College sweethearts

Cantara and Michael met when they were 16. For her, it was an instant crush. Michael, however, had forgotten her name and had to read her ID card! They started spending time together in class and at break times and Michael soon asked her out. That was 12 years ago and they have been together ever since. Michael is the fun, loud, sociable one, Cantara is the quiet, calm, responsible one. Together they make a great team. Michael proposed to her on 11th March 2017 and we did the shoot on the same day a year later, which Cantara realised only after the shoot. How sweet! Since they grew up in this South East area, it was easy to pick a location for their special day. And a plus for me because I haven’t had a shoot here before. Happy couple = happy photographer.

On their date nights they like to go out for dinner followed by something fun, like going to Swingers mini-golf, or Bounce to play ping pong. On regular Saturdays they love taking it in turns to cook a yummy dinner and snuggle up on the sofa to watch TV or a good film together.

Smile, baby smile!

Whenever I photograph a wedding or an event, guests come and tell me how much they like me smiling all the time. You know when you are among nice people, this just comes naturally from the heart. When you love what you do, happy people just make you smile even more. Surrounding myself with family members who share so much love with each other is something that absolutely catches my heart. I’m all in for those e m o t i o n s. And this is what happened when I met Cantara and Michael for the first time. During our shoot Michael was so smiley that I think he infected even the dogs running around in the park. So much love and pure emotions expressed in their gallery. Well, this happens when you let your heart direct the shoot.

One of my favourite times to photograph couples is early morning, most probably on a Sunday shortly after sunrise. Central London looks so peaceful, we can only hear the birds chirping and the sky looks like melting vanilla-orange frosting. The warm rays of sunshine stroking our face add some extra sparkle to the photos too.

Rita and Gabor met in their first workplace in a pizzeria. It was a very exciting time for her since she moved to London in that summer. If you live far from your home country, you know how amazing it feels when you shortly find someone to click with. On their perfect Saturday they love going on adventurous trips, spending loads of time out in nature, road tripping in the countryside and to the sea. All things fun and romantic. Just look at her outfit! Sweet as marshmallow!

As with most of my couples, London has a special place in their hearts too. Escaping from the capital’s busy streets, exploring the hidden gems and mews, walking along the canal are all wonderful ways to share some more intimate time together. After an adventurous engagement in Tenerife, they started planning their wedding in Hungary and thought it would be fun to capture some memories in London as well.

Holland Park and the Japanese Kyoto Gardens are absolutely beautiful this time of the day (and year). Warm sunshine is peeking through the green leaves. Early risers enjoy their morning yoga session. The entire park seems just so peaceful that you wish it would last forever.

I’m thankful for this beautiful morning we spent together. Thankful for all the smiles they shared with me.

Every time I scrolled through Marietta’s first gallery I was wondering how much the girls must have grown since I haven’t seen any new photos of them. Anna was already a little lady with a wonderful personality. I will never forget how passionately she sang the song ‘Mamma Mia’ over and over again. 2 years later Berta joined and I wouldn’t be surprised if they sang duets together in the near future.

I have a confession to make. I think I’m never too old to play with Lego or some nice colorful play dough. Give me a set and I’ll get busy with the kids for hours. My friends with kids can totally agree with this. The girls enjoyed their pretty (and delicious) pink cake before heading out to the park. They live near the Epsom Downs Racecourse where they love having a picnic, running after dogs and playing till you can’t move any more. Love, love, love the dynamics of these shoots.

There’s so much story in every. single. photo. And that’s what life is really about. Your experience is what makes you who you are. Make it uniquely wonderful.

When the first wisteria photos started to appear on Instagram, I was getting so excited like a sweet child jumping up and down on her bed. With a little help from Google and street view I came up with a walking route plan that shows where to find wisteria in London. Mostly in Chelsea and Kensington now, but I’m planning to update this list with other locations too. As much as I love getting lost in central London without any planned route, I knew this wisteria hunting would have been very time consuming and I wasn’t sure how much of these pretties I could find in a few hours of walk.

This last Saturday I woke up with such big excitement, grabbed my cam and headed to central London. I wasn’t quite sure if I can find wisteria at all these pinned locations, but being hopeful and positive I thought if I could find at least one, I would be a happy girl! The best thing with these routes is that I can always go off track and explore new streets. So if you scroll to the end of this post (but oh, not so quickly!), you can find links to my route and screenshots of Google maps to have a look at where I was wandering in Wisteria Land.

There’s so much history behind every wall and wisteria curtain. Some of these houses are more than a hundred years old and so is the wisteria crawling on the walls. It’s very easy to spot them from far when they are in full bloom. Many generations grow up smelling these beauties from their windows or balconies. I felt like I stepped into Heaven and I never wanna return!

There were a couple spots where other Instagrammers and bloggers were queuing. This street below is one of the most photographed hidden gems of London. I was here in autumn enjoying the colorful leaves on the opposite side of this mews, too.

The only thing I missed during my walk is that none of the owners showed up around these houses. First I was a bit afraid to take photos of houses and cars in London, but ever since a lovely old lady invited me in for a chat and drink, all my fear was gone. If you are ever caught gramming (I am simetimes), I would just advise you to say a big, big, BIG compliment on these beautiful homes, with your biggest smile and don’t be afraid to share your enthusiasm with the owners. I think they are very happy living in these nice houses, and especially the older owners love talking about the history of the house. Sometimes I even get flowers from their gardens. These are private properties, but they are nice if you are nice. Stop being annoyed that you were caught and pretend you have a poker face. Communication can make wonders.

This last house was my top favorite of all. My jaw dropped like a hundred times… I died like a million times in this purple heaven… And never wanted to leave. I just can’t comprehend how something so simple can be so pure and beautiful. Giving me so much joy and happiness. I imagined living here and opening the windows every morning, letting this amazing smell spread around my home. And then I remembered to enjoy this very moment as long as it lasts, just a couple more minutes. And then it was time to go back home. Super tired, yet full of happiness and my  s o u l  refreshed.

Sometimes you meet people and it feels like you immediately click after the first email. Those type of people who understand your passion, your vision, your art that comes from your heart. Two beautiful souls I’m so grateful to have crossed path with. They are Jasmine and Rey.

Looking at the photo Jasmine attached to her email, I felt such strong connection between them and was even thinking they must be high school sweethearts. You know when you are in love, you know within a second how to melt his heart with just the way you look at each other. “We are both athletes and very competitive people and I think that is one of the reasons we click so well.”

You don’t need a special occasion for having your photos taken. Little moments are enough reason to celebrate life with the people you love. To capture the most precious times you  s h a r e  with each other. Jasmine and Rey both like modelling but they have never done a shoot together. So it was time for some fun in the city. And a little Starbucks adventure to warm ourselves up on this chilly winter afternoon.

Sara’s parents, Rehana & Mashkoor celebrated their 40th ruby wedding anniversary in one of the world’s most iconic luxury hotels, The Dorchester in Mayfair, central London. It was a day full of love, sharing memories, mouth-wateringly delicious food and good music. The main color was of course the red that appeared in the dresses and flower decoration as well. It was designed by the always so wonderful Becki Prichard from Floco Flower Company. We started the evening with some family portraits before the guests arrived. The reception room is one of the few rooms in the hotel that retains the exact design of the original 1931 launch of The Dorchester. I really like how traditional the oak paneled walls look like and it proved to be a great background for some photos. When the guests started to come, we took group photos of everybody. I like the excitement on Rehana’s and Mashkoor’s face, it truly is a wonderful day to celebrate.

While waiting for the dinner a Sufi singer, Simon Sylvester and Guru Soundz entertained all of us. One of my favorite moments was when the parents entered the dining room. Their faces on the photos are so charming. I just love capturing these pure emotions. Indian weddings and events are always very special to me. My heart is jumping up and down with excitement already on the day before. Oh wait, right after booking! Not only do I like the glamorous dresses and traditional Indian music, the atmosphere and all the love shared by the families fill my heart with so much warmth as well. Having photographed several different cultures, I think Indians are a lot more family centered compared to many Western ones.

Rehana and Mashkoor has three wonderful children: Sara, Samir and Omar. They talked about how their parents met and got married in India, moved thousands of miles away and started a new family in the UK. Their childhood memories made all of us smile a lot, letting our hearts melt immediately. As we get older many of the memories may fade away, but the most important ones will forever stay with us.

Rehana & Mashkoor, I wish you and your family the happiest life together filled with good health, loads of love and magical moments! Thank you for letting me be a part of your special day!

People you are going to fall head over heels for and be madly inspired by.

First up, I’d like to introduce you a very special dream chaser, Elle Linton. She is a personal trainer and health & fitness blogger based in London. She is also the founder of Borrow My // Blender, an events company specializing in smoothies for PR, brand and fitness events. I think it’s a brilliant business idea she came up with last year and I was curious to know more about her. Since I photograph a couple of different events like baby showers and birthday parties, I thought you would love her, too! A smoothie pop up stand would be a perfect ingredient to your party!

Elle is one of the most charming people I met in my life and has such a bubbly personality! We couldn’t stop laughing during our shoot!  I took the photos in a very stylish cafe and clothes shop, Aida, in East London. The natural looking interior seems to be the perfect background for the photos. We were thinking about moving in, hehe.

So, let’s jump right in, I’m thrilled to introduce you to Elle today!

+ What’s your approach to health and fitness?

I like to mix things up as much as I can. I sometimes find it hard to feel motivated so doing new things helps to keep me on track. I also believe in balance so as much as I’m devoted to being healthy and being fit I enjoy taking a day off from exercise for rest and eating treats!

+ How much is your family an influence on the way you view life, see things?

I think my mum is my biggest influence, although I think we have very different outlooks on life. She really is my sounding board and she helps to give me perspective on various situations. Being born in the Caribbean also has an influence on me! I feel like Caribbean people are straight talking and I definitely have that engrained in me!

+ What’s the story behind your Borrow My Blender business?

Having been blogging for four years now I’ve been to a lot of events. So many health and fitness events I’ve been to have either never catered with food after some crazy workout or offer what I would deem to be an unhealthy choice. So if I figured I would help take the workload out of events for PR’s and brands by doing it for them! The events side of things is my sole focus for the first year but the intention was (and still might be) to offer a rental service for individuals who want to try high end kitchen appliances before they buy them.

+ What does a typical day in your world look like?

I don’t have any such thing as a typical day! I’m currently trying to nail down my perfect morning routine to help me be productive which is mainly water, breakfast, coffee and a workout. Then I catch up on social media alerts from throughout the night before getting stuck into emails, writing and thinking of new ideas. I work from home but I head into central London several times a week to teach classes, personal train, have meetings and go to events.

+ What do you love to do besides keeping fit and blogging?

I love cooking and eating, a lot! My guilty pleasure is catching up on the soaps on TV or binge watching CSI and NCIS!

+ What is your perfect smoothie like? Any ingredients you can’t stand?

For a breakfast smoothie I love to have oats in there somewhere along with a good serving of good fats (like avocado or almond butter) and protein (usually in the form of a protein powder). For a treat, cacao makes a great starting point, it’s my substitute for actual chocolate. When the weather is extra warm, I love to have tropical fruits like pineapple or mango and coconut water for extra hydration!

+ What’s the one kitchen tool you couldn’t live without?

My Vitamix without a doubt! I use it every single day and I’ve yet to have a smoothie as smooth from any other blender. I love using it to make “nice-cream” too which is blended frozen banana that has the consistency of ice cream. In the winter it makes hot soup in under six minutes!

+ What’s your biggest failure ever in the kitchen? Any funny stories?

Hmmmm. There have been a couple… Nothing major luckily! The most recent one had to be when I blended the end of a wooden spoon into my smoothie!! It was so frustrating as I was running late so had to leave the house without having breakfast! I also make it a habit of leaving ingredients out (accidentally) when following recipes!

+ Where do you get your inspiration? Someone who madly lights you up & makes you want to chase down your dreams?

I get my inspiration from everyone whose path I cross with be that through fitness, business or just the daily commute!! Everyone has a great story to tell, you just need to listen, and really actually listen. I’m inspired by all the stories I’m told and stories I read!

+ Can you describe your workout style? Your favorite exercise?

I like to mix it up all the time! At the moment I’m training for L’Etape London Sportive (cycling) in September so I’m trying to get on my bike as much as possible whilst sticking with my regular interval training, running and anything else that really takes my fancy!

+ What’s in your gym kit today?

I love a bright pair of workout leggings. Add to that a supportive yet comfortable sports bra, a stylish water bottle and some cool kicks, then I’m good to go!

+ How do you motivate yourself on those mornings when you just want to stay in bed?

Sometimes I will just stay in bed as it’s important to listen to your body. On the times I make an effort, I tell myself I just have to do 20 minutes and if I’m not enjoying it after that time, I can stop! Usually I’ll feel too good to not add a little extra time on!

+ What three key lessons have you learnt in your entrepreneurial path, which continue to carry you forward?

Networking is key. It’s always much easier to find opportunities if you know people already.

Never stop talking about your business and what you do.

Don’t try to do too much, too quickly. I need to remember I’m only one person so I can’t bring every idea in my head alive all at once!

+ You’re smashing life right now! What’s next?

I never feel like I’m smashing life, I think my biggest downfall is undervaluing what I do and how far I have come! I’m planning on establishing a place for my business in the market in the next year whilst really nailing down our offering and sharing that with the world! I also plan on starting my masters studies with the first modules from the Masters in Business Administration course.

Bonus Question: What ingredients would you bring on a desert island with you? And why? You can only pick three!

1. Himalayan pink salt as it brings the flavour out of any dish.
2. Almond butter for added protein, indulgence and creaminess.
3. Chia seeds to make vegan eggs or turn any liquid into a chia pudding.

In a nutshell:

Right now I feel… excited (and scared, as they’re actually the same emotion) about the future!

I believe in… fate! Everything happens for a reason!

I’ll always remember the day when… I failed my driving test! It probably was my first real taste of failure!

You might not know this, but… I only learnt to swim last year at the age of 30!

I couldn’t live without… almond butter!

Secretly, I wish… that we could somehow live forever!

My heart filled with similar excitement as I was packing my gear for Lola’s big day. Getting to the Chelsea Harbour Hotel, I found myself in a beautifully decorated, enormous lounge full of lights, balloons and sparkle. All ready for her 40th birthday, surrounded with the closest friends! Some coming for this day only all the way from Nigeria! How amazing is this?! Their speeches made her night really special, bringing back all the good memories. Dinner was mouthwateringly delicious and of course there is no cake without fireworks!

The other highlight of the day was the opening dance. Lola surprised everyone with stylish masks and the party began. If you have ever been to the Notting Hill Carnival in London, you can imagine how great this party was. I just wanted to dance with the crowd. Except for the last group dance where I couldn’t really follow the steps. Haha! This performance was totally in their blood and I enjoyed every moment of it. It was amazing to see all the love and happiness spreading all over the room.

Happy birthday, Lola! May all your dreams come true, may your life be filled with loads of love, laughter and good health! Thank you for letting me be a part of your special day!

As soon as I stepped in, Marietta and Akos welcomed me in their cozy home. Shortly after a sweet little girl, Anna, showed up too and we immediately became friends. I’ve never seen a 3 year old cutie pie with such an open and bubbly personality. Moving forward and stepping into a quiet room my heart started melting when I had a look at the family’s newest addition, Berta. She was only 20 days new, looked so tiny and fragile… Tiny eyes, mouth, nose, ears, fingers… tiny everything!

Marietta and Akos booked me for a lifestyle shoot in their home, and since the weather was so lovely, we also went out for a walk and some fun games in the nearest park. I hope you will enjoy this series as much as I do! I’m feeling so blessed to be around such wonderful families!

While I was capturing these precious moments, Anna put on her princess dress, some pretty makeup and her favorite hat… Ready for dancing and singing… Any guess what her favorite tunes are? It’s Mamma Mia!! I watched the movie like a hundred times and the soundtracks were on replay for like forever, so I’m pretty much a big fan too. What this little girl showcased on this afternoon was simply magical! She knows all the lyrics just like the movie stars and her facial expressions were like WOW!!! She is only 3 years old and she totally blew my mind!

In the meantime Berta was sleeping like a tiny bear and having the nicest dreams…

Time for lunch, changing clothes and going back to sleep. Life is great for such young models! Oh just look at her big, beautiful, sparkling eyes! As much as I like photographing babies while asleep, I’m always happy to see their gorgeous eyes, too. So heart melting when looking into Mom’s eyes!

The house was full of noise… I love seeing all these happy faces, big laughs, Anna’s chit-chatting, and I’m pretty sure, Berta will join the fun very soon.

A little moment while singing ‘Money, money, money’ from Mamma Mia…

“I work all night, I work all day
To pay the bills I have to pay

As the sun started going down we headed outside for a walk. The house is situated in a beautiful area, very close to a big park full of bright colored leaves from yellow through red to brown. I really liked the sound of the crunchy leaves beneath my shoes. Berta fell back asleep very quickly in the fresh air. Anna picked up a big basket and ran forward, we could hardly catch her. Her sweet curls reminded me of my childhood and all these photos my Dad took of me, too. We all had so much fun collecting leaves, chasing each other that by the end of the day it was really nice to sit down a bit for some cookies and tea…

Eszter and Julien lived in the center of London, in the Tower Bridge area. Maxime is their cute little one year old boy who celebrated his birthday in August. We were originally planning a birthday shoot but after hearing their story about moving to the sunny coast of France a few weeks later, a lovely family session proved to be the best to preserve these precious memories of this little guy’s first year in London. After his nap time we headed outside for a walk along the canal first, just look at his big smile! Pretty sure Eszter and Julien had some laughs too when I lied down on the hallway floor to capture this moment!

As we reached the Tower Bridge area, Maxime thought it would be fun to run all around. I had a real workout with this little boy! There weren’t too many people around, so it was all his playground. The fun part was when he got really excited about his buggy with all the interesting stuff in it. So this is how our chase looked like: Maxime was running after his buggy and I was somewhere in between running backwards and taking photos when he stopped for a second, or even less. ‘How can children have so much energy?’, I’m always wondering…

We were a bit worried about the weather because huge & dark clouds came and go, but luckily no rain and the sunset turned out to be amazing… I love the feeling of the warm rays of sunshine touching my face this time of the day!

We were about to finish our shoot when Eszter spotted that huge white ship in the background. That’s where she worked before Maxime arrived which brought back all her good memories.
