They met about 7 years ago in Berkeley, CA.  They were both part of Amnesty International, a human rights activism group.  Mike grew up outside of Boston and Sachini grew up in Southern California, but both lived in the Bay Area for a few years when they met.  Now they are loving living in Baltimore, where they both do public health work. Since they are pretty new to Baltimore, their wedding was a really big reunion bringing together all of the friends from all over the country.  They tried hard to really blend Sri Lankan, American, Jewish and Buddhist traditions when they wrote their ceremony.  Looking back, they both felt the day honored their heritages while capturing their relationship really well and was a ton of fun!

Anyway, on the wedding day, things seemed to start off well. The traffic wasn’t bad leaving from the Reston, VA area despite the 2012 G8 Summit being held the same day at Camp David about 10 miles from the wedding venue. However, when I got to this one stretch that was going to take me to a state park near ThorpeWood, police basically blocked off an intersection. I probably spent almost half an half hour waiting before having to reruote. Before I left the scene, I saw police crowding around a parked white van on the side of the road. I figured it was identified as a threat to the Summit.  After the detour, I was able to get to the destination without any further issues.

Politics brought Caroline and Pete together in 2008 when they were both working on the presidential campaign that year. They quickly decided that they enjoyed spending time with each other much more than electing politicians and have been together ever since. After surviving multiple jobs, injuries, and cross country moves- they managed to bring together family and friends from near and far to celebrate when they were married on a sunny spring day in Caroline’s native Maryland.

Both Erica and Sherwin live in New York but grew up locally together. In fact, their families have known each other for years. So this wedding was pretty much a celebration for one big family.

I got a chance to photograph the event for Summit team documenting the week from various perspectives. The event had quite a number of high profile tech celebrities/speakers including Arianna Huffington, the President & Editor-in-Chief of The Huffington Post, and Biz Stone, Co-Founder of Twitter. The Summit Bash party on the first night featured a bunch of entertainment including a concert performed by Foster the People. Friday is a tradition, The Ski day. All attendees are invited to hit the slopes at one of the nearby resorts (this year at the Canyons). Adobe organized door-to-door transportation from the hotel to the resort. It’s definitely a fun week to work/play hard.

The most famous thing about Thailand is probably the food. When somebody finds out that I’m from Thailand, they always tell me that they love Thai food. Yes, I love Thai food too. This dish below is sticky rice and grilled pork. I had it a few times for breakfast when I was there this time. It’s definitely not a common breakfast diet but for some reason I felt that it gave me an awesome energy boost.

Here is a view from the condo we stayed at in Bangkok. It’s located in Lat Phrao near Central Plaza. I’d say it’s right at the border of the Bangkok inner city. It may be difficult to spot in this picture, but if you look closely the roads are almost empty. That’s because the outer city is still flooded making the traffic on normal roads very light. Most people that still had to go into the city for work used elevated expressways.

These two photos below were taken from an elevated expressway about 10 minutes north of the condo. The flooding was so bad that people who couldn’t park their cars at home parked them on expressways. Unlucky some got theirs ruined because of traffic accidents. Don Muang Airport (DMK) serving domestic flights had to halt operation because planes were grounded and the runways were unusable.

We didn’t stay in Bangkok the hold time. We got a chance to visit Sisaket (my second visit). While in Sisaket, we did a day trip to Ubon Ratchathani stopping at Hat Khu Duea (หาดคูเดื่อ), where we had lunch on a floating raft, and hiking through Pha Taem (ผาแต้ม). The hike I did was close to two miles but doing it with flip-flops made it 5 times more difficult. I also had to do it really fast because it was close baby’s nap time.

She picked Georgetown as the engagement shoot location because it’s one of favorite places in DC. I was initially worried because it was raining earlier in the day. However, just an hour before our meeting time, the storm system had moved out of the Georgetown area giving plenty of sun light (probably too much) for the rest of the shoot.
