Former New England Patriots coach Jerod Mayo has a new job, and it has virtually nothing to do with football.

Mayo has resurfaced as a member of private equity firm Fifth Down Capital, per Chris Mason of MassLive. It is the first real public move Mayo has made since being fired by the Patriots in 2025.

Mayo’s profile on the firm’s website lists him as managing director, and makes mention of his playing and coaching career in the NFL. The website adds that he “has been an active investor and advisor to private companies for over a decade.”

Whatever his specific role, it is clear that Mayo is done with football, at least for the time being. Given his experience, it is certainly possible he could have landed a coaching role somewhere in the NFL, but there are no indications that he even pursued that path.

Mayo was the immediate successor to Bill Belichick in New England, and Robert Kraft had singled him out for that role years before he landed it. After a 4-13 season and rumors of a lax demeanor behind the scene, he was fired and replaced by Mike Vrabel, who immediately won the AFC title in his first season in charge.

The Chicago Bulls continue to be linked to some surprising head coach candidates.

The Bulls have had early conversations with BYU head coach Kevin Young about their vacancy, according to Jamal Collier of ESPN. Collier adds that the Bulls are “casting a wide net” in their search for a new coach to replace Billy Donovan.

Young is not really on anyone’s radar as an NBA head coach candidate, though he does have experience. Prior to joining BYU, he was an assistant for the Philadelphia 76ers and Phoenix Suns, including a stint as Phoenix’s associate head coach from 2021 to 2024. The 44-year-old is 49-22 in two seasons with the Cougars.

The Bulls are hunting for a new coach to replace Billy Donovan. They have definitely been linked to some unusual names, though the favorite might be a current NBA assistant.

Whoever lands the Chicago job will likely have some building to do. The franchise has not had a winning season since 2021-22, and has not won a playoff series since 2015. They finished 31-51 last season.

James Harden’s future is taking shape after a very mixed bag of a postseason.

The Cleveland Cavaliers star Harden is expected to opt out of his contract this offseason and to negotiate a longer contract with the team, Bobby Marks of ESPN reported this week. Marks notes that Harden’s new contract could be for two years and that an opt-out would allow the Cavaliers to potentially get under the second apron of the luxury tax, giving them more flexibility to build out the rest of their roster.

Harden, the former NBA MVP, made $39.4 million this season and holds a $42.3 million player option for next season. He will have until June 29 to make an official decision on that player option.

After being acquired in a February trade with the LA Clippers, Harden averaged 20.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 7.7 assists per game as a clear No. 2 option to Cavaliers star Donovan Mitchell. But Harden had a very inconsistent performance in the playoffs, even if Cleveland made it all the way to the Eastern Conference Finals.

Harden had postseason averages 19.2 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 5.5 assists per game on flat 41/30/83 shooting splits and also produced some major stinkers along the way, including with his miserable defense in Cleveland’s Game 1 ECF collapse to the New York Knicks. After the Knicks swept the Cavaliers in the series, Harden made things even worse with a horrific take in his postgame press conference.

Set to turn 37 in August, Harden has been playing out the last couple of years on 1+1 contracts. He might end up resetting and doing the same with the Cavaliers this summer, which could open up some possibilities for Cleveland to pull off a specific shocker.

Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green is not known for freely offering praise to his fellow NBA players, but he is making a surprising exception for Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

Green was critical of those who believe the Oklahoma City Thunder star’s success is down to his perceived flopping. The Warriors veteran found it bizarre that people would actually believe a player of Gilgeous-Alexander’s caliber could achieve what he has by foul-baiting.

“Shai, what I will say is, you’ve reached a new level of greatness, my man. You’ve reached a new level of greatness because you have sports media coming out and talking about what they don’t like about your greatness,” Green said. “That’s incredible. As if Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is running up and down the court with the whistle in his mouth calling a foul for himself.

“I’ve been baffled watching people talk about Shai Gilgeous-Alexander like he didn’t just win back-to-back MVPs in the NBA, which is the best basketball league in the world by a long shot. We’re really going to try to discredit him and act like it’s all because he flopped? Green is not the sort of player who dishes out praise freely. He’s usually the one clashing with opponents. Perhaps he sees a kindred spirit in SGA, who has been the increasing target of media criticism despite his unquestioned accomplishments.

Green is correct, though it does not necessarily invalidate the criticism toward SGA. He may be elite in a lot of ways, but his style just is not always entertaining. To some, it feels like a cheap way to succeed, but if it were easy, he would not excel at it the way he does.

Gilgeous-Alexander has made it clear he does not care much about what people say about his alleged flopping. Still, he might appreciate the show of support from an unexpected source.

The Chicago White Sox will be a lot less fun over the next several weeks.

Chicago manager Will Venable said to reporters on Saturday that breakout rookie slugger Munetaka Murakami has suffered a grade 2 hamstring strain. Murakami is now expected to miss 4-to-6 weeks of action as a result.

The 26-year-old Murakami was injured during Friday’s win over the Detroit Tigers at Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago, Ill. While legging out an infield single, Murakami came up hobbled and grabbed his right hamstring area.

The lefty-hitting Murakami, a former hitting Triple Crown winner in his native Japan, had been off to a magical start to his first season in Major League Baseball. Through 57 games, Murakami had produced 20 home runs (an AL high), 43 RBIs, and 40 runs scored (also an AL high) while quickly becoming one of the most exciting shows in the big leagues with some of his absurd feats.

Meanwhile, the White Sox, who have not had a winning season since 2021, have posted a very respectable 30-27 record up to this point of the 2026 campaign. But now they will have to survive until likely at least July without their hard-hitting infield phenom Murakami.

Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford offered up his reaction to his team’s decision to use its first-round draft pick on what they hope will be his eventual replacement.

Stafford did not want to go into details about how he felt about the Rams’ decision to use the No. 13 pick on Ty Simpson, but he did say he understood it. He also appreciated that coach Sean McVay gave him a heads-up and offered a private explanation for the decision.

“I’m not going to get into what our conversation was I appreciate him talking with me about those things. We have constant dialogue and a great relationship, so I appreciate that,” Stafford said of McVay, via Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk. “I understand where the team’s coming from. Listen, I’m not 25 years old and I get that. We’re doing everything we can to be as good a football team as we can for now, for the future, for all of it.”

Stafford added that he is helping Simpson as much as he is helping the rest of the team, and has tried to answer Simpson’s questions “as honestly and as thoroughly as I possibly can.”

If Stafford is unhappy with the team’s decision to pick Simpson, he is not signifying it publicly. It sounds like Stafford and his family have been cordial behind the scenes as well.

It was McVay who seemed crankier about picking Simpson than Stafford has at any point. That will probably suit the Rams just fine if it means there is not any real unhappiness behind the scenes about what they have chosen to do.

Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell is clearly not a huge fan of offseason OTAs.

Campbell was asked on Friday if any Lions players had stood out during the offseason workouts, which take place without pads. The coach said plenty of players had done well, but it was hard to draw any serious assessments from what he compared to a “pajama party.”

“There’s been a lot of guys who have done well for two days in pajamas,” Campbell said. “There’s some that are learning through it. But I’m done with the hype of the pajama party in May. It’s about the mental, it’s about the movement skills, all that other stuff doesn’t matter. We’ll find out in training camp who’s who.”

You would not expect anything else from Campbell. This is, after all, someone who has totally shrugged off the tush push while other teams complain about it.

Ultimately, Campbell is right that no big decisions are likely to be made off the back of OTAs. Training camp is a few months away, and that is when the position battles will really kick into gear. Campbell sounds like he is expecting a lot of them, and he clearly likes that, too.

Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders is making a staggering amount of money from NFLPA endorsement agreements.

Sanders earned $17.7 million in group licensing income last season, according to Daniel Kaplan of Front Office Sports. That money is associated with things like jersey sales, trading cards, and other collectibles.

Kaplan notes that this figure does not even include Sanders’ separate endorsement deals. Add those figures in and the Browns quarterback is likely pulling in over $20 million solely from off-field income. Considering he makes just over $1 million annually through his actual contract, that is a remarkable total.

Sanders, of course, entered the league to much hype last season, in part because of his status as Deion Sanders’ son. He made the Pro Bowl as a rookie even though he threw for seven touchdowns and 10 interceptions, and may not even start for the Browns this season despite his visibility and the clear fan interest in him.

Former New York Mets manager Bobby Valentine, 76, revived one of the most memorable moments from his tenure with the team on Friday night.

During “Bobby Valentine Disguise Night” at Citi Field, Valentine donned his signature sunglasses and fake mustache to throw out the ceremonial first pitch ahead of the Mets’ matchup against the Miami Marlins.

The event celebrated Valentine’s infamous 1999 incident, when he was ejected during a game against the Toronto Blue Jays but returned to the dugout in disguise using eye black for a mustache. The Mets won that 14-inning contest, cementing the story in franchise lore.

Valentine is set to be inducted into the Mets Hall of Fame on Saturday.

Fans received disguise kits, creating a sea of mustached supporters, while even Mr. Met joined the fun.

New York Knicks center Mitchell Robinson has undergone surgery on his broken right pinkie finger and intends to play in Game 1 of the NBA Finals while wearing a protective brace, reports ESPN.

Knicks coach Mike Brown informed reporters on Friday that Robinson had the procedure, though the exact timing of the injury remains unclear. Brown stated the center was not injured during Game 4 of the Eastern Conference finals or in practice.

However, video from Monday’s game showed Robinson grabbing at his right hand after coming down from a rebound attempt, but he continued playing limited minutes as the Knicks swept the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The Philadelphia 76ers have hired Cleveland Cavaliers general manager Mike Gansey as their new president of basketball operations, finalizing a multiyear agreement, his agent confirmed to ESPN Friday.

Gansey, 43, has spent more than a decade with the Cavaliers organization since joining in 2011-12. He previously served as general manager of the team’s G League affiliate, earning NBA D-League Executive of the Year honors in 2016-17, before rising to the NBA GM role in 2021.

Under his contributions, Cleveland built a competitive roster that reached the Eastern Conference finals this season before being swept by the New York Knicks.

Court documents filed in Lubbock, Texas, have shed light on the scale of Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby’s gambling issues.

The filings reveal that Sorsby placed at least 40 bets involving Indiana football while serving as the Hoosiers’ quarterback, reports Mark Schlabach and David Purdum of ESPN.

According to the documents, Sorsby wagered approximately $90,000 over four years using accounts registered in his own name as well as in the names of family members and friends. He transferred at least $60,000 to two friends to cover bets placed on his behalf, apparently to obscure his direct involvement.

While at Indiana from 2022 to 2023, he acknowledged making at least 2,900 bets exceeding $30,000 in total, including the 40 wagers on his own team that totaled around $850.

Sorsby, who has been diagnosed with a gambling and anxiety disorder, continued betting after transferring to Cincinnati and later Texas Tech, utilizing friends’ accounts for additional wagers on other sports.

He completed a 35-day rehabilitation program but faces ongoing NCAA eligibility challenges. His attorneys argue the addiction should be treated as a mitigating mental health condition.

New York Giants backup quarterback Jameis Winston stepped forward as a voice of hard-earned wisdom, offering perspective on the political friction between teammates Jaxson Dart and Abdul Carter that has captured national interest.

One MLB pitcher’s stretching session will take him out of commission until the second half of the season.

Marlins starter Eury Perez was placed on the 15-day injured list on Friday after leaving his start early against the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday. Perez appeared to injure himself while getting low to the ground during a stretch in between innings.

Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reported on Friday that Perez suffered an right gracilis strain while stretching. The thigh injury will now keep Perez sidelined for the next eight weeks, De Nicola added.

The righty Perez, 23, had been off to a mediocre start to the 2026 season, going 3-6 with a 4.60 ERA and 1.26 WHIP through 12 starts (albeit with an impressive 72 strikeouts as well). This is Perez’s 3rd MLB season after he also missed the entire 2024 campaign due to an even worse injury.

With eight weeks on the shelf, Perez will be out of commission until at least late July. That is even worse injury luck than that of the baseball player who got hurt during a run-in with a bat dog this week.

Tristan Thompson has taken his final bow in the NBA.

The former Cleveland Cavaliers big man Thompson revealed this week that he is officially retired from the NBA. Thompson was appearing on the podcast of his ex-girlfriend Khloe Kardashian and confirmed his retirement as a player.

“Honestly, it’s been great,” said Thompson of his retirement, per E! Online. “I always tell people it feels like I’m a rookie again.”

“You have to figure out how you’re going to pivot,” Thompson continued. “The toughest thing for anyone, but for athletes, is figuring out what’s next. For athletes, the easiest transition is going into sports broadcasting because it’s a way that you can still stay part of the game and just talk about what you love.”

Thompson, 35, was the No. 4 overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft and played 13 total seasons in the league. He spent the vast majority of his career on the Cavaliers and started on their championship team in 2016.

Best known as a robust rebounder and interior presence despite being just 6-foot-9, Thompson averaged 8.3 points and 7.8 rebounds per game for his career. Thompson also played for the Boston Celtics, Sacramento Kings, Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Lakers, and Indiana Pacers but returned for a second stint in Cleveland from 2023-25 as a seldom-used veteran.

A native of Canada, Thompson went unsigned during the 2025-26 NBA season. He also made headlines in recent years for his on-again, off-again relationship with Kardashian as well as for a 25-game suspension for violating the NBA’s anti-drug policy. Now Thompson is formally calling it a wrap on his days a player.

The Oklahoma City Thunder will be down a star for Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals.

2025 All-Star Jalen Williams was reportedly ruled out for the do-or-die clash at Paycom Center in Oklahoma City, Okla. ESPN’s Shams Charania broke the news a full 24 hours before Saturday’s tipoff, which suggests Williams is nowhere close to being in game shape for the contest.

Williams has been dealing with a hamstring injury that has limited him throughout the playoffs. The Santa Clara alum missed six of OKC’s eight games during the first two rounds, but was deemed healthy enough to play in Games 1 and 2 against the Spurs. Williams tweaked his hamstring in Game 2 and ended up missing Games 3 to 5.

While Williams was able to get back on the court for Game 6, he was clearly still hobbled by the injury. He scored only one point and was a team-worst -18 in the 118-91 Thunder defeat. The Spurs also repeatedly targeted Williams and put him in actions on defense — and would have likely done the same in Game 7 had Williams given it another go.

The Thunder have had a lot of success this season, even without Williams in the lineup. Oklahoma City went 39-10 in the regular season and 8-1 in the postseason with Williams in street clothes. But a lot of that success coincided with the emergence of second-year guard Ajay Mitchell, who will also miss Game 7 due to a right calf injury.

Without Williams and Mitchell in Game 7, the Thunder may need another big-time performance from midseason acquisition Jared McCain.

Abdul Carter has addressed the Jaxson Dart-shaped elephant in the room.

The New York Giants linebacker spoke to reporters on Friday after publicly calling out Dart for introducing President Donald Trump at a rally last week. Carter’s social media post blew up, and so did speculation about his supposedly crumbling relationship with Dart.

Carter claimed that despite his objections to affiliating with Trump in any capacity, there is no such rift between him and the Giants’ starting quarterback.

“So first off, I want to say that some things are bigger than football, and this is one of those things,” Carter said, via Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio. “Jaxson is one of our leaders. He’s the face of our franchise. He not only represents himself in what he does but he represents all of us. And that goes for anybody who wears a Giants uniform.

“But if he chooses to align himself with a man like President Trump, it’s my responsibility based on what I believe and what I stand on to not only show my teammates that I’m against that but to show the world.

“And that doesn’t mean that we have to spread hate. It doesn’t mean that me and Jaxson hate each other or we have beef. I sit next to Jaxson every day. Every team meeting we’re close, we talk, you know, we just — as long as we make sure we got the same goal as a team and our goals align, which they do, I feel like that’s all that matters. So, I just want to move past this, and, yeah, that’s it.”

When asked whether he wanted Dart to apologize, Carter said he’d prefer his teammate to “stand on what you believe in,” and Carter will do the same.

Carter previously tried to downplay any drama between him and Dart with a follow-up post on social media. But it did little to quiet the whispers, leading him to address the issue head-on.

Dart also spoke to the media on Friday and assured Giants fans that he still considers Carter and every one of his teammates as his brothers, regardless of any off-field affiliations.

One Eastern Conference team’s recent coaching shakeup may have made it a more interesting Giannis Antetokounmpo trade destination.

The Orlando Magic on Friday hired longtime assistant coach Sean Sweeney to be the team’s next head coach. Sweeney replaced Jamahl Mosley, whom the Magic fired after the team blew a 3-1 lead in its first-round series against the Detroit Pistons.

Sweeney has been a visible fixture on NBA fans’ TV screens of late for his work with Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs. He’s currently in his first year as the associate head coach of the Western Conference finalist under Mitch Johnson.

A decade before moving to San Antonio, Sweeney was an assistant on the Milwaukee Bucks from 2014 to 2018. There, he developed a close, personal relationship with Antetokounmpo. Giannis even credited Sweeney for helping him build his “killer mentality” and turning him into a better person on and off the court.

The Magic had already been linked to Antetokounmpo before the Sweeney hiring. The move has only fanned the flames of Magic fans hoping their team could spark trade talks for the two-time MVP.

Sweeney isn’t the only Magic official with ties to Antetokounmpo. General manager John Hammond drafted Giannis back in 2013, while team president Jeff Weltman personally scouted the All-Star when he was still a teenager in Greece.

While it’s all just speculation at this point, it’s possible the Greek Freak could soon become the latest attraction in Orlando.

Asked after the match if he felt he had just played his last match at Roland Garros, Djokovic simply said he did not know. He gave the same answer when asked if he felt that he would be going out after a worthy performance.

Djokovic has fought through some injuries in the last few years that have impacted his performance and raised questions about his longevity. He seems content to keep playing as long as he is physically able. It just isn’t clear how much longer that will last for him.

Milwaukee Brewers relief pitcher Abner Uribe has been disciplined by MLB for his actions during Tuesday’s 6-0 win over the St. Louis Cardinals at American Family Field in Milwaukee, Wisc.

Uribe was suspended one game by MLB, though he is appealing. His suspension stems from his celebratory actions after he pitched his way out of a jam in the 8th inning. Uribe directed a crotch chop towards the Cardinals’ dugout after getting a strikeout.

Uribe explained after the game that he did the motion in response to a conflict with the Cardinals. The relief pitcher thought Cardinals manager Oli Marmol was threatening to hit Brewers batters, and that’s why he was heated.

Uribe, 25, is 2-2 with a 4.19 ERA and has five saves on the season. He is in his fourth MLB season, all spent with Milwaukee.

The San Francisco Giants’ poor start to the 2026 season is beginning to come with some consequences.

The Giants announced Friday that third base coach Hector Borg has been removed from his duties as third base coach and will be reassigned to a new role in the organization. Ron Wotus, a member of the Giants’ coaching staff from 1998 to 2021, will return to coach third base on an interim basis.

The decision to reassign Borg was not a coincidence. He has been roundly criticized this season for his poor decisions as third base coach, including some needlessly aggressive sends that got runners thrown out at the plate. The final straw appears to have come Wednesday, when he tried to wave Willy Adames home from second with one out despite the fact that the Arizona Diamondbacks were relaying the ball back to the infield before Adames even made it to third.

Inexperienced coaching does seem to have been an issue for the Giants this season. They made the bold decision to hire former Tennessee Volunteers head coach Joe Vitello as their manager, and it simply has not gone well. They enter play Friday with a record of 22-34, second-worst in the National League.

The most interesting thing about the Giants so far this season is arguably their victory celebrations. They have not even been able to break them out frequently.

The Cleveland Browns may be ready to go back to the well one more time with regard to Deshaun Watson.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler suggested Friday that Watson appears to be the early leader in the Browns’ quarterback competition against Shedeur Sanders. Fowler noted, however, that the decision is far from final.

“Deshaun Watson, my sense, is he has the leg up on that quarterback competition right now, but the Browns have not made any sort of firm determination yet,” Fowler said on ESPN’s “NFL Live” Friday. “They like Watson’s experience. Watson believes that Todd Monken’s offense, which has some concepts of like the air raid out of college which he’s run in the past, maybe some room to freelance a little bit out of the pocket — he likes that. He feels like it’s a fit. But he’s got to go win the job. He hasn’t done that yet. Shedeur Sanders has had his moments this spring.”

There have been some hints this offseason that the Browns are actually leaning toward giving the job to Watson. The 30-year-old has offered little in the past when starting for Cleveland and is coming off two Achilles tears. On the other hand, he is the only quarterback on Cleveland’s roster with a history of performing at a Pro Bowl level, even if that has not been the case since 2020.

Watson himself firmly believes he can recapture that form and just needs the chance to show it. He might just get that chance.

Watson last played in 2024. In seven games that season, he threw for just 1,148 yards and five touchdowns to go along with three interceptions.

The Orlando Magic have made a decision on their new head coach.

The Magic are hiring San Antonio Spurs associate coach Sean Sweeney as their new coach, according to Shams Charania of ESPN. Sweeney will replace Jamahl Mosley, who was fired after the team’s first-round playoff exit.

Sweeney, 41, has been part of a number of successful teams in recent years. This was his first season with the Spurs, having served as an assistant for the Dallas Mavericks before that. He was part of the coaching staff that helped guide Dallas to the NBA Finals in 2024.

Sweeney has also been an assistant for the Brooklyn Nets, Milwaukee Bucks, and Detroit Pistons. He worked under Jason Kidd at those first two stops, as well as during his time in Dallas.

While the Magic considered some big names for their job opening, they ultimately went with a younger, fresher face. That is a bit of a surprise, since Orlando still has a fairly young team with three consecutive playoff appearances to their name.

San Francisco 49ers pass rusher Nick Bosa offered something of an update on whether brother Joey is close to finding a team for 2026.

Joey Bosa turns 31 in July, so he theoretically has plenty left in the tank. He collected five sacks for the Buffalo Bills last season while playing 15 games.

New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart publicly addressed the controversy that stemmed from him introducing President Donald Trump at a rally last week.

Dart said he had had private conversations with teammates about the matter, and that those would remain private. He said his decision to accept the opportunity was born from a respect for the presidency, regardless of partisan affiliation.

“This was a unique opportunity, being asked and given the opportunity to introduce the President of the United States,” Dart told reporters. “My thinking is pretty simple: I’ve always loved this country. I have extended family members who have fought in wars. The president position has always been a position that I’ve long respected regardless of political affiliation and political party. My intentions were just that. I also understand that I am the quarterback of the New York Giants, and that involves a lot of responsibility. It’s under a microscope and there’s a lot that comes with that, and it’s something I’ve embraced.

“I can honestly say that I love every single one of my brothers, my teammates on this team, regardless of politics, regardless of religious beliefs, regardless of anything that may be different between us. Michael Irvin is not happy that the Dallas Cowboys failed to take advantage of what he sees as a major opportunity.

Irvin was critical of the Cowboys for not tapping into the knowledge that former quarterback Troy Aikman could have offered. Aikman is now advising the Miami Dolphins, which Irvin says “pains him.”

“It does pain me to see that,” Irvin said. “I mean, I think it’s criminal for any club not to try to just glean as much as you can from a guy like Troy Aikman, whose job is to go and talk to teams, talk to coaches, and bring an understanding of what’s going on behind the scenes to the world.”

The Dolphins brought Aikman in as a consultant during their coaching search and kept him around as an advisor after that. As Irvin indicated, he has somewhat leveraged his relationships around the NFL to give the franchise some information to act on.

It does feel like a missed opportunity for the Cowboys not to take advantage of Aikman’s ties to the organization, as well as his connections around the league. One reason they never asked might be because he has been publicly critical of Jerry Jones in recent years, even if that criticism certainly appears warranted in most cases.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have fired an assistant coach just three months after initially hiring him.

The Steelers parted ways with assistant special teams coach Derius Swinton on Friday. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the move was due to an unspecified violation of club policy.

Obviously, it is highly unusual for a team to let go of a coaching hire after three months without the coach ever getting the chance to work a single game with the team. Whatever rules violation the Steelers allege happened must have been a serious one.

The Steelers should not be thrown off too much by the abrupt firing. They still have special teams coach Danny Crossman in place, though they will presumably seek to hire a new assistant.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul took a “gotcha” shot at President Donald Trump’s self-proclaimed lifelong Knicks fandom this week, but her crossover attempt clanged off the rim.

When asked about Trump’s plans to attend NBA Finals games at Madison Square Garden, Hochul suggested testing his bona fides by asking him to name the starting lineup of the “1993 championship team.”

The Texas Tech Red Raiders might not see star quarterback Brendan Sorsby take a single snap in Lobbock this season.

Sorsby entered rehab due to a gambling addiction, and after completing his 35-day rehab, the NCAA announced that the quarterback is ineligible to play in 2026 after reports stated that he placed bets on his own team during his time at Indiana.

Sorsby and Texas Tech have decided to appeal, and the Red Raiders QB has a court date on June 1 that should decide what the future holds.

On Thursday, Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire spoke about the situation with Sorsby.

“I do believe that he made a mistake, I do believe there should be consequences, but it’s my opinion that he shouldn’t be penalized for the rest of this year or his career,” McGuire said, via Chris Vannini of The Athletic.

McGuire also said that Sorsby has not been on campus since finishing his rehab, but rather is with his family.

After Sorsby finished his rehab, he posted a lengthy statement on social media, saying that he is “deeply sorry” and is “committed to the hard and necessary work ahead.”

Sorsby began his college career at Indiana and then spent the past two seasons at Cincinnati before transferring to Texas Tech this offseason.

Right now, the future is up in the air for Sorsby. If the court hearing doesn’t go his way, the only option is for him to head for the NFL Supplemental Draft in July, and he would more than likely be the first player selected in that event since 2019.

On Thursday, the NBA Board of Governors passed new anti-tanking rules and draft lottery changes that will go into effect beginning in 2027.

The changes included flattened odds, a relegation zone including penalties for the top-three teams, and the lottery moving to 16 teams.

As it turns out, the Memphis Grizzlies were the only team to vote against the proposed changes, and ESPN’s Shams Charania revealed why they did so.

The changes prevent teams from having three consecutive top-five picks, but the Grizzlies have stockpiled draft picks over the past few seasons by making several trades.

One of those first-round picks was for the 2027 NBA Draft as part of the deal that sent Jaren Jackson Jr. to the Utah Jazz at this year’s deadline.

The Grizzlies also acquired several first-round picks in the trade that sent Desmond Bane to the Orlando Magic, so the new rule hurts Memphis going forward.

Jannik Sinner lost to Juan Manuel Cerundolo in a surprising upset during their second-round match at the French Open in Paris, France, on Thursday. Sinner began the match winning the first two sets, and he led 5-1 in the third set before he fell apart and lost 3-6, 2-6, 7-5, 6-1, 6-1.

Amid hot conditions — it was 90 degrees Fahrenheit during the match — Sinner felt weak physically. He described himself after the match as having low energy and feeling dizzy.

“I didn’t feel very well on court, but can happen. Starting to feel very dizzy. Very low of energy. Tried to serve it out, but didn’t have a lot of energy,” Sinner said.

After leading 5-1 in the third set, Sinner lost 18 points in a row to allow Cerundolo to make it a closer match. Sinner then received some medical attention before the match resumed, at which point he lost the next three games to drop the third set.

Sinner, who entered the match on a 30-match winning streak, said he tried to conserve some energy in the fourth set. The strategy wasn’t enough, as he also lost the fifth set.

Sinner’s defeat, coupled with Carlos Alcaraz missing the tournament due to a wrist injury, means that men’s tennis will see a new major winner for the first time since late 2023. Novak Djokovic won the US Open in 2023. After that, every major was won by either Sinner or Alcaraz.

In 2025, the NCAA decided to eliminate the spring transfer portal window in college football. That means players could only enter the portal from January 2 to January 16 this year.

However, on Thursday, UCLA quarterback-turned-wide receiver Karson Gordon entered the portal as he used a rare loophole.

According to Pete Nakos and Alex Byington of On3, Gordon is entering the portal as a track athlete, with Thursday being the day the track and field portal officially opened.

“Despite entering the portal as a track and field athlete, Gordon can sign with any program as a two-sport athlete, meaning he can join any interested football program ahead of the upcoming Fall semester,” Byington wrote.

It’s quite the loophole for Gordon to use, but for him, it comes at a good time. UCLA has former Tennessee QB Nico Iamaleava back for another year, and Nico’s younger brother, Madden, is expected to be the QB1 once Nico finishes his college career.

Gordon committed to UCLA in 2023, picking the Bruins over programs such as Tulane and Boston College, although Gordon didn’t see any playing time in the first two seasons.

UCLA has listed Gordon as a WR on the roster currently, but this should be an interesting player to watch, especially this late into the college football offseason.

Gordon played high school football at Missouri City, Texas, and was a three-star recruit.

On May 21, NASCAR star Kyle Busch tragically died at the age of 41.

Busch was set to race at the Coca-Cola 600 in Charlotte, N.C., on May 24, so his death was shocking to many.

Busch’s family revealed that “severe pneumonia progressed into sepsis,” which led to complications and Busch’s death.

The death certificate, which was first obtained by US Weekly on Wednesday, also stated that Busch died from pneumonia. The certificate also said that Busch had been dealing with pneumonia for “days to weeks” before his death, turning into sepsis, which “triggered disseminated intravascular coagulation.”

Reports previously stated that 911 calls said Busch was “coughing up blood” before the ambulance arrived. Busch was also found unresponsive a day before his death while using a racing simulator.

It’s been a tough time for the Busch family and NASCAR fans, and the Charlotte Motor Speedway even had a touching tribute during the eighth lap of the Coca-Cola 600.

NHL veteran Claude Lemieux was found dead on Thursday at the age of 60, and new information says he died by suicide.

Lemieux, who played 21 seasons in the NHL, did not return home on Wednesday night. His son went to the family’s business — a furniture store in Lake Park, Fla., and found his dad in a rear warehouse around 3:00 a.m., according to TMZ Sports. The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office confirmed they responded to a suicide attempt. The county’s medical office declined to release any records related to the death, citing privacy rules surrounding suicide cases.

Lemieux, who was known for being a tough guy on the ice, had just served as the torch carrier prior to Game 3 of the Eastern Conference finals between the Montreal Canadiens and Carolina Hurricanes.

Lemieux played for Montreal from 1983-1990. He then spent six seasons with the New Jersey Devils, five with the Colorado Avalanche, and he also spent time with Phoenix, Dallas and San Jose.

Lemieux won four Stanley Cups during his career. Lemieux won two titles with the Devils, and another with the Avalanche and Canadiens. He also won the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP in 1995.

The last few seasons in the NBA have brought the tanking discussion into focus. The 2025-26 NBA season was no exception, with multiple teams trying to increase their odds in the lottery, and fines were even handed down to the Utah Jazz and Indiana Pacers.

Now, the NBA and Commissioner Adam Silver are trying to eliminate such tanking actions. The NBA Board of Governors on Thursday passed new anti-tanking rules, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.

Some of the changes that will take effect include the lottery going from 14 to 16 teams, a relegation zone including penalties for the top-three teams, and flattened odds, among others.

The league’s anti-tanking measures are something that has picked up a lot of steam lately, and the new changes will begin in the 2027 NBA Draft and last through 2029, for now.

Here’s an interesting tidbit from Charania: “No one will be able to win the No. 1 in consecutive years or be able to win three consecutive top-five picks.”

This year, the Washington Wizards landed the top pick, and they were one of three teams with 14% odds, which was the highest.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is working hard to be ready for Week 1 of the 2026 season after suffering a torn ACL.

Mahomes missed the end of the 2025 season, but so far, he figures to be on track. Mahomes even participated in OTAs, a good sign for him being ready for Week 1.

On Thursday, Mahomes addressed the media and admitted he feels good as he works his way back to full strength.

The Chiefs begin the season at home against the reigning AFC West champions, the Denver Broncos, on Monday Night Football on September 14.

If Patrick Mahomes isn’t ready, it figures to be Justin Fields, whom the Chiefs acquired in a trade with the New York Jets this offseason.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Emeka Egbuka had 63 receptions for 938 yards with six touchdowns in his rookie season in the NFL.

With Mike Evans signing with the San Francisco 49ers, Egbuka’s numbers should go up in his second season. On Thursday, a video surfaced of Egbuka making a must-see one-handed grab that channels that of the Odell Beckham Jr. highlight-reel catch.

This play was from Tuesday, which was the first day of OTAs for the Buccaneers, so Egbuka wasted no time making his presence known for his second season in the league. Several reporters mentioned that Egbuka made a great catch, but the video didn’t surface until the Buccaneers released it on Thursday.

Egbuka, who was selected at 19 overall in the 2025 NFL Draft after a standout career at Ohio State, led the team in receiving in his rookie season with a team-high in receptions, targets and yards as Evans and Chris Godwin dealt with injuries.

Carolina Panthers WR Tetairoa McMillan won the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award, but Egbuka finished fifth in the voting with 66 points.

Now, Evans is with the 49ers, and while Godwin is back, Egbuka should be able to get past the 1,000-yard mark if he can stay healthy in 2026.

The NHL world lost a legend as four-time Stanley Cup champion Claude Lemieux died at the age of 60.

The NHL Alumni Association announced the news of Lemieux’s death via a social media post.

The news comes just days after Lemieux carried out the torch at the Bell Centre in Montreal prior to Game 3 of the series between the Montreal Canadiens and Carolina Hurricanes.

Lemieux was selected at No. 26 overall by the Canadiens in the 1983 NHL Draft, and he played with the franchise until 1990, including being part of the Stanley Cup-winning team in 1986.

Lemieux then spent five seasons with the New Jersey Devils before being traded to the Colorado Avalanche right before the 1995-96 NHL season. Lemieux also spent time with the Phoenix Coyotes, Dallas Stars and San Jose Sharks, with the Sharks being the final team he played for before retiring in 2009.

The Sharks also posted a message on social media after Lemieux passed away.

“The entire Sharks organization is saddened to learn of the passing of Sharks alum and NHL legend Claude Lemieux. Our thoughts are with the Lemieux family,” the Sharks wrote.

Lemieux won two titles with the Devils and another with the Avalanche, and he won the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP in 1995.

Following his retirement, Lemieux became a certified NHL agent, and he represented players such as Red Wings defenseman Moritz Seider and Hurricanes goaltender Frederik Andersen.

Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is a back-to-back NBA MVP winner and is one game away from his second straight NBA Finals appearance.

Gilgeous-Alexander has been a superstar since coming to OKC, but he has drawn a lot of criticism lately due to flopping.

On Thursday, NBA analyst Mike Greenberg said that watching Gilgeous-Alexander play is “agonizing” and “not fun” during an episode of “Get Up!”

Phoenix Suns forward Dillon Brooks called Gilgeous-Alexander a “little frail” and questioned his free-throw trips after the Suns were swept by the Thunder in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs.

Last postseason, fans chanted “Free Throw Merchant” at Gilgeous-Alexander during the Western Conference Finals, although the Thunder star said it was a “compliment.”

Gilgeous-Alexander was second in the NBA in free-throw attempts in the regular season, only behind Luka Doncic, although Gilgeous-Alexander played four more games than the Los Angeles Lakers star.

In the Thunder’s Game 5 win over the San Antonio Spurs, Gilgeous-Alexander had 17 free-throw attempts, and he also had 17 attempts in the Game 1 win over the Suns.

The Thunder will try to finish the Western Conference Finals on Thursday with Game 6 against the Spurs at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas.

Los Angeles Lakers star guard Austin Reaves is set to hit free agency, and he could command a massive deal this summer.

While Reaves could return to the Lakers, there have been reports of teams making near-max offers to the former undrafted star. One “potential bidder” has emerged, which is the Brooklyn Nets, according to Tim Bontemps of ESPN.

“One potential bidder to watch this summer, sources said, is the Brooklyn Nets, who will enter the offseason with more than enough salary cap space to accommodate a max-type player,” Bontemps wrote.

The max value projects at five years and $239 million, but Bontemps reported that several scouts and executives think Reaves’ deal will be around five years and $200 million.

The Utah Jazz and Atlanta Hawks were also previously linked to Reaves, but the Lakers star admitted he wanted to “run it back” with LA.

Reaves was undrafted after playing college basketball at Oklahoma, but he has become a key piece of the Lakers’ rotation. This season, he averaged 23.3 points with 5.5 assists and 4.7 rebounds in the regular season, although he played a career-low 51 games due to injuries.

Right now, the expectation by many is that Reaves will return to LA, and it remains to be seen if LeBron James will wear the purple and gold again or play elsewhere if he decides to add another year to his legendary NBA career.

Thomas finished his freshman season and averaged 15.6 points per game with 3.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists. Thomas started 21 games for Arkansas and averaged just over 30 minutes, so he was a key piece for the Razorbacks on their way to a Sweet 16 appearance.

Thomas’ best outing came against Missouri when he scored a season-high 30 points with seven rebounds.

Thomas was a five-star recruit who played at Overtime Elite, and he chose Arkansas over UConn and Pittsburgh, his hometown team.

ESPN’s Jeremy Woo had Thomas ranked at No. 26 in his top 100 prospects list, so it looks like Thomas should be a first-round choice. Woo has Thomas projected to go to the Minnesota Timberwolves at No. 28 in his latest mock draft.

The 2026 NBA Draft begins on Tuesday, June 23, at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Victor Wembanyama’s pockets are safe from an unexpected expense amid the NBA Playoffs.

Wembanyama avoided getting slapped with a fine by the Association over his actions following the San Antonio Spurs’ 127-114 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 5 of the 2026 Western Conference Finals at Paycom Center in Oklahoma City, Okla., on Tuesday.

The former top pick in the 2023 NBA Draft only received a warning from the league for “violating media access rule,” according to Shams Charania of ESPN.

Meanwhile, NBA insider Chris Haynes believes Wembanyama’s outstanding behavior in the past helped the French star avoid a much more serious punishment than a slap on the wrist

“He was voted by the [Professional] Basketball Writers Association for being one of the most accommodating players to media. They let him off the hook this time,” Haynes said during an appearance on NBA TV.

Back in April, Wembanyama was awarded the 2025-26 Magic Johnson Award from the Professional Basketball Writers Association.

At that time, PBWA president Howard Beck said that Wembanyama personifies the kind of “superstar who is just as thoughtful and engaging off the court as he is dominant on the court.”

Wembanyama was seemingly neither dominant on the court nor engaging with reporters on Tuesday, as he shot 4-for-15 for 20 points in Game 5 before blowing past the media.

Stanley Johnson did not pan out as an NBA star, but he found success overseas.  

The former Arizona Wildcats star, who was a first-round pick by the Detroit Pistons in 2015 and had a stop with the Los Angeles Lakers, reached the top of Japan’s B.League this week, as he helped the Nagasaki Velca win the championship.

The B.LEAGUE shared a clip showing an emotional Johnson in tears after Nagasaki defeated the Ryukyu Golden Kings in the best-of-three championship series.

Johnson and the Velcas stumbled right out of the gate of the B.League Finals, as they lost Game 1, 71-69. But Nagasaki responded by winning the next two games to claim the title. In Game 3, Johnson came off the bench and scored 9 points on 3/11 shooting with 4 rebounds, 3 blocks and 2 assists in 32 minutes of Nagasaki’s 72-64 win. 

Just based on his reaction, the championship Johnson won with Nagasaki will stick with him for a long time. His basketball journey in Japan appears to have a profound effect on him, and it’s something he can definitely be proud of.

It will be interesting to see whether Johnson’s success in Japan will lead to another NBA call. 

At only 29 years old, he can still take another shot at making it back to the league.

Johnson played his first four-plus seasons in the NBA with the Pistons, who later traded him to the New Orleans Pelicans. He also spent time with the two seasons with the Toronto Raptors before signing with the Lakers in 2021. Johnson last saw action in the NBA in the 2022-23 campaign with the San Antonio Spurs.

What the Montreal Canadiens’ offense lacked on Wednesday, Habs defenseman Lane Hutson made up for with profanity following their 4-0 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Final at Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec.

Things have gone south for the Canadiens since their 6-2 win in Game 1 of the series. The Hurricanes eked out back-to-back overtime wins in Game 2 and Game 3 before finally winning in convincing fashion in Game 4.

Hutson’s frustration can largely be attributed to Montreal’s disjointed attack. The Hurricanes dominated the possession battle with 43 shots on goal to just 18 by the Habs, who also came up empty on two power-play opportunities.

In fact, Carolina’s shots on goal in Game 4 were equal to all the shots the Canadiens mustered from Game 2 to Game 4, according to OptaSTATS.

For all their struggles, the Canadiens still have a heartbeat in the series, and they will look to extend their season and guarantee at least one more game in Montreal when they face the Hurricanes in Game 5 on Friday at Lenovo Center in Raleigh, N.C.

Chicago White Sox pitcher David Sandlin had an unforgettable debut in the big leagues.

Sandlin pitched a gem in his MLB debut on Wednesday against the Minnesota Twins at Rate Field in Chicago, Ill., and it was not just any other strong performance on the mound. The 25-year-old right-handed hurler had a start like no other in at least the last 38 years.

Via OptaSTATS: “David Sandlin of the @whitesox threw 61 pitches in 6.0 innings in his MLB debut tonight (10.2 per inning). That’s the fewest pitches per inning by any pitcher in his MLB debut (min. 6.0 IP) since pitches were first tracked in 1988.”

Sandlin allowed just an earned run on one hit (a home run by Byron Buxton in the first inning) with four strikeouts and a walk to help the White Sox beat Minnesota, 15-2.

Moreover, Sandlin recovered from the home run he gave up to Buxton by retiring 18 consecutive batters, the most by a White Sox pitcher in his MLB debut in at least the last 100 years, according to Sarah Langs of MLB.com.

It also surely helped Sandlin’s confidence that the White Sox’s offense gave him ample run support, with Chicago scoring two runs in the second and third innings before erupting for five more in the fifth frame.

The White Sox called up Sandlin on Tuesday, via Elijah Evans of Just Baseball and Future Sox, and he proved himself ready for the big stage with a stellar outing.

The Tampa Bay Rays are experiencing some baseball malaise. Meanwhile, one of their pitchers literally looked sick on the mound during his team debut on Wednesday against the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Md.

Jonathan Heasley, making his first appearance in a Rays uniform, had a vomiting episode while pitching in relief in the fifth inning of the finale of the Orioles series. 

The 29-year-old right-handed pitcher was getting ready to throw a pitch before he started throwing up. A Tampa Bay staff member then went out to the mound to get Heasley some water and check on his condition.

Apparently, it was not the first time that Heasley had such a moment during a game. 

“Heasley actually talked to this about us pregame when he arrived here,” Rays Baseball reporter Ryan Bass shared during the broadcast.  “This is something he is actually regularly known for. He actually did hurl on the field when he was with Durham [in Triple-A].”

“He said when he used to play high school football, it would happen regularly. He just has a weak stomach. It sometimes happens when his nerves kick up a little bit. He said, ‘I’m totally fine.’”

Heasley somehow managed to stay in the game and finish it, but he had a barf-worthy performance overall, as he allowed five earned runs on eight hits with just two strikeouts through four innings in an 11-2 loss to the Orioles.

The Rays, who dropped to 34-19, have now lost four games in a row after getting swept by the Orioles.

The Los Angeles Dodgers will have to soldier on without Teoscar Hernandez for at least the foreseeable future.

Hernandez hurt his hamstring while trying to leg out a single on Wednesday during the second inning of their game against the Colorado Rockies at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, Calif. The veteran slugger immediately grabbed at his left hamstring after stepping on first base.

Hyeseong Kim came in and finished the game in place of Hernandez in left field as the Dodgers won 4-1.

After the game, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters that the team is still unsure of the severity of Hernandez’s injury but did state that initial testing with the outfielder went well.

“We’re gonna get a scan tomorrow,” Roberts said. “Obviously, it’s an IL. There’s just no timeline, but something like that obviously is gonna be a few weeks at the minimum.”

Hernandez entered the game batting .278 with 7 home runs and 31 RBIs across 50 games. The injury to Hernandez came just a day after Kike Hernandez hurt his oblique against the Rockies.

Shohei Ohtani on Wednesday once again proved how high a standard he has for himself.

The Los Angeles Dodgers’ two-way star was furious at his own pitching performance against the Colorado Rockies despite having a final line most major leaguers would pray for. Ohtani no-hit the Rockies across six innings with four walks and seven strikeouts in a 4-1 victory at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, Calif.

The Japanese superstar audibly cursed to himself several times in the game. He showed off his developing English vocabulary with some colorful language throughout the contest.

Ohtani threw 99 pitches with just 56 of them being strikes. The four walks were also the most he’s given up as a Dodgers pitcher. He made up for it with a leadoff home run, becoming the first Dodgers pitcher since Don Drysdale in 1959 to hit a homer and also throw six no-hit innings in the same game.

Veteran wide receiver Parris Campbell has opted to retire at the age of 28.

Campbell, a 2024 Super Bowl champion with the Philadelphia Eagles, is retiring from the NFL after seven pro seasons. Several reporters confirmed the news on Wednesday night, with the Dallas Cowboys placing him on the reserve/retired list.

The Indianapolis Colts selected Campbell in the second round of the 2019 NFL draft. The Ohio State alum played his first four seasons in Indy before a one-year stint with the New York Giants. He then followed star running back Saquon Barkley to the Eagles in 2024, earning them both Super Bowl rings.

The Cowboys signed Campbell a month after Super Bowl 59. Injuries limited his 2025 campaign in Dallas. Campbell was only able to play in one game — a Week 6 contest against the Carolina Panthers, wherein he was on the field for just two offensive snaps.

Campbell finishes his career with 1,117 receiving yards and 6 touchdowns across 50 games played.

JJ McCarthy and Kyler Murray do not seem to be hitting it off in the Minnesota Vikings’ schoolyard this offseason.

The third-year Vikings quarterback spoke to reporters on Wednesday during one of the team’s organized workouts. McCarthy was asked about his relationship with Murray, whom the Vikings signed in March.

The Michigan alum’s comments did not exactly paint the picture of the pair being best of pals whenever the bell rings during recess.

“It’s just like two guys in a classroom,” McCarthy said of his interactions with Murray. “He sits on one side, and I sit on the other side. It’s the coaches’ responsibility to teach us and coach us.”

Murray is widely expected to beat out McCarthy and Carson Wentz to become the Vikings’ starting QB in Week 1. With the Arizona Cardinals paying for most of Murray’s $36.8 million salary next season, Minnesota gets a virtually free chance to see if the former No. 1 overall pick can revitalize his career with a move up north.

The Oklahoma alum is head coach Kevin O’Connell’s latest reclamation project. The Vikings found success with such a formula under Sam Darnold, who shed his “bust” label with the team two seasons ago.

Murray, who has two Pro Bowl nods in his career, isn’t considered to be an outright bust just yet, but his career trajectory has not matched his draft status as the top pick in 2019.

A foot injury kept Murray out for most of last season. He threw for 962 yards with 6 touchdowns and 3 interceptions across 5 games in his final season in Arizona. McCarthy was not any better, tallying 1,632 passing yards with more interceptions (12) than touchdowns (11).

The NBA plans to take a page out of MLB’s playbook in the near future.

NBA commissioner Adam Silver appeared on “The Pat McAfee Show” on Wednesday and revealed that the league plans to start utilizing artificial intelligence to rule on out-of-bounds calls.

“In terms of replay,” Silver told McAfee. “We’re going to get to the point fairly quickly where, for example, out of bounds, we’re going to move to a system like [the Hawk-Eye system in professional tennis] where that whole category of calls will be automatic.

“It’s gonna be Laker ball, Knick ball, Thunder ball — those calls will be done by an AI-automated system with cameras lined around the court. It’ll take all of those so-called objective calls out of the hands of the referees. It’ll be instantaneous, it’ll be automatic, just play on.”

Silver added that he believes moving to such a system would allow referees to “give their full attention” toward the “subjective” calls that cameras and AI cannot measure, particularly in determining whether contact is a foul or not.

Silver did not commit to when the NBA would start using an AI-automatic system aside from stating that it would happen “fairly quickly.”

Those hoping for the change to happen by next season should probably lower their expectations. The league will probably roll out the system in the G League first before it reaches the NBA level, which should take at least another full season.

The NBA was likely encouraged by the success of MLB’s Automated Ball-Strike system implemented this season. And while ABS challenges lengthen MLB games, an automated out-of-bounds system should help speed up NBA games, in part by eliminating the need to review such calls.

Jared McCain was somehow still all smiles as he recounted the beating he took to end Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals.

The Oklahoma City Thunder guard got clobbered in the final two minutes of Tuesday’s playoff clash at Paycom Center in Oklahoma City, Okla. Some fans suspected Victor Wembanyama himself put a hit out on McCain after the Frenchman was seen whispering to veterans Mason Plumlee and Bismack Biyombo late in the 127-114 loss.

During a postgame interview, McCain shared the exchange he had with Plumlee after the 7-foot center clubbed him in the back.

“That was crazy,” McCain said. “I didn’t expect it, obviously. We were at the free throw line, too, and I was like, ‘Why’d you do that, man?’

“I’m just asking a question, and he’s like, ‘I’ve got another one for you, too.’ … But it’s all competition, so you’ve got to respect it.”

The Duke alum added that his Thunder teammates told him to stand in the corner until the final buzzer so as not to give the Spurs brutes any more opportunities to nail him. Aside from getting a forearm shiver from Plumlee, McCain also got smushed by Biyombo on a later drive.

The second-year guard finished with 20 points on 7/19 shooting in his first career playoff start.

McCain not taking serious offense to the blows or the verbal warning was pretty on-brand for one of the most positive players in the NBA. The 22-year-old even showed Daryl Morey grace after getting a chance to roast the former Philadelphia 76ers executive who traded him.

The latest attempt by Congress to provide some sort of oversight for college sports includes a rule that many are already naming after Lane Kiffin.

Senators Maria Cantwell (D-WA) and Ted Cruz (R-TX) unveiled the Protect College Sports Act on Wednesday, a bipartisan attempt to provide some sort of protection for the NCAA and its member schools.

The text of the bill was released to the media, and one particular section garnered a good amount of attention. The bill would prohibit coaches from jumping from one school to another during the same season, a provision that was quickly dubbed the “Lane Kiffin rule.”

Notably, the rule also would prohibit rival schools from poaching a coach before the season ends.

Kiffin may be the most famous instance, but plenty of college coaches have jumped from one program to another before the season ends. The fact that this can happen without repercussions has drawn criticism and is contrasted with players, who can only enter the transfer portal during certain periods during the year.

Kiffin’s decision to jump to LSU with his Ole Miss team heading for the College Football Playoff became a major distraction and created a lot of bad blood. Even in instances where such a situation is handled cordially, a lot of people are put in a very difficult spot that unquestionably impacts their ability to do their jobs. This bill would end that, or at least try to curtail it.

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts addressed speculation about his relationship with AJ Brown and the wide receiver’s future with the organization.

Hurts met with reporters during OTAs on Wednesday and was inevitably asked about Brown, who has been the subject of persistent trade rumors. The Eagles quarterback sought to downplay any talk of tension between the two, but admitted there is uncertainty about Brown’s future.

“There’s an if, obviously, it’s been a lingering thing. But nothing can replace all the greatness we achieved together,” Hurts said. “Nothing’s changed since we last spoke at the end of the season. We’re really good. I saw how beautiful the pictures came out of his wedding, and I’m very happy for him and his wife and his family.”

Hurts and Brown were once very close, but there seemed to be distance between them last season as the Eagles’ offense stagnated. Speculation about their future has intensified amid reports of some frustration with Hurts within the Eagles organization.

Brown has not been traded yet, nor has he requested one publicly. There have still been widespread rumors of a potential trade to an AFC contender which could still happen before the start of the season.

Novak Djokovic was frustrated with the crowd at Roland Garros on Wednesday as he faced off against Valentin Royer.

Djokovic was frustrated at crowd noise between points, including at least one instance where it interrupted his serve. Even after the crowd was admonished by the chair umpire, Djokovic was still annoyed with them.

The crowd was largely supportive of Royer, a Frenchman, especially when he pushed Djokovic to four sets. In the end, Djokovic did prevail, 6-3, 6-2, 6-7 (7), 6-3.

Though Djokovic garners support wherever he goes, there are moments when the crowd turns against him and things get rather antagonistic. That was the case Wednesday, even as the majority of the crowd behaved properly.

Djokovic will face Joao Fonseca in the third round of the tournament.

Milwaukee Brewers reliever Abner Uribe sparked controversy on Tuesday for the crotch chop celebration he aimed at the St. Louis Cardinals’ dugout. After the game, however, Uribe was unwilling to apologize to his opponent for what he did.

Uribe apologized to his teammates, fans, and manager Pat Murphy following his controversial celebration in his team’s 6-0 victory over the Cardinals at American Family Field in Milwaukee, Wisc. He did not, however, apologize to the Cardinals. Instead, he explained that his celebration was in direct response to his feeling that Cardinals manager Oli Marmol was threatening to have his pitchers throw at Milwaukee hitters.

“I understand that it’s unacceptable to go out there and react like that,” Uribe told reporters through an interpreter. “At the same time, I don’t think it’s professional for their manager to be making signs towards our dugout saying that he’s going to be hitting guys. There was an event that occurred during the practice today, too, and I don’t think that was right, so I have my teammates’ back, always.”

On Wednesday, it emerged that Marmol and the Cardinals believed that the Brewers were stealing their signs. Brewers players claimed Marmol gestured toward the Milwaukee dugout during Tuesday’s game and pointed to his ribs.

Marmol said the Cardinals were not happy with how blatant the Brewers were being and was trying to tell them not to get anyone hurt. He indicated that he felt the entire situation was being blown out of proportion.

“We felt like they were being pretty demonstrative about relaying from the dugout,” Marmol said, via Adam McCalvy of MLB.com. “I looked over, I said ‘Hey, don’t do it. Be smart. You’re going to get somebody hurt. Like, what are we trying to do here?'”

The Brewers and Cardinals sit first and second in the NL Central, respectively, so there is something of a budding rivalry between them. In addition, Uribe has some history of his own, as he was at the center of a bench-clearing brawl in 2024.

San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama has been disciplined by the NBA for breaching one of its rules after his team’s Game 5 loss.

Wembanyama did not meet with the media after San Antonio’s 127-114 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Tuesday at Paycom Center in Oklahoma City, Okla. This was a violation of the league’s media access rules, and Wembanyama received a warning from the league office.

The Spurs center will not, however, face any fines.

Wembanyama was under obligation to speak to the media after the game. Reports indicated that he went directly to the team bus after the game and ignored media members who were speaking to his teammates.

One can certainly understand why Wembanyama was not in a talkative mood after Game 5. His team lost by double digits, and he was held to 20 points on 4-for-15 shooting. Needless to say, that was not the performance he was looking for in a crucial swing game.

Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs has been released from police custody without charges, but that may prove to be a temporary situation.

The Brown County District Attorney announced Wednesday that no charges would yet be fired against Jacobs after his recent arrest for domestic violence. However, this is because attorneys are seeking additional information and believe additional evidence may exist that would impact the necessity of charges.

There was no indication regarding when a charging decision might be made regarding Jacobs. It is also worth remembering that the NFL has the authority to punish Jacobs even without criminal charges, and an investigation into the circumstances of his arrest will likely occur no matter what decision is made by the authorities.

Jacobs was arrested late last week on a series of disturbing domestic violence charges. He has denied all of the allegations. The 28-year-old ran for 929 yards and 13 touchdowns this past year for Green Bay.

A top Los Angeles Dodgers prospect suffered an injury Monday while trying to avoid the designated bat dog.

Kendall George, rated as the No. 13 prospect in the Dodgers’ system, suffered a knee injury while facing the Double-A Tulsa Drillers. George was returning to the dugout after scoring on a single, and had to awkwardly jump to avoid the Drillers’ bat dog, who was going out to retrieve a discarded bat.

Replays showed that George was visibly angry and unable to put any weight on his right leg after the incident. He was removed from the game.

Initial tests on the knee were “not positive,” according to Fabian Ardaya and Jesús Cano of The Athletic. However, the organization is still waiting on the official results to make a determination on the next course of action.

Bat dogs are a somewhat common phenomenon at the minor league level. Predictably, the dogs sometimes do not do their job quite to perfection, but this is the first instance we have seen of one actually inadvertently injuring another player.

George was the Dodgers’ first-round pick in the 2023 draft. He is hitting .333 with an .814 OPS and 26 stolen bases so far on the season.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes got a friendly shot in at Travis Kelce after it was announced that Kelce is joining the Cleveland Guardians’ ownership group.

Mahomes congratulated Kelce on his new investment in a post on X Wednesday. He then posted a video of Kelce’s infamously spiked ceremonial first pitch back in 2023.

Kelce threw out the ceremonial first pitch for the Guardians’ home opener in 2023. Over three years later, he still hasn’t lived it down. Mahomes, in particular, gave Kelce a hard time about it then and has clearly not forgotten about it.

It’s worth noting that Mahomes is a minority investor in the Kansas City Royals, one of Cleveland’s AL Central rivals. That means the Chiefs quarterback has some extra reasons to poke at Kelce over this.

Kelce officially joined the Guardians as a minority investor on Wednesday. How big his share is and how much he invested were not publicly announced.

None other than New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani showed his excitement for what the Knicks have in store for their fans after the team won the swept the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Finals.

Before unveiling a major housing proposal on Tuesday, Mamdani addressed the crowd with a little pop culture reference to highlight just how long New York waited for the Knicks to get this far in the NBA Playoffs.

It has been that long indeed. 

Mamdani did not mention it, but several players on the current New York roster weren’t even born yet when Latrell Sprewell, Allan Houston, Marcus Camby and the Knicks went up against Tim Duncan, David Robinson, and the San Antonio Spurs in the 1999 NBA Finals. 

San Antonio raised the Larry O’Brien Trophy that year and later won multiple NBA titles, while the Knicks faded just like Ricky Martin’s star over the years.

Georgia Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart had some kind words for ESPN’s Laura Rutledge after learning about her major career move.

In a heartfelt statement shared on Tuesday, Rutledge announced that she is leaving SEC Nation.

“Ten years ago, I walked onto this set not fully knowing what the journey would become. Today, I walk away knowing it became one of the most meaningful chapters of my life,” Rutledge wrote.

During the SEC spring meetings that day, Smart held a presser, but before addressing any other subjects, he made sure to give Rutledge her flowers.

“Shout out to Laura Rutledge. I found out this morning that she is going to be moving on away from her SEC duties, but I have a lot of respect for her,” Smart told reporters, via SEC Network.

Smart is definitely familiar with Rutledge, having spent a long time in the SEC and beginning his tenure as Georgia head coach in 2016. Before that, he was on Nick Saban’s Alabama Crimson Tide coaching staff.

“I feel like she and I have been in the SEC the same amount of time,” continued Smart. “With the tenure I’ve had and the tenure she’s had, she’s a good friend and a lot of respect for the work she’s done. I appreciate her service and wish her nothing but the best moving on.”

Despite her SEC Nation departure, Rutledge will still be very much around football, as she continues her work as an NFL Live host and as a sideline reporter for Monday Night Football.

The Texas Rangers just had one of the wildest two-game turnarounds of the 2026 MLB season.

On Monday, the Rangers found themselves on the wrong end of history when they were no-hit in a 9-0 loss to the Houston Astros in a series opener at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.

A day later, the Rangers hit back at Houston, and they did it early, scoring eight runs right in the very first inning in the second game of the series on Tuesday.

With that, the Rangers became just the first team in over a century to have such a dramatic shift in consecutive games.

“Per Elias, the Rangers are the first team since the 1905 Chicago White Sox to record 8 or more runs in the 1st inning following a game in which they were no-hit,” ESPN Insights shared on X.

The Astros’ offense would later come alive, but Texas weathered Houston’s comeback attempt to come away with a 10-7 victory.

Houston pitcher Jason Alexander was responsible for Texas’ first-inning onslaught, but he managed to last until the sixth inning, finishing his brutal start with 9 earned runs on 6 hits, 2 walks, and 4 strikeouts.

With that win, the Rangers snapped their four-game losing skid and improved to 25-29, while the Astros dropped to 24-32 after seeing their four-game winning streak end.

Victor Wembanyama always makes for an interesting postgame presser, but not on Tuesday.

The star big man grabbed attention after the San Antonio Spurs’ 127-114 loss in Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder at Paycom Center in Oklahoma City, Okla., when he decided to skip talking to the media.

Sam Amick of The Athletic reported that the reigning NBA Defensive Player of the Year ignored reporters and went straight to the team bus while Spurs guard De’Aaron Fox was still talking to the media.

It was unclear why Wembanyama skipped his postgame media duties, but he was likely not in the mood, given his subpar play against the Thunder. 

In Game 5, he shot 4-for-15 from the floor, finishing with 20 points, with most coming from the foul line, where he went 12-for-12. 

Wembanyama added 6 rebounds, 3 blocks, 2 steals and 1 assist in 38 minutes, as the Spurs see Oklahoma City grab a 3-2 series lead.

It remains to be seen whether the former Rookie of the Year will receive any punishment from the league for his postgame actions, but in any case, it was not a good look for Wembanyama to avoid the horde of media members waiting to hear his thoughts on the game and his performance.

Travis Kelce is venturing into the world of baseball.

The Kansas City Chiefs’ superstar tight end is expanding his business portfolio, with MLB insider Jeff Passan of ESPN reporting that Kelce is joining the ownership group of the Cleveland Guardians as a minority investor.

For Kelce, this further strengthens his bond with his roots.

“I have so much love for this city,” the future Pro Football Hall of Famer told ESPN on Wednesday. “I say it all the time: I’m just a kid from the Heights living the dream. I credit every good thing in my life to Cleveland and being raised here with the values and the people and the work ethic.”

Of course, passion for Cleveland sports is not enough for Kelce to buy a stake in a major pro sports franchise. 

The 11-time Pro Bowler has earned over $111 million in salary during his NFL career, but he also has plenty of other money-making endeavors, such as his investment in the Alpine Formula 1 team. Moreover, owns the steakhouse 1587 Prime with teammate and Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

The San Diego Padres started it on Tuesday, when they showed a sign on the video board to troll Harper while he was taking his at-bat in the fifth inning of the game at Petco Park in San Diego, Calif.

Harper also got heavily trolled online after the clip of his brushing habit went viral on Monday. 

Being different can have its repercussions, such as getting ridiculed en masse, but Harper has been around in the big leagues long enough to develop a thick skin.

Despite the trolling, Harper went 2-for-2 with 2 walks and 2 runs scored. He hushed Padres fans early when he launched a solo home run in the first inning to put the Phillies on the board first.

When it was all said and done in the game,  Harper had a reason to flash his pearly whites as the Phillies got the last laugh with a 4-3 victory.

So far in the 2026 MLB season, the 33-year-old Harper is hitting .272/.367/.533 with 13 home runs and 33 RBIs through 55 games.

Some fans seem to believe Victor Wembanyama asked a pair of San Antonio Spurs veterans to inflict some pain on Oklahoma City Thunder guard Jared McCain.

The Spurs, trailing 120-106 late in Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals, took Wemby out of the contest with just over two minutes left. Wembanyama appeared to whisper something to incoming substitutes Mason Plumlee and Bismack Biyombo as they traded places on the floor at Paycom Center in Oklahoma City, Okla.

In the ensuing minutes, Plumlee would deck McCain with an elbow to the back. A few possessions later, Biyombo pancaked McCain on a drive to the rim. The punishment toward McCain had more than a few fans speculating that those incidents were on Wembanyama’s instruction.

Just like in Game 3, McCain was once again a menace on offense for the Thunder in Game 5, finishing with 20 points in his first-ever playoff start. He stepped up in a big way in the absence of Jalen Williams and Ajay Mitchell to help OKC secure a 127-114 win.

There’s no way to prove that Wembanyama did ask for his Spurs goons to clobber McCain. But it’s interesting to note that Wemby did leave Paycom Center without addressing the media.

The Frenchman was clearly not in the best of moods after a relatively underwhelming Game 5 performance. He went 4/15 from the field for 20 points, scoring primarily from the free throw line.

The Chicago Bulls finally got to reach out to one of their head coaching candidates after the Cleveland Cavaliers were eliminated from the postseason.

The Bulls have reportedly received permission from the Cavaliers to interview Cleveland’s associate head coach Johnnie Bryant for their head coaching vacancy. According to Andscape’s Marc Spears, Chicago has been waiting for the conclusion of the Cavs’ season to get in touch with Bryant.

The 40-year-old has been an NBA assistant coach for 12 years. The former Utah Utes standout joined the Utah Jazz’s coaching staff from 2014 to 2020.

Bryant was named associate head coach of the New York Knicks in 2020 during Tom Thibodeau’s first year with the team. Bryant took the same role as Kenny Atkinson took the top job with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2024.

With half a dozen years as the second-in-command on playoff teams under his belt, Bryant appears to be a prime candidate to get a head coaching opportunity on a young team like the Bulls. Bryant nearly landed the Phoenix Suns job last offseason before the Western Conference team went with Jordan Ott.

Billy Donovan stepped down as Chicago’s head coach last month after six mostly lackluster seasons with the team. The Bulls are casting a wide net to find Donovan’s replacement. The team reportedly expressed interest in a former NBA All-Star for the job as well.

Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald wants his team only looking forward on the heels of a magical Super Bowl run last season.

Macdonald has been known to be deliberate in how he communicates with his team, and that has not changed with a Super Bowl ring in his trophy cabinet. He spoke to reporters on Tuesday and shared his team’s new rallying crew ahead of Seattle’s title defense in 2026.

“We’re using the term we want to ‘run it forward,’ with ‘it’ meaning our process and who we are,” Macdonald said during a press conference. “I think this is going to be a conversation, something that we’re going to talk about consistently. …

“It’s how we talk about how we operate all the time. We’re having conversations with our team and our units every day about who we want to be and how we want to do things. This situation is no different.”

Asked who came up with the tagline of “run it forward,” Macdonald had a cheeky reply.

“If you like it, I’ll take credit for it,” the Seahawks coach added. “If not, somebody else.”

It’s not uncommon for teams to have Super Bowl hangovers, which often makes it more difficult for reigning champions to get back on the main stage. The term often used by contending teams is to “run it back,” but Macdonald wants to rewire the way his team thinks to keep their competitive fire going.

Coaches are hired primarily for their game-planning and play-calling on the field. But the culture coaches build behind the scenes can sometimes be just as important.

The San Antonio Spurs had plenty of legitimate gripes with the officiating on Tuesday during Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals.

The Spurs came into the Oklahoma City Thunder’s house looking to steal a victory. But there seemed to be a lot of home cooking going on at Paycom Center in Oklahoma City, Okla.

While referees miss a few calls every game, there seemed to be several blatant errors or non-calls that went against the Spurs. One first-half example was rookie Dylan Harper getting caught by an elbow from Jared McCain, but the former was the one who got whistled for a foul.

San Antonio wanted to get a challenge in to reverse the ruling, but the referees did not grant head coach Mitch Johnson’s call for a review. Johnson, who had his call for a review ignored right in front of one official, was assessed a technical foul for complaining.

Christian Pulisic had zero patience for any boilerplate questions hurled at him on Tuesday.

The American soccer superstar made his return stateside after being named to the U.S. FIFA World Cup roster. During his first press conference since the news, Pulisic may have been a little grumpy after his 9-hour transatlantic flight from Milan to New York.

Pulisic reportedly “seemed annoyed” when asked about the “pressure” that comes with being the most recognizable name on the host country’s roster.

“I feel like I’ve been asked this question so many times,” Pulisic responded. “So I’m not going to get into it anymore. I mean, there’s pressure, it’s a World Cup.”

Mike Brown played the role of motivator to a tee as his New York Knicks look to continue their torrid postseason run.

The Knicks have had lengthy waits before each of their last two series. They had four days off before Game 1 of their Eastern Conference semifinals matchup against the Philadelphia 76ers, who went to seven games against the Boston Celtics. New York had nine days of rest before taking on the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Finals.

Despite all the time off, the Knicks showed zero rust against both opponents. New York brought out the brooms both times for decisive sweeps. Brown’s motivational tactics may have been a part of it.

Before the conference finals, the Knicks head coach reportedly showed his team a compilation video of each player’s reaction to getting eliminated by the Indiana Pacers last season two games short of the NBA Finals.

The Los Angeles Chargers selected safety Derwin James 17th overall in the 2018 NFL Draft.

Now, James has become the highest-paid safety in NFL history after the two sides agreed to a new contract on Tuesday.

James agreed to a three-year deal worth $75.6 million with $57.5 million guaranteed, with an average annual value of $25.2 million.

James suffered an injury during his final college season at Florida State, which caused him to fall a bit in the draft, but he was always viewed as a star.

James missed the entire 2020 season with an injury, but he has made the Pro Bowl four times in the past five seasons while being a force on the Chargers’ defense.

James has played in 16 regular-season games in each of the past three seasons, and he had 50 total tackles with 2 sacks and 3 interceptions in 2025.

The Chargers watched defensive coordinator Jesse Minter leave to become the head coach of the Baltimore Ravens. In turn, the Chargers hired Chris O’Leary, who was LA’s safeties coach in 2024 before taking the DC job in 2025 at Western Michigan.

So, with the Chargers kicking off OTAs, the Derwin James contract extension can be one item marked off the checklist.

The New Orleans Pelicans are beginning a new era with former Orlando Magic coach Jamahl Mosley named as the new head coach.

Mosley just brought the Magic to another playoff trip before he was fired after a first-round exit, and now he has work to do in New Orleans.

One order of business is regarding superstar big man Zion Williamson. And, while Williamson’s name has surfaced time and time again in trade rumors, all signs point to New Orleans sticking with the former No. 1 pick a bit longer.

Williamson said in April that New Orleans is “home” and the place he wants to be, despite his name being involved in trade rumblings.

Another report suggested that the Pelicans were even thinking of a contract extension for Williamson, who is just 25 years old and was the top pick in the 2019 NBA Draft after a stellar run at Duke.

Williamson played 62 games this season, the second-most of his NBA career and just the third time he has played more than 30 games in a season.

So, if Mosley can unlock Williamson’s full potential, the Pelicans could be a fun team to watch going forward.

The Green Bay Packers officially began OTAs on Tuesday, but one name might not be there for some time.

Star running back Josh Jacobs was arrested and booked into jail on five charges related to domestic abuse.

• Criminal damage to property/domestic abuse
• Disorderly conduct/domestic abuse
• Strangulation and suffocation
• Intimidation of a victim

Jacobs’ attorneys, David Chesnoff and Richard Schonfeld, released a statement saying that the Packers RB “vehemently denies the allegations.”

“Josh vehemently denies the allegations, and this matter is in the early stages of investigation with important evidence that has not yet been made public. We ask for fairness and restraint while the judicial process takes its course,” the statement read, via Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

A Packers spokesperson also issued a statement.

“We are aware of the matter involving Josh Jacobs. As it is an ongoing legal situation, we will withhold further comment.”

Jacobs, who was selected No. 24 overall by the then-Oakland Raiders in the 2019 NFL Draft, played five seasons with the Raiders before signing with the Packers in 2024.

Jacobs rushed for 1,329 yards in 2024 with 15 touchdowns, and he had 929 yards and 13 touchdowns this past year for Green Bay.

Jacobs was expected to be a massive part of the offense once again, but this arrest brings a lot of questions into focus on his immediate future.

Tony Parker is a San Antonio Spurs legend who is in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame with four NBA Finals victories and an NBA Finals MVP on his resume.

Now, Parker is set to become a head coach overseas. According to Donatas Urbonas of BasketNews, Parker is set to become the head coach of ASVEL Villeurbanne in France in the EuroLeague.

And Parker is set to earn the richest contract in French basketball history.

“According to BasketNews sources, Parker is projected to earn around €1.2 million annually, a figure that would likely make it the richest coaching contract in French basketball history,” Urbonas wrote.

Parker retired from the NBA in 2019 after playing his final season with the Charlotte Hornets, and he revealed he wanted to spend time with Michael Jordan.

Parker’s ties to the ASVEL run deep. The Spurs legend bought a stake in the franchise in 2009, then signed with them in 2011 during the NBA lockout.

Parker recently sold his shares of the franchise and transitioned to being the club president, and he is now set to be the head coach in a massive move.

Pierric Poupet, the former coach for ASVEL, had a salary of “about 10 percent” of Parker’s deal, according to BasketNews, so this is a major investment for a franchise hoping to turn things around.

ASVEL Villeurbanne finished with an 8-30 record, which ended up as 20th in the EuroLeague this past season.

The Detroit Tigers are anxiously waiting for star pitcher Tarik Skubal to come back after he underwent surgery at the beginning of May.

Skubal underwent surgery to have loose bodies removed from his elbow, and the initial timeframe for a return was anywhere between 2 and 3 months.

However, Tigers manager A.J. Hinch dropped a positive update on Skubal. Hinch said Skubal threw a live BP session and said it was “really encouraging.”

Skubal, the 2025 American League Cy Young winner, threw a bullpen recently at Comerica Park, so this is the latest in a string of positive developments for the Tigers’ star pitcher.

Currently, Skubal’s name has been in plenty of trade rumors, and a report mentioned four teams that are expected to be interested in the reigning Cy Young winner: The Los Angeles Dodgers, San Diego Padres, New York Yankees and Toronto Blue Jays.

The Tigers have still given no indication of whether or not they will trade him, but everything should become clearer when Skubal returns to the big-league club.

Brendan Sorsby’s time as the Texas Tech Red Raiders quarterback might be over before it even started.

On Tuesday, the NCAA denied Sorsby’s request for reinstatement for eligibility after he finished a 35-day inpatient rehab for his gambling addiction.

Shortly after, Sorsby took to Instagram with a heartfelt message. Sorsby said he accepts responsibility for his actions, and he finished the statement by issuing an apology.

“I am deeply sorry to everyone I have disappointed and am committed to the hard and necessary work ahead.”

Sorsby checked himself into rehab for gambling at the end of April, and reports stated that the quarterback made bets on his own team while he was a backup at Indiana.

Sorsby transferred to Texas Tech this offseason after starring at Cincinnati, and he was one of the best players in the transfer portal.

If Sorsby enters the NFL Supplemental Draft, it will be a domino effect at Texas Tech and in the NFL, as several teams will likely be interested in Sorsby.

Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo has been linked to a new potential destination in trade rumors this summer.

ESPN’s Brian Windhorst noted that the Cleveland Cavaliers are likely to make significant changes to their roster after being swept by the New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference Finals. He expects that to include them at least looking at acquiring Antetokounmpo.

“I expect them to make some significant changes to it,” Windhorst said of Cleveland’s roster. “I don’t think it will be long before you start to hear Cavs attached to Giannis Antetokounmpo. Would they consider entering that market? If they put Evan Mobley on the table, as hard as that would be, they drafted him to be another Giannis. What if they could turn him into Giannis with (James) Harden and Donovan Mitchell on the roster?”

Antetokounmpo is believed to want to stay in the Eastern Conference and play for a contender. In theory, the Cavaliers tick both of those boxes. Whether the Bucks would want to send him to a division rival is another question entirely, especially when they are likely to have other options.

Still, the notion of Antetokounmpo with Cleveland is tantalizing, even if it would cost them a player like Mobley. Based on the moves they are making, the Cavs are definitely in win-now mode, and trying to land Giannis would absolutely be a statement of intent on their part.

New Florida coach Jon Sumrall tried to contrast himself with Lane Kiffin on Tuesday, but nobody was buying it.

Sumrall accepted the Gators job while still coaching Tulane, which was still in the College Football Playoff at the time. Lane Kiffin did the same by going from Ole Miss to LSU, but Sumrall was allowed to coach Tulane until the end of their season, while Kiffin was not permitted to coach Ole Miss.

On Tuesday, Sumrall said if the choice had come down to it, he would have stayed at Tulane and passed on the Florida job if he had to leave the Green Wave before the end of the season.

“I would’ve stayed at Tulane and not taken another job,” Sumrall claimed. “We were playing for a championship. That’s not a shot at anybody.”

If Tulane had not allowed Jon Sumrall to coach in the CFP while taking the Florida job, what would he had done?

Sumrall was permitted to work both jobs simultaneously because Tulane and Florida aren’t competing for the same recruits with the same resources. Thus, he did not have to make that decision. It is very hard to believe, however, that he would have passed up the chance to go to Florida if he had actually faced such a situation.

The general consensus was that it was easy for Sumrall to say this now without having had to actually make the choice.

This is so disingenuous. The only honest answer to this is “I’m not sure what I would have done. I’d have wanted to coach.”

The NCAA has made its decision regarding the eligibility of Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby.

Sorsby’s request for reinstatement was denied by the NCAA, according to Pete Thamel of ESPN. That means the quarterback will not be eligible to play in 2026.

Sorsby admitted to placing bets on Indiana while a member of the Hoosiers in 2022, which is against NCAA rules. He checked himself into rehab in late April due to a gambling addiction, but has completed in-patient treatment.

Sorsby is taking the NCAA to court over his eligibility already, so this does not come as a huge shock. That court date is scheduled for June 1.

Texas Tech landed Sorsby as a transfer from Cincinnati during the offseason, and he was set to be the team’s starting quarterback in 2026. He threw for 2,800 yards and 27 touchdowns with the Bearcats last season, and was a second-team All-Big 12 selection.

If Sorsby’s legal appeals are denied, the quarterback could enter the NFL’s supplemental draft, which usually takes place sometime in July.

Georgia Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart thinks the SEC should consider something radical to get what it is owed in the world of college football.

Smart said the SEC should consider breaking away from the NCAA to set its own rules, including a possible SEC-only playoff. The Georgia coach believes the conference is strong enough to stand on its own, if necessary.

“I’ve been a huge advocate that we can’t find rules that everybody played by, then we should play by our own. I’m not afraid of that,” Smart said Tuesday, via Seth Emerson of The Athletic. “I’m not afraid to break away and say that our conference is strong enough to go out and have and play — I mean, like, if we could actually function and it financially would make our programs more stable, and we could support things financially. I’m talking about all the sports and do by our own rules. I’d be all for that.”

Nothing like this is likely to happen anytime soon, but the idea has been tossed about amid frustrations about the lack of uniform rules that are currently enforceable in college sports. Essentially, the SEC would break away from the NCAA and make its own rules that would not require other major conferences to agree to.

Talk about other potential changes, including an expanded College Football Playoff, has also picked up recently. The running theme is that nobody is happy with how things are going in college sports, but finding a consensus on how to change it is proving difficult.

The Cleveland Cavaliers wasted little time in deciding on the future of head coach Kenny Atkinson after their loss to the New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference Finals.

The Cavaliers plan to retain Atkinson and his coaching staff, according to Joe Vardon of The Athletic. The move comes less than 24 hours after the team’s season-ending 130-93 loss to the Knicks, which saw them swept out of the playoffs.

The decision to keep Atkinson will be a controversial one. He was widely criticized for holding on to his timeouts as the Cavaliers blew a 22-point fourth quarter lead in Game 1. He drew further derision for claiming that the Cavaliers were winning the series analytically, even though his team was on the brink of being swept. The fact that many felt his team quit in Game 4 did not reflect well on him, either.

Atkinson is 116-48 in the regular season since joining the Cavs and won Coach of the Year honors in 2025. However, he is just 13-14 in the playoffs, and while reaching the Eastern Conference Final this season counted as something of a breakthrough, their performance once they got their led to more questions than answers.

The Cavaliers have some key roster decisions to make, though they appear to have already made one big one. Presumably, Atkinson will be expected to progress even further in the playoffs next year, or he might not be back for a fourth season.

Coco Gauff had an unexpected incident on Tuesday as she prepared for her French Open match against Taylor Townsend.

Gauff admitted that she got into a minor car accident on her way to Roland Garros on Tuesday. The incident even left the vehicle undrivable, and she had to find an alternate way to get to the grounds.

“We kind of got in a mini car accident on our way to the site today,” Gauff admitted. “There’s this pole thing, and it’s supposed to go down, and the police told him to go, and the pole was still there, so we ran into it. You felt a little impact. I spilled my juice all over the car.”

Gauff wound up having to take a taxi the rest of the way, but made it without further incident. She was hopeful that the accident might actually prove to be a good omen and that she is getting her bad luck out of the way off the court.

One can question whether Gauff needs the luck. She is the defending champion at Roland Garros, and she beat Townsend in straight sets on Tuesday to advance to the second round.

Jeff Van Gundy coached the New York Knicks the last time they made a run to the playoffs, but he thinks what the current team is doing far surpasses that.

Van Gundy proclaimed the Knicks the favorites to win it all after they swept the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Finals on Monday night. Not only that, but Van Gundy thinks the Knicks are in the midst of the best playoff run in franchise history.

“You can say, well, Atlanta this and Philly and Cleveland that, but when you win road playoff games by 50, and you’re kicking a– and taking names, anybody who tries to diminish that is wrong,” Van Gundy told Ian O’Connor of The Athletic. “This is the greatest playoff run in Knicks history. They still have to win it, but there’s never been a Knicks team this dominant. They are just waylaying people.”

Van Gundy is right about the Knicks’ recent dominance. They haven’t even had a single-digit win since Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Semi-finals against Philadelphia, and once the Cavaliers collapsed in Game 1, the series was never competitive again.

As Van Gundy said, the Knicks still need to win the title to cap it off, and the Oklahoma City Thunder or San Antonio Spurs will prove a difficult foe. At this point, however, they will rightly believe they have a chance to pull off a championship.

Manny Fernandez, a legendary figure on the 1970s Miami Dolphins, has died, the team announced Tuesday.

The Dolphins paid tribute to Fernandez on social media with a memorial post, though no information was available on his cause of death.

“His consistency and selfless contributions on the field were instrumental to the Dolphins’ success throughout the early 1970s, particularly in the team’s three consecutive Super Bowl appearances, in which he produced some of the most memorable defensive performances in the history of the game,” the statement read.

Fernandez helped anchor the defense for the perfect 1972 Dolphins as a standout defensive tackle. He had six tackles and a sack in the Super Bowl win that capped off that perfect season, and was an integral part of the team’s repeat championship in 1973 as well.

The Dolphins inducted Fernandez into the team’s Ring of Honor in 2014. In eight total seasons with the Dolphins across the AFL and NFL, he had 35 sacks, and he finished ninth in MVP voting in 1970.

Jalen Brunson was not going to fall for it this time around.

As Brunson was about to be interviewed by ESPN’s Lisa Salters amid the Knicks’ celebration following their 130-93 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday, the New York star point guard asked his teammate, Josh Hart, to get out of the frame. 

Hart immediately obliged to leave, raising both his arms as he walked away to acknowledge what Brunson wanted.

It wasn’t clear why Brunson specifically wanted Hart to give him some space, but it’s possible it had something to do with Hart goosing the three-time NBA All-Star back in December, when the Knicks celebrated their NBA Cup title.

Brunson had not forgotten that act by Hart, apparently, and he was not going to let him do it again in front of a national audience. 

With the Knicks clinching a spot in the 2026 NBA Finals with their Game 4 win at Rocket Arena in Cleveland, Ohio, Brunson may have to worry about Hart finding a way to execute his plan to goose him on the league’s grandest stage.

But the main focus for Brunson and the Knicks is clearly winning it all and bringing an NBA title to the Big Apple for the first time since 1973.

Donovan Mitchell and the Cleveland Cavaliers are dealing with heartbreak after their season came to a harsh end on Monday, when the New York Knicks completed a four-game sweep in the Eastern Conference Finals.

The Cavs may have to make some big moves in the offseason to get over the hump, but does Mitchell want LeBron James to have another Cleveland comeback? The Cavaliers shooting guard would rather not talk about it.

“That is not for me. I am not trying to get a headline. That’s a [President of Basketball Operations] Koby Altman question, that’s a [General Manager] Mike Gansey question,” Mitchell said when asked about the potential of James’ return to Cleveland after the Cavs’ 130-93 Game 4 loss to the Knicks at Rocket Arena in Cleveland, Ohio, via Danny Cunningham on Locked On Cavs.

James’ future amid his looming free agency status was probably the last thing on Mitchell’s mind after the game. The Cavaliers rolled into the Eastern Conference Finals with high hopes after pulling off a second-round upset against the Detroit Pistons, but a painful Game 1 meltdown against the Knicks seemed to deflate Cleveland’s morale as they failed to win a game in the series.

James’ future is unclear, but a potential farewell season with the Cavs would be a fitting outro to the four-time NBA MVP’s incredible career.

Among his targets after helping the Knicks win the Eastern Conference title was Jose Alvarado, whose photo with the Bob Cousy Trophy became a subject of one of Hart’s posts on Instagram Stories.

Despite the hilarious tone of Hart’s message, it is hard to deny that Alvarado’s move to the Knicks has significantly changed the course of his career. It is not getting much better for the New York Mets, and manager Carlos Mendoza is also running out of words to express his dismay over what the club is going through.

After getting swept in a three-game series against the Miami Marlins, the Mets returned home and took another stumble on Monday, losing to the visiting Cincinnati Reds, 7-2, at Citi Field in Queens, N.Y.

“They’re all frustrating, especially when you’re not playing well,” Mendoza told reporters about the Mets’ losses, via SNY. “They’re all the same, to be honest with you. It sucks.”

No one probably had it worse in the Reds game than New York starter Nolan McLean, who gave up seven earned runs on five hits in just 3 1/3 innings. Cincinnati scored the first seven runs of the contest, and it was not until the sixth frame that the Mets’ offense put a run on the board.

Mendoza received some assurance about his job security as the Mets skipper in April, but his seat may be getting warmer again with the losses piling up for New York. Currently last in the NL East standings with a 22-32 record, the Mets are given just 16.6% chance to make the MLB playoffs by FanGraphs.

Seattle Mariners pitcher Luis Castillo was not a happy man when he was pulled from Monday’s game against the Athletics at Sutter Health Park in Sacramento, Calif.

Castillo knew he was part of the Mariners’ piggyback plan with Bryce Miller, but he still didn’t seem to like being pulled amid a solid start against the A’s.

After a lengthy discussion with Seattle manager Dan Wilson in the dugout during the top of the fifth inning, Castillo took off his jacket and slammed it on the bench.

The three-time All-Star Castillo just wanted to pitch a little bit more, as he was having a night on the mound.

In four innings of work, he allowed zero earned runs on two hits while issuing two walks and recording six strikeouts. It was his best outing in quite some time, so it was tough for him to surrender pitching duties to another pitcher after just 68 pitches, even if that was the plan all along.

“I was kind of asking, ‘Maybe one more inning?’” Castillo said through an interpreter, via Daniel Kramer of MLB.com.

“He told me that Bryce was ready. But as a competitor, you kind of want to go out there and just continue. But at the same time, you’ve got to respect his position. We knew that was part of the plan, and you’ve got to respect what his decision was.”

The good news for Castillo and the Mariners is that Miller did not waste Castillo’s great start. Miller gave up two earned runs on five hits, but he struck out four Athletics hitters, as Seattle came away with a 9-2 win.

Jacob Misiorowski’s arm is something else.

The hard-throwing ace of the Milwaukee Brewers had everyone buzzing again on Monday, as he recorded a record-breaking total of 57 pitches of 100+ 100 MPH during a game against the St. Louis Cardinals at American Family Field in Milwaukee, Wis.

Misiorowski bested the previous MLB mark of 47 by Cincinnati Reds pitcher Hunter Greene back in 2022.

The 2025 MLB All-Star Misiorowski, however, made his performance sound like it was just another day at the office for him.

“That’s what I do,” Misiorowski said, via Adam McCalvy of MLB.com. “I throw hard.”

But Misiorowski is more than just about putting radar guns to the test.

In the 5-1 victory over the Cardinals, Misiorowski had 71 of his 96 pitches go for strikes, while allowing just an earned run on two hits with 12 punchouts in seven innings of work on the mound.

Misiorowski’s brilliance is a constant in what is turning out to be another overachieving season for the Brewers.

If he sustains his form, the 24-year-old righty could win a National League Cy Young Award in just his second season in the big leagues.

So far in the 2026 campaign, Misiorowski has a 5-2 record, 1.83 ERA and 100 strikeouts across 11 starts.

James Harden took a page out of Kenny Atkinson’s book of questionable postgame takes after getting swept out of the Eastern Conference Finals.

The Cleveland Cavaliers star was a no-show with his team’s postseason survival on the line in Game 4 at Rocket Arena in Cleveland, Ohio. Harden scored 12 points on 2/8 shooting to go along with two assists and four rebounds.

In what is becoming Harden’s signature playoff stat, the former NBA MVP once again had more turnovers (5) than made field goals (2). His Cavs got blitzed from the first quarter onwards, losing 130-93 without putting up much of a fight beyond the first two minutes of the contest.

Despite that, Harden did not think the Knicks were better than his Cavaliers. The 11-time All-Star was asked about what the talent gap was between his team and the squad that beat them.

“I can’t even answer that question, honestly,” Harden said during his postgame press conference.

“Yeah, it’s 4-0, but I don’t think we had a chance as far as our best shot from a standpoint of the circumstances. Obviously, they dominated us 4-0, but I don’t know if I can necessarily answer that question. Because genuinely, I do feel like we are the better team.”

Harden did admit that his stance that his was the better team “didn’t show” in the series, which hilariously feels like Atkinson claiming the Cavaliers were “analytically” better than the Knicks in Games 1 through 3.

The Cavaliers did look like the better team through the first 3.5 quarters of the series, when Cleveland led Game 1 by 22 points midway through the fourth quarter. But the Knicks came roaring back with to win by 11 in overtime, and it’s been all downhill from there for Cleveland.

When your team gets swept with an average margin of defeat of 19.3, nobody is going to believe you had the better team.

It’s one thing to beat up on a string of tanking teams in the regular season. It’s another to pulverize playoff-caliber squads to dust with the stakes elevated and the game-to-game planning heightened.

But Chalamet was able to pull some strings to watch from up close as his Knicks laid the smackdown on the Cavaliers in the closeout game. The Argentinian soccer superstar Messi, who plays at the club level for Inter Miami of Major League Soccer (MLS), suffered a big injury scare on Sunday night. During Miami’s game against the Philadelphia Union at Nu Stadium in Miami, Fla., Messi asked to subbed off in the 73rd minute after taking a free kick.

On Monday, Inter Miami shared an update on Messi’s status. The team said that Messi, after undergoing further medical testing, had been diagnosed with “an overload associated with muscle fatigue in his left hamstring.”

Leading soccer reporter Fabrizio Romano added that Messi suffered “no serious injury” during the match and is set to be available for Argentina at the World Cup.

The soon-to-be 39-year-old Messi, an eight-time Ballon d’Or winner, had been expected to compete with his native Argentina at this year’s World Cup for a record-extending sixth time. Argentina is set to play in their first friendly against Honduras in less than two weeks and their first group stage match against Algeria in just over three weeks on June 16.

Chris Paul has run out of hoots to give in retirement.

Veteran NBA referee Scott Foster served as the crew chief for Sunday’s Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals between the San Antonio Spurs and the Oklahoma City Thunder. San Antonio went on to win in a 103-82 blowout at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas to even the series at 2-2.

In the middle of the game, the retired 12-time NBA All-Star Paul took a shot at Foster in a post to his Instagram Story. Paul reposted a viral message from a fan page that read, “Scott Foster doesn’t know which team to favor, he’s trying to figure out which team CP3 is rooting for.”

Paul famously feuded with Foster throughout much of his 21-year playing career. The two had numerous on-court run-ins with one another, which led to a perception that Paul’s teams did worse in games that were refereed by Foster (an assertion that was actually backed up by the numbers as well).

After one particularly heated incident with Foster in 2023, Paul even went so far as to tell reporters that their beef was “personal.” Now Paul is taking another swipe at Foster this week, which is line with the 41-year-old point guard’s very petty behavior ever since retiring.

A former standout for the UCLA men’s basketball team will not be pursuing a professional career.

Ex-UCLA point guard Donovan Dent is retiring from the sport at age 22, he told the Albuquerque Journal this week. Dent said that he now plans to return to his home in New Mexico and become a personal trainer for youth basketball players, including hosting clinics.

The 6-foot-2 Dent played his first three collegiate seasons at the University of New Mexico. He was the Mountain West Player of the Year as well as an Honorable Mention All-American as a junior in 2025 after leading the conference with 20.4 points per game.

Dent then decided to transfer to UCLA for his senior year in 2025-26. He was a standout for the Bruins all throughout the season, averaging 13.3 points, 7.6 assists, and 1.7 steals per game.

The former California Mr. Basketball Dent had his most memorable moment at UCLA during a game against No. 10 seed Illinois in February. Dent went coast-to-coast for the game-winning layup, Tyus Edney style, to give the Bruins an upset 95-94 victory as time expired.

Most talent evaluators had pegged Dent as a possible second-round pick in this year’s NBA Draft. But instead, Dent is calling it a career and following in the footsteps of this other 22-year-old athlete who just decided to retire too.

Jaylen Brown is feeling slighted once again.

The Boston Celtics star Brown was officially named this week to the 2025-26 All-NBA Second Team. It was the second such selection of Brown’s professional career after he also made the All-NBA Second Team in 2022-23.

As for the All-NBA First Team, those spots went to Cade Cunningham (Detroit Pistons), Luka Doncic (Los Angeles Lakers), Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (Oklahoma City Thunder), Nikola Jokic (Denver Nuggets), and Victor Wembanyama (San Antonio Spurs). Brown was not happy about missing the cut and let his feelings be known on a Twitch livestream this week.

During the livestream, Brown gave the theory that his snub had something to do with “how I use my platform.” Brown even added that he was “not the most liked player” in the media and among fans.

Of course, there is probably a far less conspiratorial reason behind Brown’s snub — the sheer volume of talent on the All-NBA First Team. Brown did average a monster 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game for the Celtics this season, which were all career highs across the board. But he did not lead his team to the No. 1 seed in the East like Cunningham did, he did not lead the league in points per game like Doncic did, he did not lead his team to the best record in the NBA like Gilgeous-Alexander did, he did not average a triple-double like Jokic did, and he did not have the generational defensive impact that Wembanyama did.

Still, Brown clearly feels that he is being victimized by the public at large. After the Celtics were eliminated from the playoffs earlier this month, Brown even crashed out over the referees supposedly being biased against him.

The Los Angeles Lakers might be going for another player from Luka Doncic’s draft class.

Portland Trail Blazers center Robert Williams III is gaining “buzz” as a potential target for the Lakers this offseason, ESPN’s Bobby Marks reported this week during an appearance on “Sedano & Kap.” Marks also noted that Williams could be in line to receive a contract in the range of $12 million-$13 million per year this offseason.

Williams, 28, is undersized at 6-foot-9 but is known for his athleticism and strong defensive instincts, particularly as a rim protector. He was an All-Defensive selection with the Boston Celtics in 2022 and was a strong per-minute contributor for the Blazers this season, averaging 6.7 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks in just 17.1 minutes per game off the bench.

But a major issue with Williams is his health. He has only played in 85 total games over the last three seasons, which will likely cap Williams’ market as he hits unrestricted free agency this summer.

As for the Lakers, they rotated Deandre Ayton and Jaxson Hayes at the center position this season. However, that duo proved to be largely inconsistent, and we recently learned that the unpopular Ayton could potentially be moving onto greener pastures this offseason.

With his leaping ability, Williams is an ideal lob partner for the Lakers superstar Doncic and also has what it takes to potentially anchor the Lakers’ defense down low. That said, the Lakers could also turn to the trade market in an attempt to upgrade their frontcourt over the next several weeks.

The defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder could be making another power move.

Oklahoma City may try to trade up into the top four of this year’s NBA Draft and pursue ex-Duke star Cameron Boozer, according to a report Monday by Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints. Siegel notes that the Thunder could potentially use their No. 12 and No. 17 picks in the 2026 draft (along with other assets) in order to trade up.

Boozer, 18, is not expected to last beyond the top four of next month’s draft. The National College Player of the Year in 2026, Boozer averaged a stout 22.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game for Duke last season.

The son of former All-Star Carlos Boozer, Cameron is regarded as perhaps the most NBA-ready prospect in this year’s class. Though he lacks the upside of an AJ Dybantsa or a Darryn Peterson and also came under fire during the NCAA Tournament for his poor defense, Boozer will be ready to make an impact from Day 1 in the league.

As for the Thunder, who are currently tied 2-2 with the San Antonio Spurs in the Western Conference FInals, they are locked into their core trio of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Jalen Williams, and Chet Holmgren through at least 2030. But Luguentz Dort and Isaiah Hartenstein have team options for next season, and Oklahoma City might have to part with one or both of those players in order to avoid the second apron of the luxury tax.

Building through the draft though will allow the Thunder to replace some of their role players with completely cost-controlled young talent. It remains to be seen however if the 6-foot-9 Boozer will be their primary target or if OKC can find a better fit for their dynasty-ready core instead.

Rumors have swirled lately about the College Football Playoff expanding to a 24-team field.

With the SEC spring meetings set to take place in Miramar Beach, Fla., conference commissioner Greg Sankey addressed those discussions, but he doesn’t see anything coming to a decision soon.

“I don’t anticipate any decisions on the College Football Playoff, just so you’re clear. We’ll have an informed discussion,” Sankey said, via Nicole Auerbach of NBC Sports.

Sankey even said, “If you could over-hype a spring meeting, I think that successfully happened.”

According to Brett McMurphy of On3, the SEC is hoping for a 16-team field with each of the Big Ten, Big 12 and ACC expressing interest in a 24-team playoff field.

On the other hand, the expansion conversations have drawn backlash, including Miami Hurricanes coach Mario Cristobal pushing back on the 24-team idea.

“I’m not for the 24 team thing, that’s a lot. Why play a regular season then? And I’m certainly not for automatic bids,” Cristobal said.

For now, it sure doesn’t sound like the SEC is going to discuss this in much detail, at least right now, although a change could be coming at some point in the future.

Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Jacob Misiorowski is firmly in the National League Cy Young race, and his latest start proved it even more.

On Memorial Day, Misiorowski went seven innings, allowing just two hits and one run while striking out 12 batters to take the MLB lead in that category.

In the process, Misiorowski set all kinds of records in the Brewers’ 5-1 win over the St. Louis Cardinals at American Family Field in Milwaukee, Wisc.

The Misiorowski threw 57 pitches at 100+ MPH, passing the mark of 47 previously held by Cincinnati Reds hurler Hunter Greene.

On Sunday, Colton Cowser hit a walk-off home run to give the Baltimore Orioles a 5-3 win over the Detroit Tigers at Oriole Park in Baltimore, Md, in Game 1 of the doubleheader.

On Memorial Day, Cowser hit another walk-off home run, this time giving the Orioles a 9-7 win over the Tampa Bay Rays in 13 innings.

The Orioles scored two runs to tie it before Cowser’s blast ended the game.

While Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo is going to be at the forefront of trade conversations, another big name that could be moved is Los Angeles Clippers forward Kawhi Leonard.

Several teams reportedly expressed interest in Leonard at the deadline, and he has already been linked to the Miami Heat and Golden State Warriors.

Now, a new team has entered the conversation: The Detroit Pistons, according to Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints.

“One of the teams expected to inquire about Leonard’s availability, outside of those already mentioned as suitors from the trade deadline in February, is the Detroit Pistons, sources said,” Siegel wrote in his latest NBA mock draft.

The Clippers received “multiple” trade offers at the latest deadline, and it seems those talks could pick up again, leading to the NBA Draft.

The Pistons finished as the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference, but they lost to the Cleveland Cavaliers in seven games in the Eastern Conference Semifinals.

The Pistons’ biggest question this offseason is whether or not to give big man Jalen Duren a new deal, although Detroit’s GM sure made it sound like the team plans to get a deal done.

As far as Leonard goes, the Clippers have to decide whether to trade him or keep him for another year, but there should be plenty of calls coming to LA about the two-time Finals MVP.

The New York Knicks seemingly wanted to send a message to the Cleveland Cavaliers in how they arrived for Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals on Monday.

Knicks players, including Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart, arrived at Rocket Arena in Cleveland, Oh. for Monday’s game dressed in black. Most interpreted it as the Knicks sending a message that they were going to the Cavs’ funeral and intend to finish off the series Monday night.

Wearing black to a game is a popular way for teams to show how serious they are about burying their opponents. The Knicks have even done it before, though it was a previous iteration of the team and did not go well for them.

On the other hand, the Knicks appear well-positioned to finish the series. At this point, the Cavs sound like they’ve been reduced to making lame excuses for their performances. New York is in total command of the series, and they would probably do well to get it done with as early as possible so they can rest before the NBA Finals.

Bryce Harper may have shown a bit too much of himself on social media, because the world will never let him live down how he goes about brushing his teeth.

Harper did a livestream Monday where he showed off his morning routine. One particular part went viral, however: Harper applying his toothpaste by putting the tube directly into his mouth.

Harper is, admittedly, not shy about trying unique things. The way he applies his toothpaste is ultimately harmless, but you can bet some opposing fans might make something of it, be it on social media or elsewhere.

There is no real evidence that the Boston Celtics are looking to trade Jaylen Brown, but they will have plenty of interest if they do listen to offers.

The Atlanta Hawks, Houston Rockets, and Portland Trail Blazers are all thought to have “legitimate trade interest” in Brown, according to Marc Stein of The Stein Line. Stein notes that these teams could be worth watching if it becomes necessary for the Milwaukee Bucks to bring in a third team as part of a Giannis Antetokounmpo trade.

The Celtics are seen as one of the teams Antetokounmpo would be seriously interested in playing for. In order to bring him in, they might need to deal Brown. By bringing in a third team, there would be a taker for Brown and the Bucks could potentially get a huge haul of draft picks in return.

Antetokounmpo is thought to be one of the few players the Celtics might actually break up their core to acquire. Brown has proven he can lead a playoff team, having averaged 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game last season with Jayson Tatum injured for the majority of it.

Another team has popped up in trade rumors for Brown as well. He will likely be the source of speculation until Antetokounmpo is dealt, be it to the Celtics or elsewhere.

Former Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Wander Franco has been sentenced after being alleged to have sexually exploited a minor.

Franco was found guilty of sexual and psychological exploitation of a minor stemming from his relationship with a 14-year-old girl. He will, however, avoid a prison sentence.

The victim’s mother will receive a 10-year prison sentence for money laundering.

Franco had previously been found guilty of the crime and was given a suspended two-year prison sentence. Prosecutors had sought to imprison him for five years in the case.

Charges against Franco first surfaced in August 2023, at which point the Rays placed him on administrative leave. He has not played since and is on the league’s restricted list. At the time of his arrest, he was in the early parts of an 11-year, $182 million contract with the Rays that he had signed in 2021. He has not been receiving payments since July 2024.

The most recent information about Franco indicated that he was admitted to a mental health facility last September at the request of his family.

Aaron Rodgers immediately revealed after rejoining the Pittsburgh Steelers that he intends to retire after the upcoming NFL season, and there may have been a reason behind that.

In a recent appearance on “The Rich Eisen Show,” NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero suggested that Rodgers put that out there as a message to his teammates. Rodgers wants to convey that his only focus is on winning, and they should get on board with that.

“Aaron Rodgers never says anything accidentally,” Pelissero said. “Everything that he says has a reason behind it. Which leads me to believe, it’s certainly possible this is Aaron Rodgers’ last year. … It makes sense for him to deliver this message right now.

“Aaron Rodgers has spoken many times in the past about the value of older players and when you’re going into a final year and you feel like this is it, you’ve got the motivation. For him, that’s certainly the way that he’s going into this. By saying this is it, this also puts the rest of that locker room on notice. I need everything out of all of you because this is it.”

Rodgers did, in fact, reveal his intentions right away in his initial press conference. It certainly makes sense if it was intended to set expectations, as he has never spoken this definitively about retirement before.

Rodgers started 16 games for the Steelers last season, throwing for 3,322 yards and 24 touchdowns. He turns 43 in December and has flirted with retirement on and off for four years now.

Two teams appear to have the best chance of acquiring Giannis Antetokounmpo if the Milwaukee Bucks star has his way.

The Boston Celtics and Miami Heat are thought to be the two teams Antetokounmpo is most intrigued by, according to Marc Stein of The Stein Line. The Dallas Mavericks are also mentioned as a possible dark horse suitor.

Antetokounmpo is believed to want to stay in the East and play for a title contender. The Celtics certainly tick both boxes, and the Heat would immediately become a contender were they to land the star forward. Miami is known to have strong interest, though it will still depend at least somewhat on whether they could match up with the Bucks on a deal.

Antetokounmpo appears increasingly likely to be traded at some point before the NBA Draft next month. While he does not have a no-trade clause in his contract, he is entering the final guaranteed year of his deal, so any team trading for him would want to be sure he is willing to commit to them long-term. That allows him plenty of leverage over choosing his ultimate destination.

There are plenty of other teams interested in Antetokounmpo. Ultimately, though, there are only a few teams that would garner both the interest of Antetokounmpo and have the assets to pull off a deal.

Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Fernando Mendoza is not thrilled about having to miss OTAs in order to attend the NFLPA Rookie Premiere.

The annual Rookie Premiere connects the new class of NFL rookies with potential sponsors, and Mendoza was among those in attendance for the event, which took place earlier this month. He confessed, however, that he would rather not have been there.

“I’m going to be completely honest with you. I’d rather be practicing right now and I was really upset about actually having to miss practice for this,” Mendoza told Gilberto Manzano of SI. “Although it’s great … it’s still been a great moment to where it was mandatory I be here. I’m not going to feel sorry for myself and feel wishy-washy. I’m going to have a smile on my face and make the most of that present moment.”

Mendoza moping and begrudgingly turning this event into a positive is pretty perfectly on-brand. This is, after all, someone who skipped a White House visit just because he did not want to miss a single day of practice.

The No. 1 overall pick has made it very clear that he feels the need to prove himself at the NFL level, even though the Raiders have essentially anointed him as the future of the franchise. He may not start immediately, but if he does not, it will not be because he did not put enough work in.

Mendoza did, in fact, make the best of the situation, and made a fan’s day while there. Missing practice was not a total loss, at least.

Former San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich still hovers around the organization, and he apparently made his presence known following the team’s loss in Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals.

Spurs guard De’Aaron Fox revealed that Popovich actually went to the locker room following San Antonio’s 123-108 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Friday and had words for the players.

“Pop’s been around throughout the course of the season, but that was the first time he walked into the locker room and was like, ‘Nah, that’s BS. That’s not how we play basketball,'” Fox told NBC’s postgame show. “Obviously he had some choice words for us. That was the first time all season he came into the locker room right after a game and told us how he felt. Everybody felt that.”

The former coach making unscheduled appearances in the locker room, however, is clearly rare, and it evidently made an impression on Spurs players. They won Game 4 in dominant fashion, 103-82, to even the series at 2 games a piece.

Azzi Fudd finally had her breakout game in the WNBA, and she did so by breaking a record previously held by her Dallas Wings teammate, Paige Bueckers.

Fudd, the No. 1 overall pick at the 2026 WNBA Draft, led the Wings to a 91-76 win over the New York Liberty at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. 

She came off the bench and stunned the Liberty with a 24-point performance on 9/15 shooting, including six 3-pointers in 32 minutes of action. It was the most prolific 3-point showing by a Wings rookie in a game.

Bueckers, who tied the franchise record in 2025 after hitting five triples against the Phoenix Mercury, had no problem seeing Fudd break it.

“It was probably only a matter of time before she got going and got hot from the 3-point line,” Bueckers said in a postgame interview, via WNBA on NBC and Peacock. “So, yeah, records are meant to be broken, and I’m happy she got that one.” 

Bueckers was not too shabby herself in the Liberty game, as she fired 24 points on 7/13 shooting with a couple of made baskets from behind the arc in 36 minutes.

Dallas seems like a team on the rise with Bueckers leading the attack and Fudd gaining more confidence each passing game.

The Wings, who won just 10 games in 2025, are now 4-3 through seven games in the 2026 campaign, and they will look to sustain their form on Thursday versus the Las Vegas Aces at College Park Center in Arlington, Texas.

The Oklahoma City Thunder were not the only ones who had a rough night in San Antonio on Sunday.

During a break in Game 3 of the 2026 Western Conference Finals between the Thunder and the San Antonio Spurs at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas,  Spurs’ mascot “The Coyote” and an imposter of Oklahoma’s mascot “Bison” put on some theatrics on the court. The fake Bison was made to be a villain who viciously attacked The Coyote. 

But the faux OKC mascot later met his match when “The World’s Strongest Man” and former WWE superstar Mark Henry entered the scene with a steel chair. 

Henry immediately demolished Biston using the steel chair and gave it a strong kick for good measure before celebrating with The Coyote.

The biggest blow of the evening, however, was from the Spurs, who dominated Thunder from start to finish.

Victor Wembanyama took it upon himself to deliver the goods for his team, as he finished with a game-high 33 points on 11/22 shooting, while also grabbing 8 rebounds to lead San Antonio to a 103-82 win.

With that victory, the Spurs tied the series at 2-2 and guaranteed themselves at least one more game in San Antonio.

Houston Astros rookies might have seen this one brewing.

During Houston’s recent trip to the Windy City for a series against the Chicago Cubs, the Astros gave their rookies an assignment that was completely unrelated to baseball, and it was getting the team its coffee fix. ‘It was a simple task, but one that had to be completed while still in full Astros threads.

Here is the video showing Astros rookies completing the side quest, from taking the orders, to placing them at Starbucks, to delivering them back to the locker room.

It was a wholesome bonding activity for the Astros youngsters, who also had to deal with a light drizzle while carrying out their coffee mission.

Houston surely deserves cups of coffee — and more — with the way it performed against the Cubs in the series at Wrigley Field in Chicago, Ill. The Astros completed a sweep of the Cubs on Sunday with an 8-5 victory, thanks in large part to their offense. 

Jake Meyers and Nick Allen had solo shots in the second and third innings, respectively, before Christian Walker launched a three-run homer in the fifth inning, as the Astros improved to 23-31.

Up next for Houston is a four-game series against the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, that begins Monday.

Bam Adebayo had to clear the air right away after he went viral with his girlfriend, A’ja Wilson, during an NHL playoff game.

The Miami Heat star was with Wilson during Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals series between the Vegas Golden Knights and the Colorado Avalanche on Sunday at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nev. Naturally, the couple, wearing matching Golden Knights jerseys, got a ton of attention.

Not everyone was happy to see Adebayo having such a great time in the game, though.

The Florida Panthers, for one, felt slighted by Adebayo showing support for a different team. As part of the Florida sports brotherhood,  Adebayo had been a visitor to Panthers games in the past, so it stung the Panthers to see him wear Golden Knights colors.

After the game, Adebayo assured the Panthers that he still pledges his full allegiance to Florida hockey.

“So we just went to a nice game. I just want everybody to know, [I’m still a supporter of the Panthers].  I just couldn’t wear it in there because I was with somebody, but y’all know what it is,” the three-time NBA All-Star said, while showing a Panthers jersey.

That “somebody” could very well be Wilson, who is unsurprisingly backing the Golden Knights, as she plays for the Las Vegas Aces in the WNBA.

It will be interesting to see if Adebayo will attend another Golden Knights game with Wilson, especially if Vegas makes it to the Stanley Cup Final.

Victor Wembanyama was all business in Game 4 of the 2026 Western Conference Finals.

Perhaps nothing encapsulated that mindset of the San Antonio Spurs star big man more than what he told a reporter who asked him after the game about his viral buzzer-beating 3-point basket from halfcourt to punctuate the first half against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

“I was thinking shoot to score,” Wembanyama said, via SportsCenter. “I wasn’t messing around at halftime.”

The towering San Antonio center was deliberate with his actions in Game 4, as he helped the Spurs avoid falling down a 3-1 series hole. He led all scorers in the game with 33 points on 11/22 shooting, including a 3/7 line from behind the arc. Wembanyama added 8 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 blocks and 2 steals in 31 minutes.

For all the stats he racked up in the game, it’s still his insane shot from well beyond even Stephen Curry’s usual range that will be talked about for days. It was more than just three points added to the Spurs’ total; it was a shot that left the Thunder more demoralized after a dominant first half by San Antonio.

But the Spurs are going to need more from Wembanyama if they are to dethrone Oklahoma City and advance to the NBA Finals.

So far in the Thunder series, Wembanyama is averaging 19.5 points on 52.6% shooting, 13.3 rebounds and 3.0 blocks per game.

It just keeps on getting worse for Nathan MacKinnon and the Colorado Avalanche.

The Avs find themselves in a deeper hole after three games in their West Finals series against the Vegas Golden Knights. They are down 3-0 after melting down in a 5-3 loss in Game 3 on Sunday at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Worse, they may have to play the next game without their best player after MacKinnon got hurt in the second period of Game 3. MacKinnon went down in pain after he took a puck to the knee from Golden Knights star Shea Theodore. 

He was taken off the ice but returned later in the frame to play a couple more shifts. Even while in seemingly excruciating pain, the former Hart Memorial Trophy winner saw action in the third period.

The pain alone was not enough for MacKinnon to call it a night. In the eyes of Colorado goalie Scott Wedgewood, it would take more than that to make him leave a game.

“You might have to kill [MacKinnon] to get him off the ice,” Wedgewood said of MacKinnon during a postgame interview with reporters, via DNVR Avalanche.

“Just kind of the person he is and the competitor he is. Obviously proves that every time he’s on the ice, he wants to win more than anybody.”

It remains uncertain whether MacKinnon will be able to give it a go for Game 4 on Tuesday. But given what’s at stake, the 2025-26 Rocket Richard Trophy winner can be expected to push to be available as much as possible.

MacKinnon is leading the Avs in the 2026 playoffs with 15 points on 7 goals and 8 assists through 12 games.

San Antonio Spurs rookie Carter Bryant got emotional on Sunday after committing a mistake in Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals.

Bryant got a stern talking-to from head coach Mitch Johnson after he charged into Oklahoma City Thunder big man Jaylin Williams for a turnover with the Spurs leading 72-47 in the third quarter. The time and score didn’t matter to Johnson, who chastised the youngster on the sidelines of Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas.

The 20-year-old looked like he was about to break down in tears during a later timeout. Victor Wembanyama had to go into full big brother mode to comfort him.

Williams is the most effective charge drawer in the NBA. He finished top-5 during the regular season with 17 despite coming off the bench. Johnson has surely drilled into his team not to fall for Williams’ tactics, which Bryant failed to abide by on his fastbreak drive.

Bryant was a team-worst -10 in the Spurs’ 103-84 victory in Game 4. He went scoreless with a turnover and four fouls across seven minutes of action.

Bryant has had his defensive standout moments in the Western Conference Finals thus far. But he’s been recognized more for his off-court moments, such as when he was spotted using a public bathroom mid-game.
