It’s not a party until Mad Dog hot sauce walks in!
The Mad Hatter must have dashed a little Mad Dog 357 Hot Sauce in the tea to have made the party so mad. Measuring at 357,000 Scoville units (SHUs), this hot sauce is the perfect addition to your next “tea” party which may include tacos.
The recipe is just as mad which includes cayenne peppers (160,000 SHUs), fresh and fiery habanero peppers, and a chili pepper extract that measures at 3,000,000 SHUs.
Timid little Alice wouldn’t stand a chance against this hot sauce. The question is are you mad enough to try it?
One sprinkle of the extreme sauce packs a powerful ball of burning fire, making it one of the hottest sauces in the world. This is not a sauce to be taken lightly, drinking it with your pinky up. This sauce is as Mad as a Hatter.
The curious compound, capsaicin, not only is to blame for the maddening heat but also has many benefits to you and your tea party mates. Capsaicin helps to warm you up especially if you are a shivering Door mouse, keeps you alert like the White Rabbit so you won’t be late, and can even help elevate your mood during the downtimes which someone like Alice needs because let’s face it, she’s a nightmare caught in a daydream.
In addition to the incredible heat of Mad Dog 357 Hot Sauce, it also emblazons a bold flavor that adds lots of delicious madness to any dish.
We recommend trying Mad Dog 357 Hot Sauce on these delectable recipes:
Spicy Grilled Cheese Roll-Ups
Bacon-Cheddar Pinwheels
Crockpot Chicken Chili
These recipes are perfect for those “unbirthdays” in your life - aka perfect for any occasion.
So while it is not recommended to listen to the bottle that reads “drink me” - it is perfectly safe to drizzle on those tea party quesadillas and nachos.

Remember back in the computer lab at school and the best day of your life was when you got to play Oregon Trail?
It was better than recess, getting string cheese in your lunch box, or receiving an invitation to Bobby’s birthday party at Chuck E. Cheese. There was simply no other game like it.
But like all childhood thrills, it was a game of real-life that taught kids about the perils of making the treacherous journey out West. Braving the cold temperatures, fear of starvation, and of course dysentery. Somebody always died of dysentery.
What is dysentery?
Dysentery is the inflammation of the intestine causing diarrhea with blood. Pretty awful!
How do chili peppers help with diarrhea?
Chili peppers are anti-inflammatory and contain an element called Capsaicin which is a powerful agent to help kill the toxic bacteria that cause diarrhea.
Other ways chili peppers could have helped settlers on The Oregon Trail
Pain relief, sinus relief, and congestion prevent stomach ulcers, warming cold feet, help with insomnia, relief from migraines.
Here’s a tea the settlers could have made during their journey to improve their digestive system.
Oregon Trail No-Dysentery Tea
• Boil 2 cups of water• stir in 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon and 1/8 teaspoon of cayenne pepper• reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes• remove from heat and let steep for 10 minutes• drink 1/4 cup every 30 minutes for relief
If you plan on traveling the Oregon Trail, make sure you take a bottle of Mad Dog 357 Hot Sauce for extra protection.

Capsaicin is all the rage when it comes to describing the innermost superpowers of chili peppers.
It is the most written about, spoken about, and researched compound in chili peppers. Capsaicin is the compound in charge of the heat and burns in peppers and many positive health benefits.
But Capsaicin isn’t just one compound show. That’s right - there are other superheroes in the bunch.
Here is a list of some of the less talked about, under the radar compounds that help achieve many of the incredible benefits of chili peppers.
Ferulic Acid ~ this is the compound that is found in the seeds of chili peppers and that acts as an antioxidant and helps protect against many chronic diseases. It also helps to fight the free-radical damage that contributes to aging.
Lutein ~ mostly found in green chilies, this compound promotes positive eye health. It is known in the health world as the "eye vitamin”. Lutein is an antioxidant that helps protect the eyes from oxidative stress.
Violaxanthin ~ this is the primary compound in yellow chili peppers and acts as an antioxidant. It’s the same compound also found in leafy green veggies like spinach. It can help slow the process of cancer in skin and the stomach. It is also known to help prevent prostate cancer.
Capsanthin ~ this is the compound that makes red chili peppers their bold red color. It’s a powerful antioxidant that has been known to protect against cancer - most effective in prevented the further spread of pancreatic and skin cancer cells.
Sinapic acid ~ An antioxidant that acts as an anti-inflammatory, and has antiseptic properties. It inhibits dangerous free radicals and helps in the fight against aging.

If your dating life has become as stale as that half bagel that still lies on the seat of your car in the brown paper bag from last week, then maybe you need something to spice it up.
Recent research suggests that people who love hot sauce have certain personality traits that make them crave not only hot, spicy foods, but also adventure, excitement, and sensation seeking.
The cravings differ between men and women.
Women were found to be sensation seekers - loving the burning sensation in their mouth, while men were more reward seekers. Men liked the reward of being perceived as macho for being able to withstand the heat. The reward was a social reward that made them feel accepted by their peers for braving the hot sauce.
This study was an extension of research done in the 1980s where hot sauce lovers were compared to those who were also fond of roller coasters. Research showed that people compared the risk with consuming hot sauce with riding a roller coaster - a risk that could mean you felt like you were going to die, but also knew you were perfectly safe. This is also known as a “constrained risk”.
Risk-takers have also been shown in a 2015 study to be more successful and smarter. Two attractive qualities when looking for your online mate. They are people that are more active in seeking out challenges both out of curiosity and hunger. These people are also found to be a combination of playful, serious, and joyful.
Whether your risk-taker match is a match for a lifetime, nobody knows. The key to risk-taking is to be prepared or else accidents may befall. However, a nice Taco Tuesday out (hot sauce included) never hurt anyone.

Betcha didn’t know you could eat the entire chili pepper!
Your love for chili peppers doesn’t need to stop at the juicy pepper. There are many pepper varieties where you can safely eat the leaves and add them to your favorite dishes.
Eating the leaves of chili peppers is a common culinary practice in Korea and the Philippines. They are boiled and cooked and used in various recipes including Chicken Tinola, which is a type of soup popular in Asian culture that uses hot pepper leaves to add flavor. In Korea, chili leaves are used to make Kimchi. In other cultures like Russia, they boil the leaves and with salt for the winter months using them in dishes to make sour cream and kefir.
When boiled, the leaves add a subtle flavor to the dish - a mild leafy flavor mixed with a bit of sweet. Most people compare the taste of a cooked pepper leave to that of spinach. However some pepper leaves are not safe to eat, some can even be poisonous. The toxins in the leaves are mostly found in the bigger leaves on the pepper plant, picking the baby leaves is much safer. Cooking the leaves is also a must, you should never eat the leaves raw.
Pepper Leaves Safe To Eat
All Leaves of the Capsicum pepper family (below) are safe to eat if boiled or cooked.

Capsicum Frutescens

this includes the African Bird’s Eye pepper, Kambuzi pepper, Tabasco pepper, Malagueta pepper. The plants may also contain flowers which are not edible.

Capsicum Annum

this includes the banana pepper, cayenne pepper, and serrano chili peppers
Pepper Leaves Not Safe to Eat
Most leaves that come from the Solanaceous crops like bell peppers and also eggplant, tomatoes and potatoes.
Pepper Leaves are also very nutritious and contain high levels of Vitamin A and C. The leaves are also rich in antioxidants that can prevent damage to cells.

Things that keep people up at night…
Barking dogs.
Job stress.
The proper spelling of “chili”
If the English language wasn’t complex enough, now we have 100 different ways to spell “chili” (okay maybe mostly just 3 ways, but it might as well be 100). Not the chili with beans in it, but “chili” peppers. Not the chilly as in freezing cold, but spicy chili paste you dab on your teriyaki chicken.
So here’s the deal on the different spellings of “chili”. Because the chili pepper has such a long history, it is only natural that the spelling of the word can change throughout it’s almost prehistoric existence. Also, the chili is found in so many different countries - different varieties, different uses, so it’s spelling is often translated with slight variations.
Chilli (with two L’s)

This spelling original comes from the Aztec period. The Nahuatl language, used by the Aztecs, is still spoke by nearly 1.5 million people in Mexico - thus bringing us to the next spelling of “chili”.

Chile (with an e)

Looking at this spelling you may instantly think Chile, the country in South America, but Chile with an “e” is the way the Spanish-speaking people of Mexico translated the word from the original Aztec spelling.

Chili (with an i)

This was also translated from the original Aztec spelling, but for the United States. In many instances you may find people, foodies, restaurants, hot and spicy aficionados refer to it as chili peppers, chili sauce, chili paste, etc. Even the band Red Hot Chili Peppers spell it with an “i”.

What’s the proper way to spell it?
The Chile Pepper Institute still uses the original spelling of Chile with an “e”, stating that chile “refers to the plant or fruit from the plant while the term chili refers to a culinary dish consisting of a meat, beans, tomatoes and chile powder.”
In the U.S., there are two different ways that are acceptable to spell “chili”. Even the dictionary gives various ways to spell the quizzical word, which means we have freedom to spell chili however we like. So slice up some chile peppers and put them in a hot pot of chili.

Princess Kate - she’s just like us!
Princess Kate and Prince William are world travelers as their Royal Duty.
With their travels comes much to do about eating including foods not native to England, which tend to be bland and flavorless.
Before traveling to India, The Duchess of Cambridge (Princess Kate) revealed that she is quite a fan of spicy food, but however, Prince William does not. She said that he “struggles” with spicy foods.
On a tour of India and Bhutan in 2016...
Kate told model Neelam Gill (her family is from Punjab) that she loves Indian food. She mostly prefers vegetarian dishes, so on her tour of India, she ate veggie kabobs and lentil curry.
Some of Kate’s favorite foods while pregnant included a spicy curry vegetable soup prepared for by an Indian couple who owned a shop near her home in Berkshire.
It could be that Prince William takes after his grandmother, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, whose palate is quite simple and prefers tea and scones. In fact, the most adventurous recipe in the Palace arsenal is Lamb Burger. There was a hint of spice though in the Coronation Sandwiches which were rolls filled with creamy curry chicken.
However, brother Prince Harry is quite keen on spicy foods. During his military tour in Afghanistan, Harry took to eating Indian dishes quite often including his favorite, “fiery goat curries cooked by Ghurka soldiers.” Prince Harry also revealed to a UK newspaper that his father, Prince Charles was fond of curry as well.
Put the two brothers together and you could get a dinner much like one they had at a popular British curry house in 2012 (also a favorite restaurant of Brad Pitt) where the brothers ordered a ton of food - Harry ordering the spicier dishes and William sticking with the mild ones.
Be Like Kate! - On your next home-cooked meal, sprinkle a little Boomslang Ghost Pepper Sauce for added heat!

Hot sauce, like many condiments, is offered in many varieties, and like potato chips, you can’t have just one.
You may have a habanero hot sauce, a chipotle one, and a jalapeño sauce. Your pantry may also be stocked with various heats from mild to super hot.
All these half-used bottles of hot sauce may start looking a little tired, waiting to be used up to the last drop and you’re just ready for a fresh new batch already.
But how can you use all the hot sauce you already have?
Here are some easy ways to incorporate more hot sauce into your meals every day.

Toss your chicken wings in hot sauce. You can easily use half a bottle of hot sauce to smother your wings. Try the recipe for Mad Dog Boneless Chicken Wings.

Add hot sauce to your barbecue marinade. Toss a little shrimp on the barbie and everything else hitting the grill - chicken, steak, and veggies. Try Mad Dog Mexican Grilled Corn.
Toast your bread by first adding a dollop of hot sauce and then your favorite cheese. Bake in a toaster oven to make a heavenly cheesy toast. Perfectly paired with soup like Loaded Lava Soup.

Save those hot sauce packets for your next picnic and instead use your own hot sauce waiting patiently in your kitchen on all your fast food and takeout. Hot sauce tastes great on Chinese and Thai takeout.
Mix hot sauce into your second favorite condiment like ketchup or mayo and use it as a spicy addition to your juicy hot dog or burger. It’s also tasty mixed in with tartar sauce to kick those fish & chips up a notch.
Make it a habit to add hot sauce to your breakfast every day - from eggs to omelets, to avocado toast there are plenty of ways to add hot sauce to your morning meal. For more ideas read Why Breakfast is Hot Sauce’s Favorite Meal.
Sprinkle a little hot sauce over your home movie popcorn.
Add a dash to your hot chocolate - sounds weird, but tastes awesome!

For more ideas visit Mad Dog recipes.

To make use of your bottles after you’ve used the last magic drop of hot sauce, rinse out thoroughly with water and fill again with water. Place upside down in a potted plant and is a self-waterer while you take that much needed long weekend vacation.

Jumping out of airplanes..
Mountain climbing with flip flops, ordering “meat of the day” at a roadside diner - these are all things people who live life on the edge may experience.
Living life as a daredevil can get kind of boring. Always trying to find that next “dare”, that next experience that will blow people’s minds.
Say hello to Mad Dog 357 No. 9 Plutonium.
Mad Dog 357 Plutonium 9 Million Scoville Pepper Extract is a daredevil’s dream. An extract so hot that there is a disclaimer to read before trying it.
The name itself signals a bit of danger. Just an atom of plutonium equals mass destruction. And although Mad Dog 357 Plutonium won’t wipe out an entire neighborhood, it can leave a bit of scalding heat inside your mouth (and possibly on your hands if you touch it without protection). This is because of this extract measures at a whopping 9 Million Scoville Units - one of the hottest and purest extracts in the world. Hear those daredevils?
The adrenaline rush that daredevils so crave is found when consuming extreme pepper extract. The capsaicin triggers your pain receptors making you beg for mercy because your brain is getting the signal that you may be injured, but in reality, your mouth is burning.
In between bungee jumping and zip-lining through poison ivy, daredevils should keep a bottle of this pepper extract in their pantry to keep the adrenaline rush going. Dashing a little on their eggs in the morning, tacos in the afternoon, and their boring pasta dish for dinner will keep them entertained until their next daring adventure.
No. 9 Plutonium is Extreme. It is 60% pure capsaicin so its original form is solid. It is initially heated to bottle into an extract, so daredevils will need to heat it at 140 degrees Fahrenheit in order to successfully remove the extract from the bottle.
This bottle is the perfect gift for the daredevil in your life. It will at least keep them at home and off the edge of a cliff.

An organic, rare and hard to find chili pepper that is hotter than hell
The Devil’s Tongue is a devilishly hot pepper that is quite mysterious in origin. No one quite knows where it came from, but I believe it is from the Habanero family and could come from the Caribbean.
Regardless of where the pepper came from, it was first known to be discovered on an Amish farm in Pennsylvania in the early 1990s, growing in a garden of habaneros.
Its name comes from the shape of the pepper (long, curvy, slender, and bumpy like a tongue) and hotter than hell.
In Scoville Tests done by master grower Jim Duffy (he also cultivated the Trinidad Scorpion Pepper), the Devil’s Tongue rates at over 500,000 SHUs, making it approximately the 7th Hottest Pepper in the World. It is similar to shape to the Fatalii Pepper but sweeter and hotter.
In addition to the heat it packs, there is also a citrus and nutty taste to the pepper. The pepper grows in both colors of red and yellow, but the red is a sweeter, but a spicier variation. The chili plant can grow up to four feet tall and take 90 days to mature. To grow at its peak it needs to be grown in warmer climates and lots of sunlight.
The Devil’s Tongue can be dried, pickled or eaten as is topped on salads or cooked to liven up foods like chili.

How psychologists are comparing chili peppers to thrill rides
There is nothing more thrilling than experiencing both the terror and excitement of riding a rollercoaster….oh wait. Yeah, there is.
Eating a chili pepper.
Research by psychologist Paul Rozin suggests that the adrenaline rush of riding a roller coaster - you know the feeling that you might die, but you are safely harnessed in and locked on a track, is similar to the feeling you get when eating a chili pepper.
When most people eat a chili pepper they experience that short period of doubt and unknowing.
Am I going to die?
Is my mouth going to burn off?
Why am I sweating so hard?
This feeling is also known as “constrained risk”. This is when you do something knowing that you may experience fear and pain, but that it will not do harm to you. You are able to endure the pain or fear to ultimately find pleasure. You are able to experience intense and extreme feelings without any risk. Other examples can be walking through a haunted house maze or bungee jumping, or even exercise.
Dr. Rozin is the world’s leading expert on “disgust”. He has done extensive research on people’s reactions to foods - more specific nature of cuisine and cultural evolution, acquisition of likes and dislikes of food, biological determinants of food choices, and psychological responses to recycled water.
Roller coasters are often tall, winding, and even spiral upside down. The intense feelings of fear are then followed by exhilaration, mostly because you felt scared as you were winding upside down, holding tight onto the harness, screaming your head off, but then slowly turning that scream into a laugh as you make your final descent back to home base. This is much like tasting a chili pepper. The sensation of the heat may start out small just like the inching of the roller coaster cart to its highest point, but then the heat intensifies and you feel a little bit of pain on your tongue and then a little fear of the intense heat that is about to come, but ultimately the chili pepper satisfies and you can’t wait to eat your next one.

Green Amigo Hot Sauce comes in a 5oz bottle and made with fresh jalapeño peppers, red wine vinegar, lime juice, cilantro, onions, garlic, and salt. It has a very low Scoville Heat Unit (SHU) of just 5,000.
Just because Granny is getting up in her years, doesn’t mean she has to stay home from the party. She’s wanting that little spice in her life ever so once in a while and Green Amigo Hot Sauce is the perfect taste bud treat.
Granny will love to use Green Amigo Hot Sauce as a dipping sauce for her favorite veggies or tortilla chips. She can also use her homegrown cooking skills to use the hot sauce as a delicious marinade for meat, fish, or poultry. Think of all the ways Granny can use this mild hot sauce in her cooking. Her next card night with the ladies will feature a whole lot of Bridge playing with an added kick of Green Amigo.
Green Amigo goes great in salsas by adding one bottle of Green Amigo to 3 cups of chopped tomatoes. Granny doesn’t even have to turn on the stove.
Don’t let grandma be green with envy. Give her a new friend. The Rocoto Pepper (Capsicum pubescens) is a plump pepper that looks more like an apple or pear than a long, stringy pepper-like jalapeño cousin.
In fact, its attributes might make the Rocota the less attractive cousin with its black seeds, hairy leaves, and thick flesh - much like bell pepper.
On the Scoville Scale, that measures heat, it falls between 50,000-250,000 - can be mild, but definitely take you by surprise and fall more on the hot side of the scale.
When you first taste a Rocota Pepper it can have a sweet, citrusy flavor. This makes the pepper great to use in salsas, salads, and even stuffed. However, this sweetness lasts a short time as the heat starts to kick in - rapidly. The Rocoto Pepper has a unique heat profile - as hot as habanero and even hotter than a serrano chile.
The heat is sharp and you can feel it in your entire mouth, lips, and throat. The heat lingers in your mouth. The pepper’s heat can be reduced if soak in water overnight. To bring out its full breadth of flavors, dry roasting the Rocoto Pepper is best.
The Rocoto Pepper is one of the oldest cultivated peppers. Commonly known as Manzano chile (means apple or apple-shaped in Mexico), its origins are found in the Michoacan highlands in Mexico. Its unique growing conditions make it unlike most chiles - able to withstand cold temperatures, but not freezing.
The Rocoto Pepper plant can grow for nearly 15 years and stand up to 10 feet tall giving it the nickname, tree chile. The plant also blooms star-shaped flowers alongside the peppers. It’s a great plant to grow in your garden or balcony as it helps to ward off insects.
Other uses for the pepper include treating indigestion, asthma, and rheumatism.

The Chili Pepper Institute in New Mexico knows a thing or two about growing chili peppers.
They happened to breed a new type of pepper known as the NuMex Easter Pepper.
Its stunning bouquet of yellow, red, orange, and purple peppers gives this spicy arrangement a springtime feel.
Gardeners are praising these peppers as very easy to grow. They grow compact, just six inches tall. Their clusters usually stay at 4-6 peppers and are in colorful shades of the pepper rainbow minus the green. Before they blossom, the plant produces tiny white flowers as a sign the peppers are about the burst.
The peppers are sun worshippers (must grow in direct sunlight) and grow pointed upwards. They are privy to different temps and environmental conditions including heat, drought, humidity, and rain.
The peppers are from the Capsicum Annum family and usually blossom 4-6 weeks after planting and then grow continuously with ripe, green foliage surrounding the peppers. They are considered ornamental peppers which are peppers that are simply beautiful and give off an array of colors. They grow best in pots, long skinny beds, on patios, and in the outdoors. They plant best in springtime and
The pepper plant won the All-American Selections award in 2014. They definitely pack some heat so be careful when biting into one. On the Scoville chart, they range 30,000-50,000 SHU.
Their colorful bouquet reminds gardeners of the pastel color eggs in an Easter basket.

As if being # 1 and # 3 Presidents and authoring the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence were not enough, George Washington and Thomas Jefferson were talented gardeners as well. Both were the first Presidents to dip their green thumbs into planting peppers.
Before George Washington was President, he was a farmer and gardener. Everything that was planted in his botanical garden at his estate at Mount Vernon was recorded so historians know exactly from poppers to peppers what grew in his garden. One of the plants he planted were “cayan” as in the cayenne pepper plant and “bird pepper”.
Some of his men that fought in the American Revolutionary War used to put red peppers in water and drink it as a cordial.
Thomas _Jefferson, our third President, also was quite the gardener. He kept detailed records in his garden book for nearly 60 years. In his book, he recorded that he planted “Capsicum Frutes" which are a variety of both hot and sweet peppers. . He planted the peppers in pots in his kitchen garden as early as 1814. He also recorded that the plant was easy to tend to and really only needed protection from the most severe frost. He talked of them growing abundantly and plentiful. He wrote that the peppers could be turned into a pickled vinegar and used on lettuce, rice, fish, and meats.
The pepper seeds that both Presidents had planted were said to have come from ships traveling for trade purposed from Spain and the West Indies where it was used as much as Americans

Peru’s cuisine is ranked as one of the world’s best with eight of its world-class restaurants ranked in the Top 50 in the world.
The country is also a trendsetter when it comes to introducing new superfoods - previously choosing Maca and Quinoa as superfoods in which the rest of the world took notice and followed.
Now Peru is stepping back to the classics - chilies and peppers. There are over 300 varieties of chilies and peppers in Peru, making them both common and popular in the Peruvian diet. This beats out the typical popular pepper countries of China, India, and Mexico.
So what is a superfood?
A superfood is a fancy marketing term used to describe foods with maximum health benefits and it tends to increases sales of a certain product - say Kale chips, when introduced to a wide audience. Usually, media will pick up on the newest “superfood” craze and begin flooding the internet with stories on everything from health benefits to recipes using the new “superfood” of the moment.
So how does a nation choose a new superfood?
Well, a lot of thought goes into this process like for instance, universities from various countries work together to see how sustainable a certain superfood is to the world population, how it can benefit the development of rural areas, and how best to introduce the food to the global market. Currently researchers from the University of La Molina and the University of Belgium of working together on The Capsicum Project to flesh out all these factors. The good news is the world market is showing a high demand for spicy foods and chilies and peppers are often the key ingredient to kick up the heat!
Why chilies and peppers?
They are a powerhouse of nutrients and packed with antioxidants, high in vitamin A, B, C, K and also in fiber and magnesium. And like most superfoods, have been shown to extend life expectancy.

It’s one of life’s biggest “arse” pains.
Trying to navigate through life without staining your clothes, staining the carpets, staining your reputation. Life is hard enough and walking around with stains on your clothes is like a social sin - keep the hot sauce on your tacos, not on your shirt. But alas, it happens, stains happen and while we worry about wine and blood, sometimes that juicy, spicy, goddess of a sauce can creep on our shirts and carpets like that nerdy, socially-awkward co-worker trying to ask you on a date.
Here is the best way to get hot sauce stains out, and as a general rule - the faster you get to it, the better chance you have of removing the stain completely:
For clothes and carpets:

mix 1 tablespoon of dishwashing liquid (Dawn is best) with 2 cups of warm to hot water.
use a clean, white cloth that is soaked in the solution
sponge the hot sauce stain by applying pressure
continue applying pressure, repeat steps 2 & 3 until the stain disappears

If the stain is still being stubborn try these additional methods:

Use vinegar on the stain by dabbing it directly on the stain. If cleaning instructions allow, machine wash it
Rub salt onto the stain and then sprinkle with lemon juice
For silk and wool garments use cornstarch to soak up the hot sauce stain. Allow to sit for 20 minutes. Remove with a clean, white cloth - repeat until removed

Points to remember:

Always dab from the outside in towards the stain so that the stain doesn’t spread
Always allow the dish detergent to sit on the stain to absorb and work its magic
Do not place in dryer if the stain is not completely gone. Keep working on the stain, prior to using the dryer
For carpets, before adding a new solution to better clean the stain, make sure you wash and clean the old solution out. For instance, make sure the dishwashing liquid is removed before adding vinegar, etc.

Now that you are super confident in your ability to eat a messy taco drowning with hot sauce, try Mad Dog 357 Pure Ghost Pepper Hot Sauce. Stain it with the good stuff!

If only Pirates knew about the power of peppers…
While the spicy peppers were a good source of Vitamin C to prevent scurvy, they also were later discovered that they help maintain the health of ships which would have come in handy when looking for buried treasures on the high seas.
Barnacles are a sailor’s worst nightmare.
They are related to the crab, lobster, and shrimp family and stick to the bottom of boats and don’t let go. They stay in the same place where they settle for the rest of their life, growing shells around them and increasing their mass onto a ship’s hull.
In addition to barnacles not being an attractive feature for a boat, they can weigh a ship down, decrease its performance, and cause the ship to use 30% more fuel.
The easy solution is to coat the ship’s hull with anti-barnacle paint. Unfortunately, this paint is filled with toxic chemicals that are also not good for the boat or for the sea waters.
A natural solution? Well, thanks to a sailor from the United States named Ken Fischer back in the 90s who had an “Aha” moment while eating a sandwich doused in hot sauce. Would barnacles enjoy hot sauce? A little experimenting with chili peppers, he discovered that barnacles actually hate the hot peppers. He created a type of non-toxic paint whose main ingredient is red peppers. Not officially trademarked, many sailors are creating their own recipe of non-toxic paint and pepper extract mixture and applying it to their ship’s hull.
The chili peppers have become such a good luck charm for sailors that some have started to string chili peppers and tie them to their boats to ward off sharks who supposedly are not fans of peppers as well.

St. Patrick’s Day is March 17.
When you think of the green emerald isles of Ireland, you don’t normally associate it with peppers, however, Ireland has had its fair share of a run-in with peppers.

In 2014, Air France was forced to make an emergency landing in Ireland when a shipment of peppers set off the plane’s fire alarm during flight.

The Carolina Reaper pepper made big headlines in the local Ireland newspapers when it first went on sale at the local grocery stores in the summer of 2016. It was part of their annual Big Grill Fest which showcases award-winning chili and hot wings and also the “Last Man or Woman Standing” contest where the spicy pepper tests 20 participants' tolerance levels. Ireland introduced the sale of the Komodo Dragon Pepper at local stores the year before.

Much like hot sauce is becoming the most popular condiment in America, spicy condiments are also making their mark in Irish cuisine. Jalapeño Pepper Relish is a popular spread in Ireland that is used to spice up sandwiches, crackers, dip, and other snacks. Ireland’s own Guinness Beer Factory has even come up with a Guinness Chipotle BBQ Sauce where it adds Chipotle peppers to a thick and bold sauce to use on chicken and hamburgers.

In 2013 the “spice bag” went viral in Dublin, Ireland. What is a “spice bag”? Everyone on Twitter and Facebook was obsessing over this bag that was created to attract the younger generation and those who loved to eat their food “on the go”. The “spice bag” also known as the “spicy bag” or “hot bag” was a paper bag filled with chicken, chips (french fries), and a mixture of red and green chili peppers. The bag even won an award in Ireland as “Ireland’s Favorite Takeaway Food”.

The use of pepper spray, even in the form of self-defense is against the law in Ireland and can carry a sentence of up to five years. Many people that live in Ireland are coming up with their own creative ways to dance around this law by carrying plastic bags of hot ground pepper with them, a spray bottle with a mixture of peppermint oil and alcohol, and even carrying a quart of whiskey to throw in the assailant’s eyes.

It’s no secret that hot peppers, more specifically capsaicin the compound in hot peppers that makes them so spicy can be harmful to mammals including humans if not consumed with care.
(make sure you use gloves while cooking with them).
Animals can have allergic skin reactions to peppers if eaten or touched and of course be hard on their digestive systems as well. Birds, however, are immune to capsaicin.
Parrots are just as immune, however, they have an extra special power against hot peppers.
Their tongues are naturally dry. Instead of producing saliva on the base of the tongue, most of the saliva is found at the back of the tongue so food and go down smoothly.
In addition, unlike humans, parrots have very few taste buds on their tongues and have naturally an inferior sense of taste and smell. They can’t taste the heat of pepper or smell it.
Most diets that are common for parrots are lacking in Vitamin A which chili peppers have a healthy dose of. So adding chilies in addition to their normal feeding can help increase their essential vitamin intake.
Many parrot owners treat their feathery pet with fresh peppers, dried chili peppers, or even ground red habanero chilies, but only as special treats. A diet solely of hot peppers may cause sensitivity or digestive issues.
Here is a video of a Mexican Parrot eating a spicy green pepper.

Historically speaking we are lucky to be living in the times of spicy foods and hot sauce.
Back in the day's poor pilgrims and pirates were eating non-flavorful foods plus having to deal with scurvy and dysentery (remember Oregon Trail?!). Let’s take a culinary journey back to the days of our ancestors when they could have used a little Mad Dog Colon Cleanser to kickstart that covered wagon.
Pilgrims had a pretty basic diet of fish, beans, peas, porridge, and biscuits.
If they would have had some Mad Dog 357 Hot Sauce minis they could have not only brought them over with them on the Mayflower for some spicy food at sea but shared them on the first Thanksgiving turkey with the Native Americans.
Cowboys had an infamous cheap and easy-to-travel-on-horses diet. They mostly ate cornbread, apples, beef, pork, beans, biscuits, potatoes, and some greens. Cowboys carrying Mad Dog 357 would have kept their insides clean while working their taste buds overtime. Hot sauce on cornbread is like biting into a whole new world.
Pirates are definitely not vegan and what Greenpeace would probably label as inhumane. They caught their own food at sea which included turtles, dolphins, and other fish. They brought food aboard a ship that would last long periods of time like hard biscuits. Some fruits like yams, plantains, and pineapples were also their food of choice until they spoiled for the insects got to them. Hot sauce has an extra-long shelf life which could have helped them during their long voyages, especially making those hard biscuits taste better. Mad Dog 357 Mountain Man Hot Sauce is made of slow-roasted corn, garlic, and chipotle which is pretty much a meal in itself.
The Gold Rush Miners’ diet consisted of mostly beans which would have tasted a whole lot better if they had Mad Dog 357 Ghost Pepper Hot Sauce while panning for gold. Other foods for the original gold diggers included dried apples, bread, biscuits, boiled potatoes, and dried pork. Their only taste of excitement was a little bit of brandy in case they got thirsty, but mostly they drank water or coffee. All the gold and they are still poor. You have to be rich in flavor!

While the red carpet is buzzing about who is wearing who and who is dating who, we’re most concerned about who likes it spicy…and even those who don’t.
Here is a list of some of your nominated actors and actresses who are turned on or turned off by hot and spicy foods:
Natalie Portman: Best Actress for Jackie ~ A pregnant Portman was seen at NYC’s Cafe Mogador eating some tasty breakfast dishes like Moroccan eggs with spicy tomato sauce, merguez sausage, and other foods with a kick — which are said to help pregnant women close to their due dates go into labor. - via In Touch Magazine
Ryan Gosling: Best Actor for La La Land ~ Is a frequent diner at Los Angeles’ Jitlada, a spicy Southern Thai restaurant. Dishes include Spicy Mint Noodles and Spicy Basil Eggplant.
Emma Stone: Best Actress for La La Land ~ Tells Rolling Stone Magazine, "I can't have spicy foods," Stone says. The issue, it turns out, is that part of her stomach protrudes "into my esophagus," which sounds gnarly but is actually pretty manageable, increased chances of acid reflux notwithstanding. "I was born with it," Stone notes cheerfully. She snaps apart her chopsticks. "I was like a little old man as a young lady.”
Denzel Washington: Best Actor for Fences ~ Loves curry and cayenne spices and even has his own recipe for Chicken Curry.
Nicole Kidman: Best Supporting Actress for Lion ~ Kidman told Food & Wine Magazine that one of her favorite meals was Oven-Roasted Lamb Chops with Mint & Jalapeño Chimichurri sauce.
Watch the Oscars on ABC February 26th and become your own best actor by dousing some Mad Dog 357 hot sauce on your Oscar-viewing snacks.

Like many early cultures, Mexico’s handmade artifacts were a significant indicator of a country’s cultural development.
Pottery was a striking example of how the early people cooked, ate, transported water, drank, stored food, and even held the remains of loved ones.
Archaeologists have discovered a spicy detail in the vessels of early Mexican pottery dating back over 2400 years. Upon careful analysis and scraping samples from inside the vessels, they uncovered traces of capsaicin the active compound found in chili peppers. These vessels were thought to be used to make spicy drinks and to hold condiments and sauces.
In fact, using pottery to make spicy drinks in Mexico has been dated back to 400 B.C. That dates back further than your embarrassing weekend in Tijuana.
While people are still figuring out which came first, the chicken or the egg, the historians have concluded that chili peppers were used before chocolate, meaning the drinks being prepared inside the vessels were not the spicy Mexican hot chocolate we see on the menus in today’s restaurants.
Prior, it was believed that the spouted vessels were used solely to make cacao (chocolate) beverages and then either achiote, allspice, honey, maize, vanilla, zapote, various fruits, and/or chili peppers were added to the bitter chocolate to make it into a tasty drink. But now, it’s believed with these additional findings, that chili peppers were used in the vessels first. Whoever was the ancient person of Mexico to pour melted chocolate into a chili pepper-lined vessel was sure the hero of their time.
Other uses for putting chili peppers inside a vessel was to use as an insect repellent to keep any unwanted insects and rodents away.
The spicy vessels were discovered in both temples and in the tombs of the very rich and prominent. This could mean that whatever was made in the vessels were used in ritualistic ceremonies before being buried with the dead.

Did you know that jalapeños were intergalactic?
Jalapeños were the very first peppers in space which makes all the other peppers quite jealous.
The year was 1982 and the Space Shuttle Columbia was departing on NASA’s fifth space shuttle mission called STS-5. It was a five-day flight that departed on November 11 and landed on November 16.
The goal of the space mission was to deploy communication satellites into orbit. This was the first space mission that was in all aspects “operational” instead of “experimental”.
So now down to the spicy stuff….
Astronaut Sherwood “Woody” Spring used to grow jalapeños in his backyard. He was not going to be on this mission, but he gave his friend and fellow astronaut William B. Lenoir who was boarding the shuttle some of his freshly picked jalapeño peppers.
So there they were, those jalapeño peppers flying into outer space with the other astronauts, probably not knowing they were the first peppers in space.
So how did the astronauts like the jalapeños?
The mission log records indicated that Astronaut Lenoir reported back while in space “Tell Woody the jalapeños are outstanding!”
Fresh fruits and vegetables are a common request for Astronauts flying into space. The jalapeños are a great food to have in space as they have a longer “space” life and do not omit a strong odor. Some of the least requested fruits and vegetables in space are oranges and bananas because of their strong, lasting odor. The on-orbit shelf life for most fruits and vegetables is 2-3 days.

Caution! This post will make your mouth water and maybe even a little hot!
We’ve scoured America for the spiciest and tastiest hamburgers that our taste buds are jumping up and down for. From Coast to Coast - here is a list of the best of the best, let us know if there is one in your hometown we need to add!
Animal, Los Angeles - The Boner Burger
First things first this hamburger’s unique trait is that is it held together by good-ole fashioned toast! In between the toasted marble rye bread you can find oozing jack cheese, caramelized onions, spicy poblano chiles, and a special 420 sauce. Are you licking this post yet?
Huxley Restaurant, San Francisco - The Hot Mess
This is top secret, okay. Like only Very Important Burger Lovers (VIBL) can know that this is a secret menu item that you have to ask for. This burger is a spicy take on their popular Wesburger but instead substitutes pickled jalapeños for regular pickles and coats both buns in homemade hot sauce. Shhh! It’s a secret!
Temerario, New York City - Temerario Burger
While the burger itself holds its own in the spicy department, the unique heat of this burger is the black brioche bun which gets its distinct color from chile ash! The rest of the burger is a divine explosion of flavors with a short rib patty, Mansano cheese, and a Negro Modelo Morita glaze (yes the beer!, but also made from the Morita chili pepper). Also served with super spicy fries, Bonus!
Goodfriend, Dallas - The Fury Burger
If you are looking for danger in your hamburger, look no further. While this burger may look completely innocent, the real tasty terror is hidden under the mound of cheese. The staff even needs to wear gas masks while making this burger. The meat is sprinkled with ground ghost chili powder. The chef adds locally grown habanero and scorpion chilies (both dried and fresh) to make an incredibly spicy sauce that is smeared onto the bun. Oh, and they add homemade horseradish pickles just in case we haven’t been sweetly tortured enough. The result is a kick you in the teeth burger, but one that satisfies your devil of a soul.
The Fifty/50, Chicago - The Hell Burger
While this burger is a food lover dream on its own, the hot and spicy factor gives it that je ne sais quoi we’ve been looking for. In addition to the double slices of pepper jack cheese, you can add to your tasty burger habanero sauce, roasted jalapenos, and homemade hot sauce (all served on the side) for you to kick up the heat how you like it
If you can’t make it to any of these daringly hot and tasty burger joints, try a little hot sauce on your burger at home (add jalapeños and pepper jack cheese for an extra kick). We recommend Mad Dog 357 Pure Ghost Pepper Hot Sauce.

Police in China Cite Sleepy Drivers with Hot Chili Peppers

Chili Pepper News
<sr:tags>Mad Dog 357 Ghost Pepper Sauce, sleepy</sr:tags>
David Ashley

<sr:image>https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0363/5131/1916/articles/police-in-china-cite-sleepy-drivers-with-hot-chili-peppers-728718.jpg?v=1592511018</sr:image>

We’re moving to China!
Police are on the prowl for sleepy drivers behind the wheel. Instead of writing up a pricey ticket, police officers are handing out raw chili peppers to drivers to prevent them from catching some quick zzzz’s on the road.
In Chongqing, the highway service stations are equipped with chili peppers (especially in the Spring when sleepy drivers seem more rampant) and are ready to cite drivers with a helping chili, rather than a citation.
Chili Peppers when consumed or even a bite into one, can keep drivers alert.
This is especially important in China where roads are dangerous, often overcrowded with drivers speeding and switching back and forth between lanes ignoring traffic laws.
Hot peppers can keep you awake by affecting your body’s temperature, obviously rising after intake. Some people with sensitive stomach often experience indigestion which can also keep you awake.
Instead of getting pulled over by the police, may we suggest keeping a bottle of Mad Dog 357 Pure Ghost Hot Sauce in your car for emergencies? Just a sip will keep help keep you alert at the wheel!

Chili Peppers have quite the history, and random facts are just the thing to keep game night exciting as you serve some tasty grub drowning in hot sauce.
We uncovered some interesting historical facts about chili peppers and hot sauce - not alternate facts, but actual facts that date back to our forefathers.
Here are some of our favorite random facts.

George Washington and Thomas Jefferson loved peppers so much, they grew them behind their residences.
Christopher Columbus got props for discovering chili peppers in the Caribbean and taking them back to Europe even though the clever and resourceful Mayans actually began using them way before.
Japanese samurai soldiers would eat chili peppers before a battle because it made them feel invincible.

Wilbur Scoville, an American pharmacist, created his own scale in 1912 called The Scoville Scale to measure the heat index of different peppers.
Chili Peppers as cash? In the early days of civilization, the Mayans, Incans, and Aztecs used peppers as currency.
In ancient Asia, peppers and chilies would be ground up and placed in bags and thrown at their enemies during battle.
In early times, spicy foods using chili peppers were considered meals only for the rich as these and other exotic spices were expensive and hard to get during the trade.
During the Aztec period, chilies were used to prevent illness and even witchcraft. You were not trusted if you did not eat chilies and thus marked as an evil sorcerer.

Having your hot sauce burning with flavors is one trend that never goes out of style.
This year Hot Sauce is getting a remix with upcoming trends that are blending different elements to give the hot sauce lover the ultimate kick.
Here are the 3 trends in Hot Sauce for 2017:

Fruit Infused Hot Sauce - The sweet and tart tastes of all-natural fruits infused in the hot sauce balance the spicy tones of the peppers. Hot sauces infused with such fruits as mango, kiwi, and strawberries are hitting the market in 2017. These sauces taste best on chicken and turkey dishes - we feel a hot Thanksgiving coming on!

Alcohol Infused Hot Sauce - Yes Please! This trend is like having Happy Hour each time you sprinkle your nachos with hot sauce. While hot sauce has been a trend in cocktails by adding a few spicy drops to your favorite drink (try Mad Dog 357 Ghost Pepper Extract) it now turns to put a few drops of alcohol in your hot sauce. Bourbon and Tequila are the top spirits hitting the hot sauce market and also blending other flavors like Cherry Vanilla Bourbon Hot Sauce. These sauces taste great on meat and BBQ dishes.

Mixing different blends of peppers gives hot sauce addicts an additional reason to turn up the heat. Hot sauce companies are finding creative ways to use a variety of chilies, spices, and peppers to make a hot, yet tasty bottle. Even using “cross-cultural” peppers like the Ghost Pepper from India together with the Trinidad Scorpion from Trinidad gives a worldly flavor to any dish. These blends work on anything (think pizza!), but beware they can be too hot for most!

Try Mad Dog 357 Collector’s Edition made with an extra hot blend of fresh Habanero peppers and cayenne peppers

Another treat? Restaurant 1868 is a casual, cafeteria-style eatery featuring entrees made with Tabasco sauce like Red Beans, Crawfish Étouffée, and Chili.

Uncle Sam’s Pepper at Sparky’s Burgers: Hatch, New Mexico - The green chili pepper is the official pepper of the state of New Mexico and what better way to see it in all its glory than by visiting Sparky’s Burgers and witnessing the massive statue of Uncle Sam holding the state’s favorite pepper. With President’s Day soon approaching, we wanted to reflect back on the palates of Presidents
Here are highlight of the Commander in Chiefs who appreciated the finer things in life, you know like a spicy bowl of chili.
And although we can’t all agree on politics in general, it’s nice to know we can’t judge a man’s taste in spicy food, especially when he likes a jalapeño cheeseburger!
George W. Bush: His favorite meal on Sunday mornings was Huevos Rancheros with spicy chilies. He would eat this before church and then more times than not have it again for lunch. It was no secret that Bill Clinton was a “foodie” his days in the White House. Even when he was the Governor of Arkansas his favorite food was a juicy jalapeño cheeseburger. His favorite foods while President kept with the spicy theme and included enchiladas, tacos, and tamales.Jimmy Carter brought his Southern love of comfort food to the White House. On many occasions, the Carters would have regular weekend barbecues and serve one of their favorite dishes - spicy spare ribs!Richard Nixon had a thing for cottage cheese, but when he needed a little spice, he put that aside for a Spicy Pepperoni Salad which he would enjoy for lunch at the White House.Lyndon B. Johnson’s wife Lady Bird was quite the cook and she loved cooking her favorite southern dishes for her husband. One of his favorite dishes was Pedernales River Chili which called for tons of spicy ingredients including “5 shakes of hot sauce”.
Woodrow Wilson favored his wife’s spicy “Hot Peppered Nuts” which were basically pecans roasted over an iron skillet with a generous amount of cayenne pepper added.William Howard Taft was also into spicy nuts, but his weakness was almonds that were salted and cooked in butter and cayenne.Benjamin Harrison was probably a man ahead of his time. A true “foodie” who liked his macaroni and cheese super creamy and cheesy just like the rest of us. Also, he loved his mac n’ cheese spicy. He told his wife to put all the hot spices she could in the dish before serving it.Both James Polk and Zachary Taylor enjoyed Creole Cuisine from New Orleans and favored the hearty and rich spicy soups like gumbo.Barack Obama is probably the President who most enjoyed the spice of life. In a famous tweet he crafted towards the New York Times, he mentioned that guacamole is not guacamole without adding peas and hot red peppers. The Obamas also enjoyed spicy chili that can “clear your sinuses”.

Some like it hot and some like it all wrinkly and dried out - okay we’re talking about chilies here.
Dried chilies are what give the smoky all-around tempting flavor to Mexican and Southwestern dishes. Add them to mole sauces, salsas, stuff them whole or blend them to turn then into their own unique sauces. It’s the magic of dried chilies!
Just because the chili is not fresh from the farm it doesn’t mean they aren’t just as potent.
Dried chilies range from mild to extra hot just like farm-fresh chilies and contain all the same health benefits too. A lot of health benefits like the ones below:

Fights inflammation
Natural Pain Relief
Healthy Heart Benefits
Clears Congestion
Boosts Immunity
Can help prevent Prostate Cancer
Can help prevent Stomach Ulcers
Can aid in weight loss
Lowers risk of diabetes

There are many different dried chilies to incorporate into your cooking. Here are just some that may heat up your at-home dinner meals.

//
Ancho Chiles: the most popular dried chili in Mexican cuisine and its heat factor can range from mild to hot. It has a deep red color and is great to use in sauces
Cascabel: also means rattlesnake. Its unique round shape makes a rattling sound when shook (it’s the seed itching to come out of their shell!) which gives it its literal name. Its flavor is rich and earthy and great for home-cooked rustic meals.
Chipotle: is a versatile chili that can be cooked or stuffed. It’s basically a jalapeño that has been dried in smoke. It’s really hot but tastes great in dishes with its smoky, subtle fruity flavor. This chili is most popular in the United States and seems to be trending in all food categories like bread, hamburgers, sauces, and salads.
De Arbol: Some may call this the Heidi Klum of chili peppers. The De Arbol chili is long and skinny with smooth skin and really, really hot. This chili is great to grind into powder after being toasted and used in refried beans. Yum!
Guajillo: this chili has a sharp, pungent flavor that can range from ‘sorta hot’ to ‘wow! but still bearable hot’. Its skin is tough and has a red-purple tone. The best way to use Guajillo chilies is to grind them into powder and use them to rub on meat dishes.
Don’t forget to keep your dried chilies “fresh” by storing them in an airtight container in your cupboard - or even in the freezer. This keeps any unwanted bugs out. You can keep them for up to a year, but 3-6 months will prove the best flavors!

Top 5 Hot Sauce Festivals in the U.S.

Chili Pepper News
<sr:tags>hot sauce festivals</sr:tags>
David Ashley

<sr:image>https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0363/5131/1916/articles/top-5-hot-sauce-festivals-in-the-us-711960.jpg?v=1590598583</sr:image>

Oh, it’s so hard being basic - like getting to Starbucks the first day they release the Pumpkin Spice Latte is so exhausting.
Also putting hot sauce on nachos and tacos as they told us in “Being a Basic Human” school.
Stop being Basic! Why we as humans may have a long way to go to divert from conformity, take baby steps and try dousing hot sauce on some of your favorite foods - you know the foods you would never think to put hot sauce on.
Here are some ideas to help you live a more fulfilled life:
Salads - while this isn’t too crazy, it’s just enough to make someone take a double-take at the salad bar and think “wow, that person is a little out there” … but not too out there. If you are a little nervous, try mixing it in with your salad dressing. Baby steps, people!Bagel with Cream Cheese - turn this innocent pairing into a crime scene by splattering hot sauce all over it.Cottage Cheese - maybe the majority of the world would like this stuff if it had a huge heaping of hot sauce on it.Peanut Butter and Celery - yep we just kicked that boring after-school-but-now-I’m-a-grown up-and-still-eat-this-crap snack up a notch or two!Grilled Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwich - um, no comment, just try this masterpiece. Beer - because you’re basically adding hot sauce on wheat bread and it’s deliciousOatmeal - this mushy breakfast needs to dance on the dark side and hot sauce is just the evil best friend to show it their badass moves.Apples - An apple a day keeps the doctor away AND if you add hot sauce on these apples you might get a date with the doctor too!Hot Chocolate - yes you’re a wuss if you drink Hot Chocolate plain - hello, you’re not 8 years old anymore! BUT…if you add a dash of habanero sauce then you just became NOT BASIC! Congratulations on your achievement.
We’ve given you some great advice on pushing the limit of your hot sauce game. Soon you’ll be sprinkling ghost pepper sauce on your ice cream and skydiving out of airplanes wearing just your smile - you insanely un-basic person you.

Spicy foods have become a welcoming staple in many diets around the globe.
With different flavors infusing a myriad of spices, hot sauce is quite the chameleon when it comes to how it is produced around the world. One thing can be sure we share with the rest of the world -the hotter the better!
Mexico does have some authentic spicy dishes, but unlike other parts of the world, their hot sauce is created based more on flavor than on heat.
The chipotle pepper is a common pepper used in hot sauces in Mexico and boasts an intense and rich flavor for such foods as Chicken Tinga. The United Kingdom has a reputation for bland, boring food, but surprisingly the UK is home to two of the hottest chili peppers in the world - the Naga Viper and the Infinity chili. This makes for the production of some of the hottest hot sauces in the world, keeping their notoriously flavorless foods hot and exciting!Sipping pretty cocktails by the ocean in the Caribbean may taste better while noshing on some of their native fare like Jamaican Jerk Chicken. Habanero and Scotch Bonnet (sweet-flavored pepper) are the most widely used peppers in the Caribbean which can make for some pretty spicy hot sauce.Thailand is home to the infamous Sriracha sauce. Most dishes in Thailand tend to use the actual red chili pepper, but when it comes to the hot sauce they prefer a sweet chili sauce used for dipping. In China, hot sauce is more like a hot chili paste, but also the Chinese incorporate chili oil into most of their meals which is made from dried chilis.Africa is a large continent that is diverse especially when it comes to hot sauce. A more commonly used hot sauce is called Harissa which is made from not only red birds eye chili peppers but a wide variety of fragrant spices like cumin and coriander. In America, hot sauces are bottled in a wide variety of flavors, but the most common peppers used are cayenne, chipotle, habanero, and jalapeño peppers. For a quintessential American hot sauce try Mad Dog 357 Sriracha Hot Sauce made with Red Jalapeño puree, aged Cayenne peppers, distilled vinegar, salt, natural sugar, Carolina Reaper peppers and garlic.

Got chilies growing in your garden?
There’s a good chance you should prepare to harvest those beauties soon. And that means you’ll need to know how you’re going to make your chili peppers last throughout the winter.
There are plenty of ways to preserve your peppers, such as oven drying, freezing, and canning. Each one comes with its own pros and cons, not to mention the amount of effort you need to invest
It’s easy to choose the fastest, easiest route from the garden to storage, but you may want to hold your horses this year. Why not try roasting your peppers before wrapping them up for the season?
Roasting Transforms the Flavor of Your Fiery Peppers
There’s a false rumor flying about that roasting peppers will reduce their heat levels.
It’s simply not true. One thing that you could do to reduce the sensation of heat in your roasted chili peppers is to halve them and remove the seeds before popping them in the oven. That’s not actually where the hot stuff is held, but it will help.
Roasting will transform the taste of your peppers, however. It will give them a smoky, sweet flavor. It helps to bring out the natural sugars found in the fruit of your freshly-grown chili peppers. Regardless of the peppers, roasting produces a brilliant flavor, and it’s definitely worth trying (at least once).
The process also transforms the texture of your peppers. Not only do they become softer (which makes them easier to enjoy with certain meals), but the skin will become papery and flake off which is a bonus for those that want to dispense with the outer layer.
How Do You Roast Chili Peppers
You can “roast” chili peppers in a frying pan on the stovetop, but it’s much easier to do it properly in the oven – especially if you have a lot of peppers to get through.
Heat the oven to broil and place all your peppers on a lined (and lightly oiled) baking sheet. Broil for about 10 or 15 minutes until the skins on top are blackened. Then, flip all the peppers and roast for another 10 minutes until the other side is crisp. (You may need a little less time than 10 minutes, so keep an eye on them.) Remove from the oven and set aside.
When the peppers are cool enough to peel, don some gloves and get busy doing just that. And, from there, you can freeze or prepare your chili peppers for the long winter months as you please. (We definitely recommend canning a few… if you have the right utensils to do so.
And now, isn’t it time you headed out to the garden to harvest your chilies?
That’s what we thought.

There are chili peppers and then there are super hot peppers that will feel more as if they are biting your face off than the other way around.
Anyone that’s ever tried more than one fresh chili knows the difference.
And, if you’re maniac enough to eat 22 Reapers in 60 seconds (yes, that’s happened), you really are able to spot the difference between a Jalapeño and super hot pepper.
While fast-food joints muck around with Habanero sauces, there’s an undercurrent of fire taking over the chili industry across the world. (We may even have to give props to Wendy’s for breaking out of the ordinary on this one.)
Super Hot Peppers Have Suddenly Become Available
The United States doesn’t have exclusivity on the super hot pepper market, but we’re certainly leading the revolution for countries that don’t already have a spicy food culture. With the market size that we have, it’s just easier to bring hotter peppers to the table; there are enough people to develop a demand.
Smaller countries don’t have that luxury, but it hasn’t stopped them from bringing super hot peppers to the market when they can. Countries like South Africa and Australia have developed thriving chili scenes and are growing extraordinary peppers. Specialty stores and online businesses are beginning to take the super hot message to the public.
In some countries, super-hot peppers are beginning to hit the mainstream. Take a look at the release of the Reaper to the British and Irish through the mass retailer, Tesco. Before the pepper was even put on the shelves, people were causing a fuss. Concerned groups tried to lobby Tesco to halt the sale of these peppers claiming they’re a health hazard. Meanwhile, chili heads counted the days like kids at Christmas, just waiting for their first shot at a sliver of Reaper.
At least, it should be a sliver that most people try (and certainly not 22 in a minute) because these peppers are damn hot. And, Tesco was counting on people to exercise their judgment. Though, to be fair, most people just don’t have the judgment that they think they have. And it’s mind-bending easy to convince someone to go against their better judgment.
In any case, people rushed to Tesco’s when they knew they would be able to pick up a pack of peppers, and then they rushed home to create videos of them eating entire peppers – not the Tesco-recommended sliver.
Getting It on Camera Is (Always) the Best Idea
James Ware was one such Tesco shopper. Though he has a vlog on YouTube, this appears to be the first time he’s ever tried anything close to a Reaper and perhaps he’s never tried any super-hot peppers. (We think that’s because they’ve taken a while to reach the isles across the Atlantic.)
His comments are perhaps the most hysterical ever uttered under the influence of a Reaper (which makes us believe he must be incredibly eloquent most of the time). More importantly, his willingness to try the world’s hottest pepper just shows how quickly super-hot peppers are spreading across the world. Soon, it may be normal to stumble on ridiculously hot peppers every time you leave the house.
Wouldn’t that be nice?

There are some things that people just go crazy over like chocolate or chilies.
You know what we mean; some people just have a glimmer in their eyes when they even think about these foods. Of course, chili and chocolate aren’t the only ones; you’ll find people that flip for cheese or hamburgers or wine. You can make a few good pairs out of those and in rare instances, you may even be able to mix all three together for an incredible evening.
But, chili and chocolate are natural bedfellows. And, they have been since both were linked to, well, bed. Both were believed to be aphrodisiacs – and they are.
Natural Aphrodisiacs
Chili peppers increase blood flow and trigger the release of serotonin in the brain; it can truly feel like a turn on, though it’s unlikely until you add the element of someone you’re attracted to. Chocolate, too, works to release serotonin in the brain. And, it also has something that works like an amphetamine of the natural variety. It makes you feel a little as if you’re falling in love.
Don’t make the mistake of assuming chili peppers are better for him while she will swoon over the chocolate. It doesn’t work like that.
And, indeed, chili and chocolate may just be better when they’re paired together.
Think about that outside of a sexual context. The natural sweetness of chocolate blends ever so well with the sharp heat of chili peppers. That’s why you’ll find chocolate bars brimming with chilies and why traditional Mexican hot chocolate calls for a pinch of chili powder.
More than Just a Pairing
With the success of chili and chocolate pairings, it shouldn’t be a surprise that horticulturalists wanted to do more to combine the two aphrodisiacs together more permanently.
And they have.
There are now chocolate peppers. Chocolate bell peppers offer a sweeter flavor that becomes addictive quite quickly, but there isn’t a lot of capsaicin tucked inside. Hotter chocolate peppers are more likely to fulfill the cravings of serious chili heads.
You can find Chocolate Habaneros if you look for them, and we’ve done even better than that. The flavor of our Chocolate Ghost Pepper is inescapable; so is its heat.
What does chocolate mean when found in the name of any chili pepper? Normally, you’ll get a hint of earthy smokiness in every bite. But, it’s more about drawing out the fruity flavors of the chili with the sweetness associated with chocolate. Let’s be honest; it’s incredible.
And yes, we’d say the Chocolate Ghost Pepper is as much an aphrodisiac as you would expect. And that’s not a bad side effect for any chili and chocolate pairing.

Peppers are delicious.
They’re filled with health benefits. They boost your metabolism and add a kick to your meals. They’re colorful, and you can prepare them in such crazy ways. And, let’s face it there are ever so many varieties, from jalapeños to reapers.
But, for f***s sake, stop smoking them.
Chili peppers are not meant for smoking. (Though smoked peppers are delicious.)
Seriously. Don’t smoke jalapeños in a bong or vape reapers. It’s a dumb idea.
People Smoke Reapers?
A few months ago, we stumbled on one guy, Russell Hawkins, who gave his YouTube viewers a wonderful treat. He began by vaping reapers; then, he snorted some reaper pepper. And, just to be on the safe side, he dabbed a little of that powder in his eye.
We’re not even worried about how clean his hands were at that point.
Any of those activities is ridiculous.
And, may we put it out there… If, after vaping reapers, your lungs feel like they’re on fire, don’t go back for another hit. Just don’t.
This single video should have been enough to halt any other activities of this sort. But, apparently, Ted Barrus didn’t do his research.
One of his YouTube videos features himself smoking reapers from a bong. Now, he does preface his work by calling himself “The Fire-Breathing Idiot.” So, we do need to give him some credit for being smart enough to know how dumb he’s being. But, all the same, he decides it’s not a bad idea to take bong hits of reapers.
After chugging some water (clearly, he hasn’t done any research), he vomits. And then? He advises no one to try the same stunt.
That’s the advice he should have followed himself. Smoking reapers is not an endeavor anyone should undertake. No one. And, we don’t know how many times we need to say it. Stop smoking reapers!
But Chilies Inhibit Lung Cancers
There is some research out there at the moment that the capsaicin in chili peppers may stave off the development of lung cancer. Yep; lab tests have demonstrated that this miracle compound is potentially able to stop cancer before it even begins in the body.
But, these tests have demonstrated this potential when capsaicin is ingested. And, thus far, it’s only been tested in lab animals. The jury is still out on this one (though it does look like capsaicin is able to battle a couple of different cancers, including that oh-so-scary prostate one).
And, even if it was proven that smoking capsaicin did prevent lung cancer, it’s the sort of thing you should attempt under the supervision of a doctor. And they would probably not recommend bonging or vaping reapers. It’s clearly not safe.
So, please, for f***s sake… stop smoking reapers!

//

Reaper Chips Breaking the Internet

Chili Pepper News
<sr:tags>chip, chips, reaper</sr:tags>
Bill Moore

<sr:image>https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0363/5131/1916/articles/reaper-chips-breaking-the-internet-893603.jpg?v=1587649872</sr:image>

The internet is a funny, funny thing.
It’s transformed everything over the past few decades – research, connections with high school friends, and an endless stream of shit to buy or obsess over.
And, you never know what’s going to become a sensation. While few things are as powerful as Kim Kardashian’s ass, you’ll find that rainbow highlighter makeup and Carolina Reapers tend to hold a lot more weight than the cute kitten videos it’s impossible to escape.
It makes sense then, that a single chip (yes, like a tortilla chip) can cause such a stir. The latest release from Paqui tortilla chips is doing just that.
In every packet, you’ll find a single Carolina Reaper Madness Chip. A single chip.
The theory is that you won’t need any more than that. It’s so damn hot that one chip will blow your mind. And, let’s face it, that amount of capsaicin is enough to stave off hunger for hours.
Rather than marketing this chip as a challenge or something that will explode your face, perhaps it should be rebranded as a diet chip. Grab a few packs, tuck them into your desk drawer (the one that locks), and you’ll never feel the need to run out for fast food or treat the office to a pizza because you’re so freaking hungry you can’t think.
What’s Inside?
As you open the red and white box covered with the warnings you would find on any bottle of decent hot sauce, you’ll reveal a strange-looking chip packet. More than anything, it looks like an interesting condom wrapper.
Really, it’s the sort of thing you might accidentally reach for in the drawer of dirty toys. (Warning, you never want to go down on your partner after consuming copious amounts of capsaicin. Well, check with them first… we don’t have any idea what you’re into.)
As you open the packet that resembles a condom, you’ll want to exercise caution. In addition to Reaper powder, you’ll find Ghost Pepper and Chipotle seasoning. If you get these peppers on your hands and forget to wash them before using the bathroom, you’ll be in a sorry state for a long time. And, it’s a little difficult to sit in a bowl of milk while trying to prove to your friends that you’re the coolest thing to walk the planet.
Of course you’re going to give these chips this chip a try. As a chili head, you have no choice. And then, may we suggest trying better ways to enjoy the flavor of Reapers, such as the Mad Dog 357 Reaper Sriracha Hot Sauce or by tossing a silver of our Reaper Pepper Pods into your next batch of chili? The statement overheard at a food market went something like this…
He brought the hot and the extra hot chili sauce. There’s also an extreme sauce made with habaneros. I don’t know why he didn’t bring that; there are always people at these sorts of things that want to blow their face-off.
Who knew that people still considered habaneros hot? We sure didn’t. There are much hotter chili peppers out there. If a fast-food chain sells something called Ghost Pepper Fries, you get the feeling that habaneros are just, well habaneros. They’re not explosive. They’re not violently hot.
They’re the sort of peppers that serious chili heads make fun of… a little.
How Hot Are Habaneros?
Before we get into the actual heat of your standard, run-of-the-mill habanero pepper, we need to let you know that there isn’t just one kind out there.
Habaneros are more of a family of chilies. In that’s family, you’ll find Peruvian white and mustard habanero peppers, along with the granddaddy of them all, the red savina habanero. The latter is a hell of a lot hotter than its family members.
The gentler sounding chilies in this family have Scoville ratings around 300,000. That’s not bad. The average habanero (you know, the habanero that you’ve grown to know and trust) can sit as high as 350,000 Scovilles.
And that red savina? It may reach as high as 580,000.
Any of those chilies would indeed blow the head off anyone not accustomed to their heat levels. We need to put an extreme caution on our Mad Dog 357 Hot Sauce and that is 357,000 Scoville.
Why Aren’t Habaneros Fashionable Any Longer?
Okay, we’ve established that these peppers can indeed be damned hot… and we probably shouldn’t be making fun of them.
But it doesn’t stop the smirks from chili heads in food markets when people say things like this habanero sauce will blow your face off.
Why?
The heat of a habanero doesn’t even fall on the same radar as the hottest chili peppers out there. You have to multiply the heat of habaneros nearly six times before you get to reaper level. You’d still need to multiply it three times to reach the intensity of a ghost pepper.
That said, habaneros are almost 44 times hotter than jalapeños. And, you know there are those people that believe that’s the height of heat. We should be poking fun at them rather than habaneros; there’s much more to peppers than their intense burn. And, the lovely citrus flavor of habaneros makes them indispensable in hot sauces and cooking.
They’re delicious, and by all accounts, they’re not a weak pepper. Sure, you won’t find as many videos of people falling over from their fire. But, when you see people sampling habanero sauces at food markets, and their faces are as red and inflamed as their tongues, it can be totally worth it – whether they’re eating habaneros or something hotter.

Every Mad Dog hot sauce is different.
If you’re not able to discern that yourself, it’s likely that you’re not a chili head with the ability to taste the sauce behind the pain. As such, you shouldn’t even bother reading further, though we do suggest you start building your tolerance with a bottle of Mad Cat hot sauce as quickly as you can. From there, it’s just a hop, skip, and a jump to the first hot sauce on the list.

Timid, but willing
If you’re the sort of person who likes to know what they’re getting into… but doesn’t mind a bit of trouble here and there, you should give our Liquid Fire a try. It’s got a solid 40,000 Scovilles in every drop, which is still hot, but hardly outrageous. And, the Bird’s Eye Chilies inside are absolutely divine.

Classically sensible
If you’re more wrapped up with the drama of the royal family than the Kardashians and your favorite movie is in black and white, you are definitely going to fall in love with our Inferno hot sauce. Just shy of 90,000 Scovilles, this was the first to be declared the “World’s Hottest Hot Sauce.” So, you know, totally classic.
Organic baby
Are you the type of person that checks labels and orders your veggies fresh from the farm? (Or, at least, peruses the farmers' markets for a mix of products and stuffed olives…) If green is the way in your world, you’ll have to try the Pure Ghost. No extracts are added to give this hot sauce its heat; it’s all pure, just for you.
A Buddhist’s balance
Not everyone can handle extremes, heat, or otherwise. When you need to take the middle path, you’re going to need our Scorpion hot sauce. It’s undeniably hot with its 100,000 Scovilles, but it’s perfectly balanced and nowhere near as overpowering as the super sauces. Don’t think of the scorpion’s sting, just its balanced burn.

Wild child
Always up for a good time? Need to see new places and try new foods? Want to live a life that extends beyond the ordinary? The Reaper Sriracha is the right hot sauce for you. The incredible garlicky flavor of this sauce will pull you in one direction, while the heat from the Reapers will take you in another. You’ll end up doing both before you call it a night.
Perfectionist
When you want to get it right every time, opt for the hot sauce that was right the first time. The original Mad Dog 357 is more than a jumping-off point; it’s perfection in a bottle, and you’ll savor every drop of the 357,000 Scovilles inside. It’s that good.
Nothing but the best
When you have to have the very best in life, and nothing less will do, you’d better pick up a bottle of the Mad Dog Silver or Mad Dog Gold hot sauces. These collector’s editions are the definition of gorgeous heat. And once you have the best, there’s no way of turning back, is there?
So, which hot sauce are you? And which one do you want to be?

Restaurants across the globe are picking up on spicier menu items.
Once the domain of Mexican, Thai, and Indian restaurants, you’ll find something on just about every menu to please chili heads (or pyro-gourmaniacs, if you prefer).
We’re not talking about average fast-food meals either – or your favorite neighborhood wing joint. Higher-end restaurants are putting down what fire-eaters are picking up (and shoveling in their mouths).
But, each chef turns to a different source of heat to spice up their menus. Sure, you’ll find a few faves that are repeated time and time again. Diners can’t get enough of the garlicky flavor found in sriracha sauces and the Calabrian and Aleppo chili peppers are fast favorites in American kitchens.
So where do chefs turn when they want to crank up the heat?
Fresh and Dried Chilies
Chefs looking to add heat and a lot of pepper flavor almost always reach for chilies. It’s the best option across the board. It doesn’t matter which pepper you turn towards, fresh or dried chilies are always good.
Fresh chilies are a favorite simply because they add color and texture along with the heat and flavor. And, it’s easy to up the heat either with new chilies or by adding a few extra peppers. Dried peppers carry the same benefits – they just last longer. Of course, every prep chef knows that it’s crucial to wear gloves when dealing with either.
Hot Sauces and Extracts
Hot sauces aren’t just mashed chilies. Other ingredients are added to make the sauce work on its own and last longer. Extracts, on the other hand, are pure capsaicin and they’re added for heat alone.
When it comes to hot sauces, the flavor of the ingredients already blended should work with everything else going into the dish. It’s hardly a limiting factor, however. As each and every hot sauce is different, it’s entirely possible to use a particular hot sauce as a base – rather than an additive.
That said, extracts in meals are used to frighten the people sitting at the table.
Pastes and Mashes
There’s a new push in restaurants from chefs to create more pastes and mashes. As you can imagine, these cut down on prep time while still adding the fire that comes from fresh chilies. Because other ingredients can be added to maintain the mashy, mushy texture they can be used as a base as well as an additive. And yet, one of the biggest reasons to turn towards chili pastes is that it’s super easy to blend different chilies together without chopping each pepper individually.
But, what chefs do and what home cooks do are very different things. (It’s all those lovely prep cooks and an almost steady stream of fresh ingredients, not because home cooks can’t prepare stunning meals.) So where should you turn to kick up the heat in your kitchen? It all depends on what you’re after… and how hot your family likes it.
