one at Osaka’s HOLY MOUNTAIN and the other at Tokyo’s Daikanyama UNIT. These exclusive performances will feature only songs from their extensive catalogue that have served as theme songs for anime, video games, and Japan’s action-packed tokusatsu TV series.

Fusing the raw spirit of Nirvana, the fierce energy of Joan Jett, and the modern edge of The Warning, 'Doll Guts' is a melodic yet menacing grunge anthem that walks the line between cute and creepy. It’s a sound that's nostalgic and fresh all at once, fuelling anticipation for the band’s upcoming debut album due later this year.

"Doll Guts is about the discomfort of being human," explains lead vocalist and bassist Giselle Medina. "It’s an expressive release of frustration toward unwanted emotions, wrapped in a contrast of the sweet and the grotesque. Hence the title; it’s cute, but a bit messed up."

The track opens with the chilling sound of a real vintage music box, an heirloom from Medina’s family in Mexico that sets the tone with its eerie charm. “It reminded me of old horror movies. When we recorded ‘Doll Guts’ the thing wouldn’t stop playing, it was like it had a life of its own…!” she laughs. “Cameron [guitarist] was terrified.”

Drummer Charlie Hart mirrored the melody on glockenspiel in the song’s bridge, intensifying its ghostly, fairytale-like atmosphere. Combined with crushing guitars and an explosive chorus, “Doll Guts” has already become a standout in the band’s high-energy live performances.

I SEE ORANGE turned heads earlier this summer with four sets at Brighton’s The Great Escape Festival, a set at Festival on a Farm and main stage of Minety Music Festival, a lineup which included Fun Lovin’ Criminals, Brand New Heavies and Toploader. Their previous singles, “Feebleness” and “Mental Rot”, have already amassed over 260,000 YouTube views, signalling a growing cult following for their off-kilter charm and unfiltered energy.

Now, the band announces their signing to JPU Records, a major move that sees the label, known for championing Japanese rock and metal, welcoming its first non-Japanese artist.

I’m truly sorry for the sudden announcement at this timing.

Ever since I first encountered WACK eight years ago, I’ve loved this company more than anything. But over time, I began to feel, deep down, that I couldn’t keep up emotionally with the changes in WACK. I realized I might not be moving forward anymore, and continuing in ASP like that became something I couldn’t forgive myself for.

I wanted to do anything and everything with my beloved members, even if it killed me. I thought I could push myself, but sometimes my body just wouldn’t move, and so I decided to walk a life outside of WACK.

Being part of WACK, performing as ASP, through the best days and the worst days, above all, the time spent with our “Narazumono” (ROGUES) fans was something I cherished dearly.
Your constant joy and sorrow alongside mine were the most precious thing to me, and the number one reason I could keep going despite feeling unstable.

You taught me that working hard for someone else can be so much fun and give so much meaning to life. Thank you truly. I’m sure that in the future, I’ll remember our “Narazumono” (ROGUES) and those memories will make me happy, lonely, and deeply thoughtful.

To all the staff who have been involved, to the members, and to everyone who has met ASP, thank you for finding me and giving me a place to belong.

It’s been 10 years since I jumped into this world,

Throughout this time, I’ve faced this career with all my heart, supported by so many incredible people.

Whenever I felt like stopping, it was the members I love, who always give their all no matter what, who lifted me up.
It was all of you who support ASP and YUMEKA NOWKANA?.
It was my gratitude to WACK for giving me the name “YUMEKA NOWKANA?”.
Because of all of this, I’ve been able to overcome so much, again and again.

But now, in facing my life and my heart, I’ve realised it’s become difficult to continue in this form.

About Cheki:

Cheki are a type of polaroid style photo that is popular in Japan. The VIP ticket already includes 2 cheki opportunities. Further opportunities, as well as opportunities for general ticket holders, will be available by purchasing cheki tickets from the mech stand during the cheki event times. Each cheki ticket purchased will allow for one cheki to be taken with a member of the ticket holder.

Best known as the guitarist and vocalist of popular Japanese rock band BACK-ON, KENJI03 has earned recognition both in Japan and internationally. BACK-ON’s music has been featured in some of Japan’s most iconic franchises, including KAMEN RIDER, GUNDAM, and FAIRY TAIL. Under his songwriting pseudonym Hi-yunk, KENJI03 has also penned a string of hit songs for artists such as Kumi Koda, LiSA, and TVXQ.

In November 2024, KENJI03 met guitar legend Paul Reed Smith, founder of PRS Guitars, during a PRS event at Shibuya Stream Hall. Alongside UZ from SPYAIR, he hosted a talk session attended by Smith himself, who later signed KENJI03’s guitar. KENJI03 shared photos from the moment on social media, captioned with: “I Met God 🔥”.

KENJI03 joins Japanese guitarists Toru Yamashita (ONE OK ROCK), Kanami Tōno (BAND-MAID), TOMO-ZO (Gacharic Spin), UZ (SPYAIR) and Rio (AstroGuitar / RIZE) as Official PRS Guitarists.

Fans won’t have to wait long to feel the fury live: ASP bring “BA-BY” to UK stages for the very first time this September. The tour kicks off at The Fleece in Bristol (22 Sep), storms through a sold-out Kings Arms in Manchester (23 Sep), and wraps up at The Underworld in London (25 Sep), along with a speculated UK festival appearance and other surprises in the works.  With only limited tickets left, this is the perfect chance to witness what Age Factory, producer of coupling track ‘Get New MIRAI’ calls a “new stage” of ASP. The band recently welcomed new iKO MUGENNOKANATA (formelry of BiS), and has just this week announced the return of member NAMELESS to the group's activities.

ASP member CCCCCC, who’s been studying English so she can interact with fans on the tour, comments:

“Our first UK tour starts this September! We’ve been to London a few times for ‘WACK in the UK’, and each time, we were so happy to see people coming from different countries to meet us. Singing and dancing together with ASP’s music showed us how amazing our fans are. We’re really thankful. Because of you, ASP feels strong and unstoppable!

“This will be our first time going to the UK as an 8-member group. We hope to spend a fun and special night with you!

“When I first heard our new song ‘BA-BY’, I thought, 'I can’t wait to sing this with everyone at a live show!' Right now, we’re getting ready every day, excited to perform this song live in the UK for the first time. We hope you enjoy the new and powerful ASP! It’s like a dream to be able to bring our music straight to you. See you on the UK tour!”

BA-BY is produced, composed and arranged by Yohji Igarashi, known for his work with rappers HIYADAM and Daoko. On the production, he comments,

“Although the song has a hard sound, I aimed to create something that would allow each member’s personality to shine through. A key highlight is how their powerful individual vocals hold their own against the intense sound.”

Lyrics were written by Pecori, whose work with Japanese rap group Number_i’s tracks ‘GOAT’ and ‘INZM’ has racked up over 200 million views on YouTube. He comments,

“When writing the lyrics I focused heavily on ASP’s biggest strength: their punkish ferocity! I imagined a gremlin-like character that, despite its cute appearance, will mess you up if you underestimate it. That kind of vibe. It's gonna get your blood-pumping and body-moving!”

The single’s chaotic collage-style artwork was designed by experimental visual artist JACKSON kaki, capturing the unpredictable charm of ASP as well as the themes woven throughout BA-BY.

Known for their rebellious spirit and high-energy performances, ASP’s name stands for “ANTi SOCiETY PUNKS.” While rooted in punk rock, the group seamlessly incorporates elements of hyperpop, electro, and rap. In past releases, they have also collaborated with Sam from WARGASM, the U.K.-based extreme rock duo.

ASP first performed in the U.K. at Camden’s underground live venue The Underworld in November 2023 as part of the “WACK in the U.K” event. Since then, they’ve appeared in all six iterations of the event, captivating local fans with their intense, all-out live performances that transcend genres and language barriers.

This upcoming tour marks their first solo overseas tour, and includes new cities not previously visited during past WACK in the U.K. events. Fans in Bristol and Manchester will have their first chance to experience ASP live, while longtime listeners in London can look forward to reconnecting with the group.

Additionally, ASP is planning a special event in London on 20 September, with another free-entry performance scheduled for 21 September. Details to be announced soon.
