I’ve been working on something fun. Last year I made my London tee for my trip to London and this year I decided to use the same concept of a destination knit to make tee for when I go to a New York for the NY Liberty game at the Barclays in Brooklyn.

Just like with my London Tee, I decided to use a bunch of Juniper Moon Farms Zooey and Summer Solstice yarn to pull this together. I loved their seafoam green color and it goes nicely with the NY Liberty team colors (I realized that when I knit a Vestank with these two colors last summer).

I used the Strange Brew pattern by TinCan Knits as my base and made a few modifications. I used charts from Doodle Decks, Knitovation and then made up a few of my own using Chart Minder. In order the motifs are:

Torches: they’re already a part of their logo.

Liberty (to mimic subway tile signs)

Basketball hoops

Basketballs

The Brooklyn Bridge

Elephants for their mascot Big Ellie

Cloud Nine for my favorite player Natasha Cloud

And Stew York for my other favorite Liberty player, Breanna Stewart

I knit this over six weeks while watching a lot of WNBA games. I plan to wear it next week when I go to the game with Kay of Modern Daily Knitting who is who encouraged me to be a Liberty fan. I’m sure I’ll share more online and on MDK about going to the game, but I at least wanted to share this great knit here too.

I realized for the last three years in spring, I’ve knit a Savory Knits pattern.

In 2023 I finished up my Pressed Flowers cardigan, which I love and want to make a second one in a bright palette because why not? Plus it was a fun and easy to memorize slip stitch pattern.

In 2024, I finished the Rosemary cardigan as a nice transitional piece in Berroco Remix and I love the deep shawl collar.

Well this year I was looking for a neutral colored sweater in white or cream that I could wear during this weird up and down weather period and when I saw the Basil cardigan I knew that’s what the Berroco Remix Chunky I bought was meant to become. The button band is part of the construction but you start with the garter stitch collar and then pick up stitches. I knit it on size 9 needles, so it moved pretty quickly. And this time I used Remix Chunky which is light but still gives enough warmth on those chilly spring events or when the weather takes a dip and you need a light layer.

The finished sweater needed seven buttons and I found six of these insanely cute dog buttons in my stash. I have no clue when I got them or where they came from (maybe a gift?) but I love them and new they would be perfect for this sweater. I made the seventh button at the bottom the same cream color as the sweater.

And based on how much Kiwi kept snuggling up to this sweater, I should probably use the leftover skein to make her. a little sweater too.

I wrote for MDK about the the yellow dinosaur I knit for my girlfriend’s four year old last year. It was one of those projects that I had so much fun creating because I was bringing to life something that a little kid dreamt up in her head and I remember being little and how amazing it is to get something you want, exactly the way you dreamed of it. So as I kept thinking about the little dinosaur and what I might want to make to go with it and I decided that I wanted to knit her a sweater covered in dinosaurs. And because I know what it’s like to be a little sister, her little brother got one too.

I decided I could use the Strange Brew sweater pattern and the Doodle Deck charts (I use the charts only) to make dinosaurs and other fun winter motifs to make a sweater. Since these were sweaters for little kids and they’re inherently messy, I decided Berroco Vintage Baby was the right yarn choice since you can machine wash and dry it, plus it was super soft when I washed it. I made the size 2-4 in the blue as the main color for little brother and the size 4-6 for big sister with the gray as the main color. I knew for Serena’s sweater the yellow dinosaur had to be first and in the beginning I contemplated just doing a dinosaur on the yoke and keeping it plain, but what’s the fun in that?! There needed to be dinosaurs everywhere!

Since I carried the dinosaurs down the body, I knew I didn’t want plain sleeves, but I also wasn’t trying to do colorwork dinosaurs on such narrow sleeves and my friend suggested I do colorblocks of stripes that matched the dinosaurs. It was a great idea and turned out so cute!

This was one of those projects that was so fun and made me happy to knit and I was on the phone with my girlfriend when she opened the box and showed her daughter and I got to hear her gasp of excitement.

Totally made my day and totally made this one of my favorite projects for 2025 so far. You can see sweater one and sweater two on Raverly as well.
