Well would you look at that, Coinbase just went and cancelled my account out of the blue! I've been using them for over seven years to buy, hold and sell different cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum. Everything seemed fine - I followed all the account verification steps when I signed up, kept my personal info updated, and made regular trades.

But then last June I got an email from Coinbase saying they were discontinuing all services to my account by September 25th and I had to withdraw any funds. What's up with that? They didn't give me any explanation for the cancellation either. Literally nothing - just "you've got until this date to pull your money out and then you can't use your account anymore."

Rude much, Coinbase?! Needless to say, I was pretty annoyed by this sudden development. I mean, Coinbase is one of the biggest and most well-known crypto exchanges out there. You'd think they'd have some decent customer service and communication if they're going to shut down someone's account without notice or cause.

But nope, apparently not. I tried reaching out to their support to ask what was going on but hoo boy, good luck with that. After waiting around for days just to get a response, all they said was that account closures are at their discretion and they won't provide any additional details. Thanks for nothing, guys! Really helping me trust you there.

So now I've got this looming deadline from Coinbase but no actual crypto wallet of my own yet to transfer my funds to. Cue some frantic shopping around to find a replacement - at least Coinbase was kind enough to remind me about their own Coinbase Wallet in that cancellation email. Traveling to Japan for the first time can be intimidating, especially with the numerous requirements you need to comply with. It doesn't help that there are horror stories circulating about Philippine immigration, NAIA airport shutdowns, and flight cancellations. However, don't let these negative thoughts dampen your spirits and hinder you from experiencing the wonders of Japan. Yes, you guessed it right! The first step was obtaining a visa. As a Filipino traveler, I needed a visa to enter Japan for tourism purposes. But fret not! The process was surprisingly smooth. I gathered all the necessary documents, such as my valid passport, filled-out visa application form, and a passport-sized photo with a white background.

Acquiring a Japan Tourist Visa is a breeze and won't put a dent in your wallet. It only requires two simple steps: first, complete the necessary requirements specified by the Japanese Embassy. Second, select from the list of accredited travel agencies to handle your application. In my case, I opted for Attic Tours in SM Megamall to process my visa, and it only cost me PHP 1,200 (USD 25 / Y EN 3,065). There are more cheaper options like RELI Tours (Php 950 for tourist traveler) just right beside Attic, but you have to endure the long lines to avail of the cheaper fee.

Here's the Updated Requirements to Travel to Japan from Philippines for 2023

1. Passport (Holder's signature required) - For applicants 13 years old and above, you need to immediately sign the signature line on the third page of the passport booklet upon receipt of your passport. For minors 12 years old and below, leave it blank.

2. Application Form - With a facial Photo (4.5x3.5cm) must be attached. Photo taken within the last 6 months. The background is white.

You need to write your Full Name and birthdate at the back of the Photo.
You need to use a glue not scotch tape or stapler. Spread glue on all the sides of the photo not the middle part then paste it to the application form.

NOTE: You don't need (3) and (4) if you have a used Japanese visa on your passport.

Where to get PSA Birth Certificate?

PSA Birth Certificate online:

If you are a busy person then you can easily get your PSA Birth Certificate online through PSAhelpline as of post time their fee is only P365.00, while at PSAserbilis is only P330.00. If you are near Savemore or SM Hypermarket or SM Department store you can get your PSA Birth Certificate there for just P155 but with this option you need to personally pick-up your PSA Birth Certificate at SM after 4-5 weeks. You need to bring a government-issued valid ID and the receipt to pick up your PSA Birth Certificate at SM.

In case you go there and claim it personally, your representative will need to bring his government-issued valid ID and an authorization letter from the owner.

If you're asking how much does it cost to get PSA Birth Certificate when you walk in? Walk-in applications at serbilis outlets will just cost you P155.00.

Additional Requirements:

If the PSA Birth Certificate is unreadable, submit Birth certificate issued by Local Civil Registrar.
If the birth certificate is "LATE REGISTRATION", submit Baptismal Certificate and School Record (Form137)

It's important to provide accurate and detailed information in the bank certificate to demonstrate your financial stability.

In my personal opinion, you should have enough money to support yourself and any dependents for the duration of your trip. According to Budgetyourtrip, the average daily expenses for a tourist in Japan is P7,500 (¥18,967/$137), so on average, a one-week vacation in Japan will cost around P52,500 (¥132,770/$957) per person. Therefore, if you have P60,000 to P70,000 in your bank account, I believe that would be sufficient.

7. Photocopy of Income Tax Return (BIR Form 2316)

It must have amount of gross income and stamp of recipient, if tax is not withheld for example self-employed.
In my case since I'm self-employed I just submitted a copy of my BIR Form 1701A and the receipt from GCash since there's no stamp on it because it was submitted online.
If you don't have Income Tax Return (BIR Form) and there is no ADB (Average Daily Balance) on your Bank Certificate, submit Bank Statement to prove transaction for the last 3 months.
Clear photocopy and latest form.

In case a guarantor in the Philippines will shoulder part/all of your travel expense

I love this book! It grabbed me from the first page and didn't let go until the end. This for me is one of those edge-of-your-seat suspense thrillers with compelling characters. More than that, though, it helps shed light on domestic violence. There really is no typical victim of domestic abuse as anyone can be regardless of gender, background, age, education and so on. I think the author has done a great job researching and writing this novel.

🙶True crime writer Wylie Lark doesn’t mind being snowed in at the isolated farmhouse where she’s retreated to write her new book. A cozy fire, complete silence. It would be perfect, if not for the fact that decades earlier, at this very house, two people were murdered in cold blood and a girl disappeared without a trace.

As the storm worsens, Wylie finds herself trapped inside the house, haunted by the secrets contained within its walls—haunted by secrets of her own. Then she discovers a small child in the snow just outside. After bringing the child inside for warmth and safety, she begins to search for answers. But soon it becomes clear that the farmhouse isn’t as isolated as she thought, and someone is willing to do anything to find them.🙷

My Rating: 🌟🌟/5

I would say that this book started off okay. It's dark and atmospheric, just the way I like my thrillers. Halfway through however, I started losing interest and almost DNFed. But it rated so high on Goodreads so I thought the ending must be really good, at least, so I powered through. The ending though predictable, left me with so many questions. It's not because it's a cliffhanger ending, no, rather a lot of the story elements just feel unbelievable.

SPOILER ALERT: Don't read if you haven't finished the book.

Here are some events that transpired in the story that I don't think made sense:

1. When Becky got hold of the shotgun, why did she, instead of shooting Randy with it to save them all wasted the shots by pointlessly shooting at the wall and ceiling until the chamber was empty? Amazingly, and by some miracle, the shotgun just started 'working' again when Becky picked it up but it initially jammed when Randy tried to shoot Wylie with it. So why blow the chance to finally be free by doing what she did?

2. When Wylie found her, Becky was entangled in barbwire, the fencing coiled around her legs biting into skin. Wylie could not get her untangled that she had to leave her to go back to the house to get wire cutters. Becky was stuck outside in the middle of a blizzard for who knows how long without proper clothing, hanging on for dear life. So how did she make it to the house at all?

3. After twenty years of being held captive in the basement, Becky and her daughter finally escaped through the window. Successfully. At first attempt. Why couldn't she have done this sooner?

4. After everything that went down with Wylie and Randy that night, how did Wylie not die?

I give this 🌟🌟. The beginning really is not that bad, just the predictability and plot holes put me off.

Tabitha Suzuma tends to gravitate toward taboo and sensitive subject matter. Often heart-breaking and hauntingly sad, her stories aren't always the easiest to take in. When I finished reading Forbidden, I remember crying myself to sleep and then feeling down and empty for the next several days. I felt that way with Hurt too, however I have to agree with the growing consensus that Forbidden is the better novel. That said, I think Hurt is beautifully written. Lots of pretty words it's like reading a painting. It's intense and poignant. It felt realistic - the characters, relatable and likable enough; the plot and setting, very detailed, so detailed in fact that I caught myself tuning out a few times. While I appreciate the imagery, it's too wordy for my liking. It's probably just me though, I get bored rather quickly. The author holding back information up till the last possible second drove me nuts. So when the truth finally came tumbling out, I was just mostly relieved and a bit annoyed that it took so long to confirm what we all probably have already guessed. It was unspeakable but it wasn't really Mattie's secret but rather what happened after the big reveal I found truly shocking and painful. Hurt, notwithstanding its over descriptiveness, I think is tragic, depressing and beautiful at the same time.

With a string of hot jerks and helpless heroines with possible masochistic tendencies, I'm just about to lose hope and re-assess my taste in fiction. But Cinder is a breath of fresh air. I love, love this book! I put off reading it because I thought like aliens, cyborgs are something that would not interest me. Boy was I wrong! Now all I can think of is why I hadn't read it sooner. I did figure out the twist early on. This book being a Cinderella retelling, I guess predictability is inevitable. So I didn't really mind and regardless, I still had goosebumps and my heart still raced a lot. I haven't read many fairy tale retellings but Cinder, I could tell, is one of the best. All the elements of the original tale - wicked stepmother, spoiled stepsisters, the prince, the ball, the "pumpkin carriage", a godmother of sorts who I keep picturing as NCIS's David McCallum, and of course, the "glass slipper" are set in a futuristic world where hover cars and androids are just about as much a daily fixture as say a wardrobe that does not open to a magical world or portraits where subjects don't speak or move. It's just incredible!

As a long-time Coinbase user, I received an alarming email with the subject "An Important Message Regarding Your Coinbase Account." The email informed me that Coinbase would be discontinuing all services to my account and that I had until September 25th, 2023, to withdraw my funds. Confused and frustrated, I discovered that many other users were facing the same situation. It became clear that Coinbase was suspending or closing accounts for members from other countries, seemingly prioritizing its US-based clients. Listen up, book lovers! I've got a bone to pick with you. Why didn't any of you tell me about Colleen Hoover's Verity book earlier? I mean, I thought we were friends! But I'll forgive you this time because I finally got my hands on a copy, and let me tell you, it did not disappoint.

First of all, let me just say that this is my first time reading a book by Hoover, and I am blown away by her writing skills. It's like she's got some kind of magical power over words. The way she crafts her sentences is just so captivating that you can't help but be drawn into the story.

I'll be honest, I started reading Verity just to try out something new from an author I don't know yet, but once I started reading, I couldn't stop. I mean, seriously, I was turning pages faster than a cheetah chasing its prey. The plot and the events in the book are mind-blowing. It made me question myself about the world we live in. This book creates a lot of confusion, but in a good way.

The story starts with Lowen, a struggling author, who is brought in to complete the remaining books of famous writer Verity, who was recently left incapacitated by a car accident. That's where things get really interesting. Verity is no longer able to continue her bestselling series, and Lowen is staying at the couple's house to go through Verity's notes. But as the story progresses, things start to get creepy and bizarre, and before you know it, you're caught up in a psychological thriller that will leave you questioning everything you thought you knew.

The characters in this book are so well-written, and they go so well with each other. The story is centered around Lowen, a man called Jeremy Crawford, and Jeremy's wife, Verity. And let me tell you, this trio is something else. The way their relationships play out is just fascinating, and you can't help but be drawn into their world.

But let me warn you, this book is not for the faint of heart. It's a creepy thriller that will have you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. And the ending? Oh boy, read until the end and then try to find out which truth Verity was manipulating. It's a real mind-bender.

Not bad but not great either. I'm clearly in the minority here. The blurb was really compelling and the book started off strong but it went downhill super fast. I find some parts of the story interesting, some improbable, some unnecessary, and some cringey. While I had no problem following multiple characters and POVs and the dual timelines, I felt that the book was trying to do so much. The pacing was slow and there was a lot of fluff and plot conveniences plus the ending was cliché. I also find it unpleasant to read about the family's comings and goings when from the beginning, I know they all die in the end.
