Danish producer Hedo Hydr8 arrives on Grid for the label's 20th release with a colorful and daring EP. BBB is a track straight out of the 2010s, when post-dubstep and grime were booming. It features rapper Killa P, a discreet grime legend who has worked with some of the genre's most iconic producers. BBB is raw and uncompromising, yet irresistibly catchy and danceable. This unusual track is also available in an Alternative Mix, with additional rhythmic elements to make it more rolling and accentuate its club vibe, whereas the original mix was more broken. In line with bass scene releases, Hedo Hydr8 also made a VIP version of the track, darker, more strident, and deeper, which fans of the genre are sure to choose! The EP closes with two remixes: the first by DJ Spit & Matthis Ruffing is dembow-oriented, featuring funny bouncy bass lines. After a few beatless numbers at the start, I firmly rooted myself at 95 BPM for the remainder of the set and moved up and down the gears, enjoying the flexibility that this kind of tempo gives, with some tunes feeling slow and others feeling fast. "How could we start 2026 better than with a stunning 6 track EP including original work and remixes by 3 amazing artists originating from 3 continents? We are super happy to have Colombian artist Retter debut on W133 and present his „Flight to La Isla Del Encanto“ EP. The 4 original tracks are accompanied by remixes from Italian producer Endrew and NYC’s Martini. The record starts off with „Terq Brown“, a mellow entry into the music, built from ambient structures and repeating synth loops that were recorded again and again with newly incoming percs and FX. A2 then goes into „Sol, Invierno Anestesiado“. A trippy half-stepper with metal pipe sounds which multiple times leaves you wondering where in the beat you are. On the flip side tribally banging Identificacción rumbles in. Pure energy with highly identifiable „identificación“ vocals. The last original by Retter is on B2; „Mand Canderi“. A tension-building stomper perfect for a transition between bass and techno. Last track on the vinyl is Martini’s remix of Mand Canderi. Returning to W133 after multiple releases she brings back her sci-fi sound and tripped out energy. As a digital bonus track we are super happy to welcome long-term friend of both Retter and the label, Endrew, to W133. The EP opens with Brain Damage, a mind-bending acid-influenced track, with swirling sounds that twist and weave in unexpected directions. Their Dubbelsyn EP leaves the calm waters of downtempo and heads into a faster, more club oriented space. Snoqualmie is one of the more pacey tracks on the ep. W133008, a split EP shared by label newcomer Insomniast and his friend Monibi, who returns for her second appearance, will warm up your cozy evenings or fuel sweaty club nights. This record truly offers a bit of everything. The A-side, by Insomniast, kicks off with "Cut the Chord," a playful, house-inspired dancefloor weapon sure to light up many dancers' hearts. Following that is "Fooling Him," a break-heavy, darker rumbler packed with high energy. The third and final track on the A-side is "Istanbul," a melancholic, bassy dreamer featuring a Middle Eastern flute. In May, longtime Vief collaborator halle o’malley got in touch with an idea. She’d come across the Instagram of a 17-year old Palestinian musician called Samih, who’s life has been torn apart as a result of Israel's recent onslaught on the Gaza strip. Their home destroyed, Samih and his family were forced to flee to a refugee camp in Rafah. During their displacement, Samih has gone viral posting videos of himself singing and playing a borrowed oud. Having spoken to Samih and received his blessing, Halle planned to sample a video of his and donate the proceeds from the sales of that track to a GoFundMe set up for him and his family. Halle approached the label with the idea of scaling this project up by inviting other producers to sample Samih themselves or provide original tracks of their own. Madhoun now stands as a compilation containing four productions sampling Samih, an interlude, and nine other dance tracks generously donated by producers from across the world. Emmer & Einkorn are a duo operating in the ambient dub techno department: with previous releases with their solo aliases Human Resources & Mallard respectively on popular underground dance music labels Devil’s Work (Idle Hands) and Rhythm Section INTL, not to mention a prior EP on Esker Tapes back in 2020. Biodiversity’s second release builds off the first with a deep and rewarding LP from these enigmatic producers. In those 4 years since their s/t (ESKER03) tape, the ambient dub aesthetic has built underground acclaim off the relative streaming success of acts like Purelink, Gi Gi and Cousin - releasing often on tape focussed labels existing within the Bandcamp ecosphere. I thought for a long time about what I wanted to do for the mix. Lately, I haven't been able to spend much time on music, which bothered me. However, this mix rekindled my love for music. The reason was that I kept confining myself within a frame, saying, "No, it won't work like this, it won't work like that," and it wore me out. In this set, I played whatever sounded good to my ears recently. There's almost a 40 bpm difference between the beginning and the end of the set. I don't know how to describe the music style within it. I guess I can only say: "There's not much electro." It just felt good and I did it.

To bring back the sound from times when techno was a form of almost a rebellion, played in dark basements and warehouses - with poor lighting and with people wearing plain comfortable clothes. It’s again this idea of a party where the DJ is invisible, and the only thing they do is make people forget about the reality." Bio: ona:v is a Polish-born DJ, producer and promoter with an ear for textural techno and dark electro. A scientist by day and a DJ by night, the Edinburgh-based artist is an integral figure in her locale, both as a DJ and through event curation. Having built an extensive track collection for several years, ona:v debuted on Edinburgh’s club circuit in 2019, with bookings across the UK making up her diary since. On home turf, ona:v plays regular gigs in Scotland’s biggest venues, having supported Ben Klock, SLAM, Fjaak, Anne, Isabel Soto, Clouds, EKATA and many others. Outside of Scotland, she closed for Clouds and Randomer at The Cause, played at London’s Risen and Necropolis Festivals and in Berlin’s Mensch-Meier and About Blank. 2022 saw her Polish debut, and in 2021/22 she streamed from Berlin’s HÖR Radio. 'Morphers' is a rattling 3 tunes split that was forged between French producer Flore and San Francisco’s Only Now. The release represents the unwritten language shared between both friends over the past 7 years, with their affinity for propulsive percussion workouts and livewire bass music. After releasing on the POLAAR label for years, Only Now and Flore finally met in person for a collab long awaited. “Collaborating with someone on the production side is not something I’m used to “- says Flore. “It is like a non-verbal communication and its interplay of perspectives. But I think that Kush and I share a same sonic language and this new experience pushed us to embrace the unpredictability and subjectivity inherent in this new creative process.” The story began in Paris when Flore invited Only Now to come play at her POLAAR night at la Station. Ópalo is the alias of DJ/Producer Alejandro Romero and was created to explore down- tempo beats and ambient drifts. Focus points of the project touch mysticism and spirituality while the music is created to leave the listener questioning its intentions. As the focus drifts from why it was made to how you’re feeling, clarity begins to shine through. The smooth, gentle, warm and deep sounds put the mind at ease, allowing the listener to find answers. Sundial is a five track album created in Quito, Ecuador earlier this year. The album was created with a Yamaha MX49, a Korg Electribe and some effects from Arturia like the Buchla Easel, Synthi V and the Mini V. It also features collaborations from two Ecuadorian musicians, Pájaro de Rodillas and Luis García Montufar, who played a Fender Stratocaster and a quena respectively (quena is a traditional flute from the Andes commonly made from wood). “Digresiones”, from the EP, keeps the famous Ecuadorian painter Luigi Stornaiolo in mind as he loses the ability to paint with one hand but his story never gets dark. "One of the things that makes our music personal and autobiographical is within our sonic explorations back to the sources of the music that has deeply informed our lives as musicians. This mixtape completely embodies that approach, both in the RnB, Hip Hop and old school house sounds we grew up with, but also in the recording process; tracking directly from our MPC 1000 into the original Tascam 4-track cassette recorder our dad bought us in high school when we first showed interest in making music. Even though these tracks may feel more like meandering ideas than fully fleshed out songs, our musical journey all seems to come back full circle on this one. Conceptually, this is us channeling DJ Screw if he added his signature mix style to a Larry Heard or Janet recording. Or if we stumbled upon an old Aaliyah cassette that had completely warped and melted under the heat of the sun. This is us attempting to capture that feeling of getting stoned for the first time and your soundtrack is ESG, Tommy Wright III, Nate Dogg or Sandy B. Stepping up for MANT004 is the one and only Ian DPM. This EP continues an impressive string of releases for him, including on his own imprints Scuffed Recordings and Definite Party Material, all exploring the edges of club music with tunes belonging slap bang in the middle of the dancefloor. Proceedings start with an evening service, except the gospel choir have forgotten the keys to the church and instead take themselves and their organ down to the club for some heavenly amen breaks. The rest of the EP remains firmly on the dancefloor, but the club itself is launched into another dimension, powered by overcharged acid and off-kilter percussion riding over weighty, no-nonsense basslines. Compliments gives Acid Dance quite the beating on the remix by putting it through a paper shredder, grabbing some of the shreds of paper and sticking them back together with a highly flammable glue before lighting the whole thing into a chaotic frenzy.

For the 283rd edition of our mix series we present the impervious Katya. Kindred resident and regular party starter, Katya has a love for all things electro. I wanted this mix to reflect the sort of sounds you may expect to see me play in a club setting at the moment — spooky techno & electro really do it for me, especially if there’s a vocoder involved, so my sets are always infused with a bit of doom & gloom. I play happy stuff too but the moodiness gets to my soul more than any other style of music. Although the mix is punchy, I’ve kept it under 130 and stripped it back so it’s listenable during work hours. I feel like in the past, my guest mixes were probably too intense to listen to unless you were getting ready to go out, that’s something I’ll be doing a lot less of this year. Equally, I’m hoping this mix is the beginning of me coming out of my imposter syndrome fuelled creative block. Enjoy ! @k_atya

"The mix traverses quintessentially UK club sounds with the latest underground electronic music from the SWANA region + Arabic speaking diaspora. The mix expresses an insight into my own personal Arab-British identity and the in between space I exist in but definitely circa 4am on the dance floor in a sweaty room. It also expresses the mixture of sounds I like to play at Habibti Nation, the club night and radio show I run. Definitely quite a mix of genres from old school UK funky, new UK techno and hard drum, Portuguese batida and new electronic experimental club sounds from Cairo, Amman, Tunis and the Arabic diaspora. "I’ve really been digging these older records I’ve got from like '98 - '03 that are sitting in this little sweet spot between tech house and techno. They have a real repetitive trancey vibe to them but in an off kilter kind of way. I wanted to mix these together with some more understated tunes that I have that I don’t get to play so much. I’ve really been loving these more moody tracks and b side vibe productions at the moment - probably a reflection of my own mood because of the weather in Melbourne at the moment, but it’s nice to get a chance to give these records a run that might be too challenging or moody for a summer dance floor full of smiles. "I know it sounds cliché but I just wanted it to feel like a journey. I worked really hard to try and connect the beginning to the end in a way that felt like it was building gradually, and hopefully I’ve achieved that. I quite like the idea of taking two steps forward in a mix and then one step back, I like the idea of building tension this way with soundscapes and changing tempos. It’s a nice combination of some tunes I’ve heard out this summer as well as some really eery ambient sounds I’ve been collecting :) I think in my notes for what I wanted the mix to be, I’ve written “eery vocals and lush baselines” Some tracks I’m really loving from it are the “Big Ever - Zoner (Zoned Mix)”, “Emkay - Drop Down” recently released on Craigie Knowes, a track from Memotones album just released on Accidental Meetings (which is beautiful), and an unreleased track from OCB (Casa Voyager) - shout out Driss for always sending me tunes and bigging me up!" Bio: "1020 radio and Threads resident + Club Neptune co-founder, Dj wiggles. After quite a long time on AAJA, I’ve just joined 1020 radio with a new show every third Tuesday of the month. As well as this, I run club neptune which is a not-for-profit party run by 5 friends. The party was born out of a joint desire to keep dance floors as safe possible, and in one of our bids to keep our events safe, our brand is off social media, and instead we promote via a small but growing WhatsApp group of friends and extended friends. We throw our parties at different unannounced venues each event, and always try and keep them to very DIY spaces. Our next event will be our 1st birthday which is coming up in December, more TBA soon. I’m also launching a new online platform / web radio series called off limits. The station / concept will consist of bi-weekly (to start with) streams curated by me, but also via a submission system. All sets will be recorded from a DIY space in London, and my aim is to bring upcoming and established artists into the same space to create new communities and connections. I will also be working alongside promoters via collaborations, to try and bring some diversity to Londons line ups. Hopefully through this platform I can help shine the spotlight onto some of these artists and give them the chance to breakthrough into more regular gigs, and a scene which often feels, off limits. Compliments is a non-binary dance music producer from Huddersfield, based in London. Jerry Bouthier: “We both love the original new wave/post-punk of yore, the sound of NY clubs such as Mud Club, Danceteria etc, when electronic instruments started to infiltrate studios and dancefloors. Futuristic music to dance to - obviously fed by disco - but also packed with attitude and interesting new sounds.
