From 6 PM straight to midnight, the venue buzzed with families, supporters, and soca lovers—Royalty Entertainment brought the vibes, Go2Fete brought the crowd, and the island brought the fire.

The atmosphere was bright, loud, and full of promise. Junior Soca Monarch isn’t just an event; it’s a training ground for tomorrow’s stars, a space where young performers learn to command a stage and carry forward the island’s musical heartbeat.

And this year, one young talent stood tallest.

Social media posts buzzed with excitement and confirmed that the new Junior Soca Monarch crowned last Friday was Zeal, scoring 245 points to secure the title. His performance stood out, earning judges' approval and crowd love alike. It was the kind of showing that signals a future artist stepping confidently into their lane.

Progress Park proved once again why it’s a cultural anchor: open air, community energy, and a stage that feels built for breakthrough moments. With Royalty Entertainment steering the vibes, the night became a celebration of youth, creativity, and Grenada’s unstoppable soca spirit.

Still, the old‑school WACK Chatbox crew never sleeps. They drop teasers, voice notes, and hot takes—and today, I’m responding to something my friend Gailos sent via WhatsApp.

Let’s Be Honest: Crop Over 2026 Music Is Disappointing

I’ve been digging through the Bajan Soca releases for Crop Over 2026… and honestly, it’s disappointing. The season deserves music that lifts the atmosphere, but this year’s output feels flat.

No wonder the biggest online mixes continue to be Trinidad-focused—the quality gap is real.

Blaqrose Supreme’s mixtape hits different; he really tried to add impact to the music with his DJ skills—it's one of the only drops this year that actually feels curated with intention. But I had to wait almost 22 minutes for a track that moved me.

But the DJ can only do so much; the music, after all, should hit the sweet spot with little effort. These songs just didn't do it for us.

The culture is strong. The music? Not so much this year.

We are here to salute a cultural icon, Paul "Bill" Trotman and feature a song played by WACK Radio personality Mr. Desmond. That song, "Do Something Good," can heal wounds and make this world a better place. So here goes... In 1986, Trinidad & Tobago gifted the Caribbean a musical gem: “Do Something Good” by Bill Trotman. Recorded at Coral Studios in Trinidad and pressed in Barbados, the track carries the unmistakable touch of arranger Leston Paul, whose musical brilliance shaped an entire era of soca and calypso. But at the heart of the song is Bill Trotman himself—a man whose voice, humor, and cultural presence left an imprint that will never fade. Two of his better-known songs are "Back to School" and "Rat Race," but for this post we focus on "Do Something Good."

Trinidad Bill, as he was fondly known, was more than an MC and comedic personality. He was a storyteller, a cultural messenger, and a performer whose work reflected the spirit of Trinidad & Tobago. This music video was the first of its kind for GRENADA. Previously, the sights and sounds of J'ouvert and jab jab were deemed too vulgar for mainstream music and acceptable society.

The Grenadian band M.O.S.S. International is highlighted as the vehicle that advanced an indigenous part of Grenada’s culture. They essentially created a musical sub-genre that has had a major impact on the Caribbean’s musical landscape and on our cultural history.

M.O.S.S.'s 1991 smash hit JAMBALASEE RULE marked the first time in Grenada’s history that the indigenous goat-skin drums, conch shells, and jab-chants of J'ouvert morning had made their way into a recording studio and onto a record. Thus marking the official birth of JAB MUSIC.
