Iam really impressed about the new Ubuntu 10.04. Installing Ubuntu Linux in my HP nx7300 laptop was a really thrilling challenge for me. I did it by myself and im using Ubuntu for my developing purposes (esp Rails).

As im active in Twitter and i used TweetDeck in Windows 7, i was struggling to find an application that work same like as TweetDeck.. With little bit googling i find a perfect solution to install TweetDeck to Ubuntu Linux. So im preferring to share with my readers through my blog.

Installing Ruby On Rails on Debian/Ubuntu

After some experience in developing RubyOnRails applications in windows, i came to know that the best environment for rails development is Linux. So i choose to have the Debian version Ubuntu 10.04.

Today i'm going to show you guys how to install Ruby on Rails in Ubuntu 10.04. This can be applied to lower versions also.

With this article I want to explain how you can plan and build a Social Networking Website using Drupal. The intent of the post is to provide useful tips and informations to understand the issues behind the building of a working on-line community. This writing was inspired by the reading of two interesting books, Community Building on the Web: Secret Strategies for Succesfull On-line Community and Drupal 6 – Social Networking. It’s clear that in a post I can provide only some useful cues to make a well-done work. Setting up Rails Environment on Windows Vista/XP

Couple months back when I just started programming on Ruby on Rails, I faced so many problems regarding the configuration and all, in my developing machine Vista. I searched so many resources online but didn’t find a suitable one. Now I managed to resolve that problem. So, I would like to share the knowledge to you on how to setup Rails on Windows platform, using Ruby gems, Rails, Mongrel, and MySQL as a part of the stack. I am using windows Vista for my development process, but all the instructions will work in the Windows Xp
too.

1. Installing Ruby: Download and install the latest version of Ruby Installer (currently 1.8.6-27 RC2) from the rubyforge.org website: One-Click Ruby Installer. Leave all the default settings during installations as such. Its important that you install in the ruby path without any spaces in it. (Like C:/Ruby by default).

After the installation go to the command prompt in the system (Start –> Accessories -> Command Prompt), and type the following command:

C:\Users\Mikx>ruby -v ruby 1.8.6 (2008-08-11 patchlevel 287) [i386-mswin32]

2. Updating Ruby Gems: The above installer also install Gems package via the one-click Installation process. May be the Gem installed will be outdate, so in order to avoid such errors, we should update the Gem package. To do so enter the following commands in the command-line:

C:\ Users\Mikx> gem update ––system C:\Users\Mikx>gem -v 1.3.3

3. Installing Rails: Now its the time to install Rails package. Run the following commands to install Rails package as Ruby Gems.

C:\> gem install rails C:\Users\Mikx> rails -v Rails 2.3.2

In future if you want to upgrade the Rails Gem, just simply run the following commands

C:\Users\Mikx> gem update rails

The basic Rails environment is now installed on your system, and you can skip the following part if you are happy with WEBrick as the web server, SQLite as the database server.

The remaining part of the post covers an alternate Web Server called Mongrel, and MySQL Database.

4. Installing Mongrel: Another most recommended Web Server for Rails development and also for production Server is Mongrel . To install Mongrel Web Server, run the following commands:

C:\Users\Mikx> gem install mongrel C:\Users\Mikx> gem list mongrel *** LOCAL GEMS *** mongrel (1.1.5)

After installing Mongrel, Rails automatically starts the Mongrel instead of WEBrick web server when you run the Rails applications in development mode.

Download and install the MySQL 5.1 database server. You can safely accept all the default settings of the installation wizard. After MySQL database server is installed, you need to run its configuration wizard to configure the MySQL installation.

One important step during the configuration process is to select a root password(you will need to enter it in the database.yml configuration file of your Rails application).

Now download and install the MySQL GUI tools.

Now you can create/checkout rails applications, edit them and run them under Mongrel.

The New Post Editor for Blogger

Now the blogger is equipped with new Post Editor, which has enhanced feature than the previous post editors.

How to enable the new editor

To enable the new editor, first navigate to your blog's Settings | Basic tab. Near the bottom of the page you will see a field called Select Post Editor, and from there you simply need to select Updated Editor and save your settings. That's it! Now on to the new features.

Improved Image Handling

When you upload an image to the new post editor it will appear as a thumbnail in the image dialog box. That way, you can upload several images at once, and then add them into your post at your convenience. The thumbnails will be available until you close the post editor.
When you add an image from the dialog into your post it will be placed at the insertion point instead of at the top of the post.
If you don’t like where an image is in your post, you can drag it around to another spot. If you drag it towards the left side of the editor it will float to the left, likewise for the right, and if you leave it in the center it will be centered.

You can easily resize or remove an image with the image size “bubble.” Click on the image (Firefox 3 users may need to double-click) to bring up the bubble, and resize the image instantly

Improved Raw HTML

If you use Edit HTML, especially to add tables and other advanced HTML to your posts, you should find that the new editor has a number of enhancements to make the experience less frustrating, or, dare we say it, even pleasant.
By default, the current post editor replaces any newlines in your post with
tags. This can cause problems when you want to use newlines to make table or list HTML clearer, since the inserted
s will mangle the formatting significantly. The new post editor does not introduce
s within tables, lists, scripts, styles, preformatted blocks, or objects.
Since they won’t destroy the formatting, the new post editor adds clarity newlines to the HTML that’s generated by Compose mode.

For posts made with the new editor, the blog-level “Convert line breaks” setting (from Settings | Formatting) is ignored. Instead, newline behavior is controlled by an Edit HTML setting under “Post Options,” which affects how newlines and
tags are displayed in the Edit HTML editor.
