Air Products Named Outstanding Service Provider to China Chemical Parks

Air Products (NYSE: APD), a world-leading industrial gases company, has been named an Outstanding Service Provider to China Chemical Parks by the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation (CPCIF) in recognition of the company’s proven record in supplying domestic chemical parks. As announced yesterday in Wuhan at the 2016 China Chemical Industry and Chemical Park Forum, which over 750 industry government officials and leading companies attended to exchange ideas on the future of China’s chemical parks and chemical industry, Air Products is the only industrial gases provider among the 10 companies who won this award.

Organized by CPCIF, a non-profit government thinktank for the industry’s management, the award recognizes companies who provide excellent services to chemical parks and are competitive in areas including safety records and environmental performance. Endorsement by chemical parks is a key selection factor.

Air Products has been supporting the global petrochemical industry for over 70 years, serving in roles from chemical park gases supply advisor to investor to operator. The company has abundant experience in building and operating large gas supply pipeline networks safely to serve multiple customers. It is now running the world’s largest pipeline network along the U.S. Gulf Coast. In January 2016, the company signed a framework agreement with Dalian Xizhong Island Petrochemical Park, one of China’s seven refinery and petrochemical bases, to become the sole industrial gases supplier for companies in the park.

At the Wuhan Forum, Air Products shared its insights and global experience in chemical park infrastructure. Fabrica de Perafita abriu-se aos funcionários e familiares para visitas, experiências, demonstrações, festa com bolo de aniversário e outras surpresas

Gasin quer continuar fazer parte da recuperação económica portuguesa

A Gasin, empresa de referência no sector dos gases industriais e hospitalares em Portugal deu início, este fim de semana, às comemorações dos 50 anos de actividade no território que se vão prolongar ao longo de 2016 e envolver trabalhadores, clientes, stakeldores nacionais e as comunidades locais onde está inserida.

Raramente abertas ao exterior, as instalações da Gasin receberam este sábado mais de 150 funcionários e familiares para uma festa e um dia diferente. Ao longo da tarde, sobretudo os mais pequenos, conheceram as instalações, os produtos ali produzidos e o estado em que são produzidos, realizaram experiências e participaram numa festa que terminou com uma largada de balões com hélio e com bolo de aniversário.

Até final do ano estão programadas múltiplas iniciativas de comemoração, entre elas, um evento solidário que vai envolver de novo os funcionários e que no final terá como beneficiário a comunidade local.

Air Products Will Exit Energy-from-Waste Business

Air Products (NYSE: APD) has announced that the Company will exit its Energy-from-Waste (EfW) business. As a result, the EfW business segment will be accounted for as a discontinued operation effective in the Company’s second fiscal quarter. Also in the second quarter, Air Products expects to record a pre-tax charge in the range of $900 million to $1.0 billion in discontinued operations, primarily to write down assets associated with the EfW business to their realizable value.

In previous public comments, Air Products’ management has communicated the challenges with the Tees Valley, UK projects. Testing and analysis completed during the Company’s fiscal second quarter indicated that additional design and operational challenges would require significant time and cost to rectify. Consequently, the Board of Directors has decided that it is no longer in the best interest of the Company and its shareholders to continue the Tees Valley projects. Air Products will work to optimize the cash value of its investments. Exiting the EfW business will allow the Company to direct its resources to its core business of Industrial Gases.

The Board of Director’s decision to exit EfW is expected to have the following impacts on the Company’s financial reporting and metrics:

On a historical basis, the impact of moving the EfW segment to discontinued operations will increase EPS from continuing operations by about 3 to 4 cents for FY14 and FY15, as there was a small operating loss reported in the EfW segment.
The EfW asset write-down is expected to result in an increase in the Company’s Return on Capital Employed (ROCE) from continuing operations by approximately 80 basis points, driven by removing the asset value from the denominator in this calculation.
A modest future cash tax benefit is expected from the write-off.
Additional details on these financial impacts will be available with the Company’s fiscal Q2FY16 earnings announcement on April 28.

Air Products Spin-off Company Versum Materials to Host Investor Teleconference on February 24

Air Products (NYSE:APD) Materials Technologies, the business that is planned to spin off as Versum Materials, will hold an introductory call for investors and analysts on Wednesday, 24 February, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. ET. Air Products Announces Intent to Spin-Off Materials Technologies Business

Air Products (NYSE: APD) today announced that its Board of Directors has approved the intention to fully separate its Materials Technologies business via a tax-free spin-off to its shareholders. The targeted completion of the Materials Technologies spin-off is before September 2016, subject to typical regulatory approvals. Air Products will hold a conference call on Thursday, September 17, 2015 at 8:00 a.m. ET to discuss the spin-off (details below).

The spin-off decision was made after an extensive review examining the strategic options for the Materials Technologies business by Air Products’ Board of Directors and management.

La nueva sede central se ubicará en el mismo edificio que desde 2007 ya ocupa el Centro de Servicios del grupo Air Products para Europa

Carburos Metálicos, filial en España del grupo multinacional Air Products, ha anunciado hoy que a principios de agosto trasladará su sede al Parque Empresarial Arboretum de Cornellà de Llobregat.

La compañía cambia su sede de la calle Aragó, donde ha estado radicada durante los últimos 20 años y donde emplea a 200 personas, a un espacio más amplio, moderno y sostenible, donde además compartirá ubicación con las instalaciones del Centro de Servicios Compartidos para Europa, que el grupo Air Products ya inauguró en 2007 y en el que a día de hoy trabajan 400 personas.

Con este traslado, la compañía da un paso más en su compromiso con la creación de entornos de trabajo más sostenibles, en línea con la importancia que la sostenibilidad tiene para el grupo. Además, con la nueva ubicación Carburos Metálicos mejorará sus conexiones internacionales, ya que estará situada muy próxima al aeropuerto, lo que operativamente repercutirá de forma positiva en la filial española dentro del grupo Air Products. A nivel nacional, la ubicación permitirá una mayor interacción de la sede central de la compañía con el resto de los 400 empleados que Carburos Metálicos tiene repartidos en todo el territorio nacional, en sus plantas de producción y oficinas comerciales.

Air Products’ CEO Addresses Attack on Facility in France

Air Products (NYSE: APD) Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Seifi Ghasemi had words of sympathy for the victim of today’s attack at its facility in L'Isle-d'Abeau, France. He also expressed appreciation for the assistance and outpouring of support received from around the world, as the company continues to cooperate with the continuing investigation by French and other authorities.

“I am horrified and saddened by the attack on our facility in France. I believe I speak for all of our Air Products family around the world in expressing our deepest sympathies to the family of the victim of this unspeakable act,” said Ghasemi. “My heart also goes out to the people who work at the site and their families. This incident reinforces that we all need to take safety and security very seriously, every day, and remain vigilant in everything we do. I am very glad to know that all of our employees are safe and accounted for.”

Security has been increased at Air Products’ locations around the world as a precautionary measure.

Soon after the attack, French authorities and emergency services arrived on site, contained the situation, and the site was secured. All individuals working at the site were evacuated. Air Products’ crisis and emergency response teams were activated and are working closely with involved authorities.

“I would like to express my appreciation for the response of the French and other authorities who reacted so quickly to our need. I would also like to express my deepest gratitude to other companies, customers, elected officials, and many other citizens of the world who have reached out to Air Products with kind words, well wishes, and offers of assistance,” Ghasemi said.

It is unclear at this time the extent of damage to the facility. However, Ghasemi said other facilities are operating normally, and plans are in place for Air Products’ customers who received products from the impacted location to continue to be served.

Air Products (NYSE: APD) today announced the appointment of its Industrial Gases China President Saw Choon Seong by the People’s Government of Shaanxi Province as International Senior Economic Consultant. Saw received the Letter of Appointment at the Eighth Session of the International Senior Economic Consultative Conference of the People’s Government of Shaanxi Province in Xi’an city on June 25, 2015.

At the conference, Saw shared his insights in how Shaanxi can draw on Air Products’ innovation and safety expertise to thrive on the process of reform and opening up under the “One Belt One Road” Strategy.

Air Products Appoints Marie Ffolkes as President, Industrial Gases-Americas

Air Products (NYSE: APD) announced today that Marie Ffolkes has been appointed to the position of President, Industrial Gases–Americas, effective May 18, 2015. Ffolkes comes to Air Products with 20 years of manufacturing experience and has held senior executive positions with advancing responsibilities at several companies during that time. Ffolkes will report to Corning Painter, executive vice president–Industrial Gases, who held the new position on an interim basis until an appointment was made.

Prior to Tenneco, she was with Johnson Controls, Inc. as vice president and general manager for its South American Region’s Automotive Group based in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Air Products Appoints Kim Kyo-Yung to Succeed Lee Soo-Yon as Korea President

Air Products (NYSE:APD) today announced that Lee Soo-Yon, its vice chairman and former president for Korea, had retired as of 31 January 2015. Kim Kyo-Yung, current Korea president since 1 October 2014, is leading the Industrial Gases business in the country. Kim also continues to oversee some ongoing projects in Xi’an High Tech Zone (XHTZ), Shaanxi Province, western China for a Korea electronics customer.

Kim joined Air Products in Korea in 1991 and has held several regional and global positions across the commercial and marketing functions in the Electronics Division. He was based in Taipei, Taiwan, serving as global director for Electronics Tonnage business from 2008 to 2014. Before assuming his current position, Kim was global director for Process Materials and Delivery Systems in the Electronics Division.

Air Products (NYSE:APD) today announced its site in the Xi’an High-tech Zone (XHTZ), Shaanxi Province, China, recently celebrated being brought fully onstream to supply bulk gases to Samsung Electronics’ advanced semiconductor fabs, which represent one of Samsung’s largest overseas investments and the most advanced fabs in China. Air Products facility had begun operations at XHTZ earlier this year.

The production facilities and associated infrastructure have been brought onstream on schedule with proven safety performance. It demonstrates Air Products’ world-leading expertise and experience in serving the semiconductor and electronics industries with safety, reliability and operational excellence.”

The 55,000-square-meter site currently houses two large air separation units and a hydrogen plant which supply ultra-high purity nitrogen and other bulk gases including oxygen, argon, hydrogen, helium and compressed dry air to Samsung Electronics’ Fab One. New bulk specialty gas and chemical delivery systems have also been constructed and are fully operational to serve the fab. More large air separation units will be built at the site to support future needs.

Air Products (NYSE:APD), a leading global industrial gases and materials technologies supplier and the School of Energy and Power Engineering of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) during their co-organized First Large Air Separation Technology and Industrial Gases Application Conference held in Xi’an, Shaanxi Province. The objective of the MoU is to accelerate technological breakthroughs and talent development in cryogenic industries to support western China’s economic growth. The signing of the MoU reinforces Air Products’ commitment to the country and dedication to revolutionizing the industry through innovation.

The MoU provides a framework of strategic collaboration between Air Products and XJTU on research and development in cryogenics, industrial gas and clean energy technologies; research funding applications; promoting knowledge exchange between the university and external market; and talent development through scholarships, student club and internships.

Co-organized by Air Products and XJTU, the Conference was solid proof of their commitment to collaborative efforts where technology leaders exchanged ideas, information and insights in gas applications. As an organizer, Air Products introduced its innovative and sustainable technologies on how to improve energy efficiency, reduce cost and realize sustainable development while driving productivity for air separation and cryogenic industries, as well as for downstream industries including chemicals, petrochemicals, pharmacy, metal fabrication and electronics assembly.

Air Products has been collaborating with XJTU since 2012 when it set up a scholarship program in the university to nurture top talents in cryogenics and welding engineering. Early this year, the two parties formed a joint team and kicked off a collaborative research project on modeling for plate-fin heat exchanger design in cryogenics. The phased report shows the project is running smoothly to yield results that will ultimately improve energy efficiency of a wide variety of applications in air separation and industries such as petrochemical, aerospace, refrigeration and air-conditioning.

“We are excited to strengthen our strategic partnership with such a recognized technology leader that has over 4,000 patents worldwide; was the first company of its kind to establish a R&D capability in China; and is operating several successful projects in Shaanxi to support western China development,” Professor Feng Zhenping of XJTU remarked. “Our previous collaborations have proven to be fruitful. Air Products’ (NYSE:APD) chairman, president and chief executive officer, Seifi Ghasemi, today announces a major company restructuring, with the goal of regaining industry leadership by providing excellent service to customers as the safest and most profitable industrial gas company in the world. Ghasemi says he has already met and communicated with thousands of Air Products’ employees who are ready for change and are committing to a new corporate culture in order to meet this objective.

“Today we are taking a major step to restructure for future success. Air Products had the industry leadership position 20 years ago and maintains leading market positions in key regions. We will regain that leadership position by first reorganizing our Industrial Gases segment on a geographic basis, and move to a decentralized, simpler, and more efficient structure which creates true profit and loss (P&L) accountability at many levels of the organization. The people at Air Products are ready to advance this great company, and I am excited by the significant opportunities in front of us,” says Ghasemi.

Segment Descriptions

Effective at the start of Air Products’ 2015 fiscal year (October 1, 2014), the company will realign into seven reporting segments (please refer to the summary table at the end of this release):

Industrial Gases will comprise four reporting segments and will include all Air Separation Units (ASUs), Hydrogen/HyCO plants (hydrogen, carbon monoxide and syngas), and the current Merchant Gases segment. Reflecting greater regional focus, over 95% of current Industrial Gases revenues will be contained in the geographic segments of Americas; Asia; and Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA).
Materials Technologies will include the Electronics Materials and Performance Materials businesses and will continue to operate as a global business.
Energy-from-Waste will include the two Tees Valley projects in the U.K.
A Corporate segment will include two global businesses (LNG and Helium containers) and corporate supporting functions.

To enable true P&L accountability, operations, distribution, and portions of other enabling functions will be integrated within Industrial Gases and Materials Technologies.

Air Products Recruiting for Its Second Renewable Energy Facility on Teeside

More than 50 new jobs are being advertised by Air Products for its Tees Valley Renewable Energy facility (Tees Valley 2), located in the New Energy and Technology Business Park, near Billingham, Teesside. The full-time and permanent jobs on offer at Tees Valley 2 include senior engineering roles, plant operation, maintenance and administrative positions.

Air Products is using a range of channels to advertise the positions including a dedicated careers website (http://teesvalleyjobs.airproducts.co.uk) and online recruitment websites such as www.totaljobs.com.

Certain roles such as Instrument Technicians and Controls Engineers, will be filled immediately. The remainder of the positions will be added gradually over the next several months.

Construction on the Tees Valley 2 renewable energy facility started earlier this year and currently supports 120 jobs. It is expected to come on-stream in 2016. The facility is located on land next to the Tees Valley 1 (TV1) facility, where 800 people are currently working on the final construction phase.

Tees Valley 2 will convert pre-processed municipal, commercial and industrial waste - otherwise destined for landfill - into reliable, renewable power equivalent to the needs of 50,000 homes in the North East. Every year, up to 350,000 tonnes of non-recyclable waste will be diverted from landfill for energy generation. Alongside Tees Valley 1, it’s the largest energy plant of its type to be built in the UK.

Andrew Connolly, Air Products’ Plant Manager of the Tees Valley Renewable Energy Facility, said: “As we did with Tees Valley 1, we are looking to recruit from Teesside primarily, although we may need to recruit people from outside the region to fill certain positions. There’s a mix of skilled and semi-skilled jobs on offer, and the chance to build a long-term career within an international well recognised company.”

Connolly added: “Once Tees Valley 2 enters commercial operation, the projects will have created over 1500 jobs in the region and Air Products will have invested significant resources into the local economy.”

Stockton Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Transport, Councillor Mike Smith, said: “I’m delighted that Air Products is moving forward with its second facility and is starting to recruit. It is an excellent opportunity for local people to gain employment and yet another boost for our local economy. It is also really encouraging to see that Air Products is continuing to take advantage of the many skills our local workforce has to offer and recognises that Stockton Borough and the Tees Valley Enterprise Zone is a great place to do business.”

In a landmark deal, and marked by a visit to the Tees Valley 2 site by Rt Hon Francis Maude MP in April, the British Government via the Cabinet Office will purchase the plant’s power output. The Cabinet Office’s energy contract with Air Products is part of the Government’s “Energy for Growth” program and will meet 2% of the Government's overall energy consumption.

On his visit, Minister for the Cabinet Office Francis Maude said: “this project demonstrates that the UK is an excellent market for investing in innovative new technology. Importantly, the Air Products project provides a solution to the UK’s waste management challenge whilst strengthening the country’s energy security.”

Rada Nadzorcza Air Products ogłosiła, że z dniem 1 lipca 2014 r. prezesem i dyrektorem generalnym firmy zostanie Seifi Ghasemi, pełniący obecnie funkcję prezesa i dyrektora generalnego Rockwood Holdings. Dotychczasowy prezes John E. McGlade pozostanie na stanowisku do 30 czerwca, po czym przejdzie na emeryturę.

Seifi Ghasemi został powołany do Rady Nadzorczej Air Products we wrześniu 2013 roku. Der Aufsichtsrat des Industriegasespezialisten Air Products hat am 18. Juni 2014 Seifi Ghasemi zum neuen Vorstandsvorsitzenden und Präsidenten ernannt. Er übernimmt die Positionen ab dem 01. Juli. Derzeit ist er Mitglied des Aufsichtsrates von Air Products und Geschäftsführer der Rockwood Holdings, Inc. Seifi Ghasemi folgt auf John E. McGlade, der die bisherige Funtkion als Vorstandsvorsitzender noch bis 30. Juni ausüben wird, um anschließend in Ruhestand zu gehen.

Ghasemi is de opvolger van John E. McGlade, die na 30 juni terugtreedt als CEO en met pensioen gaat.

Le Conseil d’administration d’Air Products (NYSE : APD) vient de nommer Seifi Ghasemi au poste de Président Directeur Général du Groupe. Il prendra ses nouvelles fonctions au 1er juillet 2014. Air Products’ (NYSE: APD) Board of Directors announced today that Seifi Ghasemi has been named its new chairman, president and chief executive officer, effective July 1. Prior to joining Rockwood, Mr. Ghasemi held a number of leadership positions at global industrial companies, including chairman and chief executive officer of GKN Sinter Metals, Inc., and in a variety of senior roles with The BOC Group, which is now part of Linde AG.

Air Products übernimmt Kalibriergase-Geschäft von Real-Gas

Der Industriegasespezialist Air Products (NYSE:APD) hat das Kalibriergase-Geschäft der Real-Gas GmbH & Co. KG übernommen. Die Vereinbarung verschafft dem Spezialgasegeschäft von Air Products eine stärkere Position in Deutschland und eröffnet dem Unternehmen direkte Vertriebswege in wichtigen europäischen Zielmärkten.

Der erworbene Geschäftsbereich von Real-Gas bietet eine Vielzahl an Prüfgas-Gemischen an, die in leichte und handliche Aluminium-Druckdosen verschiedener Größen abgefüllt werden. Die Kalibriergase kommen für die regelmäßige Prüfung der Anzeigegenauigkeit und Funktionstüchtigkeit von stationären und tragbaren Gas-Detektoren zum Einsatz.

Real-Gas betreute in Deutschland, Österreich und der Schweiz über lange Zeit den Vertrieb von Aluminium-Druckdosen für das britische Unternehmen CryoService, bei dem Air Products eine Mehrheitsbeteilung hielt und das im Jahr 2012 vollständig von Air Products übernommen wurde.

Matthias Kuhn, Geschäftsführer für Industriegase in Kontinental-Nordeuropa, sagte anlässlich der Übernahme: „Deutschland ist einer der größten Märkte für Gasnachweisgeräte in Europa und ein wichtiges Land für Air Products. Durch die Übernahme des Kalibriergasegeschäfts von Real-Gas können wir unsere bestehende Marktposition weiter ausbauen und die Expertise beider Unternehmen zum Vorteil unserer Kunden kombinieren.“

Im Anschluss an die formale und organisatorische Einbindung von Real-Gas wird der derzeit in Martinsried bei München ansässige Geschäftsbetrieb an Air Products’ deutschen Firmensitz nach Bochum verlagert. Pour la troisième année consécutive, Air Products s’ouvre à la population du pays de Massiac. Après avoir accueilli les éleves de maternelle et de primaire en 2012, puis des collégiens en 2013, c’est aux aînés que s’adresse plus particulièrement l’entreprise cette année en organisant pour certains d’entre eux une visite de ses locaux massiacois.

En parallèle, et en étroite collaboration avec les associations et les clubs 3ème âge de la Communauté de communes du pays de Massiac, il prépare une exposition publique du 1er au 26 juillet 2014 à la médiathèque. Cette demarche s’inscrit parfaitement dans le cadre du projet éducatif local : “patrimoine : sur les traces des vieilles photos”. L’objectif : retracer l’histoire du site industriel qu’il occupe aujourd’hui à travers les âges : d’abord fonderies d’antimoine, puis fibrerie, site de travaux publics ensuite et enfin de gaz industriels avec SAGA puis Air Products.

La réussite de cette exposition repose en grande partie sur la participation de chacun d’entre vous. Vous êtes en effet appelés à prêter tout document (photo, courier, plan) ou à partager oralement vos souvenirs liés à ce site. Air Products (NYSE:APD) employee Harold Allen has been honored by the Jackie Robinson Foundation (JRF) as one of “42 Under 40” Distinguished Alumni. A site supervisor at Air Products’ hydrogen facility in Martinez, Calif., Allen was recognized among an elite group for his exemplary contributions in both the workplace and the community. JRF, which has an alumni of over 1400 scholars, formally recognized the group at the opening reception of the Foundation’s annual alumni reunion held last week in New York City.

The recognition honors Allen’s commitment to providing opportunities for young diverse students to fulfill their potential and achieve their dreams. He currently serves as the chair of the Foundation’s Pacific Northwest region Scholars Advisory Committee, a role he refers to as “easily one of the most meaningful volunteer projects I have ever supported.” Allen feels the opportunity to give back to the Foundation and to support each new class of scholars as they chart their own courses has had great impact on his life.

Joint venture Air Products en Takamul Investment voor productie industriële gassen in Oman

Air Products (NYSE:APD), wereldwijd een van de grootste leveranciers van industriële gassen, en Takamul Investment Company, een dochteronderneming van Oman Oil Company, hebben een overeenkomst gesloten voor de oprichting van een joint-venture voor de productie van industriële gassen. Het bedrijf zal een compleet gamma industriële gassen waaronder waterstof, stikstof en zuurstof leveren aan klanten van de Speciale Economische Zone (SEZ) van Duqm in Oman.

De joint venture is opgezet om de economische ontwikkeling van de SEZ in Duqm te stimuleren en nieuwe investeerders aan te trekken. De joint venture doet een beroep op de expertise van Air Products met betrekking tot het ontwerpen en exploiteren van industriële gasfabrieken en pijpleidingen. Zo kan Takamul haar klanten in de regio onder meer belangrijke procesgassen leveren via haar Centralised Utility Company (CUC).

Air Products et Takamul Investment créent une joint venture en Oman

Le Groupe Air Products - premier fournisseur mondial en hydrogène - et Takamul Investment Company – une filiale de la Oman Oil Company – viennent d’annoncer la signature d’une joint venture qui donnera naissance à un site de distribution de gaz industriels qui fournira une gamme complète de gaz et notamment de l’hydrogène, de l’azote et de l’oxygène à tous les clients de la Zone Economique Spéciale (SEZ) de Duqm (Oman).

Cette joint venture va soutenir le développement économique de la SEZ de Duqm en augmentant sa compétitivité pour attirer de nouveaux investisseurs industriels. Elle vise l’excellence opérationnelle grâce à l’expérience d’Air Products en matière de conception de grandes structures industrielles et de pipelines et à son savoir-faire opérationnel, tout en profitant de la solide position dont Takamul bénéficie à Duqm en matière d’infrastructures multi-utilitaires, grâce à sa Centralized Utility Company (CUC).

Avec sa superficie de 1.777 km2 et ses 80 kilomètres de côtes, la SEZ de Duqm sera la plus importante du Moyen-Orient et de l’Afrique du nord, et une des plus grandes au monde. Elle sera administrée, régulée et développée par la Special Economic Zone Authority de Duqm, une entité gouvernementale indépendante financièrement et administrativement. Elle comprendra un port maritime, un centre ville, une zone industrielle, une zone touristique, un centre logistique et des zones éducatives et de formation. Der US-amerikanische Industriegasespezialist Air Products und die omanische Takamul Investment Company, eine Tochtergesellschaft der Oman Oil Company, unterzeichneten am 10. Dezember 2013 eine Joint-Venture-Vereinbarung zur Produktion von Industriegasen. Das gemeinsame Unternehmen soll als so genannter One-Stop-Anbieter das gesamte Spektrum benötigter Industriegase für Kunden der Sonderwirtschaftszone in Duqm (Special Economic Zone at Duqm, SEZAD) zur Verfügung stellen, darunter Wasserstoff, Stickstoff und Sauerstoff.

Das Joint Venture dient der Förderung der wirtschaftlichen Entwicklung in der Sonderwirtschaftszone in Duqm. Es soll die Wettbewerbsfähigkeit der Region unterstreichen und zu weiteren Investitionen anregen. Mit der Investition verbessern sich zudem die operativen Rahmenbedingungen für die ansässigen Unternehmen. Air Products bringt seine Expertise in der Errichtung und dem Betrieb von industriellen Großanlagen und Pipeline-Infrastrukturen ein. Takamul wiederum verfügt durch die Centralised Utility Company (CUC) über eine ausgeprägte Infrastrukturposition als Mehrsparten-Versorgungsunternehmen.

Die Sonderwirtschaftszone in Duqm
Duqm liegt strategisch günstig am Golf von Oman, mit einem ausgeprägten Küstenverlauf entlang des Arabischen Meeres. Dies ist einer der Gründe, warum sich die Stadt zu einem zentralen Umschlagsplatz für Rohöl der Golfregion und zu einem wichtigen industriellen und wirtschaftlichen Zentrum entwickelt hat. Mit einem Gebiet von 1.777 Quadratkilometern und einer Küstenlinie von 80 Kilometern Länge gilt die Sonderwirtschaftszone in Duqm als die größte des Mittleren Ostens und Afrikas und als eine der größten der Welt. Die Verwaltung, Regulierung und Entwicklung der Region übernimmt die „Duqm Special Economic Zone Authority“, eine finanziell und organisatorisch unabhängige staatliche Einrichtung. Air Products, the leading global hydrogen provider, and Takamul Investment Company, a subsidiary of the Oman Oil Company, have signed a joint venture agreement to establish an integrated industrial gases venture, which will become a one-stop provider for a full range of industrial gases such as hydrogen, nitrogen and oxygen for all customers in the Special Economic Zone at Duqm (SEZAD), Oman.

The joint venture will support the economic development of the Special Economic Zone at Duqm and will enhance its competitiveness to attract further industrial investments. It will also aim to deliver the highest operational excellence by leveraging Air Products’ world-class capabilities in large industrial gas plant design, pipeline infrastructure development and operational know-how, as well as Takamul’s strong multi-utility infrastructure position in Duqm, via its Centralised Utility Company (CUC).

Commenting on the formation of the new joint venture, Thomas Wendahl, regional vice president of Air Products - Middle East, said: “This new joint venture will truly be of mutual benefit. With a land area of 1,777 square kilometres and an 80-kilometre coastline, the Duqm SEZ will rank as the largest SEZ in the Middle East and North Africa region and one of the largest in the world. It will be administered, regulated and developed by the Duqm Special Economic Zone Authority, a financially and administratively independent government entity. Encompassing a sea port, city centre, industrial zone, tourism zone, logistics centre and an education and training zone, all supported by a multi-modal transport system connecting the SEZ to nearby regions, the development of the SEZ is expected to take place in three phases from now until 2025.

Air Products 2013 Chairman’s Award of Excellence Presented to Steve Auvil

Dr. Steven Auvil of Air Products (NYSE:APD) was joined by family, colleagues and the company’s chairman recently at a dinner honoring him as the recipient of the 2013 Chairman’s Award of Excellence.

Auvil received the award for his extraordinary work around Air Products’ core technologies -- including membrane systems, adsorption systems and cryogenics -- and key technologies in specialty materials. In addition, his mentoring and leadership of the next generation Air Products technologists was also cited as a key contribution.

“Steve’s contributions to our bottom line, his work as an Air Products Fellow, his technical contributions and legacy, and his unyielding commitment to the career development of others make him an ideal recipient of this year’s Chairman’s Award,” said John McGlade, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Air Products.

The Chairman’s Award for Excellence was established in 1988 to honor significant contributions of employees towards the realization of corporate goals. Winners are selected by the chairman based on nominations proposed by a committee comprised of senior company officials. Auvil received $75,000 in cash and company stock, and was presented with a sculpture symbolizing the technology for air separation engraved with the Latin title “Caelum Aratro Findimus,” which translates as “To Cleave the Sky.”

Auvil recently retired from Air Products after more than 30 years with the company and lives in Macungie, Pa., with his wife, Jane.

Air Products Announces Changes to Merchant Gases and Supply Chain Leadership

Air Products (NYSE:APD) today announced that Corning F. Painter has been appointed to the position of senior vice president and general manager, Merchant Gases. He succeeds John W. Marsland, who is leaving the company to pursue other career opportunities. Patricia (Pam) A. Mattimore, currently vice president and general manager of Performance Materials, will succeed Painter as senior vice president, Supply Chain, and join the company’s Corporate Executive Committee.

Painter joined Air Products in 1984 as a participant in the company’s Career Development Program and subsequently progressed through a variety of commercial and operating positions. He was appointed senior vice president, Corporate Strategy and Technology, and joined the Corporate Executive Committee in 2011. The following year, he assumed responsibility for Supply Chain. Air Products China President Speaks at 3rd China-Eurasia Expo Opening Ceremony in Xinjiang

Air Products (NYSE: APD), a US Fortune 500 company and a leading global supplier of industrial gases and performance materials, was invited by China’s Ministry of Commerce and Xinjiang government to speak at the opening ceremony of the 3rd China-Eurasia Expo and China-Eurasia Economic Development Cooperation Forum held in Urumqi, capital city of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on 2nd September. Air Products Award-Winning Rock & Roll Band The Difference to Play Final Shows at Musikfest Café in Bethlehem

When Fortune magazine named The Difference “Best Corporate Rock Band in America” in 2001, few could have imagined that this honor would be just the beginning of an amazing journey for Air Products’ company rock and roll band. Thirteen years after then Air Products Executive Vice President Joe Kaminski made a simple suggestion about forming the rock group, the band has played over 300 concerts, recorded four studio albums, and helped to raise more than $700,000 for charities throughout the United States. The Difference has even shared the stage with rock royalty, such as long-time Billy Joel drummer Liberty DeVitto and 38 Special guitarist Jeff Carlisi. However, the road has not been without heartache for the band, as it lost founding members Barry Grow in 2003 and Steve Eck in 2007 to cancer. Nonetheless, they have persevered.

“The Difference has displayed a level of passion that many Air Products volunteers share for supporting good causes,” said John McGlade, Air Products chairman, president and chief executive officer. “The band members have provided tireless support, on their own time, for countless charities and I thank them dearly for the 13 years of great times that they have given to so many in the community and at Air Products.”

Final Shows
Due to the upcoming retirement of drummer and vocalist Sal Nicrone, The Difference will play its final concerts on Sept. 8 at the Musikfest Café in Bethlehem. Air Products and ArtsQuest will pay tribute to Nicrone and fellow band members Joe Hilgar (bass guitar, keyboards, vocals), Ed McKendry (lead guitar, vocals), Jim “J.T.” Meyer (lead guitar and vocals) and Terry Wetzel (sound technician) when they sponsor two free thank you concerts by the band. Showtimes will be 3:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and the group will play many crowd favorites in acoustic and electric sets. A limited number of free public tickets will be available at www.artsquest.org starting on Aug. 22 at 10 a.m.

Drum master Liberty DeVitto explained his first impression of The Difference and his relationship with the band over the years.

“The first time I saw The Difference was at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame,” DeVitto said. “They were doing ‘Hold on Loosely’ (by 38 Special) and I said who the heck are these guys. I met Sal and the band and we’ve been friends ever since. I mean like friends, beyond music. They’re great people.”

DeVitto added, “A company that allows a rock and roll band to represent it is a great company because, I believe, that music is a team builder – even more than sports.”

The Difference Has Made a Difference
The Difference has lived up to its namesake, an Air Products corporate motto that says that the company’s people, through their integrity, passion and understanding, is what sets it apart in the marketplace. Through their music, the band has supported various non-profit organizations and causes, including the Special Olympics, Muscular Dystrophy Association, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, American Diabetes Foundation, American Heart Association and many local charities.

In addition, The Difference has recorded four charitable albums – “Rockin’ for Charities” (2001); “Anything at All…for Charity” (2003); “Grow” (2005), titled in tribute and dedicated to founding member Barry Grow, who died of cancer in 2003; and “Songs I Always Wanted to Do with a Band” (2008), titled in tribute and dedicated to Steve Eck, who died of cancer in 2007.

“I have so much gratitude to be a part of this,” Eck said in a 2005 interview. “It’s what music is meant to be about. We make people happy. We make people feel things. And on top of everything, every time we go out we raise money for something important.”
