Andy's First Responder Chili Recipe
Brown:
4 lbs ground beef

Add and sauté til clear:
1 onion
4 cloves garlic

Add and sauté:
2 tlbs chili powder

Add:
1 24oz jar medium salsa
1 bottle beer

Simmer in crockpot overnight.

Add:
kidney beans (cook 2 lbs dry kidney beans, don't use canned)
1 bottle beer

Last 30 minutes before service add:
1 small can chipotle peppers chopped
2 tlbs chili powder
1 tlbs cumin
1 tlbs knorr beef flavor granulated bullion

A Word of Explanation

We haven't released an episode in nearly a year. This is not news to anyone.

One of the reasons for this is I've been overwhelmed with work. I've been traveling a lot and, frankly, things could be better with my job situation. Typical stuff for many of you, I'm sure -- but unusual for me and it's taken some getting used to. I'm dealing with it -- FuGrrl and I have made a plan and we're comfortable that things will be in better standing soon.

Our free time has been spent in our favorite form of stress relief -- Swinging!! So that's a good thing.

As many of you also know, we felt the show had been getting stale. Things have been really clicking for us in the LS and we didn't want to sound like we were bragging or just dully recounting what we did the previous month. Further, many of our friends here in San Antonio became listeners which complicates story telling somewhat. There's more scrutiny. This has forced to do some homework and try and re-imagine what the podcast should be.

In short -- we'll back soon. We love the podcast and we do have a growing list of stuff we want to share with you. It's just that the format has yet to be determined.

More to the point -- producing our monthly, one-hour podcast took two hours of pre-production, two hours of production, then four hours of editing. Committing eight hours a month is not trivial -- I want to be sure the product of all that effort is something that adds to the community, is entertaining, and most importantly, something FuGrrl and I can be proud of.

Blog Entry: My problem with the term Progressive Swinging

The term progressive swinging has been proposed by the Life on the Swingset Podcast as a term to describe the type of swinging some of them engage in. In the podcast, the panel describes progressive swinging as swinging with a close group of friends, which they say encourages bonding, promotes safer sex practices and community. The implication is that since the people they would be having sex with are friends of theirs, as their friendships grow, so would their desire to care for each other's well being. This, in turn, would create a community of so-called progressive swingers.

In this article I will discuss an alternate view; why I believe “progressive swinger” is not only a useless term, but one that carries moral judgement and potentially harmful one to those of who do not fit its description.

Ms Swap Fu and I have been swingers for a little more than three years. We have sex with close friends – people we cherish in fact – however, we would never call ourselves progressive swingers. The reason for this is that we do not see friendship as a precondition that must be in place before we have sex with people. The people we have sex with exist at varying levels of intimacy from us: from complete strangers to people we, as mentioned, cherish.

From Wikipedia (which I will be abusing for the length of this article):

Swinging or (rarely) partner swapping is a non-monogamous behavior, in which singles or partners in a committed relationship engage in sexual activities with others as a recreational or social activity. Swinging can take place in a number of contexts, ranging from spontaneous sexual activity at informal gatherings of friends to planned regular social meetings to hooking up with like-minded people at a swingers' club. It can also involve Internet-based swinger social networking services online.

By this definition, what some of the Swingset panel as well as Ms Swap Fu and I do is correctly considered swinging. The above definition quite clearly says that swingers can be friends with each other or not.

Now, let’s go back to this concept of progressive swinging. The perceived need for this term has arisen, I believe, out of criticisms by other members of the non-monogamous community and from the public at large that swingers are promiscuous. I believe the Swingset panel is trying to mitigate this criticism by saying that progressive swingers are not promiscuous. But, let’s remind ourselves what promiscuity means.

From Wikipedia:

Promiscuity, in human sexual behavior, is the practice of casual sex with multiple sexual partners.

I do not think the Swingset panel would disagree that by this definition, that they are indeed promiscuous, as Ms Swap Fu and I are. As in the definition of swinging, nothing is said above about relationship those who are promiscuous have with each other. The only qualifier is that the sex be casual and that there are multiple partners.

But the Wikipedia definition continues:

The term can carry a moral judgment and is viewed in the context of a mainstream social ideal for sexual activity to take place within exclusive committed relationships. A common example of behavior viewed as promiscuous within the mainstream social ideals of many cultures is a one-night stand.

I have highlighted “can carry moral judgment” above. And this is where I have a problem. The term “progressive swinger” is an attempt to avoid moral judgment. It infers that those who are progressive swingers are engaging in a behavior which is inside mainstream social ideal, or moral. And those who are not progressive swingers are outside the mainstream social ideal, or immoral.

This moral judgment is only exacerbated by the choice of the word “progressive” to somehow describe those within the mainstream ideal. What are the rest of us swingers to be called? Non-progressive swingers? Regressive swingers? Or we could just be “immoral swingers” and cut to the chase.

To be clear, I do not have a problem with being called immoral. Morality is a matter of opinion as far as I’m concerned, and everyone is entitled to have an opinion. Further, I think everybody has the right to call themselves whatever they want. That being said, I would like to know whether people calling themselves progressive swingers are comfortable taking a moral stand against those of us who do not have a problem with being promiscuous?

Ms Swap Fu and I are unabashedly promiscuous, and by the non-judgmental definition of the word, so are those on the Swingset panel. The only difference is that the Swingset panel’s promiscuity, when qualified by the fact that they only have sex with friends, more closely resembles the sexual practices of other non-monogamous groups.

And that’s fine.

On the swinger dating websites you see the term “friends first” a lot. This means the swinging couple wants to become friends with their potential sex partners before they have sex. I think this is a much more accurate and judgment-free manner of describing what the swinging members of the Swingset panel do: friends first swinging. The progressive swinging label is therefore largely unnecessary or least ill chosen.

Unannounced Kasidie rebranded?

Earlier today, I was going to log into Kasidie.com. When I entered Kasidie.com into Safari on my iPhone, I was redirected to dirtyrockstars.com. Since dirtyrockstars.com was not the website I was intending to go to and fearing that Kasidie.com may have been spoofed I decided to err on the side of caution and not log into the site. We had not received any prior announcement from Kasidie.com staff about the rebranding.

I sent emails to admin@kasidie.com and nicoleta@kasidie.com to see what was up. I received responses from both addresses claiming that the rebranding of Kasidie.com to dirtyrockstars.com was, in fact, legitimate, unfortunately, since I cannot be sure that the entire Kasidie.com domain isn't being spoofed, there is no way for me to know if these emails are valid.

Below is the email I received:

Hi guys,

Yes, we made the change to the new DirtyRockstars brand this morning - we sent out a notification e-mail to all members, but apparently it's still being delivered. It's taking longer than we thought to reach everybody. This is what we sent:

We are excited to let you know that 'Kasidie' is now 'Dirty Rockstars'!!!

This morning we changed our name from www.kasidie.com to www.dirtyrockstars.com - Why the rebrand? Well, it's something we've talked about for awhile now as many people have challenges spelling (heck, even pronouncing) 'Kasidie'. As much as we love the brand, it was apparent we needed to move to something a little easier to remember.

As a team we went back and forth on the pro's and con's of different names, talking about what we should roll with. The key elements of a name, we all agreed, were that it be hip, sexy, uninhibited, and not something like...
Swinger(insert boring generic here).com or,
Lifestyle(insert boring generic here).com

The name had to evoke the fantastic lifestyle that we are all lucky enough to live. And it had to be something we can wear on a shirt, with a wry smile as we play amongst the vanillas.

So why "D.R."? Because it perfectly conveys who we are and the exciting, uninhibited life we lead.
We've owned Dirty Rockstars for quite awhile (we even have a trademark issued by the USPTO), but unlike our other marks such as Girls Uncorked and BiTheWay we just hadn't done much with it. The team agreed overwhelmingly that the name really represents who we are, as individuals and as a group, when we shed the restraints of our daily existence to become the people we really are; eager to seize opportunities to live our lives with other outgoing, enthusiastic, highly social friends. So we dusted it off and voila, here it is!

Other than this, things are just as they've always been...Nicoleta & Scott are doing what they do best (still as profile 'Kasidie'), Emily is Club Relations, Greg is Jedi-CTO, Donna is Admin, Dave is GraphicSex (web design), Bruce is the official LowLife, Sergio is the photo master, Steve is the icon wizard and working on some neat new videos, our Girls Uncorked chapter hostesses are organizing monthly wine parties in 24 cities, Sante and his BiTheWay hosts are putting together national and local events, and our club and travel agent partners are hosting over 700 parties and vacation events literally all over the world. And, of course, our commitment to the community and to providing the best swingers website in existence is as passionate as ever!

Welcome to Dirty Rockstars! We are still 'Kasidie' by any other name, but now with a brand that strongly evokes the incredible lifestyle we live.

Not that you should care especially, but the sitch is that we're in the process of selling our house, moving into an apartment and then, shortly after, moving into another house. (We're also signing all kinds of shit that remind us that we need to make more money.) Small things for sure, but Ms Swap Fu and I don't do this often enough to be good at it and we don't feel that we'd be able to deliver the podcast in a timely manner. It's been pandemonium up in this piece of, dare I say, biblical proportions. We've been told our upheaval is the cause of the Great East Coast Earthquake, Spiderman: The Music, the Brain Eating Amoeba and Bert and Ernie coming out.

Why the Facebook is Fu'less

Listeners often ask us where they can find us on Facebook. The short answer is, "You can't".

Neither Ms Swap Fu nor I keep accounts on the ubiquitous social media site -- personal, podcast related, or otherwise. We have many reason for this, mostly related to the inherent dangers of entrusting a profit-motivated corporation with your private information. But more pragmatically, it boils down to two points, 1.) you are going to do dumb ass shit online, and 2.) it's going to be there forever.

It wouldn't be right for me to write this post without listing horror stories. Specifically, several friends of ours have had their jobs compromised because of things they have posted on Facebook. Two have lost their jobs because they posted dated pictures of themselves partying on supposed "sick days". Stupid? The pictures? Certainly. But have you ever played hooky? I have. Who's to say someone else isn't going to post a picture of you and tagging it. But theres' ways of preventing that. Of course there are, and have fun policing that... forever.

Another was passed over for a promotion. A source close to the manager responsible told my friend that stuff in her Facebook profile was used as evidence of moral turpitude. Things she had posted three years prior. Should you have to pay for your "mistakes"... forever?

Still others spent extended periods without a job (I suspect) because their Facebook profiles, which were of course linked to the email addresses at the top of their resume. Rookie mistake, right? Sure, but it's another thing you have to be aware of and monitor... forever.

Now, you may say that these people were being singled out as target for other reasons. I assure that that was not the case. In fact, every employer I have worked for in the last 12 years has engaged outside parties to regularly troll the Internet for information about their employees and online background checks are the absolute norm for all job applicants. This policy is generally mandated by their insurers in order to safeguard against shrinkage, intellectual property and productivity loss as well as to reduce the risk of workplace harm. The problem is these third parties did not mandate how the information will be used by the companies; their only job is only to report.

But don't take my freaky, libertarian, swinger word for it, I feel like it was all much better stated by Wired Magazine's UK editor in this article.

Now... let's not get into how creepy it is when you get a friend request from your Aunt Mildred.

An Attempt to Explain the Female vs Male Bisexuality Double-Standard Among Swingers

Female bisexual behavior is considered almost de rigueur in the swinging lifestyle while male bisexual activity is generally considered unwelcome -- although not unknown. This discrepancy has been getting much attention of late; potentially causing fissures in a community already embattled by those with opposing moral views. In an effort to bring some perspective to the matter, I thought it would be useful to lend my view on why this discrepancy exists. At the end of this examination I will detail where I stand on the argument.

The reason male bisexuality is discouraged in the lifestyle is to empower women.

Now bear with me...

The old chestnut in swinging is that women are in charge. This, of course, is utter bullshit. In the lifestyle, as in most other things, it is men and women making decisions together. A relationship between two people, whether in the lifestyle or the vanilla world, consists of series of compromises, of give and take. Otherwise none of us would be able to make even the smallest decisions as a couple to get things done in life without a fight, or worse yet, without resorting to deceit. As they make these compromises, members of the couple will tend to fall into the same roles. Negotiation tactics are developed for dealing with different situations. This, in fact, is why the lifestyle works best for people with good communication skills and possess the ability to compromise; this is what makes strong relationships. (An aside... I believe the lower divorce rate for marriages in the lifestyle has more to do with these skills than anything to do with sexual gratification.)

Entering the lifestyle is one of the most high-involvement decisions a couple will make. Typically, the male-half wants sexual variety and the female, while also desirous, is hesitant to put the relationship at risk. In order to gain her buy-in, the male assures her that she will get to "call the shots". This is a legitimate tactic commonly employed outside of swinging. You give a little in order to get a lot in return.

At swinger clubs, women will typically engage in bisexual play with each other. During this time, the guys watch the action and wait to be allowed to join the game. This is a way for women to call the shots. It works on multiple levels. First, when women play with other women they will more than likely have the undivided attention of the men; it gives them the opportunity to feel desired, which makes them feel good. Next, it gives them the opportunity experience sexual novelty. However, neither of these are the most important reason, which is that it allows the women to decide with whom their partner will have sex. The women, are in-effect, vetting potential sexual partners for the men. If the woman does not play with a woman, odds are neither will her partner. Further, even after having played with another woman, if the female half of the couple feels that the other woman could be a threat to the relationship, the other woman would be discarded as a potential play partner for the male half. However, if all goes well, then male-half will be allowed to have sex with the other woman. The female half calls the shots, and that was bargain.

The best part is that it works. After all, most men are happy "just to be there". The mere possibility of having sex with another partner keeps men interested. This explains why it costs twice as much for single men to join a swinger club than it does for a couple or for a single woman to join -- and the single men are always there! Just being there is gratifying, and if something were to happen? All the better.

Men playing other men breaks the deal. By doing so, men would be taking back some of the control they yielded to their partners. It messes with the dynamic because women would no longer be the gate keepers of the men's sexual activities and thus would feel like they are adding risk to the relationship. Swingers have cultural understanding of this dynamic and this is why they protect it. It's not done at a conscious level; it's simply a case of, "We've arrived at this point, and it's working."

So where do I stand on whether or not male bisexual behavior should be more widely accepted in the lifestyle? I contend that it is tacitly accepted and regarded as another natural variation in the lifestyle. The reason we don't see more of it is because it done exclusively in private between consenting parties, and not in the open, where the current, functioning dynamic is holding the whole works together. In other words, you will rarely, if ever, see it at a swinger club.

My wife and I love swinging and while we love intimate encounters with other couples in a private setting, we would like to continue to be able to go to clubs and meet new couples. I am a very sexually open person and will advocate anyone's right to sexual self-expression, however if discouraging male bisexual behavior at the swinger clubs means more people will enter the lifestyle, then I am, much to my chagrin, on board with it.

I hope this rant adds to this discussion and helps clarify my position on this delicate topic.

Be realistic about mythical creatures... A unicorn speaks out

Hey,

just a quick note to say that I listened to the most recent podcast and the unicorn talk resonated with me of course! The idea that couples are looking for the omni-available but not clingy , experienced but probably not nasty, and oh-so beautiful woman to share their bed made me laugh a bit bitterly. It probably resonated all the more so because I just had to get a little rude with an ex-possible couple. I say couple but it was always the guy who was in contact and he would not fuck off when told to do so nicely! I originally made the rookie mistake of hanging on and thinking that he would get a clue and because I thought his wife was both hot and nice. Stupid me, but in hindsight my main bitch was that I had to be perfect for them (him?) in word and deed but it seemed like my feelings and requests were, in ascending order of gravity, not understood, not listened to or just dismissed out of hand. Perhaps an extreme case but my advice to couples looking for a unicorn is to not only to put yourself in her shoes but to use those 'famous' communication skills that are so good between swinging partners and actually ask her what she feels about the situation and what she wants. Act on the information if it lines up with what you want. If it isn't a fit for you then be cool and direct about it when you explain why.

Thanks for your thoughts. I'm sorry you had to get rude with that guy. People can be very insensitive and we feel badly when anyone is mistreated in the lifestyle. The unicorn is a vital component to swinging, not only for the couples who seek them but also for the rest of us. The reason is because the idea of being with a single woman brings more people into the lifestyle; people see it as an easy first step. I don't happen to agree that it's an easy step; in fact, I think that trying to be with a single woman is probably one of the most difficult things for a couple to negotiate and probably should be done only after the couple has had more experience.

I think the primary reasons why new couples want to be with a single woman are because the man wants to have sex with another woman and the woman wants to have sex with someone other than their husband, and another woman is the only situation her husband finds "acceptable". This is not an equal state of affairs and selfishly motivated. While I think that there is also smaller contingent of women who are genuinely interested in having sex with another woman. However, I think that this is still not motivated out of the desire to have a shared experience with the unicorn.

Next, there are problems with a new couple engaging in a three-way dynamic. A couple gets used to having sex with each other, adding a third can be exciting and novels, but it also means that, at times, one of the members of the couple will be unoccupied. Now, while most men know how to "entertain" themselves while the two women get it on, it has been my experience that there is nothing that kills the mood quicker than when a woman feels neglected in the bedroom. So be it the woman in the couple or the unicorn, great care must be taken to ensure that the woman who is not actively engaged in the encounter feels included and cared for. Otherwise, things will cool off quickly. After all, no woman wants to reflect on whether or not they made the right decision to be in this encounter while the other two people are having sex in front of her.

Well - shortly something about ourselves: we are a married couple (lucky since 25 years) in our very early 50ies. Living in the south of Germany near a city where cars are manufactured starting with 'P' amd 'M'.

And they invited us to stay over night at their home.

Echo No More...

Just a quick technical update and commentary from the Fu.

WARNING: Tech Stuff Follows

I produce the Swap Fu Podcast using Sony Vegas Pro. My background is in video production, so it's just easier to use Vegas than learn an entirely new piece of software. We record the podcast using USB stereo headsets; I use a Plantronics that folds up and Ms Swap Fu uses a Sennheiser. Vegas puts each headset on its own channel and I can adjust the levels of each in real-time or in post. Very nice since I don't need to dick with a mixer or a separate audio interface. Also, the headsets can be used for Skype, gaming, etc. Anyway... it's the way to go if you're considering getting into the podcast game IMHO.

As we're sure you heard in our podcasts, we've been plagued by a nagging echo coming from one or both headsets. I couldn't seem to shake it! We changed the way we faced each other. Sat closer, furhter away, offset 90 degrees. I messed with the levels. Nothing. The echo wouldn't go away.

Finally, as a last-ditch effort, I opened up the track effects in Vegas to apply a "Gate" filter, which I heard could help with problem. You can imagine my surprise when I found that there were already affects applied to the track; a noise gate, an EQ and a compressor. I deleted the effects from the track and recorded a test. Nice and flat with no echo. These headset mics are really top notch... at least for podcasting purposes. lol

Anyway, I think I solved the problem and we should have echo free podcasting from here on out. Thank you as always for listening to our ramblings. The next episode should be a hot one. :)

Sorry about the rather anemic show notes last. Not much to write down really and at 20 minutes, you can get through the Swap Fu podcast quickly. Big fun at the club Friday and our new connections more than made up for the disillusionment of that Tuesday night stand up.

I'm going to try to post another podcast next weekend. We have a date with the Spanish-speaking couple Saturday. Ms. Swap Fu is worried that the female half and I will get tired of translating. My hope is that nature will take it's course and the "international language" will take over. We'll see. :)

I've been having a lot of fun on Twitter. I guess it would have been cool to send a few from the club Friday, but that's not what I was there to do, If you know what I mean.

The first date that wasn't

Ms Swap Fu and I started recording a new podcast last Tuesday night. It was supposed to recount our experience with our first date with another couple. We met them on SDC, exchanged a couple e-mails and they seemed like a good match. The long and the short of it is that we were stood up. Nice, right? Here we are, just barely dipping our toes (and other appendages ;) into the swinger waters and we get stood up, something that never happened to us in our single lives. Crushing!

So, after waiting at the agreed-upon location for more than 40 minutes, we decided to call the number we were given. No answer. It was the male half's mobile and we did not leave a message. Why feed a troll, right? Later that evening, we received an e-mail from (supposedly) the female half saying that the reason they didn't show up was because the male half forgot to remind her of the date. So, just to be straight, they BOTH knew about the date. I do not know what's sadder; that even with two of them, they still miss appointments, or that the female half thinks she can absolve herself for any blame in the matter by saying it was the male's responsibility to keep her schedule.

Ms Swap Fu and I went on and on for about about 30 minutes in the podcast about what had happened. What if we had kids and had had to arrange for a siter? What if we were completely new to the lifestyle, anxious and apprehensive and had this happen? The conversation turned pretty negative pretty quick as you can imagine.

Since neither of us think that our reaction to this situation represents they way we generally feel about the lifestyle, we've opted to not post this podcast. We are going out to the club this weekend and expect to have a great time. We've decided to spare our listeners the bad vibes and hopefully post something positive next week. I'm sure we will touch on the fact that we were stood up in the podcast but, since more than a week will have passed by then, I'm sure our perspective will be more measured.

I was pleasantly surprised when John from the Swingercast was the Swap Fu's first Twitter follower. Now, from his podcast you can tell is a great guy, and I'm sure he follows us as a courtesy because we follow him. Still, it make us feel accepted at some level.

Last night he tweeted that he liked our first Episode. All we can say is we're very honored, the material comes from the heart, and we hope the our excitement and joy at being in the lifestyle comes across half as well as it does in the Swingercast. I've been listening to the Swingercast for some time now, and honestly, it is the reason why I felt confident that Ms Swap Fu and I would find community in organized swinging. John and Allie's accounting of their adventures in the lifestyle have paved a way for us and many others to follow.

After about three hours of cyber-toil yesterday, I was able able to get the podcast up and running on Feedburner. The last thing I did was submit the Podcast to iTunes. I guess it worked because I received an e-mail saying we were approved. Hurray!

I don't know why I'm excited by this. My intention with this podcast is to use it as a way to chronicle Ms. Swap Fu's and my experiences as we join the Swinger community. An oral history, so to speak. lol We do hope that our podcast is helpful to others, if for no other reason than because it serves as an added voice. Maybe some will learn from it, maybe not... but the words will be there and be counted.

Episode 1: Swap Fu Begins

Show notes:
A very brief introduction of Mr. and Ms. Swap Fu is followed by the reason we decided to get "formal" about swinging. We talk about our first club visit. First impressions of the place and the people. We also have a fun bit about PDA. We end the podcast with a brief plug for Planned Parenthood.

I did a quick and dirty job of editing out anything that would identify our city, the club we attended and the people we met there. I think it's clean enough. ;)

Impressions:
This podcasting shit isn't easy. A lot clunkier than I thought. Getting the ball rolling was a challenge, but once we hit our stride, we couldn't shut up. lol. I cut it back to 24 minutes or so, but we could have done an hour without a problem. I think we'll keep it to 20 - 30 minutes every other week. The next edit will go quicker. I moved to my old editing environment, Sony Vegas. It's meant for video but it also does audio editing very well and it is what I'm used to.

The music is Jah Roots playing "Soul Trouble" which was released with a Podsafe license. I may switch it next time something a little more modern. What do you think?

Introducing Swap Fu!

This podcast is meant as a journal of Swap Fu's journey into the swinger lifestyle. Our intention is to post a podcast every other week chronicling our experiences and discuss topics that are (hopefully) of interest to the swinger community and to each other. While listening, we hope that you either find yourself nodding in recognition, laughing at our mistakes or maybe learning a new trick or two for your arsenal. Just don't call the cops; we don't like cops.

This Blog will be a show notes repository and place for feedback. Comments welcome, but be nice or go home. :)
