Our seasonal change and transition from summer into Autumn is in full swing, with notably shorter days, cooler nighttime temperatures, and rainier days. This seasonal change is welcome, but the change from Autumn to Winter is not, and that will likely begin in a month from now!! It will then be time to slip on the long underwear and batten down the hatches for the long, rough five-month ride through winter's frigid cold and stormy days until early April. Now, how's that for a positive start on a gloomy, cool, rainy Tuesday morning eh........

MONDAY AFTERNOON AT BAYFIELD'S SOUTH PIER

I finished power washing the front deck and front yard patio stones yesterday, and today, between rain showers, I started on the back deck. My electric power washer does an okay job, but probably not as good a job as a professional gas power washer. I can get a lot of the mold off the wood, but I think a more powerful washer might get into the wood itself and really dig out dirt and grime. Oh well, it are what it are and I will keep at this slow and tedious job until I git er done!!

SATURDAY NIGHTS RURAL SUNSET

With daylight becoming shorter with each passing day, I have to pay close attention to the earlier sunset time each evening. I nearly missed Saturday night's sunset again. Following my evening walk, I picked up my routine coffee to go in Clinton, and slowly made my way to Tower Hill Line for a star fix. However, gathering clouds had moved in, blocking out much of the night sky. No matter, with a mild southerly breeze, it was just nice to be standing out in the quiet stillness of the night. I stayed a long time there. Home again, I dozed off early. Maybe it was all that tedious pressure washing on Saturday.

GROANER'S CORNER:(( One Sunday morning, a priest wakes up and decides to go golfing. He calls his boss and says that he feels very sick, and won't be able to go to work. The priest drives about five to six hours away, so he doesn't bump into anyone he knows. The golf course is empty when he gets there. IT IS THAT TIME OF THE SEASON AGAIN......APPLES:))

Another picture-perfect early September morn. Home after my walk I immediately set about taking care of a number of outside tasks, with grass cutting and weed pulling being two of them. I normally don't put summer garden ornaments and things away until early October, but I felt like doing it this morning, and that is what I did. It's easier for me to do things when I feel like doing them and simultaneously have the energy to do them. I've learned that I had better take advantage of those two things and do as much as I can when the spirit moves me. Like the old saying goes, 'Strike While The Iron Is Hot'. Hey, I even cleaned a couple of inside windows. Well, fancy that:))

Friday evening, after my phone call to Aunt Jean in Florida, I slipped out the door, cranked up Subie, and headed east out of the Park. But not too far. Woodsy had sent me a Facebook article saying the International Space Station would be flying directly overhead from west to east at precisely 8:35. I turned left onto the second country road I came to, drove a few hundred yards, and stopped. Stepping out, I could see the sky was clear and free of clouds. I quickly looked to the west, and within a minute, there came the ISS right on time and right on track. There was no mistaking its brightness in the clear night sky, and it was clearly visible as it took the best part of two minutes to traverse the heavens from west to east. Probably one of the best ISS sightings I've experienced......And, on a different note, a few readers have said there seems to be some problems with my sidebar updating, etc. I wish I had an answer for that, but I don't. If I had to guess, I'd say it might be a Blogger problem because a few nights ago I couldn't upload any photos or anything to Groaner's Corner, Al's Doggy World, Meanings, or Al's Art Gallery. I tried everything I knew, including rebooting the computer several times. I went to bed thinking the end of my blog was probably at hand. The next day, when I tried again, everything worked perfectly. So, I don't know; it could very well be a temporary Blogger issue. I hope the sidebar problem resolves itself, and I'd appreciate knowing if it does.

Nothing of significance going on again today. Had to stop by Goderich's Dynacare Lab and leave a few vials of blood for an upcoming medical appointment with my Nurse Practitioner and Diabetes Lady. I hope that blood test today has the right numbers to keep me in the pre-diabetic range. Also, I'm hoping my blogging mojo will soon return.

Oh, how I love the sounds of crickets on both sides of the road as I stroll along. Following my walk, I slipped into Goderich for a few things and then took the long, slow scenic way home. Several readers have inquired about 'Old Lonesome', a horse on Porter's Hill Line that I would sometimes take pictures of as I went by. I haven't seen Old Lonesome for a while, and this morning on my way back from Goderich, I went by especially slow, but didn't see him. His pasture is totally overgrown with weeds, especially goldenrod.

I JUST NEEDED TO GO SOMEWHERE DIFFERENT FOR A CHANGE

I can't remember the last time I took myself for a looooong morning drive, but I did today. From about 10.00 a.m. this morning until four thirty this afternoon. Long drives weren't unusual for Pheebs and I, but in the last few years of her life we really shortened our drives, and now, without her, I maybe go around a few same old familiar country concessions, and that's about it. And, as often as not, I just come home after my morning walk. So today, I just needed to go somewhere different for a change, see some new scenery, listen to my music, try to clear my head, and take in all the picturesque scenery along the way. Blue skies with big white fluffy clouds brightened not only my travels, but my spirits as well.

My slow ambling travels took me to just west of St. Marys, Ontario, where I picked up a familiar country road following a river. I was reminded that the last time I drove that stretch was with my good buddy Richard, on one of our many Thursday morning coffee & muffin runs. But this morning, I had a destination in mind.

AN OLD IRON BRIDGE ONCE SPANNED THE RIVER HERE AND WE DROVE IT OFTEN WHEN WE LIVED AT THE WEENIE ROAST RANCH, ONLY A COUPLE MILES NORTH OF THIS LOCATION

It had been a few years since I had last driven by the old two-story brick farmhouse where Kelly and I had lived for seven years and called 'The Weenie Roast Ranch'. I knew the house and property would be in deplorable condition, but I just wanted to see it one last time.

THIS IS THE COUNTRY ROAD OUR DOG MAX, AND I WOULD WALK AT NIGHT UNDER THE STARS, AND THAT IS THE OLD WEENIE ROAST RANCH PEEKING OUT OF THE TREES

THAT'S THE SOUTH SIDE OF THE HOUSE WITH THE LIVING/DINING ROOM WINDOW TO THE LEFT AND THE TINY KITCHEN BEHIND THE WINDOW ON THE RIGHT

THE OLD TELEVISION DISH WE HAD INSTALLED IS STILL THERE, AND I DUG IN A FLOWER BED RIGHT WHERE THOSE FLOWERS ARE IN THE SUMMER 1996...KELLY PROBABLY PLANTED THOSE

WHEN WE LIVED HERE, I KEPT ALL THIS GRASS CUT, AND WE KEPT EVERYTHING LOOKING NEAT

BUTTERFLIES ACCOMPANYIED ON MY WALK AGAIN THIS MORNING

Friday's all-day cloud cover never did break up and dissipate, so there was no point in heading out to my starry night spot. Spent the evening on my YouTube channel. I don't know how the long Labor Day Weekend came up so fast, but it did. It seems only a few weeks ago that school kids were starting their summer holidays. I can only hope that the coming winter goes that fast.

SPOTTED ANOTHER TOUCH OF EARLY AUTUMN TODAY

Sunshine blazed through the window this morning, and with temps at 72°F and humidity substantially lower, I figured it would be a good morning (after my walk) to get some things done outside. I started with an overgrown Hydrangea plant in the backyard, and it didn't take long to fill my utility trailer with hydrangea branches and other yard waste. Fingers crossed for clear skies tonight. I definitely need some ethereal quiet time.

SARAH AND ADAM LIVE ABOUT 55 MILES SOUTHEAST OF THE PARK HERE

Upon leaving, Zeke tells his brother, 'When I get there, if I decide to buy the bull, I'll contact you to drive out after me and haul it home.' Zeke arrives at the stockyard, inspects the bull, and decides he wants to buy it. The man tells him that he will sell it for $599, no less. After paying him, he drives to the nearest town to send his brother a telegram to tell him the news. He walks into the telegraph office and says, 'I want to send a telegram to my brother telling him that I've bought a bull for our ranch. I need him to hitch the trailer to our pickup truck and drive out here so we can haul it home.' The telegraph operator explains that he'll be glad to help him, then adds, 'It's just 99 cents a word.' Well, after paying for the bull, Zeke only has $1 left. He realizes that he'll only be able to send his brother one word. After a few minutes of thinking, he nods and says, 'I want you to send him the word 'comfortable.' The operator shakes his head. I didn't let the morning's overcast sky and later rain deter my spirits. On my walking road, walking with head down, I heard a sudden low fluttering rumble off to my left. Quickly looking up, I saw a large flock of Canada Geese close by, all taking to the air from the harvested wheat field to the west. Once fully airborne, I estimated there were easily fifty or more birds, squawking wildly, and quickly forming up their flight patterns. I felt kinda bad for disturbing them. I guess that should teach me to walk with my head up.

For the past couple of years I've had an old and heavy leather recliner sitting in the carport. Many times I've looked at that recliner thinking, 'I should take that thing to the landfill site east of Holmesville one of these days'. Well, that day finally came and this morning that is exactly what I did. Instead of looking at again and again, I finally tossed it into the back of the Subaru and away I went. It felt good to have another 'mission accomplished'. I've got to do more positive things like that!! With that chair finally out of the way, it spurred me on to do a big clean-up in that corner of the carport, and that of course, led to a feeling of accomplishment which I think is important to many Seniors, and not just myself.

I WAS SURPRISED THESE CROWS DIDN'T FLY WHEN I DROVE BY

With both of my TVs in a state of frazzlement on Thursday, and my iPhone not connecting to my car's SiriusXM radio again, it was Andrew to the rescue. When he popped over last night, I switched on the main TV.....and what the heck!! It was working perfectly. Andrew figured it had been a Tuckersmith problem brought on by the double power outages from Wednesday night's severe storm. I was inclined to agree. I'm always too quick to blame myself when stuff doesn't work. With a couple of clicks, we had the sunroom TV working fine as well. Then, out to the car we went to see what rascally deeds the Gremlins were doing to my iPhone/XM connection. Well, as it turns out, there was only one Gremlin responsible for the problem. And that Gremlin was me!! It only took Andrew a matter of seconds to see what the problem was. An XM promotional ad on the phone's screen had me stumped, and despite a zillion times trying to get past that ad to my music, I was totally flummoxed. Andrew, in his patience, simply had me gently 'swipe up' the ad to reveal, below the words, something to the effect, 'if you already have SiriusXM, press continue. Did that, and with a quick email address and a verification code, I was once again logged into my favorite music channel. The Spa 746. But here's the rub!! I had this exact same problem a couple of months ago, and Andrew told me then about that 'swipe up ' solution. But do you think my memory retained that simple fix?? No Sireeeeeeee it didn't:((.

AFTER THE STORM iPhone

About 30 seconds after I posted my Wednesday blog late in the afternoon, the approaching storm was upon us, and our power went out. And it stayed out until 9:15 this morning. Went out again ten minutes later and then came back on again about forty minutes later. It has been on ever since. At the height of the storm with huge winds and driving rain, I heard what I thought was a tree come down. Thought I heard another one but looking around after the storm went through I think it was only part of a tree that came down on the street behind us. We were very fortunate here not to have any other damage. Other parts of Southern Ontario were not so lucky. There is widespread damage, especially to the southeast of us. To what extent I don't know yet, but I'm sure it will be on the news channels today. As soon as the storm cleared our area, I donned a rain jacket, hat, and a pair of work gloves, and hopped into the car to take a quick drive around the Park to see if any trees had come down on houses and people may need help. After all, we are all mainly Seniors in here. Aside from part of a tree on the street behind us, I didn't see any other damage, except for small limbs and branches down. It wasn't long before I saw Park owner Adam's little orange Bobcat clearing away that partially downed tree. With no power, I later drove into Bayfield and was happy to see the village still had power. I slipped into Tim Hortons and grabbed a coffee to go. Aside for some small branches down here and there, Bayfield looked in good shape. Because both my TVs are on the fritz at the moment, I have not seen any of the news reports about the extensive damage caused by yesterday's severe storm. I CAN SEE SKIES CLEARING ACROSS THE LAKE WAY OVER THERE IN THE STATE OF MICHIGAN

ON THE WAY HOME I ENCOUNTERED THIS BLOCKAGE AND HAD TO BACK UP AND TURN AROUND

Home again, and with no power, I checked on neighbor Monica, and she was doing okay. Back in the house, I went and gathered together a few candles and a couple of flashlights. Kelly had bought an emergency radio years ago, so I had that up and running too. It has batteries and can be hand-cranked if the batteries fail. For music, and with my wireless headphones on, I turned to my iPhone's music files and chose a folder named Al's Favs. How wonderful to have my very much most soft ambient music to listen to while I continued re-reading one of my Anne Of Green Gables books. Also, I hauled out my little plastic star projection thing, put some batteries in it, and in the darkness, I had colored stars all over my living room. I leisurely tipped back in my recliner and magically enjoyed the power outage.

TIPPED BACK IN MY RECLINER WITH MY MUSIC, I HAD THE MOON AND STARS ON MY CEILING AND WALLS.....IT WAS MAGIC

Of course, I was disappointed to wake up this morning to silence. The power was still off, and my iPhone had run out of juice. But, not to be deterred, I was soon in the car with the phone charging in a charger plugged into the cigarette lighter thingy. Although foggy, I headed straightaway for Tim Hortons coffee shop with fingers crossed that they would be open. They were. From there it was home again to finish my coffee. Still no power, so off to my walking road I went, and from there, half an hour later, headed back home. Still no power, but finally it did come back on, and I was able to start catching up on things.

GROANER'S CORNER::My grandfather worked in a blacksmith shop when he was a boy, and he used to tell me, when I was a little boy myself, how he had toughened himself up so he could stand the rigors of blacksmithing. One story was how he had developed his arm and shoulder muscles. He said he would stand outside behind the house and, with a 5-pound potato sack in each hand, he would extend his arms straight out to his sides and hold them there as long as he could. After a while, he tried 10-pound potato sacks, then 50-pound potato sacks. Finally, he got to where he could lift a 100-pound potato sack in each hand and hold his arms straight out for more than a full minute. Next, he started putting potatoes in the sacks.

My very overweight wife and I were enjoying a swim in the hotel pool when a little boy of about five got into trouble and appeared to be drowning. Luckily, my wife was there to save his life...She got out to inform the lifeguard, and the water level dropped enough for him to stand up!

HAD MYSELF IN QUITE A SCHMOZZLE THIS MORNING

We have a bad storm happening right now with tornado warnings so I am posting this early before the power goes out..... UPDATE:: After about 16 hours, our power was restored this morning at 9;15. We escaped most of the damage that occurred in parts of Southern Ontario, with only a few tree branches down and part of one tree. I do think there is a lot of damage elsewhere, though. The storm suddenly hit last night about 30 seconds after I quickly published my post. No reports of any tornadoes.

Finally, clear skies Tuesday evening, so I set off about 7:45. About a mile and half east on Bayfield River Road, I saw something odd on the road ahead. It was large and appeared to be black. As I drew closer, I saw it was a cow, and then I saw another couple of cows making their way down into the left side ditch. Slowing down I spotted half a dozen more cows at the end of a farm lane on the right-hand side. They too were making for the road. There was no oncoming traffic or anyone behind me, so I slowed right up and carefully turned into that farm lane, and headed for the house therein. A lady was already out, so I pulled up to tell her about the cows. She said she knew and had already called her son. I turned around and headed back down the farm lane, thinking I had better park the car and help the farm fella wrangle those cows off the road. I had no clue how to even begin to do something like that. Well, I needn't have worried because up the farm lane came the young farmer in a side-by-side ATV. He was dangling a white bucket out the side, and there right along behind him came all the cows following pretty much in single file. With him calling to the cows, 'Koe-boss' 'Koe-boss', I instinctively knew he must have had some cow food in that bucket. And not only that, but he obviously knew exactly what to do to get those cows quickly off the road. Needless to say, I didn't have to throw a saddle on anything, nor hunt me up a length of rope to make a lariat out of. Lassoing cattle isn't necessarily my strongest point anyway.

I JUST MADE IT TO MY WALKING ROAD IN TIME TO CATCH A QUICK GLIMPSE OF THE SETTING SUN PEEKING OUT FROM BEHIND A HEAVY CLOUD COVER ON THE HORIZON

Our power went off in the night but came back on again. However, when I woke up this morning, both the TV and internet were offline, so you can already see where I'm headed with my schmozzle. Not knowing if it was a Tuckersmith Communications (my internet provider) problem or just my setup here at home, I decided to wait until the Tuckersmith office was open in Bayfield. Besides, I had a prescription to drop off at Michaels Pharmasave, and it was in the same location as Tuckersmith. The lady at Tuckersmith had me go home and unplug (reboot) the Eero modem Box thingy, then wait thirty seconds and plug it back into the power outlet on my surge protector bar. Did that, and the little Eero light did not come on, meaning I was still not connected to the internet. I absolutely hate having to get on the phone and call tech support, but I was dead in the water and had no choice. I've had so many negative experiences dealing with people online whom I couldn't understand most of the time, waiting in a long phone queue to be heard, and then having to enter passwords, PIN numbers, birth dates, the color of my favorite dog, and the license plate number of my very first car. These are the reasons I switched from my Eastlink Internet Provider based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, to Tuckersmith Communications, based in Seaforth, Ontario, only a twenty-minute drive from here. And that change of internet providers paid off this morning. Right away, I was in touch with a nice lady speaking plain English, asking only, 'how may I help you'. She was very patient with me in getting everything up and running again. In fact, she had more patience with me than I generally have with myself. But still, getting everything going again was no easy task for me. I won't go into all the things I had to do, re-do, and do all over again because of my mistakes, but it was a lengthy process. Well, at least it seemed that way to me. And why was that?? Because I was the one making the mistakes. But, despite all that, little did the lady or I, know that there was another contributing factor. Unbeknownst at the time, the surge protector that everything is plugged into had been compromised. Anyway, we did get everything up and running somehow and I was briefly a happy camper. Except it didn't last long. I noticed my Bose sound bar was not powering up. So, I guess in unplugging the power cord, I somehow knocked out the internet and TV again. It's a wonder I still have any hair left because I sure felt like ripping it out by the handful. So, somewhere in the agonizing process of trying to get things up and running again, I made a discovery. Some of the power outlets in the surge protector didn't seem to be working. Or, they would work okay and then they wouldn't, and that kind of made sense as to why we had trouble earlier getting things going. I didn't want to call tech support back and have that poor lady painstakingly guide me through everything again, so I took a chance and unplugged everything from the surge protector and replaced it with a simple power bar. Before I introduced the power bar into the system, I plugged it into a power outlet in the washroom and then plugged my electric shaver into the seven outlets to make sure they all worked. They did. Back behind the TV I went and rehooked up everything. With great apprehension, I waited for things to cycle up. Everything did, and I was lucky enough to remember the programming procedures for getting both the TV and Internet back up and online again. But oh my, what a schmozzle it had been!! At least I now have a better chance of figuring this all out if it happens again. Well, that is if it happens again within the next twenty minutes because after that, my memory will have cleared itself of al helpful instructions:((

It was just too hot and humid for me to even think about venturing outside this afternoon so it was more time spent on my exercise bike watching interesting things on YouTube.

A Blast From Our Past:: Bloggers.....We're Quite A Bunch In my third year of blogging, I wrote a few paragraphs about bloggin in this post back in September of 2009, and it had to do with my thoughts about blogging at that time. The paragraphs are near the end of that daily blog, and begin with the words, 'Had an interesting email from a fellow Blogger friend'. Also, Facebook threw my some photos from our first year RVing to the southwest. Due to a water pump leak in our fifthwheel while doing an overnighter at Eastern Arizona's Patagonia Lake State Park we had to head for a repair facility in Tucson, Arizona. I was called Beaudry RV Park. While there for a few days, we decided to take the pick up truck and head off and head off to have a look around the west side of Tucson. One of the places we stopped at was, ?? This is where many of the old Western movies were made many years ago. Most of the original set burned down, but part of it had been rebuilt. Kelly and I wandered around looking at things and then all of a sudden we ended up in a gunfight on the street. Below are the photos took of that gunfight.

GROANER'S CORNER:(( While shopping in a food store, two nuns happened to pass by the beer, wine, and liquor section. One asked the other if she would like a beer. The second nun answered that, indeed, it would be very nice to have one, but that she would feel uncomfortable purchasing it. The first nun replied that she would handle it without a problem. She picked up a six-pack and took it to the cashier. The cashier was surprised, so the nun said, This is for washing our hair. Without blinking an eye, the cashier reached under the counter and put a package of pretzel sticks in the bag with the beer. The curlers are on me.

CLOUDED SULPHUR BUTTERFLIES ACCOMPANIED ME ON MY WALK THIS MORNING, AND I THINK THAT IS A KNAPWEED FLOWER IT IS ON

I always know when it's Tuesday morning. The almost pre-dawn rumbling and clunking of the garbage truck generally wakes me up. Clankety clunkety bang!! But that was okay; it wasn't raining for a change, and before too long, morning sunshine came streaming through the living room window. With my spirits lifted, I was soon out the door and off to my walking road. Humidity was at 97% and it felt a bit muggy. But that didn't deter the butterflies and grasshoppers alongside the road from accompanying me on my morning gravel road stroll.

I LUCKILY CAUGHT THIS LITTLE GUY IN FLIGHT

Had some errands to run in Goderich, so after my walk, off I went. Coffee to go at McD's, and down to the harbor I did go. Driving out to Rotary Cove, I saw a couple of people looking up over the lake, with one person pointing up at something. A quick glance skywards, and I saw a large four-engine plane, low, and heading shorewards. Stopped quick and cracked off a few shots as the C-30 'Hercules' flew straight overtop me. In my navy days, I once caught a ride on one of these from the naval base in Shearwater, Nova Scotia, to an airbase inTrenton, Ontario, and then hitchhiked 175 miles farther to my hometown of Tavistock, Ontario. (near Stratford) Back up out of the harbor this morning, I made a couple of stops in Goderich, with Walmart being one of them. I was home again shortly before noon, and amazingly enough.....the sun was still shining.

With temps at 80F and the humidity high, I spent most of the afternoon inside, with the exception of raking up a wheelbarrow of pine needles out behind the carport. Had it not been shady there, I would not have done that. Inside again, I spent some time on my exercise bike watching a few YouTube videos of interest. What a great and enjoyable way to educate oneself.

With rain still pounding on the roof in the night, I woke up thinking, 'I've got a lot of odd pieces of lumber stored away here, and maybe it would be a good idea for me to quickly throw some kind of an Ark together, and load up all the chipmunks, birds, frogs, and bunnies I can. Of course, with my carpentry skills, we would soon all be up to our necks in deep water, clinging to scraps of wood and floating debris. Luckily, the rain finally stopped, and I saw the first slivers of sunshine touch down on the living room floor shortly after 8 a.m.:)) But, oh dear, my in-house weather station said we had 99% humidity. And then the sun went bye-bye and the rain returned with a big 'Hello'!!

BETWEEN RAIN SHOWERS I SLIPPED OUT TO THE FRONT YARD LATE THIS AFTERNOON AND SNAPPED OFF A FEW QUICK PICS

A week or so ago, I think I made an incorrect assumption. I thought the Park owners were maybe (heavy on the maybe) extending White Cedar Drive to Bayfield River Road, giving the Park a third entrance. With Park owner Adam still digging up the area around the previous owner's house, I think something else is going on, but I am not about to make another assumption about what it is until I know for sure what's happening. The house had been 'For Sale,' but the for sale sign is gone now.

I know that sometimes in my blog, I probably go on too much about our past RVing days, and I think these past few rainy days have brought on another one of my laments, so bear with me here. Because of my love for the Great American Southwest and the fact that we spent 13 wonderful winters there (four of those years owning a house and property) and mostly boondocking our way around New Mexico, Arizona, California, and Utah, the ache in my heart and my desire to return someday is still with me. I am reminded daily of our travels when Facebook sends me sites and memories of so many places we had visited in the Southwest, and especially of our time spent in Arizona. It is uncanny how so many of those sites that Facebook sends, Kelly and I have been to. The memories of our time in those places tug at my heartstrings. With these rapidly aging days upon me now, I know it is unlikely I will ever see all of our old familiar and favorite beloved places again, but maybe that's best, because without Kelly, Pheebs, Max, Checkers, and little Cora, it just wouldn't be the same, and I think the sadness for me might be too overwhelming. And yet, I still long to return some day, to see the mountains and the desert landscape with its tall, stately Saguaros. The clear, starry night sky with its zillions of stars from mountaintop to mountaintop. The sunrises, the sunsets, the desert campfires. I long to see the dusty little desert towns we once knew so well. The camaraderie of fellow RV Bloggers, the friends we made, the twisting and jostling Jeep roads winding their way through the cactus, canyons, and scrub. We spent so many bumpity miles exploring old mine sites, ghost towns, and anything of interest we could find. And I so much miss our daily morning walks and rock scrambles. Every morning with the dogs, we were out walking. At our house in Congress, I would listen for the neighbor's roosters in the morning, the sharp calls of the Curvebilled Thrashers and Cactus Wrens outside the door, and the weebling Gambel's Quails along the fence line. And although not in Arizona, I do miss our many treks up California's Ghost Mountain in the Blair Valley to the Marshall South homestead. Always a special feeling place for me. Today, Facebook tossed me this site... 10 Walkable Towns In Arizona, and when I went down the list, Kelly and I had been to nine out of ten and the tenth one 'Williams' Arizona, we had driven by on I-40 probably half a dozen times while either coming from or going to other parts of Arizona, and especially our house in Congress. So many stories and so many memories of all these places overwhelm my mind. By the way, you can access all my posts from the 'Blog Archive' gadget on my right-hand sidebar. 90% of our 13 years of RV travels are there, almost from start to definite finish. Okay, I will try to hold off on any more Southwest laments for a while. Maybe till the snow flies, when I'm sure at some point I'll not be able to help myself again.

Well, here it is, the last day of August already. It's unofficially the last day of summer. Next week, the kids will be back to school. The first few touches of Autumn may begin to appear along the tree lines; nights are already cooler, and on my walk between rain showers this morning I was accompanied by tiny grasshoppers and serenaded by crickets along the roadside and in the fields. The days are already noticeably shorter, and night skies are gradually becoming a touch clearer in the cooler air. It will soon be time to get my list out for loading up the RV and...................Oh ya, I forgot:((

Rain came in the night and continued its wetness throughout the whole entire day, casting a gloomy pall over everything outside. Not my kind of day, so I had to dig deep and be thankful it wasn't snow. Never set foot out the door except to toss a few peanuts out for the poor little rain-soaked chipmunks. I hauled my exercise bike (it has wheels) out of the sunroom to the living room where I had access to my YouTube channel on the large screen TV. I climbed aboard the bike and pedaled my way through a number of interesting YouTube things, with the main one being a two-hour documentary/interview with Bill Medley, who many will remember as the tall bass singer from the singing duo, The Righteous Brothers. It was a difficult life, and especially so after his long-time singing partner, Bobby Hatfield, passed away in 2003. I always find documentaries on musicians entertaining, and I enjoy hearing all the backstories of how everything came about in their musical careers. And Bill Medley has a lot of backstories. The interviewer is Mike Moreno, and the interview is a two-parter, with the second part being an interview with Bill's new singing partner for the past eleven years or so. His name is Bucky Heard, and his story is equally fascinating and filled with more entertaining and amusing backstories. The documentary wraps up with both Bill and Bucky together talking about their lives, their future, their friendship, and their professional admiration for each other. Bill Medley is eighty-six now and shows no signs of slowing down. The Righteous Brothers are still performing for sold-out audiences. And did you know that The Righteous Brothers opened for The Beatles on the Beatles' very first United States tour way back in February of 1964.

It has been a while since I last expressed my gratitude to all my Bayfield Bunch readers, who have stuck with me over the years, and the newer folks who have recently stumbled across my blog. As I've said over and over through the years, if it wasn't for all of you readers supporting my musings, moods, silliness, and daily weather grumbles, there would be no blog. When occasionally looking at my Blogger Statistics, it is beyond my understanding how and why my blog's viewership has grown the way it has. Of course, like an aging old dinosaur, it has been up and running for two decades now, but I have particularly noticed the number of 'hits' on the blog has been substantially increasing over this past year. I don't know who all you inquisitively good people are, but from my heart I say thank you for enabling me to continue my beloved hobbies of writing, photography, and travel, although my travels over the past seven years or so have been greatly curtailed since our previously adventurous RV days. So, before I go off on a long ramble, let me wrap this post up by simply saying, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you:))

On my iPhone 17Pro, when I go to the Bayfield Bunch, it doesn't show the sidebar. However, if I scroll to the bottom of the post in the "fine print" it shows "View web version." By clicking on that, it brings up the blog again with the side bar. Take care'. Thursday:: On my walk this sullen-looking morning, I happened to look at my watch and saw that it was 9:30. Being Thursday, I instantly thought of my good buddy Richard, who passed away nearly a year and a half ago. It was Thursday mornings, every second Thursday of the month at exactly 9.30 a.m sharp; whether I was driving or he was, we would head out on our usual two-hour country road drives with coffee and carrot muffins in hand. Our conversations were always non-stop and enjoyably meaningful. We knew each other for 50 years, and I miss my old friend dearly........It was after this that my day slid off the rails and went downhill. This alone wouldn't have caused my day to stumble, but combined with the weight of a few other things, it just became too heavy, and down I went. I couldn't even talk myself into heading out Thursday night for the Moon's eclipse, and it sounds like I missed a good one. My apologies to readers that I didn't think to let them know that I hadn't put out a post.

Friday:: A beautiful day with big white clouds leisurely floating across a deep blue sky. Feeling much better than the previous day, I was actually able to get a few tree limbs sawed up and also remove a bunch of troubling pine needles from one of the eavestroughs. Relaxing on my front porch later in the afternoon, I also finished re-reading another book in the Anne of Green Gables series, and I'm well into the next one. Later, at the desktop computer, editing a few photos, I thought I heard a noise behind me in the hall. Oh no, I thought, did I leave the patio door open, and there's now a whole gol darn gang of chipmunks in the house?? I apprehensively turned around in my chair, and there was Woodsy with two Tim Hortons coffees in hand as well as two donuts. One was for me, and the other, for neighbor Monica across the road. Woodsy (Lorraine) is always thinking of others. I wished I had some of her natural ability. Hadn't seen her for a couple of weeks, so it was a very pleasant surprise, and I immediately felt better. I had been working away on my Friday post, but with a lot to talk about, and my Friday night phone call with Aunt Jean, the day just kinda ran out of hours for me My apologies again to readers. Woodsy had to return to Stratford later Friday evening, but will be back sometime next week, and we'll dust off the E-Bikes again and leave some more rubber on the road.

Saturday:: Another very welcome sunny morning. The season's change is very evident, with much cooler nights already upon us, along with ever-earlier sunsets. With neighbor Monica's Subaru Outback, I drove her to Goderich's Walmart this morning at eleven and waited while she picked up some groceries.

Feeling better about things today, I was once again back on track and hoping for clear skies tonight, but the afternoon cloud cover persisted, and with rain threatening this evening, I never made it out. Brewed me up a hot cup of coffee and spent a relaxing evening watching things of interest on my YouTube channel. I especially enjoy the music-oriented documentaries I find on there as well.

I have noticed on my phone, as well as other people's phones, that when 'The Bayfield Bunch' site is accessed, it does not show the sidebar on the right-hand side of my blog. I wonder how many readers know that there is an informative sidebar there. On that sidebar, I have many things, like a search bar for finding posts with keywords, all my blogs since 2007 are accessible in an 'Archive' section. There is a 'live feed' gadget showing how often the blog is being visited and where those visits are coming from. I have a lot of fellow Blogger's links listed there. ANOTHER BEAUTIFUL LATE AUGUST MORNING OVER A RIPENING BEAN FIELD

Luckily, after a few wispy clouds on Tuesday evening, skies cleared, and it was a relaxing walk I had on my always peaceful country road. Later, I stopped for a while at my night-sky spot before heading home. For me, it was another summer evening well spent.

THE NEARLY FULL MOON EMERGING FROM A LOW CLOUD BAND

Our days are beautiful now that daytime temperatures have lessened and the heavy humidity has greatly diminished. Took advantage of that this morning and whisked myself around, taking care of errands. Three Bayfield stops, with the first one being birdseed at Porter's Hill Wild Bird Seed Company. Next was Michael's Pharmacy to drop off a prescription, and a stop at Tuckersmith Communications to clear up a small billing problem. Not slowing down, I then headed for Goderich to grab three new boxes of #1 coffee filters at Home Hardware. From there, and with a McD's coffee in hand, it was down to the harbor and beach areas to try my luck at some candid drive-by photos. After a stop at Walmart for a few things, I returned a digital clock to the Canadian Tire Store. A power outage overnight Monday knocked out the living room digital clock that sits by the TV. It had big red numbers that I could easily see. The new clock had big blue numbers, but with my compromised eyes, I just couldn't see them. I did find a cheaper clock at Walmart with red digital numbers that I can see just fine.

With sunshine beaming through the living room window first thing this morning, it picked up my spirits, and I was soon out the door to partake in its healing warmth. I can't imagine living anywhere that does not have a lot of sunlight. I might not do well in England, and that's maybe why my grandmother on my father's side of the family moved to Canada probably a century ago.

I slipped out to the edge of the Park Sunday night and looked up. Too cloudy. Came back home, and that was it for that. A lot of rain in the night, and I awoke to a gloomy-looking morning. The uninspiring rain continued on and off throughout the rest of the day:((

Because of my love and interest in the American Southwest, and especially Arizona, where we once owned a house on Ghost Town Road, in Congress, I always click on Facebook sites that have to do with the Southwest. It is always very nostalgic for me to see so many places featured that Kelly and I once travelled to and hung out at. This morning I clicked on this one: Congress $18 Million In Gold And Then Silence. Our house and property were less than two miles from this mine site. There are two old cemeteries out there near where the old town once stood. I have taken many photos in that area between 2012 and 2016 when we sold the house. I miss our RVing days so much, and if by a miracle I was ever able to return someday, I know it would never be the same as when The Bayfield Bunch once all travelled together and had so many adventures and exciting times.....Coincidentally, as I was writing this paragraph, Facebook tossed me a nearly twenty-year-old photo of me sitting at a park bench with an open laptop. I instantly remembered the photo and the circumstances around it. This was at the end of our very first day of what would turn out to be thirteen years of Snowbirding to the Great American Southwest. We had a Rockwood Fifth Wheel and A GMC 250 Sierra pick-up truck. It was at the end of our first long driving day from Bayfield, and we had found a little Park somewhere just off I-69 around Muncie, Indiana, I think. And of course, we had our loyal doggy guys, Max, Checkers, and little Cora with us, and that made us The Bayfield Bunch. In the photo, Kelly had been inside fixing us up some supper, but came out to take a photo of me at the picnic table. I am sitting there writing about the day's events with our very first-ever laptop computer. And hey, I bet I started my post off talking about the weather. Geeezzz, what are the chances, eh. At that time, I wasn't on the Blogger blogsite because I didn't know about that format. In those early days, I uploaded my posts onto a site that Microsoft had at that time called 'My Space'. That Microsoft site eventually went the way of the DoDo Bird, and I then caught on to the Blogger format in the summer of 2007. I think somewhere in my files I may very well still have my posts from that site detailing our very first Southwest RV trip. We got as far west as Quartzsite, Arizona, that first time with our Fifth Wheel, plus a day trip in our Hyundai Santa Fe toad to Blyth, California. Oh my, we learned so much from that first year trip, and little did we two Newbies know that we had hardly even scratched the surface of what we were about to learn. Thinking we might be able to do three years of this, five at the most, we never dreamed we would still be RV Snowbirding for well over a dozen years. And in those years we went through one pickup truck, one Fifth Wheel, two Class A Motorhomes, and three Class C Motorhomes. Also, on Facebook today I saw a picture of Wickenburg, Arizona, which brought another flood of memories back. In the picture, you can see the Wickenburg train station on the left. In 2014, after Kelly was diagnosed with liver disease, and we were at our house in Congress for the winter months, sixteen miles north of Wickenburg, we would drive to Wickenburg, where Kelly routinely had to have her blood tested and monitored in a little place across from the train station along that street somewhere. Also, in the photo you see mountains in the background. They are the Weaver Mountains, and our place was at the foot of those mountains, 'where the desert breeze meets the mountain air'. However, the picture itself is deceiving, and I explain why in the caption of the second photo below.

Friday:: Another beautiful summer's morn for a walk with the butterflies, the warming sun, the sounds of crickets along the roadside, and a soft, gentle breeze under clear blue skies to make it a perfect morning. After my walk, I came straight home and got myself busy. Wanting the place to look nice for my special guests today, I scurried about cleaning up this, rearranging that, and getting things all ship-shape. Outside, the day before, I had mowed the lawn, whacked a bunch of weeds, and blown all the sunburst locust leaves and peanut shells off the front porch and deck. I haven't been able to convince the Chipmunks not to eat their peanuts on the porch. I also cleaned the pond pump and set out a couple more chairs for Friday. It was around 6 p.m. when Kelly's oldest twin daughter, Sabra, youngest son Ben, his two boys, Kye and Darian; (Sp) and Kelly's granddaughter, Ella rolled in. Readers will remember 'little' Ella from my posts over the past years. Well, would you believe it, little Ella is 13 years old now and closing in on 6' tall. She flew all the way from Spain to Canada all by herself around the beginning of August. She flies back to Spain on August 29th. She has come for summer holidays and is staying at Sabras. Ella's mom and dad, Rebecca (Kelly's youngest daughter) and her husband Ricardo, (in Spain) arranged a special security package with the airline, whereupon airline personnel and attendants would keep an especially close eye on Ella's well-being by assisting Ella along in her long journey. Sabra and Ella had come to Goderich earlier Thursday and booked into the Harmony Inn Motel in Goderich. Ben and his boys had arrived later and also booked into the motel. All five of them did manage to spend some time at the beach both Thursday and Friday. When they came here late Friday afternoon, they came bearing three large pizzas, and with the weather being nice, we all sat out on the front porch for the next couple of hours and had ourselves a great visit. The last time I had seen Sabra was a little over a year ago when she and sister Rebecca came here and spent a couple of days going through their Mom's stuff. The last time I had seen Ben was the day of Kelly's passing at the Huron Hospice Residence west of Clinton. And it had been well over a year since I had last seen Ella and Ben's boys, Kye and Darien. And of course, the biggest surprise was how much Ella had grown, as well as Ben's oldest son, Darien. We all had a great time catching up on everything, and I especially enjoyed our conversation and remembrances of Kelly. There were tears. And then, all too soon, it was time to say our goodbyes. Parting is always sad, and I knew chances of seeing them again were iffy at best. Especially Ella, with her life now in Spain. One of the first things I said to Ella when she got out of the car was, I thought I'd never see you again, and my parting words to her were, I hope to see you again someday. She gave me a lingering, heartfelt hug, and then they were gone..........

Feeling emotional after the visit, I was soon in the car and headed out to my walking road. I noted that the mown alfalfa field had already been cleaned up and the field fertilized. With a weather front pushing a large cloud front in from the west, there wasn't any sunset. Following my deep-in-thought walk, I headed into Clinton's Tim Hortons and picked up a coffee and a donut to go and slowly made my way west to my hilltop night sky spot. Before reaching there, I watched the large incoming cloud front slowly overtake the night's nearly three-quarter moon. I backed into my spot and turned the car off. Knowing there were no stars or moon to see, I pulled out my phone to have a look at the photos of my visitors I had just taken an hour earlier. And it was while looking at the pictures and doing some editing of these photos that something strange occurred. I heard a faint sound to my right. I had both my front windows down and music playing softly. The night was as black as could be, with no Moon or starlight visible, and I always cover up the dash lights glowing from the Subaru's entertainment screen. I quickly determined the sound in the darkness was right beside me, and it sounded like crinkling paper. Had something come in through the open window? The crinkling stopped, and with nerves on edge, I slowly reached up for one of two dome lights above the front seat area. With my head turned, looking into the blackness, fearful of what I might see on the front seat, I pressed the light switch, not knowing what might be there. And of course there was nothing there, but yes, there was. The empty bag that my donut had come in lay just where I had left it on the front seat. Something, or somebody, had crinkled that bag, and I thought of Kelly right away, and knew it was her. Readers may remember me writing about how, for the first few days, weeks, and a month or so after Kelly's passing, strange and unexplainable things had happened. I felt at the time that they were definite signs of Kelly's presence. And, here over a year later, it happened again. I believe it was the direct result of Kelly's son Ben, daughter Sabra, and three of her grandchildren visiting me today. There is no other explanation. Thank you, Kelly......... I miss you dearly.

FRIDAY NIGHT'S MOON ABOUT TO BE OVERTAKEN BY THE ADVANCING CLOUD COVER

Saturday:: Woke up to a cloudy morning and heard my first rumble of distant thunder at 9:25. Minutes later, the rain came down in buckets. It became so dark out that the night lights in the front yard came on. Water pooled everywhere and lightning flashed. It was kind of reminiscent of a day fifteen years ago when, on August 21st, Goderich sustained major damage from an EF3 tornado. One man lost his life down in the harbor at the salt mine, 37 people were injured, and the damage was estimated at $130 million dollars at the time. You can see my aftermath tornado damage photos here.....The Goderich EF3 Tornado Damage.....The rest of today remained mostly overcast, with random sun splashes traveling across the rain-sodden landscape. I felt sorry for all the folks who had undoubtedly worked hard for the annual Zurich Bean Festival today. I think it might have been rained out last year as well. Zurich is the little village where we first met the Pheebs slightly over twenty-five years ago.

THIS IS THE THIRD SUMMER CUTTING FOR THIS ALFALFA FIELD

I was surprised when arriving at my walking spot this morning to see that the alfalfa field on the east side of the road had once again been cut. That's the third cutting of that alfalfa crop this summer.

THE LAST CUTTING OF THIS FIELD WAS BALED AND WRAPPED

Wednesday evening, with a big half Moon hanging in the southern sky, casting its glow across the darkened landscape, it wasn't a good night for stargazing, but I was still out there at my night sky spot after my walk. I once again enjoyed listening to the Crickets, but with a sadness in my heart. I don't know where it came from, but it just came. Fortunately, when I woke up this morning, the sadness had dissipated, and it was the beginning of a new day. Luckily, this time, I was able to locate my Giddy-Up-Go button and quickly press it. I was instantly turbo-charged for the rest of the day and buzzed about getting all the things done that I had set aside for the previous few days.

With our nighttime temps now dropping into the mid-fifties, I was compelled to turn on the furnace this morning for a short while to take the chill out of the air.

The pharmacist answers, Yes.
Jacob: We're about to get married. Do you sell heart medication?
Pharmacist: Of course we do.
Jacob: How about medicine for circulation?
Pharmacist: All kinds.
Jacob: Medicine for rheumatism and scoliosis?
Pharmacist: Definitely.

Pharmacist: Yes, a large variety. The works.
