The future of American tennis will once again be on display at the 58th Annual Easter Bowl USTA Spring Nationals Presented by adidas and taking place March 21-29 at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, home to the BNP Paribas Open Masters 1000 event.

One of the nation’s largest and most prestigious junior tennis tournaments, the Easter Bowl is a USTA Level 1 Spring National Championship in the 18s, 16s, 14s and 12s for both boys and girls with gold, silver and bronze balls handed out for top finishers in all eight singles and doubles divisions.

Current world-ranked No. 27, Irvine’s Learner Tien, played the prestigious Easter Bowl seven times as a junior, dating back to his debut in 2015. In 2019, Tien advanced to the Boys’ 14s singles semifinals and in 2021, he made it to the Boys’ 16s final as a 15-year-old. In his final Easter Bowl match as a 16-year-old playing in the 18s in 2022, Tien competed in the quarterfinals and fell to good friend and training partner Alex Michelsen, who went on to win the title.

Nearly every American men’s and women’s Grand Slam champion since the first tournament began in 1968 has competed in the Easter Bowl, a true pipeline to the professional ranks, including past winners and International Tennis Hall of Famers John McEnroe, Tracy Austin, Pam Shriver and Jennifer Capriati. Recent past Easter Bowl champions include current pro stars, Fritz, Jenson Brooksby, Frances Tiafoe, Marcos Giron, Brandon Nakashima, Sofia Kenin, Taylor Townsend, Tommy Paul, Alex Michelsen, Emma Navarro and Iva Jovic, to name a few. Recent Australian Open winner Madison Keys and two-time 2025 Grand Slam finalist Amanda Anismova are also counted among Easter Bowl alumni.

Easter Bowl matches will once again be live-streamed on www.EasterBowl.com with more information to come. To keep up with all the Easter Bowl news, visit the website at www.easterbowl.com.

The iconic junior tournament started by Seena Hamilton in 1968 is considered the Super Bowl of junior tennis. Longtime Easter Bowl Chairman Emeritus Lornie Kuhle took over the event 14 years ago and was responsible for moving it to the Tennis Garden. There are few other junior tennis tournaments in the United States that possess the same rich history as the Easter Bowl. The tournament started in New York City and has been played in Florida, Arizona and California.

Tennis Australia today announced Chief Executive Officer Craig Tiley has accepted the position of Chief Executive Officer of the United States Tennis Association (USTA).

Tiley will remain in his current role over the coming months to help Tennis Australia appoint his successor and to support a smooth transition.

Commencing as Tennis Australia’s Director of Player Development in 2005, Tiley became Australian Open Tournament Director in 2006 and CEO in 2013. He has presided over a period of unprecedented growth for both the sport and the Australian Open.

“Leading this team has been the privilege of my life. I am incredibly proud that Tennis Australia is now recognised globally as the player’s partner and the benchmark for the sport, events and entertainment,” Tiley said.

“The sport in Australia is in excellent shape. Tennis is one of the nation’s most popular sports, and participation is growing strongly – up eight per cent last year. We have a great group of players performing at the highest level and a world-class team developing the next generation of talented players and coaches.

“But my greatest thrill has been working with the many talented people throughout our entire team and indeed the Australian tennis family. It is a tight-knit community with so much passion, talent and commitment to the sport we all love.

“While I look forward to the challenge at the USTA, my immediate and total focus is clear: delivering a smooth transition and ensuring I leave the sport, the business and the team in the best possible shape.”

Tennis Australia Chair Chris Harrop said Tiley’s tenure has been transformative:

“Under Craig’s leadership, participation and engagement with our sport has gone from strength to strength. Tennis is very much front of mind for many Australians – from the Hot Shots program and social tennis through to club and competitive play, and the excitement of recent innovations like the One Point Slam.

“Tennis Australia is now globally renowned for its innovation, inclusiveness and event management, as showcased in an outstanding Summer of Tennis which culminated in a another record-breaking Australian Open this year.

“The fact that Craig has been selected for one of the biggest roles in global sport is a testament to the strength of our organisation,” Harrop said.

“We want to thank Craig for his enormous contribution to tennis in Australia and for his role in developing an outstanding team which is well equipped to deliver continued success. We have commenced an internal and external search for a new CEO and look forward to an orderly transition.”

Tennis Australia has appointed international executive recruitment firm Egon Zehnder to lead the search for Tiley’s replacement.

The Credit One Charleston Open, a WTA 500 tournament and North America’s largest women’s-only professional tennis event, will commit $2.5 million to its players in 2026, including a record $2.3 million in on-site prize money and $200,000 towards player benefits programs. This total investment doubles the amount offered in 2025 and marks a landmark moment in the sport, making Charleston the first standalone WTA 500 event to proactively raise prize money.

In April 2025, Credit One Bank extended its title partnership of the Credit One Charleston Open through 2031 and, as part of that extension and commitment to the sport, announced the tournament would offer equal prize money beginning in 2026. The decision reflects the bank’s belief in investing in women athletes at the highest level and further reinforces Charleston’s position as a leader on the WTA Tour Driven by Mercedes-Benz.

“Women’s tennis is delivering at a very high level right now, from the quality of competition to the engagement from fans, and this investment reflects that,” said Ben Navarro, Tournament Owner of the Credit One Charleston Open. “Offering equal prize money is about respecting the players and the work they put in, and aligning the tournament with the value of the game.”

The 2026 WTA Tour-wide minimum purse for a WTA 500 event is $1,206,446. With Charleston’s total player compensation reaching $2.5 million ($1,293,554 more than required), the tournament will reward players $2.3 million in on-court earnings plus a $200,000 contribution to the Women’s Tennis Benefits Association (WTBA), which offers key services for players including a pension plan, health insurance and healthcare benefits, and subsidized college tuition and online degrees through the University of Florida and Indiana University East, along with additional benefit initiatives.

“We’re proud to support the Credit One Charleston Open, the largest women’s-only tennis tournament in North America, as it becomes the first standalone WTA 500-level event to take meaningful action toward closing the gender pay gap that prevails in tennis,” says Amber Greenwalt, SVP, Brand and Advertising, Credit One Bank. “As champions of fostering forward financial momentum and opportunity for all, our commitment to equal prize money for women marks an important milestone and sets the stage for what’s ahead in women’s tennis.”

The Charleston Open has a long legacy of breaking new ground in tennis, having been the first women’s tennis event to offer $100,000 in prize money in 1973 and the first to be broadcast live on network television. The inaugural champion, Rosie Casals, received a check for $30,000, which was the largest prize money payout awarded to a woman that year. The tournament was also recently named the WTA 500 Tournament of the Year, for the fourth consecutive year, voted on by the players, and was the first WTA Tour clay tennis tournament to introduce Electronic Line Calling Live in 2025.

“The Credit One Charleston Open offering equal prize money is something we’re incredibly proud of,” said Madison Keys, 2019 Charleston Champion and WTA Players’ Council representative. “It represents real progress for women’s tennis and shows how far the sport continues to grow. As players, we’re very fortunate to have a tournament and title sponsor who genuinely sees the value in women’s sports and are willing to lead by example”

As part of the WTA’s pathway towards equal prize money, all 500-level standalone tournaments are projected to offer equal prize money by 2033.

The Credit One Charleston Open will return to the Credit One Stadium, March 28 – April 5, 2026. Current player commitments include top-ranked Americans Amanda Anisimova, Jessica Pegula, Madison Keys and Emma Navarro, as well as Olympic gold medalist Belinda Bencic. The nine-day Credit One Charleston Open showcases a singles draw of 48 players, a qualifying draw of 24 players, and a doubles draw of 16 players. The event traditionally hosts more than 90,000 attendees on Daniel Island.

What They’re Saying:

Portia Archer, WTA CEO:
“Charleston’s 2026 financial commitment is an empowering statement about where our sport is headed. It represents a smart, strategic investment in the economic strength and future of the sport and highlights that investment in women’s tennis drives growth, opportunity, and value. We’re proud to see a tournament with such history take this important step forward.”

Bob Moran, Credit One Charleston Open Tournament Director and member of the WTA Board and WTA Foundation Board:
“Charleston’s investment represents more than a single tournament milestone. It reflects where the WTA Tour is headed. When we invest in players at this level, we’re investing in the collective future of the Tour, in opportunity, growth and the next generation of athletes who will shape the game. The changes happening today are creating a stronger foundation for what’s next, and the Credit One Charleston Open is proud to be part of that momentum.”

Emma Navarro, World No. 18 and Charleston local:
“Growing up in Charleston, this tournament has always meant so much to me. Seeing the Credit One Charleston Open take a historic step forward by offering equal prize money is a meaningful moment for our sport. It shows real leadership and a commitment to moving women’s tennis forward. I’m incredibly proud that my hometown tournament is setting the standard.”

Jessica Pegula, a member of the WTA Players’ Council and the 2025 Charleston champion:
“Seeing a tournament like Charleston commit to equal prize money matters. It shows that the work we put in and the level we compete at are being recognized. When tournaments continue to invest equally, it sends a clear message to current players and the next generation about where the sport is headed.”

Venus Williams, Former World No. 1 and 2004 Charleston champion:
“This is a huge moment for the legacy of our sport which sends a powerful message to the players, fans and the future of tennis. It shows real progress and a belief in the value of women’s sport.”

About the Credit One Charleston Open:
The Credit One Charleston Open is North America’s largest women-only tennis tournament. In 2026, the tournament will become the first standalone WTA 500 event to offer equal prize money. Formerly known as the Family Circle Cup and Volvo Car Open, the event was founded in 1973 and relocated to Charleston, S.C., in 2001 from Hilton Head Island, S.C. The tournament has a history of breaking new ground in women’s tennis, including becoming the first women’s event to offer $100,000 in prize money in 1973 and the first to be broadcast live on network television. Recognized as the WTA 500 Event of the Year in 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025, the tournament traditionally attracts more than 90,000 spectators.

The ATP announced that Andrea Gaudenzi has been re-elected as Chairman. Gaudenzi will serve a third term through 2028, having held the position since January 2020.

Under Gaudenzi’s leadership, men’s professional tennis has undergone a period of unprecedented growth. Since the start of his tenure, total annual ATP-level player compensation has risen by $100 million, reaching an all-time high of $269.6 million in 2025 and $400 million when combined with the Grand Slams.

A series of landmark reforms introduced under OneVision, the ATP’s long-term strategic plan, have enhanced the fan experience, elevated the Tour’s top-tier events, and aligned the interests of players and tournaments under the ATP.

In his third term at the helm of the organisation, Gaudenzi will lead the Tour as it undertakes a comprehensive product review, expected to be implemented in 2028 to coincide with the introduction of a 10th ATP Masters 1000 in Saudi Arabia. The review will focus on four key areas: rankings, compensation structure, calendar optimisation and event format.

Andrea Gaudenzi, ATP Chairman, said: “It’s an honour to continue serving the ATP – an organisation that has shaped my career since my time as a player on the Tour. When I reflect on what we’ve achieved, I see a sport with stronger foundations than ever, underpinned by record growth that speaks to tennis’s potential.

“Now is the time to keep pushing. The second phase of OneVision is about unifying our governance, adapting and becoming more agile, because our sport is undeniably stronger when we move forward together. Thank you to the ATP Board and our members for their continued trust and support.”

Among the most impactful reforms of Gaudenzi’s tenure has been the introduction of tournament profit-sharing at ATP Masters 1000 events—a landmark reform underpinned by financial transparency for the players through tournament financial auditing. Over the past three years, it has distributed more than $37 million to players. From 2026, tournament profit-sharing will expand to ATP 500 events through a new model tailored to that category, further strengthening alignment between players and tournaments and ensuring athletes share more directly in the sport’s growth.

The expansion to 12-day ATP Masters 1000 events has increased total compensation at this level by 59% in just three years, creating more earning opportunities for a wider cohort of players. It has also unlocked major infrastructure investments in Shanghai, Cincinnati, Madrid, Rome, Paris, and more, improving conditions for players and driving record fan attendance of 5.6 million across ATP Tour events in 2025.

The expansion of the Masters 1000 Bonus Pool, from just 12 to 30 players, has further boosted compensation, reaching a record $21.5 million in 2026, and is set to rise significantly further from 2028. Meanwhile the ATP 500 Bonus Pool, newly created in 2023, stands at $3.07 million in 2026.

On the ATP Challenger Tour, total prize money has increased by 167% since 2022 to a record $32.4 million in 2026, strengthening the pathway for the next generation of players.

Revenue growth has been underpinned by the creation of Tennis Data Innovations (TDI) in 2021 and aggregation of media rights under ATP Media. Together, these initiatives have helped to maximise the commercial value of the Tour’s media and data assets, contributing to record revenue levels.

Additional achievements under Gaudenzi’s leadership include the expansion of the ATP Pension Plan to cover 300 players, with total contributions reaching a projected $26 million in 2025, up from $12.7 million in 2019. The introduction of Baseline has further strengthened financial security by guaranteeing minimum earnings for the Top 250 for the first time in history.

Looking ahead, the second phase of OneVision focuses on deepening collaboration between the T-7 (ATP, WTA, ITF, and the four Grand Slams) to maximise tennis’ growth potential.

Following a successful professional career on the ATP Tour, during which he won three ATP titles and reached a career-high World No. 18 in the PIF ATP Rankings, Gaudenzi obtained a law degree from the University of Bologna, Italy, followed by a Master of Business Administration at the International University of Monaco. He went on to forge a successful career in business over the next 18 years across sports marketing, entertainment, data, technology and media, before returning to tennis.

On February 1, 2026, Spanish tennis sensation Carlos Alcaraz won the Australian Open men’s singles title, defeating Novak Djokovic in a thrilling final (2–6, 6–2, 6–3, 7–5). Beyond lifting his first trophy in Melbourne, Alcaraz achieved a milestone that historians will mark for decades: he became the youngest man in the Open Era to complete the Career Grand Slam at just 22 years old.

This was no ordinary title — it was a declaration. It wasn’t just a Grand Slam victory; it was a moment that etched Alcaraz’s name alongside the greatest figures in tennis heritage and signaled a major generational shift in the sport.

The Historic Match in Melbourne

Set against the storied backdrop of Rod Laver Arena, Alcaraz’s win came over one of the sport’s most decorated champions, Novak Djokovic — a player with a perfect record in his previous ten Australian Open finals. Alcaraz overcame a first-set loss, weathered Djokovic’s elite play, and turned the match in his favor with remarkable resilience and all-court skill.

With this victory, Alcaraz now has seven Grand Slam titles, tying him with legends such as John McEnroe and Mats Wilander on the all-time list, and stands comfortably among the elite of the modern game.

What the Career Grand Slam Means

Achieving a Career Grand Slam — winning all four major tournaments at least once — has historically been one of tennis’s most revered accomplishments. Only eight male players in the Open Era have done it, including Rod Laver, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and Andre Agassi. Alcaraz did it at an age younger than any of them.

This feat symbolizes not only versatility across surfaces — from the clay of Roland Garros to the grass of Wimbledon and the hard courts of Flushing Meadows and Melbourne — but also mental toughness, consistency, and adaptability. It’s a rare and enduring mark of greatness.

Implications for Modern Tennis

1. A Passing of the Torch

Djokovic’s gracious praise for Alcaraz — calling him “historic” and “legendary” — underscores an emotional and symbolic moment: the balance of power in men’s tennis is shifting. While Djokovic remains a formidable force at age 38, Alcaraz’s win points toward a new era led by younger stars, with Alcaraz at the forefront.

Alcaraz’s victory denies Djokovic his own historic 25th Grand Slam and prevents him from becoming the oldest major champion in the Open Era. It’s a dramatic twist in the long narrative between tennis’s reigning and rising champions.

2. Evolution of the Game

Alcaraz embodies the evolution of tennis — blending power, creativity, speed, and strategy. His style is not purely baseline pounding nor strictly serve-and-volley; it’s a modern hybrid: athletic, unpredictable, versatile, and adaptive. This approach mirrors broader trends towards all-around excellence in the modern game.

3. Setting New Standards for Youth

Young players today now have a refreshed benchmark. Talents like Jannik Sinner, Holger Rune, and others in the ATP’s next wave see in Alcaraz a pathway to Grand Slam success that doesn’t require an entire decade of accumulation. His achievement pushes the boundaries of what young champions can aspire to do — and do quickly.

Alcaraz in Tennis History

By completing the Career Grand Slam earlier than any man in the Open Era, Alcaraz will be remembered alongside the sport’s most legendary figures. His Australian Open triumph will feature:

A record as the youngest Career Grand Slam winner in the Open Era.

Seven major titles by age 22 — among only the top ten men of all time.

A narrative of overcoming adversity: from tight semifinal battles to defeating generational champions.

What’s Next for Alcaraz?

With his 2026 season off to a dream start, the tennis world will watch to see how Alcaraz builds on this legacy. Will he maintain dominance across all surfaces? Can he challenge for the all-time major record? Only time will tell — but after Melbourne, one thing is clear: Carlos Alcaraz isn’t just a champion of his generation — he’s a defining figure in tennis history.

by Bob Stockton

Elena Rybakina has always been a player who lets her tennis do the talking — and after her stunning victory at the 2026 Australian Open, that voice has grown louder, richer, and unmistakably iconic. On a warm Saturday night in Melbourne, the Kazakh star claimed her second Grand Slam singles title, defeating world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in a thrilling 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 final that showcased both grit and grace.

More Than a Number: What This Win Means

For Rybakina, this wasn’t just a trophy — it was vindication. After winning Wimbledon in 2022 and then facing ups and downs on tour, she returned to the spotlight with a confidence and consistency that few expected. The Australian Open triumph is her second major, and it came by beating the world’s top two players on the way to the title — a rare feat in the modern era of women’s tennis.

This victory also marked a turnaround from heartbreak. Just three years earlier, Rybakina reached the final in Melbourne only to come up short. This time, she not only reversed that outcome but did so with calm precision, breaking into Sabalenka’s rhythm and closing out the match with an ace on her first championship point.

A Legacy of Resilience and Evolution

Rybakina’s game has always been defined by her powerful serve, strategic baseline play, and an unflappable demeanor under pressure. But what truly defines her legacy now is her resilience — the ability to bounce back after a period of relative quiet on the big stage and to do so with a performance that demonstrated maturity and tactical brilliance.

Her Australian Open win also signals her arrival as a true force across surfaces — not just a grass-court specialist. She climbed back into the top echelons of the WTA rankings and reminded the tennis world that when she’s at her best, she can dismantle the sport’s elite.

A Pioneer for Kazakhstan

Beyond personal accolades, Rybakina’s legacy is monumental for her country. She is a trailblazer for Kazakhstani tennis — the first woman from Kazakhstan to win the Australian Open singles title and only the second to capture multiple majors in the Open era. Her success has broadened the narrative of tennis excellence beyond traditional hotbeds of the sport, inspiring a new generation of players from Central Asia and beyond.

More Than Stats: A Growing Cultural Impact

Rybakina may not always be the loudest voice in the arena, but her influence resonates deeply. Her calm demeanor in high-stakes moments, her tactical approach to big matches, and the way she has cultivated her success without flashiness have all contributed to a unique place in the sport. She’s not just a champion; she’s a quiet ambassador for a new wave of global tennis talent.

Her career still has chapters to be written — with talk of potential world No. 1 aspirations and future Grand Slam pursuits already in the air — but already, Rybakina’s story is one of quiet tenacity meeting elite excellence.

Looking Ahead

As we reflect on this latest triumph, it’s clear that Rybakina’s legacy will be measured not just by the titles she’s won, but by the enduring mark she’s leaving on the game: a Kazakh champion, a formidable competitor against the sport’s best, and a model of what persistence, power, and poise can achieve on tennis’s grandest stages.

“Art vs. Arctics” – Lorenzo Musetti vs. Casper Ruud
