Pepsi Extra Fizz definitely brought the extra to SM Mall of Asia! From taking photos at the different stations and getting my first taste of the new Pepsi Extra Fizz to trying the dance challenge and meeting Mimiyuuuh, there was a lot going on at the #GoExtra launch last July 25.

Held at the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall, the launch brought together media, KOLs, and guests for an afternoon filled with activities, food, music, and plenty of Pepsi Extra Fizz.

There were lots of stations where we could take photos and try different activities. Completing all the booths also meant getting freebies, so I made sure to go around and check them out.

There was also pica-pica like kwek-kwek, lumpia, fishballs, and other snacks, which made the experience even more enjoyable -- especially with a cold Pepsi Extra Fizz in hand.

Government, business, and development leaders recently convened in Cebu for the ASEAN-EU Sustainability Summit 2026, a regional forum focused on practical approaches to environmental and economic challenges across Southeast Asia.

The summit was organized by the EU-ASEAN Business Council (EU-ABC) and the European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (ECCP), in partnership with the Philippines’ role as ASEAN Chair, and brought together public and private sector stakeholders to discuss policy alignment, implementation realities, and investment conditions.

Discussions throughout the summit similarly underscored that successful EPR systems require coordinated action across governments, businesses, financial institutions, waste management stakeholders, and communities. Speakers also highlighted the importance of ensuring that frameworks remain practical and locally relevant, recognizing the differing levels of infrastructure and market maturity across ASEAN economies.

Coca-Cola Philippines referenced examples from its local experience supporting collection and recycling efforts locally. These include Tapon to Ipon, a collection initiative now operating through more than 6,000 community drop-off points nationwide, and partnerships focused on waste recovery and recycling infrastructure. The company also noted the role of its philanthropic arm, the Coca-Cola Foundation Philippines, in supporting programs that engage informal waste workers in the recycling value chain.

The company also cited PETValue Philippines, the country’s first bottle-to-bottle PET recycling facility established through a joint venture between Coca-Cola Europacific Aboitiz Philippines and Indorama Ventures, as an example of private sector investment contributing to domestic recycling capacity.

Speakers across the summit emphasized that EPR outcomes depend on consistent implementation, investment-enabling policies, political stability, knowledge-sharing and collaboration across markets, particularly given differences in infrastructure maturity across ASEAN economies.

In a moment when it's easy to grow weary or guarded, Don Quixote invites us, in his quirky 'quixotic' manner, to hold fast to courage, imagination, and the possibility of something better.

The production opens inside a prison, immediately setting a darker tone than one might expect. A large cage initially separates the performers from the audience. To be honest, it took me a few moments to adjust as it partially obscured the actors' expressions. But once Cervantes begins telling the story of Don Quixote and the staging opens up, the audience is drawn into a world where imagination and idealism take center stage.

Like many students, I was introduced to Don Quixote in high school. While I knew it was considered one of literature's greatest works, I never fully grasped its significance. Watching Man of La Mancha on stage finally helped me understand why this story has endured for generations.

Nonie Buencamino Embodies Don Quixote

At the heart of the production is Nonie Buencamino, who returns to musical theater as Alonso Quijano, better known as Don Quixote.

From the moment he steps onto the stage, Buencamino commands attention with a performance that feels effortless yet deeply affecting. There is a sincerity in his portrayal that makes Don Quixote's unwavering belief in goodness, justice, and impossible dreams feel completely genuine.

More than simply playing the role, Buencamino embodies the character. His passion, conviction, vulnerability, and emotional depth shine through every scene, creating a portrayal that is both inspiring and profoundly human. It is difficult to adequately describe the amount of soul he pours into the role.

For me, Buencamino's performance became the anchor that made Don Quixote's journey accessible and emotionally resonant. By the end of the evening, it was impossible not to admire the character's relentless pursuit of hope in a world determined to crush it.

A Cast That Brings the Story to Life

Buencamino is joined by a stellar cast led by Marvin Ong as Sancho Panza and Katrine Sunga as Aldonza.

Ong brings heart, humor, and warmth to the loyal squire, creating a wonderful dynamic with Buencamino throughout the show. Their chemistry is remarkable, and many of the production's most memorable moments come from the relationship between Don Quixote and Sancho.

Meanwhile, Sunga delivers a powerful performance as Aldonza, bringing strength, vulnerability, and commanding vocals to the role. Her presence adds emotional depth to the story and provides some of the musical's most compelling moments.

Rounding out the cast are Tarek El Tayech as Governor/Innkeeper, Alfredo Reyes as Duke/Carrasco, Mikkie Bradshaw-Volante as Antonia, Sarah Facuri as Housekeeper, Steven Hotchkiss as Padre, Julio Laforteza as Pedro/Male Dancer, Dippy Arceo as Jose, Jasper Jimenez as Juan/Barber, Ralph Oliva as Paco, Khalil Tambio as Anselmo, Liway Perez as Maria/Female Dancer, and Rafa Sumilong as Captain. Joining them as swings are JV Fulgencio and Aly Wijangco.

Every member of the cast contributed to the storytelling. Whether in major musical numbers, ensemble scenes, or smaller character moments, each performer helped create a production that felt cohesive, engaging, and emotionally resonant.

A Quest That Becomes the Audience's Journey

Despite running for approximately two hours without an intermission, Man of La Mancha rarely loses momentum. Between its engaging performances, memorable musical numbers, and emotionally resonant storytelling, the production keeps audiences invested in Don Quixote's journey from beginning to end.

What makes Man of La Mancha particularly moving is how Don Quixote's quest gradually becomes the audience's journey as well.

As the story unfolds, viewers are taken through moments of humor, pain, despair, hope, and enlightenment. What begins as the tale of a man chasing an impossible dream slowly transforms into a reflection on courage, perseverance, and the power of seeing the world not only as it is, but as it could be.

The relationship between Don Quixote and Sancho provides many of the production's lighter moments, while the story's emotional turns ensure that the audience remains invested in the characters' struggles and aspirations. By the end of the evening, Don Quixote's quest no longer feels like his alone -- it becomes a journey shared by everyone watching.

The thoughtful staging, evocative lighting, and strong musical direction help transform a decades-old classic into an experience that feels fresh and relevant for today's audiences.

If you ask kids today what they enjoy doing most, chances are many of the answers involve a screen. Whether it's Minecraft, Roblox, YouTube, or mobile games, digital spaces have become a huge part of childhood. But what if those same digital worlds could inspire kids to get up, move, and play in real life?

Last May 31, Cheez Whiz brought that idea to life at the BGC Amphitheater through the Cheez Whiz Strong Kid Camp 2026, an immersive event that encouraged children to rediscover the joy of movement through active play, while also highlighting the importance of proper nutrition in their growth and development.

As a mom, I was curious to see how kids would respond. So of course, I brought my son Rhyme, who at 12 years old enjoys both worlds -- he can spend hours building in Minecraft or playing Roblox, but he's also active in sports like basketball and badminton.

From Minecraft to a Real-Life Playground

One of the most interesting things about the Strong Kid Camp is how it started.

Recognizing that many children today spend a significant amount of time in digital spaces, Cheez Whiz worked with Strong Streamer Alliance partners Esoni TV and Kim Cyrus to create a virtual playground inside Minecraft. Instead of treating technology as the problem, the campaign used a platform kids already love as a starting point to encourage movement beyond the screen.

Before the obstacle challenges officially began, parents and kids participated in an activity that reflected this idea. Parents were asked to write what they believed their children were capable of, while the kids drew their own dream playgrounds.

Seeing the kids put their ideas on paper before heading into the activity zones made the connection between imagination and play feel more meaningful. After all, the entire camp was built around a playground that first existed in a virtual world before being recreated in real life.

The main attraction of the camp was the 7 Power-Up Zones, where kids could run, jump, climb, crawl, balance, and test their confidence through different challenges.

Each completed activity earned participants a band, giving kids a sense of accomplishment as they moved from one challenge to the next.

Watching Rhyme go through the different zones was probably my favorite part of the morning. Some obstacles, like the Balance Bridge and Bounce & Blast, were relatively easy for him. Others required more effort and determination. Climb & Conquer and Cheesy Bars turned out to be more challenging, even for a child who regularly plays sports.

What I noticed was that many of the kids approached the obstacles the same way. Some finished quickly while others needed several attempts, but there was a lot of cheering, encouragement, and excitement throughout the course. By the end, every completed challenge felt like a small victory.

The camp was designed around the idea that active play doesn't have to be intimidating. Instead, children were encouraged to build confidence step by step as they navigated each obstacle and discovered what they were capable of doing.

The Strong Kid Camp is part of Cheez Whiz's ongoing "For the Strength to Do More" advocacy, which encourages children to play more, explore more, and gain confidence through new experiences.

His message was easy to see throughout the camp. The activities weren't simply about finishing an obstacle. They encouraged children to try, adjust, try again, and keep moving.

The event wasn't only about physical activity.

While the morning session welcomed invited guests and participants, the Strong Kid Camp also opened its Power-Up Zones to the public later that afternoon, allowing more children and families to experience the activities.

Cheez Whiz also shared plans to explore opportunities to support and enhance public playgrounds in collaboration with local partners, helping make active play more accessible to Filipino families beyond the Strong Kid Camp experience.

By the end of the morning, Rhyme had completed all seven challenges, collected his bands, and made his way through every Power-Up Zone.

What I appreciated about the event was its approach. Rather than positioning technology as something children should avoid, Cheez Whiz found a way to use a digital platform that kids already enjoy and transform it into an opportunity for real-world movement and play.

For a few hours, kids were climbing, balancing, crawling, running, and interacting with one another instead of staring at a screen. Judging by the smiles, laughter, and determination throughout the camp, many of them were having just as much fun.

And perhaps that's the message behind the Strong Kid Camp 2026: active play doesn't have to compete with children's digital interests. Sometimes, it can start from them.

When they’re not swimming, snorkeling, or building sandcastles on the shore, local and foreign tourists are most likely tanning, soaking in the sun’s rays for hours to get that perfectly bronzed shade.

Achieving that sun-kissed glow comes with a price to your health, says Ma. Margarita Isabel Carlos-Tanchiong, MD, at top hospital in the Philippines, Makati Medical Center (MakatiMed),

That tan on your skin is a sunburn. It may look nice, but it also damages your skin. The intense heat and humidity can also lead to frustrating skin issues like acne and fungal infections.

Do not let the sun spoil your summer days. MakatiMed cites common sun-related skin conditions and what to do about them.

A Bad Sunburn

Too much sun exposure doesn’t just tan your skin; it can cause it to flake and peel or develop painful blisters.

If this happens, get out of the sun immediately and stay in a cool room, or bathe in cool water

Gently apply aloe vera or a ceramide-containing lotion or moisturizer, and do not pop the blisters. Take a pain reliever to ease the sting of the burn. You may also need topical and oral medications to treat the sunburn.

Next time you go out into the sun, prepare by slathering a broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 30.

Re-apply to your face and exposed skin every two hours, especially if you’ve been swimming or sweating. Don’t forget to include your ears and the back of your neck. Wearing sunglasses, a wide-brimmed hat, and choosing clothing made with Ultraviolet Protection are helpful tips to keep your skin protected from further ultraviolet damage. It is also best to stay out of the sun between 10 am and 4 pm. That’s when the UV rays are strongest, causing the most skin damage.

Acne

The heat and humidity of the Philippine summers make us sweat more than usual. This causes an overproduction of sebum (oil) on the face, which clogs our skin’s pores. The result? Unsightly pimples.

Use a sunscreen that is non-comedogenic -- meaning it doesn’t cause blackheads or whiteheads -- and choose gel-based and oil-free moisturizers over their creamy counterparts during the hot summer months. If the pimples are on your back or neck, wear loose, cotton clothing to stay cool.

Fungal Infection

Fungus thrives in heat and humidity, so do not be surprised if you find yourself scratching an unbearable itch from red or discolored rashes.

Ringworm gets its name from its appearance as a circular rash with raised edges that spread outward. Jock itch’s rashes are found in warm, sweaty parts of the body like the groin, inner thighs, or buttocks. Areas of the body where skin folds and moisture tend to form, like under the breasts or in between layers in the tummy, are where yeast infections usually start. You’ll note the appearance of red scaly patches with satellite bumps that are usually itchy.

Aside from keeping your skin cool and lessening friction on skin, over-the-counter and prescription anti-fungal creams are best at addressing these conditions. See your doctor, who will be able to identify them during a consultation.

To prevent infections from developing or worsening, keep those areas in your body clean and dry, wash your towels and clothing regularly, and resist the urge to scratch, or you may spread the infection
