Whenever I’m out working or just taking a walk and I see one of these beautiful forest treasures, I just have to collect them. And then after I collect them, I begin to dream up ways to use them. And when I dream up ways to use them, I have to go out into the barn and experiment. And when I’m out in the barn experimenting, I come up with fun crafting ideas. And when I come up with fun crafting ideas, I have to share them with YOU!

And so, I bring to you the Fall Pinecone Wreath Kit. Using the provided 16” wire form and approximately 50 white pinecones, as well as items and tools you provide (floral wire, wire cutters, and hand shears) you and your besties can create your own Fall Pinecone Wreath. Note: The sap from the pinecones can be messy. Wear old clothes, and use hand sanitizer to get the sap off your hands.

Scroll to see the 4 video tips we’ve provided to help you with the project.

We are selling the kits at the Isanti Neighborhood Market October 6th and 13th from 2-6pm. (The Market is located in the parking lot of Members Cooperative Credit Union on the corner of Hwy 65 and Heritage Blvd/Co Rd 5) in Isanti.

When you give a tree farmer a pinecone . . . you get a Fall Pinecone Wreath

Fall Pinecone Wreath Kit Video Tip #1

Click below to see video demo about how to start your Fall Pinecone Wreath

Click on the video to see how to get started with your Fall Pinecone Wreath Kit

After just a few moments of working with the shrubs I find myself slowing down and relaxing. I truly think that the lavender scent casts a bit of a spell and I find myself falling into a calm state. Casually removing weeds and trimming stems, I listen to the bees buzzing and talk to the shrubs as if there could hear me. Maybe they can?

This spring we planted some bare root phenomenal shrubs. And overall we have been very encouraged by their progress. At first we were concerned whether or not that they were going to make it through the transplant process. But after a few weeks they began to green up and have since produced a plethora of stems. As you may recall from my previous blog, the first year lavender stems need to be cut back in order to refocus the plants energy from the buds to the roots. We want the shrubs to develop deep roots so that they can survive the winter. We have high hopes that these plants will be big bloomers next summer!

Watch the attached video to see how we trim the buds back . . . you might be surprised at how zen I sound as I describe the process . . . just the magic of gardening lavender.

During the summer of 2021 we planted our first lavender shrubs, and that summer we learned quite a bit.

First, baby lavender looks like a carrot top to a rabbit. Our rabbits weren’t able to tell the difference and I’m sure they were sadly disappointed when they didn’t dig up any carrots. Rightfully so! We spent a few weeks feeling like Mr. McGregor, but after establishing a fence we seemed to win the battle. They must have learned their lesson, as they are no longer giving us any trouble.

Second, we needed to learn patience. In the first year of planting, the lavender buds need to be clipped in order for the energy of the plants to transfer from creating buds to growing deep roots. We were so excited to see the little purple buds and cutting them back was an exercise of faith. Everything we had learned directed us to follow this practice, and it paid off the summer of 2022 when the lavender survived our MN winter and flowered beautifully in July.

Watch for more posts about our 2022 harvest experiences coming soon.
