Bhanjanagar Group Clash: Police Arrest 4 After Late-Night Violence

BHANJANAGAR: 23/05 (Report- Jayakrishna Patnaik): The historic Thakurani Yatra festival in Bhanjanagar recently came to a peaceful close. However, a sudden clash between two local groups disrupted the town. The incident happened late at night on May 17. The local police took the matter very seriously. They arrested four individuals from both groups involved in the conflict. Ganjam Superintendent of Police, Shubhendu Kumar Patra, directed the local officers to take strict action against the guilty individuals.

The police forwarded the four arrested men to the local court today. The authorities identified the men as Mohammad Imran from NAC Road, Deepak Mohanty from Nahatutha Sahi, Arun Behera from Trimurti Sahi, and Yashwant Swain from Bhejiput Adua Sahi. The police registered four separate cases regarding this conflict based on reports from both sides.
The trouble started at the Bhanjanagar bus stand. Mohammad Imran was standing there alone. Deepak Mohanty and his friends approached Imran. They started an argument and pushed him. Imran chose to walk away because he was alone. He did not fight back at that time.
Later that night, the situation grew worse. Imran gathered a friend and visited Deepak Mohanty's house. Imran shouted at Mohanty's family members and issued severe threats. Imran then learned that Mohanty was at the local municipality office. Imran and his friend went to the office, confronted Mohanty, and started a physical fight.
Arun Behera and his friends heard about the fight at the office. They rushed to the location and attacked Imran and his friend. Imran felt scared for his safety. He left his motorcycle and mobile phone behind and ran away from the scene.
The conflict did not end there. A short time later, Deepak Mohanty, Arun Behera, and a large group of young men gathered together. They went to Imran's house. The group damaged property, spoke rudely to his wife, and left warning messages. After that, the group moved to the house of another resident named Ashok Pradhan. They broke the front door and damaged items inside the house. They looked for Ashok, shouted threats at him, and then quickly left the area.
Inspector in Charge (IIC) Jibanananda Jena shared an update on the ongoing investigation. He stated that the police are actively searching for the remaining suspects involved in the property damage. ABU DHABI, 23/05 (Report- Tirthankar Patel): Dhabi recently witnessed a grand celebration of Odia culture and language. The Odia Samaj Abu Dhabi (OSA) organised "Utkarsh-2026" to celebrate Utkal Divas. People enjoyed the event with great joy and enthusiasm. The beautiful "Pixoul" auditorium hosted this annual cultural festival. This modern venue sits right near the Arabian Sea coast. For a few hours, the entire auditorium looked just like a mini Odisha.

Over 500 Odia people attended the grand program. They traveled from different parts of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to join the celebration. Mr. Saugat Nayak, the President of Odia Samaj Abu Dhabi, led and chaired the event.

However, a sad situation exists in Odisha. Hundreds of turtles live in the pond of the historic Champanath Temple. This temple stands in Champeswar under the Narsinghpur block of Cuttack district. These turtles, locally known as 'Kurum', represent a living history of more than 300 years. Sadly, they live in very unsafe conditions today.

A popular local legend connects this place to ancient times. People believe that Banasura, the king of the nearby Baneswar Nashi fort, came to this temple every day to worship. For centuries, the temple pond has been home to more than 200 turtles. Devotees and tourists visit the temple regularly. They offer food to these gentle animals and treat them as living representatives of the gods. Because of this rich history, the State Tourism Department lists this temple as an official tourist destination.
Despite this official status, the authorities provide zero maintenance. The pond suffers from heavy pollution right now. Visitors throw plastic bags and religious items directly into the water. The turtles do not receive regular food. They also lack proper medical care and routine health checks. The temple committee states that the turtles survive only on the food given by kind visitors. Correct Technique: They need to pump the machine 25 times per minute. They must also stand exactly one and a half feet away from the wall while spraying.

Unknown individuals threw an explosive device at the residence of Gopabandhu Mahapatra. He currently serves as the Chairman of the Bhanjanagar Municipality. Fortunately, the incident did not cause any physical injuries to anyone. The exact reason behind this targeted action remains unknown at this time.

The event took place at exactly 11:41 PM. According to early information, two unidentified men arrived near the local Dinabandhu Behera Girls High School. They traveled together on a motorcycle. She stated that these men severely attacked her and threw her out of the car near Konark. The police immediately started looking into these claims.

A Suspicious Investigator

As the police worked on the case, a man named Ashish Reddy contacted them. Reddy told the local police that he was a senior officer with the National Investigation Agency. He closely watched the local police team and pressured them to arrest the people mentioned in the woman's report.

Police arrested Ashish Reddy immediately. He provided an address in New Delhi, but officers believe he uses many fake addresses. During the arrest, the police searched his belongings and seized several dangerous and illegal items.

Road Safety: Officers took action against 1,756 people for driving under the influence. They collected over 3.27 crore rupees in traffic fines.
Mining and Goods: The police tackled illegal mining by registering 331 cases and catching 83 people. They seized 379 heavy vehicles, including trucks and tractors. They also rescued 82 cows and stopped illegal transport.

Regional Teamwork

Different regions showed great teamwork during the drive. The Central Range in Cuttack executed the most warrants. They cleared 942 cases. The South-Western Range stopped the most illegal substances. They seized 2,344 kilograms of ganja. The Western Range in Rourkela led in traffic enforcement. They collected nearly 95.75 lakh rupees in fines. The Southern and Northern ranges also successfully removed illegal weapons from the streets.

CHSE Odisha Plus Two Results: Overall Pass Percentage & Highlights

Bhubaneswar, 20/05: The Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) in Odisha announced the Class 12 examination results today. The board released the scores for the Arts, Science, Commerce, and Vocational Education streams at the exact same time. The School and Mass Education Minister declared these results during an official meeting at the main CHSE office. Students across the state can now check their scores and plan their next steps.

This announcement holds great importance for thousands of students. The Class 12 results help students decide their future career paths and college choices. Teachers, parents, and students waited eagerly for this big day. The education board worked very hard to check the exam papers carefully and publish the results on time.

Science Stream Performance

In the Science stream, students performed exceptionally well. The board reported an overall pass percentage of 88.80 percent. Girls performed better than boys in this group. Female students achieved a strong pass rate of 90.24 percent. Meanwhile, male students secured a pass rate of 87.41 percent. Many of these students will now move on to study medicine, engineering, and pure sciences.

Commerce Stream Performance

The Commerce stream also showed excellent results this year. The students recorded an overall pass percentage of 88.07 percent. The girls took the lead here as well. They scored a high pass percentage of 90.43 percent. On the other hand, the boys achieved a pass percentage of 86.67 percent. These strong numbers show that students prepared thoroughly for their business and finance subjects.

Arts Stream Performance

For the Arts stream, the board announced an overall pass percentage of 84.50 percent. The performance gap between girls and boys looked the biggest in this specific group. Girls secured a very impressive pass rate of 89.45 percent. The boys recorded a pass percentage of 77.97 percent. The Arts stream remains a highly popular choice for many students across the state.

A Clear Victory for Girls

One clear trend appeared across all the major streams this year. Girls completely outshone the boys with a large margin in Arts, Science, and Commerce. Education experts praised the hard work, daily focus, and dedication of the female students. Families and schools feel very proud of this wonderful success.
Now that the board has published the final marks, students will start applying to different universities. The state government and the education board congratulated all the successful students. They also encouraged the students who did not pass to stay positive and try again next year.
