World-class stablemates, super flyweight John “Scrappy” Ramirez (16-1, 9 KOs), rated No. 1 in the world by the World Boxing Association (WBA), and WBA No. 5-rated super middleweight Darius “DFG” Fulghum (14-1-1, 12 KOs) will fight on the same card for only the second time this Friday in a pair of 10-round bouts in San Jose, California.

Ramirez and Fulghum are both represented by 3 Point Management (3 PM) and promoted by Golden Boy Promotions. They will be in action Friday night on a Golden Boy event that will be streamed live from SAP Center in San Jose.

Also, world rated at No. 6 and No. 12, respectively, by the World Boxing Council (WBC) and World Boxing Organization (WBO), Ramirez is a native of Los Angeles who had been patiently waiting for unified (WBA, WBC, WBO and Ring Magazine) World Super Flyweight Champion Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez (23-0, 16 KOs) to decide, as recently reported, that he’s moving up to the bantamweight division, opening up the super flyweight weight class.

Ramirez takes on Van “The Trigger” Tran (19-2, 11 KOs), who will be making his USA debut. The Vietnamese boxer has been the International Boxing Association (IBA) and WBO Global Bantamweight Champion.

“I’ve been trusting in the process so long that I’m not trying to make a statement, I know what I do,” Ramirez remarked. “I’m an exciting fighter and I’m going to just go for the win.

“When the fights were announced, I told Darius I was so grateful that he’s on the card, because we were getting ready together to fight, and that gives me an extra push. I don’t feel alone and it’s more enjoyable training together. There’ more to it. Only a few in the gym compete like me and Darius. We work hard and there’s no giving up when it gets tough. He’s the only one who keeps up with me and we compete with each other. He’s going where I’m going, we are experiencing the same things and are going through the same process. We share the ring together and have the same goal (world champion). Same situations on this journey.”

Disappointed with his last 2 fight performances – draw and loss – Houston-based Fulghum trained for his upcoming fight at Brickhouse Boxing Club, where LA-native “Scrappy” is based, in North Hollywood, California.

Fulghum takes on Miami-based Yoanki “Diamante” Urrutia (172, 7 KOs), who is a product of the famed Cuban amateur boxing system. In his last amateur fight in 2019, Urrutia lost a decision to Younli Hernandez, who as a pro today is rated the No. 1 middleweight in the world by the WBA, as well as No. 2 by Ring Magazine and the WBC, and WBO No.3 .

“I plan to dominate the action on May 22nd and put myself right back in the mis with the top guys at 168,” Fulghum said. “I’m happy to be fighting on the same card with my brother, ‘Scrappy’. His energy adds together with mine and makes fight week fun and exciting because we aren’t alone. We are on this journey together to become world champions.”

This will be only the second time Ramirez and Fulghum have fought on the same card: April 20, 2025, at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. “Scrappy” suffered the lone loss of his pro career to David Jimenez by way of a 12-round unanimous decision in their WBA Super Flyweight Interim title match; Fulghum stopped Cristian Olivas in the fourth round.

After 600+ Make Weird Music videos spotlighting players in the odd-meter-and-sound universe, founder Anthony Garone is releasing his first full-length album since 2007. “OK, but why?” is releasing on Moonjune Records and features 14 tracks with 20 guest musicians.

Expect tight counterpoint, odd-meter grooves, and hooks that still land as songs, even when the arrangements are trying to misbehave. Anthony is available for podcasts, print/online interviews, and playthrough/composition breakdowns. Some angles:

• Writing music that is intentionally hard, but still melodic, and why “complex-but-melodic” is the whole point.
• What it takes to coordinate 20 guest musicians and turn years of YouTube releases into a cohesive label release.
• The title is literal: After failing to sell 100 copies of his previous album, Garone assumed nobody wanted this music, including him, and he kept writing it anyway.
• The Bach BWV 1060 is nearly unplayable, even for the musicians he hired.
Most tracks first appeared on YouTube, now remixed/remastered and often re-recorded for this album
• Includes a rethink/cover of Robert Fripp’s “Erudite Eyes” (from Giles, Giles, & Fripp) plus two movements from Bach’s BWV 1060
• Guests include Morgan Ågren, Michael Manring, Gretchen Menn, Jan Zehrfeld, Andy West, Tom Monda, Paul Hanson, Sebastian Lanser, and more

OK, but why? pulls together Garone’s best work, obsessing over arrangements that are equal parts song and puzzle. While much of the music existed publicly in earlier forms, this release is the cleaned-up, finished version: updated performances, improved production, and a cohesive arc that finally connects the dots across years of ideas.

The album moves between oddly-timed grooves, tight counterpoint, and melodic hooks that sneak in through the side door. A few album anchors:

• “Binge” (the Make Weird Music theme) runs on shifting meters (9 + 7) and features Morgan Ågren (Mats/Morgan, Devin Townsend) and Michael Manring.
• “Dance” is written as “the worst dance song ever” in 13/4, built on whole tone harmony and a prime-number motif, featuring Tom Monda (Thank You Scientist). It started as a joke demo Garone never expected to finish until Owen Dueck forced the song into existence.
• “Brex” is designed to feel like 4/4 while pulling against it in 5/4, featuring Paul Hanson (Béla Fleck and the Flecktones) on electric bassoon and a nod to King Crimson’s rhythmic language.
• “Harnch 2.0” revisits a Pat Metheny-meets-Gentle Giant inspired piece with a feature solo by Gretchen Menn.
• The album also includes Garone’s rework of Bach BWV 1060 (Mov. 1 and Mov. 3) and his updated version of Fripp’s “Erudite Eyes.”
• Even when the arrangements get absurd, the goal is still a song you can remember, not an exercise you admire from a distance.
• The record is technical by nature, but it was assembled around personality: obsession, self-doubt, and the occasional decision to make something deliberately ridiculous.

Anthony Garone is an author, entrepreneur, guitarist, composer, and producer, and the founder of Make Weird Music, a long-running YouTube platform focused on progressive music, challenging performances, and modern composition. He is best known for his 22-year journey to learn King Crimson’s Fracture, and documenting his journey in a YouTube series and book titled Failure to Fracture. “OK, but why?” is his first full-length release since 2007. He can record remotely, and he is available for 30 to 60 minute interviews as well as short playthrough or composition breakdown segments.

The Professional Fighters League (PFL) today announced the complete fight card for its upcoming PFL MENA event on Friday, June 19, live from the King Abdullah Sports City Indoor Arena in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The card will feature tournament matchups in the Featherweight and Welterweight divisions alongside showcase bouts highlighting some of the region’s fastest-rising talent. Tickets are now on sale via Platinumlist on this link, with prices starting from SAR 35.

Headlining the event, Saudi Arabia’s Hattan Alsaif (4-0 AM) will make her highly anticipated professional debut in a 110-pound catchweight bout against Algeria’s Dania Ouhachi (1-1) Undefeated during her amateur career, Alsaif has emerged as one of the Middle East’s most recognizable MMA prospects through her explosive performances and growing popularity across the region.

Undefeated Saudi flyweight Malik Basahel (3-0) returns to action against Morocco’s Imad El Azami (1-0) in a Flyweight Showcase Bout. Basahel has finished all three of his professional victories under the PFL MENA banner and enters the matchup looking to continue his rapid rise in front of a home crowd.

The event will also feature opening-round tournament action in the PFL MENA Featherweight and Welterweight divisions. Morocco’s Rachid El Hazoume (15-4) faces Egypt’s Ahmed Tarek (7-1) in a Featherweight Tournament bout, while Algeria’s Elias “Smile” Boudegzdame (20-9) takes on Iraq’s Hussein “Buffalo” Salem (12-6) in another key matchup at 145 pounds.

At welterweight, Morocco’s Badreddine “Dreamchaser” Diani (10-4) meets Egypt’s Yousef “El Abrawy” Adel (7-0), Palestine’s Omar “187” Hussein (11-7) faces Egypt’s Ahmed “The Egyptian Eagle” Darwish (3-1), and Morocco’s Wissame Akhmouch (7-2) squares off against Algeria’s Abdelkrim Zouad (7-2) as fighters begin their campaigns toward the PFL MENA championship.
