The overall project involved the reordering and refurbishment of a large home in the North Wales countryside. Besides the main home, a substantial kitchen extension and link extension were formed, seamlessly connecting the residence to a two-storey outbuilding. Formerly underused, this outbuilding has been thoughtfully converted into a private library and home office.

Prior to the Christmas break the team enjoyed a scrumptious lunch at the newly opened Bryn William Theatr Clwyd! We’re now in back in the office and looking forward to working with clients; old and new throughout North Wales, Wirral, Chester and Shropshire!

This is an exciting time for the practice, and presents an opportunity to build on the reputation that Geoff and Alison have formed over the years. Paterson Macaulay & Owens Ltd

Geoff first joined Paterson Macaulay and Owens in October 1984 as a qualified architect. Two years later he was promoted to an associate, and subsequently a partner in the practice in 1989.

He has been a constant and stable presence in the practice, much respected and ever approachable. With a wealth of knowledge and experience, we will deeply miss his dedication and contributions which have been instrumental in the continuity and longevity of Paterson Macaulay and Owens.

We would like to congratulate Geoff on his well earned retirement and wish him all the best for his future endeavours!

One of our projects, St Grwst’s Church in Llanrwst, achieved Practical Completion just before the onset of the pandemic and the first lockdown in March 2020. Unfortunately the official opening was cancelled and the church was closed to the public indefinitely.

The project aims were to re-energise the church, conserve its fabric, and connect its stories back to the community. This would re-establish the church as the heart of the town and valley, creating a cultural centre for the area, whilst developing a variety of regular sources of income to ensure long-term sustainability.

To achieve these goals, the church interior was reordered to form a flexible and adaptable space with new facilities such as toilets, a kitchen and Interpretation area where visitors can learn about the history of the church. In terms of conservation work, key features were repaired and restored; in particular many of the artefacts within Gwydir Chapel. Other works include a new limestone floor with underfloor heating, new lighting and sound system.

The restoration and reordering works as a whole, create a welcoming space and atmosphere, that will connect people to the heritage and will be used by the community and visitors alike.

After some delay and adjustments to our new reality, St Grwst’s was eventually opened, albeit with COVID-19 measures in place. Services are now up and running and visitors are welcome!

We are a small, vibrant office that can offer excellent all-round practical, technical and design experience. We have a wide scope of interesting projects ranging from ecclesiastical and historic buildings, to affordable housing and works to private properties.

The successful candidate will become an integral part of a small, close-knit team, that will offer the opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects, gain invaluable experience and greater responsibility.

We are looking for a candidate who has a strong and committed work ethic, with a longer term interest in the practice. To that end, the successful candidate has the opportunity and benefit of continuing their architectural studies whilst still at PMO, either through the RIBA and ARB supported Apprentice Scheme or on a part-time basis at university.

We wanted to take a moment and advise you as to how we are managing the outbreak of the Coronavirus (COVID-19).

As a practice we are committed to provide continuing support to all of our clients through this difficult time. Of primary consideration is the health and wellbeing of our employees and decisions within the practice are being made in line with Government advice.

We have implemented measures to ensure that our employees can work remotely, whilst maintaining and prioritising our core functions during this time. If we need to make changes to any existing arrangements, we will be in touch with those affected individuals directly.

In line with Government guidelines, we have cancelled all non-essential meetings in our office, as well as surveys, inspections and meetings on site. We are offering video conference calls via Microsoft Teams where appropriate.

We will remain contactable by telephone, email and video chat, though response times may be slightly impacted as we adapt to our new working environment.

Our office will unfortunately not be open to visitors. Please do not post any hard copy documents as there will be a delay in retrieving them. The Pod has finally arrived on site and slowly taking shape!

The Pod provides facilities such as a fully working kitchen, disabled toilet, baby change and storage.

The Pod also provides a multi-functional first floor space that overlooks the Nave. This harkens back to the previous mezzanine structure that was taken down during the Victorian reordering.

The Pod was prefabricated and formed off site, before being dismantled into sections and transported to the church for reassembly.

Conservation Works At Grade I Listed St Grwst’s Church and Gwydir Chapel, Llanrwst, Conwy

After years of planning, we are finally on site at St Grwst’s Church and Gwydir Chapel in Llanrwst. The works involved to this Grade I Listed property include vital conservation work to the chapel and the re-ordering of the church to create new, modern facilities fit for the congregation, the local community and visitors alike.

It is anticipated that the construction work will be completed by the first half of 2020. Stay posted for updates!

We recently gained National Heritage Lottery Fund second stage funding for the conservation and re-ordering works to the church and chapel. Commencement of works is anticipated during the first half of 2019!

The scheme is for twelve apartments located in Garden City, Flintshire. The key aims of the design are to provide flexibility to anticipate changing needs in social housing and the creation of place and community where people have a sense of ownership of their environment by providing individual homes with their own gardens, shared spaces and private roof terraces.

The project is being developed in conjunction with Wates Residential for Flintshire County Council as part of their programme to build five hundred new homes across the county.
