This is not one of those grills that is difficult to maintain, that uses cheap materials that rust within a short time and just adds up costs of maintenance after using it a while. To put it in one sentence, the Broil King Signet 90 is your complete outdoor grill system.

Features To Expect

Out of the box and once you’ve set it up you will realize that this is a fairly large sized gas grill. Definitely something I didn’t expect first hand when I got it a couple of month ago. This is what you should expect in terms of features of the Broil King Signet 90:

• It is mostly made of stainless steel. The oven is made of Therma-Cast^™ aluminum with stainless steel wrap
• Premium rotisserie kit to enjoy cooking chicken or turkey on your grill.
• Stainless steel sideburners, rotisserie burner and Dual Tube burner system
• Heavy duty porcelain coated cast iron cooking grates
• A total cooking surface of about 635 square inches + total primary cooking space of 400 square inch. Enough to cook a huge feast!

As you can see, this is a bit list of features that comes with the Signet 90 but there is so much more to discover with this machine. I can tell you that this is a darn good grill after using it for a few months.

Features That I Like

This is a grill that actually does these things (PROS):

• Heats surprisingly evenly
• Heats up really quick to temperatures of almost 700 degrees celsius! NO KIDDING
• Large and generous cooking space, more generous than a Weber equivalent to this.
• Large enough area to cook your food with indirect heat. Much more efficent if you want to cook this way compared to other models.
• Heavy duty rear rotisserie
• Easy to assemble components
• Nice overall appearance.
• Quality materials that will last a long time and put a smile on your face
• The Dual Tube burners area really cool feature.
• Evenly distributes the flow of gas to the whole grill

Features That You Might Not Like

I wouldn’t say that the features here are really bad but no gas grill is 100% perfect.

Problems you might find with this grill are (CONS):

• Probably difficult to clean cast iron cooking grates
• Less efficient compared to a Weber gas grill
• Some parts of the grill construction uses rather thin metal sheets. In my opinion, just be careful when handling to avoid easy denting.

This grill is definitely more for someone who wants a great alternative to a great functioning grill without the expensive price tag.

Seriously, the Broil King Signet 90 is a very good grill considering the price you pay. I can assure you for all the features you get from it, you are certainly not paying premium price unlike most other Weber grills. It heats evenly, has many great features and it can cook a storm! Best of all it is really easy to use although assembling might take approximately 2 hours. But overall, this is a great grill to own.

So you might be wondering why a portable grill can be so heavy?

Well, for starters, this model is not your cheap thin metal constructed portable grill like some other grills on the market. It is tough looking and sturdy looking to last a while. It is heavy but NOT VERY HEAVY. It is still within the weight range of other portable grills in the market.

Is it easy to setup?

It is also really easy to use and setup. You’ll be pleased to know that this is a porcelain enameled cooking grill. So expect, good heat efficiency and searing grill marks on your steaks and chicken fillets! It also heats up really quick so be careful not to burn you food.

What I Like About This Grill

1. Cooks Fast and Real Hot!

With 12,000 BTUs of total output, the Porta-Chef S certainly kills it! It really grills your meat to perfection and gives that delightful looking seared marks in your steak. Be careful of the Porta-Chef S, it definitely gets hot real quick and is also very efficient suprisingly. The grill lid closes well and traps heat. This ensures your meals cook fast but also you have got to be careful of getting them overcooked. The built-in temperature tells you when things get really hot quickly and I’ve tested its accuracy and I can say that this thing works damn well.

2. Sturdy Construction and Quality Materials

Like I said earlier, the Porta-Chef is portable but still on the heavy side. But I can tell you, this thing is solid looking. The stainless steel look not only gives it a professional look but together with its 4 legs, you wouldn’t even think that it is a portable grill but in fact it is. Curious about the weight? It is about 22 pounds. As for the materials, if you’ve read through the features it is made of mostly stainless steel but it is certainly not those that is thick and heavy otherwise you wouldn’t call it a portable gas grill anymore.

What I Think Could Be Done To Improve It

1. Make It Lighter

The reason why the Weber Q100 is still my favourite portable grill is because it is lightweight, grills well and is great looking. I think Broil King should think of making this grill lighter. I’m not sure what can be done, although I do think that you sacrifice that part for a quality portable grill.

2. A Sideburner Perhaps?

The Porta-Chef S comes with a single sideburner which is a good thing to cook but the only problem is, I cannot have one part of my grill where it can grill just a bit slower. A sideburner would be a good addition to this model in my opinion.

The point is not the money you are paying for this grill but rather the significant improvements you get with this model.

The Best Gas Grill At Its Package and Price

Honestly, I haven’t come across a better design grill than the Genesis S-330 gas grill. It is quite simply a great grill for the size, price and package. In fact, Weber has made quite significant improvements with the way burners are arranged and the quality of materials used makes it very durable. I can crank it to high heat and it heats evenly on every square inch. For those who know a little bit about heat output, 38 000 BTUs isn’t a lot from a gas grill of this size. In fact, it is quite low but Weber has come up with a very heat efficient design to prevent heat from escaping while trapping enough to ensure a great grilling experience. The three main burners are the one powering the Genesis S-330. Having said that, it does take a bit longer to heat up compared to other grills of this size but you can still get great searing heat from its sear burners.

Weber has also made this grill for indirect cooking. At the price and package, this gas grill is great for cooking directly and indirectly without wasting too much fuel.

The design also reduces flare ups and grease built up too. At least I don’t have to worry too much about cleaning it too often :S

The materials used here also allow it to last a much longer time. Although there are mixed grades of stainless steel and aluminum it definitely outlast most other gas grills in the market including its cheaper Weber Spirit models. However, compared to its non-stainless steel version, the Weber Genesis E-330, there won’t be any difference in lifespan and cooking quality.

For the price you pay, you can expect your Napoleon gas grill to last for years to come. This model is slightly cheaper as it is Chinese made but still uses quality materials. Bear in mind the “Mirage” line of Napoleon grills are also cheaper. It is also lighter as a result. You can also expect generous cooking space plus many more optional extras you can add on ( which of course adds to the overall cost). Things like the propane tank, cover, and rotisserie kit are sold separately.

What Features Stand Out In The Napoleon Mirage M485RB?

Quality Grill In General

For a grill at this price, you should expect quality. Napoleon certainly has incorporated stainless steel tubular burners in this model, heavy stainless steel rod cooking grates and a mixed stainless steel and aluminum construct in the Mirage M485RB. You can expect this grill to last a long time and cook really well. This grill is certainly one that can withstand intense heat and grilling for a long time. The only problem that you might find is the cabinet doors are a bit poorer in quality. There are a bit lighter and some models don’t tend to close as snugly.

Great Efficiency and Heating

This is a large grill alright and the 675 square inches of cooking space gives you plenty of room to grill to your heart’s content. The heavy stainless steel cooking grates and stainless steel tubular burners will definitely outlast most other gas grills. The total output of 48,000 BTU from the main burners and 16,000 BTU stainless steel tubular burners will give you ample heat to cook a storm. There is an option to have a rotisserie infrared burner but it needs to be purchased separately.

Oh and you will love the large gas grill lid. It definitely keeps the heat in and cook your meals well. Indirect cooking and direct cooking is also great on the Napoleon Mirage M485RB.

I wouldn’t say that the heating is even all over though. The insulation is good but it certainly does not retain heat as well as I would expect for a gas grill of this price.

Something That You Should Think About

Price vs Features

Although Napoleon gas grills doesn’t come cheap, I would say that this particular Mirage model is a little short on features. Some features like the rotisserie kit needs to be purchased separately. I’m not sure I would spend extra on it. Perhaps it could. I think I would still go for a Weber in that respect, although some Genesis and Summit models are pretty darn expensive with all the features added in.

Finally…

The Napoleon Mirage M485RB isn’t a bad grill. But certainly, if given a choice, I would go for a Spirit as I prefer more features to price. The good thing about the Napoleon is it a really nice looking grill with that professional feel. It also has plenty of grilling space and it certainly has quality built into it. For these few points, I think it is definitely still worth getting it.

My Only Problem With The Ultra Chef 405 and Other Ultra Chef Series

The MAIN problem with the Ultra Chef Series is that the frame is pretty flimsy despite the stainless steel built. I don’t doubt the quality of the actual grill itself but the frame supporting it seems a bit weak and unsteady. In general, this grill does not use the best of materials but I would think that this helps to move the grill easier and lower its price by just a little.

My Final Verdict With The Ultra Chef 405 Gas Grill

What you pay is what you get here and despite being an entry level model, it grills really well and produces nice searing marks on your steak thanks to its good quality cooking grates. Also, flare ups are much less in this model.

Napoleon has sacrificed the materials for good grilling quality in this grill. No doubt the stainless steel burners and stainless steel infrared burners will last longer, require less care and give you great grilling results. I would say that this is one of the best gas grills at this price that comes with more than enough features to impress your guests and your taste bud.

This portable Weber grill is decent looking and it has that “Weber” look to it. You will not mistaken this grill for any other brands.  If you are thinking of getting this for any of your camping, hiking or tailgating trips, this is what you will get out of the box:

• Cast aluminum lid and body, making it lightweight and easy to bring around – if you are curious about the weight, it weighs approximaltey, 31 pounds (Not the lightest I must say…).
• Durable design that will definitely last a long time. This thing won’t dent easily
• A decent sized cooking area of 189 square inches
• Cooking area uses porcelain coated cast iron cooking grates – excellent heating and grilling
• Burner used here are made of stianless steel and operates at anoutput of 8.500 BTUs. Not much but Weber has made its design heat efficient enough to use less gas, so more savings on your gas tank!
• This model uses wide temperature Control Valve and electronic ignition (push button piezoelectric).
• *The new and improved Version has a taller lid. (Most customers who own the older model were complaining of a short lid.)
• Two foldable side tables to place your plate or whatever cooking utensil you can think of.
• NO PROPANE TANK – so please get one yourself!

I won’t go through more features here but I will give my own personal opinion after using this grill for a while.

Things I Like About This Grill

1. Excellent Grilling, Good Heat Efficiency

I know I must have said this a lot but I wouldn’t say it if it wasn’t true, won’t I? The truth is this gas grill certainly grills fantastic T bones, sirloin steaks, corns, fish, chicken… you name it. It gives that nice searing marks and it has enough room to cook for a max of 4 people to eat in one sitting( if the portion is small-med) or a max of 2 (if the portion is large). It also depends on the size of meat you are cooking. Oh the seared marks are also excellent on the Weber Q120.

The porcelain coated cast iron cooking grates is the best to use in terms of heat energy transfer. I would say, that it won’t cook for a large group of people.

I’ve also compared the amount of gas it used compared to my old Char Broil and it certainly beats it flat.I also love the electronic ignition feature. All you got to do is “push the button” and you’ve got your grill up and running instantly!

2. Portability

In terms of portability, the Weber Q120 is easy to move and setup. Some of you might wanna invest in a Weber Q rolling cart if you want more mobility but its entirely up to you.

BUT…At 31 pounds, it is certainly NOT the lightest and most portable gas grill around. The Fuego Element Portable weighs only 15 pounds and I would say that the Fuego Element beats the Weber Q120 flat. I would definitely choose to bring the Fuego element instead for my hiking and camping trips as it is lighter and easy to carry around thanks to its briefcase concept design.

3. Easy To Use

One of the things that I like about Weber grills is that they are easy to use and you really don’t need to own a gas grill to learn how to use it. The push button piezoelectic electronic ignition is one of the best things to have here. All you got to do is own one, get a propane gas tank attached to it and play around with the control valves and start grilling!

My Final Verdict

I would say that the Weber Q120 is a great grill if you look past the weight issue. Some won’t even mind carrying around 31 pounds of grilling equipment as long as the grillin experience is excellent. Some would even prefer it to be heavy to make them feel like they are having a quality product. The only think I like to comment is that it is a bit expensive for a portable grill. I think this is most likely due to the fact that this grill is good quality and is made by Weber themselves.

Overall, the Weber Q120 makes it to my Top 5 List of Most Wanted Portable grills. Ok, that’s enough for today.

In our review here, this is what we think of the Solaire Anywhere as a whole. These are the features:

Features of The Solaire Anywhere – Good Portability, Energy Efficient and Really Powerful!

This infrared portable gas grill by Solaire is probably one of the most portable gas grills around. And it really packs a punch for its size. This 20 lbs infrared grill gives a total output of 14,000 BTU; more than any other portable gas grill around of this size. And even if there is more, why do you need too much? Anyway, you’ll be pleased to know that it is made of high quality stainless steel which is not those cheap thin stainless steel ones. There is another option of getting an even higher quality stainless steel grade that can tolerate seawater ( the 316 one for $400)  but that is entirely up to you. With its weight and size you can take it almost anyway you want to without breaking a sweat.

You get a lot of quality, power and durability at the price you pay for this Solaire Anywhere infrared grill. It is also the only one that can be converted into a portable natural gas grill. The one thing that might put you off is the small cooking area of approximately 155 square inches and the price. It is also rather difficult to clean as the intense heat chars drippings easily. It is also rather rectanglish… and it doesn’t look all that pretty on the outside. But hey! what matters is the parts inside isn’t it?

The bottomline is that if you are thinking of something that is durable and portable, this is the portable gas grill to consider.

A Few Things That Might Put You Off The Solaire Anywhere

Price

You cannot deny the fact that the Solaire Anywhere is a rather expensive portable gas grill. At almost $400 dollars, it certainly isn’t the amount you would expect from a grill of this size. At the end of the day, most of the price you pay for it goes into the materials and internal components.

Size

This 20 pound grill is light. But for its size and dimensions, you cannot grill too many things at one time. I remember trying to stuff about 4 good sized steaks onto it and it just won’t fit. I had to grill for 4 people including myself and I had to do 2 rounds to get our campfire dinner ready. The good thing is that this thing heats up really quick and cooks really fast.

Features That I Like

There are a few things I really like about the O-Grill 3000:

Lightweight

When I first bought it I was pretty surprised how light it was although I must add that the Fuego Element is lighter but still the fact that I can carry it with me around like a briefcase makes it really easy and convenient to bring around. I’ve weigh the O-Grill 3000 and it is about 24 pounds. The other thing that contributes to its weight is the stamped steel body. The problem with the stamped steel construction is that it is a bit more fragile. So don’t throw it around!

Good Cooking Area Surface

I was pretty surprised that it had quite a large cooking area of 225 square inches. I know that the Solaire Anywhere and Fuego Element have smaller cooking areas which is a bit of a problem if you are cooking for 4 people. I was quite surprised when it could handle half a dozen chicken thighs with enough room to spare for 2 pieces of steak! In fact you can fit more depending on the size of your meat or cooking pieces. So the larger than expected cooking area is definitely one plus point for me.

But I do warn you not to cook too large pieces of meat or chicken as this thing cannot handle too much weight.

Easy To Setup, Easy To Store

This two criteria is what I want in an ultraportable gas grill. The O-Grill 300 definitely fits that criteria. All you got to do is open up two sides of the clamped shell sides, unlock the handle, bring the lid up, attach your gas tank to it and push the ignition button and you are ready! If you want to store turn it off, let it cool down, bring the lid down and close the 2 clamp shell sides and you are done! Even my 4 year old nephew could do this by himself.

The size of this grill and the black handles make it easy to bring around and store anywhere in your house. Your friends will be amazed how easy it is to use the O-Grill 3000

Grills Great!

This last and final criteria is A MUST! I have been bringing the O-Grill 3000 to beaches, campfires and hikes and after a year it still grills wonderfully. Heat is excellent and is even enough. I can get some really nice sears as well. You won’t be disappointed!

Easy To Clean

You should know that I hate cleaning a grill after using. It is one of those greatest pains that you got to do especially if you don’t wanna waste money spending on a new grill if your old one gives up because of poor maintenance and no cleaning. Grease doesn’t attach so easily here and cleanup is really easy as you won’t find too many difficult to reach corners. There is also a drip tray for fat.

My Verdict

I would say that this is my favourite portable gas grill. The large cooking area makes the O-Grill 3000 a clear winner for me. The Fuego Element comes in a close second. At the price you pay, it is definitely a worthwhile investment.

But to tell you the truth, this Fuego Element Portable grill is the better of the two. It has won numerous awards and its compact design makes it a favourite amongst beachside grillers, hikers, campers and even families. It weighs only 17 pounds. So it definitely, won’t break your back.

This grill comes complete with:

Lightweight

Need I say more? Fuego has incorporated lightweight materials into the design but it certainly does not sacrifice on crucial parts like the grilling grates. The grilling grates are made of cast iron while the burners are stainless steel.

Affordable

This “A” word is something that has been rather elusive to many customers especially when buying gas grills. Not only it is cheap but it grills really well. Seriously, the 25% savings will get you the best deals in the market.

Great Grill

In terms of heat output, it only generates 8,000 BTUs but for the size and its compactness, it is more than enough. Expect delicious tasting steaks and burgers in a very short grilling time. Just make sure you don’t get too addicted to grilling

Easy Setup

I can tell you that this is a very important feature. Having a powerful portable grill that is difficult to setup is almost equivalent to junk. No one wants to spend 15 minutes, not even 10 minutes to setup a grill while tailgating or camping or hiking. The lock-in folding legs, shoulder strap for easy carry and the silicon strap are great features to have while carrying it around and setting it up.

Things You Might Need to Know

Small Cooking Area

For a grill this size, don’t expect to grill a whole lot in there. You might need to grill a few rounds if you are thinking of preparing a big meal. So don’t place too many pieces of chicken wings or steak in one go!

Durability

I wouldn’t say that this grill doesnt last long but it certainly take a beating. Don’t apply too much pressure or weight on it while carrying it around and handle it with care.

Grease Management System

I think this is the only design problem I can find. The grease catcher doesn’t actually contain the grease properly. I had a nasty experience of having my pants covered partially in chicken grease thanks to the grease catcher not performing as well as I would expect.

My Final Verdict

I know I might have sounded harsh on the previous paragraph but in short, the Fuego Element Portable is a great grill. It grills well, is very portable and convenient for tailgating, hiking, camping etc and is affordable.

For such a large grill with such flimsy materials, it is one such gas grill you should try to avoid even if you are on a budget. My one advice that I give to most people is to spend a little more for quality (but not TOO high quality) rather than dealing with a product that rusts easily or breaks down on you several times leaving you with a hefty repair bill.

Features To Expect From This Char Broil Four Burner

Basically, this entire model comes with:

• a max output of 48,000 BTU from all its four burners and a 13,000 BTU side burner which isn’t so bad.
• Its porcelain coated cast iron cooking grates is good for grilling. Home Depot sells this as well but even with a good warranty, this model would not entice me to buy it because of its durability.
• You will also get a decent sized 480 square inches of primary cooking area and a 205 square inch area for a warming rack.
• All the burners are made of stainless steel and probably the only good quality component in this grill are the stainless steel burners and
• the porcelain coated cooking grate and warming rack.
• The electronic ignition is nothing special considering the fact that most grills come with them.

Other things you can expect from this Char Broil is the grease tray which actually works quite well and saves you a lot of headache trying to clean it.

Probably the only good thing that you like with this grill is that it cooks well, the burners are well placed and are hot enough to grill even if you have the whole cooking grate filled with food.

My Final Verdict

Yes, this grill is no doubt cheap but it comes at a price. I have a few friends who were users of this grill and all of them started complaining later on that rust starts to affect almost every part of this grill. One tried to salvage it by paying close to the amount of the grill he purchased himself and one day he decided that it just wasn’t worth it anymore.

Frankly, this grill isn’t worth your money and you should never jump head-on to get a gas grill before finding out why it is so cheap. No doubt for the Char Broil 4 Burner, it is due to the cheap materials and thin pieces of metal holding it together.

I have a few suggestions for you if you want something better…

For a price of $300 (almost equivalent to this gas grill), you might as well consider other gas grills like

• Cusinart CGG-200 Tabletop Propane Gas Grill
• Weber Q-300 portable Gas Grill

If you want something of a good size, the Weber Q-300 is a good pick.
