For Real Life.”, and last years “Binky Dad”, Kia has a rich history of delivering memorable commercials spanning over a decade.

Starting off with last years 2023 Commercial,

2023: “Binky Dad”

A couple on a date approaches a valet stand, where they encounter Morpheus from “The Matrix,” played by Laurence Fishburne. Opting for the red key, the couple finds themselves behind the wheel of a Kia K900 luxury sedan, where the man is visibly impressed. Morpheus makes a surprise return in the backseat, declaring that this is what luxury sounds like as he belts out into song, serenading the couple and leaving a trail of awe as they drive off.

2013: “Space Babies”
While traveling in the all new 2014 Kia Sorento, a family faces an awkward moment when the child asks the classic question, “Where do babies come from?” Caught off guard, the dad comes up with an imaginary tale about “Babylandia”, a planet where all babies, regardless of species, come from. The child challenges the tale, citing what a friend says, but is promptly cut off by the voice control feature of the 2014 Kia Sorento, conveniently redirecting the conversation by playing a song and avoiding a potentially more awkward confrontation.

2013: “Hotbot”
In this second Kia ad during Super Bowl XLVII, we’re taken to a press event showcasing the all-new Kia Forte. Where one car enthusiast gets a bit too close for comfort for one of the futuristic robot models, portrayed by former Miss USA Alyssa Campanella. Ignoring personal boundaries, the enthusiast smears his hands along the car, leaving fingerprints, and even presses his hands and face against the car window for a closer look, inadvertently dirtying up the car. “Hot Bot” takes notice, growing increasingly displeased as she delivers the ultimate lesson on him, “respect the tech”. In this iconic Kia ad, the scene unfolds with a sleeping couple visited by the Sandman who sprinkles “sweet dream” powder. The wife dreams of a picturesque scene on a horse with a charming companion, set against a backdrop of a rainbow-filled field. However, when the Sandman moves to the husband, he trips which results in an overdose of “sweet dream” powder. The husband’s dream transforms into an exhilarating Kia Optima track experience, featuring supermodel Adriana Lima, a Motley Crue concert, cheering bikini-wearing women, a bull rider on a rhino, and lumberjacks sawing a massive sandwich. Along the journey, he encounters Chuck Liddell before crashing into his wife’s dream. As the dream powder settles, he crashes his wife’s dream, where he catches her from the horse, and they drive off together in the Kia Optima.

2011: “One Wild Ride”
In this Kia ad an epic ride ensues for this Kia Optima. After being stolen by a police officer, a man in a helicopter deploys a giant missile towards him and is suction cupped away, the officer jumps out of the car hurling into the ocean. Now in the hands of the man in the helicopter, he is stopped by Poseidon the water god where he snatches the Kia away. But then an alien abducts the car into a giant spacecraft and darts back to their home planet. One of the aliens takes the Optima out for a joyride when a mysterious wormhole appears in the sky and the car is transported through to an ancient mesoamerican society. The ruler of the people had summoned the car and the spectators all began to cheer.

Different Types of Electric Vehicles

The most popular terms for electric cars are EV, HEV, and PHEV. EV is a shortened version of ‘Electric Vehicle’ and is sometimes used as a blanket term for battery-powered, plug-in and hybrid vehicles.

A BEV, or commonly just EV, is a battery-powered car run solely on eclectic power, so there’s no need for gasoline, and there are no tailpipe emissions

An HEV is a hybrid electric vehicle that runs on both gasoline and battery power. Energy from the battery is used to supplement the engine, so less gas is needed to run the vehicle.

A PHEV is a plug-in hybrid vehicle with a gasoline engine that plugs in to charge the battery. Opposite to the HEV, the gasoline engine supplements the battery.

Types of Charging

EVs have three levels of charging; Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3, which increase in speed and charge as the levels increase. Level 1 and 2 can be accessed in your home, while Level 3 charging is still only available at public charging stations.

Level 1 charging is the most basic level of charging and can be plugged in with a standard 120-Volt outlet. This type of charging takes the longest, so it’s rarely preferred but can do if a driver is in a pinch.

Level 2 charging uses 240 volts of power and is the most popular charging type. Similarly to appliances, this requires an external charging device that plugs into the outlet.

Level 3 charging, or a DC fast charger, is the fastest charging option available. At the moment, this is only available with public charging stations.

Range of EV models

The range is very important when considering an EV. Carefully consider your typical daily commute, but also consider longer trips you might want to take.

The range for EVs vary model to model, Kia’s EV6 has an impressive range of 310 miles and can get up to 117 MPGe or miles per gallon equivalent, while other models range from 84 MPGe to 113 MPGe.

With the growing popularity of EVs in the U.S., the number of charging stations is growing by the day. The Department of Energy’s map show at least 50,000 charging stations across the country.

Kia’s leading the charge in EV accessibility

Kia has nine electric models; the EV6, Niro EV, Niro Plug-in Hybrid, Sorento Hybrid, Sorento Plug-in Hybrid, Sportage Hybrid, Sportage Plug-in Hybrid, and the all-new EV9. Dozens of awards have been received in 2023 alone, just between these nine models.

Kia’s EV6 is in Kelly Blue Book’s top 5 fastest charging cars, partly due to its 800-volt architecture. The J.D Power 2023 APEAL Awards ranked the EV6 as the Most Appealing Compact SUV.

Kia recently announced their Plan S, which plans to offer 11 fully electric vehicles and reach 6.6% of global EV sales by the year 2025. The EV9 is set to release in the last quarter of 2023, and we can expect more news within the year.

Benefits of Driving an EVs

Less maintenance is needed to keep EVs running since fully electric vehicles don’t need oil changes or other fluids. Cap HPI claims that “EVs cost, on average, 23 percent less to run than gas vehicles over a three-year period.” Although EVs require less maintenance, an annual check-up is still recommended for EVs to check the battery, electrical motor, and other electronics.

EVs and Hybrid vehicles have lower fueling consumption and costs than regular gas vehicles, and an average battery life of an Electric car is between 10 to 20 years. And since EVs have an electric motor, it allows EVs to have almost instantaneous acceleration.

Certain Kia EV models come with 4,000 miles of free charging credits with the Electrify America network. Currently, the EV6 and Niro EV are eligible for these credits, but check in regularly for any updates!
