Let me break this down. The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) introduced the eNaira on October 25, 2021, as a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) aimed at revolutionizing financial transactions in the country.

This digital form of the Naira offers a secure and convenient means of conducting transactions, set to provide individuals and businesses with easier access to capital and financial services.

How eNaira was built

According to the CBN, from conception, the e-Naira has followed a careful thought and implementation process, beginning with understanding current realities in Nigeria’s evolving payment landscape, working with clear objectives and principles built from those realities, meticulously laying out the aspects of the architecture and infrastructure and keeping note of real-time risk management protocols.

Issues regarding cashless policy, National Financial Inclusion Strategy, Bank Verification Number, Shared Agent Network Expansion Facility, License categorization for the Payment System and Establishment of NIBSS Payment Infrastructure, were all put into consideration.

What is the Benefit of eNaria

Stated by the CBN, the e-Naira is expected to foster economic growth by offering easier access to capital and financial services which will increase economic activities at low/no interest transaction rates.

It is also expected to provide secure and cheaper diaspora remittance options and make such transactions faster.

Due to its traceability, e-Naira makes it more difficult for individuals or organizations to indulge in fraud.

While the impossibility of being forged, makes it very strong and reliable, the e-Naira provides financial inclusion by making financial services available to communities without enough banking opportunities.

Local and international trade are expected to be increased with the emergence of e-Naira, and the nation’s digital currency is expected to aid revenue collection by reducing the cost of handling cash.

Other Benefits

With the e-Naira, diaspora payments are also expected to become cheaper and safer to ensure individuals get more value for every Naira they earn.

As regards local payments, people can boycott the queues and pay taxes, and bills from the comfort of their homes in an easier and dependable fashion.

Challenges and Limitations: eNaira Struggles to Fulfill Expectations in Boosting Remittances and Informal Economy

The eNaira, Nigeria's Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) and the Africa's first, has not met expectations in terms of boosting remittances and improving the informal economy, despite significant investments by the Central Bank of Nigeria to promote awareness of digital currency.

According to a new report by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), less than one percent of banking customers in Nigeria have downloaded the eNaira wallet, even two years after its launch. Among those who downloaded the wallet, less than 2 percent have used it for any transactions. Surprisingly, the total number of eNaira transactions stands at 802,000, which is lower than the number of downloaded wallets at 919,000.

The eNaira was introduced with three primary objectives, as outlined by the CBN. The first was to increase financial inclusion, which led to the expansion of the eNaira wallet in August 2022 to include anyone with a mobile phone, regardless of whether they have a bank account. It is estimated that around 38 million Nigerians, representing approximately 36 percent of the adult population, do not have a bank account. The CBN has taken regulatory measures, such as issuing Payment Bank Licences to telecom operators, to increase the number of adults with access to banking services, and recent data from the Payment Service Banks (PSBs) indicate some progress in this area.

However, the same level of success has not been seen with the eNaira. The IMF report reveals that retail eNaira wallets accounted for only about 860,000 as of November 2021, which is equivalent to 0.8 percent of the country's active bank accounts. Merchant wallet downloads reached approximately 100,000 in June 2022, representing just one-eleventh of the number of merchants with Point-of-Sale (PoS) terminals.

Another objective of the eNaira was to facilitate remittances, considering that Nigeria is a significant destination for remittances in sub-Saharan Africa. The plan was to reduce the transfer costs and make it easier for the Nigerian diaspora to send funds to Nigeria using their eNaira wallets. However, the challenge lies in the lack of public trust in Nigeria's monetary system and the eNaira's technological reliability. According to the IMF, the technological reliability of the eNaira is crucial to counter the pressures of substituting it with foreign fiat currencies and crypto assets, inflation rate and the absence of alternative inflation hedging mechanisms.

Furthermore, the eNaira aimed to reduce the size of the informal economy, which contributes over half of Nigeria's GDP and employs 80 percent of the workforce. The account-based nature of the eNaira was expected to bring individuals who download and register into the formal economy, thus increasing transparency in informal payments and strengthening the tax base, as noted by the IMF report.

However, the majority of eNaira wallets remain inactive, indicating limited progress in the informal sector. The IMF report reveals that the average number of eNaira transactions per week since its launch is only around 14,000, which accounts for just 1.5 percent of the total number of wallets. In other words, 98.5 percent of wallets have not been used at all in any given week. The average value of an eNaira transaction is approximately N923 million per week, with an average transaction value of N60,000.

Despite the CBN's announcement of over 700,000 transactions totaling about N8 billion on the eNaira platform during its one-year anniversary, the overall utilization and impact of the eNaira remain limited.

According to the 2012 report on religion and public life by the Pew Research Center, in 2010, 49.3% of Nigeria's population was Christian, 48.8 % was Muslim, and 1.9 percent were followers of indigenous and other religions or unaffiliated.

However, in a report released by Pew Research Center in 2015, the Muslim population was estimated to be 50%, and by 2060, according to the report, Muslims will account for about 60% of the country.

The 2010 census of the Association of Religion Data Archives has also reported that 48.8% of the total population was Christian, slightly larger than the Muslim population of 43.4%, while 7.5% were members of other religions.

However, these estimates should be taken with caution because sample data is mostly collected from major urban areas in the south, which are predominantly Christian.

Islam dominates North-Western Nigeria (Hausa, Fulani, and others), with 99% Muslim, and a good portion of Northern Eastern Nigeria (Kanuri, Fulani, and other groups) Nigeria.

In the west, the Yoruba tribe is predominantly split between Muslims and Christians with 10% adherents of traditional religions.

Nigeria has the largest Muslim population in sub-Saharan Africa. The Yoruba area contains a large Anglican population, while Igboland is a mix of Roman Catholics, Protestants, and a small population of Igbo Jews.

The Edo area is composed predominantly of members of the Assemblies of God, which was introduced into Nigeria by Augustus Ehurie Wogu and his associates at Old Umuahia.

To do this click on the Edit pencil. A pop-up box will open, you see the created “HTML Sitemap” page. Tick the check box to add this to the main menu.
- Make sure the link to the page is not broken.

Testing the Operation

Like every other performed changes you have to test the update made to your site. This is to make sure there are no errors and to know the run of the new update. To test and confirm the new customization,
- view your site or blog
- Navigate to the new page like how a reader would do
- click on it and keep note to the change.

Introducing New Netflix Mobile Games

Movie streaming media, Netflix, has released five new games on its platform, with the objective of promoting the brand to globally become the biggest go-to app for entertainment.

This is coming after the purchase of the California-based Night School Studio, the creators of Oxenfree, a paranormal thriller game to break into the gaming sector.

Two of the games released are based on the Netflix horror series Stranger Things, while the other three are classified as undercard and skill mobile games.

This was made known in the release distributed by the company which noted that there would be more to watch out for.

We’re excited to take our first step in launching Netflix games on mobile to the world, the company said in the release.

According to the company, the team is set to begin the building of a game library that would offer something for everyone.

To achieve the projected increase in value of the platform by introducing a game forum, and leading its gaming team, Netflix recruited Facebook’s Mike Verdu, a talented video game veteran.

The released games are free to assess by Netflix users, and currently, only subscribers in countries like Italy, Poland, and Spain have access to the games since the global rollout on Tuesday.

“Just like our series, films, and specials, we want to design games for any level of play and every kind of player,” Netflix noted.

For now, the games are designed to play on Android phones or tablets that have functional Netflix accounts. iPhones and iPads do not have access for now.

This is The Reason Why Chinese Kids Are Rare to Be Found Playing Games

These days, it is rarer than usual to see the engagements of an average Chinese youth.

This is coming after the Chinese Government placed restrictions and limits on the gaming time for minors to three hours per week and must be from 8:00 p.m to 9:00 p.m. on Fridays and weekends.

This decree was made in a bid to stop gaming addiction facing the country and was effective since September 1, 2021 according to the statement of the Chinese government said through its National Press and Publication Administration.

According to the Chinese authority and its regulators, gamers under the age of 18 are barred from playing on weekdays and limited their play to just three hours most weekends, as a response to show concern, noting that game addiction affects the physical and mental health of children.

The new rules will require all gaming platforms to be linked to a state-operated anti-addiction system and require that all users be verified with a real-life identity.

It would increase the frequency and intensity of inspections of online gaming companies to ensure time limits were put in place.

The regulators also said they will step up compliance checks to ensure companies enforce the new rules.

Also, the rules apply to industries providing online game services to minors, limiting their ability to serve those users outside designated hours.

The companies also are not allowed to provide services to users who haven’t logged in with real-name registration, preventing them from simply remaining ignorant to their users’ backgrounds.

It would increase the frequency and intensity of inspections of online gaming companies to ensure time limits were put in place.

As stated by the regulator, there are steps up measures to punish gaming firms that violate the rules and have increased penalties given after inspections, expressing that more than 10,000 gaming titles were reviewed last year.

It noted minors could still use their parents’ accounts to bypass the restrictions, to tackle this, parents and schools also need to step up supervision.

This new proclamation marked a significant boom of restrictions on the country’s massive gaming industry and the disapproval of youth gaming, as the country’s gaming giants like Tencent and NetEase, have recently dealt with minor gaming with their regulations.

China’s biggest gaming company, Tencent Holdings, limited gaming time for minors and ban children under age 12 from making in-game purchases following a critique from the Chinese government.

This was in an article published by the Economic Information Daily, a newspaper affiliated with China’s official Xinhua News Agency, called games “spiritual opium” and this led to a more than 10 per cent plunge in Tencent’s stocks.

Although the article was later removed, the damage was done, as the company lost $60 billion in market value.

The newspaper article named Tencent’s wildly popular Honour of Kings game as one that minors were addicted to, and cited a student as saying that some played the game for eight hours a day. The online article was removed hours later.

Spiritual opium has grown into an industry worth hundreds of billions, no industry should be allowed to develop in a manner that will “destroy a generation.
Society has come to recognise the harm caused by online gaming, and it is often referred to as opium for the mind or electronic drugs.

Parents quoted in the article spoke of children playing the game for seven hours a day, skipping breakfast to buy games, and their grades plummeting.

In response, Tencent said it will now limit gaming time for minors to one hour a day, and two hours a day during holidays.

Children under age 12 will also be prohibited from making purchases within the game, the company said.

Under Chinese law, users under age 18 can play online games for a maximum of one and a half hours a day, and three hours during holidays.

Tencent also called for the industry to control gaming time for minors and discuss the possibility of banning those younger than 12 from playing games.

The critique of the gaming industry sparked a sell-off of stocks in Chinese gaming companies including NetEase amid fears that the gaming industry could be the next to experience a clampdown.

Chinese authorities in recent months have targeted e-commerce and online education, implementing new regulations to curb anticompetitive behaviour after years of rapid growth in the technology sector.

In July, the Chinese government also banned companies that provide tutoring in core school subjects from turning a profit, wiping out billions in market value from online education companies such as TAL Education and Gaotu Techedu.

Why Was It Launched

According to the Lagos State Office of Sustainable Development Goals and Investment (SDG&I), the virtual book review platform is designed specifically for students in Lagos State to further promote literacy in the state.

It was also made known that the initiative is a noteworthy move towards enhancing the learning ability of students across the metropolis by encouraging a healthy reading culture.

Leading Artificial Intelligence (AI) hub, Data Science Nigeria (DSN), has launched the country’s first AI Startup Incubation and Research Centre.

The launch of this new AI startup incubation hub made it clear that the organization is set to promote its vision to build a world-class AI, knowledge research, and innovation ecosystem that would deliver high-impact transformational research.

Following the launch was a bespoke AI Startup Summit which was themed Building Nigeria’s Artificial Intelligence Unicorns, under the topic titled How to build scalable startups leveraging AI and exponential technologies.

At the event, It was emphasized that the fact still remains that artificial intelligence is a big game-changer, and is going to change how unicorns of the future will emerge.

Big technology company, Google LLC, has revealed a new development on google mail (Gmail) that will enable its users to make voice and video calls through the Gmail platform.

This was unveiled as part of a major expansion to Google Workspace, with the company saying it hopes to make spontaneous workplace meetings a more common occurrence.

The new development will be embedded in the update of the app and the web version, which means updated will be able to call friends and colleagues alike as Google looks to make the service one of its central apps.

As the company looks to make hybrid working less painful for workers spread between home and the office, direct calling using the company's Google Meet video conferencing tool will be coming to the Gmail mobile app.

The new Google Meet calling feature aims to ensure that users will no longer need to open up Google Meet to join a meeting or make a quick unprepared call, but can do so directly from the Gmail app itself.

Users will be able to open up their Gmail mobile app on Android or iOS and call contacts on their PC, laptop or mobile device, quickly and easily connecting co-workers.

According to Google, the new Meet calling feature is designed to be a seamless experience of initiating a video or audio call between one or more participants that better supports the flow of hybrid work by allowing for more spontaneous connections.

Google further made it known that its expanded call functions are not limited to Gmail and will also be coming to all the natural endpoints in Workspace including chats, contact cards and spaces.

This includes a new companion mode for Google Meet that will allow users to seamlessly join meetings from their personal device while leveraging in-room audio and video and will roll out from November 2021.

Google also revealed that Google Meet will soon be getting live-translated captions, available in English to French, German, Spanish and Portuguese later this year, with more languages coming soon.

Pokemon Company International, recently re-announced the release of the ongoing new episodic animated series.

The series titled Pokemon Evolutions is set to celebrate the Pokemon franchise’s 25th anniversary.

Unlike every other Pokemon show ever released, this 8-episode series will include all known regions of the Pokemon world explored in the core video game franchise.

This new series is being released one episode at a time and started on September 9.

The rest of the episodes will be released at odd times throughout the next several months.

The first episode goes by the name The Champion.

The Champion episode started in the Galar Region.

This news series is set not to play out in the same order the original games were released.

If it did, and as well as I know the Pokemon franchise, Kanto would have been the first.

According to my observation and what I saw, the series is in reverse and chronological order.

Looking at the dates each core series game was released. That’s Galar, Alola, Kalos, Unova, Sinnoh, Hoenn, Johto, and Kanto, marking a backward arrangement.

The series premiere's on the official Pokemon YouTube channel and is also available on Pokemon TV since September 9, 2021.

Pokemon TV is an app on mobile devices, smart TV devices, and Nintendo Switch, it is free for all users, including its contents.

The series is slated to run through September, October, and December. This is excluding November.

On Thursday, September 9 the Champion featuring the Galar region was released.

Its cloud services enable end-users to work on documents from different devices picking up from where they left off, thus providing the best satisfaction, improved business productivity as well as other economic and social benefits,.

The company’s litigation service on the mobile app provides a link for users to consult, engage and retain lawyers and law firms to handle their lawsuits across various jurisdictions and court hierarchies, while its logistic services involve pickup and delivery of legal documents, monitoring, and tracking of official approval requests, submissions and renewal of official documents regarding legal obligations.

Through its legal assistance, Paralex Logistics mobile app has the authorization to be an out-source service platform for rendering non-core in-house facilities for law firms, while its bail bond offering involves the provision of surety for persons undergoing investigation that may lead to a criminal trial or those in a criminal trial.

It is set to provide virtual court service as it has been tailored to the Nigerian Court System, while its webinar offering allows a smooth flow of meetings and conferences from across the globe.
