Republican Sen. George Voinovich's suprise decision to retire has opened the field to a number of hopefuls from both parties. Only one, Republican Rob Portman has officially declared his candidacy.

Several Democrats are looking at the 2010 race, and Chris Celeste, son of former Gov. Richard Celeste, is the most recent name added to the list -- and the only candidate who is not a long-time politician.

In today's podcast, Plain Dealer politics writer Mark Naymik examines Celeste's candidacy and its inevitable connections to the political name game. Then he takes a look at the ongoing saga of Cuyahoga County Sheriff Gerald McFaul. What would happen if McFaul resigned?

Presidential campaign fund-raising in Ohio was on the agenda for Democratic candidate Barack Obama and GOP candidate Rudy Giuliani.

While in Columbus on Friday, Obama won the endorsement of Mayor Michael Coleman, who told supporters at a rally that Obama "has the optimism and the ability to get things done. "

Earlier in the week, Guiliani met with businessmen at Cleveland's Union Club. For $2,300, they could be photographed with the former New York City mayor. A mere $500 donation was required just to attend the event, with those under 35 paying half-price.

Mark Naymik, however, had a different experence. Mark describes it in this week's podcast: Download file
