78th St. Heritage Farm Walking Tours

The WSU Extension Clark County Master Gardener Program will offer free guided tours of the 79-acre 78th Street Heritage Farm in Vancouver, 1919 N.E. 78th St. in the Hazel Dell area of Vancouver. Stroll the property — placed on the Washington Historic Register in 2012 — with docents and learn about the property’s history and role in horticulture education, agricultural research, food security and community enrichment. Tours involve prolonged standing and walking on uneven ground with some elevation change. Dates are 10 to 11:30 a.m. May 30, June 13 and June 27 or 6 to 7 p.m. June 16, 23 and 30. Advanced Competitive Bridge Bidding

The Vancouver Bridge Club, 6503 E. Mill Plain Blvd., Vancouver, will offer a six-week class for beginning and intermediate bridge players from 10 a.m. to noon March 5, 12, 19, 26, April 2 and 9, instructed by Michael Walker, a Ruby Life Master and an accredited ACBL and Better Bridge Instructor. Topics include opening bidding, slam bidding, takeout doubles, doubler’s rebid, balancing and other doubles. Each lesson will also include handouts and practice boards for hands-on experience. The cost is $10 per lesson or $50 for all six.

Tour Vancouver’s Marine Park Wastewater Treatment Facility from 10 to 11:30 a.m. June 4 and July 2. See what happens to all the water that goes down the drains. From a flush to laundry to washing dishes, all the water we use goes into underground pipes and to a treatment plant to be cleaned. Indoor-outdoor tours are suitable for ages 8 and older. Closed-toed shoes required for all participants. Expect to walk 0.75 miles on paved surfaces. Participants will encounter several stairways. Safety gear will be provided to participants. Expect to smell strong odors. Meet at the Water Resources Education Center, 4600 S.E. Columbia Way, Vancouver. Registration is required.
