The two-day event started with an intimate ceremony. The bride wore a suit and it was super quick. Then, on the second day, they had another ceremony led by Elephant in a Room, that was much more personal and emotional. “We didn’t have a traditional ceremony like other weddings,” they said. “He had constructed the whole thing without us knowing anything (or not too much). Because of this, it was a very emotionally intense ceremony. And in the background we had Sarah Neyrinck who played some amazing live music, to make it all work together and providing that extra layer of depth.”

The venue was transformed into something between a cabaret set and an underground members club. Crimson fabric wrapped the space from ceiling to floor while silver trays, vanity mirrors, pearls and piles of red sweets sat amongst the tables. Guests found the seating plan hidden within the drapery, while sensual visuals flickered across giant screens throughout the evening. Even the florals rejected tradition. Instead of carrying a standard bouquet, Brigitte held a hanging floral arrangement suspended from pearl chains.

Creating the right atmosphere was just as important, every detail was designed to heighten the experience. Before dinner, guests’ hands were misted with rose emulsion. Food arrived through clouds of dry ice, referencing the misty night the couple first met. They also did a second ceremony, but in a very unique way. “Ours was divided in 4/5 moments throughout the whole day. Building up from the start of the day up until after the desserts where we gave each other the rings around a bonfire. We did it this way because we’re both not big fan of sitting down for 1.5 hours and having nothing to eat or drink. So we cut it up so that everybody had the opportunity to enjoy our the amazing food and drinks they had made.”

Despite the scale of the wedding and venue transformation, Birgitte and Anthony handed almost complete creative control over to their planners, and had zero stress. “FERMfeest was our biggest expense because they provided a total package,” they explained. “95% of our wedding came in house from them. They arranged flowers, dressed up the venue, made the food, staff,… Literally almost everything. It couldn’t have been easier for us.”

Before guests arrived, the couple were given a rare moment alone inside the finished venue to see everything and take photos. It became one of their favourite memories from the day. “The moment we arrived at the venue and we were all by ourselves for a short while was amazing,” Birgitte said. “We opened the doors to the venue really had the time to let our jaws drop and be amazed by the beauty that was created for us. We were alone for a half an hour and just enjoyed each other in a setting that was created for us.”

Amanda and Connor got married at A Little White Wedding Chapel at midday, ate burgers at In-N-Out by 1pm, spent the afternoon inside Meow Wolf, then ended the night in dive bars before heading to the Neon Museum. From the beginning, they knew exactly what they didn’t want: a big, traditional wedding with timelines, formalities and months of pressure.

“We’d always heard that weddings are stressful and expensive, and that never really appealed to us,” Amanda explained. “We also knew we wouldn’t enjoy being the centre of attention for an entire day.”

Amanda’s dress came from Have Dress Bridal and Connor wore a suit from Twisted Tailor, both were bought online.

Vegas gave them the freedom to keep things simple and spontaneous. They leaned fully into what Vegas weddings are is known for, choosing an Elvis officiant and a ceremony that lasted around fifteen minutes. “Our ceremony was everything we wanted. Fun, relaxed, and completely us,” Amanda continued. “We had an Elvis officiant who sang three songs of our choice, which made it feel really personal and a bit surreal in the best way.”

Afterwards, they met up with Ximena of To Have Her who photographed them around the downtown area, entirely on film. “We had to wait a couple of months to see the images once they were developed and digitised, but that just made the whole experience feel even more exciting and meaningful.”

Once they were back home in the UK and settled back into normal life, they planned a second celebration at the Corn Exchange in Hertford, a venue they already loved from going to gigs there. They had a big party, without the pressure of it being a wedding, with all their loved ones. They had Papa John’s pizza deliveries throughout the night and Colin and Connie the Caterpillar cakes.

Looking back, neither of them would change anything. “Planning our wedding felt more like putting together the perfect day out than organising a traditional wedding”, Amanda concluded. ““It’s your day, your money, your body, your memories, so do it for you!”

Kimmy and James planned a 14-person micro wedding with a black, gold and orange palette inspired by Halloween Horror Nights in Orlando, where James proposed during their annual trip. The ring came in a black velvet coffin box and featured an opal stone surrounded by skulls and roses. From there, the aesthetic unfolded naturally. Matte black stationery with gold foil lettering sat alongside tiger lilies, skull candles and a coffin-shaped card holder.

TIL DEATH was also stitched across the back of Kimmy’s leather jacket, which she had made by Niamh Designs, in white lettering above two skeleton hands locked in a pinky promise. It summed up the mood of the whole wedding.

Kimmy’s style shaped much of the visual direction. “I have a very edgy, rebellious style but most of the gothic weddings I was seeing on Pinterest focused on reds and purples. My love for orange tiger lily flowers had to play a part,” she said. “The colour palette ended up being black, gold, and orange which isn’t one you see often in weddings! The fun part was trying to find creative ways to make it sexy, spooky, and a whole vibe without making it Halloween or tacky.”

They also kept the guest list very small. They skipped having a bridesmaids or groomsmen and focused on making the whole experience feel personal and relaxed. Kimmy’s grandmother also officiated the ceremony.

James is an extremely private person who does not show his face online, so documenting the day became a creative collaboration between the couple and photographer Desiree. “With James being a private person, we knew there needed to be creative ways to showcase the wedding without revealing his identity,” Kimmy explained. “We found ways to lean into the emotion, intimacy and make the vibes more artistic, mysterious, and moody which honestly fit the vibe and the aesthetic and made the photos more enticing in my opinion!” This gave the gallery a cinematic quality and they used stairwells, empty hotel rooms and dim corners as creative portrait locations.

Looking back, the couple only had one real regret. They wish they had shared a single long dinner table with their guests rather than sitting separately at a sweetheart table. “Having the sweetheart table, although nice, made us sad we missed out on all the lovely conversations everyone else was having,” Kimmy said. “With our guest list being so small, we definitely could have had one big table to make it cosier.”
