How would you feel about a Star Craft game set at just when the colony ships just arrived in Koprulu Sector and now have to settle and fight eachother to assert dominance?

Got the idea after seeing somone make a cyoa about such a scenario, called The Koprulu Sector: Colonization if you wanted to know.

I thought it could play something where gameplay uses the standard Star Craft gameplay when battling for a planet but a more empire management for researching and creating a fleet to open up planets to invasion via your ground troops and to keep your people alive.

Clarification: just a fun thought experiment.

PS: like hearing thoughts or comments or if you would add your own suggestions.

I want to write out my thoughts and have a discussion, which we can hopefully do in a constructive manner.

my preface is, that i would like to revert to the 12 workers and see all the other changes play out, but the 8 worker seem to stay for now so, for the sake of the argument lets go from there.

Zerg

As of now they seem to have a overtuned midgame, but this also is amplified by protoss having seismic shifts and being mighty confused and terran having a absolutely horrid time with their early economy, which will now change.

But i absolutely feel Zerg lategame still needs a buff against toss, a sentiment which is discussed less now as there are less games going late, due to the aforementioned overtuned midgame of zerg.

Terran

With a 300 mineral cc the economic early game dread is alliviated, but at the cost of a reduction for their iron bank in the game, which can be worrisome, as people fear terran turtle to be too powerful especially paired with the buff to ghosts.

One problem that i believe to identify is that terran simply lacks real options in mid and late game to assert themselves on to the map or restrict their opponent.

Terran needs some sort of Anchor on the battlefield or is likely to be crushed, which very often are sieged tanks and libs with their ghosts, additionally a planetary offering more security reinforces a defensiv playstyle.

So to be more precise, terran armies are very very weak on the move and powerful when stationary and ready

AND their inability to deal with runby and warping in zealots, which causes them to be pinned at home.

Protoss

With the change to their warpgates toss has to learn a new concept that is dictated by the flow of the game and with it the changing of their gateways, the amount 3-4 gateways can produce is absolutely insane, i think the 50% productionspeed increase is insane and will be nerfed later down the line.

Once the later stages of midgame or lategame is achieved it is porbably correct to boom the gateway count and make them to warpgates and faster warpins will be very strong and i foresee protoss return to the greatest representation in gm, given enough time without more changes,

BUT

toss early game will be a struggle for quite some time and make them more vulnerable to drops, runby and nydus play which will cause toss to also be incentivesed to play their early game rather defensive if they are not trying to do a cheeky early pressure.

Brainstorming

ill try to use as little changes as possible to achieve my goals, please be free to disagree with the use of arguments

Zerg

Goal

a tool to break or atleast make it more feasible to break open entrenched ghost positions and contest lategame skytoss that is supported by category 5 storms

lategame upgrade for the infestor, requiring hive, specifically the microbial shroud to reduce spelldamage and effectiveness of spells by 33%

meaning less effect of timewarp or stasis aswell

Terran

Goal

(those changes will sound nuts, hear me out^^)

allowing terran to take outward bases and have the options to move out more frequently and making battlecruiser less of a poke unit that attacks and jumps to safety to an engage unit that brings the battle to the enemy

Upgrades in the Fusioncore

Empowering the raven autoturret to have more hitpoints, doing light solash damage and bonus to light units when dropped close to a cc, orbital or pf

Granting the Thor an Aura that shields nearby non psionic ground units, if they would take fatal damage, by 35 points for 0,5 seconds, this aura should be relatively small, so that a mix of thors scattered through out a moving army could be interesting

(as preface, nerf bc movementspeed by roughly 5% and the jump should require vision of the target location when initiating the jump)

upgrade that requires yamato cannon, granting battlecruiser a 100 point shield, +2 weapon damage and +20% movementspeed for 5 seconds after completing tactical jump.

Protoss

Goal

synergies sentries with shield batteries to help defend the early game and give another option for early aggression, with the use of fast warpin pylons and offensive shield batteries while reducing the devastation and frequency a warp prism brings in the midgame.

Additionally give a form of mitigation of the emp to the Archon, but also make it a choice to form them, as they cost more ressources, letting the toss have a few less minerals to spam on zealots

passive ability unlocked for shield batteries when you complete a robotics facility

increase the amount of shields regenerated when targeting a unit or structure in guardian shield by 50%

reduce the cost of a warp prism by 50 minerals, but

each unit warped in the energy field of a warpprism drains 25 energy from a warp prism

Merge Archon requires 75 minerals and 25 gas, but increase their shield by 50.

Upgrade in Templar Archive that requires a dark shrine, reducing the effectiveness of emp by 50% against Archons and making them immune to mind control

i know there are some crazy changes, but i hope others have some wacky ideas aswell^^

So it was perceived that ghosts were OP and play diversity was bad.

What does the intern do? BUFF ghosts in the fixes so they now only use 2 supply.

They make CC’s cost 300.

Terrans were already very greedy with early 2 and 3 CC. Now they’ll be even more greedy.

Hey all, the previous voting for the wildcard worst quote came out a little... peculiar. I could just ignore the top comments and go with the first one that strictly adheres to the rules and format, but instead I decided to try and balance out the rules with popular consensus and the general silly spirit of the wildcard round. Howdy, I’m the Blizzard intern, hwhat made Patch 5.0.16 and all.

I lowered the worker start to 8 because y’all were gettin’ rich too dang fast. Back in my day, we started with one SCV, a mule named Bessie, and seventeen minerals of medical debt. Then I made Gateways build faster but charged Protoss 25/25 to turn ’em into Warpgates, because teleportin’ an entire army across the map oughta cost at least one tank of diesel.

I gave Zerg faster larva, more expensive Hatcheries, slower Creep, and slower Overlords because I wanted every Zerg opening to feel like herdin’ pregnant cattle through wet cement. Then I fixed 400 random animations, selection priorities, sound effects, Queen facing directions, and Disruptor behavior because I accidentally opened the Data Editor and couldn’t find the exit. Anyway, the goal was “more strategic diversity.” If'n you 'member that some of them fixin's was actually makin' more bugs, then I'd kindly ask yee to forget.

Please stop emailing Blizzard. I am the only employee left, and I am currently balancing Protoss Air Armor while operating a forklift.
