Kendumundi, Mayurbhanj, July 5, (Report- Karttik Behera): A large tree fell on the National Highway near Kendumundi on Sunday. The fallen tree blocked the road and stopped traffic for several hours. Hundreds of vehicles waited in long lines on both sides of the highway, and passengers faced many delays.
Traffic stopped for about three to four hours. Office workers, patients, children, and long-distance travelers waited on the road. Trucks, buses, and cars stood in long queues.

Fire department workers received the news and quickly reached the spot. They used cutting machines to cut the tree and move it away from the road. Their efforts cleared the highway, and traffic returned to normal.

Nimapada, July 5, 2026, (Ajaya Mallik): Following the grand bathing festival known as Snana Purnima, Lord Jagannath and his sibling deities traditionally fall "sick" with a fever. They rest in a special recovery room called the 'Anasara Pindi' inside the Puri temple. During this resting period, the priests do not offer them regular food. Instead, the deities only consume fruits, roots, and natural herbal medicines.

To support this ancient tradition, devotees from the Prachi river valley sent a massive offering of fresh fruits to Puri. This year, the Charichhak Press Club actively joined the holy event. Members of the press club, along with hundreds of local citizens, gathered fresh fruits directly from the backyard gardens of the devotees.
They loaded the fruits, bright flowers, and holy basil leaves onto a traditional cart. To the sound of musical instruments and devotional singing, the cart began its journey toward Puri. On the seventh day of the resting period, devotees dispatched the first cart from the Deuli Matha. The next day, another group sent more fruits from the ancient Viswamitra Ashram. Saint Naga Ram Prit Das led a large group of singers during the journey.
Many local heritage centers participated in the event this year. These included the Astaranga Radhakanta Matha, Birsingh Gadi Pitha, Gautam Rishi Matha, and Gotirtha Matha.
Historically, the Prachi river region regularly supplied fresh fruits, herbal medicines, and special clothes for the temple. However, this practice stopped for many years after the Dasabatara Matha in Puri fell into ruin. In 1992, Pandit Trilochan Mishra and Dr. Santosh Kumar Mitra from the Prachi Culture Protection Council worked hard to restart this service. They also successfully revived several other ancient walking journeys and local festivals.

Despite the joy of the event, local residents expressed a deep concern. The historic Prachi river is drying up quickly and losing its natural water flow. Devotees worry that this environmental damage will hurt the local culture and disrupt future religious services.

Bhanjanagar, (Report- Jayakrishna Patnaik): Police in the Ganjam district arrested four members of an inter-state gang on Saturday. This arrest solves a series of recent burglaries in the area.

Recently, many thefts took place across the district. To stop these crimes, the Ganjam Superintendent of Police ordered officers to form a special team. Inspector Jibanananda Jena led this team. The officers successfully caught the gang members just as they were planning to sell the stolen jewelry.
The police arrested A. Putu Raju, A. Nagaraju, Jitu Nahak, and M. Munna. These four men took part in five different thefts across the Bhanjanagar, Tarasingh, Jagannath Prasad, and Buguda areas.
Officers recovered a large amount of stolen goods from the group. They seized 66 grams of gold jewelry and 2.9 kilograms of silver. They also found and took the tools the gang used to break into houses.
One of their recent crimes happened on the night of the 17th. The gang broke the back door of Sushil Kumar Panda's house in Bada Tulasipalli village. A tragic incident reported from Nuapada district during the ongoing doctors’ protest has raised serious concerns over the availability of emergency healthcare services. A pregnant woman from Birighat village in Khariar block died after allegedly failing to receive timely medical treatment, prompting grief and outrage among residents.

The deceased has been identified as Geetanjali Kharsel, wife of Bhal Kharsel, of Birighat village. According to family members, she developed labour pain on Friday evening and was being shifted to the Khariar Sub-Divisional Hospital in a 108 ambulance. However, she delivered a healthy baby while still on the way to the hospital.
Following the delivery, the placenta was reportedly not expelled, causing her condition to deteriorate rapidly. The family alleged that due to the ongoing doctors’ protest, no doctor was available at the Khariar Sub-Divisional Hospital to provide the required emergency treatment. The nursing staff reportedly made efforts to manage the situation, but her condition continued to worsen.
At around 11 p.m., Geetanjali was shifted to Khariar Mission Hospital. As her condition remained critical, she was referred to a higher medical centre in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, at around 2 a.m. Unfortunately, she died on the way before reaching the hospital.
The bereaved family has alleged that timely medical intervention at the government hospital could have saved her life. The incident has sparked public concern over the availability of emergency healthcare services during the ongoing protest and the adequacy of alternative arrangements for critical patients.
So far, neither the Health Department nor the protesting doctors’ association has issued an official statement regarding the incident. Residents have demanded a thorough inquiry to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death and to determine whether any lapse in emergency medical care occurred.

JATANI, KHORDHA, (Report- Lipikarani Raut): The villagers of Gaurada Kashipur in Jatani recently celebrated a highly significant spiritual event. They successfully completed the idol installation ceremony of Goddess Maa Bayani. The temple consecration was a grand three-day religious program. Villagers came together with great joy and deep devotion to establish this new temple. Their strong unity, teamwork, and active financial cooperation made this beautiful event possible.

The three-day festival started with a holy Kalash Yatra. Many local women took part in this colorful water pot procession. They carried sacred water pots on their heads and walked together while chanting religious prayers. Throughout the three days, expert priests guided the community through several important Hindu rituals. They performed Surya Puja to worship the Sun God. ATHAGARH, 26/06 (Rupashree Swetapadma Mohanty): A special police team from Bhubaneswar stopped a major smuggling network on Wednesday afternoon. The Special Task Force (STF) seized 190 kilograms of illegal substances from a cashew forest in Athagarh. The banned goods have an estimated value of nearly one crore rupees. Officers arrested one man at the scene and uncovered a very unusual delivery method.

The Secret Delivery Token

The smugglers used a clever trick to hide their deals. They used a torn ten-rupee currency note as a secret password. The main boss of the group tore the note into two pieces. He gave one half of the note to his delivery agent. He sent the second half of the note to the buyer.
When the buyer came to collect the goods, he had to show his half of the torn note. The delivery agent matched the two pieces together. He only handed over the illegal items if the two torn pieces formed a complete ten-rupee note. Police officers found and seized this torn note during the raid.

A Long Investigation

This successful raid was the result of hard work. Police officers watched the group for many months. Sub-Inspector Arun Kumar Mallik tracked the criminals closely. He gathered important details and reported them to his senior officer, Special DIG K B Singh. The senior officer quickly gave orders to act.
Two inspectors, Amit Kumar Biswal and Parshuram Sahu, led a ten-member team into the forest. They raided the area along the local road and surprised the smugglers.

Transport and Hiding Spots

The criminals tried very hard to hide their daily activities. They brought the banned items from distant districts. They did not use large trucks. Instead, they used small vehicles like auto-rickshaws and motorcycles. They moved the goods in small packets to avoid attention from the local police.
Finally, they packed everything into large sacks. They hid these sacks deep inside the cashew forest. They placed them under bamboo bushes at the bottom of a hill. The group even hired guards to watch the hidden sacks day and night.

Arrests and Future Actions

During the forest raid, the police team arrested a 48-year-old man named Nilambar Kuanr. He worked as the delivery agent for the group. The police locked him inside the local police station on Wednesday. The very next day, officers took him to the court. The judge sent him directly to prison.
However, the main leader of the group ran away before the police arrived. He is currently hiding from the law. The special police team is still searching for him. They are also actively investigating other people connected to this large supply network.

Police Arrest Man for Blackmailing Woman on Social Media

Cuttack, June 24: (Report- Rupashree Swetapadma Mohanty): Badambadi police achieved a major success against cybercrime this week. Officers arrested a 35-year-old man on Tuesday for blackmailing a woman. He used her private photos and videos to demand money.

The accused, comes from the Bhuban area in the Dhenkanal district. He first met the victim on Facebook to discuss a network marketing business. Over time, he gained her trust. He later secretly recorded her private videos and photos. Following this, he threatened to post the media on social platforms to ruin her reputation. He used these threats to harass the woman and extort money from her.
The victim faced constant harassment and finally filed a written complaint at the Badambadi police station on June 5. Police immediately registered Case No. 282/24. They charged the accused under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology (IT) Act. The Cyber Cell quickly tracked the man's mobile phone location and captured him.
The investigation team seized multiple pieces of evidence from the accused. This includes two mobile phones, a 16GB pen drive containing the private files, and 10 WhatsApp chat screenshots that he used for the blackmail.
Police questioned the accused at the station and subsequently sent him to court. Through this case, the Commissionerate Police showed their strict stand against cybercrimes and offenses against women.
A senior police officer stated that online blackmail and financial exploitation are very serious crimes. He added that the police remain completely committed to protecting the privacy and safety of all citizens. The department will take the strictest possible action against anyone who misuses technology to harass women.
