Nayagarh School Achieves 100% Pass Rate in 2026 Matric Exams

Nayagarh: (Report- Ramakrushna Rath): Shree Ramakrishna Adarsha Sikshyakendra in Nayagarh recorded an outstanding performance in the 2026 Matriculation exams. The school achieved a 100 percent pass rate. Every student scored more than 50 percent marks. The students made history again and brought great pride to their school.

A total of 33 students from the school took the board exam. The students achieved the following results:

A-1 Grade: 1 student
A-2 Grade: 2 students
B-1 Grade: 7 students
B-2 Grade: 5 students
C Grade: 18 students

Pratigyan Das became the top performer of the school. She secured the only A-1 grade with a total of 560 marks. She kept the school's honor high and hopes to become a doctor in the future.

The founder and secretary of the school, Sridhar Sahu, expressed his happiness over the excellent results. He thanked the dedicated teachers and the supportive parents for this success.

All the students from Shree Ramakrishna Adarsha Sikshyakendra took this examination under the administration of Lenkudipada High School.

Nayagarh Journalists Protest: 10-Point Demand for PRGI Registered Newspapers

Nayagarh, May 2: (Report- Ramakrushna Rath): The Nayagarh district branch of the Utkal Journalists Association held a protest meeting and an executive committee meeting. This event took place on Labour Day at the Nayagarh Journalist Bhavan. Srikant Khatei, the president of the district branch, organised the event. The journalists gathered to unit, fight for their rights, and discuss their long-standing demands.
Bibhuti Bhusan Kar, the State President of the Utkal Journalists Association, attended the meeting as the chief guest. Pabitra Maharatha, an advisor to the association, joined the event as the guest of honour. Before the main discussion started, the members observed a moment of silence. They prayed for Debaprasad Mishra, the former president of the association, who recently passed away. Following this, Baidyabhusan Mohapatra, the district branch secretary, read the official report and started the discussion on the rights of media workers.

To mark Labour Day, hundreds of journalists at the Nayagarh meeting wore black badges as a sign of peaceful protest. Media workers across the entire state also wore black badges to show solidarity. Earlier, on April 29, journalists from all districts submitted official letters of demands to their respective District Collectors. They directed these letters to the Chief Minister of Odisha. Members in the Nayagarh district submitted these letters at the district headquarters and in all local blocks.
State President Bibhuti Bhusan Kar delivered a clear speech to the attendees. He reminded the current Chief Minister about past promises made to the press community. Kar expressed disappointment because the government has not introduced new welfare programs for media workers since taking power. He pointed out that many other states provide regular pensions to journalists. However, the Odisha government has not yet taken similar steps for the welfare of its local reporters.
The Utkal Journalists Association promised to continue its active fight for a 10-point demand list. These core demands include the following points:

The government must restructure the state press accreditation committee.
The state must provide official recognition to eligible journalists at both the district and state levels.
The government must create and implement a formal Journalist Protection Act.
The state needs to provide a monthly pension to journalists who are older than 60 years.
The administration must establish an Odisha Press Academy.
The government should build a dedicated facility for journalists in the state capital.
The state must expand the Gopabandhu Health Insurance Scheme. This scheme should cover retired journalists, the parents of the beneficiaries, and their children over 25 years of age.
The government must increase the death compensation amount for journalists to 10 lakh rupees.
The state must include journalists from PRGI-registered newspapers in the health insurance scheme, even if they do not appear on the advertisement list of I&PR. The audience clapped loudly to support this specific announcement.

Advisor Pabitra Maharatha also spoke to the large gathering. He requested all journalists to stay united in their efforts. He stated that a united front will persuade the government to accept their valid demands. The members agreed to launch stronger, organised protests in the future if the government continues to ignore their requests.

Bhanjanagar: (Report- Jayakrishna Patnaik): The historic Thakurani Jatra festival is currently taking place in Bhanjanagar. This famous event brings great joy to the people of the Ganjam district. The grand celebration started on the 26th of last month. Many people from all over the region visit the town to enjoy the festivities. As part of the event, the festival committee planned special cultural programs for the evenings.

New Stage Inauguration

On Thursday evening, the organisers opened a new open-air stage for these events. They named this stage the Kabi Samrat Muktakash Rangamancha. They set up the stage inside the old jail grounds of the local town. Famous artists and professional dance groups from all over the state will perform here. The committee planned to run these cultural shows every evening until the 20th of this month.
Many important guests attended the grand opening ceremony. Bhanjanagar MLA Pradyumna Kumar Nayak joined the event as the chief guest. Sub-Collector Uma Shankar Behera attended as the guest of honor. Finally, the electricity supply returned to normal at 5:00 AM the next morning.

NIMAPADA, May 1, 2026 (Report- Basant Das): People woke up very early today to celebrate Buddha Purnima. They traveled to the Bana Buda bath ghat on the banks of the Prachi River. Thousands of devotees took a holy bath in the river waters. Locals proudly call the Prachi River the true lifeline of Lord Jagannath's rich culture.

The Prachi Culture Protection Council organised today's special event. Pandit Trilochan Mishra guided the council members throughout the morning. He comes from the family of the famous poet and devotee, Jayadeva. The council members worked hard to help all the visitors. They sang the holy *Gita Govinda* together. They chanted divine names and explained the great history of this sacred place to the crowd.

A Place of Ancient Stories

This riverbank holds deep meaning in ancient Hindu stories. The old holy books, known as the Puranas, share a special tale about Lord Rama. Sage Narada gave Lord Rama some important advice. Lord Rama followed this advice and visited this exact river on the morning of Vaisakha Purnima.
He took a bath and offered holy water to his ancestors. Lord Rama also set up a shrine for Lord Shiva, which people call Rameshwar Shambhu. Lord Rama gave all the blessings from these holy acts to his father, King Dasharatha. These blessings freed his father from past sins and helped him reach heaven.

Rich Historical Roots

History books also highlight the importance of this riverbank. A long time ago, the famous Kalinga War took place. Emperor Ashoka felt deep sorrow and regret after the violent war. He came to this riverbank to find peace.
A Buddhist monk named Upagupta met him here. Upagupta gave Ashoka a holy bath at this very ghat. He then taught Ashoka about the peaceful path of Buddhism. Ashoka accepted the Buddhist religion right here. After this change of heart, Ashoka made Buddhism the main religion of his great empire. He later sent his son and daughter across the sea using the Prachi River route. They traveled far to spread the message of peace to the whole world.
The river holds another proud memory for the local people. The famous Emperor Kharavela of Kalinga became the supreme ruler on this exact day. He accepted his royal crown at the Deva Sabha Mandap near the Prachi River. A large crowd of his happy subjects stood around him to watch the grand event.

A Call to Protect Local Heritage

Many devoted people remembered these amazing events today. They took a bath in the river to gather good blessings for their families. However, the historic river and its old monuments currently face a difficult time.

Ratha Yatra & Snana Yatra: Inside Puri's Grand Festival

Bhubaneswar: (Report- Lipikarani Raut): Every year, millions of devotees gather in the holy city of Puri to witness the magnificent festivals of Lord Jagannath. The celebrations begin with the sacred Snana Yatra and reach their peak during the world-famous Ratha Yatra. These traditional festivals showcase deep devotion and rich cultural heritage.

The Grand Bathing Festival

The Snana Yatra takes place on a special full moon day. Temple priests gently carry the deities—Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, Devi Subhadra, and Lord Sudarshan—out of the main temple. They place the deities on a decorated bathing altar. Priests then bathe the gods using 108 pitchers of sacred water mixed with herbs. They draw this special water from the golden well, known as Suna Kua. Lord Jagannath receives 35 pitchers of water. Lord Balabhadra receives 33 pitchers. Devi Subhadra receives 22 pitchers, and Lord Sudarshan gets 18 pitchers. Following the bath, the priests dress the deities in the beautiful Gajanan Besha, or the elephant attire. Devotees travel from far away just to see this divine look.

The Period of Rest

After taking this heavy bath, the deities traditionally fall sick. They retire to a secret room to rest for 15 days. People call this resting period "Anabasara." During this time, devotees cannot see the main idols inside the temple.

The Chariot Festival Begins

After recovering, the deities step out for the grand Ratha Yatra. Priests bring the deities to their chariots in a beautiful, swaying procession called "Pahandi." Lord Balabhadra boards the Taladhwaja chariot. Devi Subhadra takes her place on the Darpadalana chariot. Finally, Lord Jagannath boards the mighty Nandighosa chariot.
Before the journey starts, the Gajapati Maharaja of Puri performs a humble service. He arrives in a royal palanquin and sweeps the floor of the three chariots using a golden broom. He also sprinkles sweet-smelling sandalwood water. This royal sweeping ritual is called "Chhera Pahanra." It reminds everyone that a king and a common man are equal before the Lord.

Pulling the Chariots

After the king finishes his service, the real excitement begins. Devotees eagerly grab the strong ropes and pull the chariots. The air fills with loud chants, ringing bells, and beating drums. The chariots roll down the Grand Road toward the Gundicha Temple. The deities stay at the Gundicha Temple for several days before returning home.
People call this nine-day festival by many unique names. Some call it "Ghosha Yatra," while others name it "Patitapabana Yatra" because it saves the fallen. Ancient texts say that simply looking at the Lord on His chariot washes away sins and brings true peace to the soul.

BJD Accuses BJP of Delaying Women's Reservation Bill, Announces Statewide Campaign

Bhubaneswar, May 1, 2026: (Report- Lipikarani Raut): The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) strongly responded to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday regarding the Women's Reservation Bill. BJD leaders accused the BJP of deliberately delaying the law. They also criticized the BJP for labeling opposition parties as "anti-woman."

BJD leaders held a press conference at Sankha Bhavan today. Chief Whip Pramila Mallik, Biju Mahila Janata Dal President Snehangini Chhuria, and Senior General Secretary Ranjita Sahu addressed the media. They stated that the parliament passed the Women's Reservation Bill in 2023. However, they claim the BJP government is ignoring its implementation and performing political stunts instead.
To protest this delay, the BJD announced a new grassroots movement. The party will organize the Nari Adhikar Abhiyan. This campaign will run from May 10 to May 25 across all constituencies in the state to inform the public.
Pramila Mallik criticized the central government's approach. She said the entire country watched the government link the bill with the delimitation process during the special parliament session. She accused the BJP of making false claims against opposition parties to hide its own delays. Mallik reminded the press that all political parties, including the BJD, supported the bill in 2023. She claimed the BJP wants to pause the reservation until the number of parliamentary and assembly seats increases, calling this a clear sign of a male-dominated mindset.

She also raised concerns about women's safety under the current state government. She stated that crimes against women have increased over the last two years, bringing a bad name to the state.
Chhuria then highlighted the BJD's historical work for women. She recalled that former Chief Minister Biju Patnaik introduced a 33% reservation for women in the Panchayati Raj system in 1992. Later, Naveen Patnaik increased this reservation to 50%. In 2018, the Odisha Assembly passed a resolution demanding a 33% reservation for women in parliament and state assemblies. BJD leaders even met with 22 different political parties to gather national support for this cause. Additionally, the Mission Shakti program successfully empowered 80 lakh women in the state.
Finally, Ranjita Sahu stated that the women of Odisha and India now understand the situation clearly. She pointed out that the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam passed almost three years ago. The Progressive Labor Forum (Pragatishila Sramika Mancha) organized this grand event. Workers from various sectors joined hands to show their unity. Odisha Transport Department Launches Strict Drive Against Illegal Passenger Transport

Bhubaneswar, 1 May (Report- Priya Ranjan Nayak): The Commerce and Transport Department of Odisha started a massive enforcement drive across the state. Officials launched this action to stop goods vehicles from carrying passengers. Transport Minister Shri Bibhuti Bhushan Jena directed this state-wide campaign to ensure the safety of all road users. The special drive began on April 29, 2026.

On the very first day, enforcement squads checked a total of 1,052 vehicles across different districts. They detected rule violations in 109 cases. The department quickly issued challans to these rule-breakers. Officials took a very strict approach right from the start. They detained 71 vehicles and seized 24 vehicles. Furthermore, the authorities issued notices to cancel the Registration Certificates (RC) of 79 vehicles. They also suspended 62 Driving Licenses (DL) for these offenses.

The Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) reported specific numbers for the seized vehicles. Bhubaneswar-1 RTO seized the highest number with eight vehicles. Koraput and Bhubaneswar-2 RTOs seized four vehicles each. Chandikhol and Rourkela officials seized two vehicles each. Meanwhile, RTOs in Cuttack, Jajpur, Rairangpur, and Sambalpur seized one vehicle each.

Officers also detained many vehicles across various regions. Bolangir and Bhubaneswar-1 RTOs detained eight vehicles each. The Koraput office detained seven vehicles. Authorities in Ganjam detained five vehicles. Offices in Angul, Jharsuguda, Kendrapara, and Bhubaneswar-2 detained four vehicles each. Dhenkanal, Bhanjanagar, Cuttack, Kalahandi, and Sonepur RTOs detained three vehicles each. Nuapada, Rourkela, and Chandikhol detained two vehicles each. Finally, Talcher, Jajpur, Malkangiri, Rairangpur, Puri, and Sundargarh detained one vehicle each. Areas like Bolangir, Cuttack, Bhubaneswar-1, and Koraput reported a notably high number of violations.

The State Transport Authority gave a clear message to the public. They stated that carrying passengers in goods vehicles is a punishable offense. This dangerous practice puts the lives of ordinary people at great risk. The department wants to create awareness and reduce road accidents. Therefore, they will continue this special drive until May 8, 2026. The Commerce and Transport Department warned all vehicle owners and drivers. They must strictly follow the Motor Vehicle Act to avoid penalties.

Jitu Munda lives in Maliposhi village in the Patna block. His sister, Kalara Munda, passed away two months ago. She left ₹19,300 in her local bank account. Jitu visited the bank several times to withdraw this money.
The bank employees did not believe Jitu. They repeatedly ignored his statements about his sister's passing. Instead of guiding him to submit a standard death certificate, the educated bank staff insisted that Kalara must come to the bank herself to sign the withdrawal papers.

Cuttack News: Man Arrested After Tragic Family Dispute

Cuttack, April 27, 2026: (Rupashree Swetapadma Mohanty): Police arrested a man after a serious family dispute in Atanda village. The event happened on Sunday night around 10 pm. Sadly, the man's mother passed away during the incident, and his father suffered severe harm.

Authorities report that Sanatan Sethi (60) and Mini Sethi (48) had a disagreement with their older son, Sanjay Kumar Sethi. The exact reason for the disagreement remains unknown. Sanjay caused serious physical harm to his parents during this time.
Local villagers quickly took the parents to the Badamba Community Health Centre. Doctors there reported that Mini did not survive. Medical staff moved Sanatan to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. He requires urgent medical care and remains under police watch.
Kanpur Police Inspector Sushil Kumar Nayak visited the health center. The police finished the required medical and legal procedures. They then returned Mini to her family. A special team also visited the village to collect evidence from the scene. Police officers arrested the older son shortly after the event.
Sanatan’s younger son, Ajay Kumar Sethi (25), gave a formal report to the Kanpur police station. Police officers continue to investigate the situation today.

65-Year-Old Woman Collapses During Phone Call, Fights Brain Clot

Bahadajhola: (Report- Ashok Kumar Sahoo): A 65-year-old woman collapsed at her home while speaking with her son on the phone. The incident occurred on April 24 in Ghadeibandha village, located in the Bahadajhola panchayat of Nayagarh district.
Ambika Pahan was talking to her son, Daka Pahan, around 8:00 PM. Daka currently works in Bengaluru. During the conversation, Ambika suddenly lost her balance and fainted. Her family members quickly took her to the Nayagarh District Headquarters Hospital in an auto-rickshaw.

Doctors treated her in Nayagarh for two days. However, her health did not improve. The medical team then moved her to AIIMS in Bhubaneswar. Her condition worsened, so doctors transferred her again around 2:00 AM to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for advanced care.
At SCB Medical College, doctors performed a CT scan. They found a blood clot in her brain and informed the family. Ambika is currently in a serious condition. Her husband, Akrura Pahan, and the rest of the family are waiting anxiously for her to recover. They are relying completely on the medical team to help her get well and return home safely.

Nayagarh | April 27, 2026 (Report- Ramakrushna Rath): The CM Trophy Football Tournament continued into its third day in Nayagarh. Cooperative High School Girls FC Baigunia played a match against Baigunia Girls FC. Cooperative High School Girls FC won the game with a final score of 2-0.
Famous Odia film producer Pradipta Acharya attended the event as the chief guest. He greeted the players and shook their hands before the match began. Senior journalist Ramakrishna Rath gave the live commentary for the audience. Kamaruddin Khan worked as the match commissioner.

A dedicated team of officials managed the game. Pratap Muduli worked as the main referee. Prakash Biswal and Satyaban Sahu helped him as assistant referees. Jyoti Ranjan Kalasa managed the sideline as the fourth referee.
The Football Association of Odisha (FAO) and the District Athletic Association jointly host this inter-club and inter-district tournament at the Nayagarh playground.
