With Deshaun Watson becoming a capable starter for the Cleveland Browns, questions have arisen regarding whether that might lead to backup quarterback Shedeur Sanders being traded.

The Browns are not expected to trade Sanders for multiple reasons, according to Jonathan Jones of The Athletic. The team still believes in his growth and ability, and he is under contract for another two seasons after this one. In addition, Browns general manager Andrew Berry is said to have a “great affection” for Sanders.

Sanders’ contract status is important, as Watson will be a free agent at the end of the season. He has certainly rebuilt his value this season, but whether the Browns would actually want to bring him back is a different question.

Sanders likely hoped to be starting by this point of the season, and had reason to think it might happen early on. Watson, however, has played well enough to keep the job, with the Browns 3-2 in his five starts so far. Sanders, however, struggled last season, though he did seem to have made some improvement during the preseason.

There had been some suggestions that a quarterback-needy team could try to trade for Sanders before the Nov. 10 trade deadline. The Browns are unlikely to pick up the phone.

The Philadelphia Eagles have no plans to place quarterback Jalen Hurts on injured reserve as he deals with a superficial blood clot that will keep him sidelined indefinitely, reports ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport.

The team has allegedly not discussed the IR option, which would require a minimum four-week absence, even as Hurts remains out while he and the organization gather more information and seek additional medical opinions.

Hurts’ health remains the primary focus. The Eagles believe the clot is treatable, and the quarterback is working with medical staff to determine the best course of action. Any decision on when he returns will come from his medical team, and the Eagles intend to follow that guidance.

However, Schefter and Rapoport indicate there is still a possibility he could eventually land on IR if further evaluation points in that direction.

The situation developed after a follow-up ultrasound revealed movement in the small clot, leading the team to rule Hurts out for Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers. Treatment for such clots often involves blood thinners once movement occurs, which typically prevents players from competing. A moderate dose can require at least six weeks, while a worsening clot might extend that to roughly three months.

Some within the organization view Hurts as week-to-week, though league doctors who have not examined him have estimated a potential absence of several weeks, with one noting it could reach six depending on size, location, and further evaluation.

In Hurts’ absence, Tanner McKee is set to start against Carolina. The Eagles have also adjusted their quarterback depth, promoting rookie Cole Payton and signing Joe Milton from the Dallas Cowboys’ practice squad.

The development adds to a challenging stretch for Philadelphia, which has already navigated other significant injuries and roster changes this season. The team continues to prioritize a measured approach centered on Hurts’ long-term well-being as more medical details emerge.

Tennessee Titans CEO Burke Nihill publicly apologized to fans on Friday for the team’s 0-5 start to the season while stating that the organization remains fully behind head coach Robert Saleh and general manager Mike Borgonzi.

Speaking with authorization from controlling owner Amy Adams-Strunk, Nihill addressed the ongoing disappointment after an extended stretch of poor results.

Since the 2023 season, the Titans have managed only six total victories, including just three since Borgonzi arrived prior to 2025. The current drought includes a seven-game losing streak that began in Week 17 of last season and has continued through the present 0-5 start, during which the club has lost 33 of its previous 39 games.

“The first thing I would say back to the fans is just that we’re sorry,” Nihill told ESPN. “There’s nobody in this building that doesn’t feel a sense of grief about it, because not only are we fans of the team as well, but we feel the sense of responsibility to deliver. And we’ve let our fans down because football is supposed to be fun. I think it starts on the field and the state of the franchise. We’re 0-5, and that’s not nearly good enough. It hasn’t been for a while.”

Even with the winless record, Nihill voiced confidence in the present leadership.

“I personally feel a sense of stability,” he said. “I believe that Mike Borgonzi and Robert Saleh are ultimately going to get this team out of the woods and restore it to competitive football. The train is on the tracks. It just hasn’t picked up momentum, but it will. I can confidently say this organization is in a place where there is organizational belief in Mike, in Robert, and they absolutely have all the support they need to get this train moving and moving faster.”

Under Saleh, the offense has averaged a league-worst 246.4 yards and 11.6 points per game while the defense has forced only two turnovers. The coach has maintained that the team is following a rigorous, detailed process through the adversity and expects growth to follow.

The franchise has also undergone frequent leadership changes, cycling through a coach or general manager annually since 2022 and recently parting with several senior business-side executives.

Nihill noted that the organization can stay flexible in non-football areas while preserving stability on the field, as the approaching opening of a new Nissan Stadium heightens the need for results.

NBA commissioner Adam Silver left team owners with the impression at last month’s Board of Governors meeting that a Seattle expansion franchise is no longer a lock, according to multiple ownership sources cited in an ESPN report by Brian Windhorst.

Silver also reintroduced Mexico City as a possible destination. Owners were told that at least one Mexico City-based group had approached the league’s expansion adviser, PJT Partners, with a plan to launch a team and develop a new arena district, an idea that reportedly caught the league’s attention.

The development comes as the NBA continues its formal exploration of expansion focused on Las Vegas and Seattle, with a self-imposed end-of-2026 decision deadline approaching.

Silver has not guaranteed that the league will add two teams simultaneously, as it did in 1988, 1989, and 1995, or that it will expand at all.

Las Vegas appears firmly on track. Silver is described as a full-go there, with a decision on a winning bid potentially weeks away amid a competitive process involving three known groups and expansion-related costs that could exceed $10 billion.

Seattle’s known offers, led by the group headed by Seattle Kraken and Climate Pledge Arena owner Samantha Holloway through One Roof Sports and Entertainment, are substantially lower. The league is not yet satisfied with those bids, though Climate Pledge Arena is viewed as nearly ready, with Silver previously noting the facility could host games on short notice.

The SuperSonics played in Seattle from 1967 until their 2008 relocation to Oklahoma City.

Baltimore Ravens safety Kyle Hamilton pushed back Thursday on teammate Marlon Humphrey’s account of his reaction before a game-sealing interception of Atlanta Falcons quarterback Tua Tagovailoa in Week 5.

Hamilton described Humphrey’s version as “pretty hyperbolic” and clarified that his excitement centered on a defensive opportunity rather than any personal target on the backup quarterback.

In the Ravens’ 30-23 overtime victory, Hamilton intercepted Tagovailoa after Michael Penix Jr. exited with a rib injury.

On his podcast, Humphrey said Hamilton lit up once Tagovailoa entered, recalling that the safety was “like, ‘Tua in the game.’ He was like, ‘He gonna throw me one.’ It was the most excited I’ve probably seen Kyle.”

Humphrey portrayed the moment as Hamilton essentially calling his shot.

Hamilton offered a different framing when asked about the comments.

“I would say the way he presented it was not how I was presented,” he told reporters. “It was more so the defense’s opportunity to go win the game. It doesn’t matter who it was. Could have been a sack, could have been a fourth down stop, could have been a pick.”

LeBron James locked onto the ball the second Tyrese Maxey put it in the air.

Maxey lofted a half-court lob in the first quarter of the 76ers’ preseason finale against the Celtics, and James went up and finished it with a two-handed dunk that got the sellout crowd of 19,746 at Xfinity Mobile Arena on its feet.

James started the play by forcing a turnover on an inbound pass. Maxey, the close friend who helped talk him into joining Philadelphia this summer for his 24th season, pushed the ball and found him. James caught it clean and slammed it home, the kind of transition finish the 76ers have been talking about all preseason.

He finished with eight points, eight rebounds, and seven assists in 25 minutes. The dunk was the moment that stuck. James did the chalk toss before tip, got the big introduction from Matt Cord, and the building responded.

One alley-oop later, he already felt like a crowd favorite.

“This is a connection that we have,” James said afterward, via ESPN. “Some of the best things for us offensively is going to be to get up the floor.”

Philadelphia lost 125-120 in overtime, which doesn’t count for anything. The regular season starts Tuesday in New York against the defending champions, with the home opener set for Thursday against Cleveland.

Tyrese Haliburton is officially back in his bag,

The Indiana Pacers star guard Haliburton went viral during Friday’s preseason game against the Milwaukee Bucks. In the first quarter at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Ind., Haliburton got into it with Bucks guard Ryan Rollins.

Haliburton was underneath the basket trying to get into rebounding position when Rollins gave him a shove to the ground. Rollins was called for a foul on the play, which led to a profane taunt from Haliburton.

The two-time NBA All-Star Haliburton started clapping his hands and then got up to repeatedly tell Rollins, “You a b—h.” Here is the video (but obviously watch out for the bad language).

Haliburton is making his return this season after missing the entire 2025-26 campaign due to an Achilles tear. He put up 17 points and six assists in 20 minutes on Friday, but it was the Bucks who ended up getting the 128-127 victory over the Pacers in overtime.

That was a nice callback though to the classic days of Haliburton openly antagonizing the Bucks during their head-to-head matchups, sometimes even in the playoffs. Milwaukee is not expected to be a playoff team this season after trading away Giannis Antetokounmpo, but Haliburton will clearly still be on their bumpers regardless.

The expansion Golden State Valkyries have quickly become a media darling, but don’t tell that to their star player Gabby Williams.

On Friday, Williams spoke with reporters (ahead of Game 1 of the WNBA Finals against the Atlanta Dream on Saturday). During her media session, Williams was surprisingly combative when asked about the praise that the team has been getting from the press in the wake of their Cinderella run.

“The media’s never respected me,” said Williams. “I’ve never expected them to.

“I’ve never paid any mind to media,” Williams added. “So, if media’s praising me now, I don’t care.”

The 30-year-old forward Williams has emerged as Golden State’s leader and best two-way player during their Finals run. She was an All-Star and the WNBA Defensive Player of the Year runner-up, also averaging a career-high 14.4 points per game.

But Williams has already been in the league since 2018, previously playing for the Chicago Sky and the Seattle Storm. Williams just signed with the Valkyries earlier this year (after the Valkyries were first founded in 2025).

With their WNBA Finals run, Williams and the Valkyries have now been getting a lot of positive press coverage (with Williams herself also earning an All-Defensive First Team selection this season and even getting MVP votes for the first time in her career). But Williams is now effectively choosing to spit in the face of all of that recognition, creating for an interesting contrast with the Valkyries’ opponents in the WNBA Finals.

An official cause of death has surfaced this week for AEW wrestler Pac.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office has determined that Pac died due to bronchial asthma, Edward Lewis of The California Post reported on Friday. Lewis adds that the manner of Pac’s death has officially been ruled as “natural” (with the determination being made after a formal investigation into the British wrestler’s passing).

Pac, whose real name was Benjamin Satterley, died late last month at the age of 40. He first debuted as a pro wrestler back in 2004 and wrestled in WWE from 2012-18.

Eventually, Pac joined AEW (All Elite Wrestling) in 2019. He was the inaugural winner of the AEW International Championship in 2022 and also won three other title belts while wrestling on the AEW circuit.

On Sept. 27, AEW made the heartbreaking announcement that Pac had died. Notably, Pac had wrestled in his final match just one day before his death.

A few days later, we learned some additional details about Pac’s death (including that he had been found dead in his car at a restaurant parking lot). Now a few weeks later, a formal cause of death has emerged for the veteran wrestler.

The Orlando Magic have a new head coach (Sean Sweeney), and they could soon have a new sixth man as well.

Orlando could potentially trade away guard Anthony Black, Brian Windhorst of ESPN reported on Friday. Black is due for an extension, but the Magic currently have an expensive roster and are on the hook to pay about $32 million in luxury tax this season (set to mark the first time that Orlando has been in the tax since 2010).

Windhorst adds that rival NBA teams are watching whether Black will ultimately become available, especially with Orlando being short on draft assets following their 2025 trade for Desmond Bane. You can read Windhorst’s full report on the situation here.

Black, 22, was Orlando’s No. 6 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft. He has since flourished as a sixth man for the Magic and also drew 40 spot starts last season amid injuries to players like Jalen Suggs and Franz Wagner.

As a result, Black had a career year and averaged 15.0 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 3.7 assists in under 30 minutes per game. Now Orlando has until the Oct. 19 deadline to agree to an extension with Black, after which point he would become a restricted free agent next summer.

Last season, the Magic went 45-37 but lost in the first round of the playoffs to the Detroit Pistons (meaning that they still have not won a single playoff series ever since 2010). If Orlando does not believe that the ceiling of their current roster justifies the hefty price tag, Black (and his prodigious athleticism) would certainly become a coveted trade candidate.

The Atlanta Dream star Reese spoke with reporters on Friday ahead of Saturday’s Game 1 of the WNBA Finals against the Golden State Valkyries. During the session, Reese spoke about the recent comments made about her by NBA guard CJ McCollum.

Now playing for the Atlanta Hawks, McCollum praised Reese earlier this week while reacting to the Dream’s WNBA Finals berth. McCollum notably said that, “Atlanta changed when the Queen of the South got here.”

Reese, 24, was the WNBA’s Defensive Player of the Year this season and averaged a career-high 16.4 points to go along with 12.1 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game. Now she is in the WNBA Finals in just her third career season (and first with Atlanta).

The three-time All-Star Reese also played her college ball at LSU (and won a national championship there), giving another fitting layer to the “Queen of the South” moniker. On top of that, Reese has not been afraid to defend her metaphorical crown by confronting any opponent who steps out of line.

Mat Ishbia is calling his shots (plural) ahead of the 2026-27 NBA season.

The Phoenix Suns owner Ishbia appeared this week on CNBC Sport. During the interview, Ishbia previewed the coming season for his team and made two bold predictions.

“I believe that we have a team that can get there,” said Ishbia. “As in, we’re going to make the playoffs, we’re going to win a first [round] playoff series.

“We’re on this trajectory,” Ishbia added. “We’re an ascending young team getting better every day, and we have a superstar in Devin Booker who we’re gonna continue to build around.”

Ishbia might not be too far off as the Suns already exceeded expectations significantly last season. Though very few believed in their team after they parted ways with Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal and instead surrounded Booker with role players, the Suns went 45-37 and clinched an outright top-six playoff seed.

While Phoenix did get swept in the first round by the Oklahoma City Thunder, the foundation certainly appears to be there for them. As for Isbhia, who has owned the Suns since 2023, this marks the same kind of competitive mindset that once led him to decry tanking teams as “losers.”

The Oklahoma City Thunder likely did not expect to wind up in a rights battle when making their top draft pick back in June, but that is exactly what has happened to them roughly four months later.

Spanish club Basket Zaragoza is challenging whether lottery pick Aday Mara is eligible to play in the NBA this season. Mara had played for the club before initially leaving to attend UCLA three years ago, and Zaragoza said they expect to be compensated in exchange for letting him out of his contract.

The Thunder made clear in a statement that they believe Mara is eligible to play in the NBA immediately.

“Aday last played three years of NCAA college basketball and therefore, as advised by the NBA, no clearance from the Spanish team is required for him to play in the NBA,” a Thunder spokesperson said Friday, via Tim MacMahon of ESPN.

FIBA regulations do not require a transfer of club to go from Europe to the NCAA. Zaragoza is using that as their justification, arguing that they still control Mara’s rights because his contract was never actually terminated while playing collegiately.

Mara was the Thunder’s top pick in the draft, going No. 12 overall. The center was a starter on Michigan’s national championship team last season, and he saw his draft stock rise thanks in part to some ridiculous physical measurements.

The Thunder have had some very bad luck with their incoming crop of rookies. It would be quite the situation if their lottery pick wound up stuck in a contractual tug-of-war that the team did not expect to be an issue.

Shohei Ohtani was the talk of the National League Championship Series for all the wrong reasons in 2026, and it prompted him to make a somewhat startling admission about his performance.

Ohtani struggled throughout the NLCS against the Milwaukee Brewers, hitting just 3/13 during the series as his team was shockingly swept. The superstar credited the Brewers for their approach, and outright said they had “exposed” him at times.

“The Brewers were overall strong and a very good team, and it really exposed some of the parts of me as a player, and got to give some credit to that,” Ohtani said through an interpreter, via Buster Olney of ESPN.

One could certainly argue Ohtani is giving his opponents too much credit. He does not have many weaknesses, and there is certainly a case to be made that his injuries were the big problem. Ohtani himself refused to use that as an excuse, though.

On the other hand, Brewers pitchers did strike Ohtani out six times in the series, and they made him look pretty bad doing it. He will clearly have a lot to think about ahead of next season.

Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs appears to have a date circled for his return.

Jacobs will be activated from the Commissioner Exempt list on Monday, according to multiple reports. That would likely make the veteran eligible to play in the Packers’ Week 7 game against the Detroit Lions.

Despite the change, the NFL is keeping its investigation into Jacobs open. That means they could still add additional discipline for Jacobs if new information comes to light.

Jacobs was accused of battery by his ex-girlfriend during the offseason, but settled his outstanding legal issues in September. He has been on the exempt list all season, and it is likely not coincidence that he will be reinstated after six games, which is the typical length of the NFL’s domestic violence suspensions. Jacobs, however, was paid throughout his six-game absence.

If the NFL did choose to retroactively apply a six-game suspension, they would be able to force Jacobs to return the salary from those games. The six-week stint on the exempt list, however, would count as time served toward any suspension.

Jacobs has recently fought to ensure that surveillance footage of the incident remains sealed. The NFL had sought the footage as part of their investigation, but never succeeded in viewing it. That was a major reason Jacobs was never officially suspended over the incident.

A former All-Pro selection, Jacobs is entering his third season with Green Bay. He rushed for 929 yards in 15 games for the team in 2025.

When it comes to quarterback Jalen Hurts’ blood clot, at least one former NFL standout thinks that there is more going on than publicly meets the eye.

Michael Robinson, a former Pro Bowl fullback turned NFL Network analyst, thinks the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback is essentially pulling himself out of games. The reason, Robinson suggests, is to ensure that a lost season in Philadelphia cannot be pinned on him, which he believes the team would have done to justify moving on from Hurts.

“If I’m Jalen Hurts − or anybody in Jalen Hurts’ camp − I’m saying, ‘Well if everybody’s hurt, I’m hurt, too,’ Robinson said on NFL Network, via Nate Davis of USA Today. “To me, it looked like Jalen is kind of getting himself out of the fray so that this lost season … he’s pulling himself out so that this doesn’t look like it’s on me.”

Robinson emphasized that he had no inside knowledge of the situation and was only speculating. The only thing the Eagles have said publicly is that Hurts is dealing with a superficial blood clot and will be out until the issue is fully dealt with.

Hurts’ teammates certainly do not seem to think the quarterback is ducking games. Considering the array of injuries that the Eagles have dealt with, few people would have bought it if the Eagles organization tried to blame him for a bad year, either. While Hurts’ play has left a bit to be desired at times, he is still a Super Bowl-winning quarterback with an extensive track record of performing well.

Troy Aikman may have a full array of options available to him this offseason, both in and out of the booth.

Aikman has been serving in a consultant role with the Miami Dolphins, but he does not have a “formal and ongoing agreement” with the team to continue the role into next season, according to Mark Maske of Front Office Sports. That means Aikman could theoretically have his choice of front office jobs in the offseason if he wanted to pursue one.

Aikman initially agreed to help advise the Dolphins on their coaching search last season. Once that decision was made, they continued to make use of his connections around the league. It is not publicly known how much consulting, if any, Aikman has done for the franchise this season.

Maske noted that it was highly unlikely that any franchise would pay Aikman a salary that would even approach what he could earn as a broadcaster.

The former Dallas Cowboys quarterback did nothing to dispel rumors of behind-the-scenes tension with Joe Buck in a recent interview, and suggested he could leave ESPN when his contract expires after the Super Bowl. That set off widespread rumors that he could swap networks, since ESPN has dealt with Buck’s contract situation but not his own.

Aikman has been with ESPN since 2022. He and Buck had been together on FOX since 2001 prior to their joint move.

The Milwaukee Brewers’ trip to the World Series is proving to be slightly awkward for the Milwaukee Bucks.

The Bucks had their home opener scheduled for Oct. 23, which also happens to be the same day as Game 1 of the World Series. In a statement, the Bucks said they were “proud” to move their home opener to 3 p.m. local time so as not to coincide with the Brewers’ World Series opener.

Needless to say, the Bucks were not expecting this to be a problem when the schedule came out. It was certainly a possibility, but there even had to be some doubts about the outcome when they came up against the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLCS. Those questions were put aside when they swept the Dodgers in four games.

In a certain sense, the change signifies how far the Bucks have fallen as an attraction. Expectations are not high this year after the offseason trade of Giannis Antetokounmpo. Five years ago, the Bucks won a championship, but every player who was a part of that team is now gone.

A notable team is missing from Nick Saban’s list of the four best college football teams in the nation right now.

In his weekly appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show” Friday, Saban singled out Georgia, Notre Dame, Miami, and Ohio State as the four best teams in college football. He admitted that leaving Alabama off that list was challenging, but that the Crimson Tide need to prove themselves in terms of how they handle success and failure.

Saban’s inclusion of a Big Ten team is interesting considering his previously stated thoughts on the conference.

Fans of teams Saban didn’t name here can take heart in the fact that he does not necessarily have the best record when it comes to picking winners.

The Seattle Seahawks are facing questions about quarterback Sam Darnold’s job security after a rough performance on Thursday night.

Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald affirmed Friday that Darnold will remain the team’s starter moving forward. The coach was clear when asked that he was not considering a quarterback change.

Part of the consideration for the Seahawks is that they have an accomplished backup in Drew Lock. Lock won both of the games he appeared in this season for Seattle, including a victory over the New England Patriots in a game Darnold got hurt in.

Darnold has been hit-or-miss this season. He threw for 278 yards Thursday against Denver, but also threw a pair of interceptions, both of which were crucial in a 17-14 overtime loss.

Darnold has a league-leading seven interceptions this season to go with seven touchdowns. The Seahawks are just 1-3 in games he has started and finished this season.

St. Louis Blues forward Dylan Peterson dropped the gloves late in the third period of his NHL debut on Tuesday, exchanging punches with Ottawa Senators rookie defenseman Jorian Donovan as his parents watched from seats near the glass at Canadian Tire Centre. The Blues won 7-2.

The 24-year-old, a 2020 third-round pick who stands 6-foot-4, played 8:57 on the fourth line alongside Ross Johnston and Pius Suter. He recorded four hits and drew a fighting major.

Broadcast cameras caught his mother, Angela, leaning back and covering her head with both hands as the scrap continued, while his father, Blaine, appeared nervous.

The Blues later posted the clip with Angela repeating, “That’s my son!”

Angela later described her reaction in blunt terms.

“I kind of went, ‘Oh my god, not another one. Oh gosh, what did he break now? Where is he bleeding?’” she told People.

She added that her son “did a good job” and called him “a great kid.”

Blaine noted afterward that Peterson left the dressing room with few marks and his teeth intact.

The parents had flown in from Placencia, Belize, after learning of the call-up. They drove two and a half hours to the airport in Belize City before connecting through Houston and Newark.

“I screamed. I cried,” Angela said of learning the news.

Blaine called the night “the highlight of our lives.”

Peterson, recalled from the AHL’s Springfield Thunderbirds after Dillon Dube’s neck injury, said the game flew by.

“I kind of blacked out; it was going so fast,” he told reporters, via The Athletic. “My heart was going a million miles an hour.”

He expressed gratitude that his family made it and looked forward to seeing their reaction. Blues coach Jim Montgomery praised the physical, relentless effort from his fourth-line right winger in a strong first NHL appearance.

Don Mattingly acknowledged that the 2026 Philadelphia Phillies were not truly his team after the club retained him as full-time manager on a two-year contract through 2028.

“Last year really wasn’t my team,” Mattingly said, via ESPN. “It was Thomps’ team. I took over from that point and just kind of just drove the car from there.”

Mattingly added that there are things he wants to do differently.

Mattingly stepped in as interim manager on April 28 after the Phillies started 9-19 and fired Rob Thomson. He guided them to a 79-55 record and a wild-card berth before a three-game loss to the Atlanta Braves in the NL Wild Card Series. The club finished 88-74 overall.

President of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski explored other options, including former Red Sox manager Alex Cora, who declined twice, along with former Phillies Chase Utley and Raul Ibanez. Mattingly said he never felt slighted, noting he wanted the best for the organization and had confidence in himself.

Looking ahead, Mattingly plans to make the Phillies less cautious, prioritizing defense—where they ranked last in Defensive Runs Saved—along with baserunning and a cleaner, more versatile offensive approach that builds on their strong August.

The team is not retaining hitting coach Kevin Long or infield coach Bobby Dickerson, has hired Carlos Mendoza for the infield and third-base role, and is seeking a new hitting coach.

Southern Nazarene University announced on Thursday that sophomore safety Tyler Ulrich died five days after sustaining what the school described as a “traumatic injury” during a football game.

The 21-year-old from Azle, Texas, was hurt in the Division II matchup against Ouachita Baptist on Saturday in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. The contest, which ended in a 49-14 loss for Southern Nazarene, was delayed nearly an hour while medical personnel attended to Ulrich on the field before he was taken to a hospital.

The university has not specified the exact nature of the injury or the cause of death, though family members and reports have referred to it as a head injury. Ulrich passed away on Thursday morning at 11:13 a.m. in the hospital.

School president Keith Newman said Ulrich died “surrounded by the love, prayers, and presence of his family, teammates and dear friends.”

“As our students, faculty, and staff gathered together on Tuesday for our campus-wide prayer chapel, we anchored our hearts in the truths of Psalm 62—reminding ourselves that “my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him. Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs has filed a civil lawsuit seeking to permanently seal evidence from his battery case, including surveillance video from a garage camera system at his home.

The suit, filed on Wednesday in Brown County Circuit Court against the Hobart-Lawrence Police Department, asks for a permanent injunction and protective order restricting public access to records.

Jacobs joins his former girlfriend, identified in filings as ANM, in arguing that the release would threaten her privacy, dignity, safety, emotional well-being, and ability to obtain closure. His complaint notes that redactions of names or faces would be insufficient, as advanced artificial intelligence could potentially identify her from body shape or other details in the video.

The case stems from a May 23 altercation at Jacobs’ residence. According to the criminal complaint, he grabbed her and threw her to the ground as she tried to exit the garage, causing her to strike her head. Police said he also took and damaged her phone while she was on the floor.

Surveillance footage from the garage corroborated portions of her account. Jacobs was arrested May 26 and later charged in August with misdemeanor battery and criminal damage to property after initial potential felony counts were reduced.

On September 10, he pleaded no contest. He was ordered to pay a $1,000 fine plus costs on the battery charge, with the property damage count deferred for 12 months and subject to dismissal if he meets conditions including no contact with the victim, counseling, supervision, and restitution.

A judge later lifted a temporary seal and left release decisions to police, which had approved limited records with redactions before the new filings halted the process.

Jacobs also contends that releasing the video would reveal details of his garage’s layout, entrances, and security arrangements, increasing risks of burglary or robbery for a public figure whose schedule is widely known.

The NFL, which placed him on the commissioner’s exempt list on August 30 pending its personal conduct review, has sought the video as part of its investigation. He remains unable to practice or play while receiving pay, with no timetable for a resolution. Time on the list can count toward any eventual suspension.

Philadelphia Flyers head coach Rick Tocchet has identified an unexpected culprit behind his team’s winless start: Defensemen who are simply “too horny.”

After a 3-2 shootout loss to the Seattle Kraken, Tocchet fielded questions about forward Trevor Zegras’s reference to “scooter skating.” The term describes a defenseman delaying entry on a rush, then accelerating at the right moment to create space.

Tocchet noted that strong teams time the fourth man perfectly. The Flyers, he said, have not.

“I can say it, they’re too horny, right?” Tocchet said. “They get up in the play, and they get too… so you have to just slow your skating down. The delay comes and then you scoot your skating, so you time it right, and then you get your shot. We were getting in too close.”

In other words, the blue-liners have been jumping into the attack too early and too deep, arriving on top of opposing defenders instead of finding open ice. Tocchet estimated the issue occurred four or five times against Seattle.

An extra two seconds of patience, he added, would have turned blocked shots into Grade A chances. The club worked on the timing the next day.

The diagnosis landed with predictable force. A winless Flyers club already short on goals and structure now has a coach who has publicly diagnosed excessive eagerness as the root problem. Whether the blue line can cool its impulses remains the more pressing question.

For now, Tocchet has made clear that the path to better offense starts with less rush and more restraint.

In all fairness to the Brew Crew, Milwaukee does have some potential Hall of Famers on its roster. Rising stars such as Jackson Chourio and Jacob Misiorowski could end up in Cooperstown once it’s all said and done. Former MVP Christian Yelich also has an outside shot should he have a late-career resurgence or put on an MVP-caliber performance in the Fall Classic.

But the Brewers were no match for the Dodgers in terms of star power. L.A.’s lineup was stacked with former MVPs Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts, and Freddie Freeman, with All-Stars hitting around them. The team’s rotation boasted several Cy Young-caliber talents, then went on to add Tarik Skubal before the trade deadline.

All of that didn’t matter.

The Dodgers’ star-studded roster was no match for the Brewers’ group of “gamers” bound for the franchise’s first World Series in 44 years.

Ryan Fitzpatrick did not hide his frustrations with what he saw from Bo Nix during Thursday night’s Denver Broncos-Seattle Seahawks game.

Nix and the Broncos were victorious 17-14 in front of their home fans at Empower Field at Mile High in Denver, Colo. But the win seemed more to do with the Seahawks playing worse than it did with the Broncos putting on a strong performance in the overtime affair.

“Bo Nix is not playing competitively,” Fitzpatrick said, with his volume rising as he continued to speak. “It’s almost disrespectful to the quarterback position how he’s playing football.

“First of all, the guy doesn’t want to throw the ball — that’s fine. He’s throwing to the flats; he’s throwing behind. He has no trust from his coach. He calls a screen play on 3rd-and-8.”

Facing 3rd-and-1 at the Broncos’ 39, Darnold threw an ill-advised pass to wide receiver Troy Horton that got picked off by Denver cornerback Kris Abrams-Draine.

The Milwaukee Brewers are headed back to the World Series for the first time in over four decades.

The Brewers completed a clean sweep of the Los Angeles Dodgers during Thursday’s NLCS Game 4 at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, Calif. The Fall Classic-bound visitors did it in the most Brewers way possible.

The Dodgers delivered an early-round haymaker in the second inning when Shohei Ohtani’s three-run homer off Dustin May gave the defending champions a 4-0 lead. It was an injection of life into both the struggling Ohtani and to his team as a whole, who looked ready to have people whispering about a possible comeback from down 0-3.

But Milwaukee, like it has all season, crawled back little by little. The Brewers finally got to Dodgers starter Tyler Glasnow in the top of the 4th inning with back-to-back ground-rule doubles to drive in two runs.

For the four-time MVP Ohtani, his health issues (mainly to his knee and his biceps) have been extremely well-documented at this point. But the Dodgers continue to trot Ohtani out there, even moving him to the leadoff spot for Game 4 despite the 32-year-old being visibly compromised.

Ohtani entered play on Thursday hitting a dreadful .182 during this year’s playoffs with zero extra-base hits and seven strikeouts through seven games. It did not take long either for Ohtani to tack on strikeout No. 8 in Game 4.

Unfortunately for Ohtani, this might not have even been his worst whiff of the series. During Game 2 in Milwaukee, Ohtani also managed to lose his bat during a strikeout.

NBA analyst Stan Van Gundy appeared this week on The Ringer’s “The Zach Lowe Show.” During the episode, the conversation turned to the 2026-27 season outlook for the Miami Heat.

Van Gundy did not have very many good things to say about the Heat. He said that he would be “surprised” if Miami earned a top-six seed in the Eastern Conference, expressed doubts that Davion Mitchell was a starting-caliber point guard, and emphasized the health concerns surrounding new Heat superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Additionally, Van Gundy took a notable shot at Miami’s star big man Adebayo. Van Gundy said that he believed Adebayo was “a little overrated, particularly at the offensive end of the floor.”

Van Gundy, who now serves as a commentator for Amazon Prime, might not necessarily be an objective party here. After all, Van Gundy was the head coach of the Heat from 2003-05 but was seemingly forced out of his position so that Pat Riley (who is still Miami’s president) could return as Heat head coach.

As for Adebayo, he is a three-time All-Star and six-time All-Defensive selection, who is widely considered to be one of the best and most versatile defenders in the NBA. Adebayo did also put up 20.1 points per game last season (including a staggering modern-day record of 83 points in a single game), but that somehow managed to give the 6-foot-9 big man even more detractors.

Luka Doncic continues on his weight loss journey.

The Los Angeles Lakers superstar Doncic entered training camp this year at an official listing of 242 pounds, Jovan Buha of The Athletic reported this week. That marks a modest decrease from last season’s training camp where Doncic officially clocked in at 244 pounds.

Doncic, 27, is about to enter his ninth NBA season. Ever since summer 2025, Doncic has been making a concerted effort to get into better shape and was even looking ripped on the cover of Men’s Health magazine last year.

Earlier this offseason, we heard another positive report about Doncic’s conditioning. Apparently, Doncic is now about as lean as he was in the early portion of his NBA career.

The six-time All-Star Doncic led the league last season with 33.5 points per game, marking his second career NBA scoring title. But Doncic still appeared in just 64 regular season games and then missed the entire postseason due to a serious hamstring strain suffered in early April.

Now Doncic is the undisputed alpha dog in Los Angeles with LeBron James leaving the Lakers over the summer to sign with the Philadelphia 76ers. For now, it looks like Doncic is physically up to the task, and he has even been stepping up for the franchise in some other notable ways as well.

Giancarlo Stanton’s ninth season in New York might just end up being his last.

Stanton’s future with the New York Yankees is “murky,” Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reported on Thursday. Phillips notes that Stanton has reached a point in his contract where the Yankees would be comfortable with moving on (since parting ways with him would now only cost $15 million).

However, Phillips adds that Stanton is “well-respected” in New York and that the Yankees might not have much to lose by keeping him around for at least part of next season since they will be paying him regardless. You can read Phillips’ full report on the situation here.

The oft-injured Stanton is set to turn 37 years old next month. This season for the Yankees, Stanton was limited to just 24 total games due to recurring calf issues, batting .256 with only three homers and 14 RBIs.

As for Stanton’s contract, he is officially under contract for $15 million next season with a $15 million club option for 2028 as well. While Stanton does hold a full no-trade clause, the release route may be looking increasingly palatable to the Yankees at this point.

The Yankees went 93-68 this season but lost in the ALDS for a second consecutive year. New York is already facing some drama with their other injury-prone slugger in Aaron Judge, so they might not have much of a leash left for Stanton beyond that.

Karl-Anthony Towns is on some notable radars amid his uncertain situation with the New York Knicks.

The Chicago Bulls and the LA Clippers are considered to be the two teams with the clearest paths to landing the Knicks star center Towns if he hits the open market, Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News reported Thursday. Bondy notes that the Brooklyn Nets, Golden State Warriors, and Dallas Mavericks could also potentially create space for Towns but with more complications.

Towns, 30, is entering his final guaranteed season under contract with the Knicks at $57.1 million. He can become a free agent next summer by declining his $61 million player option for 2027-28.

The six-time All-Star Towns would like a pay raise from the Knicks after helping lead them to the 2026 NBA championship with averages of 20.1 points, 11.9 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game. But New York wants to avoid the second apron of the luxury tax at all costs and is looking for Towns to take a pay cut of tens of millions instead.

The Knicks also recently made the decision to shut down contract talks with all of their extension-eligible players, making a public announcement that they would no longer be negotiating until later on in the season. That led to a fiery response from Towns, who said that he was “very disappointed” in the team.

Meanwhile, the Bulls and Clippers are both rebuilding teams, but both will have plenty of cap space at their disposal come summer 2027. Towns could foreseeably make sense in Chicago as a long-term partner in the frontcourt to Caleb Wilson or as a potential focal point of a floundering post-Aspiration Clippers roster.

Caleb Williams is showing some fight this week (albeit in the press room).

The Chicago Bears star quarterback Williams spoke with reporters on Thursday and offered an update on his hamstring injury. Williams has returned to full practice this week and appears to be in line to start for the Bears on Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons.

During the media session, Williams took exception to the reporting about his injury, saying that he had a “pretty serious” hamstring tear. Williams also declined to state the grade of his hamstring tear, noting that “it doesn’t deserve to be put out there after all the false ones.”

Dan Wiederer of The Athletic then pressed Williams on the injury, asking, “Why keep the details of the injury secret?” Williams proceeded to shut Wiederer down by saying, “Just not deserving.”

Wiederer continued to pressure Williams, but Williams continued to stiff-arm him by saying, “Next question. Thank you. Next question.” Here is the video.

The former No. 1 overall pick Williams injured his hamstring in Week 2 against the Minnesota Vikings when he went down on a non-contact play (see the video here). He then missed the next three games for Chicago, which opened the door for both Case Keenum and Tyson Bagent to start under center in Williams’ absence.

Williams might actually have his own coaching staff for blame for the perception of his injury as Bears head coach Ben Johnson seemed to downplay concerns in the days afterward. But Williams is still taking out some frustrations on the media this week as he looks ahead to making his official return for a 3-2 Chicago team.

Aaron Judge may be the captain of the New York Yankees, but that does not mean his bosses love everything he says or does.

Judge has left some Yankees executives annoyed by his comments after the team’s ALDS sweep at the hands of the Tampa Bay Rays, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post. The situation is not serious, but top executives were taken aback by Judge’s public comments.

Judge urged the Yankees to go “all in” after their loss to the Rays and suggested the team should go out and spend whatever is necessary to deliver a legitimate World Series contender in 2027. That probably does not align with what the organization itself wants to do, considering owner Hal Steinbrenner openly talked about cutting payroll at this time last year.

The Yankees carried a payroll of roughly $310 million into 2026, and the vast majority of their core is under contract for 2027. They might not necessarily have a lot of room to maneuver, much to Judge’s potential disappointment.

One thing that would be particularly helpful to the Yankees is a healthy Judge. He was limited to 66 games last season due to multiple injuries, and he did not appear in the playoffs.

Cleveland Guardians center fielder Petey Halpin unleashed the bat flip of the postseason on Thursday during Game 3 of the American League Championship Series.

Halpin hit a go-ahead home run in the bottom of the fifth inning of the game between the Guardians and Tampa Bay Rays at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Oh. The outfielder knew it was gone as soon as he hit it, and he responded by doing a full-on bat flip straight up in the air.

Halpin’s flip looked like the work of an accomplished pro, but it was anything but. The 24-year-old had just four homers in his entire MLB career before Thursday, and none were as big as the go-ahead shot. With one swing, he turned a 2-1 Cleveland deficit into a 3-2 lead.

After posting a .594 OPS during 83 regular season games, Halpin has been a major factor in Cleveland’s playoff run. He now has three extra-base hits in six games after notching nine all season.

Halpin’s home run turned out to be the difference in the game, as the Guardians held on for a 3-2 win.

New York Giants coach John Harbaugh suggested the team will make more use of JJ McCarthy going forward.

Harbaugh hinted at an expanded package of plays for McCarthy, who was acquired from the Minnesota Vikings via trade. The Giants like McCarthy’s potential as a runner, and Harbaugh said the team would be doing itself a disservice by not looking into other ways the quarterback could help them.

“The benefits of it? It’s a change of pace,” Harbaugh said, via Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk. “What you saw is probably not all we have for him right now. Whether or not he’s out there or not will be determined based on whatever happens. But we’ll see if it’s something that can help us.

“One thing about it, to me, it’s like, what’s the benefit of not doing everything you can to use all the guys you have? We’re always going to be searching for opportunities to use our players, give them an opportunity to help us win games. I think we’d be negligent if we didn’t try to do that.”

The Giants did not use McCarthy much in their Week 5 tie with the Washington Commanders. He took five snaps and made little impact, but based on Harbaugh’s comments, that count may go up. McCarthy’s running ability will be the main draw, with Jameis Winston still poised to handle proper quarterback duties.

McCarthy’s throwing ability at the NFL level has left a lot to be desired, to say the least. He may be able to reinvent himself as a run-first quarterback to carve out a role for him in the league.

The 2027 NFL offseason looks like it might prove to be a big one in terms of analysts swapping networks.

No. 2 FOX analyst Greg Olsen is set to be a free agent this offseason, according to Richard Deitsch of Sports Business Journal. The network has yet to have any discussions with Olsen about a contract extension, raising the likelihood that he will potentially find a new home next season.

SPORTS BROADCASTING NEWS: FOX has not had any negotiations with Greg Olsen about a contract beyond this season, per industry sources. Olsen’s contract expires at the end of this NFL season. Something notable is Olsen had exploratory talks with CBS Sports two years ago. He’s already called a Super Bowl and enjoys critical praise. Would be a very attractive free agent.

Olsen would be hitting the market at a good time for him. CBS is already in the market for a new top analyst, and Olsen held talks with them two years ago. There is also the sudden possibility that ESPN might need a new top analyst to pair with Joe Buck on “Monday Night Football.”

Olsen is also not the typical broadcasting free agent. He spent time on FOX’s No. 1 crew during Tom Brady’s one-year sabbatical, and won plaudits for his work there. He has even called a Super Bowl, and also has made no secret of his ambition to be part of a No. 1 broadcast team somewhere.

FOX might not have the means to keep Olsen even if they want to. Brady is not going anywhere, and if Olsen is not willing to stay in his current role, there is no way he will be back.

The Philadelphia Phillies’ search for a new manager was messy enough that two high-profile former players both turned down the opportunity to speak to the team about the job.

The Phillies reached out to Chase Utley and Raul Ibanez, both prominent former players with the team, to gauge their interest in managing, according to Jayson Stark of The Athletic. Both players ultimately declined the opportunity to interview, though Ibanez at least took a few days to consider the opportunity.

Utley, a Phillies legend, is a special assistant with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He did not comment directly on the Phillies job, but he did say that it is “not realistic” for him to consider managing at this point in his life.

The Phillies originally planned to move on from interim manager Don Mattingly, who took over the role after the early-season firing of Rob Thomson. They then pursued former Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora, but he decided not to pursue the job. That led to inquiries like the one they made to Utley and Ibanez, and when those were unsuccessful, they ultimately went back to square one and brought back Mattingly.

The Phillies went 88-74 last season, with Mattingly specifically going 79-55. However, the team was eliminated by the Atlanta Braves in the NL Wild Card series, raising questions about where the organization will go next after another postseason failure.

The Philadelphia Eagles will be without quarterback Jalen Hurts for at least one game following the discovery of a blood clot in his calf.

In a statement, the Eagles revealed that a small blood clot was discovered in Hurts’ calf after he was cleated during an October 4 game against the Los Angeles Rams. Doctors determined that Hurts could safely play Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London, but suggested a follow-up ultrasound in 72 hours.

The follow-up revealed movement in the blood clot, and the Eagles will hold Hurts out of Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers “as we determine the appropriate course of treatment.”

Hurts showed no indication of an injury during Sunday’s game, and has practiced in full during the week. The blood clot was only discovered Saturday after the Eagles had arrived in London.

There is no indication whether Hurts will miss more than one game, as it entirely depends on how his treatment goes. It is safe to assume he will be sidelined until the issue is resolved, no matter how long it takes.

Backup Tanner McKee will start for the Eagles as long as Hurts is out. The team had a more experienced backup, but just got rid of him due to a roster crunch.

Hurts has thrown for 933 yards with eight touchdowns and three interceptions in five games so far this season.

Former Dallas Mavericks coach Jason Kidd has officially landed a new job.

Kidd is joining ESPN as an NBA analyst, the network confirmed Thursday. Kidd’s primary role will be as a game analyst on “NBA Countdown,” but the network announcement states he will also serve as an analyst for select games.

Kidd’s new job was reported on last week. He spent the previous five seasons as head coach of the Mavericks, but was fired after new team president Masai Ujiri took over in May.

Expect Kidd’s stop at ESPN to be a temporary one. He has made it clear that he wants to coach again. It is not clear whether he plans to take the entire year off or is simply waiting for an offer that intrigues him. He was only really strongly linked to one job after leaving Dallas, and they ultimately went in a different direction.

At 53 years old, the Basketball Hall of Famer Kidd has 10 total seasons of experience as an NBA head coach, going 388-395 (.496) overall. He has made two conference finals appearances and one NBA Finals appearance as a head coach, all with the Mavericks. He also won a championship as an assistant coach for the Los Angeles Lakers in 2020.

ESPN NFL analyst Troy Aikman addressed a report of tension with Joe Buck, and he did not exactly deny it.

In an appearance on 96.7 The Ticket in Dallas on Thursday, Aikman vaguely deflected a question about reported tension with Buck amid contract negotiations with ESPN. Aikman did, however, confirm that his contract expires after the Super Bowl, and indicated he could choose to leave for a new job.

“There’s probably a time and a place for all that. I don’t know if now is the time,” Aikman said, via Joseph Hoyt of the Dallas Morning News. “I don’t know if it’s hard to figure out kind of what happened. I’ll broadcast through this season and I’ll be a free agent at the end of the year and kind of see what happens. I’m looking forward to whatever the rest of this season does hold and the Super Bowl and all that and where my next landing spot may be.”

Reports emerged Wednesday suggesting that Buck and Aikman are experiencing private tension over their respective contract situations at ESPN. While Aikman does not have a new deal with the network, Buck already signed a six-year contract extension earlier this year.

While Aikman is not closing the door on a return to ESPN, he also seems to be putting the network on notice. His comments suggest he would seriously consider leaving the network, which would put added pressure on ESPN to get a deal done if they want to keep him and Buck together.

Buck and Aikman have been broadcast partners since 2001. They moved from FOX to ESPN together in 2022 to become the new voices of “Monday Night Football.”

The Houston Texans have a new downfield weapon for CJ Stroud, and it’s someone very familiar to the quarterback.

Houston acquired Stroud’s former college teammate and wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. from the Arizona Cardinals via a recent trade. Harrison and a sixth-round pick in 2027 were sent by the Cards to Houston in exchange for a 2027 second-rounder and a 2027 seventh-rounder.

Stroud and Harrison spent time together in college with the Ohio State Buckeyes, and they will now look to build on that chemistry, this time in the pros.

But Stroud is also not going to allow the negative perception people have of Harrison during the wideout’s time with the Cardinals to affect him.

“It doesn’t matter what people say. He’s a heckuva player,” Stroud said of Harrison, via Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston. 

“I don’t agree with some of the things people are saying about him. They can have their opinions. It doesn’t really affect you unless you let it. He’ll be fine. He’s a confident dude. He’ll be fine.”

Harrison was once considered a future superstar NFL wide receiver after the Cardinals selected him fourth overall in the 2024 NFL Draft. But he didn’t quite realize his potential in Arizona, as his production gradually dropped each season.

With a career reset in Houston, Harrison will look to be a more consistent factor in his team’s passing attack.

Houston enters Week 6 with a 1-4 record and an average of 261.8 passing yards per game, sixth-best overall.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are facing an uphill battle in the 2026 National League Championship Series after Blake Snell failed to rescue his team in Game 3 on Wednesday.

The Dodgers ace struggled to silence Milwaukee’s relentless bats, and perhaps no one personified that better than Brewers slugger Jake Bauers.

The Milwaukee first baseman put on a batting masterclass in the seventh inning at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, Calif., battling Snell in an epic 11-pitch at-bat that featured five foul balls before launching a go-ahead home run.

That home run was followed by another solo blast off Snell from Brewers outfielder Garrett Mitchell.

That prompted Snell’s exit from the mound, as the Brewers went on to win the game, 6-2, for a commanding 3-0 series lead.

Despite his struggles against the Brewers, Snell gave props to his former teammate. 

“I’ve known him since he got drafted with San Diego, then he was with the Rays. I was with him for

probably four years, something like that,” Snell said of Bauers, via Alden González of ESPN. 

“I’ve seen all the ups and downs he’s been through and it’s been a lot of downs. So for him to go through this right now, he’s earned it. Hat’s off to him. I mean, what an at- bat. I threw everything I had. Fastball down the middle. If I can locate that better, who knows what would happen. It’s the best I’ve ever seen him play. It’s a good at-bat. Hat’s off to him.”

In six innings of work, Snell allowed four earned runs on four hits (three home runs), but racked up nine strikeouts through 101 pitches.

Unless the Dodgers find a way to overcome a 3-0 series deficit against Milwaukee, Snell has likely thrown his last pitch of 2026.

The inevitable is happening. The tale of alleged fraudster Daejon Love is getting its streaming treatment.

On Wednesday, streaming giant Netflix announced, via its official companion site Tudum,  that it will release an “Untold” documentary featuring the viral story of Love’s fraudulent life.

The documentary also has a seemingly perfect title: “Untold: Wide Deceiver.”

The premiere date of Untold: Wide Deceiver hasn’t been announced yet.

Love captured everyone’s attention just before the start of the 2026 NFL season when he was arrested along with a co-conspirator and charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and wire fraud.

Posing as a wide receiver for the San Francisco 49ers, Love allegedly scammed 26 women out of $1.3 million. But 35 more women have also come forward since, all claiming they were ripped off by Love.

Videos and photos of Love as a fake NFL wideout quickly spread on social media after his arrest, becoming a rich source of content for meme culture. But whether that level of notoriety will translate into a streaming hit is something Netflix is about to find out.

As for the real 49ers, they are proving every week that they’re contenders, not pretenders. 

San Francisco is undefeated through five weeks and is coming off a statement 32-29 victory over the reigning Super Bowl champions and NFC West rivals Seattle Seahawks in Week 5.

John Calipari’s Arkansas Razorbacks are in for a ride in the coming 2026-27 college basketball season.

The Razorbacks have a seemingly testy non-conference schedule, which Calipari discussed while speaking on stage at SEC Basketball Tipoff ’27.

“Our schedule’s ridiculous. Why I opened the season with Virginia, I must have been on crack,” the 67-year-old Calipari said, via Courtney Mims of FOX16 Sports. 

Arkansas will actually start its season with a game against the Arkansas Pine Bluff  Golden Lions on Nov. 3 at Bud Walton Arena in Fayetteville, Ark., before facing the Virginia Cavaliers at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C., on Nov. 8.

Calipari then rattled off some of the other games on tap for the Razorbacks against notable programs.

“Then you go Michigan State. What? Then you go we’re going to go play in Phoenix, play Arizona. Indiana, way better than I thought. We’re playing them in New York. Then we play an easy one, North Carolina in the Dean Dome. What?”

Calipari is entering his third season as head coach of the Razorbacks. He’s taken Arkansas to the NCAA Tournament in each of the last two seasons, but both trips ended in Sweet 16 losses.

Still, Arkansas has shown improvement under Calipari each year. The Razorbacks won 22 games in 2024-25 before posting 28 victories in 2025-26.

The Oklahoma City Thunder’s attempt to reclaim the NBA crown in the 2026-27 season will not involve rookie guard Otega Oweh.

The former Kentucky Wildcats guard suffered a non-contact injury during overtime of Tuesday’s NBA preseason game between the Thunder and the Pacers at Paycom Center in Oklahoma City, Okla.

After challenging a Pacers 3-point shot, Oweh went down on the floor in clear pain.

Thunder staff immediately checked on him before he was helped off the floor.

Oweh scored eight points on 2/6 shooting and grabbed three rebounds in 15 minutes off the bench in the Thunder’s 114-112 win over the Pacers. It will take time for him to get back to his top form, but he’s only 23, so he still has an entire basketball career ahead of him.

Oweh played two college basketball seasons with the Oklahoma Sooners before transferring to Kentucky. After two years with the Wildcats, Oweh was taken 41st overall in the 2026 NBA Draft.

Ronald Acuña Jr. might not have worn out his welcome in Atlanta just yet.

The Atlanta Braves are unlikely to trade their star outfielder Acuña this offseason, Jon Heyman of The New York Post reported Wednesday on the Bleacher Report app. Heyman notes that teams will try to trade for Acuña but characterizes an actual trade as a “major longshot.”

Acuña, the former NL MVP, just completed his ninth season with the Braves. But he had a forgettable regular season (batting .255 with 20 home runs and 55 RBIs through 107 games) and was even worse in the playoffs (hitting a woeful .125 with zero extra-base hits as Atlanta lost in the NLDS).

Now the question turns to what the future looks like for the 28-year-old Acuña. Especially after ACL tears to both of Acuña’s knees in the last half-decade, it is fair to wonder what his production will look like once he gets to his 30s.

For the time being though, the Braves still have club options on Acuña for 2027 and 2028 (at $17 million each). As such, it might benefit Atlanta to ride out Acuña’s fairly affordable contract at least for another season to see if he can turn things around.

Acuña also recently sparked backlash with a controversial partnership and has even been drawing attention with some cryptic changes to his social media page. But at least for now, it seems like the Braves will be content with simply kicking the can down the road on their five-time All-Star talent.

Pat Murphy produced a rare L during Wednesday’s game.

The Milwaukee Brewers faced the Los Angeles Dodgers for Game 3 of their NLCS series on Wednesday. Milwaukee managed to hold a 1-0 lead through five innings as Blake Snell and Robert Gasser put on an impressive pitcher’s duel.

But in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Brewers manager Murphy made the decision to pull Gasser at 72 pitches. Instead, Murphy inserted reliever Abner Uribe to face the heart of the Dodgers’ lineup.

The usually steady Uribe then went on to walk his first two batters. He settled down to strike out Max Muncy but allowed another walk to Shohei Ohtani before Dodgers catcher Will Smith doubled off the wall to turn a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 lead for L.A.

Murphy was sharply criticized online for the bizarre move of leaving Uribe in to face Ohtani and Muncy. Fans questioned why Murphy seemingly could not tell that Uribe did not have it.

While the righty Uribe has been almost automatic this postseason, he has also pitched in every single game, apparently to the point of overuse. With the Brewers having a very strong bullpen behind Uribe, fans could not understand why Murphy (who usually has a fairly quick hook) lost the plot there in the sixth inning of Game 3.

The Portland Trail Blazers have officially anointed their replacement for the fired Braiden Bell.

Portland is hiring Travis Demers to serve as their new television play-by-play broadcaster for next season, according to a report Wednesday by Joe Freeman of The Oregonian. Demers is a familiar voice to Blazers fans as he has already been the radio voice of the team for the last seven seasons.

The move by Portland comes after the ugly saga involving Bell. At the start of the month, the Blazers named Bell, a former broadcaster for the WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury and the NBA G League’s Valley Suns, as their new TV play-by-play man.

But Bell ended up being fired by the Blazers less than 24 hours after they hired him upon a KGW reporter digging up some old social media posts in which Bell (who was then a teenager) used racist and misogynistic language. Bell would later issue a public apology for the posts.

But in more recent days, Bell has seemingly turned defiant. He reportedly hired counsel in a bid to have the Blazers reinstate him and also issued a public plea to the NBA calling for a “fairer approach” when it comes to hirings.

Ultimately though, Portland is moving forward with the familiar Demers and shifting him into the television booth for the 2026-27 NBA season (and possibly beyond). Demers is now the official replacement for former Blazers TV announcer Kevin Calabro, one of several prominent names who left Portland amid widespread budget cuts by new owner Tom Dundon.

Jarren Duran might potentially be headed as far away from Boston as possible.

The veteran Red Sox outfielder Duran is being linked to the San Diego Padres in trade rumors this week. Jon Heyman of The New York Post reported Wednesday on the Bleacher Report app that the Padres “love” Duran and that they will likely be the destination for Duran if he gets traded.

Duran, the 30-year-old former All-Star, is at a low point of his value right now. He hit a career-worst .207 for the Red Sox this season but did still manage to generate 20 homers, 69 RBIs, and 21 stolen bases through 151 games.

Earlier this week, we learned that Boston would potentially consider parting ways with Duran this offseason. That is because the Red Sox reportedly do not want to meet the number that Duran is projected to receive in arbitration.

As for the Padres, left field remains a spot of relative weakness for them. Dustin Harris and Samad Taylor platooned at the position in 2026 (after Ramon Laureano suffered a season-ending hip injury), but neither hits for much power.

Duran did continue to cause some headaches in Boston this season, which could expedite his ultimate departure from the team. The Red Sox also have 22-year-old Roman Anthony ready to step in at left field, and that might be good news for the Padres’ chances of trading for Duran this winter.

Kristaps Porzingis is speaking out this week amid his latest mystery health battle.

The Golden State Warriors big man Porzingis took to his X page on Wednesday to set the record straight about his illness. Porzingis called his health situation “frustrating” but said that he was making good progress and was working with doctors and experts to figure out how exactly to get back to full health.

Additonally, Porzingis disputed a notable Internet theory about his illness. Porzingis said that he did not have HIV or AIDS and poked fun at the “Internet doctors” who were trying to diagnose him.

The former All-Star Porzingis, 31, has been battling an illness since at least 2024 (dating back to his time with the Boston Celtics). Porzingis was eventually revealed to have been diagnosed with “POTS” (postural tachycardia syndrome), which can cause extreme fatigue, dizziness, and heart palpitations when standing up.

At 7-foot-2, Porzingis has only managed to play in 74 total games over the last two NBA seasons combined. But the Warriors, who acquired Porzingis in a Feb. 2026 trade, apparently felt good enough about Porzingis’ health that they gave him a two-year, $40 million contract extension earlier this offseason.

However, the concerning news then emerged last month that Porzingis was dealing with a health issue again and was considered to be out indefinitely. While Porzingis’ post to X this week still did not specify what exactly he is battling, the former NBA champion is at least putting to rest some of the prominent concerns about his illness.

Joe Davis was not quite ready for the moment in Wednesday’s Game 3.

The Los Angeles Dodgers hosted the Milwaukee Brewers for the third installment of their NLCS showdown. But Brewers star outfielder Jackson Chourio gave a rude (and very quick) awakening to the crowd at UNIQLO Field at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, Calif.

On the very first pitch of the game, Chourio pounced all over the Dodgers. He shot a 98-mph fastball from Dodgers starter Blake Snell into the seats in right field.

Davis, calling the game for FOX, was still giving his intro to viewers at the time. But Chourio’s home run stopped him in his tracks, and Davis even stumbled over his words at one point calling the quick-hit dinger.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are making an unprecedented move with injured star Shohei Ohtani as he continues to struggle through the playoffs.

The Dodgers are batting Ohtani sixth for Game 3 of the NLCS on Wednesday. That is the lowest place in the order Ohtani has hit since joining the Dodgers.

Ohtani has generally been the Dodgers’ leadoff hitter all season. He hit fourth in the first two games of the NLCS in Milwaukee, but went 1-for-7 with three strikeouts in that role.

During his MLB career, Ohtani has only started a game at sixth or lower in the order 19 times. All but two of them came in 2018 when he was in his first MLB season with the Los Angeles Angels. Nine of them were his first nine starts with the Angels, as the team wanted to allow him to acclimate without putting too much pressure on him by hitting him up in the order.

There was some talk that the Dodgers might even bench Ohtani for Game 3 as he battles an extended slump. He is 3-for-20 in the postseason and has not homered since August 18. He has been battling well-publicized knee and bicep injuries, but has refused to use those as an excuse for his lack of production.

One NFL legend thinks the Arizona Cardinals deserve some blame for the struggles of wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr.

Former wide receiver Steve Smith suggested that the Cardinals had failed Harrison by not getting him the ball enough. He was also critical of the fact that the team expected him to be a deep threat who created separation instead of a possession wide receiver.

“They traded Marvin Harrison away because they no longer thought that he was an asset to the team. You can say, ‘Oh, we value him.’ Throw him the ball. If you value him, throw him the football. But you weren’t valuing him. You didn’t,” Smith said on his “89” podcast. “He doesn’t separate. Okay. Tell me something else I don’t know. When you took this job, you knew that was the case. You watched film.”

Harrison only got 73 targets in 12 games last season and had pretty much fallen out of favor entirely this season, so Smith has a point. However, the former No. 4 overall pick had plenty of other issues that impacted how often Arizona tried to get him the ball. The situation cannot be fully blamed on the coaching staff alone.

The Cardinals ultimately traded Harrison Jr. to the Houston Texans earlier this week. Smith might see that as good news, and based on some of his previous commentary, Harrison’s famous father might agree.

All is not well with ESPN’s high-profile “Monday Night Football” broadcast booth.

Play-by-play announcer Joe Buck and analyst Troy Aikman are dealing with unspoken tension regarding their respective contract situations, according to Ryan Glasspiegel of Front Office Sports. The tension led to an argument prior to Monday’s game between the Los Angeles Rams and Buffalo Bills, but the situation was de-escalated before the game started.

Buck has already agreed to a new six-year contract with ESPN. Aikman, however, has yet to sign a new deal with the network despite the fact that his contract expires at the end of the season. ESPN has yet to even make Aikman a formal offer, and there are suggestions that he feels somewhat disrespected as a result.

This is not exactly ideal timing for the issue to arise. Buck and Aikman are slated to call this season’s Super Bowl, which will be the first one broadcast by ESPN.

Buck and Aikman have worked together since 2001, first with FOX and then with ESPN since 2022. The two have always been highly complimentary of each other, and Aikman has even publicly referred to Buck as one of his best friends. They even moved from FOX to ESPN at the same time and signed contracts for the same length at that point.

Aikman would immediately be a coveted broadcasting free agent if he did leave ESPN. There is one No. 1 network crew that does not have a permanent top analyst right now, and they might be interested depending on the circumstances.

ESPN NBA analyst Kendrick Perkins is at least willing to admit when he is wrong, as one player discovered on Wednesday.

On Wednesday’s “NBA Today,” Perkins said he owed Indiana Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton a public apology after doubting Haliburton’s status as a franchise guard two years ago. According to Perkins, Haliburton as proven his importance to the Pacers, and should be regarded as one of the best guards in the league.

“I was one of them that called him overrated two years ago, and I would like to issue a public apology. Young man, you are one of them,” Perkins said. “When we start to talk about Luka (Doncic), Jalen Brunson and these top dogs around the league, we have to mention this young man. He led a team to the NBA Finals. This man is one of the best leaders in the game. He’s a throwback guard. No one can question him in the clutch because he’s proven it on the big stage.”

It’s worth remembering that Perkins’ opinion was not an isolated one a few years ago. A 2025 poll indicated that Haliburton was seen as the most overrated player in the league by his peers. Even before that, some people were downright offended that Haliburton was considered an All-Star.

Haliburton silenced most of his critics after his run through the 2025 NBA Playoffs, which saw him nearly lead the Pacers to an unlikely championship. Perkins, however, has taken the extra step of issuing an all-out apology.

A lost playbook is typically viewed as a serious issue for a football team, but head coach Deion Sanders did not seem to view it as such when it happened to his Colorado team.

A Texas Tech fan discovered a set of Colorado’s scripted plays that had been left behind at an area bar by accident. The incident raised questions about whether Sanders intended to look into how the playbook got lost, but the Buffaloes coach was surprisingly dismissive.

“I don’t think we have a whole playbook. They did get a script. I thought we scored on the first drive, so what’s the purpose of the question?” Sanders said. “Why would we (investigate)? The game’s over. Why would we do that?”

While team tendencies are hardly a secret, most programs do not like it when another team is in possession of their actual plays, and it is usually taken seriously when it does happen. Sanders being so thoroughly dismissive of the situation is a bit of a surprise.

Sanders is correct that the Buffaloes scored on their first drive of the game. However, they ultimately lost 29-7 to fall to 2-3 on the season.

Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Liam Coen is changing things up after his team ran into a number of clock issues during Sunday’s win over the Philadelphia Eagles in London.

The Jaguars took three delay of game penalties during their 19-17 win, including two in the fourth quarter that cost the team an opportunity from 1st-and-goal at Philadelphia’s 1-yard line. Coen admitted the pro-Eagles atmosphere impacted the offense, and said he may shorten his playcalls in the future to prevent the issues from resurfacing.

“That was probably one of the louder atmospheres I’ve been in a while,” Coen said, via Michael DiRocco of ESPN. “Especially in those critical moments to where, ‘Hey guys, I can help you out with my playcall.’ Maybe shorten it up, trim the verbiage or call something a little bit more simplified down there where it was in that end zone specifically that got loud and some of those critical downs.”

The miscommunications did not cost the Jaguars the game, but it certainly could have. Coen was saved by the fact that his counterpart mismanaged the game even worse than he did.

The Jaguars’ issues Sunday were a one-off, as Coen has them playing very well. They sit 4-1 ahead of their Week 6 matchup with the Houston Texans.

A leading NFL insider predicted the first team to bench their starting quarterback this season.

ESPN’s Dan Graziano suggested Wednesday that the Arizona Cardinals will likely bench starter Jacoby Brissett at some point this season to get a look at rookie Carson Beck. That change, however, may not happen until November.

“I absolutely expect the Cardinals to take a look at Beck at some point this season, though I’ve been told it might not happen until late November, when their schedule eases up a bit,” Graziano wrote.

Brissett has not necessarily been the heart of Arizona’s issues. He has thrown for 1,110 yards with nine touchdowns so far on the season, but the team is just 1-4 and the offense has slightly regressed in recent weeks. Brissett is not seen as a long-term solution in Arizona, so once the season gets away from them, a change would make sense.

Beck intrigued the Cardinals during training camp, and the team has indicated that it wants to see more of what he can do. That cannot happen until he plays, which increases the chances of an eventual change.

The Houston Astros are officially in the hunt for a new manager.

The Astros confirmed Wednesday that they will not renew the contract of manager Joe Espada. That means Espada will be departing the organization after three seasons.

Espada had been with the Astros since 2018, when he became the team’s bench coach. He was promoted to manager after Dusty Baker retired following the 2023 season. He went 256-229 over three seasons and won two division titles, but never found success in the playoffs.

The Astros did not necessarily help Espada, as a great deal of talent left the organization during his tenure. In 2024, Espada had the likes of Kyle Tucker, Alex Bregman, and Framber Valdez at his disposal. All three had left the team by the start of the 2026 season.

Espada may not be out of work for long, as he already has one potential landing spot elsewhere.

The Golden State Warriors demolished the Los Angeles Lakers in a 101-89 preseason win Tuesday at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nev., but Steve Kerr is far from satisfied with his squad’s current state.

The Warriors head coach, clearly not happy with how his team has been executing on offense in the preseason, offered a blunt take on Golden State’s form.

“We’re not anywhere close to where we want to be,” Kerr said after the Lakers game, via Monte Poole of NBC Sports Bay Area. 

“But we are working on the right things, we have a clear vision, the players are great guys, they’re committed, they want to do well. But our execution is just scattered at this point. You just got to keep working. It’s not going to happen overnight.”

The Warriors shot just 39% from the field against the Lakers and hit just 14 of their 50 attempts from behind the arc. Ball security was also an issue for Golden State, which had 20 turnovers in the game.

Through five preseason games, the Warriors are just 20th overall with a 106.3 offensive rating and 23rd with a 20.1% turnover rate.

The Warriors have one more preseason game left to play, which is against the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday. They will open their 2026-27 season on Oct. 21 against the Lakers at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, Calif.

Draymond Green tried to share some of his wisdom with Sacramento Kings rookie guard Darius Acuff Jr. during a preseason game on Saturday at Chase Center in San Francisco, Calif.

It wasn’t clear at first what Green was telling Acuff when the broadcast showed the Golden State Warriors forward speaking with Acuff, who gave the four-time NBA champion a tap before checking in.

Green finally shared what he told Acuff during that interaction, revealing that the former NBA Defensive Player of the Year warned the rookie about the risks of holding the ball too much without involving his teammates.

“My advice to him was just ‘hey man, who else touched the ball that possession?’, he’s like ‘nobody’ and I was like ‘don’t have many of those’ because you can end up having a bunch of those with the Sacramento Kings this year and a few things can happen,” Green said on a recent episode of “The Draymond Green Show.” 

The Kings are not viewed as a playoff contender heading into the 2026-27 NBA season, which means Acuff could have more freedom with the ball than some other rookies. However, Green believes that this freedom could lead to resentment from Acuff’s teammates.

Green continued: “You can get guys start plotting against you, guys that don’t really wanna see you do well, guys that start bickering on the side to other guys… You can get guys that get upset like ‘aahh man they wanna give this rookie this, they wanna do that, f**k that!’… and so for me when I saw that, I just wanted to give him a little game.”

At the end of the day, it’s up to Acuff how he’ll approach his first year in the pros.

Selected seventh overall by the Kings in the 2026 NBA Draft, Acuff averaged 23.5 points on 44% shooting from the field during the 2025-26 season with Arkansas — his only year in college.

Giannis Antetokounmpo is wearing a new jersey number after his stunning trade from the Milwaukee Bucks to the Miami Heat in July. 

Antetokounmpo wore No. 34 throughout his time with the Bucks, but he’s already switched to No. 7, apparently because he simply wanted to move on.

“Had to get closure. It was a huge chapter in my life. Now, I want to move on, and the reason I’m not wearing 34 is out of respect,” the two-time NBA Most Valuable Player said during a recent appearance on “Thanalysis Show.” Not just the organization, but the people that was there with me. 34 will only be worn in Milwaukee. 

However, the 10-time NBA All-Star is not entirely closing the door on a possible return to his old number.

“But I’m human. I might change my mind. Maybe next year I might put 34 on. We’ll see,” the 31-year-old Antetokounmpo added.

That decision can wait. Antetokounmpo’s top priority is helping the Heat return to the top after Miami let go of quite a package to get him from Milwaukee. 

The Bucks sent Antetokounmpo and veteran forward Bobby Portis to Miami in exchange for  Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakucionis, three first-round picks, a pick swap and a second-round pick.

And just like that, Connor McDavid has already played 800 NHL games.

The three-time Hart Memorial Trophy winner hit that notable achievement on Tuesday, when the Edmonton Oilers faced the Los Angeles Kings at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, Calif.

As usual, McDavid put on a show as the Oilers defeated the Kings, 4-1. 

The 29-year-old forward started the game like a house on fire, scoring a goal and recording two assists in the first period alone. He added another assist in the third period for his fourth point of the evening.

After the game, McDavid reflected on his career milestone while teasing fans about what’s to come from one of the best ever to play the game.

“It’s been a fun ride. Hard to imagine 800 games, but I’ve got a lot of runway left and a lot of games left. A lot of good times ahead,” McDavid told Gene Principe of Sportsnet.

The Oilers selected McDavid with the first overall pick in the 2015 NHL Draft. He’s clearly living up to the hype that came with him. But over a decade into his career, McDavid is still chasing his first Stanley Cup title.

An Orlando Magic player quite literally faced a problem during an NBA preseason game on Tuesday.

Magic forward Noah Penda was about to turn a great defensive play into instant offense when he attacked the rim following a steal in the second quarter of a game against the Cleveland Cavaliers at Kia Center in Orlando, Fla. 

With only Cavs star guard James Harden, who’s not really known for his defense, in front of him, Penda rose for a two-handed throwdown. However, the ball ricocheted off his face and bounced away from the basket.

Penda’s shot was later waved off after review for offensive interference.

Penda appears to have a penchant for going viral over bizarre moments.

A few months ago, the French forward drew attention after he and teammate Goga Bitadze were spotted making an apparent drug-themed handshake before an NBA playoff game against the Detroit Pistons.

As for the preseason game, Penda and the Magic came away with a 132-116 victory over Cleveland.

Penda, who is entering his second season in the NBA,  finished with five points on 2/4 shooting from the field with four rebounds, two assists, a steal and a block in 19 minutes of action.

The 0-5 Los Angeles Chargers still can’t right their ship after five winless weeks in the 2026 NFL season, but they’re not waving the white flag either. They are still looking for help, including on offense. 

According to Tom Pelissero of Netflix, the Bolts worked out veteran wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster on Tuesday.

Smith-Schuster was considered one of the NFL’s promising wide receivers early in his NFL career. The Pittsburgh Steelers selected him in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft, and he was a Pro Bowler by his second year in the pros. 

However, Smith-Schuster hasn’t reached that level again since, as he made stops with the Kansas City Chiefs and New England Patriots. 

The Chargers are looking for a spark on offense, and while it’s hard to see Smith-Schuster as the magic pill that could cure the team’s offensive woes, he is at least a healthy option the team can rely on — if they sign him.

So far this season, the Chargers are averaging just 16.8 points per game.

The 29-year-old Smith-Schuster signed a one-year, $1.3 million contract with the New York Giants in June but was among the team’s roster cuts in August.

Smith-Schuster won a Super Bowl with the Chiefs in 2023, leading all players at Super Bowl LVII with seven receptions for 53 receiving yards in a 38-35 win over the Philadelphia Eagles.

Tyreek Hill is getting some good news and some bad news this week in his assault case.

A jury in Miami, Fla. surprisingly delivered a mixed verdict on Tuesday in the civil lawsuit against the former All-Pro wide receiver Hill. The jury found Hill liable on two counts of battery against his ex-wife Lakeeta Vaccaro and ordered him to pay a sum of $500,000 in compensatory damages, Xuan Thai of ESPN reports.

However, the jury also found that Hill was not liable for the eight remaining claims that had been made by Vaccaro, ultimately denying Vaccaro the punitive damages that she was seeking. Hill was said to be “relieved-looking” as the verdict was read and went on to hug one of his attorneys.

The six-person jury reportedly rendered their verdict after nearly four hours of deliberation. You can read Thai’s full report on the situation here.

Vaccaro, 30, filed her assault and battery lawsuit against Hill, 32, in Sept. 2025. In the lawsuit, Vaccaro, who filed for divorce from Hill in April 2025, alleged that Hill had been physically violent against her on multiple occasions after their marriage in late 2023 (read the full details here).

Hill, who also settled a lawsuit against him from a different woman earlier this year, remains an unsigned free agent after suffering a devastating knee injury with the Miami Dolphins last season. Rumors have been swirling recently about a potentially imminent new NFL deal for Hill, but it remains to be seen if Hill will be facing discipline from the league under the NFL’s Personal Conduct Policy.

Jose Ramirez went full Bill Buckner in Game 2 of the ALCS.

The Cleveland Guardians star Ramirez made a very costly error against the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday. During the fourth inning at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla., the Rays had runners at the corners with two outs in a scoreless ballgame.

Tampa Bay second baseman Ben Williamson proceeded to hit a seemingly routine grounder to Ramirez at third base. But the ball ate Ramirez up, glancing underneath his glove and ultimately going between his legs into the outfield to allow the lead runner to score.

The two-out error gave the Rays a 1-0 lead, and they went on to score two more times in the inning to open up a 3-0 advantage over the Guardians. As a result, Ramirez heard it from social media over the ugly miscue.

The seven-time All-Star Ramirez, 34, is usually known as a sure thing at third base. But sometimes, the unexpected can happen in the postseason.

Ramirez is also a big-time troll and trash-talker, even when it comes to his own teammates. During Tuesday’s ALCS game though, Ramirez ended up being the one who got trolled.

The Boston Red Sox could be facing a real reckoning this offseason.

Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran is projected to earn around $11.1 million in arbitration next season, but the Red Sox seem unlikely to want to give him that figure (per a report this week by Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic). As a result, Duran could either agree to a lesser deal or ask to be non-tendered, allowing him to hit free agency.

Duran did notably already play out the 2026 season for the Red Sox on a lesser salary. He agreed to a one-year, $7.7 million deal with the team last winter, overriding his original $8 million club option.

The lefty-hitting Duran, 30, has been with Boston for his entire MLB career (since 2021) and was an All-Star in 2024. But he had a forgettable year in 2026, batting a career-worst .207 over 151 games (though Duran still managed to produce 20 home runs, 69 RBIs, and 21 stolen bases).

Duran also caused some problems in Boston over the course of the year. He crashed out on a teammate during a game in July and managed to get into even more altercations with fans as well.

We learned several months ago that the Red Sox were potentially willing to part ways with Duran. With 22-year-old phenom Roman Anthony waiting in the wings at left field, that might just become a reality come this winter.

Pablo Torre is looking to continue his generational run.

The award-winning investigative journalist Torre spoke this week at Front Office Sports’ “Tuned In” summit. During the appearance, Torre revealed that he is planning to investigate the situation of Philadelphia 76ers star LeBron James, particularly when it comes to James’ use of a Fanatics helicopter.

“It’s something that I also have been watching,” said Torre of the situation with James. “I know that Fanatics logo. I saw that.

“On that story, I will say that we are very interested,” Torre added about his team. “We’re also getting tips from NBA owners, who are sending me [the James helicopter story] being like, ‘What is this?'”

James, who just signed with the 76ers earlier this offseason, will actually be living in New York while he plays for the team and will be taking helicopter rides back and forth. But earlier this month, it was revealed that James would be receiving the costly chopper trips completely for free as part of his endorsement deal with Fanatics (read the full details here).

Meanwhile, Torre has become a major star in the world of journalism thanks to his investigative work, most notably breaking the Kawhi Leonard salary cap circumvention story that resulted in the LA Clippers being docked five future first-round draft picks. While it is unclear at this point if the situation with James is even remotely similar, Torre is now committed to getting to the bottom of that one as well.

The writing may be on the wall for one longtime New York Knicks player.

Knicks guard Miles McBride is expected to be a candidate for trade this season, according to a report this week by veteran NBA writer Marc Stein. Additionally, Stein notes that rival teams are anticipating that McBride could become available.

McBride, still only 26, has been a member of the Knicks for his entire NBA career (since 2021). He has blossomed into a fan favorite, serving as a spark-plug scorer off the bench for New York over the years.

The former second-round pick McBride is also coming off his best career season. He averaged 12.0 points per game on a career-high 41.3 percent from deep in a sixth-man role as the Knicks eventually went on to win the 2026 NBA championship.

But McBride is also eligible for an extension as he is entering the final year of his contract this season at a paltry $3.96 million. McBride is clearly deserving of a raise at this point, but the second-apron-conscious Knicks do not seem to be willing to give it to him.

Recently, the Knicks decided to shut down contract negotiations with all of their extension-eligible players until later on in the season, affecting McBride as well as some All-Star talents on the roster. As for McBride himself, it sounds like he could have some suitors at the February trade deadline who might be willing to take a risk on his ability to potentially produce more in a greater role.

Shohei Ohtani’s body may be failing him, but his confident remains unshaken.

The Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Ohtani spoke with reporters on Tuesday. During the interview, Ohtani said (through his interpreter Will Ireton) that he remains confident in his ability to help the Dodgers win in spite of his ongoing health woes.

“The symptoms shouldn’t be the reason why I can’t hit,” said Ohtani, per Jack Harris of The California Post. “The results, [I] take full responsibility.

“The number one priority is for the team to win,” Ohtani continued. “So whether that be for me to contribute on the offensive side, I do want to feel confident in the approach that I’m taking on that day, whether that be mechanical or anything else. So that’s really just been my focus overall.”

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts also told reporters earlier in the day that Ohtani will remain in the lineup for Game 3 of the NLCS against the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday.

Ohtani, the four-time MVP, has been hobbled by some well-documented knee and biceps issues over these last several weeks and months (even requiring a stint on the injured list in September). As a result, Ohtani has looked severely compromised, batting a woeful .150 with a .411 OPS, zero extra-base hits, and seven strikeouts through his first six postseason games this year.

During the Dodgers’ Game 2 loss to the Brewers on Monday, Ohtani even produced an extremely embarrassing strikeout as part of a forgettable 0-for-4 performance. There was some talk that the Dodgers would consider a drastic move with Ohtani amid their 0-2 hole in the NLCS, but that will not ultimately come to pass for now.

James Cook is one of the most productive running backs in the league, but the Buffalo Bills standout may have to sweat his playing time for the near future.

Bills coach Joe Brady warned Tuesday that Cook’s playing time could be negatively impacted if his fumbling issues continue. Cook fumbled twice during the Bills’ 37-34 overtime win over the Los Angeles Rams on Monday and lost one of them.

“We’re putting the ball in harm’s way. We know the way we lose football games is we turn the ball over,” Brady said. “He’s doing so many good things running the football, and I don’t want to lose sight of how great he’s running the ball right now, but putting the ball on the ground is negating all the positive.

“I have all the confidence in him. That’s why I put him right back out there. But at some point there has to be consequences when we’re putting negative stuff out there. … It’s gotta improve or the carries are gonna decrease.”

Presumably, benching Cook is not something the Bills would do lightly. He tallied 1,621 rushing yards last season to lead the league, and his yards per game have actually risen to 106 this season. However, he has four fumbles in five games, and has lost two of them.

Cook was well aware of the fact that he got away with one on Monday night. Brady has firmly put him on notice if he did not already know it.

The Florida Gators suffered an ugly loss to South Carolina on Saturday, and the performance was bad enough that it apparently sparked a minor crisis within coach Jon Sumrall’s family.

Sumrall divulged that his 13-year-old son left early during Saturday’s 38-19 loss at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in Gainesville, Fla. That was not the ultimate insult, however. The Gators coach said his son sent him a text message after the game, warning him that “I don’t know that this is forgivable.”

Obviously, the comment was tongue-in-cheek, and Sumrall is sharing it with amusement. Still, nobody really wants to hear their own son that disgusted with one’s coaching performance.

It has certainly been a season of peaks and valleys for the Gators in Sumrall’s first year in charge. The team started 4-0, which even he did not expect, but has now lost two straight against Missouri and South Carolina. The defeat against the Gamecocks was the team’s first home loss of the season, however.

Florida’s next two games are against Texas and Georgia. Sumrall must be hoping things don’t get too ugly against such quality opponents.

The Chicago Bears will be without one of their most important defenders for the next two games.

Bears edge rusher Montez Sweat received a two-game suspension Tuesday for a violation of the league’s performance-enhancing substance policy. He will miss games against the Atlanta Falcons and New England Patriots as a result of the suspension.

Sweat has started all five games for the Bears this season and has collected two sacks. He established himself as a key part of the Chicago defense last season, when he tallied ten sacks in 17 games.

Sweat’s best overall season came in 2023, when he racked up 12.5 sacks while playing for the Bears and Washington Commanders.

There is no great time to lose a starter for two games, but this is particularly poor for the Bears, who are coming off an ugly loss to the Green Bay Packers. They have also had issues with depth at the edge position this year, including one player retiring mid-season instead of staying on with the team.

The Minnesota Timberwolves are fairly openly telegraphing that they are not all that upset to see Julius Randle go.

Timberwolves coach Chris Finch offered up a quote about his team’s acquisition of LaMelo Ball from the Charlotte Hornets during the offseason, and it was a pretty obvious shot at Randle. Finch emphasized the amount of joy Ball brings to the Wolves, and seemingly contrasted that with what Minnesota subtracted.

“We referred to ourselves as a moody team in the last couple of years at times, and it’s probably gotten in our way. We’ve traded moodiness for giddiness, so we’ve got to kind of get back to some sort of equilibrium,” Finch said, via Mike Vorkunov of The Athletic.

Randle and Naz Reid were the two players Minnesota traded for Ball. It was Reid who used the word “moodiness” to describe the team’s issues last season, and there was ample speculation that he was talking about Randle, who struggled to produce in the team’s second-round playoff loss to the San Antonio Spurs.

Finch’s use of the word “moodiness” certainly seems intentional. At this point, it’s pretty clear that the Timberwolves think they are engaging in addition by subtraction by trading Randle away.

One NFL superstar is putting the blame firmly on Jayden Daniels for the disastrous ending to Sunday’s game between the Washington Commanders and New York Giants.

Green Bay Packers edge rusher Micah Parsons had some harsh words for Daniels on the latest episode of his “The Edge” podcast. Parsons said Daniels might end up costing Commanders head coach Dan Quinn his job, and that Daniels has no excuse for not being ready to run another play with the clock running down in overtime.

“Jayden Daniels probably cost my man Dan Quinn his job,” Parsons said. “I’m a big Jayden Daniels fan, but the reality is he probably cost a lot of people their jobs this past weekend.

“There’s no way I’m taking a sack with 14 seconds and no timeouts. It would be different if Jayden Daniels was a rookie. This is your third year. You’ve been to the NFC Championship game. You’ve been in big moments before. Even after a sack, you’re casually getting up. Look at the play. He’s not even urgently getting up.”

While Quinn took responsibility for the fiasco that cost the Commanders a chance to win Sunday’s game, Daniels is taking plenty of the blame for the confusion and lack of urgency. Parsons’ comments are more pointed than most, and it should be noted that he played for Quinn when the Commanders coach was the Dallas Cowboys’ defensive coordinator.

For now, Daniels does not appear to have cost Quinn his job. It may, however, be a matter of time with Washington off to a 1-3-1 start.

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen got distracted during his postgame interview by a fight that broke out at the end of Monday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams.

Cameras caught Rams offensive lineman Alaric Jackson throwing a punch at Buffalo’s Bradley Chubb following the Bills’ 37-34 overtime win over the Rams. The abrupt confrontation caught everyone on the field by surprise, Allen included.

Allen was doing an interview with ESPN Deportes when the fight broke out, and it nearly derailed the entire conversation.

Ultimately, there did not turn out to be much need to separate anything. Jackson was led away without much further incident, and Chubb kept his cool and did not escalate the situation.

The Rams were plenty frustrated after their loss, and it permeated through the entire team. Allen’s indifferent reaction pretty much sums up how much the Bills cared about that.

The Los Angeles Rams are making a fairly predictable change after their Week 5 overtime loss to the Buffalo Bills.

The Rams are releasing kicker Harrison Mevis one day after he missed two key field goals against the Bills, according to multiple reports.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported that the Rams moved quickly to sign kicker Blake Grupe off the New York Jets’ practice squad as a replacement for Mevis.

Mevis missed a 50-yard field goal on the Rams’ opening drive Monday, but the real talking point was him falling victim to a blocked kick on a game-winning overtime try (video here). Coach Sean McVay foreshadowed the move by openly lamenting his lack of aggressiveness in overtime and settling for a kick attempt instead of trying to win the game with his offense.

The Rams are no stranger to special teams issues, but they just have not found a way to solve them over the course of multiple seasons. Mevis is the latest to go, but there does seem to be a structural problem within the organization.

The Seattle Mariners need a new manager, and they may take the unusual step of hiring one directly away from an AL West rival.

The Mariners plan to meet with Houston Astros manager Joe Espada regarding their managerial vacancy, according to Mark Feinsand, Daniel Kramer, and Brian McTaggart of MLB.com. Espada is still employed by the Astros, but the team granted the Mariners permission to meet with him.

Espada’s contract with the Astros is set to expire at the end of the season. The team has not made any public indication of whether they plan to bring him back or not.

The Mariners are making wholesale changes following a hugely disappointing 2026 season that saw them go just 76-86. In addition to letting former manager Dan Wilson go, they are overhauling their coaching staff. Some big names from their roster are expected to move on as well.

Espada was Dusty Baker’s successor as Astros manager, and has largely overseen a team stuck in a transitional period. He is 256-229 overall with two AL West titles to his name during his three-year tenure.

Mike Tomlin is not known for being nervous when it comes to facing off against NFL foes. There is one player, however, that he wants nothing to do with it.

The former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach refused to even say the name of Baltimore Ravens running back Derrick Henry while covering Sunday’s game between the Ravens and Atlanta Falcons. Instead, Tomlin only referred to Henry as “the big runner.”

Tomlin battled Henry for years, first while Henry was with the Tennessee Titans and later once he joined the Ravens. The former Steelers coach had a front-row seat to some of Henry’s most memorable moments, whether he liked it or not.

Tomlin certainly is not the only coach terrified of Henry, who keeps rewriting the record books at age 32. He did not disappoint on Sunday, as he rushed for 102 yards in Baltimore’s overtime win.

Henry has seven 1,000-yard seasons to his name, and he appears well on his way to an eighth. Through five games, he already has 476 rushing yards and seven touchdowns.

The Los Angeles Rams were on their way to taking down Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills on Monday — until they weren’t.

Like two champion heavyweights, the Bills and the Rams traded big blows throughout the contest until Buffalo emerged on top in overtime, 37-34.

The Rams looked to send Buffalo to sleep after forcing a fumble in overtime and setting up what would have been a game-winning field goal. 

But Buffalo’s Greg Rousseau blocked Rams kicker Harrison Mervis’ attempt. 

Moments later, Bills kicker Tyler Bass finished it off with a game-winning 45-yard field goal. 

The Rams hit a historic low point with the tough loss to Buffalo, as they wasted all the positives they showed in the contest. 

According to OptaSTATS, Los Angeles became the first team in league history to lose a game despite racking up at least 400 total yards, recording 30 or more first downs, scoring five or more touchdowns, finishing without a turnover and converting at least 50% of its third-down attempts.

The Rams are the only team in NFL history to: amass 400+ total yards gain 30+ first downs score 5+ TDs convert 50% of their 3rd downs have 0 turnovers …and yet lose the game.

Matthew Stafford had a huge performance that ultimately was not enough to pull LA to a victory. He went 40/54 for 383 passing yards and three touchdowns, while Puka Nacua had 138 receiving yards and a touchdown. Davante Adams, meanwhile, found the end zone three times.

Los Angeles’ loss also continues the team’s pattern of alternating wins and losses. The Rams have alternated between wins and losses on their way to a 2-3 start to the 2026 NFL season.

Sean McVay’s team will aim to get back up in Week 6 with a home game against the Arizona Cardinals.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have their backs against the wall, as they find themselves down 2-0 to the Milwaukee Brewers in the National League Championship Series.

The Dodgers swept Milwaukee in the same round last season, but the Brewers are turning the tables on LA this time around.

For former New York Yankees superstar shortstop Derek Jeter, the Dodgers won’t survive the Brewers unless Los Angeles’ offense finds its groove.

“I agree, the Dodgers are in trouble unless they can figure out how to string together some hits because on top of them being in a little bit of trouble, now the Milwaukee Brewers offense is getting hot and [Brice] Turang is getting hot. [Christian] Yelich is getting hot. [William] Contreras continues to hit,” Jeter said following the Brewers’ 7-4 win in Game 2 on Monday at American Family Field in Milwaukee, Wisc.

That is going to be easier said than done for the Dodgers, but if they are also too talented to be counted out. Through two games in the NLCS, Los Angeles has hit just 10-for-59 with an ugly .447 OPS. In Game 2, the Dodgers went just 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position.

Perhaps a friendlier atmosphere will give Los Angeles the spark it needs.

The Philadelphia Eagles’ running back room has another injury to deal with.

With Saquon Barkley and  Tank Bigsby banged up, the Eagles saw running back Will Shipley go down with a lower-body injury during Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.

Shipley left the contest in the second quarter and did not return.

It was later revealed that Shipley “suffered a partial tear of his plantar fascia,” according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Schefter added that the injury could keep Shipley out for multiple weeks, adding more headaches for Philadelphia’s backfield.

Shipley made an impact before leaving the Jaguars game, as he put the Eagles on the board with a rushing score in the second period. After he left, the Eagles were led on the ground by Dameon Pierce, but he only came up with 14 rushing yards on 11 carries.

Bigsby is on injured reserve, while Barkley’s status remains up in the air after a hamstring injury forced him to miss the game against Jacksonville.

Between their injury woes and underperformance on the field, it is just not a great time for Philadelphia, which is 2-3 and on a three-game losing skid.

The Eagles will look to turn things around in Week 6 against the Carolina Panthers at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. Pa.

Josh Allen led the Buffalo Bills to a 37-34 win over the Los Angeles Rams on Monday, but he seemingly couldn’t stop gushing over his counterpart after the contest.

Allen showed nothing but respect for Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford following the Bills’ huge Week 5 win at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif.

“He’s the MVP of last season for a reason. He’s one of the greatest, if not the greatest thrower of the football of all time. He’s an awesome dude. He’s extremely humble. He’s as tough as they come,” Allen told Scott Van Pelt on SportsCenter after the game. 

“He’s what every quarterback should aspire to be. I feel like I’ve learned a lot from him, watching him over the years. So I’ve started developing a little bit of a relationship with him over the last couple of seasons. I’m just a huge fan of his,” added the 2024 NFL Most Valuable Player.

Allen and Stafford each put on a show for their respective teams in their “Monday Night Football” showdown. Allen did most of his damage on the ground, leading everyone in the game with 121 rushing yards and a touchdown on 10 carries, while adding 210 passing yards and a touchdown against an interception on 12/19 passing.

As for Stafford, he had a performance worthy of all the praise he got from Allen despite Los Angeles’ loss. He went 40/54 for 383 passing yards and three touchdowns with zero interceptions

The Rams had Buffalo on the ropes in overtime, but a blocked field-goal attempt by Los Angeles kicker Harrison Mevis set up the Bills’ game-winning drive, capped by a field goal from Tyler Bass.

Hailee Steinfeld had a proud wife moment on Monday. After watching her husband, Buffalo Bills superstar quarterback Josh Allen, pick up 21 rushing yards on 2nd-and-17 with under two minutes remaining in the fourth quarter against the Los Angeles Rams, Steinfeld was shown on the broadcast looking absolutely hyped.

It was just one of the many plays Allen made in that game at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif., that left fans in awe of his abilties. 

The former NFL Most Valuable Player went 12/19 for 210 passing yards and a touchdown with an interception, while also rushing for 121 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries. He had more rushing yards than the entire Rams backfield. 

Together with running back James Cook III, Allen consistently lit up Los Angeles’ defense against the run. Cook, despite his fumbles, had 111 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries, as the Bills came away with a 37-34 overtime win over Matthew Stafford and the Rams, while improving to 4-1 through five weeks of football in the 2026 NFL season.

Steinfeld has always been very supportive of Allen, especially now that they’re married. They tied the knot in 2025 and welcomed their first child in April.

James Cook rode an emotional roller coaster on Monday during the Buffalo Bills’ stunning victory over the Los Angeles Rams.

The Bills running back nearly cost his team a Week 5 overtime victory at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif. Wide receiver Khalil Shakir’s 57-yard catch-and-run got Buffalo near the red zone just three plays into the extra period.

But Cook, facing 1st-and-10 at the Rams’ 22, ran up the gut on the next play and fumbled possession away to Aaron Donald. It was Cook’s second fumble of the game.

Cook was a sullen figure on the sidelines as the Rams marched down the field, needing only a field goal to win.

Cook couldn’t even watch as the Rams lined up for a 48-yard field goal attempt. He had his back turned to the field as Bills linebacker Greg Rousseau deflected Harris Mevis’ kick, giving both the Bills and Cook new life.

Sean McVay felt the pangs of regret immediately after Monday night’s overtime loss to the Buffalo Bills.

The Los Angeles Rams head coach was uncharacteristically conservative late in the Week 5 contest at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif. After a Buffalo turnover to open OT, the Rams had 3rd-and-5 at the Bills’ 30 with a chance to win the game.

Instead of going for a first down or even a knockout blow on a deep pass, the Rams handed the ball off to running back Kyren Williams for no gain. The Rams’ 48-yard field goal attempt was blocked, leaving the door open for the Bills to win 37-34 on a 45-yard kick from Tyler Bass.

Speaking to reporters after the game, McVay claimed he was “sick” over his lack of creativity when asked about the pivotal 3rd-down play.

“Yeah, I wish I would have had a better play call and gone for it, got it a lot tighter,” McVay said.

“I’m sick right now with myself. … I’m sick that we came up short. I’ll be regretting kicking that and not having a better call to be able to go for it on third down and go to fourth, or whatever it was. That’s on me.”

Despite McVay’s self-criticism, the Rams coach said he was “proud” of how his team battled in what was a wild finish to Week 5.

Even if Mevis’ kick went unblocked, a field goal try from him at that range would have been far from automatic.

The second-year pro entered Monday’s contest 3-for-5 on field goal attempts ranging from 40 to 49 feet. He has not even attempted a kick from 50+ yards this season.

The Rams have had one of the NFL’s worst special teams units for years. Fans had hoped those issues would be erased after the Rams fired special teams coordinator Chase Blackburn in December. But alas, those problems persisted on Monday night.

Joe Davis caught unwanted heat from the booth yet again during Monday’s NLCS Game 2.

Davis was on the call as the Los Angeles Dodgers battled the Milwaukee Brewers at American Family Field in Milwaukee, Wis. The postseason clash was a back-and-forth affair featuring series-shifting hits from both sides, with the Brewers eventually coming out on top 7-4.

Some fans felt Davis, the Dodgers’ regular-season play-by-play man, didn’t show as much enthusiasm for the Brewers’ big plays.

The veteran announcer’s call during Christian Yelich’s go-ahead bases-loaded single in the bottom of the 3rd inning left some spectators wanting more.

Kevin Cash curiously went against his own principles during Game 1 of the ALCS.

The Tampa Bay Rays hosted the Cleveland Guardians on Monday for the opener for their best-of-seven playoff series. Tampa Bay was largely cruising through the first six innings, taking a 2-1 lead over Cleveland at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla.

But the Rays manager Cash curiously decided to stick with starter Drew Rasmussen to begin the seventh inning. The bold move immediately backfired as Rasmussen allowed a game-tying home run to Guardians catcher Patrick Bailey on the very first pitch of the inning.

The two-time All-Star Rasmussen had struck out seven batters but had also allowed seven hits through his first six innings of work. With Rasmussen at a pitch count of 90 on the evening, that seemed like the perfect time for Cash to turn to his fully-rested bullpen.

Ironically, Cash is known for having unusually quick hooks for his starters in the playoffs (notoriously pulling his then-ace Blake Snell from a pivotal game in the 2020 World Series). But during Monday’s Game 1, Cash went too far in the opposite direction and ended up costing his team.

Shohei Ohtani is no longer a lock to be on the Los Angeles Dodgers’ lineup card for Game 3 of the NLCS.

The four-time MVP looked like a replacement-level player in Monday’s Game 2 against the Milwaukee Brewers at American Family Field in Milwaukee, Wis. Ohtani went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in the 7-4 loss, including a particularly embarrassing whiff where Shohei had trouble even holding onto the bat.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts was asked about potentially sitting Ohtani for Wednesday’s pivotal Game 3 as the series shifts to L.A. The Dodgers skipper did not rule out the possibility, stating he would have a “conversation” with his star the following day.

“Yeah, I mean obviously it hasn’t been good,” Roberts told The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal.

“He doesn’t feel great. I think for me, it’s having a conversation with him tomorrow, kind of try to figure out what’s best for him, what’s best for us. He certainly has earned that conversation and deserves it. I’ll have [that conversation] with him tomorrow.”

Ohtani has been dealing with knee and biceps issues since before the MLB All-Star break, injuries that eventually pushed the Dodgers to shut Shohei down as a pitcher for the rest of the year.

In early September, the Dodgers’ two-way star expressed a desire to focus exclusively on hitting. But even that side of his game has abandoned him in postseason play. Ohtani’s hitless Game 2 dropped him to 3-for-20 (.150) in the playoffs without a single extra-base hit and seven strikeouts.

ESPN announcers Joe Buck and Troy Aikman called out the officiating in the second half of Monday night’s game between the Buffalo Bills and Los Angeles Rams.

The Bills trailed the Rams 14-13 midway through the third quarter at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif. The visitors had 2nd-and-21 near midfield when Josh Allen tried to hit Dalton Kincaid for a potential 15-yard gain.

Allen’s ball never had a chance as Rams defensive back Quentin Lake held his target down with two hands. No flags were thrown on the play, much to the astonishment of Buck, Aikman, and ESPN rules analyst Russell Yurk.

Aikman: “I can see why [Rams safety Quentin Lake] was looking [at the referee].

Yurk: “Yeah, Troy, I agree with you. To me, that’s clearly a foul.”

Buck: “I mean, that is a massive miss on not throwing a flag there.”

Yurk: “That should be defensive pass interference, which is a pretty good chunk of yards.”

Davante Adams has become the latest opponent to dunk on CJ Gardner-Johnson.

Adams and the Los Angeles Rams played on this week’s edition of “Monday Night Football” against Gardner-Johnson and the Buffalo Bills. The Week 5 matchup took place at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif.

In the second quarter, the Rams had a 1st-and-goal play from the Bills’ 4-yard line. Adams ended up beating the Bills safety Gardner-Johnson, who was watching him in coverage, with a corner route for the touchdown.

After securing the TD grab, Adams began to taunt Gardner-Johnson. He followed a retreating Gardner-Johnson and had some heated words for him.

The former Super Bowl champion Gardner-Johnson is one of the biggest trash talkers in the league. Even just this season alone, Gardner-Johnson has run his mouth at everybody from his former teams to even Shedeur Saunders.

But that also makes Gardner-Johnson a prime target for blowback when things do not go his way. Now Adams has added himself to the list of opponents who have taunted Gardner-Johnson right back (including the likes of Baker Mayfield and Deebo Samuel).

The Dallas Cowboys are turning to a forgotten name amid their defensive issues.

Dallas announced on Monday that they are hiring Mike Pettine. The former NFL head coach Pettine will be joining the Cowboys as a senior defensive assistant.

“He’s a front-seven expert,” Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer was quoted as saying of Pettine. “But a guy with that type of experience, he’s done it all.”

Pettine, 60, is a veteran defensive mind who previously served as defensive coordinator of the New York Jets, the Buffalo Bills, and the Green Bay Packers. He also had a brief stint as the head coach of the Cleveland Browns from 2014-15 but went just 10-22 (.313) overall before being fired amid organizational infighting and an infamous saga with Johnny Manziel.

As for the Cowboys, they are off to a 2-3 start this season after losing in Week 5 to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Dallas has allowed 27.2 points per game thus far (26th in the NFL) and a very ugly 395.4 yards per game (31st in the NFL).

Pettine’s most recent stint was with the Minnesota Vikings, for whom he had served as the assistant head coach and outside linebackers coach for the last two seasons. Now Pettine is being called in as a cleaner to help fix the ailing Cowboys defense.

Bill Simmons is writing the latest chapter in his beef with ESPN.

The Ringer CEO Simmons took a vulgar shot at his former employer ESPN on the latest episode of his self-titled podcast. Simmons was answering listener mailbag questions as part of a segment on his podcast, and one listener referenced an old video series from Grantland, the popular blog that Simmons used to run when he was with The Worldwide Leader.

Simmons then proceeded to rail against ESPN in response. He let off some steam about the fact that ESPN had liquidated Grantland’s YouTube channel, meaning that viewers could no longer watch old video features.

“You can’t see it because a little after I left ESPN, for some reason, because they’re vindictive f–king s–thead a–holes, they liquidated our Grantland YouTube channel,” said Simmons. “I still can’t believe they did it.

“There’s four years of videos that we did that were, a lot of them were ahead of their time,” Simmons added. “They were just like, ‘F–k it, we’ll just liquidate all of it.’ So they can go eat a big fat d–k.”

Simmons worked for ESPN from 2001-15, becoming one of their most popular sportswriters and eventually launching an impressive multimedia footprint as well with “The Bill Simmons Podcast.” But Simmons also had a tense relationship with ESPN during his time there, including a prominent suspension from the network in 2014.

Eventually, Simmons left ESPN and launched The Ringer in 2016. But the feud has continued to go strong over the years with everything from a war of words with former ESPN president John Skipper to Simmons more recently slamming the network over the way that they treated Jalen Rose.

Shohei Ohtani continues to look compromised out there.

The Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Ohtani had another rough showing during Monday’s Game 2 of the NLCS against the Milwaukee Brewers. Ohtani once again went hitless (0-for-4) and struck out twice on the day.

During the sixth inning at American Family Field in Milwaukee, Wisc., Ohtani produced a particularly humiliating whiff. On a 1-2 pitch that was way outside from Milwaukee reliever JoJo Romero, Ohtani swung and missed and lost ahold of his bat in the process.

The four-time MVP Ohtani is now hitting 3-for-20 (.150) this postseason with zero extra base hits and seven total strikeouts. He has been hobbled by knee and biceps injuries for the last few weeks and months, apparently to the point that he looked more like Bartolo Colon at the plate in Game 2.

Milwaukee went on to defeat the Dodgers by a final of 7-4 to take a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series. If Ohtani, who has been all over the Dodgers’ lineup this postseason as a result of his struggles, does not figure things out quickly, his team will be in some real trouble (if they are not already).

The Sacramento Kings are ready to throw Ben Simmons right into the fire.

Simmons is expected to be in the starting lineup for the Kings’ Oct. 21 regular season opener against the LA Clippers, Marc J. Spears of Andscape reported on Monday. Spears adds that Simmons will likely be starting alongside rookie guard Darius Acuff Jr.

The 30-year-old Simmons is making his return to the NBA this season after sitting out the entire 2025-26 campaign. He managed to land a one-year deal from the Kings over the summer with an interesting contract structure.

Still, Simmons, a three-time All-Star, was not even a starter during his most recent stint in the NBA with the LA Clippers in 2025. But Simmons has apparently impressed Sacramento enough during training camp and the early part of preseason that he has already won a starting job for them.

The move makes at least some sense on paper. Simmons is a seasoned veteran ball-handler who should be able to take some pressure off the 19-year-old lottery pick Acuff as Acuff adjusts to life in the pros.

But Simmons has also managed to produce some embarrassing moments during his first few weeks in Sacramento. Putting Simmons in the starting lineup coming off a full-year hiatus might be a mess for the Kings, but that probably does not matter at this point since they are rebuilding and are largely unserious otherwise as well.

A Dallas Cowboys legend is not happy about quarterback Dak Prescott’s supposed response to a heckling stadium worker after the team’s loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last Thursday.

Former Cowboys wide receiver Michael Irvin suggested that Prescott was out of line in how he responded to a stadium worker who could be heard calling the Cowboys’ performance “embarrassing” after their 24-16 home loss. Irvin said the worker was speaking for Cowboys fans everywhere, and said Prescott should be more focused on getting the on-field product sorted out.

I love him more than anything. … But I don’t like that he took that other guy’s job because he said it was embarrassing,” Irvin said on ESPN’s “First Take.” “The guy just spoke the Gospel. Irvin implies that the worker in question was fired, but this has not been confirmed, and it has been reported that the worker was not even a Cowboys staff member. A number of individuals have gone viral on social media claiming to be the worker in question, but none have actually been verified.

Regardless, Prescott did not like the comment, and he made that clear in the moment (video here). Irvin is right, however, that most Cowboys fans felt the exact same way in the moment.

If Nick Sirianni ultimately loses his job as head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles, he may look back on one moment Sunday to show when things started to turn on him.

Video emerged of the Eagles’ sideline reacting angrily to the Jacksonville Jaguars’ game-winning field goal during Sunday’s game at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London. The kick was only made possible by Sirianni’s mismanagement of the clock in the final minute of the game.

The video might make for uncomfortable viewing for Sirianni, who was immediately criticized for his handling of Sunday’s game. After the game, the coach took the blame for the fiasco that allowed the Jaguars to both field the kickoff and get into range for Cam Little’s 57-yard winner.

On one hand, Sirianni is 61-29 as Philadelphia’s head coach, and has won a Super Bowl with the team. On the other hand, they still look poorly coached at times, and mistakes like Sunday’s might give Roseman something to think about.

Tennessee Titans quarterback Cam Ward has had virtually no team success since being drafted first overall in the 2025 NFL Draft. In fact, things have gotten bad enough that Ward is starting to field some absolutely brutal questions at press conferences.

Fresh off a 26-3 loss to the Houston Texans on Sunday, Ward was outright asked if he has “gotten used to losing.” The second-year quarterback is just 3-19 as an NFL starter following the team’s Week 5 defeat.

“No, I’m not a loser,” Ward responded. “The record may say that we are right now, but at the end of the day, you got to go through some stuff to try to get wins.”

While the 0-5 Titans have bigger problems than their quarterback, Ward has not exactly been convincing this season. He is averaging just 179.2 passing yards per game and has three touchdowns to three interceptions. Coach Robert Saleh even had to make clear that he was not considering benching Ward following Sunday’s performance.

As much as Ward has struggled, it is tough to place all the blame on him when this is the kind of protection he is getting from his offensive line.

Dan Quinn is facing questions about his job security following the Washington Commanders’ meltdown on the final play of overtime Sunday.

The Commanders are unlikely to fire Quinn this week after the team botched the final two plays of overtime in Sunday’s 27-27 tie with the New York Giants at Northwest Stadium in Landover, Md. However, according to Mark Maske of Front Office Sports, Quinn’s exit is increasingly seen as inevitable following Washington’s 1-3-1 start to the year.

Quinn is taking heat after the Commanders literally ran out of time to get a play off while in field goal range as time expired in overtime. The speculation was only boosted when Magic Johnson, a Commanders minority owner, shared his embarrassment over how the game ended on X.

Expectations were high this year with Daniels healthy, but the team has been unable to string wins together even with him on the field.

Despite the record, Quinn is still well-regarded as a coach. Between this and the infamous 28-3 collapse he suffered as coach of the Atlanta Falcons in the Super Bowl, however, there are some big letdowns on his record.

The UCLA Bruins’ resurgent season is suddenly in crisis due to an injury to quarterback Nico Iamaleava.

Iamaleava is expected to miss the remainder of the season with a knee injury he suffered in UCLA’s win over Oregon on Saturday, per Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports. The former five-star recruit left the game after getting tangled up with two Oregon defenders on a play.

The Bruins have been one of the biggest surprises in college football after jumping out to a 5-0 start on the season. They are set to face Wisconsin at home in their next game on Saturday.

The NFL has unsurprisingly taken action against San Francisco 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw for his actions during Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks.

Greenlaw received a one-game suspension for headbutting Seattle linebacker Ernest Jones during the Niners’ 32-29 win on Sunday. Jones, notably, was not wearing a helmet when the incident occurred.

Greenlaw plans to appeal the suspension, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

One could argue that Greenlaw is fortunate to get away with only a game suspension. He was ejected from the game, as his conduct unquestionably veered into dangerous territory.

Greenlaw is no stranger to NFL discipline, having a lengthy history of incidents like these. In fact, it is not even the first time he has gotten into it on an opposing team’s sideline, as he memorably sparred with Philadelphia Eagles staffer Big Dom during a 2023 game. Just last week, he had to be restrained from going after a rival coach following a game.

Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin had a fairly significant complaint about the officiating during LSU’s upset loss to Kentucky on Saturday night.

Kentucky took a 21-17 lead into halftime of Saturday’s game thanks to quarterback Kenny Minchey’s quarterback sneak at the goal line, though the play appeared to be stopped short of the line. A second effort pushed Minchey into the end zone as referees let the play continue.

Kiffin claimed Monday that one of the officials told him there was “too much at stake” to blow the whistle and stop the play with Minchey short of the goal line, even when he appeared to be stacked up.

“The line judge just said that, in that situation, there was too much at stake,” Kiffin said, via Doug Samuels of Football Scoop. “He said he would have been killed if he had blown the whistle for the play being stopped, even though it appeared to be stopped.”

“My complaint is that you can’t refuse to blow the whistle because it’s such a big play. If you would have blown that whistle on first down, or with 10 minutes left in the game, for forward progress being stopped, then blow it for protection and for the way the ruling is supposed to work. Don’t not blow it because it’s such a big play. The rules are the rules. If you see it that way, then see it that way.”

If this is accurate, Kiffin is right to be annoyed. While forward progress is a judgement call, officials should not let outside noise influence their calls, though that is easier said than done. The play ended up mattering in a major way since Kentucky went on to win 35-34 in overtime.

Don’t expect Kentucky fans to have much sympathy for Kiffin. To them, this will probably just sound like sour grapes.

The Boston Celtics didn’t play a tribute video for their former star forward, Jaylen Brown, during a preseason game against the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday at TD Garden in Boston, Mass.

But he’ll get one eventually.

According to Adam Himmelsbach of The Boston Globe, Boston plans to show a tribute video for Brown the next time the 76ers roll up in Beantown.

“Not surprising, but the Celtics intend to show a tribute video for Jaylen Brown when the 76ers play their first regular season game in Boston in January, not at tonight’s preseason game,” Himmelsbach shared in a post on X.

It would have been awkward for the Celtics to turn off the lights at TD Garden for a Brown tribute video during a preseason game. That probably would have also done more damage to the relationship between the two sides.

Brown had an acrimonious exit from Boston in the offseason, when the former NBA Finals Most Valuable Player was traded by the Celtics to the 76ers in exchange for a package that featured Paul George.

As for the preseason game between the Celtics and the 76ers, the home team won in a blowout, with Boston coming away with a 144-106 win. Brown, however, didn’t play and decided to spend most of the evening at TD Garden in the locker room, according to NBC Sports Boston sideline reporter Abby Chin.

The Baltimore Ravens got the job done on Sunday even without Lamar Jackson in uniform. 

With Jackson inactive for the game against the Atlanta Falcons at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Ga., due to an ankle injury, the Ravens turned to his backup, Tyler Huntley, to fill in under center.

When it was all said and done, Huntley and the Ravens came out on top with a 30-23 overtime win. He also accomplished a feat no other NFL quarterback had done before.

“Tyler Huntley is the only QB in NFL history to go 10-for-10 or better with a passing TD and a rushing TD in the final 2 minutes of the 4th quarter plus OT,” OptaSTATS shared in a post on X.

Huntley found his groove when the Ravens needed him most. Atlanta led by eight after a Nick Folk field goal with 2:31 left in the fourth quarter. Baltimore responded immediately with a six-play touchdown drive, followed by a successful two-point conversion to tie the score at 23-23.

Huntley was still feeling it in overtime, orchestrating the Ravens’ 14-play touchdown drive to put Baltimore ahead for good. The Ravens’ defense did the rest, intercepting a Tua Tagovailoa pass to seal the win.

Overall, Huntley passed for 201 yards on 24/32 completions with two touchdowns and zero interceptions.

Baltimore should feel even more confident in its quarterback situation heading into Week 6, with or without Jackson, considering Huntley’s performance on Sunday.

Ben Simmons’ NBA comeback has turned a lot of heads, and as far as Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr is concerned, he’s just happy to see the former NBA Rookie of the Year winner back in the league.

“I wish him well,” Kerr said after the Warriors defeated Simmons and the Kings in a preseason game on Saturday at Chase Center in San Francisco, Calif., via Brenden Nunes of Sactown Sports 1140. 

“I hope he has a really successful comeback, and I’m glad that he’s back in the league and competing. He’s a good testament to perseverance, coming back and giving another shot. I love that,” added the four-time NBA head coach.

Simmons was once one of the league’s best players, particularly during his time with the Philadelphia 76ers, who selected him with the No. 1 overall pick in 2016. The former LSU Tigers star became a three-time NBA All-Star with the Sixers before his breakup with the team in 2022, when he was traded by Philly to the Brooklyn Nets.

He also later played for the Los Angeles Clippers. Simmons is still searching for the elite form he showed with the 76ers, and it remains to be seen whether he will find it with the Kings, who signed him to a 1-year, $3.5 million contract in the offseason.

The 30-year-old Simmons scored seven points on 2/4 shooting and added an assist in nine minutes of action in the Kings’ 111-106 preseason loss to the Warriors.

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Matthew Golden is quick to move on from a sideline incident caught on video during Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisc.

The former Texas Longhorns star wideout had just returned a punt when he bulldozed one of the Bears coaches on the sidelines. Meanwhile, Bears kicker Cairo Santos seemingly tried to trip Golden as the wide receiver was leaving the sidelines. 

Asked about the incident, Golden provided a simple response.

“It’s all good. I ain’t got nothing to say to him,” Golden said after the game, via Matt Schneidman of The Athletic.

Golden would rather revel in Green Bay crushing its bitter NFC North rivals Bears, 31-7.

The win must have tasted even sweeter for Green Bay not only because it came at the expense of Chicago, but also because it gave the Packers some semblance of revenge after getting eliminated by the Bears in the last playoffs.

Additionally, Golden posted a career-high 123 receiving yards on six catches and seven targets as he continues to come into his own in his second year in the NFL.

Golden and the Packers improve to 3-2 with that win, and will next take on the Dallas Cowboys in Week 6 at home.

Alex Ovechkin is not done scoring goals in the NHL. The Washington Capitals superstar forward added to his absurd career-goals tally on Sunday, lighting the lamp for the first time in the 2026-27 season against the Seattle Kraken at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C.

After Washington forced a turnover, Ovechkin found himself in the right place at the right time and sniped a goal in the first period for his 930th career NHL goal.

Ovechkin’s goal against the Kraken stands out among his previous goals because it was the first time he scored off assists from a pair of brothers, according to the NHL’s Communications Department.

Ilya and Aliaksei Protas each assisted on the goal, which also put the Capitals ahead 2-1.

The 41-year-old Ovechkin has already announced that the 2026-27 campaign will be his last in the league, making every goal the nine-time Maurice Richard Trophy winner scores the rest of the way even more special.

Unfortunately for the Capitals, Ovechkin’s goal against the Kraken was ultimately wasted in a 5-3 loss, as Seattle responded by scoring four unanswered goals.

Ovechkin and the Capitals will look to bounce back on Tuesday, when they play the reigning Stanley Cup champions Carolina Hurricanes at the Lenovo Center in Raleigh, N.C.

Tua Tagovailoa’s regular-season debut for the Atlanta Falcons ended in a disaster at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Ga.

After Falcons starting quarterback Michael Penix Jr. took a big hit and briefly left the game late in the fourth quarter, Tagovailoa was called on for one play. He threw a 14-yard pass to running back Bijan Robinson before returning to the bench as Penix returned to the game.

Penix, however, couldn’t play in overtime, forcing Atlanta to rely on Tagovailoa again under center. The former Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback had an opportunity to silence his critics by leading the Falcons on a game-winning drive after the Ravens struck first in overtime. 

Instead, he wasted the opportunity in catastrophic fashion, throwing a game-ending interception to Ravens defensive back Kyle Hamilton.

Depending on Penix’s injury status, the Falcons might have to give the ball to Tagovailoa again in Week 6 when they host the Chicago Bears. 

The Falcons went 0-2 in the first two weeks of the season with Penix on the shelf, starting Cooper Rush in both games. Rush is another option for Atlanta, but it’s clear the Falcons would rather have Penix with the ball than their other options.

Tua Tagovailoa replaced Penix in overtime. The Falcons backup ended up throwing the game-ending interception that sealed a 30-23 victory for the visitors. The disappointment was written on Penix’s face as he could only watch from the sidelines.

Penix spoke to a reporter after the game and assured Falcons fans that his injury is not one that will knock him out for the year. His 2025 season was cut short after he suffered a torn ACL in a Week 11 contest against the Carolina Panthers.

“I’m going to get some imaging to just make sure I’m all good,” Penix said. “But it’s nothing season-ending, so I’ll be good.”

Penix is set to undergo further imaging to determine the severity of his rib injury.

After taking the huge blow late, Penix returned to the field for Atlanta’s final play in regulation. He threw one incomplete pass before sitting out overtime with the pain becoming too unbearable.

Penix went 19/32 for 240 yards and a touchdown as the Falcons dropped to 2-3.

The Carolina Hurricanes’ social media manager had it out for Philadelphia sports teams on Sunday night.

The Hurricanes trounced the Philadelphia Flyers in a 4-1 beatdown at Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia, Pa. The loss dropped the Flyers’ record to 0-5-2 this season.

The Hurricanes added insult to injury after the game with a post making fun of Philadelphia’s futility across multiple sports in October.

It’s been a bleak month to be a Philly sports fan thus far.

The Hurricanes may have broken the Flyers after sweeping them out of the second round last season. The Flyers have yet to record a win since their series-clinching victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins in April.

The Phillies fell to the Atlanta Braves as road dogs in their Wild Card series, thus failing to bring any playoff baseball back to Philly. The Eagles lost both home games this month, succumbing to an embarrassing brain fart on Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Los Angeles Chargers looked poised to finally get their first win, leading 17-10 entering the fourth quarter of the Week 5 clash at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif. Instead, the Chargers embarrassed themselves in the final period.

The home team ended the game with a punt, a turnover on downs, an interception, and a fumble, losing 23-17 and falling to 0-5.

After the game, Harbaugh was asked what kind of message he’d give the team amid the winless start. The Chargers coach stumbled through a dispiriting answer.

“Uhh, I don’t know what that message is,” Harbaugh said, before trying to come up with something.

“It’s just in the… Players … fight their hearts out. Play, uhh, give it everything they have. That’s the only way; that’s the best way. Yeah, that’s … yeah.”

McBride’s Arizona Cardinals were staring down an insurmountable 45-14 lead with just over two minutes left at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Ariz. With nothing to lose, the Cardinals went for it on 4th-and-goal and gave their home fans something to cheer about.

Cardinals quarterback Jacoby Brissett lofted a pass to McBride that was heavily contested by Lions linebacker Jack Campbell. Despite Campbell being draped all over him, McBride somehow juggled the ball in the air and made the grab, somehow keeping his feet touching end zone grass as he fell out of bounds.

The Cardinals still lost 45-21, but it was by no fault of McBride. The All-Pro tight end led Arizona with 9 catches for 66 yards and a touchdown.

Sunday was an eventful day for Cardinals fans, who said goodbye to Marvin Harrison Jr. after the third-year wideout was traded for a surprising return package.

The Washington Commanders did not lose on Sunday, but it certainly felt like it after their baffling game management error in overtime.

The Commanders literally ran out of time during a 27-27 tie with the New York Giants at Northwest Stadium in Landover, Md. after the team seemingly forgot they were out of timeouts with the clock running down in overtime. With Washington firmly in field goal range, quarterback Jayden Daniels ran what appeared to be a designed quarterback run with 12 seconds left while deep in New York territory.

After Daniels was tackled in bounds, there was no urgency among the Commanders to get back to the line of scrimmage and spike the ball. By the time they realized what was going on, it was too late for them to get lined up in time, and the clock ran out on them.

The only remotely plausible explanation is that Daniels thought the Commanders had a timeout left. That is partly on Daniels, but pretty much everyone from the coaching staff on down has to take responsibility for that. Daniels needed to know the timeout situation, and if he was not aware of it, someone needed to tell him.

The final sequence was at least comparable to the disastrous series of events that got Chicago Bears coach Matt Eberflus fired two years ago. Quinn is highly unlikely to suffer the same fate here, but he and Daniels are going to have a lot of questions to answer about how this could have happened.

Marvin Harrison Jr. is officially on the move, and one aspect of the deal had NFL fans shocked.

The Arizona Cardinals are trading Harrison to the Houston Texans, according to multiple reports. The Texans are giving up a second- and sixth-round pick to bring Harrison in.

In light of Harrison’s underwhelming production at the NFL level, fans were stunned that the Cardinals were able to get a second-round pick for him. Even more remarkable is the fact that the Texans are 1-4, raising the possibility that it could be a pretty high second-round pick heading Arizona’s way.

The price the Texans paid certainly speaks to Harrison’s pedigree. The Cardinals picked him No. 4 overall in the 2024 NFL Draft, and he was widely regarded as one of the best players on the board that year. The production, however, has not matched the hype. Through two-plus seasons, he has tallied just 1,578 receiving yards, which works out to 47.8 yards per game. Those poor numbers cannot be solely blamed on quarterback play, as he has had some very bad drops.

The Texans are betting that reuniting Harrison with CJ Stroud, his college quarterback, will unlock his potential. If it does not happen, they could come to regret this deal quickly. A lot of fans certainly think they will.

Cam Ward had a rough day at the office on Sunday, no thanks to his offensive line.

The Tennessee Titans got embarrassed in Week 5 by the Houston Texans. They lost by a final score of 26-3 in front of their home crowd at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tenn.

One particularly embarrassing sequence in the second half summed up Tennessee’s struggles. The Titans quarterback Ward was dropping back to pass and got completely hung out to dry by Dan Moore Jr, one of his offensive linemen.

Video showed Moore aimlessly drifting off into the abyss after the snap and blocking absolutely nobody. That opened up a free lane for Texans cornerback Kamari Lassiter to charge at a vulnerable Ward. Here is the video.

Ward did manage to escape the pressure and get rid of the ball before anything bad happened. But Ward was still sacked four times on the afternoon and threw one interception against the Texans’ stellar defense.

With the blowout loss, the Titans fell to a miserable 0-5 on the year. While the former No. 1 overall pick Ward has made a lot of mistakes this year and has even been receiving threats over his poor performance, he is clearly not getting much help from his offensive line these days either.

Karl-Anthony Towns’ relationship with the New York Knicks continues to deterioriate.

The Knicks announced in a public statement earlier in the week that they are officially shutting down contract talks with their players until later on in the season. As a result, Towns is among multiple Knicks who will not be getting an extension before the start of the 2026-27 campaign.

Speaking with reporters on Sunday, Towns addressed the Knicks’ decision. He said that he was “very disappointed” with the team over what he indicated was a surprise development.

“It was news to me,” said Towns, per James L. Edwards III of The Athletic. “Very disappointed to say the least. Let’s state the obvious. It’s business, but there is business on the court for us to handle.”

The six-time All-Star Towns, 30, is looking for a new contract from the Knicks after helping lead them to the NBA championship in 2026. He is in the final guaranteed year of his contract this season at $57.1 million and also holds a $61 million player option for 2027-28.

In their attempt to avoid the second apron of the luxury tax, New York is not willing to give Towns a max extension. Instead, they want him to leave tens of millions of dollars on the table on a potential new contract.

Towns, though he has reportedly been frustrated with the Knicks for the last several months, has at least shown a willingness to negotiate with the team at a number less than his max. But now the Knicks are suddenly not looking to negotiate at all, which is a disappointing development for both Towns and his other extension-eligible teammates such as Josh Hart and Miles McBride.

Max Verstappen dominated all weekend in Singapore, taking pole in both races, and winning both the sprint race and grand prix. Sunday’s grand prix win makes it back-to-back P1 finishes for Verstappen. He also earned his first P1 finish in Singapore.

Finishing Behind Verstappen were Charles Leclerc and Kimi Antonelli, respectively.

Lewis Hamilton, who was unable to take advantage of a virtual safety car and pitted for fresh soft compound tires, ended up finishing sixth.

Though Verstappen won the race, his Red Bull teammate Isack Hadjar was plagued by mechanical issues all weekend. Hadjar was forced to start the race from the pit lane but was able to battle his way through the grid and finish tenth.

With several consecutive successful weekends for Verstappen, he has now eclipsed Leclerc for fourth place in the drivers’ standings. Additionally, Red Bull now only trails McLaren by nine points for P3 in the constructors’ standings.

Mercedes still is in command in the drivers’ and constructors’ championships, but thanks to Verstappen’s win, Red Bull is in striking distance of second.

Six races remain in the F1 season. Next up is United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas.

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn got into an animated argument with officials over what he saw as a pair of missed calls during Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns.

Glenn was furious that Browns pass rusher Jared Verse was not flagged for roughing the passer when Verse hit Geno Smith late and high during the first half of Sunday’s game at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. He was even more furious that the Browns were not called for interfering with a fair catch later on.

CBS cameras caught Glenn in discussion with Bill Vinovich and his crew, and the coach was about as animated as can be.

Based on the replay, Glenn seemingly had reason to be angry. That is particularly true of the roughing the passer non-call, as there have been plenty of other hits much less blatant than that one flagged this season.

Glenn has become one of the more interesting coaches to watch on the sidelines thanks to his memorable antics. Some people, however, are growing a bit frustrated with him as he carries a 4-17 overall record into Week 5.

Chicago Bears kicker Cairo Santos seemingly got away with a dirty move while facing the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.

Santos got into it with Packers wide receiver Matthew Golden on a punt return during the first half of Sunday’s game at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisc. Golden ran onto the Bears’ sideline after the return and ran over one of the team’s assistant coaches.

As Golden left the sideline, Santos appeared to stick a leg out to try and trip him.

Santos failed to trip Golden, but the Packers return man definitely noticed the move. Things did not escalate any further from there.

Tripping an opponent is generally considered a dirty move by most NFL players. In this instance, the Bears would presumably argue that Santos was just sticking up for one of the team’s coaches after what they would see as a needless collision on Golden’s part.

Santos wound up missing a 43-yard field goal attempt in the second half of the game, so the Packers got the last laugh in that sense, too.
