Athletics' Shea Langeliers, top MLB trade deadline target, could be out for season after devastating injury

One of MLB’s top trade candidates ahead of the Aug. 3 deadline might be out for the remainder of the season.

Athletics catcher Shea Langeliers, who was enjoying a career year behind the dish and in the batter’s box, suffered a torn meniscus that could force him to miss the rest of the season, per ESPN.

The 28-year-old hurt his knee while running on the basepaths, and now he and the team are deliberating over whether he should undergo surgery to repair the tear in the knee.

If surgery is the decision, ESPN reports it would be the end of Langeliers’ 2026 campaign.

But either way, teams that were interested in potentially trading for the All-Star catcher are very likely out of the running now. Langeliers is considered one of the best at his position in MLB, which is why the A’s had no plan to move him despite a 44-60 record on the year that puts them on the outside looking in at playoffs.

Langeliers has been the team’s top player, representing them at his first-ever All-Star Game earlier this month. And he’s doing so while others like Nick Kurtz, Brent Rooker and Jacob Wilson are dealing with injuries themselves.

Langeliers is slashing .263/.332/.497 this season with a .829 OPS, 23 home runs and 51 RBI. These are the numbers the A’s were hoping Langeliers would post this season after a successful 2025 campaign that included 31 homers and a career-high .861 OPS.

He was on pace to break some more career highs, but this injury puts a damper in it all.

And those postseason contenders are just as bummed if they were hoping the A’s would change their position about moving Langeliers before the deadline. The New York Yankees, for one, are a team that’s expected to be in the catching market before the deadline, and calling the A’s about Langeliers would likely have occurred.

Now, catchers like Colorado Rockies’ Hunter Goodman and Baltimore Orioles’ Adley Rutschman could see an uptick in interest among teams hoping to bolster that position for a playoff push.

The A’s will have to go with Jonah Heim moving forward with Langeliers sidelined, and he himself has been among trade conversations as well due to his veteran prowess. He vaults to a starting role, though, and may not be as available.

Jackson Koivun holds off Scottie Scheffler to win first PGA Tour event just 24 days into pro career

At just 21 years old, and only 24 days as a professional golfer, Jackson Koivun can call himself a PGA Tour winner.

And he held off Scottie Scheffler, the world No.1 golfer, to do it at the 3M Open on TPC Twin Cities in Minnesota on Sunday.

Koivun shot 5-under in his final round to shoot 25-under to win the tournament, while Scheffler’s 8-under final round wasn’t enough as he finished three strokes behind a golfer that could become a household name quite soon.

Koivun propelled himself into prime position to win the tournament when he posted a 10-under 61 on Saturday in Round 3 to move to 20-under for the tournament. It was a tournament record during the round, too, as his 28 on the back-nine was the best score ever posted in those holes.

It was clear he was focused on winning it all during his final round, especially after going 3-under through his first six holes on the day.

Koivun would post two birdies on the back-nine, and finish with a bogey-free final round to put the icing on his breakout tournament of his very early PGA Tour career.

Now, after becoming a pro earlier this month, Koivun just cashed a $1.584 million check for winning what he hopes will be the first of many PGA Tour events.

"All throughout the crowd, I kept hearing, ‘Scottie’s coming, Scottie’s coming,’" Koivun admitted after his victory on the CBS broadcast. "I just tried to tone that out and keep playing the golf I knew I could."

It’s hard to block out when Scheffler’s climbing a leaderboard because it usually ends in his favor. After going 3-under on the front nine, Scheffler turned his putter into final-round gold on the turn, draining birdie putts on the first three holes of the back-nine. He cooled off, if you wish to call it that, before birdying two of his final three holes to give himself a chance.

Koivun didn’t blink, scoring par on his final two holes including the Hole 18 par-5, where he understandably pumped his fist after draining a final par putt to seal victory.

Winning isn’t anything new for the now-former top amateur in the world, but it’s a different feeling when it’s on the PGA Tour for the first time.

"I just love this game. I love golf, it’s everything I do. I have a tough time getting away from it," he explained. "…It’s been love at first sight."

Cardinals end Jacoby Brissett contract dispute with deal worth up to $21M for 2026 season: reports

The pay raise quarterback Jacoby Brissett was looking for was finally given to him by the Arizona Cardinals.

Unlike most hold-ins/hold-outs, Brissett wasn’t looking for a new extension from his club, but rather a raise heading into the 2026 NFL season where he figures to be the starting quarterback. He was set to make $4.88 million as his base salary.

Now, Brissett is set to make $15.5 million in base pay for 2026, according to multiple reports. The new 2026 contract could also get up to $21 million with incentives.

This stalemate between the journeyman quarterback and the Cardinals sparked some debate over whether it was even right that Brissett was asking for a raise.

But following the release of Kyler Murray , who eventually signed with the Minnesota Vikings, Brissett was in line to be a starter, and he wished to be paid accordingly. His new deal isn’t remotely close to top starter money, however, Brissett appears happy to finally get to common ground.

Brissett chose not to participate in the Cardinals’ spring workouts, though he did report to training camp on time. Because of the latter decision, it was expected he and the Cardinals would reach a deal soon.

It’s yet another regime change for the Cardinals, with Mike LaFleur assuming the head coach role left vacant after the firing of Jonathan Gannon. Brissett sits atop the depth chart after the Murray cut, while Arizona drafted Miami quarterback Carson Beck and signed Gardner Minshew II for competition at training camp.

Brissett took over starting duties during the 2025 season after Murray suffered a foot injury. It wasn’t soon before Brissett was operating the Cardinals’ offense more efficiently than his injured teammate, with players like tight end Trey McBride and wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. seeing an uptick in their own stat lines.

Brissett is scheduled for free agency after this season, but perhaps he can remain in good favor with the Cardinals with another good year. The offense around him was also bolstered, especially with Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love being drafted third overall back in April.

Brissett has been working out with his teammates to begin training camp, including newcomers like Love, but he hasn’t been participating in 11-on-11 sessions of practice. That should change now after the raise agreement.

But the pay raise doesn’t necessarily mean Brissett is guaranteed the starting role come Week 1 against the Los Angeles Chargers. He will have to earn that spot over Minshew and Beck, though he has the rapport necessary with the team’s top pass game options to think he will do just that.

The Cardinals and Carolina Panthers were the first full teams to report to training camp, as the new season truly gets underway. The rest of the league will have their veterans arriving on July 28, making this the week where position battles take flight across the NFL.

Disgraced coach Sherrone Moore puts Ann Arbor home on market for $1.7 million after Michigan affair

Sherrone Moore, the ex-Michigan Wolverines head coach who was fired after his affair with an executive assistant, and his wife are trying to leave town.

Moore has listed his Ann Arbor, Michigan home for $1.7 million, according to Realtor.com. The listing is about a 15-minute drive to the university.

The Detroit News identified the home on Walnut Ridge Drive as Moore’s. The five-bedroom, 5.5-bathroom residence has a half-acre of property and was last sold at $1.3 million in 2023.

Moore was on Jim Harbaugh’s staff that year, serving as the offensive coordinator and offensive line coach before serving as acting head coach for one game due to Harbaugh’s suspension.

Moore would later take over as Michigan’s head coach, getting the promotion after Harbaugh took the Los Angeles Chargers’ head coach position following a national championship-winning campaign.

Moore has since been sentenced to 18 months of probation and spared jail time after pleading no contest to two misdemeanors, which came after his actions post-firing.

Moore allegedly drove to Shriver’s house, forced his way in and threatened to take his own life with a butter knife and scissors after the latter tried ending their affair.

Shriver disclosed the relationship to Michigan officials, ultimately leading to his firing.

Kelli Moore, the coach’s wife, was by his side in court this past April, where she also wrote a letter to the judge presiding over the case, asking for leniency in her husband’s sentencing.

"There is a certain irony in a lot of this - the person quite frankly, Mr. Moore, who is saving you from the full wrath of this court is the one you betrayed," Judge Cedric Simpson said to Moore, referencing his wife also stating her will to stay in the marriage. "I don’t know where your wife, Kelli, finds her strength.

"When all the circumstances are happening and they’re happening to her and she’s absorbing them in real time, she does not once lose her focus. She not once bats an eye to sort of doubt you. She not once wants something terrible to happen for you."

Now, the Moore family is looking to recover from the scandal, and where exactly they wish to move to if they sell the home remains to be seen.

It’s hard to think, however, that Moore will land another coaching job in football despite his expertise.

Moore was also ordered to pay just over $1,000 in fines as part of his plea deal. He also must continue mental health treatment and may not use alcohol or marijuana, may not have any weapons, and was ordered to have no contact with the alleged victim.

Moore went 16-8 as Michigan's head coach — 8-5 in Year One, 7-3 last season. He missed a pair of games due to a suspension from a sign-stealing investigation.

WNBA All-Star Game draws record crowd as Caitlin Clark’s Team Spoon holds off Team Coop

The WNBA continued its 30th-season celebration Saturday night, bringing the All-Star Game back to Chicago for the first time since 2022.

The game itself had plenty of scoring, but Jonquel Jones supplied the all-around performance that helped Caitlin Clark and Team Spoon outlast Marina Mabrey and Team Coop.

Jones finished with 22 points, 13 rebounds and eight assists in a 129-122 win and was named the most valuable player of the game.

Eight Team Spoon players scored in double figures in a defense-light All-Star Game that featured 127 3-point attempts, with Allisha Gray adding 19 points and Clark finishing with 17.

The annual summer showcase was played before a record crowd of 19,783 at the United Center, the longtime home of the Chicago Bulls. Friday night’s 3-point contest and Shooting Stars competition were held at the smaller Wintrust Arena a few miles away.

In the second quarter on Saturday night, Dominique Malonga caught a pass from Atlanta Dream star Angel Reese and threw down the milestone dunk.

The 6-foot-6 Seattle Storm center became the seventh player in league history to record a dunk in an All-Star Game, according to the Storm. The WNBA said the 20-year-old is the youngest player to accomplish the feat during the marquee event.

WNBA commissioner vows to crack down on 'racism, misogyny,' dodges big questions at All-Star press conference

WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert dedicated the first serious portion of her news conference at the league's All-Star game to addressing "harassment" against players.

She said the league will be implementing "next steps" to address "every aspect" of player experience on the court, off the court and online."

"The racism, the misogyny, the homophobia, the harassment and threats directed to our players has no place in sport or anywhere else," Engelbert said, adding the issues have intensified in recent weeks but have also been present since "the moment I walked in the door.

"There's more work to do, and we need to make sure we're doing it."

CAITLIN CLARK MAKES WNBA HISTORY WITH RECORD-BREAKING GAME AFTER WEEKS OF CONTROVERSY

Many WNBA fans have raised concern over suspected racially-charged attacks on phenom Caitlin Clark in recent weeks after she was punched in the throat by Phoenix Mercury star Alyssa Thomas during a game June 24.

Other fans have expressed concern over racially-charged comments and threats online directed at Thomas and other players, including Aces player Chelsea Gray, who was targeted by alleged racial insult in an Instagram DM earlier this month.

Critics have suggested Engelbert be fired for her handling of the league's controversies this season and in recent years. Engelbert was asked if she expects to be commissioner at the start of the 2027 season. She did not give a yes or a no answer.

"Someone gave me this term, ‘keyboard warriors.’ They're very, very adamant to get their messages through to our players, whether it's through DMs, whether it's through other means. So, again, we're gonna try to attack it, and we're gonna communicate a lot more with the players on that," she said.

Engelbert addressed a question of whether the WNBA will make investigations, fines and suspensions more transparent, but she did not give a clear answer on that either, while frequently repeating the line, "We have processes."

Engelbert was not asked any questions about a recent USA Today column that criticized Clark for her handling of hard contact and questionable referee decisions while invoking the murder of Emmett Till.

During Braves games, The Freeze races a fan along the warning track in the outfield. The fan always gets a massive head start, but The Freeze almost always catches up and wins the race.

This fan, as he began to run the left field foul line while getting his head start, decided to turn and blow The Freeze a kiss. Big mistake.

The fan then began running but didn’t hit top speed. He then turned around, saw The Freeze gaining ground quickly and kicked into a higher gear.

Unfortunately for him, it was too little, too late.

The Braves are trying to avoid being like the fan and blowing a big lead. They are 61-42 and lead the National League East by 5½ games over the Philadelphia Phillies.

While 5½ games is a solid lead, the Braves led the division by 10½ games May 22. The Braves have since stabilized after going through a slump in June.

Apparently, the New England Patriots are ultra serious about locking down Christian Gonzalez for the long haul.

"We love Christian Gonzalez. We love him as a player and as a person. That's why we've made an offer to him that makes him the highest-paid player ever to play that position in the NFL, and, coincidentally, it's the highest contract in Patriots' franchise history," Patriots owner Robert Kraft said on Saturday when asked about Gonzalez, who's extension-eligible, at team training camp, according to ESPN.

"So, we're glad we drafted him, and he's developed here, and we hope he'll be with us for a long time."

Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel said that contract talks with Gonzalez were "ongoing" on Friday. The contract to beat for an NFL cornerback in both total money and average annual value is Trent McDuffie's four-year, $124 million deal with the Los Angeles Rams ($31 million AAV), which also included a record $100 million guaranteed for a cornerback.

Meanwhile, the contract to beat in Patriots history in both total money and average annual value is defensive tackle Milton Williams' four-year, $104 million deal ($26 million AAV), which he signed with the franchise in March 2025.

Regarding Gonzalez, the soon-to-be fourth-year cornerback is coming off a 2025 campaign where he earned his first career Pro Bowl nod, totaling 10 passes defended, 69 combined tackles and just one missed tackle across 14 regular-season games, according to Pro Football Focus; he missed three games due to a hamstring injury.

Then, across New England's four postseason games, Gonzalez totaled an NFL-high seven passes defended in the postseason and reeled in an ultimate game-sealing interception against the Denver Broncos in the AFC Championship Game with 2:11 remaining in the fourth quarter.

The year prior (2024), Gonzalez brought down two interceptions and recorded 11 passes defended, which came after his 2023 rookie campaign was cut short after four games due to a shoulder injury. New England selected Gonzalez with the No. 17 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft out of Oregon.

Lucas Herbert will take a four-shot advantage over Bryson DeChambeau entering this weekend at LIV Golf United Kingdom Presented by JCB. The next closest pursuer is Tyrrell Hatton, but he’s seven shots behind.

Herbert, who went wire-to-wire in Virginia two months ago to claim his first LIV Golf title, hopes he and DeChambeau can continue to separate from the field, leaving them to go toe-to-toe in Sunday’s final round. Only one other scenario would please the Ripper GC star more.

"Would love to make it a two-horse race with Bryson on Sunday," Herbert said. "Or maybe a one-horse race if I can."

The way Herbert is playing now, no one doubts he could run away from the pack. The 30-year-old Australian followed his course-record 11-under 61 in Thursday’s opening round with a 6-under 66, fueled by an impressive back-nine response after DeChambeau overtook him for the lead midway Friday at JCB Golf & Country Club.

At 17 under, Herbert has the tournament in his hands; as a proven front-runner, he’ll be difficult to reign in. Even so, he remains cautious about his chances with 36 holes to play.

"I’ve seen this happen before where it feels like there’s only two of us in the tournament and everyone kind of gets caught up in that story and other guys come back in," said Herbert. "I can think of Anthony Kim winning in Adelaide earlier this year when everyone thought it was the Bryson and Jon [Rahm] show there on Sunday. We’re only halfway. We have a lot of golf to go."

DeChambeau, at 13 under after his 5-under 67, knows the challenge will be difficult, especially given Herbert’s current form. Last week, Herbert was the 36-hole leader at The Open Championship after tying a men’s major record with his second-round 62. He eventually finished T6, the best finish of his major career.

Asked what it will take to catch Herbert, DeChambeau replied with a laugh: "Just shoot 10-under-par both days. That’s what it feels like I’ve got to do. Him being four ahead, it’s not going to be an easy task. … It’s going to be a great battle, no matter what. I hope I can give him a battle."

DeChambeau can at least draw on the first half of Friday’s round when he made up a three-stroke deficit to take the lead. DeChambeau was a bogey-free 5 under through 10 holes, while Herbert’s putter went cold, as he missed three par putts, each within 3 feet or less.

When DeChambeau birdied the par-5 10th while Herbert scrambled for par, the Crushers captain led by one. But the 9-foot par-saving putt by Herbert on that hole was a positive sign. He then birdied the par-4 12th after driving the green, eagled the par-5 13th with a 33-foot putt, and made a 10-foot birdie putt at the party-hole 14th to re-establish his multi-shot lead. He added another late birdie at the par-3 17th.

"It was not my best stuff out there," Herbert said, "but that back nine, kind of hung around long enough to see my chance to take the lead again come to fruition."

DeChambeau, meanwhile, played the final eight holes in even par, negating two birdies with two bogeys. That’s left him with plenty of work as he seeks his third individual win of the season while also hoping to make up ground against points leader Rahm in the season-long Individual Championship race.

"I’ve got to focus on playing some really good golf, not making too many mistakes out there," he said. "I made too many on the back nine today."

He can’t afford too many more this weekend. Meanwhile, Herbert is glad to be in the final group with DeChambeau for the second consecutive round.

"I actually really enjoy it," Herbert said. "I'm glad I'm playing with him again tomorrow. He's had some great support out there. There's a lot of fans out there watching our group, which was pretty awesome. It's a privilege to have him out here because he's bringing a lot of eyeballs and a lot of fans, which we love doing around the world."

RIPPERS’ CARROT-CUTTING CONTEST: Fueled by tournament leader Lucas Herbert, the all-Australian Ripper GC are a cumulative 37 under and have a nine-stroke lead over Crushers GC. Perhaps partial credit should go to the inventive way the team is relaxing after rounds.

All four players – Herbert, captain Cameron Smith and teammates Marc Leishman and Travis Smyth (who is filling in for injured Elvis Smylie) – are staying in the same house. So are the caddies and some team staff. Following Thursday’s opening round, the group played a game created by Smith in which each person chopped a carrot in two. The winner is the one who can cut two pieces that weigh the closest to each other.

"Very competitive," Herbert said Friday. "… I don’t know what he’s got planned tonight, some sort of knockout round-robin extravaganza. I’m sure that will entertain us and get our mind off the golf."

Herbert said those kinds of fun activities are beneficial, especially in his position with the lead. Without LIV Golf’s team concept, he’d have to deal with the pressure by himself.

"One of the funnest things about the team golf aspect," he said. "I think our team is one of the best. We have some of the best camaraderie with those sorts of things. Yeah, I feel pretty fortunate to be included in that."

DECHAMBEAU MAKING UP GROUND: Bryson DeChambeau still has plenty of points to make up in order to apply some heat on Jon Rahm, who currently leads the season-long points race as he chases a third consecutive Individual Championship.

But with DeChambeau in solo second at 13 under while Rahm is tied for 31st at 1 under, DeChambeau can at least prevent Rahm from clinching the title this week.

"I’m sure he’s going to be a force to be reckoned with the next couple of days and in New Jersey as well [in Bedminster at LIV Golf New York, the league’s next tournament]," said DeChambeau.

Rahm and DeChambeau each have two wins this season, but Rahm’s consistency has provided a healthy advantage. Even if DeChambeau fails to catch him, a second-place result in the final standings would be his best finish in the season-long race.

"Feel like I’ve had my best year out here this year," DeChambeau said. "For whatever reason, I feel like I’ve left a lot out there, which is quite interesting to me but very grateful for having a great year out here. … I feel really comfortable with my game, as comfortable as I’ve felt in a long time."

HATTON’S BIRDIE WALK: For the second consecutive round, Tyrrell Hatton birdied the par-3 ninth. On Thursday, it was with a 10-foot putt. On Friday, it was from 5 feet – and he walked it in. Accidentally, that is.

"I thought I’d missed it right," he said. "I’ve been struggling with left-to-right putts this week. Feels like the ball’s just slipping off the face, so I’m not really hitting the line I want to. Bit surprised to see that one go in."

Two years ago, Hatton tied for second at JCB behind his Legion XIII captain Rahm. He enters this weekend solo third at 10 under, seven shots behind Herbert. He’s looking for his second consecutive LIV Golf title (and third overall), having won last month in Andalucia.

"You can see how good the scoring’s been the first two days," said Hatton, who shot a 4-under 68 on Friday. "It’s meant to be a little bit windier tomorrow, but I still imagine the scoring is going to be pretty good. Hopefully, I can play well and give myself opportunities."

CASEY RETURNS WITH BIG DRIVES: DeChambeau’s Crushers GC teammate Paul Casey returned to action this week after missing the previous two tournaments with an injury. On Friday, Casey led the field in driving distance average. "Really?" DeChambeau said with a laugh. "How many cart paths did he hit? I don’t know what he was doing in those nine weeks off."

He then added with seriousness: "He’s always been sneaky long. It’s funny, he has this piercing low bullet. He’s such a great player. I’m so glad to have him back on the team. I need him. We need him for the last few weeks of this year."

49ers coach Kyle Shanahan suffers significant injuries in offseason car wreck

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shananhan was involved in a serious car wreck last week, the team announced Saturday.

Shanahan broke his nose, three ribs, his hand, needed over 40 stitches in his face and suffered a severe concussion in the accident, according to ESPN. The incident happened July 14 when the 45-year-old coach's vehicle collided with another SUV by near home in Northern California, according to the report.

"San Francisco 49ers Head Coach Kyle Shanahan was involved in a car accident last week when he suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Coach Shanahan will participate in team activities on a limited basis at the start of training camp while he recovers," the 49ers said in a statement.

"Coach Shanahan and the 49ers organization would like to sincerely thank all first responders involved for their efforts and care.

"Assistant Head Coach Chris Foerster along with team coordinators will handle head coach responsibilities during this period."

Palo Alto Lt. Nicholas Martinez told ESPN the other driver was not injured and that drugs or alcohol were not involved. Shanahan was taken to a hospital by paramedics after the wreck and was released after spending much of the day there.

"Consistent with our standard release of information procedures in such cases, we do not release information regarding the cause of the collision or which party may have been at fault," Martinez told ESPN.

He told the outlet that no one was cited in the collision.

The 49ers' training camp starts on Sunday, but Shanahan will not be allowed to participate until he is cleared by doctors. The longtime coach told his assistant coaches about the accident on Tuesday, according to the report.

John Lynch, the 49ers general manager, spoke Saturday and said that while there aren't concussion protocols for staff, he will "basically" be in the same concussion protocol players go through. Lynch said the doctors will dictate when he comes back.

"No. 1 for Kyle and the Shanahan family is getting him back right. He's a tremendous head coach, but this is bigger than that. This is about his well-being, and, uh, we're going to take the time necessary, and I think we're very equipped to do that," Lynch told reporters at a press conference.

Lynch said Shanahan has been in the building, but he will not be running the team. The general manager did say Shanahan will probably still be on the practice field despite the injuries. He just won't be running the show.

Lynch didn't definitively say Shanahan will be coaching in Week 1 but said that the expectation is he will be back long before the regular season begins.

Shanahan is entering his 10th season as the 49ers head coach and is widely considered one of the top coaches in the NFL. Over nine seasons, he has an 82-67 record and has led the team to the Super Bowl twice.

Shanahan is believed to be recovering well and healing at home, according to the report. The 49ers' first game of the season is against the Los Angeles Rams Sept. 10 in Melbourne, Australia.

Last Night In Baseball: Astros Roar Back, Pitching Gems And A Midwest Stunner

There is always baseball happening — almost too much baseball for one person to follow themselves.

Don't worry, we're here to help you by figuring out what you missed but shouldn't have. Here are all the best moments from last night in Major League Baseball:

If the Chicago White Sox miss the playoffs by a game or two, their Friday night loss to the Houston Astros is a game that will stand out.

Chicago entered the top of the sixth inning with a 5-0 lead. Then, the Houston bats exploded for an eight-run inning.

In said inning, left fielder LaMonte Wade Jr. both singled and walked in a run; first baseman Christian Walker hit a three-run double; right fielder Cam Smith blasted a go-ahead, three-run home run, his 13th long ball of the year; second baseman Jose Altuve had an RBI single; catcher Christian Vázquez later had an RBI double for good measure in the ninth, giving the Astros a sizzling, 9-5 win.

Houston, which used seven pitchers to get through the game, got three-hit performances from Altuve and shortstop Jeremy Peña.

While 51-54, the Astros have won four consecutive games and are just two games behind the Texas Rangers for first place in the American League West and three games behind the Cleveland Guardians for the third AL wild-card seed.

The Atlanta Braves hit four home runs on Thursday, and the long ball propelled them to another victory on Friday.

Trailing the Baltimore Orioles 3-2 in the top of the eighth, catcher Drake Baldwin got the Braves even with a solo homer, which ultimately sent the game to extra innings. In the 10th, Atlanta got the lead on a fielder's choice and then first baseman Matt Olson gave it a four-run cushion with a three-run home run to right field.

Now, Baltimore did make it close in the bottom half of the inning, scoring three runs, highlighted by a two-run homer from third baseman Christian Encarnacion-Strand — who also laced a two-run double in the first — but Atlanta held on to win, 7-6.

Seven of nine Braves starting position players recorded a hit, with right-hander Grant Holmes going five innings and Elieser Hernández being the unsung hero of the night, tossing three scoreless innings of relief. Meanwhile, Olson's homer was his 27th of the year, which is seventh in MLB, and Baldwin's homer was his 20th, which is fourth among catchers.

This one was back and forth all night.

After first baseman Nolan Schanuel gave the Los Angeles Angels a 1-0 lead on an RBI single in the top of the first, San Francisco Giants first baseman Rafael Devers hit an opposite field, two-run home run in the bottom half of the inning. Then, in the bottom of the third, third baseman Casey Schmitt launched a three-run home run, giving the Giants a 5-1 lead.

All that said, the Angels narrowed the gap to one run in the fifth with a two-run triple from catcher Tyler Heineman and a sacrifice fly from center fielder Mike Trout. San Francisco later got a sacrifice fly from catcher Daniel Susac in the bottom of the fifth, but infielder Vaughn Grissom evened the score for Los Angeles at 6-all with a two-run homer in the eighth, and the game would go to extra innings.

Unfortunately for the Halos, though, they failed to plate a run in the top half of the 10th, and Devers sent the San Francisco faithful home happy in the bottom half of the inning with a walk-off, RBI single to deep left field.

Devers and Schmitt have each hit 21 home runs this season, combining for 110 RBIs and a .483 slugging percentage, with the Friday night victory snapping a five-game losing streak for the Giants.

"Well, I'm dominating!"

Back-to-back AL Cy Young Award winner Tarik Skubal was in top form against the Kansas City Royals. Over 7 ⅓ innings, the southpaw surrendered just one run and six baserunners (four hits and two walks), while recording 12 strikeouts in a 2-1 win for the Detroit Tigers. It marked Skubal's longest outing of the season — which was sidetracked for two months by an elbow injury — and the fourth time he has pitched through the seventh inning. Skubal has given up just one run over his last two starts, with him pitching through seven innings in both outings.

Through 15 starts, Skubal boasts a 2.70 ERA, an 0.92 WHIP, 110 strikeouts, a 159 ERA+ and 2.9 wins above replacement across 90.0 innings pitched. As for the offense, Detroit's two runs came in the first inning on a Riley Greene sacrifice fly and an RBI single from second baseman Hao-Yu Lee.

Sure, the Tigers are 50-54, but they've won 15 of their last 20 games and, at this rate, they have the justification to keep Skubal past the trade deadline and push for a playoff spot, as they're just three-and-a-half games out of the third AL wild-card seed.

And because this is baseball, that means bizarre things will happen. What was that bizarre thing on Friday night? The team with the second-worst record in MLB beating the team with the second-best record in MLB on their home field.

Correct, the Colorado Rockies (42-63) got a road victory over the Milwaukee Brewers (64-39). Behind 5 ⅔ innings from right-hander Tomoyuki Sugano, who surrendered just two runs, and 3 ⅔ scoreless innings of relief from Victor Vodnik, Antonio Senzatela and Jordan Romano, the Rockies got a 5-2 win.

Colorado put two runs on the board in the top of the first on an RBI double from center fielder Cole Carrigg and an RBI single from catcher Hunter Goodman. The Rockies then got a run in the third on an RBI single from third baseman Kyle Karros and a fourth run on a sacrifice fly from designated hitter Mickey Moniak in the fourth. Their fifth and final run came on a pinch-hit RBI double from TJ Rumfield in the seventh.

As for the offensive standouts, Goodman is third in MLB with 31 home runs and first among catchers with a .563 slugging percentage; Rumfield sports a .301/.384/.482 slash line in what's his rookie season; Moniak boasts a .558 slugging percentage, while Carrigg has an .866 OPS and Karros has a .794 OPS.

New York Yankees first baseman Paul Goldschmidt hit an opposite field, solo home run in the top of the fourth, and that was the offense. Like, literally, the Yankees beat the Philadelphia Phillies, 1-0.

New York leaned on burgeoning superstar right-hander Cam Schlittler, who posted 12 strikeouts and gave up only three baserunners (three hits) over 7 ⅓ innings; Brent Headrick and David Bednar shut the door for the Yankees with 1 ⅔ combined scoreless innings of relief.

Meanwhile, Phillies left-hander Jesús Luzardo was also sensational, surrendering just one run and four baserunners (three hits and one walk) over seven innings, while recording nine strikeouts; it just came in a one-run loss. In fact, Goldschmidt's homer was one of only three hits for the Yankees.

Schlittler continues to solidify his case to be the 2026 AL Cy Young, owning an AL-best 2.07 ERA, 0.93 WHIP, 157 strikeouts, a 203 ERA+ and 4.6 wins above replacement over an AL-high 130 ⅓ innings pitched (22 starts).

The Minnesota Twins drew seven walks, but they only tallied two hits and couldn't get a run to cross home plate against the Athletics in a 2-0 loss.

Jacob Lopez tossed five scoreless innings for the A's, who then got four scoreless innings of relief from Geoff Hartlieb, José Suarez, Elvis Alvarado and Hogan Harris. It was the longest shutout that Lopez has put together this season.

As for the run production, the Athletics' two runs came on a fifth-inning sacrifice fly from right fielder Lawrence Butler and an RBI single from left fielder Tyler Soderstrom, who sports a .472 slugging percentage, in the sixth.

This was the Athletics' first shutout victory since beating the Angels on June 18 (5-0) and their first road shutout since defeating the Astros on June 7 (5-0).

Only one team scored double-digit runs on Friday night, and that club was the Tampa Bay Rays.

Tampa Bay struck early and often in an 11-3 smacking of the Guardians. Second baseman Ryan Vilade sparked the party with a two-run home run in the bottom of the second, with the Rays later having a three-run fourth inning: RBI singles from right fielder Jonny DeLuca and catcher Nick Fortes and an RBI force-out from shortstop Ben Williamson.

Junior Caminero put a sixth run on the board for the Rays with an RBI single in the sixth, with Fortes driving in a run on a double in the seventh. The Rays put a bow on the offensive outburst with a four-run eighth inning, as left fielder Chandler Simpson brought home a run on a sacrifice fly and Richie Palacios launched a three-run home run.

Tampa Bay pulled left-hander Shane McClanahan after five scoreless innings. Through 19 starts, McClanahan, who's back in the big leagues after missing the second half of 2023 and the entire 2024 and 2025 seasons due to elbow and triceps injuries, boasts a 3.09 ERA and a 139 ERA+.

The Rays, who are an AL-best 60-43, have won four of their last five games, while the Guardians have lost three in a row.

Once the surprise team of the season, the Miami Marlins are reeling — bad.

After losing at home to the San Diego Padres, the Marlins have now lost 10 consecutive games and are 52-52. Over that span, they're averaging just 2.5 runs per game, with them losing 4-2 on Friday night.

Concerning said loss, Miami struck first in the bottom of the second on a solo home run from catcher Joe Mack, with a Heriberto Hernández solo homer later tying the game at 2-all in the bottom of the fifth, which was the score entering the eighth. With that said, Luis Rengifo put the Padres up for good with a pinch-hit, two-run homer to right field in the top of the eighth. San Diego got its first run on an RBI line-out from center fielder Jackson Merrill in the fourth and an RBI single from designated hitter Manny Machado in the fifth.

The two teams combined to use 13 pitchers (the Marlins used seven pitchers, while the Padres used six). Miami is three games behind the Arizona Diamondbacks for the third National League wild-card seed, while San Diego (51-53) stands four games back of the playoff spot.

The 2026 MLB season has been a struggle for second-year Los Angeles Dodgers starter Rōki Sasaki, but Friday night was a breeze.

In a road outing against the New York Mets, Sasaki had one of the best starts of his MLB career, surrendering just one run and five baserunners (three hits and two walks) over seven innings, while totaling seven strikeouts in a 4-2 Dodgers win; he threw 94 pitches, 63 of them for strikes. Sasaki has given up just one earned run over his last two starts.

On the season, Sasaki has a 4.71 ERA, a 1.29 WHIP, 94 strikeouts, an 89 ERA+ and 0.1 wins above replacement across 93 ⅔ innings (18 starts). As for Sasaki's run support, the Dodgers got a sacrifice fly from second baseman Miguel Rojas in the top of the fourth and a sacrifice fly from Shohei Ohtani in the seventh, with right fielder Kyle Tucker — who owns a career-low .705 OPS in what's the first season of a four-year, $240 million deal — creating separation with a two-run home run to right field in the eighth; Tucker finished with two hits.

New York's two runs came on a solo home run from Luis Robert Jr. in the bottom of the second and a solo homer from catcher Francisco Alvarez (he has hit 12 home runs in 69 games) in the eighth. Meanwhile, Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman had a three-hit night.

The Dodgers have the best record in the sport at 66-38.

Trump speaks out on Bryson DeChambeau's controversial two-stroke penalty at The Open: 'Tough call'

Bryson DeChambeau was given a controversial two-stroke penalty at The Open last week, and President Donald Trump said it was a "tough call."

DeChambeau reportedly wanted to reach out to Trump for assistance after the LIV Golf star was engaged in a heated exchange with rules officials at The Open.

The president didn’t intervene but sympathized with DeChambeau when asked about it this week.

"I thought the Bryson call was a tough call," Trump told reporters in the Oval Office Friday.

"I saw him walking around. I see a lot of people there walking around looking for their ball in weeds, OK. But I've been watching that. So, you know, I thought it was a tough call against him."

On the fifth hole during DeChambeau’s second round at The Open, he appeared to be walking through the weeds, stomping on the rough behind him and causing it to lie flat for his swing out of the rough. After the round, he went back out to the high fescue and pleaded his case to rules officials to no avail.

After getting involved with FIFA suspending Folarin Balogun’s red card for the USMNT’s Round of 16 matchup against Belgium and now with DeChambeau reaching out, Trump was asked if there was a precedent for someone in his position to become a fixer for athletes.

"Well, it's not a fixer. You mean being a judge," Trump said.

Trump compared DeChambeau’s situation with Balogun and said the red card being suspended by FIFA worked out "brilliantly."

"I thought the red card was a very tough call, and it worked out brilliantly. Look, supposing that they didn't let him play and we lost, everyone would have been angry, right? The way it was that they lost with their best player. Now everyone's happy, including Belgium. Of course, they lost the next game, so they might not that happy, either.

"But it worked out great. (Gianni Infantino) did a good job in making that call. All I did, I asked for a review. I thought that call was not a good call."

While Balogun was able to play, the USMNT lost 4-1 to Belgium, ending their World Cup run in the Round of 16.

As for DeChambeau, he remained in the hunt despite the two-stroke penalty until he triple-bogeyed the 11th hole in the final round Sunday, effectively taking him out of contention.

DeChambeau finished 4 under for The Open, tied for 14th. The Open was the lone major championship at which DeChambeau made the cut this season.

A Super Bowl champion is dead after dying by suicide, the former NFL player's family confirmed Thursday.

Jordan Devey, who won the 2015 Super Bowl with the New England Patriots, died by suicide, the family announced in a GoFundMe campaign posted this week.

The post said the suicide left "his family to navigate an incredibly difficult and heartbreaking time."

The former offensive lineman had recently been coaching at Eagle High School in Idaho. The GoFundMe said Devey "was a cherished member of the Eagle community, known for his unwavering dedication to serving others."

"He was a devoted husband to Linsey and a loving father to their four children. Jordan spent countless hours volunteering as a coach for his own children’s teams and for the athletes at Eagle High School, where he was deeply loved by the players who saw him as a mentor, role model, and friend," the GoFundMe said.

"His commitment to uplifting those around him extended far beyond sports, as he faithfully served in his church, offering support, counsel, and friendship to anyone in need."

IOC declines to investigate Gianni Infantino over Trump's call about Folarin Balogun red card

The International Olympic Committee announced Friday it will not investigate Gianni Infantino regarding President Donald Trump's call to him about Folarin Balogun's controversial red card.

The USMNT star received a red card in the round of 32 of the World Cup, which initially made him ineligible to play in the next round.

However, FIFA decided to suspend the red card, which made Balogun eligible. Trump later said he called Infantino and asked for a review, but FIFA claimed it was not influenced by Trump.

The ruling added to what was already a huge controversy. Critics argued Balogun should not have been red-carded in the first place. Nonetheless, Balogun was active despite an appeal and a strong reaction from Belgium.

A London-based NGO formally complained this month to the IOC ethics commission about Infantino. The IOC’s Olympic Charter cites neutrality among "fundamental principles of Olympism" for sports bodies like FIFA and its 100-plus members, which have included Infantino since 2020.

No formal investigation will be opened, the IOC said, because the complaint by the rights group FairSquare did not relate to FIFA’s or Infantino’s specific relations with the Olympic body.

The complaint "refers only to (FIFA’s) decisions on its governance and its management, including its relations with government, and to (FIFA’s) implementation of the rules of its sport," the IOC said in a statement.

"Consequently, the complaint falls outside the IOC ethics commission’s jurisdiction," the statement continued.

I thought it was two great athletes who crashed into each other and got entangled. That was not a guy punching somebody in the face or anything, that would be different.

"I think it’s a terrible … if they wouldn’t allow a top player, maybe the best, maybe among the best on the team, to play. I think it would have had a big stain. I relayed it. I didn’t tell him what to do. I don’t believe he made the decision. I think it was a committee that made the decision, and they made the right decision because, No. 1, it wasn’t a foul, and you want to see a game with your best players."

Balogun being active did not help. The U.S. lost to Belgium, 4-1.

Michael Kim nails dramatic birdie on the 18th to make PGA Tour scoring history at 3M Open

Michael Kim made history with an exclamation point on Friday at the 3M Open.

Kim, 33, was going for just the 16th sub-60 round (59) in PGA Tour history heading into the 18th hole. Kim’s wedge shot from the fairway on the par-5 18th rolled to the fringe of the green, leaving him 24 feet away from making a birdie and adding his name to the history books.

Kim had one thing on his mind when stepping up to the putt: Don’t leave it short.

"I tend to leave those short when it’s that uphill and I just, last thing was just get it there, just don’t leave it short," Kim said.

He certainly did not leave it short. Kim buried it in the bottom of the cup and then gave a few huge fist pumps in celebration.

Going into the last couple of holes, Kim knew what was at stake and wanted to give himself a shot at making the record books.

"I just kind of told myself, like, ‘Hey, this is the way, this is the moment to get into the history books, and let’s go for it. Let’s not try to luck our way into it. Let’s try to step up and hit some really good shots,’" he said.

Kim went on multiple runs throughout his round. Starting on the third hole, he made five birdies in a row. He then made par on the eighth hole, but proceeded to birdie three of the next four holes.

He ended his round with four straight birdies.

Kim was impeccable with his putter as eight of his 11 birdies were from more than 10 feet away.

"When you hit a putt, and it does exactly what you kind of envisioned before you hit it, it’s an awesome feeling. Felt like that all day out there," he said.

Kim’s historic day moved him into a three-shot lead over Ben Kohles, but Kim knows there is a lot more golf left to play.

"Today was an awesome day, but, still, I’m only halfway there. So, still need to kind of get focused up for the weekend," he said.

Kim’s 59 was the fourth on tour since 2024. Jake Knapp was the last to do so during the first round of the 2025 Cognizant Classic. Jim Furyk holds the PGA Tour record with a 58 at the 2016 Travelers Championship.

LeBron James has made what he promised to be his "last decision." Now, the focus turns to the next step in Bronny James’ young NBA career.

Bronny James' status with the Los Angeles Lakers became clear in late June, when his $2.3 million salary for next season became fully guaranteed after the team declined to waive him before a deadline.

A day later, LeBron James informed the Lakers he planned to continue his career elsewhere in what will be an unprecedented 24th NBA season.

Bronny was drafted by the Lakers in 2024 and became part of the first father-son duo in NBA history. LeBron has not shied away from how much it meant to share an NBA locker room with Bronny, a milestone that became even more significant when they played together in competitive games later into this past season.

That history made it natural for some to wonder whether the James family would want that connection to continue.

But Rich Paul, the CEO of Klutch Sports and the agent who represents both players, cautioned that LeBron’s decision does not mean Bronny will make a uniform change.

"They are not a package deal," Paul told ESPN. The report added there is "no current plan or request for Bronny Janes to join his father."

All signs now point to the Lakers keeping Bronny James in Los Angeles and allowing him to continue developing under head coach JJ Redick. The backcourt will be led by Luka Dončić, with Austin Reaves expected to remain a key piece.

Bronny will also have several young players and offseason additions around him as the Lakers reshape the roster. Adou Thiero and Dalton Knecht are set to return, while center Walker Kessler and free-agent additions Sandro Mamukelashvili, Quentin Grimes and Collin Sexton could also factor into the rotation.

Bronny appeared in 42 games last season, an increase from the 27 times he played at the NBA level during his rookie campaign. He averaged 2.9 points per game in 2025-26.

Two of James’ former teams, the Cleveland Cavaliers and Miami Heat, had been floated as possible landing spots for the 41-year-old, four-time NBA champion. James said in a statement posted to social media that his decision came down to his pursuit of a fifth NBA title.

"This is my last decision. I’m not going for money. I’m not going for family. What am I really playing for at this point? I still want to sacrifice. I still want to work. I still want to grind. I still want to compete, to win and to have a chance at the feeling of winning another championship," James wrote on X.

"I said what I said. I think it's kind of common sense," Cunningham told reporters. "And I think I'll always believe in that. I think it's really important to protect children, and that's little girls who are also involved in that category. I stand on what I said."

The debate over transgender athletes in girls' and women's sports has become a major issue in recent years. Fudd also said her injury setbacks came with an unexpected benefit. The repetitive shooting she did during rehab helped sharpen her form and build the rhythm needed to knock down shots from the same spots in Friday’s 3-point contest.

"That was a lot of chair shooting, a lot of stationary shots, so you get really good at shooting off of a rack and being stationary and robotic and having to knock your shot down."

Before the 3-point contest, the WNBA debuted another All-Star event in Chicago — the Shooting Stars competition.

Replacing the past skills challenge, the Shooting Stars competition featured four three-person teams. Each roster included one former player designated as a legend, one current player and one rising young player. Team Washington defeated Team Seattle to win the inaugural event.

The Mets hosted the defending World Champion Los Angeles Dodgers — fresh off a White House visit — on Friday evening.

It was an eventful evening at the ballpark, as actress Emma Stone was there filming a movie and took some time to chat with Soto before the game.

Before the game, interim manager Andy Green even addressed it.

Soto was the only All-Star for the Mets this season, which underscores what a problem it is if he's not in the lineup.

Through 84 games this season, Soto is batting .283 with 83 hits and 21 home runs. He is in the second year of a 15-year, $765 million deal that he signed with the Mets in December 2024.

One of the initial tasks for first-year Arizona Cardinals coach Mike LaFleur is figuring out who the team's starting quarterback will be, now that the post-Kyler Murray era has arrived.

The answer might not be coming any time soon.

Veteran Jacoby Brissett — who started the final 12 games last season — was the initial favorite to land the role, but didn't practice with the team during the offseason because he's unhappy with his contract situation. However, he participated in Thursday's workout in a signal a new deal could be close.

Brissett appears to be in a three-man battle with veteran Gardner Minshew and rookie Carson Beck for the starting job, but LaFleur didn't give any clues about the depth chart when asked to describe the competition.

"I'd describe it as practice one on July 23," LaFleur said.

The 33-year-old Brissett is in the final year of a $12.5 million, two-year deal, though only $1.5 million is guaranteed. If he remains the starter, he would be among the league’s lowest-paid quarterbacks.

Brissett had good individual stats last season with 3,366 yards passing, 23 touchdowns and eight interceptions, but the Cardinals went 1-11 in his starts. The Cardinals finished last in the NFC West at 3-14.

Safety Budda Baker made his feelings known about Brissett's situation on social media earlier this month, posting: "Just want bro to get his (expletive) done… he is not asking for what you think. Bro is asking for below the bare minimum. Let’s just get it done!!!"

Baker stood by his statement on Thursday.

"I definitely think Jacoby did a great job coming in last year," Baker said. "I know we didn't get the wins that we wanted to get, but I think he commanded the offense at a high level."

Starting left tackle Paris Johnson (knee) and star edge rusher Josh Sweat (knee) opened camp on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list.

LaFleur said he wasn't concerned about the long-term prognosis for either player.

"The Paris thing, that's really, honestly nothing. We're all on the same page, it's really just maintenance stuff so he'll be back before you know it," LaFleur said. "Same thing with Josh. Seeing him yesterday, he's fired up to be here. He was in great spirits and looked really good."

Johnson and Sweat won't practice, but they still count toward the 90-man training camp roster limit. They are permitted to attend meetings and can return to practice at any point during the preseason.

Johnson is entering his fourth season as a starter, while Sweat had a career-high 12 sacks last season.

The other two on the PUP list — cornerback Garrett Williams (Achilles tendon) and Tip Reiman (ankle) — are still recovering from serious injuries that happened last season.

LaFleur's first training camp — including the quarterback battle — has been overshadowed by off-the-field issues over the past few weeks.

The NFL suspended Cardinals personnel executive Ryan Gold indefinitely on July 17 for violating the league’s gambling policy. The league said its investigation determined that Gold provided confidential, non-public inside information regarding 2026 draft selections by the Cardinals before the picks were announced, and Gold also participated in parlay bets on NFL and college games.

Gold is in his 13th season with the organization.

More recently, Cardinals offensive lineman Isaiah Adams was arrested in Canada on four weapons charges. Adams, a third-year player who is competing for a starting spot, was at camp Thursday.

The 25-year-old was charged with possession of a firearm obtained in a crime, possession of a restricted/prohibited firearm, no license while in possession of a loaded firearm and possessing a prohibited device. Adams’ attorney, Adam Weisberg, said in a statement that Adams is "completely innocent in this matter."

"He's doing good," LaFleur said of Adams. "I'm not going to comment too much on that obviously ... but he's doing good and it's good to see him."

Croatia is a team that has always punched above its weight with this core, finishing second at the 2018 World Cup and third in 2022. But it could not quite match that level of success this time, going out in heartbreaking fashion in the round of 32 after a stoppage-time winner from Gonçalo Ramos gave Portugal a 2-1 victory.

Croatia had a poor start to the tournament, losing to England, but managed to squeak out victories against Panama and Ghana to finish second in the group. That set up a difficult round of 32 matchup against Portugal, where Croatia came close but could not get over the line.

So what's next for the players who led Croatia to the last 32?

The 40-year-old maestro, known as one of the greatest midfielders of all time, more likely than not played in his final World Cup. Yet again, Luka Modrić was the leader in the middle of the park for Croatia.

He did not start the tournament with his best performance, giving up a penalty and struggling against England, but he grew into the tournament like he always does. Modrić was the composer in Croatia’s midfield, controlling the tempo and helping Croatia stay alive after that opening loss.

He always shows up on the biggest stages for Croatia and earned his 200th cap during the tournament. He is the greatest player in Croatia’s history. Modrić currently plays for Serie A club AC Milan.

Ivan Perišić is another Croatian veteran who always seems to show up for his country. Even at 37, he remained a pivotal piece of the Croatian attack on the wing.

Perišić was involved in one goal and two assists during this campaign, including the go-ahead goal against Portugal. When the lights shine the brightest, Perišić always finds a way to make an impact for Croatia, and that was the case again in this tournament.

At 37, this could also be his final World Cup. Perišić currently plays for PSV Eindhoven in the Eredivisie.

Dominik Livaković, 31, has now been between the posts for Croatia in multiple international tournaments, and he was key again with several decisive saves throughout the World Cup.

His clean sheet against Panama was especially important, helping Croatia squeak out a crucial 1-0 win in the group stage. Croatia needed that result after losing its opening match, and Livaković played a major role in making sure it got over the line.

Livaković currently plays for Fenerbahçe in the Turkish Süper Lig.

Nikola Vlašić scored the pivotal winning goal against Ghana in the 83rd minute, a goal that proved decisive in helping Croatia finish second in the group.

Vlašić has now been a key player for Croatia across multiple international tournaments, and once again, he provided an important moment when Croatia needed it. The midfielder currently plays for Serie A club Torino.

Mateo Kovačić has been one of the mainstays of this Croatia team for years. The former Real Madrid and Chelsea midfielder, now with Manchester City, has been a crucial part of Croatia’s midfield alongside Luka Modrić.

Kovačić provides dynamism in midfield and has been part of Croatia’s golden generation through its best World Cup runs. The 32-year-old is currently at Manchester City, but reports indicate he may be on his way out after a difficult, injury-hit season with the club.

Joško Gvardiol, 24, is known as one of the best defenders in the world and provided important versatility for Croatia throughout the tournament.

Simone Biles was back in a hospital recently to undergo a "procedure" more than a month after she "almost" died.

Biles shared a selfie of herself and her husband, NFL player Jonathan Owens, on her Instagram Story, praising him for taking her to her procedure on his birthday.

Biles was sporting a hospital gown and cap with Owens by her side as the couple smiled for the photo.

The gold-medal gymnast posted white hearts and happy-crying emojis with the picture.

Biles has not released specifics about what caused her "medical emergency" that resulted in her going to the hospital last month, but said only that it "could have ended very differently."

"This was one of, if not the scariest experience of my life, especially since Jonathan was in [Indianapolis] for practices. I've been in bed resting this week. I'll explain sooner or later, but [shoutout] to my close circle who reached out, checked in, visited & or sent flowers," she wrote at the time.

Biles' husband, Jonathan Owens, is a safety for the Indianapolis Colts. The couple has been married since 2023, though Owens' NFL career has occasionally forced them to spend time apart. Since entering the league as an undrafted free agent in 2018, he has played for five different teams.

The two met while Owens was with the Houston Texans in 2019. Biles lives in Texas, where the couple has built a massive home together. Since his time in Houston, Owens has also played for the Green Bay Packers, the Chicago Bears and now the Colts.
