										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences at Stony Brook University is accepting applications for a <strong>Marine Laboratory Technician</strong>.</p>
<p>The Marine Laboratory Technician will assist the manager of the Marine Sciences Center in the maintenance of the Center’s wet lab and teaching classrooms and laboratories.  The incumbent will also be responsible to serve as a naturalist for community outreach programs and serve as a deckhand aboard our research vessels. Incumbent must be available to work nights and weekends as needed. Successful candidates will be asked to take SCUBA classes, if not already certified.</p>
<p><b>Required Qualifications (as evidenced by attached resume):</b><br />
Bachelor’s Degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in marine science, environmental science, or closely related field. Two (2) years of experience working with aquatic life support systems. Experience with PVC plumbing. Knowledge of local fauna and flora. Experience with small vessel operation. Must have, keep and maintain the appropriate valid NYS Driver’s License; have a motor vehicle record which is free from major violations or a pattern of repeat violations.  <b>(***Out-of-State Applicants, see &#8220;Special Notes”).</b></p>
<p><b>Preferred Qualifications:</b><br />
Advanced Degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in marine science, environmental science, or closely related field. Experience as an educator (adolescent to adult). Experience as a naturalist. SCUBA certified.</p>
<p><b>Duties:</b></p>
<ul>
<li><b>Wet Lab:</b>
<ul>
<li>Assist the lab manager in the maintenance/repair of the seawater system.</li>
<li>Supervise researchers (faculty, graduate and undergraduate students, and outside users) in the proper operating procedures of the seawater system.</li>
<li>Assist researchers with proper animal husbandry to ensure they are IACUC compliance.</li>
<li>Provide support to all users of the wet lab users (i.e., experimental design, set-up/construction, field collection, transport).</li>
<li>Respond to off-hour facility-related emergencies when needed.</li>
</ul>
</li>
<li><b>Facilities:</b>
<ul>
<li>Coordinate with Center’s supervisor and facilities managers for maintenance, repairs and upkeep of the Marine Sciences Center.</li>
<li>Oversee faculty, staff, and student personnel utilizing the Marine Science Center.</li>
</ul>
</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li><b>Academic Programming:</b>
<ul>
<li>Prepare classrooms and lab facilities for class needs.</li>
<li> Arrange for routine maintenance and calibration of facility equipment including computing interfaced analytical instrumentation.</li>
</ul>
</li>
<li><b>Community Outreach:</b>
<ul>
<li>Interact with members of the public who visit the Marine Science Center. Conduct tours and teach educational programs for outside groups and special events.</li>
<li>Serve as a naturalist on our research vessels and land-based excursions.</li>
<li>Organize and lead special programs and activities for visiting researchers, students, dignitaries and organizations.</li>
<li>Represent SoMAS at public events as appropriate.</li>
</ul>
</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li><b>Vessel Operations:</b>
<ul>
<li>Serve as crew in the operation of SoMAS research vessels.  Be familiar with shipboard safety rules and procedures to ensure the safety of personnel.</li>
<li>Operate deck gear in the deployment and retrieval of sampling equipment.</li>
<li>Perform additional routine shipboard and shore-side duties as directed by the fleet manager.</li>
</ul>
</li>
<li>Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.</li>
</ul>
<p><b>Special Notes:</b><br />
This is a full time appointment. FLSA Nonexempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Evening and weekend work will be required at times.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Grants Coordinator will administratively support the <a href="https://you.stonybrook.edu/kareed/">Climate Extremes Modeling Group</a> under the direction of Principal Investigator, Dr. Kevin Reed, in the School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences (SoMAS). The incumbent will advance the research mission at SoMAS by facilitating grant transactions through university systems and resolving complex research grant transaction issues. This position requires a skilled professional accustomed to responding to time-sensitive matters and meeting deadlines.  Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail are critical traits for success in this role. Experience successfully working independently as well as part of a team with a collaborative approach to problem solving, with outstanding written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills are essential.</p>
<ul>
<li><b>Post-Award Grants Coordination: </b>Monitor grant expenditures and compliance with grant requirements. Disencumber outdated purchase orders/encumbrances, ensure recoverable costs have been charged, request IDC analyses, and maximize the use of unencumbered grants balances prior to grant close-out. Assist Principal Investigator with all administrative and financial grant transactions, liaise with Grants Management, Payroll, Travel, and Accounts Payable as needed to resolve administrative obstacles and/or discrepancies. Prepare all documentation associated personnel transactions (i.e. recruitment, hiring, reappointing, promotions, terminations, etc.), including coordinating necessary visa applications. Initiate No Cost Extensions (NCEs), budget modifications, award reporting, and other appropriate post-award actions.</li>
<li><b>Pre-Award Grants Coordination</b>: Contribute to the development of budget, justification and supplemental administrative documents for funding proposal. Liaise with Sponsored Programs and SoMAS Grants Manager as needed.</li>
<li><b>General Administrative Support: </b>Provide administrative support to ongoing projects.</li>

<p><b>Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):</b><br />
Bachelor’s Degree (foreign equivalent or higher) and two (2) years of full-time administrative and/or financial experience.  In lieu of a Bachelor’s Degree, an Associate’s Degree plus four (4) years additional full time administrative or financial experience or a combination of education and experience totaling six (6) years may be considered.  Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Excel and/or Google Sheets to manage and track account expenditures. Experience in researching and resolving budget and compliance issues.</p>
<p><b>Preferred Qualifications:</b><br />

<p>The PEP Natural Resource Program Manager will conduct activities associated with the <a href="http://www.peconicestuary.org/">Peconic Estuary Partnership (PEP)</a>, the National Estuary Program on the East End of Long Island . This role will be the main point of contact for the New York State’s activities as they relate to PEP, including habitat restoration priorities, fisheries and aquaculture, and wildlife. This position will require a high level of interaction with the public, local governments, and community groups. The incumbent will have a high level of technical skill related to natural resources, the ability to independently manage multiple priorities, and work effectively alongside a team. They will have exceptional record keeping and organizational skills.</p>
<p><b>The Program Manager’s responsibilities will include the following:</b><br />
<b>Natural Resource Program Management </b></p>
<ul>
<li>In consultation with the Executive Director, lead all natural resources programming and wildlife-related projects for the Peconic Estuary Partnership (PEP), such as fish passage, monitoring the Alewife populations, habitat restoration initiatives, Wildlife Monitoring Network, and other Long Island and regionally based habitat and wildlife projects.</li>
<li>Co-Chair the Natural Resource Sub-Committee and other existing and future workgroups.</li>
<li>Prepare and review documents consisting of complex scientific and technical information.</li>
<li> Implement the PEP Habitat Restoration Plan by evaluating ecological conditions and data to make appropriate recommendations.</li>
<li>Track Comprehensive Conservation Management Plan (CCMP) implementation.</li>
</ul>
<p><b>New York State Coordination</b></p>
<ul>
<li>Coordinate habitat projects with NYS DEC occurring within the watershed of the Peconic Estuary and other NYS DEC activities concerning PEP.  This includes satisfying EPA National Estuary Program Grant requirements, undertaking other activities related to PEP (ex: providing technical input on proposals submitted various NYSDEC grant programs), and collaborating with other estuary program staff and NYSDEC Division of Marine Resources supervisors.</li>
<li>Interact heavily with the public, local governments, and community groups.</li>
<li>Represent PEP at public meetings and Town Board meetings.</li>
<li> Develop partnerships to protect and restore Peconic Estuary habitats and water quality.</li>
</ul>
<p><b>Administrative Support </b></p>
<ul>
<li>Perform administrative functions related to the expenditure of public resources.</li>
<li>Manage databases and use GIS information for tracking of the PEP Comprehensive Conservation Management Plan.</li>
<li>Submit quarterly, monthly, and weekly reports.</li>
<li>Provide support for committee meetings by assisting in the development of the agenda, scheduling meetings, and meeting minutes.</li>
</ul>
<p><b>Other Duties </b>as assigned.</p>
<p><b>Required Qualifications (as evidenced by attached resume):</b><br />
Bachelor’s Degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Two (2) years directly related project management experience. Knowledge of habitat restoration approaches or wildlife biology/ecology or habit management. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. Experience with data management.</p>
<p><b>Preferred Qualifications:</b><br />
Master’s Degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in environmental science, biology, ecology, marine sciences, oceanography, environmental management, environmental education/outreach, or a related field. Three (3) or more years of directly related project management experience. Experience leading workgroups with a variety of stakeholders (e.g., federal, state, local, non-governmental, the public, etc.). Experience writing grants and budget development. Experience managing expenditures. Experience using Arc, GIS, and/or other related software.</p>

<p><b>Brief Description of Duties:</b><br />
The Program Support Specialist will report to the Executive Director of the Peconic Estuary Partnership (PEP), and will serve in a multi-faceted role as an integral part of the PEP team.  The incumbent will provide administrative support for all PEP program initiates and staff members, as well as assist with technical data analysis and report preparation, and all PEP communications efforts. The successful incumbent will have excellent verbal and written communication skills and have the ability to work well as part of a team. Attention to detail and the ability to work simultaneously on multiple projects successfully is essential. Responsibilities of the PEP Program Support Specialist will include:</p>
<p><b>Duties:</b><br />
<b>Administrative Support</b></p>
<ul>
<li>Provide administrative support to ongoing projects related to Suffolk County water quality, habitat projects in the Peconic Estuary, and others.</li>
<li>Draft and send correspondence to internal and external partners to follow up on pending projects, contracts, etc. as directed by the PEP team.</li>
<li>Schedule and coordinate meetings and other appointments; draft and distribute agendas and meeting minutes.</li>
<li>Submit and track orders through The University’s procurement system, Wolfmart. Assist personnel with submitting reimbursement requests.</li>
</ul>
<p><b>Technical</b></p>
<ul>
<li>Review and provide preliminary commentary on technical reports (e.g. climate change, ocean acidification, and regional climate models).</li>
<li>Track progress and prepare reports and graphs regarding program accomplishments and activities.</li>
<li>Become familiar with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) policies and requirements.</li>
</ul>
<p><b>Communications</b></p>
<ul>
<li>Assist with social media campaigns and public outreach efforts.</li>
<li>Interpret scientific and technical data for public dissemination</li>
<li>Update website and upload required public documents in consultation with PEP team.</li>
<li>Other duties as assigned.</li>
</ul>
<p><b>Required Qualifications (as evidenced by attached resume):</b><i>  </i><br />
Bachelor’s Degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in, biology, ecology, marine science, environmental policy, or related field. One (1) or more years of related technical and/or administrative experience, such as data collection, analysis, dissemination for public policy making (lab or field based), and/or interpretation of technical data for public and community-based publications. Equivalent experience as part of an advanced degree program may be substituted for one (1) year of experience.</p>
<p><b>Preferred Qualifications:</b><i> </i><br />
Master’s Degree in, biology, ecology, marine science, environmental policy, or related field. Two (2) or more years of related technical and/or administrative experience, such as data collection, analysis, and/or dissemination for public policy making (this can be lab or field based), also to include the interpretation of technical data for public and community-based publications. Experience in managing projects in the environmental, municipal, or policy related fields. Experience managing budgets. Experience with an online procurement system. Experience with ArcGIS. Experience with WordPress. Experience coordinating community groups with a focus on environmental planning, climate change, and/or advocacy.</p>

<p><b>Brief Description of Duties:</b><br />
The Program Manager will conduct activities associated with the Peconic Estuary Partnership (PEP) and will be the main point of contact for Suffolk County&#8217;s programs as they relate to PEP. Will develop an understanding of PEP and Suffolk County, organizations, and policies, and be able to work effectively with state, county, and federal stakeholders at all levels. The incumbent will have a high level of technical skill related to water sciences and must demonstrate the ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks, and be able to work independently, as well as part of a team. They will have exceptional record keeping and organization skills.</p>
<p><b>The Program Manager&#8217;s responsibilities will include the following:</b><br />
<b>Water Quality Programs Management</b></p>
<ul>
<li>Coordinate and report on the Conservation Comprehensive Management Plan (CCMP) and other projects associated with water quality, to include land acquisitions for aquifer protection, rain garden and nature-based stormwater management projects, public complaints regarding water quality issues in the Peconic Estuary and its watershed.</li>
<li>Chair the Water Quality Monitoring Collaborative.</li>
<li>Represent PEP at conferences and meetings; Serve as the voice of PEP with all water quality related reporting.</li>
<li>Lead data management on annual Water Quality Report R-based data analysis, and report production and dissemination.</li>
</ul>
<p><b>Suffolk County Coordination</b></p>
<ul>
<li>Manages all PEP projects and programs that use the PEP EPA Funds awarded to Suffolk County, including the National Atmospheric Deposition Program and Submerged Aquatic Vegetation annual monitoring.</li>
<li>Manages and facilitates all necessary Suffolk County parties for all projects whose funds are used to match the PEP EPA NEP federal award.</li>

<li>Develop an annual communication strategy, identifying PEP initiatives and successes to serve as primary storytelling points to communicate to East End communities, particularly focusing on the inclusion of historically marginalized communities.</li>
<li>Cultivate strategic relationships with a broad range of media contacts on a local, state, and regional level.</li>
<li>Document metrics and report on activities.</li>
<li>Develop resources and programming for educators and students.</li>

<p><strong>Communications</strong></p>

<li>Write, edit, and distribute press releases, newsletters, fact sheets, and other publications.</li>
<li>Assist in the development of educational signage and other materials.</li>

<li>Create content, coordinate and update posts, utilizing photos and other visuals.</li>

<li>Responsible for physical setup of events to include tables, chairs, and other relevant materials.</li>
<li>Provide support to events staff for digital and creative assets, implementation, and monitoring.</li>
<li>Supervise volunteers, interns, and temporary staff.</li>

The Postdoctoral Associate will assist in the analysis of large scale genomics sequences (RNASeq, RADSeq) to answer questions pertaining to the molecular mechanisms associated with the resilience of bivalve mollusks to pathogenic and environmental stress.  The successful candidate will show evidence of creativity and high productivity.</p>
<p>Postdoctoral Associate duties will include:</p>
<ul>
<li>Within the predetermined research scope, carry out research that allows the identification of genetic features and molecular pathways associated with bivalve resilience and response to environmental (e.g. ocean acidification, high temperature, low dissolved oxygen) and pathogenic stress. This includes planning and study design, wet lab experimentation with mollusks, nucleic acid extraction, high-throughput sequencing and data analysis using modern bioinformatics tools.</li>
<li>Contribute to the training of students and interns.</li>
<li>Work with Principal Investigator to build and submit research proposals for external funding agencies and participate in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals. Prepare activity and progress reports to funding agencies.</li>
<li>Other duties as assigned.</li>

Doctoral Degree or foreign equivalent degree in biological sciences or related field in hand by May 31, 2022.</p>
<p><b>Preferred Qualifications:  </b><br />
Doctoral Degree (or foreign equivalent) in an area related to genomics. Experience in Marine Genomics and/or Shellfish genomics. Experience with high performance computing. Extensive training in Genomics and Bioinformatics.</p>
<p><b><u>Senior Postdoctoral Associate</u></b></p>
<p><b>Brief Description of Duties:</b><br />
The Senior Postdoctoral Associate will conduct research in the School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences under the supervision of Principal Investigator, Dr. Bassem Allam in SoMAS’s <a href="http://you.stonybrook.edu/madl/">Marine Animal Disease Laboratory (MADL)</a>, working on highly complex, and technically broad challenges and problems such as the analysis of large scale genomics sequences (RNASeq, RADSeq, Genomes assembly and annotation) to answer questions pertaining to the molecular mechanisms associated with the resilience of bivalve mollusks to pathogenic and environmental stress.  The successful candidate will show evidence of creativity and high productivity.</p>
<p>Senior Postdoctoral Associate duties will include:</p>
<ul>

<li>Responsible for training students and interns in the MADL.</li>

<li>Provide expert consultation to SoMAS colleagues and students, and demonstration of proper execution and interpretation of novel genomics methods and techniques.</li>
<li>Other duties as assigned</li>

Doctoral Degree or foreign equivalent degree in biological sciences or related field in hand by May 31, 2021. Three (3) years of full-time related research experience.</p>
<p><b>Preferred Qualifications:</b><br />
Doctoral Degree (or foreign equivalent) in an area related to genomics. Experience in Marine Genomics and/or Shellfish genomics. Extensive training in Genomics and Bioinformatics. Mastery of modern bioinformatics tools. Experience with high performance computing.</p>
<p><b>Special Notes:</b><br />
This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption</p>
