Tatkal ticket booking scheme of Indian Railways is a very much needed service for those who are travelling on emergency situations. But getting these tickets which are only released 2 days prior to the traveling date is a very tough task. In this post, I’ll share some tricks which can really be useful while booking tatkal tickets from IRCTC website.

Tips for Booking Online Tatkal Tickets from IRCTC

For saving time while booking tickets from irctc website with automated form filling hack, follow the below mentioned steps.

First of all, Use Firefox and install this autofill addon.

After installing this addon, restart Firefox.

Enter all the details like what you do in a normal booking, with all the passenger name,age,train number,ticket type, quota, station code,payment options, mobile number etc.

For saving this as a new profile for automated auto filling, you’ll have to right click on any of the text box. But IRCTC website have blocked this option and you’ll find an error as shown below.

To bypass this error, copy paste this script into the browser address bar and hit enter.

After this hack, you’ll be able to right click on irctc website without any error.

Now right click on any of the text box [where you wrote your name] and click on “Add Complete form as profile” option.

Now a new window will pop up, showing all the values you entered. Click on Ok.

Refresh the OuickBook page, and press the combination keys “ALT + J” to automatically refill the page with the previously entered values.

By this trick, you can save some valuable time while booking your tatkal tickets at 8 a.m.

Tips to keep in mind during actual booking

To book online tatkal railway tickets from IRCTC, you should login to irctc.co.in website before 7:45 because after that the server will be in its full limits. After logging in, try to maintain your session alive by navigating through “Plan my Travel” and “Quickbook” links every two minutes.

Once the time at IRCTC website shows 08:00 on quickbook page. Press Alt and J keys together for autofilling the form and click QuickBook. You’ll be redirected to your payment processor and make sure you’ve disabled the High security pin option in your netbanking acccount for time being to speed up the payment processing time.

Once finished, you’ll be redirected back to IRCTC website showing your ticket status.

The above mentioned trick, hack or scripts for IRCTC doesn't guarantee that you' will get your tatkal tickets confirmed. For that, you just have to be more fast than others and ofcourse lucky!

The Microsoft Download Manager enables you to download files from the Internet in a more reliable and faster way than using a browser alone. Using the Download Manager makes it easier to download large files such as an application or multimedia files. Also, it has resume support so that you can continue downloading files from where it left off the last time.

I tested it with a couple of sites and I managed to get very good download speeds using Microsoft Download Manager, than using IE.

Tip: Increasing the maximum number of connections improves the download speed.

By default it’s set to "Use browser settings", which caused the following error when downloading a file. I had to enable the No proxy option to make the download work.

Overall it’s a nice little download manager, and it would be great if future builds include browser integration (with IE, at least) support.

Google launches URL shortener website with stats tracking Google has launched a new portal for its URL Shortener service. This service was previously only available with Google toolbars and other services like Feedburner. There are some spin-off by 3rd parties which have browser extensions and bookmarklets for the short URL service. Goo.gl website is now active and allows you to create short URLs. Features of Google URL Shortening website § I liked the simple layout. Just enter the URL and create the short URL. The threadbare nature of Goo.gl made me think of Google getting back to its roots. § Statistics for all the short URL you create can be tracked for how many people click on it. § Beyond that it also gives details like browser used, place and other details about people clicking on the shortened URL. § Considering it is Google, I believe that it will be a lot safer and secure. Google also plans to tackle spam with the same technology that is used to keep spam out of Gmail. What next for Goo.gl? Google has announced that it will soon release a API for Google short URLs. This will obviously make it more useful to be used with 3rd party applications. Google might be working on a new social network or rather a social layer which it wants to include across its services. If its true then a short URL service with tracking tools just might be a good start. Do you think bit.ly and other URL shortening services have anything to fear from Google? I think they have a lot to fear from Google URL shortening service a year down from today.

National Do Not Call List (NDNC) :

The primary objective of the National Do Not Call Registry (NDNC Registry) is to curb Unsolicited Commercial Communication (UCC). UCC has been defined as "any message, through telecommunications service, which is transmitted for the purpose of informing about,or soliciting or promoting any commercial transaction in relation to goods, investments or services which a subscriber opts not to receive, but, does not include, ----

(i) any message (other than promotional message) relating to a service or financial transaction under a specific contract between the parties to such contract ; or

(ii) any messages relating to charities, national campaigns or natural calamities transmitted on the directions of the Government or agencies authorized by it for the said purpose;

(iii) messages transmitted, on the directions of the Government or any authority or agency authorized by it, in the interest of the sovereignty and integrity of India, the security of the State, friendly relations with foreign States, public order, decency or morality."

The NDNC Registry will be a data base having the list of all telephone numbers of the subscribers who do not want to receive UCC.After the establishment of NDNC registry, Telephone subscriber (Landline or mobile) who does not wish to receive UCC, can register their telephone number with their telecom service provider for inclusion in the NDNC. Telecom Service Provider shall upload the telephone number to the NDNC within 45 days of receipt. The Telemarketer will have to verify their calling telephone numbers list with the NDNC registry before making a call. To discourage the telemarketers who make calls to the numbers registered in Do Not Call List, a provision has been made whereby Rs.500/ - shall be payable by the telemarketer to the service provider for every first unsolicited commercial communication (UCC) and Rs.1000/- shall be payable for subsequent UCC. There is a provision for disconnection of the telemarketer telephone number / telecom resource if the UCC is sent even after levy of Rs.500/- & Rs.1000/- tariff. In case of non-compliance to the Telecom Unsolicited Commercial Communications Regulations, 2007, the Service Provider is also liable to pay an amount by way of financial disincentive, not exceeding Rs.5000/- for first non-compliance of the regulation and in case of second or subsequent such non-compliance, an amount not exceeding Rs.20,000/- for each such non-compliance.

For customers who would like to register/de-register their request for NDNC registry may dial 1909 or SMS to 1909 with keywords 'START DND' for registration and 'STOP DND' for de-registration.
