Shah Rukh Khan, the proud owner of the Kolkata Indian Premier League (IPL) team ‘Kolkata Knight Riders’, is in a dilemma. Will he perform on the field at the IPL event, or will he be best placed with his antics in a studio for his new television show ‘Panchavi Pass’? The dates of both shows clash. Advertisers who have been kept out of the IPL arena are gearing up and cornering time slots on ‘Panchavi Pass’.
IPL’s 44-day cricket bonanza flags off on April 18 with 59 T20 matches. ‘Panchavi Pass’ (PP) is SRK’s new quiz show on Star Plus, which begins on the same date. It is to be telecast 8 pm onwards over the weekend. While Star Plus has signed on Airtel as the presenting sponsor for PP, while Airtel’s competitor Vodafone is on board as presenting sponsor for IPL, to be telecast on Sony. This has initiated a battle of sponsorship between the broadcasters as SRK endorses Airtel too.
Despite the lukewarm response to SRK’s ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ (KBC), Khan and Star are gearing up for PP. The show is an adaptation of an international television game show, ‘Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader?’ Incidentally, Bulldog Media and Entertainment has licensed the format from the owner, Mark Burnett Productions. Synergy Adlabs is to produce the show in India.
The prize money on PP is Rs 5 crore, while that of IPL is several times more. Media agencies buying air time slots told TOI that PP will be set in a classroom-like ambience with five and 10-year-old kids as part of the audience. If a contestant is stuck, he can refer to the audience who will act as his classmates. Cut to IPL. In this case, cricket on field will follow only after entertainment antics of fellow Bollywood personalities, and sizzling ‘item numbers’, both on and off field.

There is a shocking news for the television buffs. Shahrukh Khan has walked out of the Star Plus most eagerly awaited reality show ‘Kya Aap Paanchvi Pass Se Tez Hain.’

Apparently, SRK had creative differences with STAR TV and Synergy over couple of issues. Since the concept is taken from a hit American show ‘Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader,’ he wanted the conversation to be partly in English and partly in Hindi. But the organizers wanted it to be strictly in Hindi. Such small issues turned bigger and had made him to walk out of the show. The show is going to be aired soon and the questions are already displayed on Star Plus.

He had a discrepancy with the Star from the beginning itself. If one remembers Shahrukh was absent from the promotion of the show. The differences started from the day when he failed to answer some fifth standard questions and the children present on the set laughed at him. He really took the matter seriously and showed his annoyance. Shahrukh’s walking out of the show is a big blow for the Star as many advertisers had invested on it. TV buffs was eagerly waiting to see him on small screen after KBC 2.

Yet another version of “Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader” a Fox TV show is being replicated with the name of “Kya aap panchvi pass se tez hain” in India. Originally started from United States the show has been a great hit and been replicated in many foreign countries with same or modified titles. With a simple format of asking grade school level questions to adults the show is a great hit with a prize money of 5 crore for Indian public. The indian version known as “Kya aap paanchvi pass se tez hain” is not been started yet but the enthusiasm and excitement is piling up for the Indian audiences.Talking of the Game structure for “Kya aap paanchvi pass se tez hain” is pretty unclear in the entertainment arena the darken air will clear only when show goes on air. But being hosted by king Shahruk khan the game is a must hit and will record all the TRP’s in India.

Will “Kya aap paanchvi pass se tez hain” format be same as “Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader”!

Talking of “Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader” game format in United states is like a game played by a single contestant who earns money by answering simple trivial question and go up the money ladder. The contestant is presented and entered in textbook for the grade level for the particular question. The question formats are some true/false or some questions to be answered without any options. Moving up the money ladder with each question a final question at each level moves them to the next level of the game show.

At any point of time contestant can quit the game show by seeing the question. But for final question the contestant have to quit after seeing the subject, if they agree to see the question then they have to answer it. Adding excitement to the game show are five “classmates” who secretly writes there answer for each question and some times the host of the show creates tension in the mind of contestant by mismatching the answers of classmate and contestant. But classmates are there for the help of contestant. Contestant can choose one Classmate to answer any two question for him as a help. And then a new classmate has to be selected.

Two “cheats” are provided by the selected classmate and each can be used only once. The contestant can also “peek” at the classmate paper and can see the answer of selected classmate before they give their own (once contestant peek then they must have to answer). Also contestant have the facility to “copy” the classmate answer, once he copies the answer is automatically locked.

In addition to these a “save” option is provided to the contestant which is in the play once contestant give their first wrong answer. If classmate of the contestant have written the right answer then he can save the contestant otherwise contestant loses the game and wins nothing. Nothing means if they haven't answered the first five questions correctly and reaches a safe first zone in money ladder. The cheat is not allowed for the final question of every level. once all the three cheats are used the classmate goes back to the group and contestant is left with no option of selecting another classmate. But to create tension in the environment classmates continue to write the answers. And before leaving the game show by quitting or answering incorrectly the contestant have to profess to the camera “I am not smarter than a fifth grader.”

This was the format of the famous game show “Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader” and everyone is guessing what will be the format of Indian version “Kya aap paanchvi pass se tez hain”.
