Without a doubt, the past nine months of blogging have been the most challenging for me.
Between technical issues, most of which were of my own creation, external forces like the Facebook ban and internet censorship in general, and a lack of inspiring travels in the midst of the pandemic, I’ve spent a lot of time recently asking myself whether I should continue blogging at all.
<webfeeds:featuredImage url="https://goneaway.blog/media/misc/gare-st-roch-wallpaper.jpg"/>

Dinner and a movie, but not in the normal order

EXCERPT: If you’re reading this and thinking, with all the pandemic fear, now is a terrible time to be at a cinema, let me say this: There may never be a better time to go to the movies! Due to all the temporary sanitation protocols, the screening room was cleaned so thoroughly between screenings, you could almost eat off the floor.
<webfeeds:featuredImage url="https://goneaway.blog/media/2020/11/17/phoenix-film-festival.jpg" width="740" height="988"/>

Underwhelming second half of a do-it-yourself summer

EXCERPT: I’m not really a do-it-yourselfer. I’m more of a don’t-do-it-at-aller, which is one of the reasons our home has maintained its timeless mid-1980s aesthetic. However, sometimes things get past the point of ignoring, and I either have to act or get someone else to act for me. About a month ago, I could smell a musty odor coming from under the kitchen sink. The faucet itself was leaking, not any of the shutoff valves or other plumbing.
<webfeeds:featuredImage url="https://goneaway.blog/media/2020/09/25/bathroom-faucet-new.jpg" width="740" height="740"/>

Golden sunrise while hiking at Shaw Butte

EXCERPT: After the sun reaches a certain point in the sky, I usually don’t even bother trying to take sunrise photos. Direct sunlight tends to expose the imperfections in the lens of my low-budget smartphone. However, this photo from my hike at Shaw Butte over the weekend came out better than expected. You may have already seen it, since I posted in on my social networking account Sunday morning.
This past weekend was the first time I’ve done any real hiking in Phoenix since the beginning of summer.
<webfeeds:featuredImage url="https://goneaway.blog/media/2020/08/11/golden-sunrise-phoenix.jpg" width="740" height="555"/>

Brief getaway to Oak Creek Canyon, north of Sedona

EXCERPT: After spending several months hanging around the Valley waiting for things to return to normal during the global pandemic, Kathryn and I finally decided to get away for a couple days to a higher elevation and cooler weather. With two other couples from our church, we rented a vacation cabin for two nights in the Oak Creek Canyon area. Although the mailing address of the cabin was Sedona, the reality is we were almost a half-hour north of town.
<webfeeds:featuredImage url="https://goneaway.blog/media/2020/07/29/oak-creek-sedona-bridge.jpg" width="740" height="555"/>
