Best Foldable Electric Wheelchairs UK (2026): Heavy Duty, 25 Stone+ & Honest Reviews

Last updated: May 2026: Best Foldable Electric Wheelchairs UK (2026) After being stuck at home with a transit wheelchair from NHS Wheelchair Services that I couldn’t operate myself, I went on a deep dive into foldable electric wheelchairs. I bought my own, the KWK D09, I’ve travelled the world in it, and I’ve recommended chairs to so many readers over the years that it felt time to properly update this guide. Especially now I’ve had a massive upgrade to a Robooter E60 Pro. This post is for anyone who already knows a foldable electric wheelchair is the right choice for them and wants an honest breakdown of what’s actually worth buying in the UK in 2026, especially if you’re plus size, heavier than the average chair caters for, or just sick of being told that “multi-terrain” means anything at all. Quick Pick Comparison: Best Foldable Electric Wheelchairs UK 2026 Wheelchair Max User Weight Seat Width Frame Weight Price (from) Best For KWK D09 XL 28 stone (180kg) 21″ 25kg (no battery) £2,145 (cheapest from Sheffield Mobility) Quality heavy duty Robooter E60 Pro 23.5 stone (150kg) 20″ ~36kg (no battery) ~£3,795 Genuine all-terrain with omni wheels MX-MAX Multi Terrain 28 stone (180kg) 20.5″ 25kg (no battery) £1,399 Budget heavy-duty (NOT off-road) MobilityPlus+ RangerXL 25 stone (160kg) 20″ 26kg (no battery) £839.99 Best budget heavy-duty Etech Freedom Pro ST 25 stone (160kg) 20.5″ 26kg (no battery) £845.50 Budget heavy-duty alternative Freedom Chair A08L/DE08L 25 stone (160kg) 19″ 28.5kg (no battery) £2,290+ Well-known brand MobilityPlus+ Ultra-Light 19 stone (120kg) 17″ 24kg (no battery) £769.99 Best budget all-rounder Pride i-Go 18 stone (120kg) 17.5″ 19.8kg (no batteries) £1,559 Well-known brand A note on seat widths: Most of these folding electric wheelchair styles with the folding-arm mechanism can have washers added to the sides of the armrests to gain around 5cm (2″) of extra space, and that’s actually exactly what happens on most “XL” versions. They’re often the same chair frame with washers/spacers fitted as standard. If you’re between sizes, or worried a chair will feel too narrow, ring the retailer and ask whether washers can be added to widen the armrests. It’s a much cheaper fix than buying a different model, and many mobility shops will do it for you. Some, like the Freedom Chair range, sell official widening kits in 2.5″ or 4″ sizes. Prices change constantly, please double check before you buy. I don’t update this monthly. Don’t Forget VAT Relief When Buying a Wheelchair Before we get into chairs, one thing every foldable electric wheelchair shopper in the UK should know: you can usually buy your chair VAT-free. If you have a long-term illness or disability that significantly affects your daily life, HMRC’s VAT Relief scheme means you don’t pay the 20% VAT on mobility equipment bought for personal use. You don’t need to be registered disabled or claiming benefits, you just sign a short declaration at checkout. Conditions like arthritis, MS, EDS, fibromyalgia, chronic pain conditions, stroke, Parkinson’s, ME/CFS and many more typically qualify, as long as the condition is long-term (12+ months) and meaningfully affects your mobility. Most reputable mobility retailers handle this automatically. On a £2,145 chair like the KWK D09, that’s £429 saved. On the Robooter E60 Pro, you’re looking at savings of £750+. Always ask if it’s not obviously offered. The prices I’ve listed in this post are mostly the VAT-relief prices (where retailers list them that way), but always double check at checkout. The Truth About “All-Terrain” Folding Electric Wheelchairs This is the bit I wish someone had told me earlier, and honestly, it’s the reason I’m rewriting this post. Almost every folding electric wheelchair sold in the UK is NOT actually all-terrain, no matter what the listing or model name says. “Multi-terrain”, “all-terrain”, “off-road”, these words get slapped on chairs that, in reality, can handle smooth pavement, the odd dropped kerb, and gentle gradients. That’s it. The reason is simple: most folding powerchairs use small, standard front castor wheels. Castors swing around to change direction, which means they get stuck on uneven ground, snag on cobbles, dig into grass, and tip you forward on rough surfaces. A bigger battery or a name with “Multi Terrain” in it doesn’t change the physics. The Exception: Omni Wheels There is currently one folding electric wheelchair in the UK that I’d genuinely call all-terrain, the Robooter E60 Pro, which I now own and have been putting through its paces. Instead of standard castors, it uses omni wheels: fixed-forward front wheels made up of smaller side wheels that roll left and right when you turn. Because the front wheels don’t swing, the chair stays stable, the suspension can be much chunkier, and you can actually take on uneven terrain, gravel paths, grass, and kerbs of around 8cm without drama. Standard Folding Wheelchairs vs Omni Wheel Folding Wheelchairs Here’s what the difference actually means in real life: Feature Standard Folding Powerchair (e.g. KWK D09) Omni Wheel Folding Powerchair (Robooter E60 Pro) Front wheels Small castors that swing to turn Fixed-forward omni wheels with side rollers Smooth pavement Excellent Excellent Cracked pavement / dropped kerbs Manageable Effortless Cambered pavements (sloped to drain) Chair can drift sideways into the road Stays planted Cobbles Castors can stick and jolt Glides over Grass / parks Bogs down, castors dig in Designed for outdoor use Gravel paths Castors get stuck Designed for it Kerb height Around 3–4cm max Up to 8cm Suspension Minimal or none Dual suspension Turning in tight spaces Castors must swing round first Turns on the spot – no swing Stability on uneven ground Tippy, especially at the front Sturdy, planted feel Weight limit options Up to 28 stone (180kg) 23.5 stone (150kg) max Price From around £800 From around £3,795 + VAT The omni wheel design is genuinely a different category of chair, not just a fancier version of the same thing. If you mostly use your chair on pavement and shop floors, a standard folder is fine and will […]

AD Making Memories: Yorkshire Family Days Out

Since moving, life has been an exciting whirlwind of antique shopping, farm shops, and finding the best local Sunday lunches. One of the best things about where we’ve moved to is just how much there is to explore. We are right in the sweet spot between Sheffield, Rotherham, Doncaster and even Wakefield, which means we’re absolutely spoiled for choice and surrounded by countryside. We’ve been spending our weekends really enjoying exploring our new area. It’s been so lovely finding the rhythm of a new place, the kind of area where there are plenty of gorgeous village pubs for a Sunday roast and enough green space to actually breathe. Whether you’re looking for a quiet afternoon with a pram or something to tire out the older kids, or even just hang out as adults, there is so much to do. If you’re looking for some inspiration for your own Yorkshire family days out, here is what has been on our radar lately! The Classic Garden Centre Trip Now that I have got into gardening and I’m actually not bad at it, I do ask myself, is it even a weekend in Yorkshire if you don’t go to a garden centre? We’ve been exploring so many around us, but we have a few requirements. We need flat access for a wheelchair, good changing facilities if my nephew is joining, and, ideally, a very large slice of cake. Village Pubs The best part of these trips is often the drive home through the little villages surrounding Rotherham and Doncaster. We’ve found some amazing village pubs that are really welcoming for families and really surprisingly accessible! I keep adding places to the Sociability app, as in just a few photos, I can show other local Disabled people places to go! Exploring Accessible Yorkshire As most of you know, accessibility is always at the forefront of my mind when planning. I’m currently looking for accessible walks that fit into two categories: shorter loops that I can manage on my feet (on those “good” days where I can do a bit of walking) and longer, full-day excursions where I’ll be using my wheelchair. One thing I am absolutely desperate to try is the Tramper wheelchairs in Wentworth Castle Gardens Barnsley. These all-terrain electric scooters look amazing and it sounds like such a fun day out. It would be such a game-changer to be able to navigate the more rugged woodland trails without worrying about my wheelchair chair getting stuck in the mud or my legs giving up! For the Older Kids While my nephew is still at the “staring at a leaf in wonder” stage, I know a lot of you have older kids who need a bit more adrenaline to keep them occupied. If you want to go one step further than just a gentle stroll, Yorkshire has some incredible climbing centres and outdoor activity hubs. For the teenagers or more adventurous littles, heading to one of the climbing walls in Sheffield is a great shout. It’s such a good way to build confidence and burn off that endless energy. When you’re doing those more adventurous activities, even if it’s just a steep hike up to a viewpoint or a day at an activity centre, having the right gear makes such a difference. I’ve found that even for our more casual days out, swapping my usual flats for some proper outdoor shoes has been so much better. If your kids are actually scaling the walls, you can even get specific climbing shoes to give them that extra grip, which is a total must if they’re getting serious about it. Why We Love Where We Are Whether we are exploring the outskirts of Doncaster or heading into the fringes of the Peak District near Sheffield, there is a sense of peace and many so many hidden gems that are really exciting to find. I’m really looking forward to this summer and finding even more accessible routes. Being able to get outdoors, whether I’m walking or rolling is so important for my mental health, and I feel very lucky to call this part of the world home now. Do you have any recommendations for Yorkshire family days out? Let me know in the comments!

CurrentBody LED Hair Growth Helmet Review: Can Red Light Therapy Reverse Thinning?

If you have been searching for an honest CurrentBody LED Hair Growth Helmet review, you’re likely at the point where you’re tired of seeing more hair in your brush than on your head. Whether it’s down to stress, hormonal changes, or just general thinning, I know how much it can affect your confidence. I have only just received my device, so this is my initial first look and informational guide. I’m very excited to put this clinical-grade technology to the test to see if it can truly transform my hair after it thinned out so much while I was ill with my gallbladder. CurrentBody Discount Code: Use code GEORGINALED at checkout for an exclusive discount on the CurrentBody LED Hair Growth Helmet and all other CurrentBody devices. What is the CurrentBody LED Hair Growth Helmet? The CurrentBody LED Hair Growth Helmet is a wearable, medical-grade device designed to treat hair loss and thinning at the follicle level. Unlike messy topical serums or supplements that take months to show a hint of a result, this helmet uses Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) principles to deliver 120 high-performance LEDs directly to the scalp. It is FDA-cleared and clinically proven to increase hair count by up to 123% over a 12-week cycle. For those of us looking for a non-invasive, drug-free solution, the CurrentBody LED Hair Growth Helmet is the current market leader in home-use technology. The Science: Why This LED Hair Growth Helmet Works Precision is everything when it comes to light therapy. The CurrentBody LED Hair Growth Helmet uses two specific, clinically-backed wavelengths: By using the CurrentBody LED Hair Growth Helmet for just 10 minutes a day, you are essentially “recharging” your hair follicles to produce thicker, stronger strands. What Makes the New Design Different? CurrentBody has clearly listened to user feedback when designing the latest version of the CurrentBody LED Hair Growth Helmet. Here are the standout features: It’s actually really comfortable to wear and if you enjoy a quiet 10 minutes, I find the earphones really block out external sounds. My CurrentBody LED Hair Growth Helmet Routine After illness I’ve lost of lot of my hair, thankfully I had ridiculously thick hair beforehand so that unless you’re my hairdresser or me, it’s really not noticeable to other people. That doesn’t mean it doesn’t bother me though so I’m very excited to try this and hopefully regain some of my thickness back to my hair. My Plan: Is the CurrentBody LED Hair Growth Helmet Worth the Money? At £649.99, it is an investment. However, when you compare the CurrentBody LED Hair Growth Helmet to the cost of professional in-clinic laser sessions (which can easily run into the thousands), it is a much more cost-effective long-term solution. Plus, if you live with other people, you can share the device, meaning everyone gets thicker hair and you can share the cost. Plus, with my CurrentBody discount code GEORGINALED, you can make a significant saving at checkout! CurrentBody LED Hair Growth Helmet FAQ How long does it take to see results with the CurrentBody LED Hair Growth Helmet? Most people see a reduction in shedding within 4-6 weeks, with visible new growth appearing around the 12-week mark. There is a 4-month money-back guarantee as CurrentBody are confident that you will be impressed. Is the CurrentBody LED Hair Growth Helmet painful? Not at all! You might feel a very slight, relaxing warmth, but the CurrentBody LED Hair Growth Helmet is completely non-invasive. Can I use the CurrentBody LED Hair Growth Helmet on wet hair? No, for the best results and safety, always use your helmet on dry, clean hair. Final Verdict (Part 1) If you are serious about tackling hair thinning from the root, the CurrentBody LED Hair Growth Helmet is the most advanced home-use tool available. It’s easy to use, backed by science, and fits perfectly into a daily routine. Shop the CurrentBody LED Hair Growth Helmet here and don’t forget to use code GEORGINALED for your discount! Follow My Progress I will be updating this post with high-resolution before and after photos at the 8-week and 12-week marks. ZIIP Halo Review: 1 Year On & Why My 62-Year-Old Mum Is Obsessed

One thing you will always find in our beauty room is a gadget that actually works. We’ve been using the original ZIIP Halo for over a year now, and it is easily one of the most consistent tools in my routine. Recently, the brand launched the ZIIP Halo 2.0, and while my original device is still going strong, there are some exciting updates to discuss for anyone looking to invest. If you are looking for an honest ZIIP Halo review from someone who uses it nearly daily, or if you are specifically searching for a ZIIP discount code to save on your new device, you are in the right place. Get 10% Off With My ZIIP Discount Code: GEORGINAZIIP Before we dive into the long-term results, if you are ready to buy, you can save 10% on the ZIIP Halo 2.0, the original Halo, and all conductive gels by using my code at checkout. This code works globally and is the best way to make this investment more affordable. The Mum Test: Results on 60+ Skin My mum and I share a beauty room, so she has had full access to the ZIIP Halo for the last year. At 62, she doesn’t have many main concerns as she’s been really strict with her skincare all her life. However, she is starting to get fine lines, wrinkles, and wants to maintain her skin’s elasticity. While she has always taken care of her skin, the difference after a ZIIP session is undeniable. She looks incredibly glowing as soon as she finishes a treatment. One of her favourite things about the device is how it preps her face for the day. She has found that her makeup goes on a lot nicer and looks smoother because the device helps to depuff and “wake up” the skin cells. For mature skin, where makeup can sometimes settle into fine lines, the lifting effect of the ZIIP creates a much smoother canvas. She is not a “techy” person by any means, but she loves the ZIIP app. It is extremely user-friendly, and the follow-along videos are relaxing rather than stressful. My mum always says how nice the lady on the tutorials is too. It is rare to find a device that a 30-something and a 60-something both reach for every single morning, but the ZIIP has become a staple for both of us. The Low Energy Beauty Tool Being chronically ill, I value accessibility and “low energy” beauty. Some days, the thought of a complicated, multi-step skincare routine is just too much. The ZIIP Halo is perfect for this because it is mega low energy. You do not even need to connect it to the app every time you use it. You can just turn it on and use the “The Lift” treatment, which is pre-set on the device. It is compact, takes up zero room on the vanity, and is very comfortable to hold. One honest tip: it can get a bit slippery if you use a lot of gel, so I usually keep a dry towel nearby to keep my grip firm. However, the treatment itself is painless. As long as you have used the right amount of conductive gel, you just feel a light, pleasant tingle rather than a “zap.” Long Term Results: My 12-Month Verdict I tend to do one or two treatments every time I use it. I rarely skip a day because I genuinely enjoy the process and how it makes my skin feel. My absolute favourites are the 10-minute Collagen Boost and the 6-minute Lymphatic Drainage. I am constantly testing out different skincare products, which means my skin can be prone to breakouts and sensitivity. Even when I am struggling with spots, the ZIIP gives me an overall glow. I personally prefer to wash the Electric Complex gel off as soon as I am done, and then I go in with other skincare. ZIIP Halo vs. ZIIP Halo 2.0: What has changed? Since I have the original ZIIP Halo and the 2.0 has recently been released, you might be wondering which one to get. The internal technology in the 2.0 has been re-engineered for 63% greater accuracy, meaning the currents are even more precise. Feature Original ZIIP Halo ZIIP Halo 2.0 Charging Port Open Port New Silicone Plug (stops gel getting in!) Gels Included Electric Complex (50ml) 3 Luxury Mini Gels (Golden, Silver, Crystal) Accuracy Industry Leading 63% More Precise Accessories Standard New Luxury Travel Pouch If you already have the original, it is still a powerhouse. But if you are buying for the first time, I would highly recommend using the ZIIP Halo discount code GEORGINAZIIP to get the 2.0. That silicone plug is a small but genius design change that helps keep the device clean and functioning perfectly. ZIIP Halo FAQ: Everything You Need to Know Is the ZIIP Halo painful? Not at all. If you feel a “snap” or a sting, it simply means you need to apply more conductive gel. When used correctly, it is a very relaxing, tingly sensation. Can I use the ZIIP Halo with dental implants or braces? Yes! Unlike some older microcurrent devices, the ZIIP is safe to use with dental implants and braces, though you may feel a slightly stronger tingle in those areas. How often should I use it? For the best results, ZIIP recommends using the device 3 to 5 times a week. However, because I love the lymphatic drainage so much, I use mine almost daily. Do I have to use the app? No. The ZIIP Halo has a built-in 4-minute treatment called “The Lift.” You can just turn the device on and go. However, the app is free and gives you access to targeted treatments for eyes, jowls, and even acne. Which gel should I use? If you have sensitive skin, the Silver Gel is fantastic. If you want a more luxurious, anti-ageing boost, the Golden Gel is the one. For everyday use, I stick […]

The Series 2 is a significant technological leap from the original anti-blemish mask. It is a flexible, medical-grade silicone mask designed to provide full-face coverage for those of us prone to congestion, oiliness, and inflammation. Unlike many budget options found on Amazon, the CurrentBody LED Blue Light Therapy Mask uses two highly precise, clinically proven wavelengths that work in synergy: The Science: Why 415nm and 633nm Matter When researching for this CurrentBody LED Blue Light Therapy Mask review, I discovered that wavelength precision is everything. If a mask is even slightly off (e.g., 420nm instead of 415nm), it won’t effectively kill the bacteria. This is where the Veritace® guarantee comes in. CurrentBody is the first brand to test every single LED bulb in every device to ensure maximum clinical efficacy. What’s New in the Series 2 CurrentBody LED Masks? (The Upgrades) CurrentBody has completely overhauled the hardware and design of their LED masks, based on user feedback. 1. Integrated Chin Strap Hormonal acne loves the jawline and chin. The new integrated chin strap ensures the mask wraps underneath the face, providing direct LED contact to the areas most prone to “maskne” and cystic breakouts. 2. Enhanced Multi-Strap System The original mask sometimes felt like it was slipping. The Series 2 features an extra head strap for a “locked-in” fit. This ensures the 220 LEDs stay at the optimal distance from your skin for the entire 10-minute session. 3. Portable Controller with Belt Clip You no longer have to sit perfectly still or balancing the controller somewhere. The Series 2 controller includes a belt clip, meaning you can do chores, fold laundry, or walk around while getting your treatment. I’ve even been in the garden in mine! 4. Veritace® Precision Technology Behind the quality of every device is a rigorous testing system. Every bulb is verified to ensure it emits the exact strength and wavelength proven to work in clinical trials. CurrentBody LED Blue Light Therapy Mask: What’s in the Box? When you invest £399.99, you expect a premium experience. The Series 2 comes beautifully packaged with everything you need: CurrentBody discount code GEORGINALED at checkout for your discount! My CurrentBody LED Blue Light Therapy Mask Routine I have very spot-prone skin that reacts to stress and hormonal changes. Before starting with the CurrentBody LED Blue Light Therapy Mask, my skin would constantly break out in new spots every other day and while it’s only been a week or two so far, I’m not having as many breakouts. My Routine: Early Impressions: After just 10 days, the most noticeable change is the reduction in inflammation. Usually, a spot will stay angry and red for a week; with the mask, the “lifecycle” of a blemish seems to be cut in half. How Does a CurrentBody LED Mask Compare to Professional Clinic Treatments? A single Blue Light therapy session at a London skin clinic can cost anywhere from £60 to £120. To see real results, you usually need 8–10 sessions. The CurrentBody LED Blue Light Therapy Mask essentially pays for itself within two months if you are someone who regularly seeks professional acne treatments. Who is the CurrentBody LED Blue Light Therapy Mask for? This mask is ideal for anyone suffering from: A Note on Skin Tone: As noted by the brand, Blue LED light can cause temporary hyperpigmentation on darker skin tones. If you have a deep skin tone, they recommend sticking to the CurrentBody Red Light Mask, which is safe and effective for all tones. Final Verdict: Is the CurrentBody LED Blue Light Therapy Mask Worth It? If you have struggled for years with spot-prone skin and haven’t found success with topical creams, the CurrentBody LED Blue Light Therapy Mask is a game-changer. It addresses the bacterial root cause of acne while simultaneously healing the skin with red light. It is a premium investment, but for the convenience of a portable, clinical-grade device that actually delivers on its promises, it is worth every penny. Ready to transform your skin? Shop the CurrentBody Series 2 Mask here and don’t forget to use CurrentBody discount code GEORGINALED at checkout for your discount! Follow My Progress I will be updating this post with high-resolution before and after photos as I hit the 4-week and 6-week marks. Bookmark this page to see the final results! Dyson Fans vs Portable Aircon Units: Which Actually Cools a Room? (2026 Guide)

Updated for February 2026 Over the years I’ve actually spent thousands on fans, including Dyson fans. As a disabled blogger living with chronic pain, a UK heatwave is not just uncomfortable for me, it is genuinely unmanageable. I have owned the Dyson Hot + Cool, various Dyson cooling fans, and eventually made the switch to a proper portable air conditioning unit. I am writing this to save you the money and the sweat I went through getting here. The short answer: if you want to actually cool a room down, you need a portable aircon unit with a hose that goes out of a window or door. Nothing else will do it. If you are searching for a Dyson air conditioner, or wondering whether Dyson fans actually cool the air, this post is going to save you a lot of money. CLICK HERE TO SEE MY TOP 2026 AIRCON PICKS ON AMAZON The 2026 Quick Verdict Dyson Fans: Brilliant for air purification and sleek design. They are not air conditioners. They do not lower room temperature. Air Coolers (Water/Ice): Often sold as “Dyson air coolers”, these are a waste of money in humid UK summers. Portable Aircon: The only thing that will actually drop your room from 28°C to 16°C. If you actually want to lower the temperature of a room, you need an aircon unit with a hose that goes out a window or door. Dyson fans? Lovely for the winter. Nice to look at. But in a heatwave? They’re not going to save you. The Myth of the Dyson Air Conditioner Every year, thousands of people search for a Dyson air conditioner or a Dyson air conditioning unit. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Dyson does not make a refrigerant air conditioner. When you see a Dyson cooling fan or Dyson ventilator, it is a high-tech air circulator. It uses “Air Multiplier” technology to create a smooth, powerful breeze. It feels amazing on your skin, but the thermometer on your wall will not change. Why I still recommend Dyson fans (for the right reasons): I use my Dyson Hot + Cool with HEPA filtration every day for my asthma. If you want a Dyson portable air conditioner for allergies or a light breeze while you sleep, it is worth it. But if you want to stop your bedroom from being a sauna, keep reading. Is There Such a Thing as a Dyson Air Conditioner? No, and this surprises a lot of people. Dyson does not make a refrigerant air conditioner and never has. Every year thousands of people search for a “Dyson air conditioner unit” or a “Dyson AC” and end up either confused by the product range or, worse, buying a Dyson fan expecting it to cool the room and being disappointed when it does not. Like I was! What Dyson makes are air multiplier fans and purifiers. Some have heating functions. Some have HEPA filtration. They are brilliant bits of kit for what they actually do. But none of them contain a compressor, none of them use refrigerant, and none of them will bring the temperature in your room down on a hot day. If you have seen a product described as a “Dyson air cooler,” that is usually a third-party seller mislabelling a Dyson fan to catch those search terms. It is not a thing Dyson makes or endorses. The only way to actually air condition a room is with a unit that has a compressor and a hose. Dyson does not make one. If that ever changes, I will update this post, but for now if you want cool air, you need to look elsewhere. Dyson Fans Do Dyson Fans Cool a Room? This is one of the most common questions people ask. Dyson fans look high-tech, they feel powerful, and they have features like air purification and heating. But even the Dyson Pure Cool, Dyson Hot + Cool, and Dyson Purifier Cool do not cool the room temperature. They move air. They can filter the air. Some models can heat a room in winter. But they do not bring the temperature down during summer heatwaves. That said, I still love my Dyson Hot + Cool with HEPA filtration. It’s great for allergy season, especially with asthma and hay fever in the household. I would recommend it for everything but actual cooling. Dyson Fan vs Air Conditioner: The 2026 Comparison Feature Dyson Cooling Fan Portable Aircon Unit Actually Cools Air No (Circulates) Yes (Refrigerates) Running Cost (2026) ~2p to 5p per hour ~25p to 35p per hour Setup Plug and Play Needs Window Hose Noise Level Very Quiet Moderate (White Noise) Best For Allergies / Year-round UK Heatwaves / Sleep Are Dyson fans worth it? For air purification and winter heating, yes. For a 30-degree August afternoon? No.In a rush? Click here to see my top aircon picks on Amazon Why “Air Coolers” and “Mist Fans” Fail You might see products marketed as a Dyson air cooler. These usually involve a water tank or ice. In the UK’s humid heat, adding more moisture to the air just makes the room feel “swampy” and sticky. I have tried them twice and regretted it both times. Unless you are standing 2 inches away from it, it will not work. SEE A LIST OF AIRCON UNITS AVAILABLE ON AMAZON RIGHT NOW! What Actually Works: Portable Aircon Units To actually lower the temperature, you need a unit with a compressor and a hose. I use the Princess 9K Air Conditioning Unit. True Cooling: It takes the heat out of the air and pumps it out of the window. Chronic Pain Relief: For my disability, being able to control the climate is a medical necessity. The Cat Factor: Since I have indoor cats, I place my unit on a sturdy box so the hose reaches a high window, keeping them safe while the room stays at a blissfully cold 16 degrees. PIP Phone Assessment 2026: The ‘Trick’ Questions and My Experience

Updated for February 2026 PIP Phone Assessments – based on my recent and past phone assessment experiences. Quick Read: PIP Assessment At A Glance Duration: Usually between 45 and 90 minutes, though complex cases can last over 2 hours. The Report: Call the DWP 3 days after your call to request your PA4 report. Do not wait for the decision letter. Decision Time: Most claimants are currently waiting 4 to 12 weeks for a decision after their assessment. The Golden Rule: Answer based on how you are the majority of the time (over 50% of days). Never answer base on a “good day.” Watch Out: Assessors use “random” questions about your phone and hobbies to gauge your physical and mental abilities. Do you have a PIP phone assessment coming up? Whether it is your first time or a renewal, I want to share what really happens. From the strange questions to practical tips, this guide is based on my own experiences and the feedback of thousands of readers. If you would like to know more about my health and disability background, you can read about my bile acid malabsorption journey here and my chronic illness story here, or find me on Instagram if you want to chat: @GeorginaGrogan_ What Is a PIP Phone Assessment? A PIP phone assessment is a consultation with a health professional to decide your eligibility for Personal Independence Payment. Since 2024/25, these have remained the most common way to be assessed, though the DWP has recently increased face-to-face appointments to 30% in some areas. For official information, please see: Citizens Advice – Personal Independence Payment. Will My PIP Assessment Be Face-to-Face or By Phone in 2026? This is one of the most common questions I get asked right now, and it is worth being upfront about it because things have changed. Until recently, 80% of assessments were carried out by phone or video. Face-to-face appointments had fallen to just 6% of all PIP assessments in 2024. That has now shifted significantly. From April 2026, the DWP is raising the proportion of face-to-face assessments to 30%. This means you are now more likely to be invited to attend in person than at any point since the pandemic. There is something important you should know about why this matters. The success rate for face-to-face assessments in 2024 was 44%, compared to 57% for telephone assessments. That is not a small difference when your financial support is on the line. Can you still request a PIP phone assessment? Yes, but you will need to make the case for it. If you have been invited to a face-to-face appointment but travelling is genuinely difficult due to your condition, you can ask your assessment provider to review the format. Your claim will be paused while they consider it. If your GP visits you at home, or the assessment centre is more than 90 minutes away by public transport, you may be offered a home visit instead. My advice: if you cannot travel due to your condition, say so clearly and specifically when you call. What worked for a lot of people was explaining exactly why attending in person was physically impossible, not just inconvenient. The more specific you are, the better. How To Request a Phone Assessment Instead of In-Person When the DWP (or providers like Capita/IAS) contacts you, let them know if you prefer a phone appointment. You may need to explain why it is more accessible. For my last renewal, I explained that travelling to a different city for an 8 am slot was physically impossible, and they switched it immediately. You can also: Request a 3-way call if you need someone to join remotely. Have someone physically with you for support and prompts. PIP Changes in 2026: What You Need to Know Before Your Assessment The PIP system is going through its biggest shake-up since it launched in 2013. If you have an assessment coming up, some of these changes affect you directly. The Timms Review The government is conducting the first full review of PIP since it was introduced, led by Disability Minister Sir Stephen Timms. It is being co-produced with disabled people and their organisations and is due to report in autumn 2026. It could change the assessment criteria, the descriptors and the points system entirely. In plain terms: the rules you are being assessed against right now may look very different by late 2026 or into 2027. Nothing has changed yet, but it is worth keeping an eye on. I will update this post as things develop. The Four-Point Rule – Paused, Not Scrapped The government proposed requiring claimants to score at least 4 points in a single daily living activity to qualify for the daily living component. This was removed from legislation in July 2025 following opposition from disabled people’s organisations and Labour backbenchers. It is currently on hold until after the Timms Review. This is good news for now, but “on hold” is not the same as gone. Disability Rights UK estimates that when the rule does eventually take effect, around 430,000 existing claimants could lose their daily living award. I will keep this updated. Longer Award Periods One genuinely positive change: new PIP awards now have a minimum review period of three years, rising to five years at the next review if your condition remains stable. For anyone who has been through the exhausting cycle of frequent reassessments, this is a real improvement. Success Rates Are Falling I want to be honest with you about this. Only 35% of new PIP claims received an award in the quarter ending January 2026, down sharply from 43% the year before. The system is getting harder to navigate, not easier. That is exactly why preparing thoroughly matters more now than it ever has. PIP Phone Assessment Trick Questions to Watch For Many people search for “PIP assessment trick questions” because the questions often feel irrelevant. These are not just “chatty” questions; they are used to […]
