Ever since I came to Goa post-pandemic, I have been asked these queries by a lot of travel enthusiasts, so here you go guys!! Let’s find out the best stay options for you in Goa.

Whenever we come across this word “Goa” an image of Baga or Calangute pops up in our head (because your friends have already been there or you have explored these on your last Goa trip)

But let me remind you my friend – Goa is a state of India with about 100 km of coastline, countless unexplored lush green places and over 50 spectacular beaches.

First Things First..! How many days do you have?

3-4 Days

Three to four days are ideal for people planning a quick vacation to unwind and relax near the beaches. The best idea would be to stay in one region either north or south and explore the nearby beaches.

1 Week or more

If you have more than a week, you can easily explore both the north and south beaches. You will have to change your base as well.

Still confused where should you go?

North Goa or South Goa

North Goa is popular for beach parties, nightlife, water sports, lively crowds and much more. Here are some famous beaches in North – Arambol, Mandrem, Ashwem, Morjim, Vagator, Anjuna, Calangute, Baga, Sinqurium. Plenty of resorts and accommodation options available. Budget hotels and hostels are a little cheaper here.

The weather is so amazing in monsoon and winters in Goa, be it north or south.

South Goa is known for the tranquillity, unexplored hidden gems, and secret beaches. Beach hopping through the lush green paddy fields in the monsoon feels like heaven here! If you want to explore secluded beaches or just have a leisure holiday near the quiet seashore, this is your best bet. South Goa boasts some of the amazing luxury hotels and resorts. Budget hotels and hostels are available too.

How I Traveled to Goa during Covid times

“Is this happening for real? Am I actually doing a trip in 2020?”

This is the first thought that popped up in my mind while starting off for this road trip.

It has been a splendid month in Goa post pandemic and life looks getting so much better closest to the beach with each passing day.

I have never stayed for so long in Goa earlier and Guess what! it’s my first time in South Goa. Yey!!

I thought I knew Goa – But then South Goa Happened!

We will definitely talk about South Goa but in separate blogs, for now let’s just get into the details of my latest Road Trip to Goa.

The Journey Mumbai/Pune to Goa Road Trip

Traveling during the COVID-19 pandemic can be unsettling!

If you are in India, you know how terrifying it could be to travel again (that too a leisure trip) post-pandemic considering the rising number of COVID cases.

Honestly, I was pretty skeptical this time in my old car but at the same time had this adrenaline rush of stepping outside not only my house but also the city for the first time after months of lockdown.

I did this journey by road but if you have no other option left other than taking a flight, just be extra careful to ensure safety of yourselves and others.

I think road trips perfectly fit into the new normal. What do you think?

To give you an overview, my entire journey of around 450-500km was contactless. The staff at the gas station and toll plaza are strictly following safety measures. You will find plenty of petrol pumps (with washrooms of course) on the highway.

Talking about the road condition – It’s a six-lane superb highway till Nipani, don’t forget the major right exit after Nipani.

Once you leave the highway, the roads are mostly single lane and after covering about 80km you enter the famous ghats of Amboli.

Amboli hill station in Maharashtra is a must-visit place in the monsoon season. It’s so scenic and mostly foggy (also full of monkeys too). Such lush green views and magnificent waterfalls feel like heaven!

No wonder stopping at Amboli ghat was the best part of this road trip.

Can’t beat the fresh breathe of air, sprinkle of cold chilling water and incredibly beautiful views – a perfect getaway for monsoon seasons. Have you been here yet?

With that said, the entire ghat area is little risky, drive safely.

And it took around 2 hrs from Amboli to reach Arambol in Goa (my first stop). Arambol beach (hippie’s Paradise) is one of the most happening beaches in Goa. Sunsets here is to die for!!

Don’t forget to carry your meals and water bottles. Few restaurants on the highway are open. You can also spot some stalls en route for buying water bottles.

Make sure you are carrying essential medicines, power bank, a spare tire (for worst case), good variety of song playlists ( I switched from
90s songs to peppy numbers to gazal to arabic to regional ones) and it’s always good to have a great travel partner for such a long journey!

Lastly, be ready to sit for around 10-12 hours long with small breaks in between and don’t forget the sunscreen!

Goa is now officially open for tourism moreover, the government has ruled out the mandatory Covid test in Unlock 4.0
The Coronavirus pandemic has brought all the economic activities to a grinding halt. We know that tourism is considered the backbone of Goa’s economy but having said that, this new move is a matter of concern and worry for the locals here (Goa went from zero COVID cases to its third wave in 3 months)

To tell you the fact, this pandemic has changed our beloved Goa up to some extent. The lively Party capital is not the same!

After spending quite some days here, I really would like to share some basic facts and information which could help you plan your Goa trip.

What you must know before traveling to Goa?

First things first – Please understand it’s still not 100% safe outside your house be it Goa or any other place in India, wait for the next few months for things to get settled down. Nevertheless, as my work involves creating new travel content, I have shifted here temporarily.
Appreciate the sentiments of locals(it’s their land after all), practice and maintain social distancing, avoid close contact with anyone.
Always wear a mask and carry sanitizer.
Although the bar and restaurants are now open in Goa, it’s better to skip them for the time being. Initially, I had bookings in a resort so was left with no option other than restaurant food, but now I have shifted in an apartment and got my groceries here. Anyway it’s always healthy to eat at home while traveling too.

5 Reasons to Plan your Goa Trip Now

After months of lockdown, this is the best time to explore the beautiful and pristine beaches and of course the hidden places in Goa. Beaches once known as crowded (like Baga and Calangute) are now quite and look secluded as very few tourists are around post-pandemic.
To support the local economy. Help revive the tourism industry.
The weather is pleasant, unlike the summer months. Experiencing the drizzle and rain on the beach and seashore feels like heaven.
The locals are extremely welcoming and generous.
For a quick break from months of lockdown and staying at home.

5 Reasons to Postpone your Goa Trip

Cases are rising, not the safest time to go out and wander.
Not your safest zone definitely, higher risk with more physical contact with people.
The lively nightlife is missing as of September 2020 and might take some time to revive.
Need to be more cautious for everything hotel booking/eating, roaming.
Shacks/Water sports not available.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I wear a mask everywhere?
Yes you should especially in public places while in secluded beaches, you can relax a bit and breathe.

Do I need to carry a Covid negative certificate?
No, it’s no longer required.

Are there any quarantine rules?
Not anymore.

Do I need to book accommodation before coming? Can I book a property on Airbnb?
Yes, it’s always advisable to contact the hotel/Airbnb owner before making the final payment.
Note: When I searched on booking sites, they suggested plenty of properties to book but when inquired personally they were actually closed.

Are Shacks available?
Not as of September 2020.

Are Bar/Clubs/Pubs open?
Yes but very limited.

Bikes and Scooter available on rent?
Yes 300 – 500INR per day.

Are Swimming Pools in resorts open?
No due to safety reasons.

Are water sports open?
Yet to open.

Are tourist attractions open?
Most of them such as Doodh sagar waterfalls and some churches are closed but you can always visit the sunkissed beaches, gorgeous forts, natural spots and hiking places (details coming in new blog).

Is Goa safe for me?
At certain levels, it depends on you! If your mask is on and you are practicing great social distancing, it’s pretty much safe.

Luxembourg Travel Guide

Let me take you to one of the smallest countries in Europe! Luxembourg – also known as the Gibraltar of the North, is famous for the Most Beautiful Balcony in Europe (Chemin de la Corniche).
Okay so Luxembourg is a hilly country bordered by France, Germany and Belgium. I truly feel it is the green heart of Europe. Extremely famous for the raw natural beauty, picturesque rocky gorges and dense forests. By the way did you know – the City of Luxembourg with its old quarters and fortifications is a UNESCO World Heritage since 1994?

Pre-Travel Anxiety

I still recall, a night before traveling to Luxembourg I had butterflies in my stomach! Planned the itinerary, did my homework and packed all the essentials in my daypack. The next day early morning I started from Heidelberg for this super exciting trip to Luxembourg. You know the best part about European countries is that you can literally have breakfast in one country and lunch in another.

Talking about the journey – Reaching Luxembourg was not as easy as Berlin or Munich was for me (naturally since we are talking about the cross-border travel). I had to change two trains and a bus! Yes there is no direct train from Heidelberg to Luxembourg. So I had connecting trains from Heidelberg to Mannheim and from Mannheim to Saarbrücken. From Saarbrücken, I traveled by bus to Luxembourg city.

How I missed my Train to Saarbrücken?

Well I started early morning (before sunrise) and my place was about 15 mins walk from the Heidelberg Hauptbahnhof (main railway station), took a train and reached Mannheim station at around 6:30 am. Now I had approx half an hour in my hands for the next connecting train. I took my coffee and a croissant (anyone who has been to Europe must have had tried the crispy and yummy croissant) and I was right at the platform 15 mins before, waiting for the train to Saarbrücken but to my surprise, it never came, so I checked in the enquiry counter and got the update that this train has already left from another platform, there was an announcement too but in German!

And I felt like God I wish I knew the language. Anyway, instantly they gave me a new ticket at no extra cost and I had a smooth journey thereafter. It was a beautiful train ride with snow-covered countryside views. Also, I got a cozy bus from Saarbrücken which took around 2 hours to reach this fairyland nation Luxembourg.

Things to know before Travel

Visa Information

Luxembourg is part of the Schengen area of European countries. Therefore, you may or may not require a Schengen visa depending upon your nationality to enter the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg. Click here for complete Visa information

Currency

Euro (€) is the official currency here just like the neighbouring schengen countries. You might already be knowing that Luxembourg is among the most expensive countries in the world. Even Budget hotels can cost you over €100/night and you won’t get much change from €20 after a modest dinner and a drink.

How to Reach

Luxembourg International Airport (LUX) is around 6km away from the city centre, easily accessible at as lowest as €2 single ride or €4 for a day pass valid on almost all modes of transportation. While you can get the ticket from the multilingual automated machine at the bus stop, it can also be bought directly from the bus driver.

Get Around

Day passes are quite common here, which can be used in all public transports. It costs 4.00€ per person and you can buy it from any one of these –

Bus driver
ticket vending machines
operators’ ticket office
mTicket app

Note : Bus number 29 and 16 are the frequent buses for local places in the city.

Best Time to Visit

January and February are usually very cold and temperatures can fall to as low as -15°C whereas summers can be little hot in Luxembourg, with temperatures in July and August reaching around 30+°C.

Spring and fall are the best seasons to explore Luxembourg. The months of May to September witness the peak of tourists.

Language

Surprisingly, the natives speak diverse languages such as French, German, Luxembourgish, Portuguese, Italian, and English. But having said that, you can pretty much communicate with any Luxembourger in English.

Fun Things to do in Luxembourg

Visit Chemin de la Corniche

Chemin de la Corniche is also known as the the most beautiful balcony of Europe, I was so amazed to see the fairytale panoramic view of the historical architectures of Luxembourg.

And like they say “The Best Things in Life are Free” so is this one, there is no entry cost! This gorgeous observation deck is around 10 minutes walk from the Luxembourg city tourist information center. Although it was a sunny day, it felt so chilling at -4 degrees Celsius. Oh and I must tell you, walking through the magnificent path to reach this spot was truly a liberating experience.

Stroll Around Three Towers

One of the best things about Luxembourg city is that you can explore the charming landmarks on foot. Either you can join a group of walking tours or can very much be on your own and stroll around. The three towers spot is not very far from Chemin de la Corniche. While I was clicking pictures here, met some sightseers from Amsterdam and we instantly connected and shared our experiences. Ah it was so much fun exploring sites with random strangers.

Explore Churches and Cathedrals

Apart from the lush green forests, astonishing architectures and medieval castles dating back hundreds of years, this beautiful country is particularly famous for the religiously ancient Churches and Cathedrals.
Notre-Dame Cathedral, Trinity Church, St Peter and Paul Church, Quirinus Chapel, St Jean du Grund, Saint Michael’s Church, Paroisse du Sacré-Coeur are some of the noteworthy churches you should definitely visit.

A Walk to Remember at Iconic Bridges

Luxembourg Bridges are famous all over the world for their architectural charms and historic significance . While exploring Chemin I came across this beautiful bridge which is just 15 mins walk from the city center. However I wasn’t sure if I was roaming around the famous Adolphe Bridge.

Visit Monument of Remembrance

The Monument of Remembrance, also known as Gëlle Fra, is a war memorial in Luxembourg City. This historic monument is dedicated to the thousands of Luxembourgers who volunteered for service in the armed forces of the Allied Powers during both World Wars and the Korean War.

Gëlle Fra can be seen from a distance, however, take the time to read the inscriptions and walk around the whole sculpture to understand the history and its significance. Indeed you can get a magnificent view of the city including the famous Adolphe bridge.
Note: Christmas market offers the best view of Gëlle Fra

Take Photos at Theatre Square Sculptures

The famous theatre square is about 15 mins walk from Luxembourg city square. This is one of the most happening areas in the capital city, you can find lots of cafes and shops here. Theatre square boasts the well-known sculptures of renowned artists.

Hike the Mullerthal Trail

Mullerthal Trail also known as Luxembourg’s Little Switzerland is one of the most popular and conquered hiking regions in east Luxembourg. The exquisite landscape is surrounded by sandstone rock formations, crisscrossed by the rivers, rugged terrain and thick forests.

It’s so interesting to know that the trail stretches for 112 km having 3 big loops (Route 1,2 and 3) and 4 extra addons. You can check more information here. All the hiking and nature lovers take a note.

Eager to try some local cuisines? If you happen to be at Luxembourg don’t miss these popular cafes and restaurants!!

Chocolate House
Located near Grand Ducal Palace, Chocolate House is in the heart of Luxembourg City. you can enjoy the view and try their yummylicious pastries, chocolate bars and cakes, don’t miss Hotchocspoon (available in 20 flavors) their lunch menu includes delicious and filling salads and quiches.

La Durree (Dessert)
This French chain is very close to the Chemin de la Corniche about 10 mins walk. If you are a fan of macarons, this is your best bet.

L’Annexe
Check out this french restaurant in 7 Rue du St Esprit, Luxembourg
L’Annexe is famous for its friendly ambience and serving creative and delicious meals at reasonable prices.

Located in the heart of Luxembourg city, Youth Hostel is one of the finest places to stay and enjoy in Luxembourg. They have opened their services after COVID as of July 2020. This hostel is so spacious, has large rooms, great breakfast buffet and the property is in a fantastic location. The standard price per night is 2200 INR. I think this is probably the most affordable option for backpackers and solo travelers.

It’s a pandemic time, we really don’t know for how long we have to stay at home. Now ever since the lockdown phase started, we are following the same routine – work, eat, sleep, repeat!
On the contrary, you can use the lockdown period to excel at various significant things in life and become a New You. I have been doing a lot of research lately on productive things to do at home in lockdown. Thought of sharing them with you.

First of all, always go for the no-nonsense news. Please don’t spread and believe in rumours, we are already having a hard time dealing with more severe issues. 3. Don’t Stock Unnecessarily

Guys, it’s my humble request, please don’t buy more than you need. Imagine if every one of us overstocks then there will be no or fewer items left for others which may create panic situations and result in black marketing of essential commodities. Stocking ultimately weakens our fight against Corona. I know, we are dealing with a crisis but don’t buy more than you need. Please stop stocking up.

4. Form 21 Days Habit

We all know this magic number, isn’t it? It takes 21 days to make or break a habit. Besides, it’s a universally accepted tried and tested method that actually works! You can use this phase to get rid of your addictions (the bad ones). And this could also be the best time to cultivate new habits since the routine is in your hands now.

Trust me the beginning of this could be hard but once you are through, you will be happy to see the new developments.

5. Explore your hobbies

Admit it – this is the best time to delve into your passion and hobbies (indoor ones)! For e.g. I always wanted to curate the content for my Luxembourg Travel Guide. Now that I have got ample amount of time, it’s published!

Pick up a hobby, get indulged in your favorite pastimes which you have always sidelined because of the hectic routines.

For instance, try innovative cooking, dancing, reading a book or painting. If you like to travel prepare yourself for your upcoming journey or instead watch your favorite Travel Movies. Do something creative wholeheartedly.

Undoubtedly Hobbies not only help to relieve stress by keeping you engaged in something but also build your confidence because being good at something and learning something new is extremely rewarding.

6. Learn a Language

In these lockdown days what could be more productive than learning a new skill or a new language? I am learning German language and genuinely finding the grammar part interesting. There is so much to learn and process. Pick up your favorite language that you have always wanted to speak or understand and start learning online or with a friend.

For starters, use Duolingo app or website to learn any language. It’s fun addictive and very useful.

Not to mention you can simply learn a language from youtube or unacademy too.

7. Spend Quality Time with family

If you are with your family right now, trust me you are truly lucky because people like me are far away from them and miss the sheer joy of spending time with our loved ones. So, talk to them, lend a helping hand to your Mom, give them your love and strike up those conversations with your Mom and Dad which you have always wanted to.

And in case you are not with your loved ones, you can use Facetime, WhatsApp video call, Skype, Houseparty app and a lot of other digital ways to stay connected with them. Make it a point to listen to them, let them know your day to day highlights.

In short, Stay united whether you are near or far from your support system.

8. Try New Cuisines

Any foodie here? Well I am sure a lot (including me) and in case you are not, you need a break too from the regular meals! Since we are at home and can’t dine out. Amidst lockdown this is the best time to cook our favorite dishes at home. However, we know that an ingredient here or there might be missing. Not to mention I am experimenting random dishes and sometimes I feel I don’t have some of the major ingredients but that’s fine as long as your experimental food tastes delicious, isn’t it?

I have tried making below items and they taste amazing with minimal ingredients too

Aloo/ vegetable stuffed paratha
Whole wheat vegetable sandwich
Idli Dosa, Appey, Dhokla
Suji, gram flour snacks
Customized pani puries , Pizzas
Sprouts Chaat
Tomato rice/ curd rice
Chocolate icecream
Flour/cookies cake

you can add flaxseed and lemon juice in some of the above salty dishes.

9. BE SOCIAL

It’s great that you are maintaining social distancing but that’s not restricting you to be social right? Your friend is just a call or Facetime away! Connect with your friends, furthermore, try interacting with people from all walks of life. And hello… If I am one of them? Grab your phone and take a moment to say “Hi DJ” 😊

10. Workout !!

And here we are at the most desirable topic – Fitness!
Exercise helps to lose weight and lowers the risk of certain diseases like type 2 diabetes, and high blood pressure and besides who doesn’t want to look fit?
you have now all the time in the world to workout. Incorporate exercise into your daily routine and boost your immunity. Do the HIIT Cardio and strength training.Use workout apps (there are so many) or YouTube videos. 11. Learn History and Culture of your Favorite Country

Those who personally know me might be already smiling with this one.

Okay I have done this for so many countries and regions and its one of my favorite pastimes

To start with you can watch documentaries on Netflix, amazon prime or youtube for that matter.

Unquestionably investing time to watch documentaries are the best things to do to get a bigger perspective and understand different cultures, geography and history, to say the least.

12. Practice Meditation

In the first place, we do not know when this pandemic will end moreover with so much negativity around and stressful environment you might feel anxious. Start meditating to keep panic mode at bay.
I discovered the true essence of meditation during my Kashid Trip, such a divine experience it was.

Meditation is the need of the hour. Personally, I think Morning is the best time to practice meditation as it sets the tone for the rest of your day.

Scientific studies show that regular Meditation does wonders such as –

Makes you more content and happier
Gives a boost to your work and career
Reduces Stress
Controls Anxiety
Enhances Self-Awareness
Improves Sleep
Can Decrease Blood Pressure

13. Work on your CV

If you have internet you are privileged!

Quarantine days are undoubtedly the best time to focus on your career goals.

Build the skill sets which can help you climb the career ladder. Upgrade your technical skills, make your resume strong.

Register for online classes to upscale your competencies. Use learning platforms such as Skillshare, Coursera udemy EDX, Pluralsight and then there is youtube with so much free content.
And in case you have taken a subscription to online classes, it’s time to resume that before your subscription gets over.

14. READ

Cultivate a habit of reading, read anything, dedicate at least 30 minutes for it.

Reading helps you grow as a better and wise person. I cannot emphasize more on this. I enjoy reading autobiographies, thriller, and history books so much. But nowadays, due to my workload, I am hardly getting time to read new things (Wait I am also reading German so that compensates I hope)

Search on google the best books to start with for a beginner. Read as per your interest such as scientific, literature, historical, political interest physiology etc. Choose Knowledge over News

15. Brainstorm New Business Ideas

One of my friends has started a grocery app recently and he is doing quite good given the lockdown condition. That’s just an example! If Business is your cup of tea then take your work to another level or maybe start from scratch.

16. Work on your Communication Skills

Dedicate at least 1 hour daily to improve your communication and articulation skills. Record your speech, analyze and overcome speaking issues (could be stammering or lack of thoughts). Work on your fluency.

17. Improve Personality, Grow Confidence

Confidence is believing in yourself, feeling comfortable in your true-self and knowing you have worth. Learn to like, respect & love yourself, develop a thick skin and work on boosting your self-esteem. Take help from close friends, family or possibly online

18. Learn Dance

I thoroughly enjoy dancing and have tried a couple of dance classes in Bangalore and Mumbai, nowadays I do it online. Discover your favorite dance style, there are so many of them for example – Ballet, Hip-Hop, Classical, Western, freestyle, Rumba, Salsa, Belly and so on.

19. Yoga

We all know regular Yoga has endless benefits. For instance, it brings together physical and mental disciplines to achieve a peaceful body and mind. Furthermore, it also helps in increasing flexibility, muscle strength and body tone.

Make it a point to include yoga for at least 30 minutes in your daily routine and do regular exercise

21. Build a Skin Care Routine

Irrespective of lockdown you must always follow your skin care routine. If possible, do clean-ups and facials at home (head to YouTube for tons of free how-to videos).

Make sure you are using correct products and not the expired ones, declutter all old makeup items. If you are running short of them, you can use coconut oil or Aloe Vera gel, they do wonders. And lastly stay hydrated.

22. Watch Foreign Language Movies

Foreign language movies expose you to new cultural situations. They are a great way to observe body language and other nonverbal cues, also they have more authentic vocabulary than what you might find in a textbook.

If you limit yourself to just English language films, you’ll miss out on some of the best work out there. Much of the world’s most innovative cinema comes from beyond our borders

Live without mobile and Internet for a day and experience the beauty of the real world, listen to the birds chirping. I know it’s impossible to stay away from the internet and news in these lockdown days but it’s worth a try.

24. Listen to stories from Granny

Sounds old school? Well, we are so busy in the rat race that we have almost forgotten these simple pleasures.

Talk to your grandparents, listen to their experiences and stories, take life lessons.

25. Get some Sunlight

As a matter of fact, early morning sunlight (5:00 am – 9:00 am) is helpful to boost Vitamin D levels in your body. After 10 am, exposure to sunlight is harmful.
Therefore spend at least 10 minutes in your balconies or terrace or windows soaking up the sunshine.

26. Learn and Teach

If you are with your family learn cooking or sewing from your Mom, take notes on money matters from your Dad or vice versa. What’s more? enlighten your parents or elder ones on the technology front. Make them internet savvy.

27. Move on

If you are going through a rough patch on personal front and haven’t been able to move on in life then guess what, instead of dwelling on the past and regretting things, start afresh! It’s time for the deep clean drive for each corner and furniture at your home. Sanitize the house and things around you.

Arrange your Wardrobe, clean your makeup brushes, jewelry bags, and office bags. Clean your fridge and remove all the unnecessary things, fill it with healthy and essentials items. Decorate your house and make sure the house looks extremely clean.

30. Declutter

It’s time to declutter your stuff for instance, old clothes which you haven’t worn since a year, you can donate them later after lockdown.

Go through all medicines and look for expiry dates, and discard the expired ones.

32. Home Gardening

We love gardening at our balcony or terrace, isn’t it?

Did you know that digging in the soil has actual health and ‘mood-boosting’ benefits? Teach your kids gardening and get yourself indulged too. Grow your own vegetables or herbs. I have tried Coriander, Spinach and mustard greens and it really feels awesome when you see them growing.

Browse your favorite categories and shortlist all items you would like to buy after the lockdown such as home decors, apparels and what not. Add them to your cart and buy them later.

35. Wash and Moisturize Hands

It goes without saying please do wash your hands regularly. As directed by WHO

Clean your hands regularly.
Wash your hands with soap and water, and dry them thoroughly.
Use alcohol-based hand rub if you don’t have immediate access to soap and water.

Here I want to emphasis on moisturizing your hands thoroughly. Repetitive hand washing makes the skin surface dry. Also, make it a point to use a skin-friendly handwash.

Hey Guys, believe it or no, there comes a time in everyone’s life when you are done with eternity of work commitments or simply need to relax and unwind at home or flight or anywhere else. And what could be better than watching some epic Travel films in the meanwhile. Here comes some of my favorite Travel Films of all time to keep the wanderlust alive in you.

Into the Wild (2007)

Based on a true story. After graduating from Emory University, Christopher McCandless abandoned his possessions, gave his entire savings account to charity, and hitchhiked to Alaska to live in the wilderness. Along the way, Christopher encounters a series of characters who shape his life.

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (2013)

This is a film for all the day-dreamers, searching for the real meaning of life. The concept – of an underachieving dreamer finally discovering the world – is something most of us can relate to. This movie is gorgeous and the cinematography is fantastic above all the characters are endearing, and you find yourself rooting for the lead.

Forrest Gump (1994)

Our Favorite Movie Forrest Gump is about a simple man with a low I.Q. but good intentions. Even after decades this movie is a delightful choice to re watch. Forest Gump is a powerful yet charming movie filled with humor, sadness, action, and drama. It is by far one of the greatest work of Tom Hanks. After the release Forest Gump in no time became a huge hit and ended up winning many Oscars.

Wild (2014)

Wild is about a chronicle of one woman’s one thousand one hundred mile solo hike undertaken as a way to recover from a recent personal tragedy. This movie is so popular among the travelers that every fifth person I met in Bali had already watched it. So the film is about one woman’s story of regret, healing, and ultimately about forgiving herself so that she could move forward. The movie also talks about self discovery and finding your true self. A must watch for all the hikers.

In Bruges (2008)

And now let’s talk about this amazing film – In Bruges. It is a 2008 black comedy crime film which shows us a breathtakingly beautiful city, without ever seeming to be a travelogue. It uses the city as a way to develop the characters.The film follows the denouement of a “job” gone bad for two Irish hit men, who are forced to hole up in Bruges, Belgium, and really can’t stand the inactivity. The forced waiting, a symbolic purgatory in both assassins’ struggle for absolution, gives Brendan Gleeson and Colin Farrell a chance to act through some marvelous comic dialogue.

Eat Pray Love (2010)

Let’s admit it, we have already seen it and have different views. Though the film has got mixed reviews, it stands tall as one of Julia Roberts best films. Here’s a little trivia – In the scene when Ian takes his clothes off to go swimming with Liz they are on an actual beach, while Ubud is a land locked town in Bali.

The Before Trilogy (1995-2013)

Before Sunrise, Before Sunset and Before Midnight, the three-part romance captures a relationship as it begins, begins again, deepens, while set in a spellbinding backdrop of exotic locations such as Vienna, Paris and Greece in Europe. The only problem is it ends. These movies are pure delight to watch and are satisfying at so many levels.

Under the Tuscan Sun (2003)

Under the Tuscan Sun is about a writer who impulsively buys a villa in Tuscany in order to change her life. It’s a heart touching romantic story set in the backdrop of gorgeous Tuscany. And as the movie progresses with the charming views of rural Tuscany, you develop a wonderful relationship with the film. It keeps you hooked up with the lush Italian scenery, the colorful characters, the Romeo-and-Juliet romance between a lovely Italian girl and a Polish laborer. There is this another beautiful movie called My House in Umbria, worth watching

What’s life without a stroll on a beach? You bet! Yes, we all love mountains but aren’t we somewhere a beach person too?

With proximity to Mumbai and Pune, Kashid beach has emerged as a perfect weekend gateway to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. This beach is a one-stop spot for everyone looking out for adventure, serenity and peace. The Konkan coastline stretch offers an amazing view of cliffs, rocks, seashells and golden shimmering sand.

Best Time To Visit

Winters (Oct to Feb) are the best season to visit Kashid beach. Early mornings and nights can be chilly, don’t forget to pack some warm clothes. Stargazing at winter nights and late evening strolls are best experienced in this season.

Monsoon (July to Aug) – The weather is pleasant and rainy, still a better time to visit than summer seasons. However, the water is highly unstable and you cannot swim. All water sports remain closed too.

Summer (Mar to June) – It’s really hot and humid during the day but evenings are quite pleasant due to the sea breeze. The beaches are less crowded and water sports are cheaper too. If you are planning to visit in summer, please make sure to keep sunglasses and a good sunscreen to protect yourself.

Where to Stay

You can find plenty of homestays and cottages here offering homely cooked Maharashtrian food. Furthermore, there are few luxury resorts as well and apart from that a lot of local people let out their makeshift shacks and rooms.

Well, I was looking for a quiet place near the beach and luckily found this European style newly constructed wooden cabins resort. Guys, it is actually into the woods and so rustic. I really liked this property and all the arrangements are beyond expectation. Above all, their hospitality was amazing!

Things to do in Kashid

Beach Hopping

Isn’t it all about the beach when you are at a beach destination? Honestly, we can spend hours looking at the waves and relaxing on the shacks.

To begin with, there are various entry points to the coastline, the most popular one is Kashid beach. As you drive south, you can explore the other untouched hidden beaches.

For all water sports activities
Head straight to Kashid beach. The charge is usually 1000 INR for all water sports but you can bargain and try to get a decent deal. It’s much cheaper during the summers.

For some serene experience
Let’s admit it, during weekends Kashid beach can get too crowded, you can skip this beach and explore the peaceful Chikani beach which is just 3km south to Kashid.

Since my stay offered me a less famous entry to the beach, I used to visit Chikani Beach early mornings and late evenings. It almost felt like some private beach. I strolled on the glittering sand beds till the Kashid beach and it was an experience of a lifetime. Honestly I was little afraid because there was literally no one as far as I could look (no picture here since it was dark) , just the enormous beach stretch and the sky.

As of now in Jan 2020 this really comes under the isolated beaches category. Remember the name – Chikani Beach, you can ask any local and they would be kind enough to tell you the way.

Okay and we have another secret beach (or less known) called Nandgaon Beach. Completely untouched and clean. To tell you the fact, this wasn’t in my plan, I was heading to Phansad Wildlife Sanctuary and caught a glimpse of the way to Nandgaon beach and couldn’t help myself stopping here for a while. This secluded beach is around 8 km south of Kashid Beach.

Korlai Fort Beach and Lighthouse

Korlai fort demonstrates the rich history and dates back to 1521. No wonder, this is a Portuguese fortification surrounded by the lush green forest in the town of Korlai around 12 km from Kashid. There are total three entrance in this fort and the one from the western side is the easiest.

The path along the beach is just breath-taking in the evening however too narrow, so just be careful. You can park your vehicle near the lighthouse and enjoy a small trek towards the fort. It is open every day from 9 am to 5 pm.

Moreover, the Korlai Lighthouse adds beauty to the overall experience of sea, sand and serenity. There is a nominal charge to enter the Lighthouse. Be careful while climbing through the narrow stairs to the top. You will be amazed by the stunning 360-degree view of the western ghats from the viewing balcony.

Phansad Wildlife Sanctuary

Phansad Wildlife Sanctuary, Roha is located at 13kms south from Kashid. You can easily club your beach holiday along with this wildlife sanctuary. Did you know there are 164 species of birds, 27 species of snakes and 710 species of plants (to name a few) here? Undoubtedly, Phansad is rich in flora and fauna.

Although a day trip is sufficient to get the forest feel however, if you would like to explore more, try staying at the dorm camps at this wildlife Sanctuary starting at 500 Rs. They have a restaurant as well with nominal rates for snacks and local meals. The staff at the Sanctuary was kind enough to show me around.

Relax and Unwind

Since we are talking about the leisure holiday, what’s better than simply doing nothing and appreciating nature and birds chirping. And guess what there are no wifi signals and mobile networks are weak too. You can very well feel the tranquillity and sound of nature!

Things To Know Before You Go

Weak mobile network/no wifi since you are near the shores of the Arabian Sea.
Limited vegetarian options and no ‘a la carte’ service in the coastal area. The restaurants and food stalls can only offer local delicacies and thalis, and Maggie with tea/coffee. For seafood lovers this place is a paradise.
Kashid and Chikani beaches have snacks and tea stalls whereas Nandgaon beach have none.
Needless to say, you are at Kashid to unwind and relax but please please do not litter around. It breaks my heart to see plastic bottles, chips packets, beer bottles and what not just scattered and lying around the seashores.
