In the meantime, here’s some more details about the show:

In Jeff Turton's words...

"I have spent 35 years programming Jazz on Boston radio stations. Starting in the late 70’s at public radio station WBUR and at Emerson College at WERS. I did fill-in work at WGBH for a couple of decades for people like Eric Jackson and Ron Della Chiesa and in 1983, along with a bunch of radio professionals with big dreams, we got Boston’s first Alternative Rock station off the ground (though we didn’t really know what we were creating in the beginning because there was not an alternative format at the time) . He programmed Jazz on Sunday’s for 8 hours each week for more than 27 years. The program was very successful because of the hybrid approach we took to the programming of the music.

I have always thought that music thrived at the Crossroads, where many influences converge and develop and then move off on their own to provide their own perspectives. The Jazz Brunch was the only show on Boston radio that actively brought the influences from Latin America, the Caribbean and Africa into the music mix and drawing their parallels to Jazz. Jazz Crossroads will also journey to New Orleans during the last hour.

New Orleans is truly the crossroads for music in this country. It has an incredibly unique culture with influences from Africa and the Caribbean and the beginnings of Jazz at it’s heart. I have spent the last 20 years since Katrina deeply involved in learning about that music and culture and am hoping it adds a little spice the Jazz Crossroads mix.

I am a recording engineer when not wearing my programming hat. I have spent much of that career in recording studios in the 80’s and then in newsrooms across the public radio system providing production help and also working with shows providing content for public radio. I have also spent many years in the TV and Sports production world as both an A1 and A2 engineer. These were my Crossroads and I like to think they have all added to my individual approach to music programming."

Feel free to get in touch with Jeff via e-mail to let him know your thoughts about his show or even if you just fancy a shout out! jeff@soulandjazz.com.

In the meantime, here’s some more details about the show:

Ken Irwin joins the team at SoulandJazz.com to deliver a new two-hour weekly show, Jazz Outpost, featuring what’s happening in the world of creative improvised music today, whilst looking back at the great heritage of Jazz and African American music across nine decades.

With Yusef Lateef as his faculty sponsor, Ken Irwin earned his degree in “Ethnomusicology of African-American Music” at UMass in Amherst 2002, and has been an active broadcaster and announcer since 1975. He is happiest in his studio producing great programming and listening to some outstanding music, surrounded by thousands of his CD’s and LP’s. We’re delighted he’s on board.

Stereo, not stereotypical.

In the meantime, here’s some more details about the show:

Lunar Soul, by way of an introduction to my new radio home: SoulandJazz.com.

“In our last episode we were clearly feeling the funk... and now de ting continues”

The lyrics of a track by the stellar 70’s / 80’s disco funk band Kleeer, which I used as a jingle on my first ever radio show on the BBC back in the day. It feels fitting to revive that line, as I return to radio, after my delightful three decades plus at the Beeb.

‘Do something you love - and it won’t feel like work’, pretty much sums up my gratitude at being able to share select sounds and songs from now and then that move me lyrically, spiritually, emotionally and groove-a-licious-ally. NB, I do know it’s not a real word by the way, but it’s used deliberately to signpost my desire to have fun doing this, while being super serious about the standard of selections that I signpost to you on this wonderful platform, which I’m very pleased to call my new radio reside.

“Music is my life and the world is a dancefloor”… Elements of Life, 2023

Expect Lunar Soul episode 2 - musical meanderings embracing mesmerising Brit-Funk goodness from the likes of Absolute, Freeez, & Incognito… Brazilian Bossa Nova–ness… scintillating Salsa/Latin Jazz sweetness from the Latin American global diaspora via Sunlightsquare… exciting new era Afrobeats like show opener Asake, influenced by original Afrobeat dons like Fela Kuti & Tony Allen… nestling alongside longtime household names like Sade, Beverly Knight, Omar & Lemar… soulful house heavyweight dons such as MAW remixes like Sunkids - the house track Aretha Franklin should’ve been blessed with… Neo Soul / RnB kings like Jon B & Lynden David Hall through to disco delights from Shalamar, Cheryl Lynn & the total boogie opus dope us T - Connection… to the retro ‘groovy get-down goodness’ of my early pirate radio show days on Globe FM with DC ‘Connoisseur Cuts’… to the ‘Sassy Soul, Juicy Jazz, Flamboyant Funk, tinged with Rare Groove Pizazz mantra of my 15 year Saturday night BBC slot, presenting ‘A Touch Of Soul’. Total, that was then, to this is now–ness. Lunar Soul, lets go, baby!

In the meantime, here’s some more details about the show:

The Constellations Radio Show is hosted by <a href="https://bsky.app/profile/willmcgiven.bsky.social"style="color: #ff9900;">Will McGiven direct from Derby here in the UK. After 12 years of playing at his own events, many others across the UK and Europe, and guest spots on BBC Radio, Will decided to go on a completely new journey with The Constellations Radio Show.

Will had been an avid music collector across all genres for many years, in fact it was the massive mid 90’s UK drum and bass scene that made him want to start mixing different sounds, but he found he had to make a natural progression to producing radio shows that were going to offer listeners something completely different to anything else, anywhere in the world. So, about six years ago, along with his catalogue of 130,000 tracks, Brian Hurst gave him the opportunity to host a show right here at SoulandJazz.com

Six years down the line and Will’s shows are critically acclaimed by many musicians, producers and listeners across the world. His shows are for the true deep music connoisseur where you may find experimental music blended it to Jazz, world music into soulful hip hop, drum and bass into folk... in fact, Will aims to not just introduce new music to people, but to introduce them to new genres as well, keeping it completely original to any other show. All the shows are curated completely off the cuff in one, one-hour live show with no edits.

Through his SoulandJazz.com shows Will has gained a great reputation on the improv/Free Jazz scene in the UK. This has led him to gig and collaborate with some of the Uk’s finest musicians and producers such as Corey Mwamba, Martin Archer, Walt Shaw, Laura Cole, Charlotte Keefe, Martin Pyne, Nick Robinson, Victoria Bourne, Chris Harper, Michael Somerset, Lyn Hodnett and George Grignon. You can also find some great mixes curated by Will exclusively for the Discus Music label (In his opinion, the greatest and most exciting label in the world) over on Bandcamp.

Feel free to get in touch with Will via e-mail to let him know your thoughts about his show or even if you just fancy a shout out! will@soulandjazz.com or follow him via <a href="https://bsky.app/profile/willmcgiven.bsky.social"style="color: #ff9900;">Bluesky, <a href="https://www.instagram.com/will_mcgiven_soulandjazz_radio/"style="color: #ff9900;">Instagram or The Constellations Radio Show & Friends page via <a href="https://www.facebook.com/groups/2705941869494816"style="color: #ff9900;">Facebook .

His shows are for the true deep music connoisseur where you may find experimental music blended it to Jazz, world music into soulful hip hop, drum and bass into folk… in fact, Will aims to not just introduce new music to people, but to introduce them to new genres as well, keeping it completely original to any other show.

In Jeff Turton’s words…

“I have spent 35 years programming Jazz on Boston radio stations.

These were my Crossroads and I like to think they have all added to my individual approach to music programming.”

Feel free to get in touch with Jeff via e-mail to let him know your thoughts about his show or even if you just fancy a shout out! jeff@soulandjazz.com.

In the meantime, here’s some more details about the show:

An introduction from the man called Mike Chadwick...

"I've been listening to Jazz Rock/fusion, discovering, and bringing artists to people's attention for over 45 years, working for Virgin Records, Decoy Records (specialist store based in Manchester), broadcasting on Jazz FM and for many years, exclusively across SoulandJazz.com.

My desire to create a show around this genre has become all-encompassing so now is the time that I dedicate my passion for this ever- evolving genre and show you just what's been on my mind.
