It's been a while. For all two people who read this blog (and who already know the updates I'm about to disclose) here's what's been going on.

A lot of stuff has happened and our plans have changed a little.

The last few months have consisted of finishing up the spring semester of school, work hard on Christian's senior thesis film project and Ashlyn and I busting our ass on revisions of SNAP.

We now have a solid third draft of the script completed. Ashlyn is out in LA trying to correct my formatting fuck ups, which will help us work towards the fourth draft.

The plan to film this summer has been pushed back. In order to have enough time to devote to Christian's thesis film, and in order to have enough prep time for SNAP we have decided to push our production date to November/December.

So, revised plan: We are NOW planning to shoot pretty much the entirety of the film over our upcoming winter break (approx. November 2010-February 2011). This is an estimated time frame, but this is what we are looking at in order to give enough time to film everything. In order to work within that time frame we want to try and work out any possible kinks in the script over the summer. In July and August we would like to start gathering the cast and crew. By September we would like to have cast and crew locked down and work on pre-production and rehearsing over the duration of the fall (up till shooting).

Sounds fun, right?

Christian and I are working on our podcast, which is moving very slowly, but we should have some new episodes up in the next couple of weeks.

In the mean time, everybody (yes, all two of you) should go check out Love & Tambourines. My absolutely favorite film of Austin Film Festival.

That's all I got.

Just a quick heads up that my brother Christian, good friend Terrence 'Ti Jay' Eveline and I have started a podcast.

We're still working out the kinks of it all, but we will be talking about and reviewing movies and music as well talking about production of SNAP as we get closer to the start date.

And around 01:00 early this morning, after a good nap and a couple of beers the finishing touches were put on the first draft of SNAP (So Not A Playa).

Now, I'm sure that there will be many changes to the script in the coming weeks and months, but now there is at least a something tangible that we can look to, show others and find out where we are going exactly with this project.

Next step is to start prepping the crew (who... have yet to really completely commit to the project), cast the two leads, Miles & Juliet and start working on revisions.

One step closer my friends.

My name is Eric Alan Rousseau and this summer I, with the help of what will hopefully be a dedicated cast and crew, will attempt to make my first feature film.

I've decided to start this blog to coincide with the process of making a movie. Since this is my first feature film, I felt a blog might be a good way to vent any frustration or the few moments of joy I may find during these next few months.

I know that many filmmakers have turned to online gadgets like Twitter when stepping into the film making process, but I feel it's a bit too impersonal, especially right now. Maybe down the road, when we are actually shooting I can finally utilize tweets and all that lovely shit, but for now I'm blogging.

So I guess I will share a little bit about me. I'm a fourth year student at the University of Texas at Austin majoring in Rhetoric and Writing. Since I was a kid I had an interest in both writing and making movies, but I kind of got sidetracked for a while and really didn't rediscover the film world till my last couple years of high school. As of right now I do not have an impressive list of resume films that showcase any talent that I may have way down deep inside me. Instead I have a few short films that I shot because it was just something fun to do.

And that really is what this project and film itself is all about. If you don't have fun making films, then you need to leave and go do something. I think that filmmaking is one of the most amazing professions. You get to live out childhood fantasies and do things most people only dream of. I've been wanting-- no, dreaming of making a feature for a couple of years now, but the story never came along-- until now.

The story is called So Not A Playa and while it may sound like the new Tyler Perry flick, it's anything but. We are currently in the process of finishing the screenplay and then within the next few months we will move to "polishing" the script as we begin casting, rehearsing and eventually shooting the film. Needless to say it's a very exciting time.

I'm going to go ahead and note/introduce people that will most likely pop up along the way. First off, my amazing writing partner Ashlyn Fielder, who will most likely also be contributing to this blog; my brother, Christian Rousseau, who is currently lined up to produce; two of my best friends, Joe 'Cruza' Cruz and David Selig, who, along with Christian, will produce this flick and most likely be my go to men; and, of course, my unbelievably cool, way too supportive girlfriend, Caitlyn Perdue. I'm sure that other names will pop up along the way because I know how many people it takes to make a movie and I can tell you all right now that I will be forever grateful to every person who spends a second on this film. I will introduce all the other amazing people who will be involved in this project a little down the road.

Well that's it. I've exhausted this first blog post. I will attempt to keep things shorter, quicker and more precise as we continue on this journey, but you know how these intro things can go.

Thanks.
